Perfectly located by the ocean, yet 5 minutes esay walk from city center. Nice decor, great lobby for coffee or bier opposite the ocean.GREAT OCEAN VIEW. I came for a business trip and found the hotel meeting and exceeding all my expectations. Elected to stay one more night during weekend. Will stay there again. The hotel is somewhat outdated. I do not like the concrete architecture from teh 70's. The gym equipment was second grade.
View of the River Plate Staff was unfriendly and seldom helpful; hotel is in desperate need of upkeep and maintenance. Food selection at restaurant is mediocre at best. No restaurant on weekends??? No air conditioner because they set to "cold climate conditions" on a set date regardless of what current weather conditions are outside. Hot and no air condition is hardluy expected from a hotel.
Reception staff, porters, housekeepers -- all were very customer-oriented, helpful, and friendly. The hotel location was perfect while visiting various museums and plazas. Breakfast pastries were plentiful, delicious, and fresh -- and great coffee! The food service staff in the breakfast area were attentive for requests, but the scrambled eggs container was empty when I arrived for breakfast each day around 10 am. The staff would, of course, fill the container but that requires time. Also, staff did not remove used plates until after a customer left rather than during. Lunch in dining room near the reception desk was delicious but, again, staff did not "attend" to the tables quickly. I ate dinner in the hotel dining room only one evening and the service was very slow. I believe the food service personnel could learn a great deal from the front desk/porter personnel. :-) The length of the twin bed in my room was fine for me but may be a bit short for a person of approximately 6 feet tall.
A very unusual hotel, right in the centre of the old town. Tiny lobby up a flight of steps, with an ancient and tempramental elevator. The room we had on the 4th floor had restricted views of the harbour and old town, inclunding the scuffy roof terrace of the hotel opposite. The room was 'unusual', very high-ceiling, so had been refurbished as a two-level room - up a flight of unguarded stairs to the (leaky) bathroom and bed area. The hotel has "character", but would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems! Breakfast was fine (on the 5th floor - again up a winding stairway) and the staff spoke good English and were very helpful. We liked it - it's just a bit 'unusual'. Don't stay there if you have mobility / walking problems, but otherwise it's an interesting experience in a very old building.
It was a good functional hotel right at the base of Old Town with friendly helpful staff. Their english was a bit shaky if that's a big thing to you. For us it wasn't and we figured out what each other was saying just fine after a while.
the design of the room was amazing, the feeling with the staff was great. close to 18 de julio it was a perfect stay, as a travel agent i was very impressed and will definatly return as the price was fantastic along with the room and people. and i hope i get emails with special offers to return. only that we didnt stay long enough.
The staff was very pleasant, and the architecture of the old building transformed into a hotel was neat and appropriate for it's great location a stone throw away from Plaza Independencia. Didn't really know how to work cable.
The building the tv and the rooms are under the expectations.
The hotel is beautiful! A combination of antique and modern! The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and kind! The cleaning staff didn't do their job as they should have
Location, room, cleanliness, price & free parking. This is second time we stayed at hotel. I'd rate it at a 9. The last one of these we filled out ranked hotel at 7.9 for some reason. I'm not sure how answering the check boxes turns into a score. For clarity I thought I'd tell you my rating directly. Nothing
Good location, reasonable facilities including fridge and free use of internet computer. If you ignore the awful front desk service, it is good value. Front desk service was dreadful. I arrived on time but was asked to wait. Over the course of an hour I had to ask three different people what the cause of delay was. Each time I had to give my name. One of the staff just went home during this time. An elderly gentleman trying to change his room said the hotel was worse than anything he'd experienced in World War 2. He was exaggerating... After all this I was surprised tha the room was quite acceptable.
There was nothing that I liked about my stay at the Hotel Lancaster. The hotel is dirty and seedy. In the dead of winter the heat did not work.A staff person could not help nor were there free-standing heating units that could be brought to my room. The phone in the room was completely dead and flithy. The bathroom sink was loose and coming off the wall. The hotel is understaffed and clearly no care goes in to maintaining the facility.
Not much, it's very basic hotel. It was not very clean and the rooms were very small.
Central location ideal, 12th floor room afforded good view over the Montevideo skyline, reception staff helpful to book evening entertainment. The state of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. When we arrived (late afternoon), the bathroom had not been cleaned, rubbish not emptied and empty crisp packets/coke cans were left on the side from the previous occupants. The porter tried to surreptitiously remove the aforesaid items while we set our luggage down, but it didn't go unnoticed!
Excellent location on one of the main city squares with views along the main shopping street and down to the sea. Guest computer was useful. The cleaning staff did not clean and were rather rude. The cleaners would hold the lifts (elevators) for hours meaning that guests would have to walk up and down the stairs. We were on the 10th floor and so this was not much fun! In addition on one occasion when I walked up the stairs a cleaner swung the elevator door open into me - this hurt but the cleaner just laughed and offered no apology. The reception staff were not much better and would pander to the large noisy groups that the hotel seemed to like having while ignoring the needs of couples and family groups.
