Pros: We loved the overall aspect and location of the property, Sylvie has great taste and all the rooms and common areas are beautiful, but mainly what made our stay so great is that Sylvie is an incredible host. She took great care of us and advise us on various delicious restaurants and activities around. We had an incredible stay and will definitely come back. Also, Sylvie prepares the best breakfast !

Pros: Everything about our stay with Silvie and Mathieu in Martel was perfect. We were travelling from the UK to Spain and booked a variety of overnight stays, we were absolutely blown away by this one! There is nothing to fault and everything to praise. Even before arrival Silvie had booked us a table for dinner and sorted out dietary requirements with the restaurant. We were given a warm welcome on arrival with a friendly chat and a drink, all the rooms in the house were stunning and the attention to detail everywhere was fabulous, I wanted never to leave. Breakfast was typically French with fresh fruit, home made jams, crepes and more, delicious! We also fell in love with Martel and would like to return, we would definitely look forward to staying here again, possibly the nicest place we have ever stayed.

Pros: Our hostess Sylvie couldn't have been nicer. She made us feel at home and helped us plan our daily excursions. The home is beautifully decorated and has a delightful garden to enjoy a drink and snack in. Breakfasts were wonderful with homemade pastries and yogurt. Martel is a small, lovely, non touristy medieval village. It has a good selection of restaurants within easy walking distance and is centrally located for visiting many of the areas sites. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Pros: Second visit to the Chateau. Prior 3 years ago. New female owner lovely and very welcoming. Breakfast good although included in room cost on the previous visit. Room tidy and a good sleep.
Cons: Male owner not so welcoming, said hello but otherwise not wanting to engage in conversation. The opposite of his lovely wife. The once beautiful gardens are run down and in need of maintenance. The male owner needs to put some gardening clothes on and start trimming hedges. The chateau is beautiful but has lost the special feeling that brought us back for a second visit.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Meticulously kept grounds in a beautiful location overlooking the Lac du Causse, the Chateau itself is a wonderful medium that combines the old-world charm of a castle with modern amenities and chic decor. The surrounding attractions in the area, including Sarlat, Domme, Rocamadour, and Turenne were easily accessible, and close by was Brive, allowing for quick access to a larger town if you’re feeling a bit isolated. The property owners, along with their three beautiful children, welcomed us graciously and we were made to feel like family. If you’re searching for a getaway to Dordogne with the charm of a welcoming family yet still retaining the option for access to a large town with shops & restaurants, then this place is perfect. It certainly was for us.

Pros: A lovely location in a beautiful area of France. Our hosts were superb and very welcoming. The evening meal was delicious and good value for money. However the garden pool and general ambiance is totally chilled and enjoyable

Pros: En suite bathroom recently upgraded. Food reasonable. No alternatives in area.
Cons: Small bedroom - we asked for a bigger room on arrival. Told that booking.com ask for small rooms and upgrade would cost extra 10euros pr nght but altrntve rm not much bigger, noisy close to river and affected by kitchen smells & noise. Hotel has no lounge or proper bar area.

Cons: unfriendly staff, no wifi connection in the room, absolutely not soundproof room - we even heard our neighbours talking to each other, very disturbing
4.6 Okay
Pros: The listing photos really sell the property. Parking is available at a public car park across the road.
Cons: Reception was closed when we arrived at 4.30pm and the listed check-in time is 3-6pm. In the twin room and there is no space to separate the beds and you cannot stand next to one bed to get in it. We had to add a second room to our booking as the twin was unusably small. The service at dinner was very slow. We were not in a rush other than to get away from the hornets and horseflies. The twin room is on the second floor with no AC and unbearably hot.

Pros: The rooms were beautiful - very clean and spacious. The food was excellent.
Cons: A fan or airconditioning would have been welcome.
