As a professional who works downtown and leaves plenty of time for dinner prior to attending a performance at The Music Center, I have frequented this establishment many times since it opened. The quality of the food remains fabulous. However, the detail to efficiency in waiting on us has continued to decline. I am sorry to say, that as popular as this restaurant has become, the detail to serving the customer has come to the point that we are questioning returning. It took 1/2hr to bring our salad, our drinks were served in clunky tumbler glasses (didn't seem refined and felt like we were in a pizza parlor) and it also took forever to receive our main meal. We had 1.5hr planned to eat and our pizza came a hour after ordering it. Should never have taken this long, especially when we arrived and ordered prior to the restaurant getting busy.

A very large, busy place in the evening before a show. The food and ambience makes it worthwhile but give yourself extra time - at least 2 hours. We had to skip dessert to make our show on time.

Been to this restaurant twice. First time it was outstanding. That was over a year ago. Took my daughter after the opera recently and it was very disappointing. The kitchen was totally overwhelmed. There was almost a 50 minute delay between our first and second course and our entree was (salmon) was over cooked. Our waiter did his best but there was not much he could do though he did comp us a dessert.

The service was terrible. We hardly saw our server, Jonathan. He was polite when we we did see him, but we were surprised by his lack of attention because the restaurant was dead. I ordered a pasta dish and there was so little pasta, it seemed like a half order. The pasta was supposed to have Lobster, but it may have not been. It was rubbery and chewy. It smelled and tasted so fishy. I ate about 5 pieces of the gluten free penne and it did have a nice texture, but the sauce was so terrible, I couldn't continue. I immediately looked at the time because I knew it would be a while before we saw Jonathan. It was over 6 minutes before we saw him. He asked how everything was and I told him about the issues with the food and told him that I don't mind paying for it, but I can't eat anymore. He did the right thing. He apologized and emphatically told he would let the manager know. The manager didn't offer me a card, but phonetically I believe it was Elodie. A apologize if I spelled it incorrectly. He was the biggest disappointment. He argued with me about the quality of the food. I told him the Lobster didn't seem the best quality and he told me I was wrong, so I said maybe it wasn't prepared correctly and he acted like it wasn't possible and I was the problem, then he accused me of eating half of it and trying to get it for free, then offered to give it to me for half off. He offered to give me a full priced meal in addition to charging me half for the first meal. Originally I agreed because I was hungry. Then I thought about it for a while and it set in how insulting the manager was and how terrible the cook was and I cancelled the order as soon as I could flag someone down. I told the manager it he was very rude and I will gladly pay full price for the first dish, it was never about the money. He ended up not charging for that dish. I tipped over 20%, not because did a great job, but because I felt bad that his manager was an unprofessional bully.

The restaurant is very close to the Music Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum and the Colburn. We arrived at 6:30 and it was crowded and getting more crowded by the minute. The service was cordial but very slow as everyone seems to arrive at once and needs to get out for 8 pm events. I had a pasta dish that was good, but slightly overcooked. Also, thought the portions were a little small. Its a fun place, near to the night life on Bunker Hill. Would return if I were in that neighborhood for a pre theater dinner, but might arrive earlier.

We were going to LA for a cocktail event and I picked this place because it was close and had good Yelp reviews. First we went next door to have drinks at Otium (which had I known they served food would have eaten there as their cocktails were amazing). So to start, service was bad, food was marginal (although oddly the best thing at the Italian restaurant was the french fries ). My husband and I ordered the 'scampi' risotto. The wife of the couple dining with us ordered the wild mushroom risotto. I wasn't sure which I wanted so I asked if I could do mushroom risotto with shrimp on the side. NO, our terrible waiter said. They don't do any substitutions. Mumbled something about the 'dinner rush' ( at least 5 open tables) and that it's the way it's prepared???? So I asked another person ( turned out to be the table runner) about adding shrimp and said of course they could. Terrible waiter comes back over and says NO, he's wrong, impossible to do. I didn't ask them to go catch the shrimp, just put some on the plate. When the risotto arrived I realized why they couldn't just add shrimp to the mushroom risotto, THEY WERE LITTLE CHUNKS OF CHOPPED UP SHRIMP. My husbands comment after the first bite was that it tasted like they'd used Cambells soup to make it. And it was so over salted ( all three dishes) they were almost inedible. Our other dinner companion ordered a pizza and fries. He was the smart one. Because of the salt content my friend, V, was out of water almost immediately. She asked our waiter 4 times for more water. She finally got fed up, went to the server station and grabbed the water pitcher to get her own water 30 minutes later ( should I mention that entree prices were in the $24-$30 range, this was not a pizza joint). I have a picture of her pouring the water. Manager finally comes over. Sort of apologizes, says I could have had the shrimp add on, and takes $16off a $120 bill. If you're near the Disney Concert Hall Eat at Otium, or ANYWHERE else.

New Years Eve...I certainly understand things get a little crazy during a big event but we were very disappointed. We were ignored many times by the waiter who was busy with the 'beautiful people' table. This very expensive mean was ordinary...kind of dull. We were seated near a DJ and between his loud speakers so conversation didn't happen. And obviously his family was sitting at a table nearby because his sweet child decided to run around our table throughout the meal yelling something in Italian as he waved. It's probably a wonderful place during the normal hours.

Vespaio is an excellent spot for dining before a performance at the Music Center . Our server asked us if we had a show to get to, then was very responsive with taking our order, serving the food, and bringing the check. My wife and I shared the mussels in broth appetizer and the pappardelle with wild boar ragu. The mussels were good--it's a fairly generic dish--and the pasta was top notch. Plenty of food for the two of us. I'd go there again.

My review is colored by the fact that we were there on New Year's Eve. I assume that more effort went in to setting up the party that was to come, even though we were dining pre-theater. As is annoyingly typical on New Year's Eve, the usual menu was set aside in favor of jacked-up prices for 'fancy' dishes. This was not surprising, but we would have preferred the standard fare.\n\nHowever, to their credit they did offer some standard menu items, so if you ignore the premium pricing then our meal should be like any other. And it was...okay. The table had a selection of pastas that really could have been better. Sauces were bland and there was too much. At least one pasta was a bit over cooked. The meal wasn't terrible-- it just wasn't all that good.\n\nOn a positive note our server was very attentive, and respectful of the fact that we needed to get to a show. We had none of the issues with slowness that some have complained about. The location is good and the setting attractive, so maybe I'll give the kitchen another try. But I can't say I'm excited to return.

Is this place in trouble? My daughter and friends went on a Friday night to find them out of pizza and a few other menu items. We went last Sunday night (not our first visit) and they kept running out of items as we ordered them. No salmon, cod, chicken and one other item I can't recall. It became unbelievable as the waitress kept returning with the bad news. Their menu is a bit odd anyway but how can you continually run out of food???? Trying to save $$$ by not ordering adequately is my guess. Pizza, really??

Dismal experience!!!!! Seating area is cramped and like a grade school cafeteria. Wait staff is poorly trained (if at all), was EXTREMELY slow and confusedly continued to bring the wrong orders to us and the guests around us. Portions are niggardly small for the price and hardly tasty. The sound system volume is permanently set at 'excruciatingly LOUD' and blares ?music? that is hardly conducive to enjoying dining or conversation (even after repeatedly asking Staff to reduce the volume). Although the location is very inviting because it is so convenient to the Music Center, Disney Hall, and The Broad and offers a much needed dining venue, I will never return. Dr. Dann

I made reservations so that I could attend a performance at Disney Concert hall. Though I had 90 minutes, we didn't receive bread, or drink refills and only our salad came before we had to leave even though I notified the waiter that we had a tight timeline. I asked for the check 4 times before I finally just got up to leave. They apologized sincerely and didn't charge us. So when the performance was over we raced back to the restaurant to try to get dinner. The wait staff recognized us and seated us. Again, we waited.... The food finally came, but was truly unremarkable. It looked lovely. Thank goodness I wasn't thirsty, because I didn't get refills of my water and no one took my drink order. Maybe the restaurant was closing and they didn't want to tell us because they recognized us? I attended a private reception there a while back. Great food options, but the food was a bit dry. I thought it was because it was cooked for a large group. Now that I have had a chance to dine with a friend, I see that the food is consistently inconsistent. Anyway, definitely not worth a do over.

Food (ribeye steak, spinach side, French fries, bread) was bland, not very notable. Maybe the Italian dishes (e.g., pizza, etc.) would have been better, as this is an Italian restaurant. This was our first trip to this restaurant and we were meeting a friend before a show. The food was good. The service was a bit scattered. Between being seated and drinks arriving it was 30 minutes. It may have been the bar was slammed (6PM, prior to a show), but was a noticeable delay. We had two sausage pasta specials and one from the menu. All were great. The heirloom tomato salad had just regular tomatoes and they charge for bread that was marginal. Would give them another chance to improve the service as the food (outside the bread) was good.

Overall, disappointing experience. The cocktails and server were good but food left a lot to be desired. We started with two appetizers crab cakes (special) which had a potato like texture and very little crab, and calamari which was fried and bland. Our entree choices were \n1) Filet mignon which was actually very good, tender, cooked to proper temperature and flavorful served with mashed potatoes and mushroom sauce. \n2) Half Gidori rotisserie chicken- terrible, over cooked and dry. This was served with rosemary potatoes which were okay. Also chose a side order of oven roasted Brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower which also had no salt, seasoning or sauce of any kind. Very boring. \n3) Potato Topini pasta with lobster, artichokes in a pink sauce- again, very bland. \nWe would not recommend this restaurant except for cocktails and ambiance.

We informed our server as soon as we sat down that we had symphony tickets and he said that it would be no problem getting our meal in a timely manner. While he took our drink orders quickly, it took a long time for him to take our meal order. The salad arrived quickly enough, but we waited forever for our entrees; it was more than an hour after we were seated when the entrees finally arrived, leaving us less than half an hour before the show started. I chose this restaurant as we were visiting our Vegan son and was within walking distance of our hotel. It had good reviews and stated they had a variety of vegan dishes, I even called the restaurant personally twice, no they did not offer anything vegan so my son was left to a pizza or plain pasta with a small amount of vegetables as his only choice.\n\nOur server was kind and attentive. That is the only positive thing I can speak of. The 'special' appetizer, eggplant parm, no flavor, to much sauce and barely luke warm. I was hoping the rest of the meal would be up to par, wrong.....The Dover Sole, according to our waiter was the best dish on the menu...So, so very disappointed it had no flavor whatsoever and again luke warm. Our son played it safe with a pizza (hard to screw up, but was honestly the best meal on the table) His friend ordered the lobster ravioli and again to much sauce and barely luke warm.\n\nAs we were entering the restaurant two couples were leaving. They highly encouraged us to not eat at this restaurant, bad service, bad food. I wish we had listened to them.\n\nI will never return or refer anyone to this restaurant. With such an expensive location you would think they would be sure the food and service were appropriate - you would be wrong. In particular the special that included truffles resulted in a frustrating discussion about what type of truffles. And indeed when the disk came it turned out to be the tasteless type, a variety I had not encountered before. It looked like truffle shavings on the overcooked ravioli but they had no taste. My wife was pleased with her branzino although the clams that accompanied it were rubbery. \n\nOh and the salad we ordered sounded interesting - but the waiter forgot our order and just brought the entrees. I have had two lunches this week at Vespaio. Love the quiet vibe. The salads were very good. It is too bad that one can not get a small cup of soup with a salad and/or sandwich. I wanted to add soup each time, but did not want a large bowl, just a cup to add to my meal. I think the restaurant loses out but not adding smaller side dishes with the main meal.\nNo salt or pepper was on the table. Had to ask for it each time. Had to ask for fresh ground pepper on salads.\nNon alcoholic beverages could be served in a larger glass. We found we were also asking for refills when one large glass filled would have been sufficient . A few more wines by the class would add to the experience.\nService mostly professional, but not always aware of missing items. I suspect when it gets a rhythm, it will all work out.

It's a struggle to find affordable pre-theater dining, and Vespaio falls into the category of being over-priced for what you get. Simply put, they serve routine dining fare - I had risotto with wild mushrooms. Way too much salt! Some of the entrees would be interesting to try, but the high prices ($30+) make Vespaio much more of an occasion restaurant rather than a pre-theater site. And, given that the food doesn't quite satisfy the gourmet foodie impulse, the restaurant is in peculiar territory - probably one reason it is not very crowded and why Otium, next door - and a far more refined restaurant - does not seem to be struggling. I think Vespaio is still trying to find its voice.

We were expecting to have the beef carpaccio as a starter as well, but our waiter failed to put in the order for it. He apologized and acknowledged the failure. At the end of the day it was no big deal as we had plenty of food anyway as the portions are quite generous. The wine list was surprisingly weak and had a 300%-400% markup over retail. The list of reds had fewer than a dozen full-bodied selections and consisted of a combination of cheap and expensive but few options in-between. A must for those going to Disney, Music Centre, Art Museums, and other. Agostino Sciandri, owner of some of the best Italian restaurants in Los Angeles, moves to downtown. Beautifully designed restaurant, food is as excellent as ever. Italian fare, some items with a modern twist. Good portion size, great quality. Prices in the middling range of those for today. Service, a little slow. However, time will cure that. One menu problem that surprised me.....being charged $3.00 for bread. Frankly, bread - whatever form it takes, should always be free! Lastly, parking. Apparently as this is a new building, loading and parking are a problem with the City at the moment. There is no valet parking, therefore, one must find a meter or, park in the Disney Hall or the Music Centre. I understand that the restaurant is trying to come to an understanding with the City in the very near future, and will have a Valet. Highly recommend this as a great alternative to other downtown restaurants.

The food was prepared well, but the menu does not fully describe the presentation, so best to ask. For example, the monkfish was delicious but it was cut up into pieces in a lot of sauce, like a stew - not what we expected. Pre-theatre service seemed a bit harried; staff seemed overwhelmed and a bit disjointed - we couldn't tell who was in charge. Regarding ambience, this restaurant hits the right balance between a happy, energetic vibe yet quiet enough that we could have a nice conversation without shouting. This was my fourth visit to Vespaio, and I'll be back again. Highly recommended if you are looking for lunch or dinner near the Broad Museum or Disney Concert Hall.

This was our second time to dine at Vespaio! The service was superior, as it was the previous time. The menu is full of wonderful choices. The fried calamari was perfect. Tender and lightly breaded. Loved both the dipping sauces. Had the paparadelle with the boar ragu! Fantastic (had it last time too) The rotisserie chicken was moist and flavorful. My husband had the seafood ravioli. I didn't care for it, but he liked it. I really love the place. We've been seated on the front patio both occasions. I like that area of the space. Wouldn't mind trying the inside sometime, but it hasn't been offered either time. Will continue to dine here!

The music the plsyed is club music and this is a restaurant. It was too too loud and made us yell to talk. The restaurant was not crowded and where we would have enjoyed a nice meal, we could not wait to leave. They cater to an art and music center crowd by location and I felt I was in disco. They need to figure out what they want to be.

This was my second time dining at Vespaio. I always try to give restaurants a second chance. The food wasn't bad although I can recommend better Italian in downtown. The service was very mediocre at best. It seems that the servers are all very inexperienced in working in a restaurant (much less an upscale restaurant in downtown). The place is cramped to say the least. The tables are so close together that the servers have to crawl over the other patrons to serve the food or just stretch and reach over people to hand you the food. I can't recommend vespaio in any situation. There are many choices in downtown for a great dining experience. Vespaio isn't one of them.

I ate here in late 2015 and the food and service were both excellent. However, I can only assume that all the good people were fired in the 10 months that passed before my second dining experience. To be fair, my business associate said that her raviolis were excellent. Mine, on the other hand, was not. I had the pappardelle with boar ragu. While it was a flavorful dish, the pasta was overcooked and some of it was stuck together in a large chunk, probably from a lack of stirring while it was being rendered to some form of paste.\nWhile we were half way through our meal, a waiter showed up to remove our plates. We told him we were not finished. He showed up again toward the end of our meal and whisked away our plates as if the restaurant had a desperate need of dishes. My associate said it felt a little rushed, an understatement.\nThis is a great location and setting next to the Board Museum, but someone has launched a sinister plot to put a large 'for lease' sign in their front window.

Any new restaurant is worthy of trying, especially when it is next door to your apartment! So, I did step into the bar a few weeks ago, soon after the opening, and had a very pleasant evening, the drinks, the bartender, and the Calamari appetizer were great. So, a friend and I were to attend a concert at Red Cat and I suggested Vespaio. We had a wonderful evening, relaxed, with a friendly and attentive waiter. My Rotisserie Lamb was succulent, we shared a first course Beet and Goat Cheese Salad (excellent) and she had the Salmon. Next time, a dessert, we had to get going to the concert. The service was unbelievably good. The wait staff was genuinely welcoming and friendly without overdoing it (Vespaio management, we spent double what we would have based on the interaction with the staff). We felt like we were with friends. The ambience, we sat on the patio, made me feel like I was sitting on a grand boulevard in Florence. Furnishings comfortable (I can't say that about many places). Cocktails were strong and generous, not to mention delicious. The Piece de Resistance was the food. We were staying at The Omni (across street) and ate here the two nights in a row. Night #1 was minestrone (superb and healthy), then I had boar ragu that was so satisfying and delicious. My husband started with baked sardines that he loved; they were so different from anything we'd had before. His entree was cavatelli so good he cleaned the plate. They had Taittinger by the glass, rare that. What a treat. The next night I had baby spinach salad, so tasty, hubby had kale salad, good. My entree, pork chop was cooked and seasoned to perfection. My husband had sardines with pasta. He loved the sardines so...again he cleaned his plate. We had a Malbec that was a great value, very good for price. Brandies, martinis. If your in LA and don't visit, your missing out on a great experience.

We tried Vespaio for dinner on a week night. The outdoor sitting area is a beautiful cozy patio with comfortable furnishings in a great location next to the Broad. We were shocked and dissappointed at the poor quality of food from the most basic dishes. The Heirloom tomato burrata Caprese salad was inedible. The tomatoes were not heirloom with a mealy texutre and no flavor. The cheese was also old with a bad taste. We sent it away. For an entree we had the rotisserie chicken and roasted potatoes that tasted and looked like it had been reheated several times. The only thing we liked was the pizza bread. We sincerly hope this restaurant adopts a different attitude and stops skimping on food quality. What a great location near both the Broad Museum & the Music Center, What a shame that the food just was not good. We started with pizza (always a good gauge of an Italian restaurant) and the special calamari salad. The pizza crust was soft, not crisp and there was little, if any crunch to the edges. Before I ordered the calamari salad I asked the waiter if they were large or small calamari- he promised 'very small, baby size'. What was served was the largest I've ever seen & the insides of the strips were purple with slimy sac residue. Totally disgusting, not properly cleaned. After facing that, I was done. Forever.

We were delighted with our first dinner at Vespaio, although the service at this new restaurant is still a little rough around the edges. We watched as a server (not our waiter) brought out salads to another table, only to return to the kitchen before he finally served them to us. 'Did you guys order wine?' asked yet another server when she brought our (correct) glasses of wine. However, these goofs were handled with good humor, and we think they have more to do with the restaurant's newness (and busy-ness) than to any permanent glitches. \n\nMore positively, everything we ordered was delicious, including a shredded artichoke and arugula salad and a perfectly cooked rotisserie chicken served with roasted rosemary potatoes. Branzino, also delicious, was served whole and deboned tableside--not quite expertly, but without mishap. The winelist includes excellent California and Italian selections and is, for the most part, fairly priced (avoid sparkling water, however, which is freakishly priced at $7 per bottle, and stick to tap). We did not save room for dessert, save for a plate of what turned out to be unusually delicious cookies--a nice accompaniment to the excellent coffee and espresso. Once it works out its slightly glitchy service--which should not be enough to keep you away--Vespaio will be a worthy addition to the neighborhood. We thought it was perfect for dinner before a concert at DIsney Hall, which is just a block away.

This was my first time at the restaurant, and I was anxious to give it a try, as a good alternative to Kendall's for pre-opera dining. We weren't disappointed. The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly and attentive. There was a slight glitch when one of our three entrees (the daily special) did not arrive with the other two, and I had to wait about 5-8 minutes for it. But they were appropriately apologetic, and the manager took the price of that entree off the bill - which wasn't necessary, but a very classy thing to do. We'll certainly be back.

My friend and I had a reservation for dinner before our performance at Colburn School. We mentioned that we were in a bit of a hurry and they helped us get in and out in perfect time. The rotisserie chicken was delicious with the potatoes and the watercress salad with beets and goat cheese was yummy! It's on the pricey side for me but I'd go back for a special occasion.

I have been to Vespaio several times now and the food is always good, served nicely and as ordered. They are relatively flexible with changes to side dishes and we appreciate that. But $3 for bread? The bread is good but for heavens' sake, at those prices (Vespaio is not cheap) they can at least give you bread without charge. Perhaps they can charge for a second serving but I thought that was really nickel and dime-ing the patrons who are already paying quite a bit! It just seems silly.

We had a 6:15 reservation, as we were going to a concert at 8. Unfortunately, they had taken too many reservations for that time, and we had to wait 15 minutes. The hostess was overwhelmed and simply avoided looking at any guests, but finally the manager came over, apologized, and as he was about to seat us, offered us free glasses of champagne. Since we had to eat right away, we asked for wine instead, and he agreed immediately. So I will give them another chance. (At 7:45,when we had to leave, the place felt calm and civilized.) \n\nOn a separate note, the fried calamari were nicely prepared, although the two dipping sauces were bland. The cooked seafood was cooked too long.

Food was very good , especially the desert. 2 large donuts with custard. Amazing!\nAfter lunch I went to the ladies room. As I approached the bathroom two buss boys in their aprons passed me and went into the ladies room. A lady was inside washing her hands. Didn't care went right in and one turned around and said to me you have to wait we will clean here. Will be done in two minutes. No gloves mind you. While I stood in the doorway and the lady was at the sink they grabbed some paper towels and sort of started walking into the toilet are and started wiping the unused sink when I said I can't wait. They walked out into the restaurant with the dirty paper towels, no gloves in their serving aprons. No apology for this unacceptable action. When I told the male manager he argued with me that they have an A . No apology! I just spend $130 for lunch and it made me sick to have had this experience! Decided to try Vespaio despite some negative reviews on certain restaurant websites. If attending a concert or show downtown, it is a good alternative to Patina or Kendall's although I intend to revisit both. The food was good and the portions adequate. Nothing extraordinary. We both had an appetizer and pasta and were too full to order dessert. We arrived at 6pm and had more than enough time to make our 8pm concert. Our one mistake was ordering the bread for which they charge extra. It was not served with the appetizers and despite my requests for it, it wasn't served until we were almost finished with our main courses. It was cold and tasted stale. I would probably return as it is very convenient and has its own valet parking which is a definite plus. The food was tasty and the prices comparable to Kendall's.

Discovered Vespaio a few months ago when going to the Disney. No reservation, so ate at the bar. We enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and beverages. We were looking forward to our next concert and made reservations well in advance. What a disappointment! Our table was not ready for us, after a 15 minute wait we were escorted to a table on the empty patio. This was dinner, not lunch! We declined the table and went to the bar instead. The supposed manager came by and actually argued with us about their lack of having a dining room table as reserved. No compensation as is customary in most restaurants or an apology. This place is average at best and its management is unprofessional. Looks like we stay with tried and true Kendall in the future.

We ate here on the spur of the moment before a Disney Hall concert. Downtown L.A. was very quiet and so was this restaurant, probably because it was a holiday weekend. In any case, this was a top-rate Italian meal. My artichoke carpaccio and house-made ravioli were superb, including the portion size (not overly large). A Bellini cocktail was well made, as was my husband's gin martini (and he is very particular about them). The wine list had several wines by the glass from which to choose. Finally, the espresso was perfectly made, something I never take for granted in any restaurant. We were warmly welcomed and expertly served. We can't wait to come back and bring our friends.

My particular meal (Topini pasta with lobster) was inedible. It tasted fishy and there was no lobster anywhere to be found. However, my friends and family all seemed to have picked good dishes. I ate a lot of my daughter's risotto, and my husband's pizza was good. As soon as we arrived, we informed the waiter that we had to get to the opera, and yet he took an extremely long time, mostly chatting with other patrons, before taking our order. This caused a great deal of undue stress. It also meant we would not have time for dessert. The only thing that saved us was the kitchen which seemed to prepare the food quite quickly.

Vespaio was chosen advisedly from an on-line search because I needed somewhere that would serve us in a celebratory manner at 5:30 in the afternoon given that we were attending the Opera at LA's Music Centre and the Curtain was at 7:30pm! So not a lot of time to linger but we also didn't want to feel rushed and didn't want 'fast food'! Vespaio seemed to fit the bill and what's more - it was offering a Happy Hour at that time! \n\nWe were greeted at the door by the most charming and efficient Maitre D' - Cosimo - he led us straight to our prepared and reserved table. Our order was taken quickly but without an instant of us feeling rushed, wine and water arrived within a minute of our ordering, with a chiller bucket efficiently brought along side - no need to ask! The first course came out within 10 minutes and was freshly prepared in the open and immaculate kitchen. Another 10 minutes between our courses allowed us to feel easy about the time and to enjoy the utterly delicious and totally freshly made pastas that we had ordered. We didn't think for a second that there would be time for a desert and coffee but because of the phenomenal teamwork at this excellent restaurant, there was - we were even able to linger over it! The check arrived discreetly with the gentle words 'Whenever you're ready! We know you are heading to the Opera!' By 7:15 we were headed to our seats at the Music Centre and our hedonistic, delicious and indulgently excellent meal only served to make the evening utterly memorable! \n\nWould we recommend it? Unwaveringly! So much so that exactly one week later we are returning because we are attending another show - this time at the Ahmanson Theatre and once again Vespaio serves because of it's proximity but as we said 'Are we being boring by returning just one week later?' NO! We are returning because we believe Vespaio is hard to beat!

Good food and friendly staff. We had early dinner reservations so that we could catch a show at the music center. We told our waitress that we had a show to catch right when we sat down just so she would be aware. Food service was still very slow, they were also out of 2 items that we initially tried to order. We ordered dessert but had to cancel it because it was taking too much time to come out. The Ahmanson theatre website advertises the restaurant gives a 15% discount with your play ticket. Our waitress knew nothing about it and said she would ask the manager. Our bill finally came out but did not have any discount included. We were so late at this point because of the delays and slow service that we just paid and left. We still ended up late to our show. Overall I think this restaurant had good potential and the food we had was good, but it was disappointing that they were so unorganized on a Sunday night.

I have eaten here twice as it is so convenient to Music Center. Food is good, portions nor enormous, a bit pricey. Staff is friendly but needs a little more training. Example: waiter brought my glass of wine when we were well into our appetizers, and it was wrong (white, I ordered red). He did replace it at once. While waiter was in the middle of taking our order, another waiter approached him and they carried on a conversation while we waited for his attention. On the positive side staff checked in to make sure we were enjoying our food and seemed sincere; they also ensured that we were on time for our concert. I wish the less familiar Italian in menu descriptions were translated. Overall, a few bumps but given limited choice within walking distance I will probably eat there again.

My companion & I were looking for a restaurant that matched 2 criteria (besides good food and good wine – that must be a given): 1) near Walt Disney/Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (only a 5 minute walk away) and 2) quiet. We asked to be seated in the beautiful patio area – which is covered, so you can enjoy the feeling of being outside, in the perfect SoCal temperature without being ridiculously blasted by A/C; (if you or your dinner companions prefer, there is also a large and gracious dining area inside with A/C). The food was beautiful; and artistically prepared. The menu truly offered something for all tastes, from vegetarian broths for the soup bases, to vegetarian pasta dishes, several fish dishes, steak, and even lamb shank. It is a classic Northern Italian menu, with a lean toward tastes of the Veneto. The Menu is ala carte; if you are super hungry, order an antipasto, a primo (pasta, risotto or gnocchi) and a secondo (meat or fish). My companion and I are light eaters, so we split an antipasto and each ordered a primo. Perfetto! The wait staff we encountered were all Italian, very warm, yet polite and gracious. We went with their wine recommendations which were also “perfetto.” \nFinally: one note about ambient noise: in my opinion, it is getting harder to find quiet restaurants, but restaurateurs, please know that there is still a population out there (like me and all my friends!) that actually want to interact and have substantive dinner conversation (i.e. does not want a TV screen posted in every corner, nor loud music blasting from speakers overhead.) I have to give Vespaio extra gold stars on this point as well… so even if the food had not been top notch (which it was indeed, make no mistake), I would still return for the ambience alone. Therefore, whether you need to talk serious business or want a romantic dinner, you will have your needs met on the patio space at Vespaio.

Tables are clustered near the front door, which is cold and makes diners feel like they are on view of all who enter. This place is full of museum visitors and business diners, so beware of being seated next to a loud group in the latter case. Some items on the menu are quite good; others seem bland and skimpy (the beet salad had about 4 slivers of beets on a mountain of greens). Avoid the dessert the waiter recommends: the apple crumble is undercooked and tasted like dough. Some of the waiters seem like they are just going through the motions and want to get you out of there as soon as possible. Failed to make eye contact or smile. This new restaurant near the Broad looks like a fun place. But under the surface, they haven't figured out how to serve customers.\nOur server relegated most of our table's service to a trainee. He didn't know any of the menu's ingredients, which teas the restaurant had, or if any special requests could be met. I was with a party of three and asked if I could have a soup and a couple of scrambled eggs due to a required diet for a medical procedure the next day. The server said no and when I asked the manager to ask the chef, I got a second no. They apparently only know how to scramble eggs on the weekends. Give me a break.\nThe rest of the food was ok, but nothing different or interesting other than the sandwiches coming on a board. The carrot soup had little seasoning, and my guest's minestrone looked like a pile of boiled vegetables. I don't like writing bad reviews, I know people generally work hard...but since Open Table asked, here it is. \n\nOur reservation was for 5:30, but a new Uber driver caused us to be late so we arrived at 5:45. We were seated right away-in a sad little deserted section of the restaurant near the cafe and restrooms. I asked my if anything out on the patio was available, he replied that the restaurant was pretty full, but he would check. The restaurant was 'full' so great I get to look at the restrooms.\n\nI had to ask for a wine list, and I had to grab a set of silverware, salt & pepper off of a nearby table. 'I just need a glass of malbec and it'll be fine,' I thought, but I didn't see a malbec available by the glass. When I asked my server, he said you did have malbec by the glass, and then he looked at the menu and said, 'oh, I guess we don't anymore, sorry.' Alrighty, we'll just get 2 glasses of cabernet.\n\nSo I specifically had my heart set on the vegetable risotto, only to find out it wasn't available as a dinner option. At this point the music jumped up to an abnormally loud volume and then went out and came back up. This would happen a few times.\n\nOur wine arrives, and my initial thought was, 'wow, that's a tight ass little pour there' which was later confirmed when my neighbor had an actual glass of wine delivered to her. I also had cork floating in my wine. 'Hopefully the food will be amazing.' The benefit of sitting near the cafe is that I could easily grab a straw to extract the cork from my wine. But the busser proceeded to chastise me about that, 'Ma'am, ma'am, next time just ask me for that please. It's my job.' \n\nI laughed it off along with the entire experience. We ate our meal which was good, but not great, and we left. It was so disappointing, and I had felt at anytime that any of the staff was concerned about our experience, I may have spoken up then. \n\nI definitely will not be back.

After almost a year in existence, this restaurant is still finding its way. Service was reminiscent of a staff who are still learning what to do. They gave away our table even though we came for our lunch reservation on time. They missed one of 5 orders--a pizza! And like any other restaurant still finding its way, the managers had to comp some cookies for the hassle. Tried it again the following week for dinner hoping that dinner would be better but we were met with the same lack luster service. For the price of a meal at dinner time, you'd think you will get better service but the staff can't even remember the specials without looking at a cheat sheet. The food did not fair any better. It is a suburban restaurant food with a high price tag. Prosciutto pizza crust was hard with the prosciutto just laid flat on the pizza. Our kids did not eat the pizza. They drenched the rotisserie chicken with sauce outside that made the skin soggy to mask the dry chicken inside, and the guazetto had small pieces of seafood in a bland tomato base. It would have been better with a clear soup base. Dinner bill was $98 for 3 entrees and water for drinks so you can understand why I would hope for better service and better food. If you must try it, ask for a pasta dish--they seem to do that best. I had the ravioli special for lunch and it was good.

Vespaio is one of my favorite restaurants! Chef Ago is a hands-on chef who takes the quality of his dishes very seriously. The food is excellent, whether coming from the wood fired oven, the rotisserie, or from the hand of their talented pastry chef Simone. This place is abuzz with parties, and has a large beautiful patio overlooking Grand Ave as well as a private dining room for more intimate gatherings. The wine list is terrific as is the bar program, with inventive twists on Italian favorites.

This is a lovely restaurant space in one of the best settings imaginable - downtown Los Angeles, opening onto a small park and facing the new Broad Museum. Given the prices and the expectations that come with such a great atmosphere, the food was mediocre at best. I had the Nicoise salad and it couldn't have been less inspired. Disappointing!

I had food poisoning from the dinner (the ravioli special). Consequently I could not attend the second and third part of the theater we had tickets for that same evening at the Mark Taper Forum. It was a very bad experience for me.

I have been to Vespaio three times since they opened. I subscribe to the Philharmonic and attend other events at the Music Center so was excited to see this restaurant open. The first time was a disaster, with an unacceptable delay for the main dish, caused by 'an order of 30 pizzas to-go' according to the manager. They were apologetic, and so I tried a second time two weeks ago. Unfortunately the service was still slow. The menu is more complicated than it appears. I mentioned my concerns again to management. I tried one more time last week. Still the servers are not as familiar as they should be with the food, specials, and wines. And still it took more than 30 minutes to have a main dish brought out (and long after the appetizers were gone). The manager tried to help get things moving, but made no accommodation on our bill, or any apology. After three unfortunate visits, I am sad to say I won't be back. I think this place is looking to survive on drinks and happy hour. That may be their strong suit. The service for dinner is not good. Perhaps they needed more time to train and prepare the staff. They don't seem ready for prime time. Too bad, because I really wanted to like this place, as it is convenient to the Music Center and Disney Hall.

Vespaio has the potential to be a great restaurant . The setting and decor are very pleasant . I had sea bass that was delicious . My friends had a spinach salad that was great and a fried chicken panini that was dry and disappointing . We will come again to give it another shot.

We went with their wine recommendations which were also “perfetto.” \nFinally: one note about ambient noise: in my opinion, it is getting harder to find quiet restaurants, but restaurateurs, please know that there is still a population out there (like me and all my friends!) that actually want to interact and have substantive dinner conversation (i.e. does not want a TV screen posted in every corner, nor loud music blasting from speakers overhead.) I have to give Vespaio extra gold stars on this point as well… so even if the food had not been top notch (which it was indeed, make no mistake), I would still return for the ambiance alone. Therefore, whether you need to talk serious business or want a romantic dinner, you will have your needs met at Vespaio.

Enjoyed the food, the Italian waiters, the scene, and the size. Vespaio is big enough to accommodate downtown crowds for all that's happening on that strip of Grand, the new cultural capital of L.A. that's fast becoming an international destination for art, architecture and music. A great place for people watching with both sophisticated, stylish and more casually dressed diners and all of the hustle and bustle promised by the name, Vespaio, which our Sicilian waiter said was Italian for beehive, yet the noise level doesn't rise to the pain point and conversation is actually possible. Hard to know where the best seats are, watching the long wall of the open kitchen, or in the patio and street side with great views of all that's going on in that area, including the lively new pedestrian parade, or sitting at the bar and watching the action from there. Food is good, as well, imaginative enough Italian, lively wine list, great coffee, perfect accompaniment to plate of Italian cookies for dessert. And did I mention it's NOT part of the Pinot Empire, the restaurant that ate L.A.? Grazie y bella!

Spinach salad and roast chicken were outstanding, but the burger was overcooked and over-packed so it was like a hockey puck. The chef seems to be a little imperious, so don't ask for anything to be substituted or made 'without' something. I guess that's his right...to a point. I'll try it again as friends like it and go often, but only time will tell. It's certainly better than the other limited options in the area. Decor inside is very nice as is the outside with a view of The Broad Museum's olive trees.

Vespaio is very close to Disney Hall, so I booked dinner here at 6:00 p.m., allowing us plenty of time for dinner before the 8:00 p.m. concert. \n\nWe were prepared to enjoy our meal, in a relatively laid-back manner. I know, it's weird to complain about service being TOO quick, but it really was. \n\nOur entrees arrives two minutes after our bread (and less than 10 minutes after we ordered), which surprised us. But the food was delicious and well-prepared. The chicken melted in my mouth. \n\nAt this point, may I suggest that half a chicken is just too much for one person for one meal?\n\nMy husband ordered tea, but I didn't, and when the waiter came to take our dessert order, he rushed away after I'd placed mine, not giving my husband a chance to speak. Luckily, we were able to catch the eye of one of the managers, who spoke to the waiter.\n\nOnce again, service was very quick, and we were finished our meal by 7:05, and we felt we'd been rushed, though the manager explained that their customers generally wanted to be in and out quickly. I had put a not in my OpenTable reservation that our concert didn't start tll 8:00, so I'm unsure why they assumed this.\n\nThe waiter, by the way, was very knowledgeable about the menu as well as wine pairings. I'm sorry I didn't ask his name (though he should rightly have introduced himself).

Service wasn't up to expected standards - though our waiter recognized my husband from lunch a few days prior and did everything he could to rectify the situation. Ordered soup to start - never arrived; my lamb shank wasn't hot, so sent it back. Food was very good, once we started to eat. And both the manager and our waiter (sorry I don't know his name...) were very apologetic and accommodating, so will certainly give the restaurant another chance. It's very convenient to Disney Hall - definitely a plus.

On recommendation from a friend who dined here several times and mixed reviews, my friend and I tried Vespaio before a Disney Hall concert. As an hors d'oeuvre we ordered the calamari and veggie appetizer which turned out to be the best part of our meal, but the thinly cut veggies were hard to handle with the fork provided. A plateful of steamed mussels was my entree; I was prepared for a lot of broth to soak the baguette I ordered but it seemed as though it steamed away. I had to request a small fork to replace the dinner fork to pull out the tiniest pieces of mussel meat in the shell. Then I asked for a bowl to put the shells in, items that should automatically be brought to the table when ordering mussels. It seemed to take forever to get a waiter's attention who apologized for the error. My dinner partner ordered the filet mignon entree which was ordinary, just acceptable. I would say what bothered us most was the lack of attention and service; the restaurant was half empty on a Friday concert night and there was no excuse.

We were so pleased to find Vespaio just across from our hotel and in the immediate vicinity of the new Broad Museum, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and all the theaters of the LA Music Center! Our meals were delicious both visits, once for lunch and another for dinner. Salmon cooked just right and served with a terrific caponata, lamb was perfect, delish panini, a nice Nicoise salad hit the spot on a very hot day. Service was a bit uneven both times but the place is brand new, so that's understandable and forgiven: drinks took a long time to arrive, waitstaff wasn't fully familiar with the menu or bar offerings, brunch was not available on Sunday even though the sign out front indicates that brunch is offered, the dining space was a bit hectic with lots of extra to-and-fro activity that's often a part of getting the kinks out of a new establishment. However, we'll keep going, and we are so glad to have a delicious new place to dine in this area...there's loads of promise here!

The food was okay, service was terrible. They forgot to bring the appetizer we ordered. The bread [which was a $3 charge] was stale, and we did not receive the replacement bread suggested by the waiter. There was an overcharge for the wine we ordered. The manager seemed to be all around, trying to put out fires, but never made it to our table. We thought it might be due to recent opening, but waiter advised that Restaurant was opened over 3 months ago.

This place is a great spot, and adds to the ambience of the new plaza next to Broad Museum. We've come here twice, and though we are of a certain age, we did not feel out of place with all the young people who were livening up the bar area. Truly a great community spot for all! There are so many things to see and do on Grand, and this complex adds so much to the overall cohesiveness of the area. OK, onto the food and service. Delicious!!! We shared a pizza and salad on our first visit. The beer list was great, and we loved the Belgium blonde ale...forgot the name. The server was helpful, and patient with my questions. Our next visit we were on someone else's dime, so we experienced the entrees. Among the group we ordered the ravioli with saffron sauce, a pasta with prosciutto sauce, eggplant parmiagiana, and another ragu sauced pasta. All delicious! We ended with assorted cookies and apple crumble for dessert. The service by the delightful Venetian Giancarlo was fun. I think it was his first day at the restaurant. I hope he stays, he adds to the delight of an Italian restaurant. Our single complaint was that the beverage glasses are so small!

Really nice addition to Bunker Hill's restaurant options, which seem to be lagging behind the rest of DTLA. I'm definitely going back - will make this a regular stop. Only had lunch this time. Hope to do a dinner soon cause the dinner menu looked awesome. There seemed to be a few large groups in the restaurant for lunch when we were there, but that didn't seem to interrupt us at all. Noise level, which I'm sensitive to, wasn't bad at all. It's gonna be PACKED once the Broad next door opens in a week or so.

In a city notable for interesting and excellent dining experiences, Vespaio will have to work a little harder. On a slow Saturday night, my companion and I were asked to wait to be seated because the 'hostess was on break'. This was at 7pm on a Saturday evening. Although there appeared to be both owner and more senior people, we waited....and waited. Finally we just seated ourselves.\n\nThe service was slow, the rotisserie chicken's joints were still pink, the porchetta was under seasoned and the plate was composed without any thought to presentation.

We were staying at the Omni, downtown LA and wanted a place for a relaxing lunch before our couples massage at the Bonaventure Club. Vespaio was a perfect choice. Since we were from out of town, I read several reviews about top LA chef's on Eater LA and Vespaio was noted as a long awaited new spot by chef, Agostino Sciandri . The location was perfect as it was just a short walk from the Omni. The deco is beautiful, spacious and regal. The weather was a bit hot to sit on the lovely outdoor patio so we dined inside where Stephen was our waiter and everyone was very attentive. He was sure to make us feel welcomed and informed as to good meal choices. We both had salads, the nicoise and the marinated chicken along with a cool refreshing glass of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. I had the chicken severed with farro and corn which had a nice tangy flavor along with interesting crispness from the corn and farro. Perfect for pre massage to get us in the mood. Will go back for dinner next time in LA and hopefully it will be cool enough to dine al fresco.

The patio space, open kitchen concept, and high ceilings sets a great vibe for the restaurant. The service could be better as I was confused which waiter was serving me. Two approached our table at the beginning. The tagliatelle could have been a bit more al dente but the porcini beef sauce was very flavorful. Shaved Parmesan would have been helpful but we were served powdered parm over the pasta which tends to clump in a dish. The sea bass was prepared simply and well but in comparison to Drago's Branzino, the Drago dish wins hands down. Also comparing bombaloni's between this joint and Drago, Vespaio's is more like an ordinary glazed Winchell's doughy doughnut hole with heavy dipping sauces while Drago's are light and airy with more refined flavors. Overall the food was solid and a great corporate restaurant. However could improve to attract a more refined foodie palette.

Welcome Vespaio! Bunker Hill is in dire need of fine restaurants. I know you're new on the block and need time to work out some kinks. Mainly service was way too relaxed for lunch those w/jobs are required to be back at work w/in the hour. The menu is ample w/a variety of choices in all categories. We ordered 1 appetizer and 3 entrees it took over 45 minutes to be served unfortunately not much time to savior our food. We loved our meals anyway:-). I've been to Vespaio several times and have always requested seating on their gorgeous patio. However, stormy weather on Sunday disallowed use of the patio (Waaa). So, we sat in a booth near the open kitchen. As ever, the food was impeccable. (Ravioli with sage/butter sauce, carpaccio of beef and of artichoke, seared octopus; never a false note.)\n\nIf I could have one wish, it would be that we could have sat at a bar along the open kitchen to watch the action, if we couldn't sit on the patio. So this place just opened up a couple weeks ago. I went for the 'soft opening' and then again once it was officially open. Though the restaurant is really pretty and the food is good... you can tell by the service that it's a NEW restaurant and the servers/staff seem inexperienced. Both times I have gone it has taken FOREVER to get our drinks. (BTW, order bottled water, their regular water has a funky after taste) The manager and staff are very nice but they seem to not communicate with each other because different staff will approach your table asking you the same question. it just seems like the servers don't have much experience working at high end restaurants ..and I believe Vespaiao holds itself out to be 'high end' It is surprising that a restaurant that boasts the same chef as Ago would have such unseasoned service. \n\nIn closing and to belabor the point, I called last night to find out the 'corkage fee'.. a woman with a limited vocabulary answered and she didn't know what a corkage fee was. She responded that they 'didn't have parking right now' but they offered valet. Finally when I explained what a corkage fee was and I asked her to go ask her supervisor, she came back after a LONG hold time and said it was '$20 per wine' . Dude! Really!? You don't know 'corkage fee'?
