Cozy, clean & fully equipped with mini kitchen. Well worth the money. Good location, close to different villages in the area. Better if they have a shower place rather than just the bath tub.
It was charming and very centrally located There was only one mirror in the room which was in the bathroom and the bathroom was very small
great location, large room, wonderful scenery in the courtyard buffet breakfast--not enough wait staff, over priced, small selection, no hot food
The Courtyard and pool. Hot tub was too cold. Room was chilly to start.
It's a very interesting hotel, great having the kitchenette, but otherwise quite basic. I don't know if the restaurant and hotel are closely linked, but we found the service in the restaurant quite sloppy, though the food was quite good.
atmosphere of hotel and village
This is the perfect place. We use it as our home base when are enjoying the Alsace area. It is owned by a wonderful family. They also grow their own grapes and you can taste their amazing wine. On several occasions we have stopped in to taste wine and have been given a lesson on the wines and the French people. we love this place!!
Charming hotel in lovely village, conveniently located with modern comforts, affordable, easy free parking nearby, well equipped kitchenette, helpful staff.
We enjoyed everything about our stay at this hotel. Our room was spacious, clean and decorated with exquisite antique furnishings. The swimming pool was heated. The food at the restaurant was prepared by an excellent chef. The decor of the old style building was absolutely charming as was the entire village.
It looks like a bad motel for short use only, like use for hours.
Nothing . Booked 3 days and left after 2 . Our previous booking with you for the preceding 3 days was at an excellent hotel costing little more . whole site was needing refurbishment or preferably demolition , as in desperate need of renovation . Facilities basic and unsatisfactory . My mistake for selecting on price and getting less than I find satisfactory . Does not compare favourably with similar cost hotels I have used .
clean and tidy, near colmar and autoroute
the view of the hotel was very good ya the hospitality was not good at all
It was convenient for us as we were stopping off on our journey to Italy. Breakfast was good for a continental style breakfast.
The staff were very helpfull by cheching in,it was late in the evening.
Breakfast is okay. The place is in a poor location and it is a dump. Hotel is like a rundown Motel 6. Rooms aren't comfortable. Not close to anything except McDonalds. Poor area.
Breakfast and bed comfort. Good staff Could not get a drink of any kind at 1130 at night which is unacceptable. Also the internal noise insulation between rooms either adjacent or above was totally bad. The outside of the buildings in need of repair and repainting - overall tatty appearance.
Clean; very inexpensive
Really excellent restaurant No
Good breakfast. Car parking. Made welcome. Administration good. No tea/coffee making facility. Poor shower facilities. No soap in container. English TV programme unobtainable.
The staff were helpful, if at time a bit French about letting us into the carpark. After 4 days we thought they might recognize us. Room good, although kitchenette utensils coulees do with an upgrade. Restaurant very Goidelic.
The family room size was above expectations, the restaurant offered refined cuisine, again above expectations. Slight odor in unaired room. The bathroom could have been cleaned better on arrival, but was cleaned very much better the second day.
The staff was wonderful and walk to city was less than I expected Room was pretty small.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful in both French and English. The room (301) was fantastic for my wife and I travelling with out two teen sons. A mere 8 minute walk to the heart of the old city of Colmar.
modern, and nice personel It was my fault, but I expected it to be an a more cosy sight/street in the city center. I find the location very important, when I only stay 1 night in such a small city.
Clean room with airco, good breakfast. Quality of dinner in the restaurant is marginal (food and ambiance).
The hotel was only a 5 minute walk into the centre of Colmar.
Good room for family with older children, and good for family with 3 children. Great breakfast, on street parking outside and good location. Easy to find. Room with mezzanine level up v steep open wooden stairs, unsuitable for younger children or sleep walkers. Stuffy and airless as unable to leave french door open onto shared balcony when we slept.
Nice view on the vineyards and ideally located for visiting the small villages of wine routes.
staff, locations, room size, decoration and cleanness. A real good hotel in a country where hotels are below standards
This hotel has a central location in the heart of the Alsace region close to all the major villages located on the famous Route des Vins d'Alsace. It is located on a hill in the middle of the vineyards with a beautiful view on the surrounding villages and mountains. Large rooms are very nice and employees are very friendly. I am afraid that I do have the same negative comment as many other reviewers about the beds: the mattresses are very thin and the feather bed cover (couette) is too small, thus not covering the whole bed and body while you sleep.
Rooms were very comfortable, quiet with great views. While large suites were pricey, the size and amenities in the end made the stay good value. Highly recommended, we will visit again.
Very pretty setting and cleverly laid out lodging arrangements. Taking breakfast on the shaded in terrace with a stunning view was particularly enjoyable. Garden and pool also very nice. Rooms/studios roomy and comfortable. Staff very freindly and service minded Two separate beds pushed together does not constitute a large double bed as advertised!! In addition, the mattresses in our room were extremely soft - possibly due to wear. Whilst the general standard of cleanliness was high, the chair in our bedroom was very badly stained and really shold not have been left in the room in that condition.
The best in the hotel are the bed stuff. It miss a restaurant.
Peace, quiet and delightful loc.ation; excellent facilities
The hotel chaufre services to excellent restaurants near by in the evening
Great location. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. There was a "sewage" type smell in the room. Staff tried to perfume it away. It would clear with opening of the windows, but would return.
Transport to and from local restaurants.
Friendly and helpful staff. There was no bar. Needed updating/modernizing slightly.
Nice hotel, beautiful location, good service
A very comfortable and friendly hotel. Reception staff were very helpful. Try to get a room overlooking the village with an amazing view of Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle. A bit on the pricey side compared with some other hotels we stayed at in Alsace.
this was an overnight stop over travelling from Tuscany to Rotterdam. it was a bed for the night and so we really did not judge it more widely. no complaints though!
Very friendly staff, nice buffet breakfast, very clean rooms, pretty architecture. Beautiful location on the Alsace wine road, near historical locations and walking trails.
A charming very French inn with a fabulous location and view of the vineyards, mountains, and nearby castle. The food was gourmet.
the hotel is located in a main spot along the wine rout in a quiet village.the rooms are nicely decorated and large.nice bathroom. the hotel closes everything by 10 pm and there isn't any option for even a cup of coffee.
1)friendly service and 2)location (quiet and nice view) even though very friendly, slightly slow service at the restaurant
Had a very nice room with balcony overlooking the vineyards and Kronenberg Castle. Dining room was closed Mon. & Tues. nights (low time of the week?) although you could book ahead and reserve for dinner if convenient.
The location was good. This hotel has a great view too bad that the porch was closed to us so we could not enjoy it. Also there was no staff during the evening so if there was a problem you could not ask for help. Also the tv had a special turn on button which was unknown to us and we were not told how to turn it on.
A hotel and town with a difference! Stepping back in time but retaining modern comforts makes a most refreshing stay.
Proximity and good ambience
not a complaint but tea making facilities would have improved things
Good location. Uncomfortable bed.
The authentic nature of the hotel which is situated in a beautiful medival village.
Lovely position in the centre of the beautiful town, full of character, breakfast outside in courtyard Room was very hot (no fans or air conditioning) and bedroom furniture a bit 'tired' - needs updating
The location and the charm and decor of the hotel. It was like a scenes fro a Hansel and Gretel story. We liked it so much we stayed a second night. The reception staff were a little slow to attend and one chap (the bar man from downstairs) was particularly awkward when we mentioned that the light fitting from the shower was left sitting on the toilet.
Very nice location, beautiful city, beautiful old building. The personell was not very friendly. Not a real familyhotel.
The charm of the medieval hotel, the way modern conveniences were retro-fitted into the original very old building. Very colorful and friendly. The extra charge for the breakfast was too much, though the breakfast was nicely done.
Location excellent, room was spacious and comfortable.
Helpful staff who even anticipated when WiFi access was required and provided the pass word. Knowledgeable and helpful waiters who made excellent wine recommendations. Evening meals in restaurant were excellent and good value. Breakfast, included in the tariff, was not to the high standard of the evening meals and coffee was ordinary.
We got two separated beds unstead of one doublebed
What a perfectly situated hotel in the most adorable village in the Alsace region. We met the most wonderful wood sculptor and his Dad while walking around the village. Pefectly situated for wine country as well as visiting the Haut de Koenigsburg. The dinner and breakfast buffet were superb.
Excellent dinner and breakfast. Helpful staff. Beautiful pool and hot tub. WI-FI weak. Could receive but not send email, tough for business. Thick beach towels would be nice for pool.
Staff were available but did not crowd guests No
The town where is placed the hotel is very calm. The swimming pool is open at early in the morning and in the evening. The Structure is very clean and very equiped for a 3star hotel. The restaurant is good and very useful for a full total relax.
The new pool and leisure facilities are excellent. The hotel would be a great place to unwind for a few days. The room tariffs are high compared with other hotels we used in the Alsace. If there is little or no time to enjoy the facilities (we stayed only one night as part of a walking holiday) it offers poor value for money.
The place is great. Great view...
Friendly staff nice food
Service was absolutely fabulous!!! We arrived close to midnight and were totally tired after driving six hours and also after a minor misstrack when trying to find the hotel. Welcome was awesome! Even though Hotel´s kitchen and restaurant was closed, friendly gentleman saw that we were tired and propably hungry. He offered us very good local onion pie, salad and excellent wine! Rooms were small but comfy and clean. Our price was 49e/night which turned out to be excellent value for money. Will definately stay here when I´m visiting Alsace next time. If you are planning a trip to Alsace car is a must. Our bed was a bumby and actually a bit broken. AC could have been better.
wonderful, peaceful location along a river smoky reception/lobby area
A pleasant small hotel that had obviously undergone recent, tasteful, renovation. Homey, quiet garden behind hotel bordered river. Great for afternoon lounging. The innkeeper, also the chef, went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Dinner was the highlight with regional dishes and wines served to ten diners seated at one table.
As soon as we arrived we were make really welcome by the owner. Our room was so romantic overlooking the small river but also well-equipped. The public rooms were so relaxing and truly lovely with an 'honesty' bar. Outside was ample room to relax and enjoy the ambience. Although we didn't eat at the hotel we definitely will next time! The owner made some excellent recommendations of where to eat locally (Maximillian's) and buy wine. This hotel proved to be a perfect stop-over for a couple of nights en route to Italy.
We had a traditional room on the top floor and it was very comfortable with a modern bathroom, good bed, enough space and a view of Haut Koenigsbourg castle. We did have to climb 3 flights of stairs, which was not a problem for us, but may be for others. Breakfast at 12 E each was too expensive for us, and the nearest alternative is in Selestat.
We loved being out in the country. It was very relaxing to enjoy a drink by the river with newly made French friends. The breakfast and atmosphere were so enjoyable. We ate there one night (need to make reservations) and it was a real treat - food fresh from the market and so delicious. The location was perfect for getting to the wine road and those quaint little towns. Thank you, Stefan, for a wonderful weekend! We will come back.
Enough Room size and bed. Silent environment and good restaurant near the hotel.
The setting near a river and in a quiet place pleased us. The villages and towns nearby are lovely.
The style and ambiance of the Hotel was superb and all staff very helpful with a good grasp of English language. The room was superb with a great big bath perfect after 17 hours driving! We were not told that you had to pre order a dinner if you wished to dine at the Hotel but the staff did ring and book an excellent local resturant
The service and the room was perfect.
Very friendly staff, they do their utmost. The atmosphere is perfect with country style lobby. The rooms are tidy and clean in the same style like the lobby. Perfect for vacation or to relax a bit after a long business day. You have to book in advance for the dinner, which starts a bit late for my customs: 18:30. The food is quite heavy, which is typical in Alsace as I have experienced. Single menu for taking, or leaving it.
Central position of this new hotel.
The design inside the hotel and decoration is really looked after and they used quality products modern, well designed. I loved the breakfast, every morning fresh bread. Its a very nice personal manage hotel the people are very nice and friendly. its small but we loved it. Infect we did not have any complain, it was great. When I have to give a comment on this question the only one thing is, This hotel is not mend for smokers. the hotel is smoke free.you can only smoke outside.
Pascal and his wife were wonderful and were most helpful to make our stay in Colmar lovely. Quatorze is a new boutique hotel and everything is splendid- down to the teapot, the rainshower!, even the geranium smelling bath gel is divine. The room and artwork throughout hotel are fun and the quilts puffy and crisp. We stayed two more nights and look forward to returning- so centrally located to strolll to Colmar's museums and village.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Well appointed modern rooms. Great bar and breakfast. The automatic lighting was a bit spooky but made us laugh. Using the toilet in the dark or having a light come on during the night when you stretched your legs.
We received a friendly welcome and shown to our room. When booking a time for dinner we were asked which table we would like reserved. An excellent dinner followed and a good nights sleep. And all at a reasonable price.
Upper room is quite spacious with nice large bath area. Dining is excellent with a good chef. Interesting interior of the restaurant, and very good breakfast. Staff is very helpful. Water was not as hot as it might be, but acceptable.
The ambiance of a luxury country hotel
Friendly, efficient staff.... pleasant room with lovely old ambience. None I can think of!
A very nice hotel in a very interesting area. We expected a hotel with atmosphere, a wish that was fullfilled. The restaurant was at the very fine same level. None except difficult parking facilities
we stayed in europe about 1 month at 8 different locations. the couple that run this hotel were some of the kindest people we met. the rooms were large and very clean. the hotel and the town were charming. when we stay in this area again we will stay here again. no english tv, which is sometimes a blessing.
a truly adorable hotel with friendly staff, superb room, 2 lovely labradors, with the best restaurant we'd had in our 2 weeks' trip in France. Desperately wish to come again. rien
The comfort and cleanliness of the rooms. The very helpful staff. The location was very nice as well.
Friendly service, delicious food, beautiful location, and a very comfortable room.
Everything was perfect. Staff, location, food... Nothing to say. I'd like to stay during the spring or summer time... Perfect position for your visit along Alsace region.
Very nice place, beautiful rooms
Hotel De I'llwald is in a great location for touring the Alsace area. The three buildings buildings have been beautifully renovated and our room was large and comfortable with a modern bathroom. The staff were friendly and happy to use English given our limited French. The meals were excellent, both dinner and breakfast are slightly expensive but still recommended.
The auberge in itself is lovely and gives a real flavour of Alsace. The restaurant is excellent as is breakfast but prices may not allow for dinner there every night. The staff are kept very busy and although this comes across they are more than friendly and helpful. The rooms vary in size and even having one of the smaller rooms it was percfect for two. The bathrooms are particularly nice with great showers, perfect after a dip in the pool. Would highly recommend for others on the wine route. Entrance to some of the rooms is via buzzer entry which can be disruptive during the night. If a light sleeper avoid room 2.
The location of the hotel was perfect for the purpose of our visit, very quiet and the restaurant was a big bonus after a busy day.
Hotel is situated near the road and has a very nice garden around. Everything was almost perfect.
This hotel with its perfect design between traditional and modern is a real treat!!! The dinner in the restaurant was excellent at a very reasonable price. For breakfast there was fresh fruit, juice, homemade jam and a choice of bread and croissants, all nicely arranged in baskets on the table. Because I love to sit up in bed to read, I would replace the art picture on the wall with a smaller one.
lovely comfortable room and staggeringly good restaurant both visually and "foodily"!! a bit pricey but worth it
I did not like it. Impersonal staff, unclean bathroom, outrageous price I liked nothing
The history and the building itself. have a lovely courtyard for breakfast.
Right in the city and with great architecture.
Excellent staff, great rooms. Fascinating old building. Delicious food.
10 minutes on food to city center,it's not so far. Friendly staff. I could parking under ground with booking in advance.
Observe that there are some metal curtains hidden behind the transparant curtains that will shut the morning sun out if you don't feel like waking up at 0530.
The hotel is very well located, at five minutes walk from the principal attractions of Colmar, in the middle of a park, which ensures that it is quite despite of the good location. If you drive a car make sure that you call the hotel in advance to ensure that you have room in the hotel parking which is not too big. Breakfast was very good, facilities at good standard level and the hotel staff friendly and efficient.
The hotel reception was excellent and the room was well kept and clean.
The location of this hotel is good to go to the old town and new town centre. Easyer to find the way to come back to the hotel from those busy area.
All was OK. People was excellent; the room, new and clean. Situation was perfect, very very close to Colmar center.
Friendly staff; location excellent (and easy to find); breakfast also excellent. Hotel was very good. Much more than I expected.
location, comfort, room size, cleaness
vicintiy to old town, quiet place next to the park
Excellente situation en plein centre ville avec plusieurs types de parking. Chambres conventionnelles mais agréables donnant sur un park. Très calme.
Very conveniently situated near to motorway, also accommodation for our black labrador dog. Nothing.
Hotel restaurant is lovely No restaurants in the area. The maid threw away my husband's very important medication when she cleaned the room.
Comfort of bed, tea and coffee facilities, cleaning staff very efficient Cooking not very good, food appeared to be microwaved and a meal was ruined by being served cold.
Better to make one more internet connection quicker than Wi-Fi.
Very convenient for what we wanted to do - travel around the area. Service at our evening meal was not good. We felt over looked and forgotten maybe because we did not speak French and their English was poor.
The view on the Alsatian valley is really remarkable The hotel is over 1 km of hard slope out of the town. It's not a downward, it's a pleasent walk between the vineyards, but without car could be a problem
Very friendly staff. Well furnished and comfortable rooms. Views of vineyards and valley from terrasse. Nice pool and spa/sauna. Excellent restaurant at reasonable prices. Very relaxing place to stay. Nothing. You do need a car or be reasonably fit since the hotel is located high up in the vinyards.
the service was great and the staff was very helpful. Also if you eat in the dinner is of excellent value and quality.
Serene and beautiful setting. Staff is excellent; they provide specialized attention to your desired travel wants and needs.
It was in a great setting right in the middle of vineyards. The room was very good unfortunately not able to take advantage of the terrace as it was so hot when we were there. The air conditioning worked fine in the bedroom but the bathroom and toilet were very hot. Great food in their restaurant with beautiful views over the countryside.
