About The Tasting Kitchen

The Tasting Kitchen is an eclectic mix of food, atmosphere and clientele, capturing the heart & soul of New American dining. The dimly lit dining room is the ultimate in intimate upscale dining while remaining a place you would be comfortable finishing a bottle of wine with friends until closing time. The menu changes daily and exemplifies our scratch kitchen philosophy, with pastas made by hand daily, meats cured in-house, produce from the local farmers' market, and everything made and sold the same day. We offer handcrafted neo-classical food, epic design and atmosphere, and service that is both a guide and companion throughout the experience. Come, ask questions, and enjoy

We enjoyed the cool vibe of this restaurant - you could definitely feel the buzz around this place. The food was very good but not mind-blowing or particularly 'wow', but it was tasty. We would recommend it to a friend but would we go back? Likely no. There are a lot of good restaurants in LA so I wouldn't waste the chance to discover another restaurant for this one again.

Waaaaaaay too loud! It was just 2 of us and with the loud music and all of the customers talking we could not hear each other speak. Great 3-course tasting menu but won't go back because the noisy is overwhelming. We were yelling at each other to be heard! Also, we wanted to get a drink before dinner but the 2 bartenders were too busy making some over-the-top drink that they had to shake up for a few minutes we finally gave up and went to the front desk to wait for our table-------------we probably would have spent at least $30 on 2 drinks but couldn't get the bartending to stop shaking up whatever drink he was making. Others at the bar also complained and gave up on drinks.

I didnt catch her name, but our Server was amazing. She helped us patiently choose some great dishes. a bit pricey, but overall experience at this restaurant was enjoyable, and our date was great! We didnt have any wine, but I did have some beers, food was ok some were incredibly good, and some were just edible. :) Overall I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to go on a date night. Ambience was very nice. Noisy, but a good noisy. Menu changes everyday.. one of those mysteries to choose from, but thats what makes it exciting and fun. Choose a few dishes and have fun, and enjoy the ambience at this hot little spot on Abbot Kinney.

Food was great. Our server, Amy was outstanding in guiding us through the 'tasting menu' and asking about our preferences, likes or any allergies. She was attentive and extremly thorough and knew everything about the menu. She offered great service without being intrusive.\nMy only complaint was the noise level. I noticed most diners had to shout over the music and echo of loud chatter.

I have only rave reviews for this restaurant. The food, service and ambience were all wonderful. My son and I had both said it was the best pasta we had ever eaten. My only one itty-bitty negative comment would be that the wine list was pretty expensive.

We got the 5 course regular menu - middle of the road food at expensive prices. Service was slow/inattentive...we went almost a whole course with empty wine glasses. Charged us $16 for two glasses of water. We could have made a much better and tastier dinner at home. A good place for just drinks, maybe. I will not return and would not recommend.

The food was great here but we made a reservations at 7pm and we didn't get seated until 7:20. Additionally, the food was extremely expensive and for extremely small portions. A meal of scallops and desserts (without drinks) cost over $50 with tip per person. It's a place that's great for if you want to celebrate something special but expect to wait even with reservations (despite having tables that are visibly open).

From the moment you walk in, you immediately already assume that you've walked into a great restaurant. The ambiance, the atmosphere, the presentation of everything was top-notch. Although, it is what anyone would expect from a restaurant sitting on Abbot Kinney. It was my date's birthday and I was told they would add a little candle to the dessert item that came at the end of the meal. Unfortunately, they forgot about it. No big deal, but it was a small touch that I had hoped they would take care of, especially for someone's birthday. My date and I both ordered a glass of wine... boy were they stingy with the pours. For almost $20 a glass, you would hope the waitress would be a wee bit generous, but I guess not.

Overrated!! Some friend recommended the restaurant for Saturday lunch. They had only been there for dinner. I assume the menu is different at dinner....it turns out they only offer 'brunch' on Saturday/Sunday. Apparently they put 'favorites' from the breakfast and lunch menus on the brunch menu. Everything we ordered (steak and eggs, vegan dish, oxtail stew, and the burger/fries) was VERY greasy. My eggs were floating in butter/oil. The service was very slow; they apologized and said the kitchen was backed up....but, the restaurant was only 1/2 full! It was a disappointing experience. I wouldn't return.

Ambience is lovely. The lighting and trees inside are a great unique touch. I went with family and liked the family style tasting menu option so we could sample many of the dishes. The appetizers were delicious and varied, but I found the main courses uninspiring (the porchetta was bland, a little tough and fatty -- I know, it's supposed to have fat, but this wasn't the good, toothsome, yummy kind -- just a brick layer of white fat. And the three sauces didn't do much to help. The roasted branzino was good, but not special.) GREAT SERVICE - our waitress was personable and informative, and the servers were prompt and professional. However, the SOUND LEVEL IS AWFUL. On top of the loud crowd noise (which would be fine on its own), there was super loud funk music piped over it. People had to yell across the table to be heard, which just increases the din. It's too bad -- the space and food has so much going for it. Would love to try it again, but the main courses and noise level were a turn off.

It's rare that I see a restaurant menu, especially in an Italian restaurant with house made pasta, and be unable to fine anything that sounds wonderful. My three table mates had the same problem. And when I got the pasta that I had asked the waitress to explain, it was totally not what I was told it was plus it was an amazingly small portion. Best thing we ate was the bread we had to pay for. There are so many incredible Italian places in LA with wonderful house made pasta (Factory Kitchen is one I love) that I will not be going back.

I have been here four times now and each dish is a culinary gem. The menu changes regularly which keeps repeat offenders (like myself) excited and surprised by the new flavors and ingratiates being incorporated by the chefs. Great to order family style and they pace it beautifully. We sat upstairs this time which was a nice changes and the service was impeccable. Will definitely be back as soon as I have an excuse! \n\nWe ordered;\n-Gnocco Fritto (a must if you're with a big group, can be too much shared between 2 people)\n-Pork Ribs w/peppers and cilantro (NEW and amazing)\n-Octopus w/adouille sausage (simply delicious)\n-Prawns and Clams (yummy, pretty straight forward)\n-Raddiccio salad w/balsamic (the hazelnuts made this just incredible - great starter to get some raw veggies in your belly before the big stuff)\n-Branzino (YUM - if you like fish, this is a must)\n-Creste di gallo - spicy delicious sausage, has remained on the menu for 2 visits in a row so I'm thinking I'm not the only person completely in love with this dish\n-Bigoli w/duck ragu - WOW, this savory pasta is heaven in a dish. Must get if you like wheat pasta coupled with rich but not overpowering sauce. \n-Bread Pudding - comes with a shot of espresso poured over - my pants at this point were hurting they were so tight\n-Olive Oil Cake - nice different dessert, definitely recommend for those who don't like things that are too sweet but still like a little sugar post-entree.

I took my girlfriend out for a nice romantic dinner. The Tasting Kitchen was an obvious choice. We were fortunate enough to get Shane for our server. It was like he knew us for years and guided us through the menu choices like a pro! \nThe drinks are simply amazing. I am a BIG sucker for anything with fresh ginger. Shane suggested the Lethal Weapon for me and the Man with no face (both named after Mel Gibson movies). They are both similarly made but with different liquor. The lethal Weapon has whisky and the Man with no face has vodka. \nFrom the bread to the apps to the main course and on to the deserts, everything we had blew our minds!! I cannot urge you enough to give The Tasting Kitchen a try.

I've been to the Tasting Kitchen before and have always enjoyed it there. We are from out of the area and always try to book ahead. However on this past dinner outing we were not pleased with the waiter and thought the restaurant was too dark and noisy. The waiter was quite stuffy and insisted we get the order in 'quickly' as the 'kitchen was starting to get busy.' Though the food was excellent as usually, I was still fairly displeased with the night's outcome.

Do yourself a favor and don't let the waiter talk you into the tasting menu. For a restaurant called the Tasting kitchen I couldn't have been any more disappointed with the imagination, quality, and variety of what we were served. Our server bragged about how the five course menu would give us great variety and be a fabulous dinner. In our first course we had a salad and in our fourth course we had a salad. Also in our first course was mussels. In our entree we also had mussels. The other two entrees were a pork and rib-eye. Rib eyes I know have lots of fat for flavor but both of these meat dishes were virtually inedible due to the amount of fat and sinew. \nThe dessert was really not large enough to be shared by the three in our party. \nBottom line is they served us what was over abundant and cheap (salad and mussels) with little care or imagination. The most imaginative part was how to charge people for a $95 dining experience and deliver something that wouldn't even be served at the Cheesecake Factory. \n\nIn addition the place was SO dark you couldn't see what you were eating and so loud that had my server even asked me how the food was he wouldn't have heard my response. \n\nAll in all a very disappointing experience .

We had a reservation for 12 noon, had requested a table in the downstairs dining room, and arrived on time. The only available seats for quite a while was at the raucous family table in the bar, a very noisy experience and nothing like the dining room. The only other people in the bar were walk-ins. We specifically made a reservation so that we would not be stuck in the bar. We won't return anytime soon.

I was so disappointed. The food was just meh! I've head everything better and nothing is so unusual as to be daring. Presentation was undramatic, portions erred as they were far too salty to be on such a small serving. \n\nService. If you are willing to wait an hour for a drink. And no knowledge of the menu. \n\nI wish I had dined somewhere else. Don't know what the hype is.

We loved the ambiance, but both are dishes were way too salty. The fish which is priced high was under cooked and too salty. My pasta had nothing special, except all the salt. We felt the cost of the food did not reflect the quality. We left wishing we had gone to gjelina. In the end we both barely ate, and ended up having dessert at gjelina! If the food could be has good as the ambiance we would come back.

Nice atmosphere especially if you sit on the patio. Food can be very good. Ordered a pastry and I think it was the smallest pastry I've ever seen for $6. Many of the dishes were 'just fine', nothing was great and several dishes were just plain bad. The polenta with sausage was difficult to eat given how salty it was, we had two pastas - one of them was perfectly cooked but the sauce was bland, the other pasta was so overcooked it was nearly mush. The place was busy, people obviously like it for some reason, and consequently the service was a bit slow, but still friendly. This is our second time going, we didn't like it much the first time but gave it another shot. No third tries for us.

Bunch is a fabulous way to ease into the day. My husband had biscuits and gravy and I had salmon sandwich. Both were delicious with a twist on the standard recipe. We're repeat diners and we'll be back for more.

I've dined here often and continue to go back because the food is really really good and the wine list and cocktails are equally so. Things were a little off this night - the pancetta wrapped scallops came without pancetta (two orders at the table) and we didn't speak up soon enough to find out why. Absent the pancetta, the scallops were perfectly cooked and a bit bland. Octopus was great, steak was as well, and the stuffed quail was too. There's a good reason why the place is packed even on a Tuesday night...

Our server couldn't tell us what some components of some of the dishes were, fine but then maybe ask the kitchen which he never did. Then we couldn't find him and a sweet woman saw us looking around so she took our wine order, then a few minutes later he came to our table and asked if we ordered from her. We said yes that we had asked for another round. He then tells us only to order from him in the future, that's just weird. So with so many good restaurants on the west side we probably won't bother again here

We were very excited about going to the Tasting Kitchen and made our reservation through Open Table, as we do for almost all of our dining out occasions. We had a 6;15 reservation on Thursday, June 11. The restaurant called us to confirm two days before. When we arrived at the restaurant at 6:15, the hostess couldn't find our reservation. i told her the restaurant had called the day before to confirm. She made a big fuss, with a number of people standing behind us in line, and said she wouldn't be able to seat us. Finally, she said the reservation had been for 5:30 and they couldn't hold it for us. I said that was impossible, that I'd made if for 6:15, that they'd called to confirm, and we had a printout of the reservation at the house we were renting and if necessary I would go back to get it. Then she chastised me for making the reservation through OPEN TABLE...'You didn't make the reservation through us, and you made it yourself online for 5:30.' I repeated that I'd made it for 6:15, and they'd confirmed it. Then I was able to retrieve the 6:15 reservation confirmation on my cell phone and showed it to her. Then, and only then, did she grudgingly allow us to be seated. As we turned to go to the table I said, 'so no acknowledgement, no apology?' She said, 'well, I couldn't find it in our system.' The waiter wasn't much better. Also had an attitude. So bottom line...very good food, nice ambiance, rude hostess, indifferent waiter. There are plenty of other places to go in Venice where they are happy to take care of you.

I used to come here a few years ago for Brunch and dinner. It is in my neighborhood, so that was also a plus. After deciding not to drive to West Hollywood for dinner, we came here for my birthday. We were sat right away, the waiter I think was one of the managers and he was very nice. Since the neighborhood is so hot right now, I think the prices reflect that. You used to be able to get the 3 course chefs option for $60.00 and the 5 course for $75, which I think was spot on. Now it is $75 for the 3 course, and $95 for the 5 course. Way too much. That is before drinks. They have a margarita for $20! That's just absurd. So we ordered al la carte. None of the food we had wowed me or my husband and the portions got smaller. Mind you, we \nconsider ourselves foodies, we don't eat in cheap corporate dining chains with mediocre food. That said, they certainly don't need our business. They have enough people who believe the hype. I just feel like Tasting Kitchen as an awesome neighborhood standard is gone as I know it. There are plenty of other places to try and I will be doing so. The service was attentive and the hostess was pleasant, but that was the only great thing that I remember from that night.

The derby punch cocktail was delicious but very light on the gin. The cheese plate we had was good. It was paired with honey, fig jam, Marcona almonds and raisins. The bread is heavenly and warm. Salumi plate was also yummy and plentiful - we added the burrata-which was silky and delicious Last we had the angliotti. Good to share because we were stuffed but it was a very small portion. I am in my mid 50's(not 80!) so not too interested in standing and juggling a drink in one hand, not enjoyable. We were seated upstairs which was lovely and a great place to hear each other talk. Food was fantastic! I would recommend this place and will go back for a special occassion, with hopefully an earlier seating.

Though service was fine and we were offered complimentary olives, we waited over an hour for our food. When asking about a pasta dish with shrimp, the server described the dish as having large beautiful red shrimp in it. For $31, I expected several large shrimp in it. When the tiny bowl of pasta arrived, though the pasta was cooked perfectly, there were 2 small bites of shrimp in the entire dish mixed under the pasta. Not even one whole shrimp and for the 3 people in our party, one of us didn't even get to try it. Terribly unimpressed.

We live right up the street from the restaurant - it is by far one of the most delicious brunches in the area and we come at least once a month. Service is alway generally a bit slow, but the staff is friendly and attentive, space is beautiful and food is amazing so it never seems to be bothersome. Today's service experience, however, left me really disappointed and slightly insulted. From the get-go our server seemed a little on edge. When she ordered the wrong pastry for us and we let her know that we didn't want to eat the misfire - she seemed perplexed and gave us a bit of attitude - 'We are just going to throw it away, you don't want it?' We had ordered so much food - we said! She took it away and brought the correct one in a huff. When we ordered an additional beer & rose to enjoy with our meal, the drinks took so long that they arrived after we were done with our entrees. After we questioned the long wait, she said the computers had gone down, but then had to ask us again what we ordered - she had obviously forgotten as the entire time I watched beverages coming out from the bar into the dining room. It is ok to admit mistakes - just own it! When the bill came, I was shocked that she had't comped the second round of drinks - it took 20 minutes to pour a beer & a wine. When I brought this up, she grabbed the check and walked off. When she returned, she loudly placed it on the table and said - 'I took off the beer' and walked away. Wow! The icing on the cake was when my boyfriend heard her talking about ME at the host stand on his way out. Unprofessional and really ruined our entire experience. We felt like we were somehow at fault and should feel bad for her service shortcomings and inaccuracies. It will likely be a minute before we return for our next brunch or date night here.

For the main course my girlfriend got smoked salmon with goat cheese which is incredibly good and light. All the extras were wonderful. I got the lamb which was more like a french dip. I wasn't expecting sandwich, but it was really good. I'd probably get something else in the future though. The cocktails were also really good. They have three bloody marys. We got the house which is a very very well executed basic bloody mary. My girlfriend got the petite mary which is more of a celery, vodka and sumac cocktail. It was also excellent. I have to say that this was a very disappointing evening. After reading great reviews, I made a reservation, but also called to be sure this would be a good experience for vegetarians. I was assured over the phone that there would be enough on the menue, and in fact, the Chef could prepare a vegetarian tasting. We were so excited and were ready to be surprised and amazed by Chef. Sadly, when we got there, the waiter told us that there were not so many menu choices and he did not think the Chef would be open to preparing a pure vegetarian tasting. I asked him to discuss the matter with the Chef. He came back to to table to smuggly tell us he was right and the Chef would not be willing to accomodate us. We decided to make the most of it and just order a selection of small plates. Sadly, the waiter also then told us our choices are limited because they refuse to make any alterations to the food preparation, and even our simplest requests were denied. The end result was a very mediocre meal of small portions. The one additional shocker was that we did order one full entree dish which was a pasta. Sadly, it was no larger than a vegetable side dish. All in all, we left feeling mislead and disappointed.

Our waiter was great but the food wasn't as amazing as I remembered. Things that went wrong: my cocktail took forever to come out- to the point where our waiter apologized. The dressing on the salad was too strong, too lemony. To the point where it made me cough a few times. We both had the halibut which tasted pretty good but it wasn't very hot when served and it was garnished with beans that were straight up cold. Dessert was also tasty but took so long to come out the waiter had to again apologize for the wait. \n\nI was a bit bummed because I had talked this place up to my friend who I had taken there for her birthday and it was just an ok experience.

Took the lady here for her 28th birthday. The old grey mare and that. I'd heard good things about The Tasting Kitchen, and their menu looked more interesting than the typical LA fare (roasted brussel sprout app, crudo of some sort, one jidori chicken, one steak, and one veg pasta dish-blah). I was delighted to find this was most definitely not the case. We loaded up on appetizers, including a varied and impressive cheese board, mussels in a fennel white wine sauce (highlight), frog legs (tiny and bland, skip), duck confit (unusual preparation-worth trying), and one other I can't recall. Our shared entree was the salt-roasted branzino. Despite my stated enthusiasm for whole fish, both the skin and head were removed. I suppose this is standard preparation for the squeamish diners of Abbot-Kinney, but I was superbly disappointed.\n\nAn extensive Italian wine list makes up for the missteps in some of the dishes, and do be sure to surprise your date with a dessert. The bar area seems to be the way to go; if I were to visit The Tasting Kitchen again, it would be for a glass of Sangiovese and those delightful mussels after a hard day at the office.

dishes read well but came as disappointments. frog legs sans their appendages drowning past sauce and potato slices were crying out to be saved ..confit of duck shreds( also minus their legs )hiding amongst greens and too much dressing just plain sad.pasta was touted as the jewel in the crown but my spaghetti with tomato sauce was strong on paste and low on real fruit.\nroast loin of pork was a thick cut but for that price dry and bland. what a waste of meat.\nheavy saucing and long waits in between courses does not justify the raves this restaurant garners.wines by the glass are way over priced.\nit was packed by the time we left...but maybe its more of a scene than a serious commitment to good food.

My only negative comment, tables for 2 are really close to one another so if you are looking for some privacy for two, this is not the place. However, the food, wine, cocktails are excellent. And by far one of the best bread puddings I've ever had. Definitely will be returning. On the pricey side but there are moderately priced food items available that will certainly be filling. Enjoy!

The food is delicious. The music is so loud you cannot hear your thoughts or have a conversation with your friends. It's also such poor quality music. The place looks trendy and cool and the music is like a low rent ghetto nightclub. It completely doesn't match the ambience, the music actually takes away from it a lot. They offer late reservations but if you take one beware -they will start running out of half the items on the menu by 10:30. No waitress/waiter came to greet us or bring us drinks for a solid 15 minutes after sitting down.

We were really looking forward to this restaurant. The drinks were okay but surprised to get a $31 bill for two cocktails that were not overly exciting. \n\nWe had a 9:30 reservation and had to order 4 times. The waitress came back three times to tell us what we had ordered was out after she had recommended those items to replace what we thought we were going to be able to have. Our reservation was on a Thursday, I've never been to a foodie-magnet restaurant that has run out of so many items... That's just poor restaurant management. Exclusivity should not bleed into the quality of service.

Overall the experience was tainted by a longer than normal wait time for the arrival of our food. two tables that were seated after us received their food before and and completed their meal before ours arrived. The seats were uncomfortable and the hostess/waitress that poured the wine didn't let us see the label before she poured the selection, just poured and ran.\n\nLuckily it was well prepared and tasty.

Rudest waitress I've ever experienced. After our second course on the tasting menu didn't show up after 45 minutes, my husband asked about the wait. Instead of apologizing, the waitress accused my husband of complaining the last time he was here (this is his first time). I am literally at a loss of words. I later asked the waitress about what happened and was SASSED out of my chair. Never coming back...

Friendly to us annoying GF and vegetarian diners--chef made a special plate just for me and it was as thoughtful as the rest of the menu. I love dining in restaurants where the staff clearly enjoys working together, laughs when they think no one is looking, and has a harmonious and organic system that feels effortless. I paid $285 for the worst meal I've had in 5 years and the kicker was nobody cared. The server felt like she had checked on us a lot according to the manager who was incapable of introducing herself and couldn't even bother to fake an apology properly. I run a fantastic restaurant on the belt line in the city of Atlanta and I LOVE to go out. The fact that I took someone here was a total embarrassment and the fact that the staff in its entirety let me pay that bill shows that they lack a single pro in the whole house. I was also told that the owner does not give out his information..... I guess he / she doesn't care either.

Yet another restaurant that adopts the high-handed approach of demanding that diners accept salad with dressing added and not served separately. As I have argued elsewhere this is a question of degree and personal taste and not some power play. Now here, when I was told that the chef would not accept serving salad with its dressing on the side and I asked if this was really necessary and not a little childish (apparently necessary but still childish to my mind) I did ask for a light touch. What I received, as often happens, I found inedible, what a great way to ruin a decent salad by slathering it with over sweet, over extracted dressing, maybe because I had argued with the server I was being given the finger by having someone deliberately ignore my request to take things gently or maybe that is just how they serve salads and if the latter than that just underscores my point. Why not serve all salads as a matter of course with separate dressing but have your wait-staff ask if the diner prefers that the restaurant serves it combined should the diner prefer the restaurant does the work? No shame to either side and everyone gets what they want. And in the case of The Tasting Kitchen, they would have found a repeat client in myself, sadly given their approach this will not be the case.

Based on the price tag and the hype, this dining experience was rather disappointing. I would only recommended 2/6 dishes we ordered. Of the appetizers, the oxtail was definitely the star. It was very tender, rich in flavor, and well balanced. The burrata salad was basically just a plate of cheese with a few vegetables strewn about. The octopus was barely palatable — definitely avoid this dish even if you love octopus.\n\nAs for the entrees, we ordered two pastas. The dish with the squid and chile was highly disappointing, as it was strongly recommended by the wait staff. The chili flavors dominated the dish, overpowering the seafood and making it basically pasta sitting is chili oil. \n\nThe tagliatelli was very good, on the other hand, and is definitely recommended.\n\nLastly, for dessert, we had the house sorbets, which were both rather frosty. \n\nOverall, I would say pass on this place and save yourself a $200 disappointment.

I love this place for dinner - always had a great time. So decided to try it out for brunch. We waited over an hour to be served our food. Every table around us who came in later was served before us. on top of that it took 15 mins to be served a hot tea... It was a bit of a mess.

I'd heard great things about this place, but every time I looked at the menu, I felt uninspired. I was wrong. While the menu doesn't scream amazing at first glance, everything is in fact incredible. We ordered 4 dishes for brunch, each better than the last. Great place to shake up all your expectations!\n\nMy personal favorites were the Eggs in a Basket and the Roasted Grapefruit - exceptional.

You will peruse the rest of the menu, and everything will look awesome. However, you just need to get the chicken and waffles. They're amazing.

Six years in, the Tasting Kitchen continues to set the bar very high for food, service, ambience, and wine. Eating there is always a real treat. Tastes are amazing, inventive, and delicious; service is informal and professional and perfect. No, wait staff do NOT tell you their names or that they'll be serving you tonight - they just do their job very well, welcoming diners, attending to timing, and making the experience easy and relaxed. And everyone works as a flawless team. Even if I didn't live a 10 minute walk away, I'd still be there as often as I could.

Every time I have been here the hostess has been rude. They simply act like they are too cool to just be nice. This past visit was no exception. It ruins the experience. The food is good and its a cute place I wish they would learn that you should be nice to others and make you feel welcome when you come in.

We ordered three appetizers, one pasta dish and one fish (the sea bass).\n\nThe appetizers were pretty average. I liked the pasta dish but it wasn't anything special. The fish was underwhelming. It's pretty pricey too -- we each had one drink and bill came to $170. \n\nHaving said that, the spot is really great. I'm guessing we just didn't order all that well.

I love Tasting Kitchen for brunch, but I heard dinner was outstanding. They are always booked up for dinner, so you have to make reservations for weekends at least two weeks in advance. Our table was ready right away for our 7pm reservation. We live down the street, so we walk there, which is a dream! We did the 3 course taster chef choice menu and we were happy with what came out. I would say $60 per person for what we had a little on the high side, and I feel like we were hungry enough to to the 5 course dinner at $80 per person, but we didn't want to spend that much. They should give you a wine pairing option for these, but they don't. My other issue is the menu design makes it overwhelming to discern your choices, especially with the small plates and pasta option. I like a clear menu where I don't have to ask a million questions to the staff in order to make a choice. The brunch menu is like this as well, but way smaller, so I can wrap my head around it better. But, for brunch and dinner i think $13 cocktails are too expensive for what you get. I think $9.00-10 at the most is what they should be charging. Most places charge too much for cocktails these days, not just this place. But $50 for 4 cocktails, ridiculous! Brunch there is still better than most places I have ever gone. Dinner was good, but not amazing compared to other places of similar caliber, but Tasting Kitchen is consistent anytime we go. We will go back for the 5 course menu, but we will have drink before we leave the house since we will be walking!

My fiancé and I went to this restaurant for our Valentine's Day celebration. We were very excited for the food and the ambiance. However our experience was marred by good but not great food and awful service. The waiter was insulting and the table next to us was loud and obnoxious. Very disappointed.

The food was fine but nothing you can't find at dozens of places in town who actually understand what good service is. The waiters were barely there, slow as molasses and didn't provide serving utensils or plates even though it was obvious we were sharing, etc. The noise was unbearable -- couldn't carry on a conversation with out shouting which was tedious and unpleasant. I won't be back.

What's all the hoopla about with this place? The food was really nothing special and frankly very disappointing : the antipasti was really charcuterie accompanied by a small square of peccorino cheese (they never brought any bread). The bottle of Sancerre was served warm and took all night to chill. The striped bass was boring and the hanger was devoid of any porcini.\nNot even the chocolate pana cotta, which was more cinnamon than chocolate, could make good. Sorry TK, but after dropping 3 bills on a dinner for two we expected more from you. There won't be a next time...

We had a great dinner here with friends on Sunday night. We had an early reservation (6:15) and though the restaurant was busy we were never made to feel rushed. The waiter was very helpful choosing a great wine. 3 of us had pasta, all were delicious, especially the Cresti di gallo. One of us had the roasted duck and liver, which though really good was a small portion for the $37 price tag. Next time I hope to try the charcuteries and cheeses.

This place was great. The food was amazing and there was a great variety to choose from. The seating was spread out despite how crowded it was, and our waitress was extremely attentive.\n\nIf you're in Venice Beach, definitely check this place out!

We are big foodies and go out to dinner for special occasions. As such, we like to seek out top restaurants. The Tasting Kitchen seemed to fit the bill. \n\nWe made an 8:30 reservation. We arrived at 8:10 and were told the table would be ready closer to 8:30. We were finally set at 9. There was no spot to sit. Advised no drinks on s outdoor area. Hostess offered comp bread as gesture for waiting so long.\n\nWaiter was knowlegeable. Corkage available but extortionate at $30 a bottle! Pastas were the best, though lasagnette bolognese was very salty. Overpriced menu. \n\nRestaurant very dark and very noisy.

We liked the interesting, somewhat unique menu. Lots of great choices. We sat upstairs. There was only one waiter to handle all tables upstairs. We brought two bottles of wine. Unfortunately, we were unable to get our waiter's attention to uncork our second bottle of wine. Even after finally being able to get his attention AFTER our main courses had arrived, he returned to open the wine only after we were almost completely finished with our meal. On the up-side, due to the issue, he comped the corkage fee for the first bottle.

The food was great, service was good but unfortunately the host sat us 50 minutes later than our reservation time which I think it is a big factor for me weather or not recommend this Resturant on the weekend. The host tried to accommodate four of us with a free drink we made a pass then she offered us for comp appetizers & they did one of our appetizer which was a nice gesture but it would have been nicer if they would have done the 3 that we ordered cause they offered us 4 drinks to begin with. Anyway the overall experience is ok.

i've only gone for brunch a few times and never a bad experience. their must's are egg in a basket, bacon waffle, croque madame. of course, coffee to die for. i lived in norcal for a stint and got spoiled with blue bottle. they recently opened a shop down the street from the tasting kitchen and now they serve blue bottle at brunch. my only suggestion is the kitchen tends to pour and drench their french toast (egg in a basket) and waffles with the syrup. if you're not into your toast and waffles soaking in syrup, ask for it on the side i always forget to do taht (my bad) and end up feeling a bit turned off by all the excessive sweetness half way through every meal. their bacon is amazing by the way.

The Tasting Kitchen definitely has a vibrant atmosphere, and feels like a hot spot on Abbot Kinney, but it's not that wonderful. We had some tasty appetizers, particularly the chicken wings--they're delicious.. The beet salad was good. We had two entrees--the beef bourguignon was very good. But we had a branzino that was full of bones even after it was boned, and that came with no sides or vegetables, for $40. And I had a side salad that was supposed to be mixed greens, but was a big hunk of gritty red leaf lettuce that hadn't been washed properly, and was dressed in vinegar, no oil. It was inedible. We won't come running back.

it is getting predictable. Everytime we order a testing manu, we were told that chef makes daily pick, but we always get same dishes. Either we come too often or they need more creative testing manu.

Exhorbitant! Service was good. Food smallest portions and not particularly tasty. The fries were the best part of the meal. The chicken, which took an hour to prepare, was a joke. Tiny! We complained about the chicken and the staff were quick to compensate us with two side dishes. I reckon they've heard it all before. Definitely Not going back.

I have been to Tasting Kitchen at least five time before. I hadn't been for at least the past year as so many fine new restaurants have opened in Los Angeles. It is obvious that Tasting Kitchen has not only failed to keep up with other restaurants, but has taken a nose dive. The menu was old and tired. The appetizers were completely uninspired and uninspiring. The pastas were good although I feel like they haven't changed the selections since I was there last. As far as entrees go, the branzino was good. The burger was not. The meat was sinewy. The bottom bun was completely soggy. Also, if they try to seat you upstairs, turn around and leave. this was our first time sitting upstairs. The service was terrible. It took ages to get a waitress, a drink order, a drink, wine, and our food. Very disappointing.

I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday and since we arrived early we checked in then headed back to the bar for cocktails which were terrific. I had a gin fizz and she had an Animal Fruit which I quickly switched to after tasting how good it was. Our bartender was friendly and made some great suggestions as far as the menu. We were seated earlier than our reservation and our server was very nice and outgoing. Highlights for us were the three cheese plate, the prosciutto with the puff pastry, the homeade bread, a half moon ravioli pasta with sausage dish, and the hangar steak with a side of fries. The only gripe was the space between dishes was entirely too long. I think we got lost in the shuffle since it was a busy Saturday night and we weren't being squeaky wheels. I think we were waiting 20 minutes for the first entree, then 25-30 minutes for the hangar steak and our waitress said the kitchen would have it out in 3 minutes max but that also took a lengthier amount of time. She could've cracked the whip with the kitchen more but did comp us a dessert (which we were reluctant to accept since that also took about 15 minutes). But then it was terrific. I think we'd definitely come back and just arrive earlier on a week night since it seems like staff pays attention to the bigger parties when it's busy and they had difficulty balancing the service.

It is now resting on its past laurels. Food was very mediocre. Even their signature fusilli was bland and uninteresting. Still crowded but it won't take long before others catch on that this is a restaurant going down hill, fast.

The Tasting Kitchen is my favorite spot in Venice and my favorite place to brunch in LA. I always tell myself I should try something new, but I come back for the biscuits and gravy every time - so good! They have a great drink menu - had an outstanding Bloody Mary on my last visit. The service never disappoints either. Moving out of state next month and going to miss this place so much!

Ballistically loud, so be it. Food not like it used to be. Had chicories with pork belly, pork belly was cold and fat had solidified, just not good at all. Steak was very tough and chewy, flavors were decent, but not what waiter stated, no salsa verde, no marrow, no potatoes, but a balsamic sauce. Pasta quoted with shrimp was pasta with squid, had to send it back. Brought spicy pasta with pork, pork smelled a bit like a wet dog (?). TK used to be so good...
