I liked the view, the hotel bar and fire place, the locationof the hotel plus the staff were excellant. Free parking was very good too. The fact that we were not stayingin the actual building but an annexe which had paper thin adjoining walls. This was not mentioned when purchainsg the room and for the price this should be a prioroty in terms of letting the customer know. I wouldn't have paid that money if I knew what room I would be in. Admittedly I booked late but the room did not reflect the price.
Pleasant staff, quiet, excellent bar area There was no lift
Exellent facilities and well worth the money would recomend it Couldnt find any
The views TV was poor reception
Chef was inflexible regarding replacement dishes which were unavailable.
Lovely location, friendly and attentive staff, excellent price Room was smaller than what I've had before when staying at the hotel, but was of a good standard
Comfort and food Parking can be difficult
Excellent river view bar - lovely food, nice relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast organisation was poor and the full breakfast was cold and a little greasy
Very comfortable, helpful staff, good food
It was a brilliant get away for the evening, the food was good value for money and the staff were very friendly. will defiantly go back
Clean tidy helpful staff were realy good couldnt do enough for us. Where we stopped on the second night a little yappie dog kept us awake all night and was not impressed it was allowed in dining area.
The restaurant was very clean and well decorated.the food was well presented on hot plates and the food was very good.the bar prices were competitive and all the staff were pleasant You had to get the knack of flushing the toilet in the bedroom.it flushed well but it needed a priming before flushing.the was no hair dryer in the room.
Very nice hotel, loved our stay. Have remarked on Trip Advisor
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very good. Location is an excellent base for exploring the area. Shower tray flooded after a few minutes of use, kept having to turn the shower off to let the tray drain then turn the water back on. Oneo f the bedside lights was missing a bulb
excellent accomoodation, great food, very comfortable.
Warm Reception area
Very pleasant location Hotel lacked the provision of services normally taken as given, could be so much better with a little attention from management
Very nice hotel and had a warm and friendly atmosphere. Would like to come back in the near future! The room was a little cold when we arrived (it was freezing outside) but the staff were quick to sort out the heating when we asked them.
Beautiful location. Friendly staff. Good value.
Good location, good value, attentive staff and service Hotel is slightly dilapidated. Fabric and condition of the building is 2 * as oddicial rating but service and friendliness of new owners is 4 or 5*
PLeasant room , helpful staff , pity about the location so close to a busy road but efforts obviously made to keep bedroom as quiet as possible limited range of blended whiskies
The hospitality of mine hosts Richard & Kelly We hope they make the business a thriving success. They deserve this
Charming, professional ambience. Exquisite cuisine. Friendly knowledgeable management and staff. Will certain recommend and return.
Very welcoming. Professionally run. Tasteful decor. Excellent food.
It was under new management, just one month, and they provided an excellent service. The hotel has got run down and needs refurbishing. The new management are keen to do this and have already started with the visitors lounge. If this is anything to go from the refukrbishment will go well.
I arrived very tied after a long journey, but was immediately made to feel at home by the very friendly staff
New owners were very welcoming and helpful. Hotel was conveniently located and easy to find.
New owners. Arrived that day. Presented as very pleasant and ensured that our stay was satisfactory. We have no complaints and only wish them well.
Excellent staff, food, luxury rooms and quiet location made for a very relaxing break without children!
Peaceful surroundings, internal decor, quality of food, made to feel at home by owners and staff.
Beautiful location, lovely room overlooking the River Wye, attentive, friendly staff and superb food. Will definitely go again. A high powered shower would have been nice.
We like the food and the rooms
The rooms were lovely and the turndown service was great There was over 45 mins waiting time for our order to be taken at dinner- after our 8pm table booking time and then a futher 35 mins for our starters to arrive. Overpriced food for what it was- yes a nice steak but starters were poor.
The riverside location. Welcoming staff. Roaring fire in the bar. Large, warm room with lots of windows and views. Well appointed bathroom. Decent sized sitting area in the room with flat screen TV and digital channels. Good evening menu and delicious food. Another good riverside pub with excellent food two minutes walk away Continental breakfast was rather sparse, Cooked breakfast was extra but much better.
Great location, good food - a little expensive corridors looked dated
The position of the hotel in symonnds yat and the veiw from the hotel was fantastic. the staff were friendly and polite The en suite was poor with the washbasin in the main room, the bed linen was untidy and the room cold at times, although it was extreme cold weather!!
Food surprisingly good, well presented and professional waiting staff. Rooms/facilities looked a little tired and 1970s, but comfortable enough.
beautiful setting. good restaurant/bar
Beautiful location and stunning veiws Continental breakfast was poor
the setting very run down-no tv in rooms-shower uncontrollable
Position Unable to get a full breakfast as paid for becase it the time was too late for me. I was on business not pleasure. the staff did put out some ceral for me.
Excellent location, good room with river view, good food in the restaurant
Good Service excellent food fantastic location
staff very friendly and helpful, pleasant location, good cooked breakfast, nice well run hotel.
The hotel is nicely situated, the food good, the staff pleasant, good patking. The hotel looked rather jaded, the bedroom was very cold and took a long time to warm
The food was excellent and we particularly liked the buffet breakfast which was different to the last time we stayed there. The lady in reception/ bar/ waitressing was excellent even though she appeared to be doing 3 jobs. The room was cold. I appreciate it was -6 deg outside but ...Thankfully we had an electric heater in the bathroom.
Easy to find, impressive country house in attrctive surroundings with fine views. A little worn around the edges but excellent value nonetheless.
Staff - very nice
Heated outdoor swimming pool and lovely walks in the surrounding area Not enough information displayed about where the swimmimg pool was situated
very friendly, accomodating and welcoming staff. warmth of atmosphere; very good food. surrounding countryside wonderful
food and service are excellent room 10 in which I stayed was a bit cramped
Breakfast was good Hotel quite derelict. Facilities in the room poor. Couldn't find the swimming pool. Have stayed in much better B&Bs at a quarter the price. On the basis of the state of the room we decided to eat in a local pub rather than in the hotel so cannot comment on quality of food. Breakfast was good but very limited in what was offered.
The quiet atmosphere and the wonderful views
Breakfast was excellent and the cleanliness of the hotel was very good also gardens were superb The room was smaller than I expected and the bed was not particularly comfortable
Friendly staff and excellent food, delightful surroundings Room was a little small considering the price. Since the price we paid was an offer price, it was acceptable (because it was certainly clean and comfortable) but I would not have wanted to pay the full normal price.
Breakfast was great, lady on reception desk very beautiful, grounds superb. All the floorboards getting to our room squeaked all the time!!
The staff were very courteous and hospitable. Beautiful location - countryside outlook yet near to major roads. Unfortunately as we only stayed for one night I can only comment on the breakfast which was both plentiful and delicious, catering for all tastes. Our bedroom was both spacious and comfortable. Would definately recommend to family and friends.
The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff.Comfort of the room The staircase
Enjoyed good breakfasts and dinners, and staff friendly & efficient
ecellent restaurant, staff very helpful
first it was my wife,s birthday and the w2eeken was superb, bonfire, fireworks, and the food was very nice, service was as you would expect of a 1st class hotel. the weather. but who really likes the weather we have had lately?
Very good country house type hotel. Quiet and very well kept gardens and grounds. Superb location.el The washbasin taps in room 17 are old and the hot one did not work too well. Both taps need updateing.
Appearance and location of hotel The room we were allocated was the darkest gloomiest hotel room I had ever stayed in.
Food and wine were excellent
very good location very uncomfortable hard mattress, noise of passing traffic. found it unacceptable to be asked if we wanted a tip to be included in our hotel bill when our card transaction was processed. twin "superior" room it certainly was not. it had a double bed, not twin beds & certainly was not "superior"
The hotel is in a pleasant riverside location with a lovely view of Ross-on-Wye. We found the staff very friendly and the breakfast, for which there was an extensive choice, was superb. We would have liked to eat in and have no doubt that the evening meals are excellent but they are quite expensive. Because we were both feeling 'under the weather' with very heavy colds we chose not to eat there.
Excellent Food. The Hotel has obviously seen better days and is in a state of decline. Advertises 4 Poster Beds but there were no Canopies, not quite the real thing
We arrived too late to really benefit but I would certainly go again. We arrived at 11.00 p.m. I was travelling with a business colleague and we would have valued a drink or coffee in a public room before going to bed but everything was closed - perhaps an insulated coffee pot and tray could have been left in the breakfast room for us .
Excellent food and wines
The food and the location Response from receptionist when I requested the room I had booked, as opposed to the room I had been given; She pointed out I had not paid very much! I did however get another room. The lack of privacy in the bathroom - I do think that bathroom windows should be covered with something, a gap of 4/5 inches below a venetian blind is not appropriate on clear glass, particularly when the room in question is at the front of the hotel on the main road.
The new receptionist was welcoming. The view from bedroom windows of Wilton Castle and River Wye were lovely. The pretty town centre of Ross on Wye was within walking distance. Several small details contributed to an air of lack of care for something that was advertised as 4 star with a "superior" bedroom. A little disappointing.
Little "extras" from the chef! They gave us fruit, biscuits, milk etc after we had gone out to fetch our own! If they had told us to expect it we would have been fully satisfied.
The room was nice and the location good - restaurant excellent but a bit pricey There was an awful lot of traffic noise
As walkers we had everything we needed including food & drink in a lovely location, the distance to our walks was fairly close and the taxi transfer was easy and arranged by reception staff who also gave advice on our walks, it would be an ideal location for large groups to use as a base. I could not use the electric kettle in the room as there were no sockets in easy reach
Hotel staff very helpful, location in the Forest of Dean The "restaurant" facilities within the golf club really let it down and not what we expected from a country hotel - no table clothes! effectively eating in the golf club bar. Food ok but not special. It needed to be in the main hotel
Efficient & friendly staff Getting to the restaurant involves going outside to another building
Meals were good value Service at breakfast on final day was poor, it took nearly forty minutes to get breakfast. but to be fair to them they were fully booked.
the residents bar 10pm - 6am the beds were poor, the part of the hotel we stayed in was old and worn.
When I went to bed about 11.30 pm I found that my bed, in a twin, had a mattress that had springs broken and as a result had a very poor night's sleep. I reported the matter at Reception next morning and was assured that it would be changed without delay. In other respects the hotel was fine but this important aspect spoiled my stay.
Convenient for my work location in this instance with convenient on-line booking. Good, freshly made breakfast. No complaints
The room was excellent and the golf course was presented well. We were rather disappointed with the standard of food
Friendly staff at reception. Good view out onto the bowling green. Nice walk round the golf course. Very easy access to the Wye Valley and Symonds Yat beauty spots. Easy to hear noise from other rooms.
Staff very friendly, food in restaurant excellent and good value. nothing, very happy with our stay
In need of update
The Hotel has a wonderful atmosphere - old but comfortable - good food and friendly welcoming bar area.
What a great hotel! The room was really big and the staff were excellent-very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the facilities were first class, particularly considering that the price was very reasonable. Initially we booked into this hotel because we were attending a wedding in the area and just needed a bed, and we were a bit fed up that we didn't give ourselves more time to appreciate the accommodation. It would have been nice to spend the evening there, relaxing in the bar and enjoying the place. We have already decided to return to explore the area again and to stay at this hotel.
Excellent food and very helpful staff
Good all round service
Its central location in the town of Ross on Wye
It was central to the town and comfortable The bar was far too "smokey" little or no ventilation Bedding & towels were left outside our door and was a safety hazzard The shower was not efficient enough and the shower hook was too far up the wall and you could not control the direction of it due to it being loose.
friendly and great value, convenient location
warm friendly welcome. traditional country hotel with public bar attached. Situated in the main street of Ross on Wye. Being traditional, creaky floorboards are characteristic of the hotel together with steep winding staircases leading to the bedrooms. Web site clearly states no disabled access.
