Surrounded by forest and parks, the area around the hotel is ideal for hiking, horse riding and bird watching. There are also many lovely towns nearby, including the Medieval village of Ayllón. Each room at La Senda de los Caracoles is individually decorated. Rooms are cosy and bright, with sloping ceilings and natural wood. The hotel has a restaurant, serving typical Castilian food. There is also a relaxing lounge area with a library and fireplace. The lounge features satellite TV and free internet access.

Termes is in Montejo de Tiermes, in the Castilla y León countryside. This Roman-style property has a traditional restaurant which specialises in grilled meat and holds monthly full-moon parties. The bright rooms at Termes feature free Wi-Fi and a TV. Each one comes with a private bathroom. There are many beautiful hiking routes in the countryside around Termes. The property also organises mushroom-picking outings. Soria is 1 hour and 20 minutes’ drive away, and you can drive to Segovia in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Central Madrid is just under 2 hours’ drive away.
Pros: Great place to spend the night when visiting the area. Nice breakfast and comfortable room. Great value.

Pros: The room was much better than we expected, clean and newly renovated. The location is ideal if you want to visit el Hayedo de la Tejera Negra. Good value food in the bar. We thought the breakfast was fine for such a low price; toast with tomato and a coffee.
Cons: One of the members of staff was not especially friendly. The shower was quite small even though the bathroom was a good size. The walls were a bit thin so we could hear noise from the neighbouring rooms.
Pros: A really high class conversion from the former convent, very nice rooms, well fitted out, good spa facilities, one of the best hotels on my trip.
