About MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises is an Italian company which, since its inauguration, has become one of the most popular cruise lines in Europe. It has 14 ships and is renowned for its busy nightlife and family-friendly offers. Most of the MSC cruise routes are throughout the Mediterranean, ranging from 1 or 2 night mini cruises upward to a 116 night world cruise.

Budget-friendly Mediterranean options are common, and itineraries often include popular destinations like Valencia, Spain, Marseille, France and plenty of ports in MSC's Italian homeland. However, the company has expanded to include routes that travel very far from Europe. Longer itineraries include trips to South America, the Middle East, East Asia and the Caribbean.

MSC shore excursions include relaxed walking city tours as well as cultural experiences. For example, passengers can experience a flamenco show in Cadiz, Spain, or a visit to the Neolithic temples in Malta. MSC also offers targeted Family Tours, accompanied by Junior Club staff to keep kids entertained. If parents want to enjoy the sights of the destination in peace, complimentary childcare is also available onboard while adults go exploring.

Indeed, MSC has a lot to offer families. Kids under 17 can travel for free when sharing a cabin with two adults. The older MSC ships (Opera, Sinfonia, Armonia, and Lirica, all built between 2001 and 2004) aren't quite as up-to-date and are more popular with a more mature crowd. However, the newer, bigger ships, including the 2,067-cabin Seaside built in 2017, are enormous, beautiful and contain all the amenities that passengers could wish for.

MSC Cruises attracts a mixture of different nationalities, so onboard entertainment is carefully chosen to avoid translation issues. Live music is frequently performed, and acrobatics and dance shows are also popular. On the Meraviglia, an exclusive Cirque du Soleil performance can be enjoyed. Only the MSC Divina, which is based in Miami, Florida, has English as an official onboard language. MSC's Mediterranean cruises, in particular, have a mostly European clientele.

Onboard, there is a European atmosphere when it comes to entertainment. As is common on many European cruises, a team of friendly entertainers can be found, leading travelers in fun games, dance lessons, hula hoop competitions, karaoke sessions and bingo. There is always plenty going on in the poolside area, and adults who want to escape from the hustle and bustle can visit the casino or relaxing spa.

Kids can enjoy pajama parties, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts and themed dress-up days. The larger, newer ships have more to offer youngsters, with dedicated play areas, water slides and wading pools. Travelers who book MSC for a summer cruise will find plenty of families onboard.

The largest MSC ships, the Preziosa, Splendida, Fantasia, and Divina, have an exclusive Yacht Club section for passengers staying in suites. This area, which has full butler service and private parties, includes a private bar and solarium, two hot tubs, and a glass-roofed pool. Some suites have private whirlpool tubs, and all have bathtubs, large closets and, in the case of Wellness Grand Suites, gym equipment that enables passengers to work out in comfort and privacy.

However, MSC targets a wide audience, and there are plenty of stateroom options for the budget-conscious traveler too. Interior studios, with single sofa beds, are designed for solo travelers and are available on Meraviglia and Bellissima. Standard inside staterooms all come equipped with air conditioning, shower, interactive TV, wifi connection, minibar and safe.

A good option for large families traveling on the Preziosa or Divina, the Super Family stateroom consists of two connecting triple staterooms, complete with two bathrooms and two balconies. The Super Family room has a fixed price, regardless of how many passengers will actually be sleeping there. For family fun and a range of exciting itineraries, MSC Cruises is a great choice.
