We really enjoyed our stay at ripe alte: beautiful place, far away, quiet, beautiful beaches, hiking. We hiked around, and went to the beach to cool down with a swim! The hotel has 3 private beach (you can take your pivate stuff and leave it at the beach). The national park was very beautiful, you can see mountain goats. If you love nature you will love this hotel! The way to the hotel was shocking, because the road was in a very bad condition. We need ca. 10 minutes from the nearest city (Capoliveri), but the view was breathtaking! We came perfectly at sunset (we saw the sun went down to the sea). There were many flies at the apartment, but we killed them all =) .. but this hotel is the only hotel in the middle of the national park , I think its normal to have living thing beside you.
It's remote feature made it perfect our get-away vacation. We enjoyed the variety of food, scenes, hospitality, convenience, etc. We stayed at one of the apartments which was more than enough space for my girlfriend and I, including a kitchen where we cooked breakfasts. We had a little terrace which overlooked a composition of sloping vineyard hills dropping down to the coast. The ocean view and Italian mainland beyond was absolutely unbeatable. The resort comes with a little market which has most of the things you'll need should you might need. The beaches were definitely comparable if not better than most of the ones we saw and visited along our island tour. Capoliveri is the closest town by which was by far, our favorite one. The resort is within an established National Park which means the only access roads are unpaved. Though in good conditions, you'll need a car to get there. We rented a car which worked out perfectly. We'd recommend the same.
Free parking. Good food, nice staff, good location on the island of Elba. Poor internet connection. You have to pay for it per hour. Most of the time we were unable to get a connection. Limited view of ocean (only from balcony)
Beautiful new, clean hotel. Huge room with view. Desk staff were friendly and efficient. We arrived at 9:25 for breakfast that was open from 8-10. We found the hallway lights off and the staff cleaning up from large group. It seemed we were not too welcome, and were seated at a used table. We were however, able to eat, but not the best atmosphere or service. We also found the location quite a way up the hillside and a little hard to find. We were glad to have a car.
good situation The haed waiter was not really friendly. The british lady in the reception was really friendly and helpful.
Lovely hotel. Great beach, pool and beach restaurant, breakfast at hotel had good selection. Area where hotel is located is quite small so not too busy or noisy. Beds on beach are allocated to room which is good. Look our for Ezio, the security gentlement at the hotel gates, very very helpful and friendly, lovely gentleman. Rooms have no soundproofing. You can hear most conversations of your neighbouring guests and if there is children next to you it can be very noisy. Try to obtain an "upper floor" room as when downstairs, all you hear is chairs being moved around ! which is a shame as I loved this Hotel
Fantastic beach location on beautyful island.Good staff.Airy & comfy rooms !
Beautiful location, excellent service and good food. A bit too expensive.
great place to relax.well run hotel.Would go again well situated no
We were upgraded and dealt with polite staff during our trip. Nothing.
the hotel is really very nice, the location is just perfec, it is easy to get to any other town within the island, dinner is highly recommended old-fashioned TV set
Pool area was really wonderful, as well as breakfast on the terrace Unfortunately, my husband was covered in Bed Bug bites after the first night. I don't feel that the hotel was dirty, just bad luck I guess
It is in a peaceful area, and close enough to Portoferraio so that you can go into town at night if you want - if you are willing to pay for a taxi or have a car. It is very well serviced by public transportation - hardly at all in fact - so that if you want to go out to eat or head out at night, you have to pay for an expensive taxi ride both ways, or rent a car or moped. The hotel itself is fairly nice, although definitely not a 4 star hotel as it is advertised. It has a nice pool and a good breakfast.
It was quiet and relaxing and Management was very helpful in assisting our travel arrangements from their hotel to Roma. Lack of air conditioning at night. The bed was very uncomfortable and we asked for it to be changed and it wasn't. This made our stay disappointing because of lack of sleep. When we arrived the check in staff didn't explain to us that we had to reserve a table each day for the evening meal, this was explained to us on the second night we were there and this made us feel uncomfortable, however they did accommodate us in the resturant.
We both liked the situation of the Hotel together with the choice of beach or good size pool. It would have been an ideal base from which to explore the island if we had more time but overall we enjoyed our stay with you. Gracie
Cleaniness and comfort of the room The beach was not a natural one and the staff were rather "off hand" at times although this did not appear true for the guests that they knew better and who were staying longer
Location, grounds and swimming pool. Only stayed on B&B basis. Receptionist (female) was rude on arrival. Air conditioning in room allocated did not work - changed room after some persistence. Room furnishings not 4 star standard.
This hotel was in no way of 4* quality The room was very basic and the hotel was too far away from the centre.
The hotel staff was the absolute best here. He worked diligently to accommodate our needs and was helpful with information and recommendations.
Beautiful, secluded hotel, clean, huge room. Wonderful desk & restaurant staff, who spoke English. Breakfast and dinner with wine included in price. Exellent value! Close to beaches. Nothing bad to report........this was our favorite hotel of our entire trip!!!!! (well....the pillow was a tad hard)
We were told all rooms had a view, which they did not. We were also told the hotel was within walking distance of a beach and you had to drive 15 min to get to one. They did not inform us that to eat in town on Saturday you have to make a reservation. Told them the day before we were taking the first ferry out but no one was there and we were locked in the hotel and nearly missed our ferry trying to find a way out. There is no AC in the rooms and you have to pay 15 euro a day for the remote to use the AC.
The room was nice and the view from the room was amazing! The location is perfect since it is just few meters from the harbour and near to the beach. The staff was very helpfull and the breakfest buffee was money's worth. Woud recommend this hotel and location to anyone who wants some peace and quiet, a real small village with an authentic athmosphere without the excessive amounts of tourists. there were no ac which can be a problem in the hottest summer months
Was the only hotel in the town so provided a place to sleep. Very, very poor value for money - uncomfortable spring beds, extremely noisy room, no air conditioning, charged for coffee at breakfast! All at a 3 star price. There are also much nicer towns than Rio Marina in Elba.
Good location in front of the pier. Good panorama from the balcony! The room was always clean! The only thing is that Rio Marina is a little bit far from the most animated towns, like Capoliveri, Porto Azzurro etc...
The location is great, 2 mins walk from the harbour, in front of the sea and with lots of coffee bars for a delicious breakfast in the morning. There was an hair in my bed when I first arrived. When cleaning, the staff should pay more attention to this details.
The people and atmosphere, the location , the sunshine, the sea. Breakfast food was boring. Coffee not good considering it was Italy. The price was very high considering the quality of the above and the facilities.
The location of the hotel is good – near the sea, center and the small port. It is calm and nice. The staff did not inform us, that every day of using air conditioner costs 15 Eur. So in the end we were a little bit shocked. It's not a problem to pay, but I think that the client should be informed what are the additional costs.
The hotel was great a 5 minute walk from the ferry and 5 minutes to the stony beach which was just great. Breakfast was grand most staff were helpful. Elba is wonderful I fell in love with it. Down side no air conditioning in the rooms very very hot not able to sleep! No air con not good
Nice place with very helpful staff, even English was not a problem. Hotel is kind of cute ancient style. The breakfast was nice, good value for money. We had windows to the street - loud in the evening which is in Italy normal, there was a bar under the windows. But when the shutter were closed, almost nothing was heard. There was also a small problem with the shower drain.
We don't think that this room was e superior room, as we didn't had a balcony as other rooms. Our room were overlooking the street and each time the bus passed through, our windows were trembling. Very loud room. Breakfast poor - no fruits, no eggs, no ham. Just one sort of bread (white) and 2 different cakes and brioche.
Very nice exterior/ outside area. Good location; just a stone's throw from the harbour and swimming area. Good facilities nearby (supermarket, little shops, restaurants). Overall very nice and convenient. There are only very few parking spots at the hotel. However, there are free-of-charge parking spots a few mins walk away. The price increase at weekends (50€ extra per night for a double room) seemed rather steep. The room we had was nothing like the pictures on the website; it was probably not refurbished yet. Nevertheless, all was still very nice.
Location, value for money and breakfast The bathroom was small but the biggest problem was it was rather smelly and musty as it really needed an exractor fan in it, particularly in a hot climate.
Very pleasant, easy access to the beach and front.quiet. It was quiet basic and suprised it had no lift.not sure how invalids or the elderly would get on but generally quiet good.
Good toilet No lift and pour brekfast
This was the best hotel I stayed at for my eniter 10 trip in Italy. The staff was very accomidating. I was able to leave my luggage there the final day and even had a nice bathroom to use after checkout for me to change in. The hotel is across the street from the bus stop which run every hour. It is very close to the beach in Marciana marina. Before booking this hotel I had doubts about staying in this town, but I absolutely loved it.
Short distance to sea, like most hotels on Elba. They tried to give us a tiny room without working air conditioning, only cold water and terrible beds. Most probably because they were overbooked - the next day another couple were complaining loudly in the reception. Many other rooms must have had problem with the AC - there were many people complaining. Once we changed room, all this was sorted. The food in the restaurant tasted really boring. Breakfast was ok.
Close to beach and harbour + good restaurants.Good pool adjacent to room. Family room by the pool is very spacious (although we didnt ask for it! - see below) small outside area with table and chairs adjacent to sizeable pool. Requested a standard room and a superior room for 4 people in total. We were given a standard room and a family room. The family room was very large and had sufficient beds to sleep 6! Although it had aircon it didnt have a window and did not have the feel of a suprior room.Overall the staff dealt with our issues very well and we had little to complain about by the time we left.
The hotel was conveniently located within walking distance of a beach, waterfront, boat rental, restaurants, grocery store, bank/ATM. The hotel was reasonably clean and attractive, a "classic" hotel. The staff was friendly and at least one of them spoke serviceable English (my Italian is barely adequate). When I made the reservation I was under the impression that I was booking a room with air conditioning. When we arrived we were given a room with a western exposure that was uncomfortably warm in the evening - and no air conditioning! When we asked we were told that no room with ac was available till the following night.
Fantastic hotel, clean, charming, wonderful staff who did their best to speak english to help us get what we needed. So close to everything in the town, an absolute yes to this hotel! A small thing....the pool wasnt heated....although it was August, the pool was very cold.
The view was lovely Parking is inconvenient -- up the hillside. Food choices were too limited -- one restaurant and dinner was only a 5 course meal at a prix fixe -- if you are not ravenous, you would have to overpay, or find another restaurant (which we did). Personnel was inflexible. Also did not like tour buses.
The scenery was gorgeous The pools were too cold to use. heat them!! And the price was a bit spendy. You are basically paying for the view. The dinner was alot of money for what you got.
Very good localisation, nice sea view bad mattress too hard and not so comfortable
The Staff where extremely friendly and gave great recommendations on places to eat and visit. The private beach/decking is great with a good beach side restaurant. A really nice place to relax and unwind.
its in a very beautiful place very quite , romantic and clean . the rooms are very nice airconditioner working , tv LCD but mostly of the channels are payperview . food and breakfast good a bit expensive . some waiters need to learn how to talk to costumers because its an expensive place and they do not treat you well for what you pay . there who i forgot the name he seems to be the owner of the hotel very rude with a fake smile , the only reason they work there is because there are costumers who can afford the price to be there, so they need to respect more the costumer , some come to you speaking an English they do not ask if we speak Italian , a bit weird for me .
Restaurant staff were excellent. Location was perfect. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. They were like sleeping on a brick floor. I like a firm mattress but this was way beyond firm.
We stayed 4 nights at the hotel on a half board basis and found it to be a very good 4 star standard. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner was excellent with wines at reasonable prices and a wide choice of food. The leasure facilities were excellent - both the beach and the pool areas. Hotel location not great - not easy to walk to other places - and the room & balcony were both smallish although it was described as a junior suite with sea view.
The hotel was good - it doesn't have a great deal of individual character but we had a junior suite with an absolutely stunning view over the water. The room was huge, extremely clean and perfectly comfortable, service was efficient and friendly and the hotel beach and swimming platform was lovely. The meal times are quite early, so although we paid for half-board we didn't eat dinner at the hotel. I think this hotel is great for a couple who are looking for a lovely quiet escape, or for a family... in our case we would have liked a little more choice in terms of nearby restaurants and bars. Highly recommend having your own transport if you stay here.
Great view from room (if you have sea facing room), room was very clean & a good size (even with a baby cot added). Two nice swimming pools & some childrens play equipment for small kids. Beach area is nice (even though not much sand area) but plenty of decking and sun chairs & small bar area. Helpful, friendly staff & there's a nice village nearby with market/small village style shops & plenty of places to eat. Food at hotel was average but we were there the last week of the season so I think they were winding down?. We're glad we hired a car as nothing is really within walking distance (though I think this is the case wherever you stay on Elba). Overall - great stay!
Couldn't really tell if Americans were generally welcome here, but had a wonderful time nonetheless. I knew nothing about the island of Elba, but my girlfriend and I were visiting Italy for the first time and wanting a break from the city and discovered Elba during our research. Overall, the experience of being there was pretty majestic. I liked the private beach access, the pool, cleanliness, and the views around it. We would return, if welcome. The receptionist at the front desk was not all that welcoming.
The weather was great and the hotel pool is lovely. The breakfast included was satisfactory. The restaurant is on site and we had a nice dinner buffet. The rooms were very small. The hotel is actually about two blocks from the beach and there is a charge to use the beach umbrellas and chairs. Towels are charged extra for the pool and the beach. The resort also charges an exhorbitant price for wireless connection and there is no available computer.
Very comfortable room, well presented, all the staff were very helpful and pleasant
pool, breakfast, location, staff no hair dryer, no internet
Staff were friendly. Pool was good. Hotel was clean. Close to the beach. The breakfast was ok however the coffee was poor.
The hotel is in a wonderful position, close to beauitful beaches and surrounded by pines, olive groves, corn fields and a vineyard. It is quiet, relaxing and comfort. A complimentary bottle of wine was provided on arrival. The staff were friendly. The buffet breakfast had a good variety of foods, it was rather hectic due to the amount of people.
professional front desk staffand pool too many loud families/thin walls and the dining room was had too much lighting for dinner, no ambiance what so ever!
i often need an iron, because have some clothes which prefer to iron myself
Pool area. Evening singer Dining room impersonal, with no atmosphere for evening dining
Good location for travelling to other parts of Elba Too thin walls between rooms one can hear too much.
The location of the hotel For to be a four stars hotel more service ,maintenance , confort is required
Great location and comfortable rooms with a very low price.
in the center, and nearby the sea the room next to the road is very noisy because there is a restaurant in front of the hotel and always very busy, so nosiy!
Very convenient location. Rooms very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. I liked the little garden behind the hotel. Possibility to use the facilities of the La Primula hotel but with a lower room price. The parking facility is a bit far (500 meters). Not a big deal anyway.
The room was very clean. The gardens and location was beautiful.
One of the poorest price / quality ratios ever. Breakfast was one star quality, Cannot really recommend to anyone. We stayed in three other hotels in Elba and all of them were much better than this one. They only want to take your money away. Service was terrible.
Friendly staff, very clean and quite spacious room, big and comfortable shower cabin (big enough for two :) ), cosy athmosphere, silence. Would be great for a family vacation, also with children (has a playground for children), nice pool. Breakfast was very good and had a nice variety. The double bed was rock solid but fortunately we were staying in a room with two extra individual beds, which were much softer, so we ended by sleeping separately :)
We had a great time at the Hotel. The location was great, just a 5 min walk from beach. Surroundings were also great, green all around... very relaxing and quiet! Great breakfast too!!
The hotel was clean, comfortable and covered the needs of its mainly family clients. The food was simple and good. The staff often appeared hurried and somewhat flustered. Reception appeared under-staffed, coping with paper-work, arrivals and departures, queries and a bar. Often there was only one person, sometimes two in the area. I personally was invited into the reception area to use their computer to find my own train times and connections! It was something I have not experienced before. This is not a criticism however, rather purely an observation.
The hotel is hidden aside of the town, amond green trees with a beautiful smell (pine-trees, cypresses, eucalyptus); silence outside; a sandy beach 10 min walk; several restaurants, some shops, bus stop in 10-30 min walk distance; a regular and cheap bus service to get some other island places and beaches. 1) There are mostly big noisy Italian families with children, spiking loudly in the restaurant.2) Baby crying in the restaurant. 3) Nobody (parents or staff) stopped children, playing in the hotel corridors at midnight. 4) Heavy room doors close loudly, corridors have no carpet to mute steps. 5) No fridge in rooms. 6) Some problems with a water supply to splash a toilet. 7) The pool is too small for adults.
The decor was very maritime...very nice sitting room for guests as well as a common TV room. The desk women were very personable and helpful. We arrived late and had our dinner and wine in the hotel. Upon checking out, the staff told us it was compliments of the hotel. That was very generous of them. The quick walk to the beach was the best!!!! Good beach restaurants and easy to walk back to hotel! Just the noise of the toilets in the nighttime. We realized that they were loud and we did not flush in the nighttime but others were not so considerate.
garden and very quite area. Close to beach (5 min walk only) First room we got was small and had a very tiny balcony. Staff was willing to change us to another room ,garden view and huge balcony. Please profide chairs on the balcony!
nice staff, room was very nice, we had a small balkony, ask for rooms on upper floors, they offer real italian coffee during breakfast - just ask the waitress, close to the beach, good restaurant at the beach (Sapore di Mare - very very nice staff and good food!) small double bed, thin walls
Walking distance to the beach. Calm. Good food. Definately a family hotel. Lots of children and games for them.Would return off season.
A really good hotel. The courtesy of staff and position of the hotel (as the position of Marciana Marina for Elba) are perfect for anyone that want to use this as a base for travelling on all the isle, as it is for anyone that prefer to stay in the nearest beach. No one.
The breakfasts and the cleanliness No
We found this hotel has very friendly personnel. I would like to thank them for their service while we stayed there. Personnel were very accommodating and very knowledgably about the area. One thing found helpful was trip suggestions made by the staff during our stay.
Friendly staff, good location at relatively quiet street in proximitty to main beaches and promenade. Irrespective extremely hot weather, temperature in the room was comfortable even if we turned off air conditioning from time to time. Bathroom is excellent (in comparison with three other hotela we visited during our journey throigh Italy). We liked our stay inYa Club very much N/A
We liked the family atmosphere of the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and seemed to switch with ease between a number of languages. Restaurant recommendations were excellent. A very comfortable stay at a very reasonable cost.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Room nice, big and clean. Great location.
Very friendly, helpful staff, very close to the port.
The location, the breakfast and the staff Noise from the street
Very friendly staff, great breakfast room were well equipped. The location of the hotel is in a "quiet" area and only a short walk from the city. The cleaning of the rooms could be improved.
very friendly family run hotel. beautiful setting and close to the beach.
good location, friendly and English-speaking staff, good breakfast, great pool, really clean and comfy rooms.
Very nice, lovely pool and garden, 1 st room good , 2nd room over looked building site. friendly staff.
Nice room with a balcony, breakfast was ok typically Italian Staff were friendly particularly the breakfast staff. The hotel is ideally located to walk to the Marina at night for Dinner and the room was very clean and a good size The near by beach was pebble/stones and not sand but was not aware of this when I booked ..should have researched better but the pictures on the website are not of the nearby beach as it is in the marina and it is stones.
Very pleasant staff. Friendly and convenient for the town.
Bathroom quite new, working air conditionning and a quite good (italian) breakfast
Hotel Villa Ombrosa overlooks a pebble beach, with over the road, it's own area with deck chairs and sunshades.Very helpful cleaning and breakfast staff. A room without a view at the back is quieter than the front with the view. The lift goes from behind the stairs. I had to leave.
It was superb. I was driving around Tuscany with no reservations for hotel stays and they were very accommodating. The hotel was beautiful.
Friendly hotel, near centre of town, quite good food. Rooms giving on to the back garden have no balcony, no view and are somewhat dull. Try to avoid them. The hotel "beach" consists of two long concrete steps over the rocks and water, packed with deck chairs. There a re far more fun, sandy beaches elsewhere on the island.
close to the port, not noisy, not expensive I did not like food in this hotel. We had half board that was very bad decision.
The view from our seaside balcony was amazing, and the choices of foods in the dining room were simply delicious!
