The room was warm, clean and pleasant. The bathroom was huge with a heated towel rail. The evening meal was tasty and well cooked as was breakfast. Plenty of choice. The swimming pool was clean, well maintained and was a reasonable size. The staff were pleasant.
I requested two beds in the room. This had not been noted and on arrival I reiterated my request so the room was converted to two beds- consisting of a large double bed and an armchair that converted to a bed. I thought that being 5 ft 2 inches I could sleep on it. No- I kept hitting the frame. It is not suitable for an adult to sleep on. I didn't sleep. I did speak to the manager to voice my disappointment.
Location, relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff & lovely food. Also we were really appreciative of the having a Gideon Bible in each of our rooms.
We were satisfied with all the facilities. Thank you.
The grounds of the castle were stunning and there was plenty of free parking outside - it's just a shame that we didn't get to actually stay in the castle hotel itself :-( ! We checked in and were then shown to the old servants quarters up the road :-( ! This is not was I was expecting - false advertising, I would call it!
I felt cheated because I booked a room in a castle and was given a rather shabby little room in the former servants quarters (see photo) :-( . This was not what was advertised! That said, the building away from the castle was fairly quiet, although it did smell bad and the bathroom was quite dirty and tatty. To get to breakfast in the main building, I had to get fully dressed and walk through the rain. Once in the breakfast hall, both the food and the service were verging on appalling and I wished that I had just stayed in bed. I couldn't eat the food (the sausages tasted off to me) and ended up throwing most of it away. The single room prices are always cheap at this hotel ... for a reason - you get what you pay for!!! Don't be fooled by the photos on the website - this is a very basic, shabby and not very well run establishment. Of course, if you pay for a room for two (or more), you might end up in the castle part of the hotel and things might be a tad better (although I wouldn't book here again on the off-chance). Never again :-( .
The location and views were excellent
most of the staff were fairly glum, with two exceptions who were very friendly
Great location, comfy room, loved the swimming pool
