The Palacio de Mengibar is an excellent hotel, with great facilities (especially the spa) and wonderful food. It was a bit quiet when we were there but it had only been open 3 months.
A superb and beautiful hotel, especially given how little we paid for a night's stay. The Roman/Arab baths were particularily delight and entirely free. The one major problem was that they were obviously not able to open restaurant either because of a lack of custom or staff. However, the town is a lovely place and we could not have enjoyed our stay in Mengibar more. Nothing
We loved the atmosphere and the way the place looked. Very comfortable and really added a golden touch to a romantic weekend. The breakfast on Monday morning was in the hotel bar instead of the restaurant and instead of the wonderful buffet we had had the day before we were served a standard breakfast at our table. Granted, you could ask and change things you did not like, but it gave a bad impression that most things were not availabe like the day before.
How they had blended the architecture of the Castle with a new modern look. The Hotel Staff was extremely friendly and helped in all ways. The only minor issue is the parking space. I stayed there in August which is considered low season and there were only around 15 parking spaces in total and 2-3 free.
Very attractive historical setting. Wonderful spa facilities. We could not book a table for dinner for the evening we arrived. The town has a very small number of restaurants, in fact the hotel could not recommend any good ones that were in walking distance.
The hotel was outstanding. Beautifully restored and decorated combining 15th century origins with a luxurious elegance. One of nicest I have stayed in and far better value than the Paradors. Sadly the stay was spoilt by the smell from the Smurfitt Kapper (sic) incinerator that was positioned about a mile away but the stench was terrible when outside or having the windows open and it ruined a perfect hotel stay
Areally wonderful building with excellent facilities The restaurant could have been better
The building itself is stunning, the spa very relaxing, the four poster bed was the most comfortable bed we slept in during a 2 week vacation in Spain and the room and bathroom very nicely set up. Its in the middle of nowhere
Very beautiful old building, fantastic bedrooms, very peaceful.loved it. Restaurent was only open at weekends. some food was available in bar
The building and spa are fabulous mengibar is not a big tourist town so don't go there expecting to stroll around and find lots of easy to access resturants/shops etc. If you want to stay in a castle and have access to a spa to use Palacio de Mengibar is for you
Convenience to the city of Jaen. We traveled through southern Spain and wanted to see Jaen. Parking was abundant and getting to town very easy. Being Americans who speak barely any spanish we found the staff most helpful in our endeavors. Beautiful surroundings and right on the highway. Hall carpeting rather worn...wish they had just tiled the hallways and it would look like a brand new hotel.
Facilities in general. Good Car Parking.
Easy to find, your directions very good
The breakfast was amazing, hotel upscale, reminded me of a Crown Plaza. The internet was not free, it was something like 12 Euro's for 24 hours.
Location next to motorway was very conveniant for our needs. Lovely room, clean and well maintained. bar food was good at a reasonable price. Good breakfast. A little out of town but very handy for the motorway. all in all a very good hotel. No
spacious rooms, little balcony with mountain view. Good price value for t Hotel seems unorganized in every department: Breakfast room too small and looks very cold. Staff absolutely overstrained at breakfast and reception. Hotel was full and only one employee at reception. Did send other guests to the same room where we stayed. Restaurants in the hotel are not worth a comment. We had better two stars hotels than this four star hotel
Breakfast great and the outside pool
Very comfortable and convenient American-style hotel for a stop-over break.
This parador is an ancient fortress - a fantastic place to stay and to explore. The guests must feel like coming back a couple of centuries. Internet was not available in the room. The wi-fi could be found just in the guest hall.
Spectacular location out of the city lack of outdoor seating areas
The setting is absolutely stunning and the facilities too. The staff were very welcoming and the reataurant is excellent.
The view is fantastic, the food is wonderful
beautifully located, great room with terrace and terrific views. we were disappointed in the dinner, the food wasn't that good for the price they asked and the service in diningroom could have been better.
The stunning views and also the restaurant The lights in the bedroom, Room 8, were a disgrace, none of them worked independatly, and during the night a visit to the bathroom resulted in almost all of the room lights lighting, it was a nuisance. When reporeted we were advised that staff knew about the problem, but were unable to rectify it, not what you would expect from an otherwise great hotel.
Excellent room, bright and spacious with large terrace and terrific views over the city. Something for everyone at breakfast.
Superb location high above Jaen beside interesting old castle. Beautiful views from our balcony. Excellent restaurant with very good cuisine. We had arranged for an extra bed to accommodate 3 adults (myself plus my brother and his wife). The hotel provided a small metal "put -you-up" really only suitable for a child and only installed it on request. Pity - everything else was fine.
Amazing experience. View was incredible, room had a balcony that looked out into the mountains and transported you to a different time.... just amazing!
Real castle on top of a mountain with spectacular views from bedroom balcony, and many other points. Great pool, friendly staff, and some really grand dining and reception rooms. Bathroom was clean and functional but in need of update
For value ratio- excellent offering. Rooms well decorated ,bright and ,generous size Majot road reconstruction outside hotel
Clean tidy hotel and staff were friendly. Suffering presently from a lot of road and civil works blocking off the major part of the hotels surrounds. The air conditioning did not cope with hot days. The small swimming pool was full of plant life and suprisingly no staff cleared it out for guests. The bar closed at 23.00 when the rest of Jaen was just waking up!
Excellent, spacious, impeccably clean room, friendly staff.
The room was really lovely. I appreciated the balcony and the decor. The bathroom amenities were of high quality. I chose this hotel because of the pool, but in fact the water was very dirty. There were a lot of large dead insects floating on the surface, and there was other hairy stuff that I could not identify near the bottom. As a result, I only had a quick dip rather than a relaxing swim. Normally I find that pools in Spain are well maintained in July but it was not the case here.
Such a pleasant experience after a very long plane and car ride-Frederico our waiter in the restaurant was such a trooper trying to bridge the language barrier when ordering dinner. The hotel is deceiving from the outside-so beautiful in side with all it's hidden terraces and the rooms were very well appointed.
From entering the Hotel to leaving the staff were very friendly, helpful, could'nt do enough for you. It was very nicely decorated, they have a glass lift that shows the town, the room was delightful, the restaurant excellent. Lovely open space conservatory to sit and have a drink. Most of all were the excellent tapas that you were given free with a drink and the prices were very reasonable seeing as you were in City Hotel. Would definately go again to the Hotel Santiago. Nothing. It was lovely we picked the best Hotel in Linares.
I like the beds. They were quite comfortable. Nice presentation, clean, organized. Welcoming fruit basket was a nice touch, too bad we were too tired to eat any of it! Good breakfast selection, nice and helpful staff.
Spacious accommodation; nice bar atmosphere (mind you it was Real Madrid vs Milan on the telly) and excellent food. Nice touch to have a basket of fruit waiting you on arrival.
The breakfast was fantastic! Just the pillow was not confortable enough
Lift down to garage ,close to all shopping and only 10 minutes to only golf course in Jaen.
Excellent breakfast, great peaceful location in a city, clean rooms.
Good value for money + very courteous staff. Good buffet breakfast and secure parking. Good size room, bed and bathroom.
My wife and I stayed only one night in this hotel. Its fine central location meant we were in the heart of Linares. Breakfast was well laid out and plentiful with fresh food to suit all tastes. There were many good bars within easy walking distance - just remember that when you are asked what 'tapa' or 'tapita' you want to have with your drink in the bars you choose from the menu and you don't pay anything extra for it. We had no issues and no problems with the hotel, the facilities, the location or the staff. We would be happy to use the same hotel again.
Somewhat centrally located to the places we wanted to travel to. We stayed on a Friday night. The walls are so thin that we could hear the person in the room next to us coughing. There were about 15 kids on the street corner from about 11 pm to 3 am and you could hear every word they said. Plus all of there yelling and screaming and racing their mopeds/motorbikes up and down the street all night long. I probably got 3 hours sleep that night. Luckily it was only one night. Plus the tub had hair in the drain...
Location in Balien
We had a bath with waterjets. Hotel is nearby a busy road, very noisy. The room is outdated and the carpet in the hall needs to be renewed ! No free parking.
Easy to find location Bed was really uncomfortable. Hotel needs some updating. It is cheap so don't expect much!
No tapas or food in the bar. Only expensive restaurant.
Room was warm and comfortable, hotel was easy to find and well located breakfast was poor
We stayed only 1 night, we do not have any special comments no
Convenient over-night stop Hotel was OK, environment less so
there is free parking
Once again enjoyed our stay. The room with a terrace and coffee table was very good. The normal recommendations for the hotel. Fot the first time a problem with evening meal. As normal the Spanish custom of not opening the restaurant until 21.00. We wanted an early start in the morning and wanted and early night. Thanks to Juan who cooked us a quick bar meal we were able to get the early night. Other nationalities were complaining about the late opening.
Everything! Helpful staff, lovelylocation. Music in the grounds. Spacious accomodation. Even a bed for our little dog! None.
the evening meal (menu of the day) was very good the service was ok and it was worth what we paid the breakfast was very poor the rooms where 1970s and in need of up date the shower head did ent work the location was poor we walked up into the town nothing there
very nice lay out easy to find very comfortable and clean staff very curtious and helpful music on load speakers was a little to loud
Matresses and bed linens very poor
The motel was like an oasis in the desert. The town itself is dusty and run down, but the hotel was in green gardens with fountains and finished to a high standard.
The breakfast was very poor (orange, coffee, toast and jam)
Relaxing on our trip from northern Spain (Rioja) to Andalusia(Almeria) as we have done many times at El Salvador. The location is an ideal stopping point for us. We have a well behaved dog which is excluded from the Paradors. If I could venture a small criticism it is that you no longer have rugs on the bedroom tiled floor.
On check in the price advertised on Booking.com wasn't the price asked for by the receptionist. After some debate the booking.com price was accepted. But this isn't the first time this has happened when booking through this site.
restaurant not open ,so had to eat in bar which was full of old men smoking cigars
