It was situated in a charming fishing village and the building had lots of Dutch "character" and every effort was made by the staff to make us feel comfortable and welcome. It was quite warm while we were there so we had to open all the windows, which did not have screens on them. The hotel could use air conditioning units in the rooms or screens on the windows to keep bugs out.
Marken itself is a lovely site. The dinner at the hotel was superb.
Nice rooms, beautiful location on small island with traditional Dutch buildings and a lighthouse. Hotel restaurant bit expensive and given small town, only few other dining options.
Unique little hotel hotel on the beautiful island of Marken, outstanding restaurant; the owner went to the market the same day we arrived and came back with delicious lemon soles. Everything is always this fresh, so the menu changes everyday. The room categories are a bit confusing. We booked a "Luxury Double Room with lakeview" and got a (very pretty) room with a balcony; it wasn't facing the port-side though. Our room was defintely the "Luxury Double Room with balcony" and not the one we booked. It didn't really matter, because it was still nice.
friendly and beautiful
It is a very nice hotel with a family atmosphere. Quiet environment in amazing place: historical village with wooden houses and small harbour for yachts. Very friendly people.
wonderful setting. Very friendly staff.
I liked the stay, atmosphere and staff attitude. location is ok, parking instructions should be better
Very elegant, very good food (dinner and breakfast).
the owners, the staff,the food,the dog,the location.
The hotel is excellent. Very clean, close to Amsterdam ( ~15 min of driving) and to the turistic sites. Excellent services , comfort and staff. Very good value for money
The food was very good both for breakfast and dinner Location-near to Volendam, Edam, Marken
tour the breakfast is to expensive
Good value and very tidy Noise from some of the residents on balconies until early hours of the morning. However, only on one of the five days we stayed.
convenience of public transport no tea/coffee making facilities in room
Balcony not cleaned to expected standard. Security system based on magnetic card creates problems when two people share room (one card only provided)
Good family friendly facilities,e.g. playstations and pool Under the bed had not been cleaned for a very long time - it was grey with dust which was not impressive. Also the 'floor' of the pool was filthy and had obviously not been cleaned for a while. We had been told breakfast would be included with our package but when we doublechecked we were told definitely not, The reception staff were not overly friendly.
Good price / quality / family hotel. Certainly not for a romantic weekend / night. Very noicy with lot of elder people. Food was ok.
Enjoyed our stay at the hotel but further away from where we expected to stay. Bus service just outside hotel was very good though
NICE QUIET PLACE TO STAY. CLOSE TO AMSTERDAM
It was all good. Would have liked tea-making facilities in the room, and would have liked to be able to go to breakfast later than 9.30am
breakfast no comments
Beautiful sea view, big room , 7 min from bus stop Noisy at night time because of restaurant, small covers on the bed,
The room is big enough. The lift wasn't working, hence have to use the stairs especially a bit troublesome with small children and heavy luggage. Also we stayed at the first floor near the stairs, hence, it was very very noisy at night. We could hear people walking up and down and also restaurant staff clearing the tables and chairs. It was too noisy that we had troubles sleeping comfortably.
It was a fantastic setting right in the middle of the pretty harbour. It was a very comfortable hotel and the staff were excellent. We stayed as part of a 2 week holiday in five countries and the service here was by far the best.
Once we found the hotel, it was in a very convenient location, close to shopping, many restaurants, and city sightseeing/culture. Our room was spacious, bright, and clean. It felt good to be there. There was a leak in the bathroom ceiling which we told the receptionist about.
The location is good, nice terras nice for the daytime, very good restaurant, good sevice. No music, closing time very early [ around 10,30 P.m ], boring evenings in Volendam during my stay, bot maybe this was the low season.
Having breakfast in the open air overlooking the harbour. Volendam is lovely and the hotel has a great location. The lift broke down almost stranding my colleague between floors. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room would have been welcome.
Beautiful location .....friendly staff,,,,good food. Poor quality of bathroom fittings..... wash hand basin had 3 large cracks which were filled over.
The calm original old village, the harbour and canals, the bells from the church, the very extrordinary room, the staffs surprises and a very good "value for money" restaurant. Excellent stay.
Everything was excellent, the room, the helpful staff, the meals. The quality of the food was among the best we have seen anywhere. Our complements to the owners for a job well done.
Exellent atmosphere. Staffs are very friendly and kind.
It was a very nice hotel for the special rate I received. No, this is probably the nicest hotel or equals the nicest hotel that I have stayed inn while visiting Holland on many occasions.
The restaurant is great, also the staff is very nice we will come back soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friendy staff, nice athmosphere The room could do with a door for the lavatory
The hotel is small and beautifully decorated. The rooms are too small, specially considering that we booked a luxury room. There isn¨t lift and the stairs are too narrow. The price of the rooms doesn¨t match the quality of service or the premises. I think they charge too much for what they offer. They didn¨t have receptionists and the cleaning service was poor.
the location and the terrace we had in our room!!!
Quiet location, freindly staff, great restaurant
I really like the restaurant and the garden, dinner was good too my room is just next to the public male's washroom and mine is a single room in the lowest rate!!
Everything about our stay was excellent. Accomodation, friendliness, meals. We will certainly be returning at a future date.
Lovely location along the canal, beautiful landscaping, comfortable bed, nice ambiance in restaurant, short walk to local shops along cobblestone streets. Old world charm. Second story rooms have narrow stairs that might be difficult for seniors / handicap / large luggage.
The location i9s near the town center but parking is a problem. Parking may be some distance aray from the hotel. The hotel rooms did not seem to have adequate insulation so that noise from the room next was easily transmitted to the next room.
Our room was very clean and quiet, and the location of the hotel is excellent.
It was incredibly charming
A delightful hotel in a perfect location. Lots of attention to detail. The garden area right next to the canal was allocated to hotel guests which was pleasant. Considering the hotel was in the centre of Edam ,parking was not a problem and was free and close by.The room was very comfortable and service excellent. Good breakfast with plenty of choice and well presented. The restaurant was pricey( but on a par with others in the area.).There was nothing else to dislike.
the beautiful setting and ambiance, very relaxing, extremely friendly staff no
Very nice village Room very small
Very comfortable, clean, and quiet. A little difficult to find location.
spacious rooms, modern, light, airy, nice design 1 Terrible queues constantly for reception - why ever dont you have more staff on? Morning and evening was the same. 2. if a double bed is booked please make the twin beds up as one double by using one large sheet. We asked but this was apparently not possible, although we had booked double beds and not twins. 3. Get fresh air into the landings!! 4. If you really cannot fix a hairdryer into the room then leave a notice saying how one may be acquired. 5. Have some pegs or rails or a chair in the bathroom for used towels, sponge bags etc. 6.In the interests of the environment ask guests to hang up towels that they would like to keep for another day ie dont automatically change them every day - it isnt necessary and harms the world.
Location was good near Edam and Volendam. Breakfast was poor.
Liked spaciousness, nice bathroom with a bath which my wife prefers to a shower. Poor ventilation unless large doors were left open, making the room stuffy overnight. Lack of keys to lock both patio doors and the inter leading door between adjoining rooms. Luckily the people in the adjoining rooms were friends that we could trust.
hotel is new, clean and cheap a bit longer from the city, bedroom no dark
Big room, tidy, good location. Hotel reception closed 7pm and 11pm everyother day. No info about this on the website. No extra blankets. No hangers for the towels in bathroom. No fridge in the room.
We liked the location and the decor of the hotel We were not aware that the hotel desk closed at 8 p.m. and arrived at 8:15. We had a hard time figuring out that we were to use a call box and give our reservation number and then someone would come unlock the door and get us checked in. We waited outside for 20 minutes. They were very nice though once we finally got in.
The location. If the weather was poor no cafe or bar facilities within the hotel therefore would have to go out of the building.
Central location, staff was very helpful. We were not aware that no one would be at the reception when we arrived. The street was not on our GPS and we called the agency that did the booking and they did not give us accurate directions. I feel this is important because the directions they gave us led us to the next town.
Spacious room with nice view over the Gouwzee. Very new and hence very good state of maintenance. Terrific location. Very good value for money due to low price. Nice staff (when present). Management should realise that running a hotel is something else than running cottages. E.g. for a hotel it is really not acceptable that the reception closes after all expected guests have arrived (reception desk in a hotel has additional tasks over only welcoming new guests), and daily cleaning of rooms should be normal (instead of only on request).
You can rent bikes at the hotel; the room was big; there's a nice swimming pool. The reception closes at 8 p.m. and you have to give bikes back before that time. beds are not very confortables.
Friendly staff, informal atmosphere, good food Nothing. We were very pleased with our stay at the Dam Hotel.
Watched England play on BBC tv. Good food in restruant at reasonable prices. Everything was fine
Nice romantic rooms, helpful staff and good food.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The accommodation was excellent. we stayed in the madame Butterfly room which we enjoyed. There was no view, but the room was so luxurious it didn't matter. Centrally located in Edam. The Breakfast was delicious and the surroundings excellent
Tiny room but very nicely furnished. Good restaurant. Friendly service Noisy corridors and squeaky doors. A few oil drops on the door hinges would do a great service to guests. Amazing that management doesn't notice this.
This old hotel is luxuriously appointed with as much "Old World" charm as one might expect in The Netherlands. It was a pleasure to stay there. In spite of minor shortcomings I would strongly recommend this hotel for a romantic and beautifully located European interlude. No stairs up to the rooms which meant a very steep climb up a long stairway. Not for the old, weak or faint of heart. a malfunctioning fire alarm system awakened the guests at 2am and brought the fire department. We were told this has been happening recently. They ought to fix it now.
staff friendliness, good food, very relaxing to sit and enjoy a refreshment or a bite to eat
Super friendly and competent personel who are obviously enjoying their work; very tasteful interior, not only the brasserie and the restaurant, but also the rooms (each room is dedicated to a different historical figure, such as Rembrandt, Mozart, Molière, and decorated accordingly); superb food, lovely breakfast; open-air parking 2 mins walk from hotel
The hotel facilities are beautiful and the location is excellent.
convenient location; good atmosphere could not control bedroom aircon properly
good view of harbour no smoking rooms, kept on getting hassled to get out the room before 11.00 check out time
breakfast could have been better, something hot would have been nice. had an evening meal at the hotel which was excellent and reasonably priced .the rather noisy at night .hotel had no facilities for keeping my luggage after i checked out until my flight .
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. They have made changes in the rooms that I suggested after last year, that gave us more space. The rooms got very warm but i think a fan in the rooms would help
Room and breakfast are clean, simple and fine, just as I wanted. Good value for money. The bar in the hotel in the evening was a bit noisy, however that didn't bother us.
Watching the birds & boats over breakfast, and also from the room at various times. The small number of rooms is also an attraction - you don't get block booked by coach parties! The staircase is far too steep and the treads far too narrow (I can see there is a problem.) I did not come by car, and I do know where I could park, but I see this as a drawback for many motorists/guests
Breakfast. Friendly service. Had to ask for the heating to be turned on but was still not adequate. Was a cold and damp weekend. Beds were like hospital beds although comfortable enough to sleep in. No bedlight on one side. Just very basic.
beautiful veiw over the harbour, lovely room. Nice bar downstairs. nice town. Being british tea making facilities in the room would be nice!
Having been disappointed by our accomodation in Amsterdam. We have found our happiness staying in this hotel in Volendam. The location is superb, view is amazing, breakfast is generous and room is spacious and clean! Suitable for family with children. When checked out, there is no room to leave luggages at the hotel. You have to find an alternative which is not a problem as the Dutch are very friendly and helpful.
We selected the hotel for the site and the view. We had no view at all.
Breakfast very good. Hotel staff very helpful No
Nice room; picturesque neighbourhood, great jam session organized by the owner in hotel's cafe no
Very reasonable price. The room has a small kitchenette. There is a bar downstairs where concerts take place until very late.
This is the only place to stay when visiting Noord-Holland. The freedom of a kitchenette and easy access make this pension our favourite.
Pleasant Would like breakfast earlier
Frriendly staff, comfortable room.
Great location on a canal walking distance from the middle of beautiful Edam - secure place to park bikes.
A wonderful stay, the staff were great and Sunday night in the bar was amazing, with a live jamming session.
The sorroundings of the hotel are very nice Under the room there was a bar with live music and for two days was very difficult to sleep
The owners of the B&B are very friendly and even advised me which places I should visit in the area. Very clean and spacious B&B. It is located in a quiet residential area where you can get away from all the noise. The only thing that I feel inconvenient is the lack of credit card facilities. They only accept cash at the moment.
We enjoyed the excellent service and lovely breakfast, room was clean and comfortable, surroundings were beautiful and very quiet, so we could sleep very well. Very close to major cities, like Amsterdam and Alkmaar, and with good public transport.
We were very impressed by everything and especially the fantastic breakfast. We have nothing bad to say about the b&b place.
Beautiful countryside, Friendly owner and good breakfast. One of the only places with parking available in the area. Family room on top floor with very narrow stairs and no toilet on top floor.
While staying in B&B we feel ourself comfortable. Owners are pleasanr guys ready to help you. Everything is clean and breakfast is quite good. Kitchen is well equiped Entrance door was closed after midnight, but we solved this :)
Friendly welcome. Pleasant room with room to sit down comfortably as well as sleep. Nice countryside location and pleasant views. Breakfast was a bit rushed and we felt under a bit of pressure to finish and clear out of our room.
Very good price/quality. Very quiet place. And despite some comments on the web, there is now a bathroom for the 2nd floor! So I definitely recommend this place.
The Breakfast, the room and the staff
It's no hotel it's zimmer
Friendly staff, good food, nice room, good position
Modern, very clean, central. No plug in basin. No tea/coffee facility, Sharing one bathroom across hallway with others was not expected, Not single beds as ordered. Not advised that our stay coincided with last night of 4-day noisy, drunken Carnival Festival throughout the Volendam streets below our room. Noise all night from crews dismantling fairground rides and street cleaners. No car park. Very difficult to access hotel during Carnival. Had to leave car 1/3 mile away overnight and carry baggage through the dense crowds of drunk people! Streets deep in rubbish, cups, split beer, vomit etc. Not a good experience.
The staff were awesome and met our every expectations. For a bed & breakfast, overall I would rate them outstanding. And the food in the Italian Pizzaria and breakfast was awesome. So overall, I highly recommend it and when in that area will stay there again. Only negative thing is that is it right in the middle of the Vollendam tourist area which made parking a bit difficult, but location could not have been better.
Small hotel run by the person who owns the Dolce Vita Pizza Restaurant, who was friendly and helpful. Restaurant had good pizza. One problem. The hotel was upstairs from the Dolce Vita Pizza Restaurant and the manager was in Dolce Vita, but there was no sign anywhere to indicate that this was a hotel. We did not know that DV Groep was Dolce Vita and just went in there to ask where the hotel was.
The two Gentlemen who also run the Restaraunt below the rooms were very helpfull and could have done no more to please me they even gave me a car parking window sticker because car parking is a little restricted in the town. The Breakfast was fantastic even though I am a fried breakfast man this was contental style it was very well presented and fresh and I even got a taste for this type of Breakfast all in all the whole expierence of staying in this establishment is a credit to its owners and the staff employed there. May I take this opertunity to thank them all. well done The Town of Volendam is beautifull and any body visiting Holland and Amsterdam would be mad not to visit this town. It was our intention to visit Amsterdam but this little town had so much to offer that we just stayed there and did not visit the big city. I will be back and that is for sure. Great town. Great People. Great boats. Great Guest houses and Hotels. a must visit place.
Close to Amsterdam, right in the centre of Volendam
First I have to say that the hotel staff is amazing. Very friendly and doing every thing they can just to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. The hotel is very well situated in Volendam and within minutes of walk from the marina. In general this hotel is really what you can calll excellent "value for money". Our room was on the second floor with no elevator, so it was quite problematic to take our stuff from and to the room. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is a bit difficult (even with GPS) to find the hotel at first.
Good location. No window inside the room. The hotel rooms are located above a pizza restaurant and you can smell pizza inside the room...
