Il Tanaceto - Castiglione di Sicilia - Building
2
9.5 Excellent (175 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Castiglione di Sicilia, Il Tanaceto is in a regional park, within a 10-minute drive of Cuba of Santa Domenica and Castle of Robert Lauria. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great hosts. Very helpful and informative. Clear instructions on how to get there. Quiet, peaceful location. Friendly, homely place.
6.7 Good
Pros: Stunning location with amazing surrounding countryside. Waking up to a view of Enta smoking out of the bedroom window felt quite a unique experience. Lovely homemade food. Helpful owners.
Cons: If you are a middle aged or older couple that loves walking, peace and quiet and good food and basic accommodation then you’ll probably love it like a lot of other reviewers. We stayed for 2 nights as part of a 5night visit to Sicily. We had two teenagers (daughter +friend) who didn’t appreciate the lack of entertainment (if you exclude Wi-fi) or all the food. Family room didn’t really work for us as no separate entrance for each room. Lack of welcoming common room space to relax, read, play games etc. Pretty basic rooms - beds were very hard. We had booked for 3 nights but decided 2 was better for our situation. Wasn’t really happy at having to pay 50% (after negotiation) for the 3rd night we didn’t stay. Especially given we paid for an extra room for 2 nights for our teens to get them out of the family room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just the best. Go! Eat and relax. Perfect English. Welcoming and helpful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Quite, relaxing place, located ideally for excursions in the surrounding areas.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Il Tanaceto was the perfect place to stay with a little toddler. We could have dinner every night within metres of our room, and Mariolina and Saro were very accommodating and provided an early supper for our daughter. We loved their homemade food and liqueurs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A lovely place and very nice hosts! We enjoyed our stay and a local and homemade cooking for 4 days...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Incredible views of Etna and the mountains beyond. Fabulous pool. Amazing hospitality and great local tips and recommendations (we really enjoyed the wine tasting at a nearby vineyard). Mariolina and her husband have created something really special here. Be sure to eat with them. The typical Sicilian dinners here were a highlight of our Sicily trip.
Cons: Nothing really. Make sure you use the host’s excellent directions. It’s easy to reach but Google Maps gets a bit confused.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very peaceful farm feel, but with every comfort of civilization. Very charming couple, especially the husband who told us great stories of Sicily and the farm itself.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a lovely B&B situated amongst vineyards close to the northern slopes of Mt Etna. We could not have received a more friendly greeting on arrival by Saro and Mariolina with complimentary refreshments - in our case wine. We opted to have a 4 course dinner in house on both nights which was fantastic - all made from local produce. Mariolina arranged a volcanologist guide for us to hike at Mt Etna and that evening we saw the red glow of a small eruption that had been building up during the day. A real gem of a B&B.
Cons: We could have stayed longer.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: All was perfect. The staff was very welcoming and nice. They gave us very warm welcome. The location was great for different site seeing and attractions. The room and the pool was super clean and well maintained and the breakfast was delicious. We only regards for not staying longer
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property is just beautiful - every detail in the restaurants, pool area and parking/gardens is just gorgeous. It is relaxing, calming and the restaurant serves incredible food with an awesome wine list at very good prices ( I work in the wine industry so this is a big deal for me ) The property in 10 mins drive from Randazzo - a pretty town with nice food options, and most importantly for me close to many wineries - 5 minutes to Planeta! Staff all very friendly.
Cons: The restaurant is only open at set times and there are moments where you can not even buy any water/snack - Before 8am, 10am -1pm and 7pm-8pm ( So it's not horrendous - but I think you should be able to buy water during waking hours ) There is no bar, which would have been amazing considering the gorgeous views and settings - but again its not a dealbreaker - just go for downtime and a chilled-out trip and you will be very happy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is lovely, Not many rooms so nice and quiet in a beautiful rural setting with views of Mt Etna. We had a junior suite which was very nice but be aware that the double bed is upstairs on a Mezzanine level so you need to go down for the bathroom. There is a nice pool but we were there late in the day so didn’t use it. The most amazing part was the restaurant for dinner, a lovely room and the food was fantastic and excellent value, the best we had in Sciliy - don’t miss it. Breakfast was standard fair, nothing to get excited about but ok! It takes about 35 mins to drive to the Etna Nord base, Piano Provenzal, where we were able to hike, without a guide for several hours, including going around two of the lower craters - a great day.
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has great views of Mount Etna. You can watch the steam rise continuously Hardened lava that was left behind by the lava flow of 1983 covers an expansive portion of the land around the area The hotel has repurposed it for the foundations and roads. A very thought provoking and calm area to spend a couple of days
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a great place to start our holiday, as it is very peaceful and quiet.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous! Stunning environment and Etna views.
Cons: Pool was ice-cream headache cold.

Cons: Dinner was disappointing, grumpy waiter and food quality below par, compared to other hotels and restaurants.
7.5 Good
Pros: We've had a big room with great view. The staff of the familiy-run hotel are very nice and gave useful information when needed or requested.
Cons: It doesn't concern the hotel: The village is a bit deserted and shabby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location with fantastic views of Mount Etna and surrounding area. Lovely and quiet location, friendly people who helped us when we had trouble with our car. Choice of nice places to eat including the hotel's restaurant. Fabulous breakfast too! Wished we could have stayed longer!! We will be back!
Cons: Nothing! When driving up to the village be aware of the very, very narrow roads and tight turns...don't follow the SATNAV directions, try to get hold of a local map or directions from the hotel before leaving!

Pros: It was a lovely stay at L'Arco dei Sogni, run by Roseangela and her brother, who are very helpful, friendly and made us feel at home. The hotel is located in a quiet area where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Etna. The Bed and Breakfast is brand new, very clean and comfortable. Parking is not a problem as you can easily find a parking very close. Breakfast was divine! In the evening, one can easily enjoy a drink at the piazza close by. Highly recommended A+++
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast and great hospitality.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: By far this was the BEST stay we have ever had in Sicily! L’ Arco Dei Sogni is a very small family run business located in Malvagna. The house is very well kept, modern, spacious and super clean! It has stunning views too. The food was divine! Words cannot describe how exceptional, tasty and delicious it was. Food is prepared upon request by Rosangela. Everything is home made with local genuine products. If you visit L’Arco dei Sogni you must definetly eat at least once there. We ended up dining every evening there to try as many different dishes as we could. We will surley miss your cooking and the cooking tips Rosangela xxx
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and very clean; beautiful balcony overlooking Etna and the town. Hosts (Luigi and Rosangela) were very kind and welcoming; wonderful food and wine for dinner. There are many options of where to stay when exploring Etna- by staying here, we were able to take in a genuine experience of a Sicilian town.
Cons: Our GPS took us on a direct route to L'Arco Dei Sogni (straight up!). Follow the main road- though it is longer, it will take you right there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This bed and breakfast is absolutely perfect. A wonderful breakfast and lunch was prepared for us that was truly magnificent. We had plenty of room for 9 people and an amazing stay. The host is friendly and professional. The beds were very comfortable.
Cons: There is not one thing about this place that isn’t perfect!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff, definitely. Both Luigi and Rosangela were extremely helpful and kind. The rooms are fully renovated. I cannot think of a better place if you want to visit the Etna area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really sympatic owners. Nice and calm town with spectacular view of Etna. Good starting point for exursions. Very very good homemade food!! We would like to visit this beautiful place again!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Where to start... the host and his sister were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The cooked dinner for us and provided an excellent breakfast. The food was homemade, fresh and abundant. The property itself has been fully renovated and the rooms are very spacious. Our room even had a massage chair in a separate room, quite relaxing. Everything is spotlessly cleaned and the owner provided lots of info about the region. We went for a lovely walk in the natural reserve that starts at the end of the village. The location is near to many things and offers a great view on the Etna.
Cons: The village itself is quite small and only has 1 bar on the main square and no other restaurants. Not a problem, but just something to keep in mind.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Franco, Denise and all their family were very helpful and did their best to make us feel at home, also giving us suggestions about where to visit. The room was spacious, clean and towels changed daily. The location is ideal for people who want to spend some quiet time. The farm animals contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast homely with genuine products...ham, cheese, eggs, bread, jams and fruit and croissants.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I love that this is a working farm, with vineyards, gardens, and farm animals. It would be a great place to take kids to see and experience a real farm. There's a restaurant on site, and a field for guests to use for games.
Cons: We had a hard time finding it through google maps, as it directed us to a road that does not actually connect to the farm because there's a locked gate. Make sure that before you turn off the main road you see the sign for the place; if not you're probably taking the wrong road. It's helpful if you know some Italian. The bathroom fixtures are rather cheap; in their current state they're functional, but are not made to last. This probably reflects that preparing the several small outbuildings to accommodate guests was probably a significant investment for the owners, so corners had to be cut somewhere. There's clutter around the property consistent with this being a working farm, not a resort.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was a little tired externally but internally very spacious with all expected facilities and beautiful views of the countryside ,Etna and vineyards. Franco was a delightful host, meals so generous and fantastic value for money. When we left we drove south around Etna and didn’t feel anywhere bettered the area we stayed. It was an excellent location for northern access to Etna and the Nebrodie hills where we enjoyed fantastic walking.
Cons: Some simple external painting would benefit first impressions but overall a great venue and host
5.4 Okay
Pros: Its a farm. Lots of nature, animals, was great to see horses ! Staff were friendly!
Cons: Its really out of nowhere and we were really lost! GPS dosen't help as its not indicated in it. Finally had some help from some local police who led the way!!! Read about guests comments about the cuisine and how great it was...??? We had dinner but was really mediocre... Could understand that there were not much of a choice. Taste of the main, which was lamb cutlets, had not much of a taste and it tasted more burnt than bbq !!! B'fast , nothing fresh , bread , jam!!! In the end we just had coffee. Value for money ??? Nothing interesting in the vicinity. Not advised unless, you have to pass there for a night to go to the next town. Staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
7.1 Good
Pros: The entrance is scary with lights
Cons: Morning view
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is a good place to stay. You will enjoy the dinners and breakfasts.
Cons: The road is a little difficult to drive but you can do it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a must to visit, Location was amazing, and the owner is a true gentlemen. I recommend to have dinner offer as the owner will personally take care to make you taste a bit of everything and the food is simply delicious. As well you will be greeted by Charlie an adorable dog very friendly with clients.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breathtaking views and very helpful owner. Good breakfast and lovely dinner. Close enough to Randazzo and Linguaglossa.
B&B La Dolce Mela - Francavilla di Sicilia - Bedroom
7
9.7 Excellent (17 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our best B & B experience ever. Our host was friendly, helpful and great fun to be with. The private room, its bathroom and common areas were spotlessly clean and functional and the bed and its pillows were super comfortable. There’s a rap around veranda which has spectacular views of the town, the surrounding country side and Mt Etna! You could even see the volcano venting in the morning before the clouds came over. The breakfast....wow! comprehensive selection which was fresh and delicious. Would be worth staying there just for the breakfast! Car parking on the street was also really easy to find just opposite the B & B which was very helpful. Absolute 5 star experience which just couldn’t be beaten.
Cons: Everything was perfect..!

Pros: Amazing location that seems to be in the middle of nowhere and also so close to Taormina, Etna and other places.
Cons: Nothing it was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spectacular setting, luxurious but comfortable , wonderful staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: An absolutely beautiful location! The renovation of the house has been done so well, with much attention to detail. The staff are extremely accommodating and happy to help with whatever you need. Breakfast was fantastic, using all organic produce. The interaction with the other guests over then communal table was a great way to start the day. Lidia was always available to help us with whatever we needed, a real sweetheart :)
Cons: The mattress is very hard Without a car, transfers around the area are very expensive.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room and relaxation space (a self contained building) really is superbly done to a very high quality. The vineyard itself is small but picturesque and we got a tour of the premises on the day we left (I would recommend this). There was very little information on the website about evening meals and that's because it didn't offer it. I feel this service would have been a nice touch, although clearly this property is a vineyard with rooms rather than a typical agriturismo. The venue really is stunning and the staff are very helpfull and friendly. The bottle of wine in your room at the start was a nice touch! I felt it was perhaps a tad expensive for what it was but there is no doubting its a top tier place
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property on a small vineyard. Recently built so everything is new. Great attention to detail on the part of the architect and interior designer who made efforts to maintain a rustic, traditional feel throughout while incorporating modern facilities. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Wine tour and tasting was conducted by a very knowledgeable woman.
Cons: The bed was as hard as a rock. To really make this a stellar property they should add a swimming pool and TV.

Il Borgo Resort - Castiglione di Sicilia - Bedroom

Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
6.7 Good
Cons: The beds were unbelievably hard.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel dinner is exceptional!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Although il Borgo is not easy to find, it is worth for the drive: we could see the hills and an old viaduct not just from the pool but from our windows too. I also liked the main building which is a renewed old barn, having a huge and authentic dining area. Breakfast and dinner were also amazing, especially the food (eg marmelade, sausages) produced by the owner company (Terralcantara). the Alcantara gorge is nearby and you can get tickets at Il Borgo
Cons: the fridge of the minibar was too noisy - but that’s really the only thing which disturbed us
8.8 Excellent
Pros: View is great, nice premises, Great breakfast choice and interesting products made by the property .
Cons: The rooms from the side house are quite humid and opening the windows before our arrival would have solved part of the problem. Mainly pork/veal dishes in the menu "a la carte".
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was ideal both for exploring the rich and fascinating foothills of Mount Etna, while being conveniently close to the Ionian coast. The historic olive oil processing facility that is the heart of the complex has been adapted well. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff - front desk (Sarah), restaurant (Anita) and bar - are charming, knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast buffet exceeded expectations. Altogether a great 'home base' for day tripping and excellent value for money.
Cons: It is not really a criticism, but the patio/bar/pool area could be better integrated - structurally - with the indoor bar/restaurant. The nice lady who was serving had to trek far, and down too many steps, to bring us our Campari and sodas!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful surroundings
Cons: Direction signs need updating
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, garden, pool, room, view, breakfast
Cons: .poor wifi
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place. Very calm and perfect for relax. Very nice staff, clean room and very quiet.
BeB Gemma dei Nebrodi - Santa Domenica Vittoria - Bedroom
11
9.2 Excellent (28 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We have been received with great warmth. Marcello and his family went out of their way to make our stay truly exceptional. They gave us great tips about what to do in the area and even provided us with a pick-up-service for a festival we otherwise could not have reached. The breakfast in the bar right next to the B&B offers a great variety of typicial Sicilian treats from of which we could choose whatever we wanted. In the end Marcello even gave us a ride to the train station in the next town and gave us a little sightseeing-tour along the way.
Affittacamere Bellavista - Castiglione di Sicilia - Building

9.0 Excellent (42 reviews)
Overview Reviews
A stay at Affittacamere Bellavista places you in the heart of Castiglione di Sicilia, a 5-minute drive from Cuba of Santa Domenica and 6 minutes from Mount Etna Park. Featured amenities include a computer station, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and a 24-hour front desk. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The B&B was on the edge of town, which is much easier for parking (the streets in the center are steep and narrow) and from there it’s a quick walk up to the old town (unless you have trouble walking, but then Castiglione is probably not a good choice to stay overall :-). And from the room, we had partial view of the town, which was another plus. The room was simple but very clean and had all we needed. In any case, we were out visiting the area and hiking the Etna during the day. Breakfast (sweet Italian style, plenty of croissants etc) felt very homey, sitting at the table with Angelo, who made fresh moka and with whom we managed to communicate in a funny mix of Italian and German. Excellent value, would stay again.
Cons: There was a neighborhood dog barking at night, but that’s obviously no fault of the B&B. I think it’s quite normal on Sicilian countryside :-)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is very good, only 5 minutes walking distance to the center of Castiglione. The city is really beautiful, I recommend a visit! The room was comfortable, the hosts were very helpful and friendly.
Cons: The floor of the balcony should have been cleaned.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was super clean...the room, the bathroom.Like expensive hotel. The staff was perfect. They give me room for 3 people instead of one, so i haven't idea how is the smallest one. Was perfect for the price.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It'a small place, run by a very friendly couple. The hosts are charming, trustworthy and helpful people. The rooms and the bathroom are clean and tidy
Cons: The hosts keep a cat - that gives a specific smell to the general entrance area (other corridors and the rooms smell perfectly fine) The hosts are eager to help you on any request but be prepared to speak Italian or use body language - only basic communication is possible in English.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Home made continental breakfast is amazing value...with extremely generous portions! Coffee is also excellent! Angelo was a star host.
Cons: Everything was more than satisfactory

5.0 Okay
Pros: Golf course.
Cons: Everything else. Gym terrible, rooms dated, reservations mixed up with no effort to address, food is barely edible, spa is a joke. Go somewhere else.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is really wonderful facing the ocean
Cons: The lack of hot water for shower
6.5 Good
Pros: The location is perfect if you like to explore the countryside and then drive down towards the sea on a sunny hot day. The bedroom was clean, well decorated and very spacious, although the hair dryer in the bathroom is not good, it would be good if they place a good hair dryer in the room as a second choice. The breakfast is very good, enough choice of fresh fruit, fresh baked bread and if you like you can have english breakfast. There is a good selection of homemade cakes and traditional biscuits of the area. Service at the restaurant is impeccable, staff is very professional and always happy to help.
Cons: The gym is small not well equipped and neglected, two running machines were out of order the other two not switched on. On our arrival we were welcomed by staff at the reception however one member os staff did not came across corteous, her attitude was slightly presumptuous and unfriendly. The swimming pool outside is not heated so not useful if you visit and have children with you as they are not allowed to use the indoors one.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Liked our stay at the hotel and won't think about it twice to book again.
Cons: Nothing really, but 1 particular staff at the restaurant could have tried to be more friendly and attentive.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Nice view of a wine vineyard from my balcony.
Cons: Over priced. The hotel is old (not in a good way) and needs to be modernised. Everything just seems tired and in need of replacement. Restaurant felt like a home for old people, waiter not friendly, food was thrown out too quickly as if they want to get rid of you. I counted only 50 people in the restaurant. Literally the couple next to me ordered and got their cooked starters within 3 minutes. Chef Mike is working hard!

Pros: We’ve enjoyed our stay very much! Davide took great care of us in terms of helping us organising our trips, recommendations for exploring the surrounding area and restaurants. Just before our dinner started, Davide gave us a little tour about the history of his family’s winery. The 3-course dinner (and his wine) was very tasty. Thank you for the great service!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Davide is very friendly. Gave us advise about the area, what to do and where to go. We had a nice and spacious room, the pool(area) was clean and a great place to relax. We tried some (well, a lot actually) wine and local food, enjoyed the Sicilian life very much

Pros: Locationa and breakfast
Cons: Restaurant wasn’t available on most occasions
8.3 Excellent
Pros: You will struggle to find a better view of mount Etna anywhere in Sicily plus the pizza restaurant was absolutely lovely serving the best pizza we had during our stay in Sicily , the cook was very friendly and welcoming. Lovely little village a few miles away to explore with more great views of Etna
Cons: Balcony was very small with only one chair, the fridge in the room didn’t work and the pool had loud rap style music playing constantly but that seems the norm in Italy, very isolated but loads of gorgeous places to visit nearby.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view, nice restaurant with good pizza, good facilities (swimming pool, spa, free parking)
6.3 Good
Pros: Lovely view
Cons: Restaurant not open on 2 of 3 nights and not even hot water to make cup of tea available on 1 night. We were in 2 rooms and fridge did not work in either room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved view and atmosphere. Booked Etna view
Cons: Shower small towels not changed daily. Every three days.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Size pf room , balcony and furnishing style
Cons: Shower and no spare toilet paper. Breakfàst was allcpmmercial and unhealthy mainly. We only had fruit twice.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Nice, place with nice view
Cons: They have no idea of what mean Hospitality. The staff was made up of two girls who covered all the roles from clean the rooms to serve breakfast lunch and dinner, the owner not at all welcoming. In booking there is a list of activities but they are not true, we asked for horse riding and they say to don’t do this service, I didn’t see table tennis needer. There is a nice spa, we ask to the owner how it works with who we should book to use it and to do massages but nobody knew how to indicate it and at the end we didn't even use it. In the pool there was always loud disco disco music, nothing relaxing. We stayed there two nights with my boyfriend to relax but the bed was so uncomfortable with the spring mattress that we returned more tired than before.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Not a whole lot the experience was horrible.
Cons: Well I normally keep my negative comments to myself but this place was very unprofessional. I would never stay here again. First check in was for 3pm. I did not get a room till 4:30pm check in was not completed till 7:30 pm. Plus the owner also charged me 4 euro for 1 litre bottle of water. There was no working wifi should I go on. O
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The views of Mt Etna were absolutely breathtaking!
Cons: WiFi did not work. We arrived while a huge private party was going on and it was very difficult to get anyone’s attention. They gave us a key, showed us to our room, but is was 3 hours before we could ask any questions about dinner etc. They were incredibly kind and generous at dinner and this made up for several stressful hours that afternoon.
