Very centrally placed. Comfortable. Pleasant and helpful staff.Enjoyed our stay very much Nothing to dislike in this hotel
The room was quite clean and comfortable. The hotel has a nice location within walking distance to the Sassi and a garage was available (even though not included in the room price). Breakfast was good. Staff was polite, but not always very helpful.
Everything from service to atmosphere to food to location were perfect. This hotel is a gem.
Localtion in the old area (Sassi) was 'authentic'. Hotel was 'sympathetic to its surroundings Difficult to find without a GPS or good map of the area. The hotle should provide team and coffee making facilities in the rooms
Excellent staff, location and rooms. Nothing too much trouble. Wlaking distance to many cheap but high quality restaurants. No
Quite unique. Good breakfast and friendly staff
Beautiful room carved out of the tufi stones, with a view out over the sassi. Hotel was well-integrated into the sassi neighborhood overall. Liked the indoor pool (where I could do laps, as no one else was there- it was longer than was clear in the picture). Friendly, kind staff. Matera was easily one of the most remarkable towns we have stayed in in Italy. Breakfast was served in an interesting room but could have been more creative. Very difficult to find the hotel via a GPS. I suspect the hotel's directions were more straightforward. There were only 2 ways into the sassi area by car, and you could only park briefly near the hotel, though the walk to the free car parks was not bad.
It was in an amazing location and actually was beautifully carved out of the environment. The pool and sauna were a wonderful touch. The staff was friendly and helpful. All good.
Extremely unique setting in the caves. Worth the trip to find. Excellent breakfast and helpful staff. Truly one of a kind. No
It was cold and began to rain shortly after we arrived. The pool and spa was a welcome retreat from the nasty weather! We liked the ambiance of the room, built into the stone walls of the city, but comfortable, warm, and well lit. The breakfast buffet was excellent. I was happy to pay for the valet parking because driving in Matera was difficult to negotiate. The instructions (in English) for driving to the hotel were not clear. I also wish there had been a covered walkway from our room to where the elevator was; although I realize it would be very difficult to accomplish this.
Unique rooms and thermal pool. My room was comfortable, quiet, and surprisingly spacious. Good location for visiting both the sassi and the city. Hotel offers a pick-up and delivery service for your car (and it gets parked in a secure garage), worth the small fee since driving around is not so easy. Breakfast room too small and crowded. This could be avoided by putting a couple of tables in the large room next to it. All tables were already full at 8:15.
Staff were lovely
Hotel is centrally located and has a great overall ambiance. The modern decor juxtaposed with the ancient setting really works and it is very charming Services and staff are not at 5 star level and not ready for "the big time." 98% of the hotel is amazing but the other 2% are vexing and frustrating. There is no porter service of any value --we had to lug our own bags to our room-- the hot water was scalding hot and could not be changed, and there were no Kleenex in the bathroom. Directions to dinner were flat out wrong, and the service in general was distant and cold. The "attitude" type hotel should be met with flawless service and standards. In this case it was just odd and out of place.
very clean rooms, most delicious design, beautiful location no free swimming-pool
Staff and unique ambiance It was really hard to find our room, and our key did not always work. Also, they had trouble making up the room within the six hours we gave them.
Very kind hotel staff and a nice room for breakfast. Very good location but a bit difficult to find a way (access) to the hotel by car.
An incredible and romantic experience that is unique and not reproducible elsewhere. Francesco and the staff were very helpful and made our stay memorable. This is a green hotel...they are preserving a bit of world culture and heritage. Don't pass this up for a stay.
the rooms are well eqiped, clean and maintained. the staff is friendly and willind to help. it is not a walking distance from the center.
The staff gave us good and friendly services. When we arrived at the hotel, the restaurant in the hotel had already closed. However, the staff gave us the information about a good restaurant in the town instead. And we were satisfied with the restaurant he recommended. The room was wide with comfortable accommodation. Since there are many signs of the hotel in the town, it was easy for us to look for the hotel. If visitors are using their car, the hotel is of choice. The breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel was good. One of difficulty we felt was that the waiter looked busy. And it was too late to ask us orders for drinks (cappuccino) as well as to come to our table. If possible, it will be better to add one more staff for help.
Great attention to detail. Excellent breakfast. Easy to find and convenient to centro storico.
Staff pleasant and helpful, location good Air conditioning does not work well and is ineffective (important factor when it was 37 deg. C.). Room furnishings a bit tired and dated
Room Breakfest was quite poor - only paistry, no eggs or meet offered
quiet and clean; good location related to price for a 4 stars hotel.good place to visit "i sassi" but you must have a car cold
Friendly staff. Secure parking. A reasonable walking distance from the Matera sights. No staffing during afternoons and over night. Strangely renovated from a 19th century property with a 21st century interior. Now crowded by blocks of flats on all sides which restrict views from the bedrooms; though the garden views from the breakfast room at ground floor were very private due to high, surrounding hedges.
We received a very warm welcome at the reception desk and the room was very comfortable and pleasant to stay in. The woman at the desk gave us good recommendations re dinner and sightseeing. The hotel is in a residential neighborhood but accessible by foot to the main attractions in town. Not suitable for people with disabilities as there is a steep staircase leading into the reception and rooms. No elevator.
Interesting and comfortable hotel. Quite good location
We got lost even with a GPS but the lady working the desk came and got us and showed us the way to the Hotel. Incredible act of kindness. Only thing I thought was that the room I stayed in upstairs was not so soundproof. Also, if you are on the side of the road, with the windows open it can be a little loud. Would like to go again and get a room away from the road and get to use the pool, looks wonderfu.
staff, breakfast, hotel finishes location, although a very good view from the window
the warm welcome and the great decor
Friendly, stylish in an individualistic way.
Ridola's owners were very friendly and helpful. The professionally designed rooms and articles in them are all attractive and well chosen.A beautiful private pool is constantly filtered. A very nice breakfast was laid out in a pretty, bright room with many windows with an attentive young woman to fetch cappuccini.Secure parking was appreciated too. We could easily walk to the pedestrian area.
Very nice hotel with a nice atmosphere
Very special room, in the rocks. Very modern and new. Fantastic position, right at the edge of the old city wall, facing the "canyon".Nice breakfast. Not easy to find. Best is to call the hotel and someone will lead you to the hotel.
Our stay at the Basiliani was wonderful. It was very clean and comfortable. The room was large, the bath was nice, the breakfast excellent and the service awesome. Matera is an extremely interesting place to visit. We highly recommend the area and this hotel
Really friendly helpful staff. Fantastic location right in centre of the Matera Sassi.
Amazing staff, huge rooms and lovely view make for a perfect hotel!
Best location ever - perfect desgign & very helpful staff. n/a
The staff were very accomodating and friendly. Breakfast very good. The room (n. 5) was very characteristic: built directly in the rock (for this reason very charming but just a little bit damp), large and just like new.
Really cute room with a view.
The location within the sassi is great. There was mold in the shower/bath that should have been removed with just a little bleach. Otherwise the room was clean.
Very hospitable owner/operators. Nice welcome lunch with drinks at no charge.
It was really fun to stay on the side of the hill in the heart of the sassi. The room was clean and the view from our front door was amazing. The room was a little sparse. It would have been nice to have a chair to sit in inside our room. Small inconvenience.
We liked everything about our stay. This is an amazing place, great location, staff, food, etc
Very convenient for visiting the sassa's room was moldy
very clean, attentive staff, nice breakfast, free parking hard to find
Everything fantastic, especially the staff.
the room was wonderful: large, very clean and just like new: owner and staff were very accomodating and friendly; breakfast good. Very small hotel, perfect in every way
The staff were very friendly and helpful. n/a
The room and the view from the hotel were significant and impressive! Room was clean and staffs were friendly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurtant was rich and gorgeous. Nothing.
all, excellent design, unique location and environment restaurant is not cheap
Breakfast was great Poor service, damp hotel rooms, very rocky walkway slipery walkways slipery showers never again
Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
Location, uniqueness of design, high level of service
The location is great. The room was big and according to the town. Breakfast was delicious, with a lot of selections for everyone. Internet worked perfectly. For the price I was expecting a bathtube, not just a shower.
It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good. Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.
Interesting, excellent standard of accommodation, great setting and area. 2 power cuts which we had to tell the hotel about rather than them telling us.
helpfull staff Not 4 star standart though have to admitt that having hotel rooms in very old dwellings/caves have limits
beautiful views and position. Really bad breakfast - cold and took minimum 25 minutes to get a coffee as the girl had to run a down 2 huge flights of stairs to get it (poor thing). The 'signora' at front desk burst into my room without knocking when I was in bed and was really unpleasant about it. She also would not believe me when I said my TV was not working. She said 'How come the TV's work in every room but not yours?'
Excelent. Value for money. We had the most wonderful room. The staff is very qualified and helpful. The hotel is just perfect! Hard to find even using a GPS. At least we had to phone the hotel and appointed a place where they could find us and bring us to this wonderful hotel.
Fantastic location with amazing views. Helpful staff, fascinating building and a real sense of being part of something historical.
Internet didn't work well
Staff on reception extremely helpful. Location very good - parking no problem and a pleasant stroll then into Matera centre. We were staying during August when the hotel seemed virtually shut down. We did manage to get a drink from the bar one evening, but they clearly were not anticipating customers. The dining room at breakfast was rather depressing - so quiet and empty.
First of all hotel's staff very kind, at any occasion ready to be on guests service. Approach to hotel is a bit complicate by car. Expected a little more from buffet breakfast.
The room was spacious We asked for non smoking - however room was used by smokers. When told staff - they said nothing could be done. As we were there only one night I did not persue the matter further
Parking facility with a hotel relatively close to the city centre facilities. Very comfortable and welcoming. In hotel during peak weeks in August and some facilities, such as the evening restaurant, "not available for the Ferragosto period"
Everything was excellent :D
Best hotel in my entire trip for two weeks. Staff are very friendly. It could be a little bit pricey, but the dinner is comparatively inexpensive for hotel like this
Everything was new, nice, clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful. They gave us a good map and useful itinerary tips for visiting the amazing "Sassi". They even recommended us an excellent restaurant there. The hotel is on the main road coming from Bari and if you don't know the town is the best place to just stop, drop your car off in their covered parking and enjoy walking in the town. It's only 10min walk on the same road to the historic centre.
Everything was perfect!
good price, nice breakfast, quiet, available parking area, friendly staff
