It's relaxing countryside location, yet within easy reach, (15 to 20 minutes) of the nearest town.
We have stayed at rhe Hotel a few times and have always been comfortable although the rooms are small.
The genuine farmhouse surroundings and an excellent 5 course dinner. Having to leave.
peaceful rural location - delightful grounds, with picnic tables and chairs, some sheltered - warm welcome (we arrived too early)and friendly helpfulness by all the staff - clean comfortable rooms with good ensuite facilities - excellent meals (some of the food no doubt coming from the farm) - ability to understand & speak French a big advantage Rooms rather dark - flies (inevitable when staying at a farm!)
Lovely staff, very traditional style farmhouse with delightful dining room and good food. Great breakfasts in particular. The bedroom was a little dark but had a space to sit outside with table/chairs etc. and was clean and comfortable. Child friendly. Rooms were a little dark.
The peace and quietness coupled with friendly and unobtrusive service. The warm bath and log fire after a very wet day. Personally I have a small appetite and the servings at dinner were too large but I realise this would be an advantage for many.
Charming accommodation. Excellent cuisine! Very welcoming. Room had a bit of a damp smell but it didn't spoil our stay
Peaceful atmosphere, courteous staff, beautifully appointed room and ensuite, comfortable public rooms. Free parking in the square fronting the hotel. Central location in a town full of history and charm. Did not have its own resturant but there were plenty of reasonable eating places in the town. The TV in room did not appear to have English speaking channels. A mini bar would have been useful.
Excellent and comfortable room, pleasant and very helpful staff, very good buffet breakfast with the one reservation below Unusually the offer of bacon, sausage and scrambled egg on the buffet, likely for a largely British clientele. But unfortunately the British influence extended to the scrambled eggs, which were awful and worthy of an English hotel.
Position Room was small and plain. Things worn. Needs redcoration. No power plug at the desk.
Very welcoming. They have renovated a bit since our last stay a few years ago Room thermostats not turned up before arrival
It was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Some of the furniture in the corridors was broken and the displays looked tired, otherwise it was fine.
The room was comfortable and the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. I would have liked parking to be included in the room rate. To be fair the hotel staff when asked where the entrance to the hotel car park was located said I could park free in the square in front of the hotel.
It's comfortable, spacious and very central to the town. It's the second time we've stayed there this year. It was primarily to visit the town, but had the hotel not been good, we'd have selected another on the second trip.
Very nice, large, spacy and quiet hotel. The executive double room is large and comfortable. Nice location in old city, central for many trips to other places of interest along the coast and inland. The adjacent restaurant is very good, superb food (but not cheap). Breakfast OK.
Building itself is very attractive and there is good parking in the square just by the hotel. English speaking reception staff if you need this. Not very good value for money - rooms were fairly ordinary, some shabby paintwork and bathroom tiling in the rooms - we stayed in 2 different ones plus were allocated a room which we asked to change because the window didn't close securely on the ground floor. There was nothing wrong with this hotel, and the location was great for what we needed, but I probably wouldn't stay there again.
Small and perfectly formed!! Small rooms but so expertly fitted out. Everything you could need. Comfort very good. The staff were very accommodating. My French is not good so we had some French lessons. Thank you Elodie!!! If you want a large bedroom then this is not for you but the comfort and kindness of the staff more than makes up for room size. Adequate lounge and bar so you don't have to sit in your room!!!
All rooms very well appointed if a little small. Very nice reception area but bar closes at 10pm so do not expect a late drink
we loved the room, small but clean ,very modern, nice large shower & excellent bedlinen.Good breakfast, plenty of parking spaces & friendly staff.Good value.
Clean, comfortable rooms, good situation Staff not very friendly
price small rooms .no english menu
The staff were welcoming and friendly, the rooms are small but well designed and spotlessly clean. Perfect for a stopover without having to be in central Calais. Nothing!
beautiful setting and lovely room not enough tea bags and coffee in the room
Fantastic firendly staff, excellent quality rooms and very careful attention to detail. We had a family room and it was ideal for us and our two children - very spacious and comfortable.
The rooms were tastefully decorated, the food was of an excellent quality and reasonably priced.
Family rooms available
Pleasant staff, good food and surroundings.
It is very central, the rooms were nice, quiet, clean, and the courtyard cozy. The breakfast is probably not worth the 15 euro, but there was no hassle about declining it. It would be nice if the wifi extended to the rooms and not just the lobby.
Central locality in small historic town. Welcoming staff. Quality food.
Had a family room which was large with separate bathroom and toilet. Bedroom and bathroom were very large. Bathroom had large selection of products/towels etc a really good hotel. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and the fruit salad was very fresh. Dinner menu very nice but a bit pricey but that maybe due to area.
Excellent family room, perfect for our needs 15 euros for breakfast seemed expensive
Centre of town, pleasant staff, good location to visit other locations in area Would have liked to have a final nightcap, about 11.45 in the evening, but advised "c'est ferme". The 4 couples who were in the party are mature, well mannered and we didn't think, that for residents, it was much to ask.
We didn't stay long because we were going further south and the weather was poor. The hotal restaurant was excellent.
The food The room we had on the first night was cramped and uncomfortable.
Location and staff excellent. we dined in the restaurant and as always it was fantastic. I think the car parking charge at 14 euros is too high. We paid the firstnight but parked in the square adjacent the second, a more reasonable rate and we would have parked both nights.
The room was okay but we did not eat at the hotel too expensive 14 euros to park overnight was expensive parked on road outside
Our room was nice and clean and the heating system was excellent. Breakfast was good, with excellent service. The location is great, being only an hour and a quarter from Calais and half an hour from Le Touquet. Montreuil, and Hesdin, which is half an hour further inland, are both excellent for shopping and eating out. Lock-up parking was offered at €14 a night. We declined and parked by our room. On leaving, our bill included €28 for parking. They said parking by our room was also chargable, and a notice displayed outside stated that. Unfortunately, the writing was small, so we hadn't been able to read it. We'd booked a table for the Saturday night and were greeted cordially, and offered an aperitif on arrival. After our 2 Dubonets arrived we found out they cost €8 each - you can buy a litre for €8.25! We chose the cheapest menu (€40 each). After our starters, it took over an hour for our main courses to arrive. My fish and my partner's beef were both too tough to eat. Sad - we stayed and ate there before, really enjoyed it, and didn't feel overcharged.
The reason we coming back to this hotel is the fantastic resturant - makes it a great weekend treat.
No pretensions. Got what you paid for. Very relaxed.
cheeful plite staff
Food excellent - menu terroir interesting and good value - excellent cheese table. Attractive courtyard layout - quiet rooms . Bathroom decor
It is utterly charming, well situated in an interesting and historic part, and the staff and courtesy and design of the rooms are excellent. The rain!
The meal was excellent but the room was poor
The rooms were excellent and the building is very special as is the location near the town's ramparts
Beautiful setting with lovely grounds making for a relaxing stay.
A very French experience, lovely suite, traditionally decorated. Excellent food, wine and restaurant service No access to room till 3pm, but as we arrived early we were told that we could get in at 1pm, so waited around 45 mins, then told not ready, be another 30 mins, then told come back at three. We wasted a couple of hours doing this.
A basic but good hotel. Very helpful owner. Room was fine, breakfast was lovely. Parking no problem.
Clean good shower Room too small difficult to walk round bed, no space for luggage no space for car parking.
Very good breakfast Room drab but clean ,shower needs nonslip mat, toilet bowl broken
Booking procedure and breakfast were fine Our 'superior' room was like a small box. The tiny ensuite had a slide and fold plastic door which did not close.
The hotel should mend the broken and mouldy tiles around the shower
The breakfast was good. The staff were quiet but friendly very basic room and not much space. Shower too small.
Convenient location On street parking
Friendly service and quiet atmosphere
Clean, quiet and convenient
It was clean and well located
location surly staff. Very poor food in restaurant - massively overpriced
The staff were excellent, welcoming and gracious. And in the room the bed was generous, the linen lovely and the bath robes a treat. The food was superb and we will certainly return. In common with many French hotels, the lighting in the room could be improved.
The setting is lovely beside a river and below the medieval walls. The food was imaginative and very good and with some interesting surprises. The room had fun touches (e.g. lightbulbs with wings) and a nice bathroom. Would recommend going there for dinner, but staying elsewhere nearby. The drinks were very overpriced - 11 euros for a mediocre, small glass of wine, which was listed on the board as being 8 euros. The room was quite expensive for what it was - the bed took up most of the room and you didn't even get a bottle of water without paying for it. The gravel outside meant that anyone walking by was very noisy. Also, the hotel booking said that there was free Wifi throughout the hotel but there was none. When we asked about it, we were just told "You are in the country - what do you expect?" When we mentioned it to the owner the next morning, he just shrugged and didn't say anything. I would have expected better customer service from a hotel that is expensive and advertises itself as something special.
Food, food and food! The most fantastic, innovative, surprising and delicious dinners and superb, if simple, breakfasts. The staff were friendly and helpful (not always guaranteed in France!). The position at the foot of a fortified and charming town with walkable walls. The location facing a river and pretty countryside in a quiet, upmarket, village. It was expensive but considering the food (did I mention that?) we were happy to pay it.
The food was interesting but pretentious comparing it with the Hotel Montrachet - Pouligny where we stayed for 3 nights it is overpriced.
Central to the town. Quiet location. Good choice of nearby restaurants. Not too expensive A bit "run down". Slightly "musty"
Breakfast was good Cental heating was not on room was cold had to ask tobe put on not very good
Only location The decor is horrendous, no shower worked properly. It felt cold and had to request heat to be turned on. No place except bar to go apart from room. Would not rebook
Central location on main square, friendly staff, easy car parking, quiet at night. Convenient restaurant for breakfast and other meals. Tired furniture and decoration. Small TV. Cold room the first night before the central heating was turned on.
Ideal situation in the centre of Montreuil Room should have been available from 11am, but the hotel was closed when we arrived at 16.00 until 17.30. We needed to get to our room after a whole day's travelling and couldn't.
Basic but clean No facilties for coffee/tea making in room. Stayed on a Sunday evening and there was no restaurant available.
Location Run down, starting to look shabby.
good atmosphere, simple food, good for families
Central location and adequate parking available None
Cheap and cheerful and a good centrally located stop-over. Helpful reception staff. Tea/coffee making facilities were welcome. Convenient for the centre of town with convenient parking. Surprisingly quiet considering the central location despite the fair being in town that weekend. Small room. Breakfast at 7 euros seemed a little expensive.
Very friendly staff. Good service.
Reasonable Price.Good Central Location in Town.Secure Parking.Good Breakfast.Quiet Area.Perfect For An Overnight Stay.
Owners were very friendly and helpful. Even loaned us the use of their own child's high chair.
pretty basic really-but o.k.just
Friendliness of the owners Value for money Secure off street parking
Friendly owners, plenty of space. Lots of hot water. within easy reach of beaches and other towns.
Central position in town. Car parking Sofa beds uncomfortable for sitting; would prefer armchair
Location/convenience to Le Touquet (where reasonably priced hotels were booked up) an the secure parking One shower door was missing, there was no milk/powdered milk for tea and coffee making
The staff, the appartment and its location
Food was very good. Bedrooms and surrounds needs to be updated. However it looked as if work was about to be carried out.
Easy to find, safe parking, good restaurant attached.
Quiet and private location
W felt the hotel was basic we stayed in room 4 and was dissapointed with the quality of the shower and the furniture was only good for one person and very little comfort, the staff were pleasant and helpfull and the meal was good quality altho we felt the resteraunt lacked any atmosphere, breakfast was very good quality altho coffee and tea making facilities if not available in the room should be made available, perhaps this is the case and we did not understand any directions regarding tea or coffee making. We would regard this as a motel with a resteraunt and not a hotel.
proximity to ports We were very disappointed with the meals. Didn't appear to be freshly prepared and not of a quality at the price. Wine was over-priced. Croissants not cooked thoroughly the room smelt slightly of smoking.
basic clean hotel with excellent restaurant, convenient location & reasonably priced for a dinner, bed & breakfast
The breakfast was more than sufficient. They obviously cater for the English with their bacon and scrambled eggs! The location was excellent for us, being close to Hardelot golfcourse.
Excellent restaurant Uncomfortable bed
Friendly staff Excellent restaurent but restricted menu
Restaurant a la carte Breakfast was 8.5 euros, even for my two children aged 9 and 6 yrs who hardly ate, in fact the only thing they ate was a bowl of cornflakes for 8.5 euros?. The most expensive meal ever? I did query this with receptionist but was told there was no child breakfast price.
Excellent breakfast and dinner, friendly host, ideal situation in centre of town with rampart walk close by
The location of the hotel is just off the main road, but its also next to the path for the towns rampart walks. The breakfast we thought was a good continental offering. As well as the usual cereals, bread, croissants, coffee etc, there was fruit salad, cheese and ham. The double bed we didn't find comfortable at all, the decor was a bit tired and two wall hooks substituted for a wardrobe. The toilet in the room shall we say was not very private. However the worst point for us was the host played a piano until 01:00 am in the lounge which was below our room. We had a long journey ahead the following day. He should have had more consideration for his guests.
Nothing I'm afraid. The room was awful. Dirty, dreadful broken furniture, cramped (considering it was a quadruple room), smelly and dirty toilet the size of a cupboard, bed linen was very crumpled, towels were shabby, bed too short (for a 5'11'' man!)......a real disappointment!
Well located, nice bar, good breakfast, staff ok. Nice shower cabine in the room The room was tiny (no cupboard), and the bed too small for a tall person like me (1m92).
We only used it for an overnight stop on the way to Eurotunnel so unfortunately so didnt have time to do anything except sleep
It is well positioned and rerasonably priced. This was more like an old fashioned B&B than an hotel. Access is through a narrow door at the side of the bar. Although adequate it was all a bit run down and poorly finished. However not overly expensive. Warning! The stairs (No lift) are lethal. Very steep and narrow and some of the risers in the second flight are extremely high.
Easy access from A16, and to nearby Le Touquet. Parking opposite hotel. Spacious family room with comfrotable beds.
I'd read some reviews, mostly good, so was aprehensive. It was clean, bright and comfortable with excellent facilities and ideally situated on the outskirts of Le Touquet where parking can be a problem. Here at 'Le Charles' I was able to park opposite, about 20 metres away. We shall certainly stay there again. The hotel is literally 5 minutes from the motorway exit.
The location of the Hotel was good, and parking over the road was very easy.We only had our breakfast's in the hotel but it was ok. The hotel was very clean. The tv service was inadequate. A list of timings for all meals available would be convenient.
Shwer worked well and parking was easy. Generally tired feel to everything - carpets worn, sink blocked, not preapred for us.
excellent food - breakfast & evening meal. comfortable room - plenty of space toilet in a very narrow area
