8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property has been renovated to a high standard and your host Julien is very warm and welcoming. You can’t fault it for cleanliness and friendliness, my only negative would be the room needs a long mirror and air conditioning. If these don’t bother you it’s perfect.
Cons: No long mirror or air conditioning.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, helpful owners Nice pool Very peaceful location
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and welcoming family who are helpful and receptice throughout my stay. I also liked being out of the way from the main town and the chateau where the wedding I attended took place.
Cons: Unfortunately I was in a part of the property that seemed to have low wifi connection as well as poor data connectivity. I also felt the breakfast could have been a little better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting is unbelievably gorgeous — the gardens, the mountains, the views. Our room was super comfy and we had a sweet terrace, where we started each day with a big pot of hot, dark coffee, homemade yogurt, croissants, a very tasty bread and a cornucopia of homemade jams. Hosts could not be nicer or more helpful. Go! No, don’t go. I want a room to be available next time we are in the area! There is so much to see and do within an hour that you could easily spend a week and still feel that there was more to explore.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hosts, Julian and Jo-Anne were a delight: so welcoming, accommodating and attentive. We stayed in the Gite which was lovely and the dinners at night on the patio were a real pleasure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is great and the place is beautiful. The surroundings are really nice with small villages and beautiful nature. We had a great couple of nights here and will definetly come back. Thanks also for great hospitality from the Owners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location. Pool. Friendly owner. Service. Gardens. Shower.
Cons: The bed linen was a bit scratchy. It was very hot so a fan would have helped.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Their knowledge of the area is outstanding and they were ready to assist with advice.
7.0 Good
Pros: We booked this accommodation to be close to a wedding we were attending. The property has been lovingly and beautifully renovated by the owners. The gardens are exceptional and it is very peaceful. Julian is a very friendly attentative host. We only met Joanne briefly on our first day. We initially had a double room booked but moved to the gite after the first night which gave us more room.
Cons: We booked this accommodation because of the pool but sadly could not make use of it due to the time restrictions on the pool opening. ie 10-11am & 4-7pm ?? Really strange and to be honest had we been aware of this we wouldn't have booked the property. We wanted to relax around the pool for a few days before and after the wedding but left as soon as the wedding was over. When we moved to the gite we didnt make much use of the little patio area as their 2 cats came around us. Ok if you are cat lovers but not for us. It seems there have been quite a few unruly guests attending previous weddings and they immediately tarred us with the same brush and assumed we would behave the same way by warning us to be quite and suggesting we have the taxi drop us off at the bottom of their long gravel drive in the pitch dark with a steep fall at one side. I appreciate it is rural France and that there are other guests and also that it is their home, but we were also guests, paying for a service which is their business, and they shouldn't assume everyone is going to be unruly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent, it exceeded our expectations. Tranquil place with lovely garden
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Very warm welcome, knowledgeable and experienced hosts, excellent breakfast, spacious bedroom, beautiful views, large and comfortable bed.
Cons: Beautiful but creaky floorboards so not as quiet as we had hoped due to people in the corridors /stairs late evening, also cars just outside in the morning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: George and Elizabeth are great hosts and will do everything possible to make your stay the best! We were impressed by the historic old building and the breakfast spread. Upon arrival George took time to greet us with a fresh squeezed orange juice while we explained to us about the area we were in and the restaurants around. Room was sparkling clean and comfortable.

Pros: A great host in a very tastefully decorated house & also a room to stay with alot of small details. And a really great breakfast prepared with alot of care. So all what one could wish for :).

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Run by a really friendly and accommodating couple. Interesting rooms and common areas. Good value and tasty evening meal and breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arranged an overnight stop here to visit the area before travelling down to our holiday home The owners of the hotel were very friendly and extremely helpful They kindly rang a couple of local restuarants for us to check avaialbility and to then reserve a table for us. The restuarant they recommended in the next village was excellent too and the best 4 course meal I have ever eaten in France. We want to return here again in the future and explore
Cons: The only negative thing to mention is that this is rural france and there are a number of steps to negotiate to get up to the front door and also if you are say on the third floor. This was not a problem for us but just thought I would mention it in case you are less mobile
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The originality of the place and the kindness of the host, Extremely pleasant discussions at our arrival and during the breakfast with Elisabeth and Georges. Tasty breakfast!
Cons: Hard to find. Maybe for the rooms facing the street, the noise of the cars passing the street is audible to a level that can disturb.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so very friendly. It was like being welcomed home after a long journey. The location was beautiful. The views from our window were spectacular! Top floor facing the front was quite large. Could easily sleep 3 people, with a queen bed and separate sitting room which contained a trundle bed. We arrived later in the day and were not in the mood for a large meal. They recommended an adorable creperie, l’adoree Galette, in a little town called Ayet, about a 15 min. gorgeous drive up the road, that was absolutely fantastic!
Cons: We wish we had been able to see this glorious town and surrounding area on a sunny day, but even in the rain it was fantastic!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old house with very nice owners, providing lots of information on what to do & where to go. Also advise on where to go for diner on a Monday night was superb, with the reservation even made for us by the landlady. Breakfast was a true feast, with several pieces of freshly baked cakes, fruit salad and great coffee - too much! Upon departure we received a farewell gadget to remember our stay.
Cons: With the weather being quite cold it was also rather cold in the room. A electric heater was available to facilitate warmth, for me personally it may be lots warmer (but nothing in hands of the owners).

9.6 Excellent (66 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Le Grand Chalet in Aspet, you'll be 14 minutes by car from Col de Portet d'Aspet.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful house with a charming hostess. The rooms were lovely and the breakfast delicious with home made apricot jam made by Patricia, the owner. There's a good sized pool which was lovely to cool off in after a hard day's bike ride. The rooms were spotless with lovely crisp white bed linen.
Cons: Whilst it didn't bother us as were a group of friends, the rooms share a bathroom so that the people in the twin bedded room have to walk through the double bedded room to get to the bathroom, so this set up might be more suitable for families.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property has charm and character and the rooms are lovely. Our room was spotlessly clean and the shower room looked brand new, with a fabulous big shower head. The bed was big and really comfortable. We had a kettle and a good choice of tea and coffee in the room, plus a carafe of cold water. We chose a room with a balcony, it was lovely to sit outside and relax and take in the mountain view. Great breakfast which amongst other things includedsome tasty local bread and homemade yoghurt Patricia was an excellent host, she was very helpful and gave us some useful tips on the local area.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a quite unique property and obviously much loved by its owners. From the moment we arrived we felt like treasured guests and Jean-Louis was very helpful with local information. He booked us a table at a little village nearby, which served great home cooking. The room we had was massive and beautifully designed. A first time for us in a waterbed but we both slept really well. Breakfast was wonderful, all homemade or local produce. Don’t miss the DVD about the family and their horse breeding and care. A fascinating insight into how the Haras was established and moved into hospitality. We will return as one night was not enough and there is some wonderful walking to do in this beautiful area with stunning views of the mountains.
Cons: Minor point, but no plug in the sink made shaving difficult.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place deserves a flat 11 out of 10! The most charming accomodation we ever had in france, a cosy room, an enormous bathroom with bath tube and separate, modern and really big shower with 5 shower heads. Mdm Crone speaks english as fluent as french, plus at least one more language - find out for yourself which one that is. The village is a sleepy mountain village, so don't expect to find a choice of restaurants here. But 15 minutes away by car you will find a selection, or if you're lucky Mdm Crone will cook for her guests, a pleasure you shouldn't miss.
Cons: It did rain. Apart from that, everything was perfect.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We booked this as a stopover and found it charming and the hosts very accommodating. David is very passionate about the history of the property and we really enjoyed learning about it. The bed was very comfortable and our room very warm considering the time of year and bad weather. Bathroom is new and very clean with a good shower. Liked the extras such as cotton buds. We had a fabulous breakfast and Stephanie makes most of her produce which was very nice. Restaurants only a short drive away and you need a car due to the location. Wi Fi was excellent and quick. A tour of the tower was also terrific and to see the views and mountains from the top of the chateau was a surprise. Would happily recommend to other guests.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the perfect way to end our holiday. The château is beautiful, set back from a river, nestled in the countryside. The owners are superb hosts. David gave us a tour of the turret and told us about the history of the castle. Stephanie arranged for us to go horse riding nearby. Breakfast on the terrace was delightful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived David and Stephanie made us feel very special during our stay. The room was excellent, with a very comfortable bed and it was unique to have the bathroom in the turret, which was exceptionally fitted out. The breakfast was very memorable sat overlooking the views and there was a very good range of choices. We took advantage of the evening meal on two of the evenings, which was a superb dining experience and we were served with excellent food and wine. It was lovely to see the property in its splendor and a tour to the top of the turret is recommended.
Cons: Nothing - Everything was perfect.

Pros: Gorgeous hostess from Montreal. Vintage as we love in France.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Above all, Natasha's hospitality was Exceptional! She tried to help us as much as possible - suggesting things, reserving a table at the restaurant and more. The room is huge (we stayed in room #1), the breakfast is rich and very nicely served. There's a free aperetif bar which was very nice. There's a nice small restaurant nearby, a grocery store and in general, Castillon is a very nice little town
Cons: Nothing, everything was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Natasha is a lovely host. It was a real pleasure to stay at her house which is over 300 years old. Very quirky building which can only be described as lived in, quaint and historic. It has several floors with an old wooden staircase leading to the rooms on the 3rd floor!! clean, comfy rooms, shared bathroom although there is also an ensuite available too. Price was extremely cheap and the breakfast plentiful. We were touring on our motorbikes which were parked on the side street outside the house. Do not fret this is a very safe area!! Village was old and interesting. Restaurant nearby. You must stay here it is a real experience. A hidden gem!! in addition she supplied some free wine which w e drank at the back of the house!!!
Cons: nothing negative. you MUST give this accommodation a try!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hostess. Very generous. Amazing place. Would recommend this place to anyone, a unique experience.
Cons: All was good.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are lovely and Natasha was extremely helpful and informative. She gave us many suggestions of things to do in the area. She made dinner reservations for us at a local restaurant that had great food. It was also very helpful that she spoke English since our French is very limited. We enjoyed the warm welcome and hospitality.
Cons: I am not a huge fan of shared bathrooms but this is what we could find in our price range. We were fortunate that the other room that we would have shared with wasn’t booked during our stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A unique French property with bags of character owned by a lovely lady who has had an extremely interesting life. We were in room one which was spacious, light and comfortable. It also had en-suite facilities which the other two rooms didn’t. Natasha did everything she could to make our stay special including booking us a table at the only restaurant in town and providing a free bar. The breakfast was lovely with home made jams and cakes. There’s not much to do in the village but would highly recommend staying anyway.
Cons: Nothing
7.0 Good
Pros: Natasha clearly enjoys hosting visitors and does her best to accommodate. The breakfast was amazing. All of Natasha's homemade treats and the lovely decor left us completely stunned at first.
Cons: While we try to remain optimistic and wish them well, the property and Castillon itself left the heavy impression of a village clinging to the memory of a fading past grandeur.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Great house. Great host. Great breakfast. Great value steak just a few houses down the street.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stylish, comfortable, romantic getaway! The host are lovely people! The views are stunning. The handmade breakfast was delicious especial the chocolate, hazelnut orange cake :)
Cons: Only a small problem was the toilet door didn't close! and a slow internet collection for people that need it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful historic house that is decorated in a sympathetic manner with many period features, photographs and paintings. Lovely warm welcome and interest in me. Room was amazing and very restful after a hard day's motorcycling in the Pyrenees.
Cons: Rien.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was awesome! all homemade. Management is really friendly and always caring for guest comfort. You also can get good tips about what to do and go.
Cons: A fan would have been a plus or the option of having meals, besides breakfast, in the place. But again, small details, more a "nice to have" :) What we particularly disliked and has nothing to do with the management there, is that the add in booking was not accurate. According to the add, the room was 50 m2 when definitely was much smaller (we knew it was the right room because of the pics). I think, adds on booking ought to reflect the reality for what it is.
7.5 Good
Pros: The surrounding area- so serene and peaceful! The bed was also incredibly comfortable and the homemade breakfast was just lovely! It´s the perfect place to unwind and detox away!
Cons: I didn´t realize it was quite out of the way from the town so you definitely need a car or to rely on taxis. Also, the shower was disappointing- not the shower area but the water pressure! It was barely trickling in so I definitely struggled with that part.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: History everywhere- back to the 16th century in some parts. Isolated a bit but absolutely magnificent, steeped in history. A little out of town but tremendous for relaxation, great swimming pool.
Cons: Nothing to report

5.8 Okay
Pros: Friendly staff, nice gym, nice view from the room, a bottle of water for free, small fridge, coffee and tea in the room for free.
Cons: Nice house in not nice location. Not worth to visit. The nearest small town (5km) is awful with a huge smelly fabric and horrible restaurants. The accommodation was OK - the room as well as the bathroom were big, but old fashioned and cheap decorated. The bathroom was awful and old. Some renovation and repairs are necessary.
