Massive Bed, brilliant breakfast (especially the egg chef!), well priced parking (for Brighton) Not enough power sockets in the room and the shower dripped when it was turned off.
The hotel is very clean and of an excellent standard. It is well situated for Ipswich and the surrounding area. I stayed there for one night as I was attending a training course nearby. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone for a similar purpose. The car park is very small but other parking is available about a three minute walk away
A nice hotel run by friendly and helpful staff, and in walking distance to the main shopping area. The pillows are very uncomfortable. The bed was fine.
We found rooms very comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful
Clean and comfortable Car park was tiny and had a 1/2 mile walk to/from the overflow carpark also breakfast was not included :-(
The whole experience was brilliant wasn't sure what to expect but succeeded these expectations
The room was set up as single though it was booked as single i.e. only one chair, had to look for extra towels etc. Breakfast was disproportionally expensive.
Staff friendly , approachable, discreet. None
Clean, bright, modern hotel and rooms with friendly staff. Car parking. Not enough customer parking on site and you can only park off site from 5.30pm till 9.30am.
Restaurant did not open until 7am for breakfast.
No hassle Wedding guests seemed more important than other guests. £12 for breakfast is just too epensive. Car parking arrangement was broken on first day.
Very comfortable bed. The breakfast chef was very attentive - the poached eggs were perfect! Shortage of car parking space on site. Pay & display parking available over the road. Beware traffic wardens are very vigilant(especially from 8am)
The rooms are very comfortable, but noisy due to outside traffic noise. The cooked part of the breakfast was dry and overcooked thus wasn't the money!
the breakfast is excellent....
I have stayed at this hotel before and found the staff on both occasions to be very polite and helpful. I cannot think of anything I didn't like.
The location so close to the City centre of Ipswich. Just 10 min. walk. There was no free WiFi in the room.
The lobby and bar area are newly furnished. The hotel was empty so we were always served immediately. We upgraded the room but it was still very basic and in need of a lick of paint. Decent shower though.
The staff were very friendly, although English language proved slightly difficult. On the Front Desk Notice Board it stated: Breakfast £12 but did not state per person or per Room? Whereas the other prices were per Room
the bar closed too early.
The inprovements in the rooms since I last stayed in a Novotel
Rooms were classically designed, very comfortable Had to keep windows closed due to traffic noise
the helpfulness of the staff n/a
Rooms good quality Quality of hot breakfast poor TV reception
I enjoyed my stay because the rooms were clean, comfortable and sufficient for our overnight stay. I was asked to if I wanted to order a newspaper for Sunday morning and it never arrived. No apology from staff and no reason for it not appearing. We were being picked up at 12 so decided after checkout to have a coffee in the lounge. Found staff member very flippant and unhelpful. No change available in the till.
We have 3 kids and the staff made sure we had interconnecting rooms, many thanks to them. The hotel needs an overhaul, it is very ugly from the outside and the furniture and fittings are getting quite tired now. Also noise from the nearby road is quite loud.
The special rate if a child is occupying a room on their own - half the normal rate, so our 14 year old son had independence at a reduced cost !! We've never found a hotel which does this before, so well done to Paten Hotels. The bar service was good value for money, and an excellent choice of food. Considering the room rates, the accommodation was very plush, and a really enjoyable experience.
Excellent bar food and buffet breakfast. Slightly noisy being situated right by A12, but double glazing does cut out most of the traffic noise
the experience the tv did not work and a request to have it looked at was to no avail
Excellent food! The whole, very short stay. was excellemt value.
Such great value for money! Really nice and comfortable hotel with a lovely pool area. The village of Marks Tey is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but I suppose that adds to the charm.
Clean and well presented, no excessive fuss but just good value Nothing
The country house location. N/A
Very helpfull staff, the room was a standard size and good for the rate and the meals were very good. the general decor of the hotel appeared well maintained and clean The TV was a bit small to watch comfortably room the bed
The staff is very helpful the rooms are very dated and beds very small and not comfortable
Conveniently located with respect to Essex University bath shower facilities just adequate; all charm destroyed; electric fireplace etc.; private anniversary celebrations left hardly any parking place and the parking is big....
Other than B&B, I did not use any facility. But good secure parking facility adjacent to the hotel was welcome.
Beautiful surroundings. Peaceful. Tv could be labelled to say 'master switch by bed'. Was not obvious to start with. Final details of how to arrive (from London)by car could be improved and Borough Road is also 'Entrance to UoEssex.
Location The barking dog in the room next door, if I had stayed more than one night this would have been a problem. The lady in the next room with the pooch was somewhat selfish. Perhaps the hotel could have advised of the local dog fanciers convention (true not sarcasm) before putting us in the room they did...
Quiet and comfortable. No hassle. Excellent position for visit to University, Colchester and Wivenhoe.
Staff were polite and friendly. Paint flaking off the walls in the dining room. Bathroom badly needs work ---- rust behind taps. The bed was only 4ft 6ins wide and my wife and I are used to a larger size. When one is paying £90 per night you would expect to be nearly as comfortable as you are at home with at least a 5ft bed. Also there was only one armchair ?
very polite helpful staff nothing
This was our second stay in your beautiful hotel. As a birthday surprise for my husband two years running he was ecstatic to discover of our return. The room and view was beautiful, staff faultless with polite efficiency but also very friendly. I did speak to the lovely young man who was present at our arrival and then appeared in the restaurant about how fantastic our stay had been and thanked him. I also explained how important the stay had been, partly because I wanted it to go well for my husband's birthday but also due to the sad fact that in the last 18 months I have lost both my parents and my younger brother. Experiences like this act as a real tonic. Thank you so much! Could have done with more milk sachets.
Very friendly staff
Position and direction of bedroom. No separate bar which encourages you to leave the hotel for this facility. Noisy chambermaid in the morning. Had television on/music
Very pleasent and friendly staff , very comfortable and relaxed feel to this hotel.Stayed at many but had to take time to fill review and recommendt his one.Fantastic marina setting.Would stay again.
The deco was fantastic, really gave you the wow factor when you came in from the street. I thought that replenishing your coffee tray during your stay was a very personal touch. I loved it all
Suffolk Grill for breakfast, powerful hot shower, comfortable bed and nice bedlinen, nice big soft towels, cleanliness, Staff attitude, spaciousness of room and bathroom, ambience of hotel in a sympathetic conversion. Lift was out of order and we were on 3rd floor, washbasin tap that is too clever to be functional (you have had to publish instructions on how to use it etched on the mirror for heaven's sake) and very, very irritating especially when you have hair gel on your hands and you're trying to turn it on to wash them...fresh towels on the 2nd day that shed fluff like i don't know what.
The location A dog in room nearby barking during the night..............
Staff extremely helpful. Beautiful room. Fantastic location. Left phone charge behind which 'disappeared'. This is the only negative and bascially our fault....
Very friendly and efficient staff , fab location and food. Another very enjoyable stay at the Salthouse - hope we can stay for longer next time.
Breakfast buffet was very good Nothing
Secure parking, good service. Extremely expensive bar and poor presentation of drinks
Good position and ease for getting into Ipswich. We enjoyed having the free use of swimming pool. Evening meal was mediocre and over priced. Drinks from the bar were extremely expensive
Poor check in, kept waiting. Long walk to room. No lift. Evening meal returned as under cooked.
Very clean, jenny on reception is top class and runs a good front desk.
I think that the hotel could do with being refurbished. The Evening meal was very poor for the price.
The reception staff were particularly helpful and friendly. They made us feel very welcome. Comfortable room and quiet. Good gym. No lift for reaching first floor with heavy suitcases
We enjoyed the spa, helpful staff easy access to road system No lift in the hotel
The room was comfortable, very clean and the daily servicing was excellent. Good breakfasts, and, we enjoyed the one dinner we had during our stay. It was well presented and reasonable value for money. All the staff were very friendly, helpful, efficient. Even the taxi firm used by the hotel had drivers with the same cheerful disposition - and nice clean cars as well. Not an ideal location in relation to the Town Centre if one did not have a car. But, we did not mind getting a taxi as the drivers were so good.
The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The swimming pool was much appreciated with the jacuzzi and steam room. Breakfast was excellent - a very wide choice. We did not appreciate having to carry our bags up stairs and down very long corridors. £15 to use the internet was too expensive just to check e-mails.
Very welcoming and relaxing stay. Beautiful warm pool and lovely gardens. Superb food and pleasant and helpful staff.
The relaxed atmosphere
The hotel's history, breakfast was good and varied. The bedroom was comfortable and clean. Very helpful breakfast staff.
Pleasant and friendly atmosphere, staff very helpfull, surrounding countryside beautiful. & Woodbridge has a very friendly feeling very nice place to enjoy a weekend. The website discribtion of the room was not the same as the actual room supplied a little misleading I would advise others to telephone and check first.
Spacious dinning room and bedroom.Enjoyed the pool, nice size.Breakfasts were excellent, good food and quick service.Friendly pleasant staff. Thought the bathroom looked a bit tired!! Could do with updating and redecorating.
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Excellent facilities. Leisure centre well equipped with a delightful absence of screaming children!! Staff friendly and efficient. Room clean and well presented. I got a great last minute deal- so good value. I booked a superior room, which promised either a four-poster bed/ balcony/ extra special view. I expected to be in the hotel. I was given a self catering "dairy cottage",the view was of the court yard and accross from the leisure centre kitchen!(So no view, no balcony, no four poster.)It was very spacious and clean but not what I booked! It was my first wedding anniversary. I booked the superior room based on the promise of what I would get. I didn't get that. Because it was a surprise for my husband, I didn't want to spoil things by making a fuss.
Staff, particularly in restaurant, were high calibre. Room was spotless. Setting superb. Only small fault was that menu was the same both days, but food quality excellent
Cuisine was of a high standard. Furnishings were in good taste and quality Check out a little chaotic
Charming building with lovely grounds and a friendly welcome. None!
very relaxing atmosphere, excellant food and very attentive staff
Atmosphere created by a 15th/16th Century inn - not too sophisticated, but comfortable. Menu was limited oin second night by "off" dishes.
Comfortable room, spotlessly clean. Nice bar/restaurant room. Stair carpet was filthy - and seems to have been like that for a while. Breakfast was disappointing, in particular the attitude of the lady cooking / serving. We felt we were intruding on her day.
Excellent hotel in fine location very enjoyable weekend. At good value.
All staff and food where very good and very friendly we had a very nice stay
Staff very helpful. Room was very clean and good value for price paid Outside area could have been cleaned and more could be done with the bar and outside areas to compete with the Crown accross the road !!!
Very friendly staff, good food, excellent value for money
Lovely hotel in nice location, staff were very helpful at all times, food good We were in a lovely room but there was a constant humming noise coming from behind the wall next to the bathroom (sounded like a pump of some sort!)This went on through the night which was very annoying. Also on last morning my pot of butter actually smelled of garlic! Obviously it had garlic in the night before but thought they should have checked this as it totally put me off my toast!
Excellent welcome by all. Food, room and atmosphere very friendly and relaxing. We knew the area but would not eat anywhere else after first night in the restraurant. Had to wait for the Toad in the Hole, but well worth the wait. Should be a 5 Star rated country hotel. Used to be in the tourist business in Devon. Excellent standards. Only one comment. The water pressure in the shower. Experienced this in my own holiday park in Devon. Need to have a water pump installed to equal out the pressure.
we were made very welcome right from start..all the staff were very friendly, and happy.they gave us info on places to go nearby.. nothing that we did not like..
The hotel is very nice, and also Jackie and her sister let you fill immediately like at home. This is the right place were stay after a long day of work...
Excelent breakfast, the aditional door between the bedroom and bathroom creating a lobby gave a more private atmosphere to the room. Certainly a step up from the usual bland chain hotels. Blankets not quilts.
Comfortable hotel in the right place The corridor and my room were very warm, perhaps lacking suitable ventilation
Excellent room, very comfortable bed, good breakfast, good price, friendly service Considering the price, none aprt from the fact that there weren't any newspapers in the morn ing
A very comfortable hotel. Location not very good.
A very comfortable overnight stay, and we would be pleased to come again.
Very Friendly staff, comfortable accomodation On arrival Toilet handn't been flushed, an oversight maybe but a bit off putting. Otherwise nothing too much to complain about.
Everyone was really friendly and the room was absolutely spotless.
Very friendly staff
a warm welcome, friendly helpful staff, very clean rooms ,felt very homely, would recomend it to anyone and we will use it again , nothing
The food was excellent and good value. Staff were excellent. Room was clean and comfortable.
We werw welcomed and service was attentive. The lack of space in the shower room.
Easy going informal atmosphere Small shower enclosure
Location and hotel facilities (spa) Restaurant closed earlier than we'd have liked (9pm), but room service was excellent and the food was very good.
Excellent location 10 mins off the a12 in pleasant rural location. Good facilities, good sized well equipped rooms, friendly staff Restaurant a bit pricy but lounge bar meals reasonably priced and good quality.
the staff were very helpful the room was very clean and tidy comfortable a very worthwhile stay for the price I thought the room would include breakfast as this is a must as a feature in the current climate and for he price...on the basis of this we decided to eat away from the hotel for meals as this offered the best value for money
Value for money accommodation Food - roomservice meal was expensive and not the highest quality
A fine hotel in stunning surrounings with 2 golf courses attached. All the staff were very friendly and made you feel at home immediately. No complaints
It had a nice bathroom Very basic room the travel inn offers more comfort for less money
Roomy, clean, small details (quality of beds sheets etc) but above all, the marvellous staff team. Made my long business stay a real pleasure. Food good in restaurant too. Very slow room heaters, if you forget to inform the staff and get your room 'pre warmed' you may have to sit in your overcoat for 10-15 minutes until it gets going, but hey, maybe it's an environmental thing! Breakfast bit uninventive, same every day.
Clean, friendly staff, good food and enjoyed the pool!!! Nothing. Shame about the weather but no one can do nothing about that !
Chef took the time to discuss my dietry needs&supplied me a lovely me. Dining rooms was good.Hotel was very busy but we were not disturbed by noise. Room outlook was over car park, not so good. Ordered papers but werre not told we had to collect from reception. Spa had products on show however when I wanted to purchase something I was told that as yet they did not have any to sell. For me mattress was a bit 'tired' fortunately had taken a travel memory foam mattress. Would recomend both the hotel and your services and hope to arrange astay via yourselves next year
Made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Wonderful setting. Just lack of toiletaries in bathroom but I did have an economy room. And would have been nice to have rack of toast brought from the kitchen at breakfast instead of having to queue for the single slow toaster (with army of hungary golfers in front of me!)
It was snowing when we arrived but the hotel was lovely and warm and remained so throughout the weekend. The staff were lovely and the food excellent. We had been upgraded to a suite with sea view from an ordinary room with sea view. It didn't last long enough!
Service and food were superb. No
We last visited the before the re-furbishment, we were very impressed with the changes, our room was spotless, very warm and comfortable, lovely bathroom, good tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent, as were the staff in all areas, the gentleman who greeted us in reception deserves a special mention re parking of our car. as mentioned, car parking can be a problem as the public car park 50 mtrs from the hotel does not allow overnight parking. The hotel car park is very small there are open garaging spaces belonging to the hotel next door but are quite difficult to access.
Very relaxing wiyh good food. Very poor shower in bathroom (no pressure). No lighting over bathroom mirror in bathroom for shaving/make up etc.
Constant sound of waves breaking and sight of the ever-changing sea.
The view. The room service.
It was perfect totally exceeded my expectations!!!
Very friendly and helpful staff, good food and super location - just feet from the sea. Comfortable restaurant and lounge areas. And they take dogs! There was nothing to dislike at all but the parking at the hotel itself is a bit tricky.
The view from restaurant was lovely and the food first class. If you arrived by car difficulty in finding parking places!
loud music during the weekends out of pubs and club
Staff were polite and the hotel was clean and well looked after Parking was problematic
The setting of a really historic building in the centre of a historic town the TV didn't offer all the channels advertised; the room could have been cleaner & general decor of the hotel
the breakfast was well cooked and plentyful room was cold not enough bedding
Being in the centre of town and comfortable Yes, we did not get given a parking token for the hotel car park and as a result we got a parking ticket
I have stayed at the George many times but because of the lack of a lift I shall be unable to do so in the future. They kindly gave me an upgrade to a suite on the 3 floor which was in accessible for me because of the steep stairs. Luckily I was able to exchange rooms with the friend who was with me, The receptionist explained (in a very friendly way) that because the building was listed they could not make too many alterations Room 205 was at the back of the Hotel overlooking the service quarters and deliveries made early in the morning proved a nuisance but once again the cost of fitting double glazing in the correct listed building style was prohibitve for the Swallow chain of Hotels - the George apologised
The position is very good actually. The room was quite big and with few good services. No welcome at the hotel. No Good Morning/Afternoon, Welcome, How are you...Very bad impression about people working there. No farewell/Thank you/Bye Bye...Nothing at all. The reception staff was very bad looking, dirty and unfriendly. No knowledge about the town and the attractions around (they are not too many so we expected much more help from the reception/concierge). .....Security in the night was really poor. the night concierge opened the door to us without asking nothing about our identity when we asked the room key...we could get any room key easily....Quite scaring!!!
very old world hotel in the center of the town with good parking not obvious how to get to car park
Close to Town Centre Barman, refused to serve us drinks it was 11pm admittedly but we had just arrived. He then got told he had to serve residents and he huffed puffed and cursed. He also told us the Hotel did not sell cigarette's . Which they did!!! Cigarette machine near the ground floor toilets.
Location is excellent in Colchester Cold room, bedspread with holes in it and a sheet as bedding - no duvet in sight! So a bad night's sleep
