very central to train and old town. would stay again. upstairs bar area outside could do with upgrade.
Its position - we were first time tourists in Portugal and could walk to all the city's features. Parking service the best we experienced in our 3 weeks trip. The parking service - the best we experienced during our 3 weeks in Portugal
Good breakfast and excellent location. Bathroom was not very comfortable (shower too tied and hairdryer too weak)
I stayed there three nights, staff is very friendly specially the guy who received me in the evening 7 Nov 2010, they spoke with me in English and in French as well. They make me feel like at home and take care of me nicely. Hotel is at good location, just near to a train station Coimbra-A. Many restaurants of different kinds are just at one minute walk. University of Coimbra is round about at 15-20 minutes walk up to nearby hill. Hotel services are very good for me like, television, heater+AC, telephone, free WiFi, buffet break fast etc.Hotel is very clean. I really enjoyed my stay there and i think it was a good choice as compared to the price and services offered. just one bit problem for me was that my room was near to a road but when i closed the windows there was no noise.
The Parking Valet was great and a nice location.
The location was good. My room was spacious and very comfortable. The bar seemed more like a private club.
Decent city hotel, but nothing great really stands out. Good base for walking tours of the city. Tricky automobile access, offset by well-organized valet parking.
room was too hot
The hotel is well located, has confortable rooms and serves a good breakfast. Diet products at breakfast.
The hotel is modern and nice They didn't have parking, I didn't have a place to park and it was heavily raining, I . They have parking for 8 Euro per night .
opened in april 2010 so very clean rooms and good location by river.excellent check in staff. good evening meal breakfast food left uncovered , and waiting staff indifferent ( changing broken heatbulb without moving bacon and eggs etc under it!) signage directions to hotel should be more obvious from approach roundabout
Staff was very nice. Food was good but it it hard to find bad portugueses food. Garage is terrible, dark, unsafe and lacks ventilation. Had a CO alarm while there and it was scare. Very bad engineering. One needs to manouver on the top of the exit ramp to get out. Location is very bad on a really rundown area of the city. Quite depressing. Rooms had very ugly. Carpet is ugly, dated and filthy. One has tô wheat sandals. Dryer was bad. TV was really bad as far as image quality. Beds and pillows were really bad. All furniture was of bad quality. Internet was ridículos. Scratchy signal and when working (very seldon) was worse than the dial up of the old times. And staff had no idea or solution. Once they suggested me to walk around my room to improve the signal. I ha 2 iPads and 2 two iPhones and some times no one could get a signal. the sad part is that this one is supposed to be the best hotel in Coimbra. I guess I will never visit coimbra again.
Nice, big room Obviously, this is a new hotel and needs fine-tuning. There was too little staff to help out at the reception, there are too little elevators, the parking garage is too narrow to park comfortably and is reasonably expensive given the not-too-central location of the hotel. Rooms are big, but the colors chosen are slightly depressing.
The hotels decoration and the breakfast. The location. Probably the worst part of Coimbra.
Excllent Address hard to find
The staff was very helpful, always nice. The breakfast was great, lots of different cereals and hot food. The whole experience was very pleasant. The bathtub didn't have any antiderrapant device, and in my opinion, it should have, because we were staying in the handicapped room. Also, I think the parking fare should be included in the room price.
I loved the staff. They were incredibly helpful and knowledgable about the area. The location is fabulous. A short walk to all the hot spots. I thought the room was clean and nice. It was quiet on our street. My one problem with the place was that the walls seemed thin between the rooms. We heard our neighbor watching tv until about 4am. I managed to sleep through most of it but my wife was kept up.
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was well presented and prepared. I was happy with their knowledge of English. The parkade needs exit signs.
The best breakfast!
Pools, gym, steam room were all fantastic! The pillows were either too big or too small! Small detail but would greatly improve stay!
Very nice location We arrived at 9.30 pm, we said to receptionist that we would like to have the dinner in 30 minutes, we check in in the room and after 30 minutes come back to restaurant but...it was closed. Why didn't you say that the restaurant were closed in 30 minutes?
We loved it all but very expensive. Weknew that going in.
Fantastic situation and beautiful building. Where were the staff?
The hotel is set in a great location and IT IS A PALACE. Also the restaurants provide excellent food at a reasonable price that I would travel for. The room itself was not anywhere near 5 star quality and was dissapointing. Old, tired, spacious, yes, but luxurious it was not.
Nothing Does not smell good, furniture not changed since years, not well maintained hotel, absolutely not reached 5 stars standard
The peace and quiet and beautiful surroundings
Historic hotel in a spectacular natural setting with walking trails and gardens. The restaurant is excellent. Better signage on the walking trails and providing a better map of the surrounding parkland to guests would be helpful.
Excellent setting, beautiful building & gardens Rooms should be modernized
the atmosphere, historic building, the surrounding, the place the palace If we take into consideration the general European standard it doesn't meet the expectations of a 5 stars rather a 3 stars hotel If we compare to the Portugal standard it fits to a 4 stars hotel
The breakfast. The room was cold all night. I've warned the reception for this and they told me that the problem is going to be solved, but the room continued cold.
The location was a 15 minute walk to the center of the city. It was a modern building with a large comfortable room with all new facilities. Large flat screen TV with cable channels. The breakfast was nice. The room was too hoteven with the heat off. Did not like the walk about to the hotel from the city center at night. They had underground parking which was convenient but they charged 5 euro a day and the lot was empty.
Parking space under the hotel. Good size room. Directions on how to find it. Complex road system in this town with no opportunities to turn back.
Good hotel. All declared services are provided. Nothing special to add.
Well located in old town. Quiet. Decent room at good price - quality.
Service of the Reception Staff was excellent, they could not do enough to make you4r stay pleasant. Location is great walking to the old centre of Coimbra Internet for the guests was not working, and as it was a long weekend it could not be attended to. I was however able to use the staff computer to attend to my urgent business emails
Positive: clean, near to the centre of Coimbra, after checking out the parking place was still available (for free)
We only stayed one night but we thought that this hotel was excellent for our needs
Park garage.Location (15 min walk to city centre).
Hotel cleanliness and food was very good. Very nice employees. The floor propagates too much noise and in the silence of the night that's very noticeable.
The informal atmosphere, friendly staff and location of the hotel made it an excellent centre for our stay
It is a charming hotel with an olympic swiming pool with plenty of entertainment for kids but also for adults. The charm of the past may be seen as old fashion for some people. I thought a bottle of water was offered each day, but only the first one is offered.
confortable beds, quite, nice surroundings door lock did not seem to be secure
Children playroom Swiminmg pools Breakfast
Booking.com claim this hotel is about 12 miles from Coimbra. This is simply not the case its about 22 miles away by car. Really poorly located. Rip off prices
It was a big hotel, the rooms were spaceous and clean. The swimming pool outside didn't have any water in it.
Nice for family. Good outside and indoor swimming pools. Friendly staff. The staff was friendly, but we had the feeling that there is a shortage of staff, namely at the restaurant and bar. The children's room was not too clean.
Cleanliness, kindness of staff and hotel location. Due to the huge amount of guests, the breakfast service wasn't the best.
I loved the food, it was excellent . The wine also was very good i didn't like the service and the pool closed
location, historical building with renovated rooms Breakfast should definitely start at least at 7 in the morning. Having to wait on the door for breakfast until 8 is not ideal
Fabulous place-a dream would love to return
Nice hotel, recently refurbished, now with modern room amenities but having maintained the historical spirit of the public spaces It was empty ... no athmosphere. Probably only a few (less than 10, I would think) rooms occupied.
The hotel is fabulous and has a lot of potential but the inexperienced staff (or poorly trained) who do not pay attention to small details do not allow it to reach its full potential. The young lady on reception had NO customer service skills nor did the maitre D in the restaraunt. The food was good almost gourmet but the presentation, lack of vegetables and service down graded it. The champagne we ordered arrived in our room at 11.30
Beautiful palace, confortable rooms, good breakfast, very frienly personel
Its a nice and quiet hotel for a weekend retreat.
Imposing hotel which has kept many of its early 20C features but provides modern standards of comfort in rooms and spa. Hotel is obviously dependent on business conferences at this time of year (autumn). Pity the lido is no longer in use - perhaps seasonal?
The setting is extremely good and the project to refurbish the hotel has been a great success.
It's a very beautiful building, with lots of old details still visible. Dinner was a 5* experience, my compliments to the waiters and chef. The indoor swimming pool and spa facilities were very nice as the outdoor one was already closed when we stayed there. The wooden floors made it noisy; you could hear the upstairs neighbour walk around and you would hear people passing by in the hallway. The indoor spa facilities could be improved by providing things like scrub salt and turning on all the facilities (sauna) during opening hours. Dinner wasn't only a 5* experience in service, but unfortunately also in price, compared to regular portuguese restaurants.
Very friendly ,helfull ,english speaking staff.Prices of the bar.Central location.Godd price. cleanliness of the room -the sheets were changed ,but hoovering and bathroom cleaning was not the best. One day the room was not serviced.I stayed in the room facing the main street -the trafic noise was vey bad-couldnt keep window open.Hot in the room.
Closeness to train and bus stations. Good selection of places to eat at all price ranges. Easy access to most attractions. Beautiful views. Nice to have a reasonable resturant on site. Smoking rooms are a good idea. No complaints
Location No parking for free
You can park your car in the garage, the hotel is as well easy accessible (no small streets). Location is central to start your walking sightseeing tour. No fridge in the room.
The location of the hotel very close to the city center.
Very good hotel and staff with excellent buffet meals pillows
The employee who parked the car was very helpfull. The reception answered all our questions. After checking out, I could leave my car untill late in the afternoon. Breakfast is not included but there is a nice little restaurant across the street.
The valet parking and ease of use. Sadly no internet At the discount price
Excellent location, room was very clean and roomy. The plasma screen tv with acces to new released moves was a great bonus for nights to stay in. Great Faciities!! Loved staying there and would definately go back again.
large room/bath, reasonably clean and quiet, firm bed, good value for money reception friendly, but rather chaotic (trying to do three things at once); room rather dark and worn out (old carpet, etc); chair old and sagging; not so much ventilation; no electric outlet - need to unplug lamp to charge phone! breakfast room too crowded (nothing horribly bad, just lots of minor things)
Good staff Traffic noise all night
the hotels relaxing atmosphere
Friendly and service minded staff. Dated rooms with Ac not functioning. We had a room at the front and was very noisy with the city traffic. The rest of the familiy had a room a the back and that was ok.
Staff was helpful Poor maintenance generally
Perfect interior; very good breakfast; location close to the city centre. There internet access in the lobby was out-of-order
Services and staff
the charm; beautiful architecture; excellent cooking
Very professional.staff; big, comfortable room. Bar closes at midnight, and no room service after midnight. Difficult to understand in a 4-star hotel.
Everything:room, food, facilities, garden, etc
The hotel staff were very helpful, and the general ambiance was good. Set in lovely gardens , the hotel is like an old English county manor. The room was adequate, and had a large bathroom. Breakfast was good. This hotel is almost impossible to find without really really really good directions. The access roads are like spagetti junction. We had to hire a taxi to follow! The location of the hotel is a bit disappointing, especially true if you choose not to eat in .
Bautiful hotel and gardens. Nice pool and spa. Breakfast was excellent - good quality and selection. Gym was a bit basic.
The food is expensive, although very good
The history and the character of the building itself. It was refreshing to stay somewhere traditional rather than in a chain of hotels where everything is the same and you're not even sure which Country you are in!. The roaring fire in the bar and the excellent service (recommendations!) actually made our stay for us. It was a little complicated to find but then we discovered it was perfectly located to reach the main highways going south where we needed to be everyday. Also, the lack of choice in evening food wasn't good. We did use the Michelin star restaurant once which was nice, but we werent there on a special occasion so it was a little ott for our needs and overpriced for the actual standard of main meal - although the desserts were fabulous!.
Fiendliness and outstanding service. If we were to visit Coimbra again, we would stay at Quinta das Lagrimas. nothing, liked everything!!!
met good people certain charm authentically furnished for some reson great numbrer of older lovely folks came to spend time at the pool etc though they had nothing to do with hotel. part of the reason to stay there is fewer customers not more.look for better options
Rather unique place and great location in an old spa town. Fantastic breakfast . Pretty noisy when there were a number of other travellers.
The hotel was a very charming building, full of character and beautifully decorated, lovely setting and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.
The atmosphere and style is great. The room was very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Very quiet (only 3 rooms occupied). Overall, the best accommodation we had on our trip.
Great breakfast, beautiful house and decoration (if you like antics) Room was a bit outdated, no service all time around
Charming old style house with lots of character. Lovely sorroundings with a swiming pool. Great abundant breakfast. Highly recomended if you want a few days away from city noise. I would only recommend placing some shower curtains in the bathrooms.
the decoration was impressive, as was the building and the rooms. It is a luxury villa left by the owners with their stuff inside. It's a piece of luxurious history. The caretaker was absent late for check-in and generally the hotel seemed abandoned.
Very nice Guest House, typical with magnificent ancient decoration. Very clean and cosy. It is like a castle. My bedroom was big and the view over Luso was nice. Good breakfast for the price I paid. Because it is like an ancient castle, it hasn't elevator.
It was quirky full of old and interesting ornaments antiques and family photos. The hardest bed I have ever slept in. Apparently orthopaedic. The lady who attended to us spoke no english.
The breakfast is excellent! The guest house is very different from traditional hotels. The hotel fells more like an old house that your visiting, and you can feel the life that people lived there with photos and decoration .The hotel is very well situated just a few steps from buçaco, other gardins and near restaurants. we didn't like the fact that there is nobody from the staff at night. The light from the corridor reaches the rooms although dimmed.
The greatest value of the hotel is its location - 5 minutes from train station on foot and very near the centre of the city.
The staff was very helpful. Parking is right next door. Breakfast is good. Nice size bathroom. It was difficult to find. I used the navigator from there website and it brought us no where close to the hotel.
Location, clean, big space internet connection is terrible
Central location The bathroom was quite dirty
Nice 3 star. Clean. Central area.
The hotel was lovely, 3min walk into the centre, lots of nice restaurants close to the hotel. We were given a choice of rooms, the one we chose had a lovely balcony looking over to the town on the hill. Marco on reception was just lovely and always cheerful, polite and very helpful with advice on what to see and where to eat. There was a safe on site parking facility. The parking wasn't free for guests. No other problems at all it was a lovely place.
Great value for your money.
This hotel is about as much as you can get for the 3 star hotel. Very clean, excellent breakfast and service, very friendly staff, location near historical center, bus and train station... Just great!!
Size of room and excellent breakfast Not a complaint just a suggestion for tea/coffee making facilities in the room
The staff was excellent and the breakfasts were very good.
Great breakfast, clean rooms.
Location was quite nice Could replace old blanket with a newer one or even better, with an edredon. It would not hurt to have paper tissue available like most hotels. With the flu seasom peaking with would be nice to have it.
The Tryp Coimbra is definitely representative of the Sol Melia chain. A well balanced combination of luxury and fair price. The room was comfortable, very clean and well setup. Due to a confusion, we were initially assigned a room (a group of three adults) that had only two beds. The situation was immediately rectified without us having to return to the front desk. The staff was professional, friendly and capable, reflexive of the level one would expect from a hotel of this level. Only drawback I should warn is that a car or taxi is a must due to the location (I believe public transportation is also an alternative but not practical) if considering sightseeing places such as the university, city center, botanical garden, etc. Although it is not the hotel's fault, the location is not strategic for visiting Coimbra since one must have a car to get around from such location (in google maps it looks closer but because of the topography of Coimbra it is not in a location one would consider just walking from). However, the location is quite peaceful, safe and more PLEASENT than other hotels closer to the city center.
The dining room. The menu was extensive and varied, the food itself was excellent and the staff very efficient.
The hotel was in a poor position for the town, and it was our experience that the staff did not know the best places to visit in the town, but tried
It was one of the nicer hotels in Coimbra High internet charges. Staff reluctant or unable to provide specific information about facilities in the area
Very large hotel. Location is ok, however lots of business people stay there so would not recommend it for tourists who want to have a relaxed breakfast in the morning.
Very nice and comfortalbe room.
The location was a little bit far from the central, no free WiFi
a great location for a visit to Coimbra - breakfast was excellent and room very spacious and in extremely good decorative order,.
The original fixtures and fittings from when the hotel was built are still in place and give the building an old-world charm and (slightly faded) glamour.
The location, the view of the river, the antic furnitures The old carpet in the room
Location Loud music until 3-4am from two neighboring night clubs! We were on the 5th floor with close windows and still couldn't sleep. Older receptions staff required paperwork. No other hotels asked me for one.
Elegant breakfast room and wonderful view of the river.
We liked the location and the public areas of the hotel. The hotel must have been a gem in its hayday. Today, however, it is in need of a drastic overhaul. The rooms and hallways are dingy and warn. With a little bit of work it could be a wonderful place to stay. They do not have parking so we had to use a public lot across the street and had to refill the parking meter every few hours.
It was a convenient location from which to explore Coimbra.
It was very shabby, old and smelly. We had no hot water in our shower.
We had a corner room with a fantastic view. It was just a few steps away from the train station. The building itself is beautiful and is located right in front of the river.
Well located. Old fashion of the room with its pro and cons.
Perfect location in the middle of the city - close to railway station Coimbra A. Internet only in the lobby and on 1st floor (wireless)
The decor, the friendliness of the staff.
