Pros: LOVED this Quinta! Initially we planned to stay near Pinhao, but so glad we changed our plans. The house had a wonderful view over the vineyards, and a beautiful deck to sit out and enjoy the scenery. The house was clean and very spacious, and the host was so kind. She showed us around the property and gave us a personal wine tasting. We enjoyed walking thru the vineyards and into the town of Provesende. Passed a beautiful cemetery along the way. It was just a perfect stay. If you are lucky enough to have this property available, don’t hesitate to book it. You will love it!
Cons: Liked everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was truly amazing, one of the best experiences I've had. We had the whole house for ourselves, they lighted the fireplace for us for dinner, and also in the morning during breakfast. The breakfast was fantastic, all home-made products they produce themselves. They are very attentive and available. They guided us through the wine museum they have in the property, and took us walking through the vineyards. Also, all domestic animals are welcome! I will absolutely have to repeat!
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like.

Pros: Elisabete is a seriously good host; nothing is too much trouble. We visited for a friend's wedding & neither of us drive, but she went out of the way to help us explore the region and even drove us down to Regua several times. The in-house picnic is delish and definitely recommended - there are lots of beautiful spots for picnicking on the quinta. We stayed 7 nights and were not ready to leave!!

Pros: Quinta do Fojo is a magically beautiful place inside and out. Elisabete is such a kind and helpful host! She gave great suggestions for sightseeing and dining. The shared bathroom wasn’t a problem at all and it was very clean. Breakfast was hearty and delicious with fresh baked bread, cheeses, jams, fruit, and other baked goods. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a breathtaking view. The pool and other outdoor spaces were gorgeous, and wine tasting in the cellar is recommended. We had such a relaxing and wonderful stay...the best of our ten day trip.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Six Senses is simply spectacular - from the location in the Douro with amazing surrounding vineyards to the facility, the staff, food and wine. It simply is "Six Stars"! Considering all elements the value actually is quite good. We have stayed at 4 Seasons and Ritz Carlton and the like all over the world. All of them were wonderful, but value based on price is actually better at Six Senses Douro.
Cons: Almost nothing. The only negative comment is that their wine prices are a bit high for the area. After going to a number of Quintas and seeing prices even at their high end restaurants, we felt 6 Senses is marking up a bit too much for the area.

Pros: Beauty of location ,we had views of the river and vineyards. An outstanding facility that has the best of both worlds, beautiful historical building, completely renovated inside with a wonderful contemporary and artistic feel. There are so many spaces to enjoy inside and out! The spa treatments, and staff were excellent. The Six Senses staff did everything they could do make our stay enjoyable and memorable. Our only regret, is the we could not stay longer.
Cons: The main dining room, was the the one option to dine in during week days, the other, more interesting options are open only on weekends. The food was not up to the facility, expensive, and service was not consistent.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a very beautiful place.
Cons: The breakfast was very simple, with few varieties.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We thought the Quinta was really high quality! We stay in A LOT of hotels and were impressed by the big and small attention to details. From the Angela's hospitality (truly great!), to the comfortable bed, high-end bathroom, beautiful views from our room -- it was really wonderful! We want to come back with friends some day. We chose to do the full dinner at the hotel (really, you are going to be hard pressed to have dinner anywhere besides the hotel because driving is dangerous at night) -- and it was a great experience! We had the steak and goat entrees that come with appetizers, soup, salad, a bottle of wine, and dessert. Really good, attentive service. And the hotel has lots of spaces to just sit and relax on sofas by fireplaces, so you really feel the quinta is your home and you don't have to stay pent up in your room.
Cons: It was a great place, highly recommend.

Pros: One of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful, peaceful location! Anna was very helpful planning local outings.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When the gate to casa anzenha opened we entered a Portugese fairy tale! It was even more beautiful than we hoped. The big and lush garden is lovely to walk through or sit in. It is full of flowers, tropical plants, orange and other fruit trees, little romantic seats, fountains, candle lit lanterns at night, views over the vineyards and not to forget there's a great pool, on one side deep enough to dive. The interior, the furniture of the rooms is so tasteful with antiques mixed with bright colors, we got inspired by it! The new ac was a nice surprise for us, it worked really well. We only had to switch it on briefly to have a nicely chilled room for the entire night. The beds are made and the bins emptied every day by very nice people. And then there's Anna, a dream host! She makes sure her guests have absolutely everything they need, from making reservations for boats or restaurants to finding swimming spots. She has a good sense of humour. The owner welcomed us late at night. She is very friendly too, told us a bit about the history of Casa Azenha (how it has been in the family of her husband for 400 years) and checks regularly if all is good and she came by with glasses of port. We could feel the love of the people of Casa Azenha everywhere: they look after their beautiful place and their guests so well! Breakfast is served outside on a large table where with the other guests, which is a nice way to talk to other guests. One day it rained and we were welcomed in the main house in a beautiful palace-like diner room. Casa Azenha is small scale and that gives it a wonderful homely feel. It was a magical week, thank you so much!
Cons: The only thing we did not like was that we had to leave...:-)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Superb breakfast at table in beautiful garden
Cons: Would like to have stayed longer if we had time

Pros: We were welcomed by Ana with some fresh homemade lemonade and some tips of which Quintas to visit in the region. The breakfast was fresh and delicious and you could order picnics to take walking with you around the vineyard or out with you when exploring the Douro. We booked an extra night within the first half an hour, we loved it so much.
Cons: Everything was great.

Pros: Thank you Churchills our stay was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the intimate setting with spectacular views, the high end accommodation and spaciousness of the Quinta, the attention to detail, & a staff who went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience for us. Thank you to the front line staff...Tiago, Katerina, Teresa, & Arno as well as the lovely ladies who prepared the incredible breakfasts and dinners for us. Thanks too to the housekeeping staff who always greeted us with warm smiles. Witnessing the harvest and joining in the treading of the grapes was unforgettable. The 4 course dinners and excellent accompanying wine pairings were amazing. We so enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace after dinner, chatting, and laughing with other guests which in our case were a young couple from Montreal and another from the US. Should you prefer privacy there were many intimate areas to relax both inside and out. Waking up every morning and opening the bedroom shutters to see the spectacular view of the terraced vineyards and Douro river was like nothing I had ever experienced before. Also, the infinity pool was awesome and provided many incredible photo ops even if a wee bit chilly in late September:) This Quinta is an oasis in the Douro and our 3 night stay here was the highlight of our 3 week holiday to Portugal. I highly recommend!!!!
Cons: The only negative I could comment on is that the drive to get to the Quinta once you leave the highway might be a bit challenging to some drivers. However... Do not let it deter you from staying at this incredible Quinta! Just be aware that the road is narrow and sometimes might require backing up to let oncoming traffic pass. We personally did not have a problem with this even though we visited during the busy harvest season. The drive from the highway is only a few km and only adds to the Quinta’s charm.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I like the comfy beds, the ambience, the scenery and the service. Food and wine are very good.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breathtaking location. Modern and luxurious but retains charm of original Quinta. Stunning infinity pool looking over the valley. Great home cooking which we found to be excellent value too - 3 course meal with wine pairings for €40!! Lovely cosy atmosphere and great hospitality. The dining set up is unusual in that you eat with the other guests around a table that seats 8. But it makes for a home from home / house party feeling and we met some fantastic people whilst we were there.
Cons: The drive is a bit challenging but an adventure... and you wouldn’t get the same views or experience from a property that is easier to access. Totally worth it in our opinion. Just try to arrive in daylight or in time for sundowners on the terrace.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quinta da Gricha is located in such a beautiful spot in the Douro, it seems unreal. The house is great - very welcoming and wonderful terrace for the views. Teresa, Arno and Katerina are doing a fabulous job, making everything so easy for us. Spending the day with Miru and Kika, the two lovely dogs, was an added bonus! The food was incredible with lovely wine and port to match. Really beautiful breakfast spread in the dining room. Fresh bread to die for and I loved the bolo de coco so much! I loved everything! We'll be back as soon as we can!
Cons: Only staying for two nights!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: View, food, design/furnishings.
Cons: Getting there is... interesting.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Small but well kitted out house in pretty wine village. Enjoyed the vineyard tour the host organised very much.
Cons: The church bells ringing all through the night ..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. This place is nice and well equipped. It is a blast to be on tiny streets with locals all around.
Cons: This place was fantastic in the tiny village of Barcos. Everything was great, including the bottle of Port waiting for us and the locals. The only negative is that the local priest, who doesn't live in the village has decided that the ancient church needs to play electronic music and bells every 30 minutes, 24 hrs a day. You need ear plugs. This was our favorite place so far on our trip.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: They organised a visit in one of the quinta nearby, which was a great add-on to our trip.
Cons: Nothing to do with the property but the street are very narrow in the village where the accomodation is located. So a smaller car is recommended.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Old village shifted back in time and forgotten by the world. Very characteristic for Douro valley with arounded vineyards. Betefull views and oryginal villages. All nice comforts in apartment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is real Portugal! Tiny village, narrow streets, people going about doing daily chores! The apartment is fantastic! We should have booked for a weekend! Our hosts were a delightful couple with local knowledge. It really was a “refuge”! Hundred year old house with renovated interior, exceptional work! Gift of lemons from family garden, Port wine to sample from family vines and good tip for eating out in Tabuaço. Truly a real gem of a place. Highly recommend!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Barcos is situated high up the Douro and it was lovely to arrive (finally) in the 10 century village. We had a warm welcome by Marcia and her friend. The apartment is well contained and you want for nothing, everything is there if you wish to cook. Locally there are two small supermarkets and a bakery. We did a morning trip to Pinhao for a one hour river cruise and we’re back by 2pm to walk to the family winery for a fabulous tour, hosted by Jose. What a memorable experience. Thank you Jose.
Cons: As with all quaint villages there is a church. This local one had four megaphones on its roof and every 30 minutes, DAY and NIGHT the megaphones ‘chime’ bells.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place! Clean, cozy apartment in the middle of Barcos. We had a chance to take a part in annual local celebration. Highly reccomended!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is unbeatable, very special remote village. House itself has this very old spirit, but still with modern facilities. Our stay was very comfortable, from using kitchen, bathroom to sleeping in a bed. Hosts are super friendly and helpful. We felt very welcomed.
Cons: It would take really picky person to find something not to like here :) Too bad we had time only for one night!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and welcoming hosts, the whole Family really. The appartement is very nice and well equiped, good internet connection, too. We would have loved to have more time to do the wine tasting offered by the host.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: If you are not used to the bells ring fron the chearch every half an hour it can be noisy at night .

Pros: Excellent location. Great views.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Lovely room and views and good breakfast
Cons: The staff were not welcoming
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room with a great river view.
7.9 Good
Pros: The property owner was very friendly although he speaks only Portuguese. Breakfast was delicious
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We spent 2 nights here and would have loved more. The owner was very helpful with what to see and suggestions of which wineries to visit in the area. The Quinta is beautifully decorated & furnished with large lounge areas. Our room was comfy with an fabulous view over the river Douro. A plentiful breakfast is served with homemade produce. Although the owners had limited English & we couldn't speak Portuguese my husband was able to communicate in French. Highly recommended.
Cons: Finding the house was a little difficult at first through a small village with narrow streets & we missed the last sign which was on the side wall. Turning around was a challenge, but worth the effort! Not having time to use the swimming pool.
7.0 Good
Pros: our bedroom window looked out onto a scene of rural tranquility and the duoro river; a place to get away from it. nearby are good-to-great restaurants and an outstanding vineyard and tasting room (quinta do tedo).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner of the Qunita is welcoming each guest nicely and is very helpful. Nice is as well that breakfast is in the family kitchen on one big table with all hotel guests, thsu you get to know some persons during your trip. Our room was nicely decorated (roses behind the bed on the wall) and had an breathtaking view to the river and the Douro valleys. The most excisting was that the owner invited the guests to produce wine by stepping on the grapes.
Cons: Driving up to the Quinta is in narrow streets, but at least the way is short, well marked with signs and on the evenings there is enough light.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good countryside hotel in a very nice region with a tremendous view to Douro river. The owners are very kind and are there always to help. The breakfast was served in the kitchen owners and was delicious. If you want to rest, you must choose this countryside hotel because you will only hear the birds in the morning. The hotel have a covered place to park at least 6 cars. Quinta da Azenha is higly recomended!
7.0 Good
Pros: We stayed in 9 hotels in Portugal. This is the most excellent one. The host is genuinely nice, not just being commercial. He has his own cellar making port. We were offered unlimited amount of welcome drinks (home made port). Although we did not had dinner at the hotel, we were offered some soup, dessert, wine and dessert free. The house is nicely decorated in a traditional Portugal style. The location is incredible with a fantastic view of the river. It is like traveling back in time to a quite Portugal village for a very authentic experience.
Cons: Not near any big city. You have got to drive. No internet - a blessing if you want a real break!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel family were very hospitable, the location is good for the Douro region.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is the best place of stay during our 14-days trip in Portugal. We have never stayed in the 600-years old house, we have never drunk such a tasty port wine made by the owner, and we have never met such hospitable owners. Damien and Louise very good speak French. They can provide you with all necessary information. And what delicious baked pudding and egg desert have been prepared by Louse. This is a calm and quiet place for a rest; there are magnificent views to the river and vineyards. The hotel is well-equipped cozy and comfortable. There are direction signs to the hotel on the road. The best way to come is to turn on the second second sign (from the side of Regua). The parking area is enough for 6 cars.
Cons: The field for comments above is too small for all my opinion about the hotel
