You'll be by the sea with a stay at Pension TAITAA in Tubuai. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Nathalie and her husband are great cooks, and every dinner was a memorable event, made from fresh local food. Family style meals, so lots of conversation with the hosts and other guests!
Pros: The warmth and hospitality was exceptional and the efforts made to meet my vegetarian diet were deliciously received.
Pros: Family is nice, friendly, and take care of guests well. Good healthy food, many things from the garden, fish from the sea. Simple breakfasts with wonderful juice, coffee, tea, fresh bread, jams, and fruit, yogurt. Be prepared for ‘pension’ living as a guest of the family. Some English but this is outer French Polynesia (French and Polynesian spoken). No restaurants, rental cars, evening nightlife. Internet is available at no charge, but slow (very nice to have).
Cons: Bring all necessary meds, invest in mosquito coils if the season, sun/water protection, a couple of small markets to buy bottled water and perhaps lunch snacks - there is a ‘Snack’ building near the beach but was not open when here. Room is small, simple, very clean, nice bathroom/shower with hot water. The grounds of the pension filled with flowers, fruit trees and pretty. The geography, ancient sights, beaches, motu, all worth seeing. Children attend school here, later on Tahiti; there is a College on the island with approximately 90 students.
