9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable bedroom and lovely shower room. Buffet breakfast very good - never had cheese and fruit for breakfast before - very nice! Lovely Nespresso coffee. St Lo came up trumps on Sunday evening (when hotel restaurant not open) with a super Chinese restaurant opposite the old town walls with very friendly and fun owner!
Cons: Bedroom a bit dark and subdued decorations. The late arrival time was a bit tricky to work with on our trip.
10.0 Excellent

Auberge De L'abbaye - Hambye - Building
2
9.2 Excellent (162 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Auberge De L'Abbaye is located in the Normandy countryside, a few hundred metres from Hambye Abbey. It offers en suite guest rooms with TV and free Wi-Fi internet available. The Auberge’s restaurant serves regionally inspired, gastronomic dishes. Meals can be enjoyed on the hotel terrace and guests can relax with a drink and a free newspaper in the bar. The historic town of Villedieu les Poeles is situated just 10 km away and guests can enjoy coarse fishing, hiking and cycling nearby. The Normandy coast is 25 km from the Auberge De L'Abbaye and Mont Saint Michel can be reached in 30 minutes by car. Guests can enjoy mini-golf and tennis nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was typically French, just what we expected. The croissants were the best we have had in over forty years of visiting France. The restaurant was delightful and the evening meal we had there absolutely delicious. The family running the hotel were both charming and helpful. The auberge is situated in a beautiful valley close to the ruined Hambye Abbey, and although set by the road we slept well. We would definitely consider another stay there in the future.
Cons: Oversleeping on the morning of our departure and having to rush away !
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A nice place with a friendly staff. The room was clean and had everything we expected. Not much, but what we needed. The restaurant is wery fine with good food and a winecellar that matches the food.
Cons: The rooms facing the street were terribly noisy. To sleep with an open window was impossible. During the night the road outside is pretty quiet, but morning and evening traffic is extremely noisy. If you find the use of your cellphone important you will be disappointed. The position of the hotell is such as there is no coverage whatsoever for your cellphone. You have to take a long walk outisde the hotel to place a call.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Auberge is furnished to a very high standard. Rooms are clean and bright, with comfortable beds and the superior double had a large comfortable sofa. The restaurant food is of a very good quality. Staff are very welcoming and service in the restaurant is very good.
Cons: There is no mobile or WIFI available which means unless you use the hotel telephone you cannot communicate. Although I understand the owners are trying to resolve this issue but if you need a connection to work, you will not find it here at the moment. Expected more choice of food at breakfast for the price charged - no fruit or eggs - just croissant, bread, jams, yogourt. No tea or coffee facilities in room although supplied downstairs upon payment if required.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful and accommodation was excellent. Facilities were perfect and restaurant food was very, very good. Cannot overrate this hotel. We had an excellent stay and would happily recommend to all.
Cons: Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily have stayed longer.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing. Great value for excellent food with great service too.
Cons: Noise from road. Not too bad but infrequent cars passed at speed. Also there were Cockerels over the road - who did what they do best at 0530!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A superbly run excellent hotel - surprisingly modern well-designed décor; the staff were calm, professional and couldn't do enough for us; the dinner was simply excellent and very reasonably priced. We will certainly go again.
Cons: Nothing

Domaine de la Boudière - Coutances - Building
3
9.0 Excellent (95 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Coutances, Domaine de la Boudière is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of Coutances Cathedral and Coutances Botanical Garden. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming owners and great facilities Nice and quite and local to town.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Close enough to the town to be able to walk in for dinner.
7.5 Good
Pros: We only stayed one evening but the bed was very comfortable, great white fluffy towels. All very clean and owner very amicable and friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was extremely helpful and pleasant
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice clean property within walking distance of the local town - about a mile but along pavements. Quiet and clean independent building which houses two rooms with a shared dining/kitchen area between them which I assume you could use - we didn’t. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room and our host was happy to provide additional tea bags, coffee and milk. Took breakfast hosted in owners kitchen - basic french breakfast of bread, croissant and jam.
Cons: Although very clean and bed very comfortable, it is quite basic, no frills and if you were there for an evening, nowhere to comfortably sit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about it suited my stay. It is more of a B&B than hotel but I had gathered that from the information supplied before travelling
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The property was very nice. The room met all of our needs.
Cons: The location is a little hard to find if you don't have it preprinted.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property and the owner was very nice. Breakfast was very good with lots of coffee.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property is very quiet and feels as if you are in the middle of the country. The host was charming and very welcoming. He upgraded us to a bigger room as we were the only guests and gave us some milk so we could make tea. Much to our delight, there was a kettle in the room. As it was a Sunday evening and there were no restaurants open in Coutances, he directed us to a pleasant pizzeria a few miles away. Breakfast is available at an additional cost, but we didn't have it, so can't comment on that. There is a kitchen, fridge and microwave available (shared between 3 rooms) in a nice dining area. Strangely (considering the beautiful rooms), the crockery and cutlery available is a rather motley selection, so if you were planning to cook/eat a meal, you might have a problem. The property is a short drive from Countances, which has an interesting cathedral and well maintained Jardin des Plantes to visit.
Cons: Not a criticism, just an observation: As a fridge was available, it would have been useful to have a freezer section where we could re-freeze our freezer packs for the cool bag.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is lovely, the host is lovely. The rooms are simple but well setup if you are wheel chairing it (we had a ability enabling bathroom). We had a shared area where we could have a drink with our friends when we got back from dinner. The grounds are lovely and arrived through a wooded lane. Totally one of the nicest places on our trip.
Cons: When you go (and we recommend you do) make sure you have a GPS - not far from town, but the entry is not well signposted (the mayor thinks a sign would be visual pollution from what I understand - very French!) If you hit the roundabout on the way out of town you have gone too far.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly host and intersting rooms!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the quiet off the beaten track location, ideal to hit coastal areas - the no frills approach - a simple honest endeavor, a good breakfast to get you on your way and a congenial manner from our hosts.
Cons: Would have been glad of some daily room service - nothing of note in the local village so you are slightly at a loss as the nights set in.......resort to a good book and a glass of wine.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant, welcome from friendly hosts, comfortable country environment.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice charming apartment in old rural house
Cons: NO HEATING available...the coldest place I have ever stay overnight
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It would have been lovely to have a kettle in the room to make some hot drinks.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, The family was great!
Cons: The bed was quite particular! But made us love each other a bit more!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had picked this as it was close to Coutance which had a Jazz festival on and we could avoid the crowds, prices and noise etc. Martin and Anna were wonderful and shared their place with us. The room was upstairs and had plenty of room. Shower had lots of hot water and bed was large. We were aware of the note from a previous stayer re cold but found extra blankets had been provided as slept soundly( and warm). There was a great balance between items of use ie Wardrobe to hand clothes, side stands etc and not over filling the room for the sake of making it look good but not be easy to move around. The view from the windows were special, with the fields around being plowed and seeded while we were there. Breakfast next morning was provided downstairs in the main room and was plentiful, with all the standards we had become accustomed to at most places. Coffee, pastries and lots of homemade jams etc.. As with most places we were left in peace but asked the hosts to join us as both spoke good English and were able to provide knowledge of the local area, what roads were like, how did they end up there, what was good in the local area and more. I wish we had had more time to look into the items the hosts had spoken about but so many places to go. We were able to find out about the history of the place and the local area.. After breakfast we sat in the garden and discussed life in the area and what plans they had for the future. We could see over the fields and woods and just relax and hear the birds and farm animals around the area.Family feel in a wonderful We were provided with the history of the place and what the future held in terms of more rooms being finished for home stay. The ceiling had the big beams we came to see in many of the old places and the stone walls which are over half to a metre thick. We were provided with a history of the place before they came and what they had found. Full marks to them as they continue to improve the place for future travellers.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quite and relaxing place, clean (a plus in France), excellent breakfast. The owner and his wife are super kind!
Cons: Nothing

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast in France is the same everywhere and this was certainly up to top standard. Fresh croisants and pain du chocolat with plain french bread and any amount of coffee or hot drinks, jam cheese and other treats. We all liked it. We liked the secure bicycle parking in a large locked basement garage accessible by easy ramp at the back. This makes this hotel a good one for touring cyclists.
Cons: The location is actually not that central if you are not able to walk far. However if you can, then this hotel is easy to reach from the main road and there is a quiet route into the centre only 10 mins walk away.

Overview Reviews

5.5 Okay
Pros: Easy to park
Cons: It felt as if everything here is done to a minimum, certainly no frills. The decor is a strange mixture as if it has been furnished with random things from a saleroom. Bizarrely we had a 'high tech' shower but the rest of the room was basic. We could not use the sauna as the instructions are only in French. No soap provided in the bathroom, a miniature tube of shower gel , not replaced in the 4 days we were there, and old towels and bed linen. The surround to the washbasin is pebbles set in concrete; impossible to stand anything on, and unhygienic. It is not a welcoming atmosphere here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: High quality, excellent value, very attentive owners, great breakfast with homemade breads, and even multifunction shower & 2 electric massage chairs & a sauna in the room. Also nice garden & very quiet location, but only 5 minutes from Coutences town centre. For sure we will return

Cons: Breakfast was a little limited for choice but there was plenty of it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful French country house. Lots of 'finishing touches' that made such a difference. The shower was an experience!!! (awesome!!) The owners were really helpful. Very comfortable, very relaxing - would definitely return.

7.5 Good
Pros: Location, dinner, views
Cons: when we came down for breakfast at 9-30am there was very little left. When i booked this hotel it was to include breakfast as advertised on your site, but we ended up having to pay extra for it NOT VERY HAPPY.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great quiet location a few minutes outside the Coutances centre with plenty of parking. Nice room and big beds in our twin. The outside deck and comfort chairs looked atractive for an afternoon rest though we were too late in the day to take advantage of those.
Cons: Really two things. The restaurant was closed for the weekend so we had to go into Coutances after a long day's travelling and the shower hose needed some serious re-configuration to get it into place for a decent shower for a tall man
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff good
Cons: Hotel starting to date.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff very helpful and friendly.
Cons: The price of breakfast was too much for what it was.
