If you come to Rapallo, don't stay anywhere else! The owners treated us like royalty, spoke perfect English and went way above the expected to make us happy. Ferry and train very convenient for day trips. Beach in front of hotel very small and rocky. Offered slight discount to pool club in front of hotel where umbrellas and chairs were available. Short walks to anywhere you would want to go in Rapallo. Our room overlooked the sea on one side and the town on the other. Windows were beautiful but we were warned not to keep them open due to mosquitoes. We did have them open occasionally and had no problem with bugs. Bathroom had great shower. Hotel is near end of promenade so it's not noisy with crowds from restaurants. Breakfast had wide variety of fresh foods and the rolls were the best we had anywhere. We would definitely stay here again and hated to leave.
Pros: Location was perfect, close to train station, ferry, town, and seaside promenade. Owners Alessandro and Sara were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Beautiful view of water from room, nicely renovated and comfortable. Amazing breakfast.
Cons: Evening staff was not always as helpful as daytime staff.

The Meliá Genova is a five-star hotel in Genoa, located in the residential district of Carignano in what used to be the headquarters of Genoa, Italy¿s biggest iron and steel manufacturer. The hotel¿s central location is only a few steps away from the city¿s busy main streets and local shops and allows visitors to explore Genoa¿s numerous museums and historic churches. Classic and imposing on the outside, modern, luxurious and elegant in its furnishings, the Meliá Genova is the ideal venue for business and equally leisure travelers on holiday. The building was designed by Genoese architect Giuseppe Crosa di Vergagni in 1929 and has now been brought back to life by a complete makeover, welcoming guests in the exclusive Carignano district just steps away from the city¿s business and financial centre, the Teatro Carlo Felice and the Genoa Aquarium. For art enthusiasts, the hall and the restaurant feature two installations created ad hoc by Silvio Wolf, the internationally renowned Milanese artist. The rooms display works by three other famous Italian photographers, Mario Cresci, Leonardo Genovese and Francesco Radino.
For such a beautiful regal and expensive hotel, guests should be treated well and should feel welcomed. We stayed for 7 nights and not once did anyone muster more than a vague a hello. you couldn't get served at the pool areas unless you somehow got a waiter to notice you. When you did, the service was again non-existent. We were served a bread basket that had bites taken out of the rolls. When we pointed this out, the waiter barely acknowledged it, took it away and never came back with different bread. Just little things like that are confusing for a 5 star gorgeous hotel. No one made us feel welcome, with the exception of very kind and friendly lifeguards who we saw every day and helped us. I think the Hotel is relying on its stunning building and location to bring guests back, as it is certainly not the service.
Pros: This hotel is stunningly beautiful. The outdoor spaces are perfectly manicured, the restaurants and halls are gorgeous. The location is perfect. The pool and seaside area is just as pictured and are perfect.
Cons: The staff have no customer service skills at all. They lost our business at every meal as we preferred to leave the hotel and eat elsewhere than deal with the service (non-existent) at the hotel. The only staff that were attentive were the lifeguards.

The restaurant is a great spot for a bite to eat and cold drinks are served at the bar/lounge. There's a rooftop terrace and a poolside bar, and rooms at this luxurious hotel offer minibars and room service.
Cons: Horrible WIFI.
Bad coffee and not many healthy choices at breakfast.
Terrible parking. Nowhere to unload the car, the parking is slow,
Off site and expensive. The Brustol has no door person and this hotel needs one.

Pros: The best part was the excellent restaurant and the view from it. I would really stay there again. It is really a lovely hotel.
Cons: For some reason Kayak system did not recognize that I did the reservation for 2 adults and a 7 years old child, so when I got at the hotel wasn't aware of the child. Therefore the rate was different and they had to fix the room at the last minute.

Rapallo was our very favorite in all of Italy. This hotel added to the experience here!!
Cons: The young man with dark rimmed glasses that worked the front desk in the afternoon was not very friendly.
The key to our room was heavy and bulky. I believe it is so that you will leave it at the hotel when you leave for the day.

Pros: The room was clean and modern, the lobby was welcoming and the front desk persons very professional and friendly. The breakfast was very nice. Good location in Rapallo for ferry to Portofino
Cons: The bed essentially consumed the room and there was very little daylight. Although there was a spa it was very unwelcoming and they wouldn't let us bring our 8 year old.
The host at the Restuaraunt ended up being super sweet all weekend and I felt bad for thinking otherwise. Totally loved our stay and would come back over and over again
Pros: The location was fantastic
Cons: I was a little (ok a lot at first) put off by whom I assume what the host at the hotel's restuaraunt. He left us standing there for what seemed like 15 minutes while seating others. In the end it was because they were super busy and we had no reservation
