There was very little water pressure from the shower. Also the heater thermostat did not work. We set it at 80 we were freezing and went to bed, when we woke up the heater never kicked on but the ceiling fan did? So weird
Checking in was not only expedient but flawless. Had no issues at all, was in my room within 10 minutes of pulling up to the front door. Room was excellent and I do suggest the pool view.
Everyone from the front desk staff, the servers and bartenders, and the housekeepers did an amazing job. I work in the service industry in a casino/resort, and yet I experienced better service and a better experience with the staff at the Hyatt than where I work. A+++. The only things I didn't like had nothing to do with the hotel and its staff. It isn't located downtown, so it is a very short trek to the festivities in town. Also, it sounded like a large man was doing burpees in the room above us.
Very nice grounds. Facility and staff were very nice. Rooms look nice but not very functional. Modern hand shower makes a mess and not easy to use. Indoor free standing A.C. unit is needed but is as loud as a train. Closet door won't stay shut. Ceiling fan wobbles and makes noise. Soda machines were down. Stupid small things that could be easily fixed.
We enjoyed the recently updated rooms including the very nice bathroom with vanity and open shower. We enjoyed very tasty room service meals (dinner and breakfast). We also used the pool which was pleasantly warm. The toilet was a bit of a tight fit with walls on either side. The air conditioner was a standing machine which had an exhaust that was separated form the back and until we reattached it poured hot exhaust over the air-conditioning.
My wife and I live on east coast and celebrated our 25th anniversary in California. We stayed at a Hyatt in 3 out of the 4 cities we spent time in. We started with the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco for 4 nights which was fantastic! We then stayed here at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey which was not what we expected. We upgraded to a room facing the golf course. The view decent. The staff were very friendly. The location is good if you're a golfer. Otherwise, I would rather be closer to the beach. My primary complaint was the lack of central AC. I don't know if all rooms are setup this way but our room had a portable air conditioner. It does the job to cool the room but it is extremely loud and the compressor kicked on and off all night. If you can sleep in 72 degrees, you won't have a problem. If you are like my wife and I and like it 67-69 degrees, you may want to consider another hotel. It has a huge impact on a good night's sleep which is the main purpose for renting a hotel in the first place.
Beautiful room, beautiful view and very convenient to all of down town It seems the nicer the hotel, the less accommodations. No free coffee or breakfast, business center computers needed to have browsers updated, too many kids in the spa
Super nice staff. The $22 resort fee includes parking and internet. A little farther from the wharf/tourists spots.
I liked the outdoor area. There is a large pool, hot tub, games, and communal fire pit that was a lot of fun. I really dislike the bed covers. You are either way too hot or freezing. What happened to old-fashioned blankets?
Loved that they had live music. Restaurant had good service for breakfast and dinner. Food was good as well. Did not like carpet in bedrooms. Bathrooms a bit small
Hotel receptionist at the front lobby. Upon checking in, he literally gave keys and handed it over. Didn't explain anything else, parking, amenities, etc
Walking distance from everything. Construction during our stay and a long walk from the elevators
Close to everything downtown and you're right next to Fisherman's Wharf. Staff were professional and very accommodating. Spa services were great. Construction was going on outside for their conference center so you have to walk around it a little bit but inside you couldn't hear it from where I was staying along Pacific Street.
We paid 150 plus 20 to park. I am at peace with it. Recommended. 20 additional to park...cmon.
The hotel is a short walk to the pier. There is a lot of construction around the hotel, which makes things loud and busy. We had to wait until after 5 to check in ad still didn't get what we had asked for. There was a large convention there and basically the staff told us that they couldn't do anything to accommodate us. We ended up with a room on a VERY busy street and a toilet paper rack that kept falling on the ground. I was really looking forward to this hotel and was disappointed.
I liked the overall comfort of the hotel. I did not like the service. I asked for a bellhop to help take my bags to the car. I waited for about 25 minutes and decided to take the bags myself.
Shards of glass on the room floor; freezing temperature when we walked into the room (heater was not on); once heater was turned on, had little to no effect, so we slept in bathrobes and ordered two extra blankets. Hotel is currently under major renovation, so the check-in feels like a motel and there is no entry lobby.
Location and price
my kids loved the pool and hot tub.
-Clean room -Big and fluffy towels -Ceiling fan and portable oscillating floor fan -Plenty of drinking glasses -Condiments and Keurig Coffee/Tea -The last room had bathrobes. This one did not. -No microwave / no access to microwave -Toilet paper rather thin -No other complaints
Hotel was under construction. It was loud and not the least bit relaxing. We were woken up in the middle of the night by drunks cursing in the plaza area. The carpet in the room was stained. The power went out multiple times and I had one family member get stuck in the elevator. The staff was friendly but my experience overall was not pleasant.
We love the Portillo but the construction is very distracting. We come about once a year and last year it was complete distraction as well. The room we got this trip was so noisy. We could hear everyone walking by yelling and screaming in the middle of the night. I wish we had staying in the main building. Everything else was oerfect! We love the portola... we will visit again even tho this wasn't the best of visits.
Jackhammers outside my window at 8am, nonstop construction noise on hotel and conference center next door. Poor service in restaurant. Good location & friendly staff
Location was fantastic. Very short walk on a private path to the beach. Close enough to town for shopping and running errands. Room is incredibly small, even for just 2 people. Walls are PAPER thin! Not worth $1,000 for 3 nights!
The view of the ocean, the fireplace, balcony and bed. The two chairs are very uncomfortable. Needs club chairs that are more comfortable.
I loved the fire place and open balcony overlooking the beach and ocean.
Looks like a beautiful hotel, but they cancelled while I was halfway through a long drive to the hotel for a wedding. Had to turn around and come home and miss the event.
We love this place! We came here last year and fell in love! Pet Friendly, right on the water, you get your own golf cart, and a decent restaurant with full bar right there! The rooms and view are the show stoppers! Wish it was a little more reasonable in the price but location location location! Thing have changed since our last visit. The hotel and restaurant are undergoing a change of ownership and they have made some strange decisions. First they no longer offer golf carts for each room, complete bummer. It really was fun and a total selling point. They are still on site but just not in use. If they change it we would come back. Also the hot tub was out of service, by the sign for quite a while. For a chill coast a hot tub is key. The restaurant leaved much to be desired. Although we love the outdoor fire pit tables the menu was haphazardly blocked out by falling taped pieces of paper abs the food was not great. Don't really see the point of the sushi, it seems like if you did pizza, steaks, and a few fun Hawaii dishes you would make your life and food a little easier. Little things but it makes a difference when you are spending a $1000 for 2 nights stay.
Pool, location, room, atmosphere Golf cart did not work on second day, reception area should be bigger.
first i got upgraded which helps, but everything was right clean, things work,
Being on the dunes and right next to a beautiful beach was lovely. The room and bed were very comfortable. Coffee wasn't hot
Amazing place to stay, right on the beach, great, friendly staff No.
My room was a delite. I could have stayed in my room for my entire trip. I had all the comforts of home in my room, a great view and patio the tv would not power off and one could not do so manually. I also felt alittle confused with directions but eventually figured out how to get out of the hotel. and in the bathroom a counter or shelfing was needed to put out makeup bag etc.
A very comfortable & attractive room, the half bottle of excellent red wine was a very enjoyable welcme gift. The lack of a restaurant that matches the quality of the accommodation is a distinct disqapointment. Room service food was indifferent and expensive.
The location was beautiful!
The hotel has a nice view The room had no air conditioning. The windows had to be opened to get any cool air. The problem was it was very warm when we were there. We had to leave our room and go to the hotel lobby to get get fooled down. It has an old look. The room is outdated.
Beautiful grounds and a truly relaxing atmosphere. A romantic getaway spot Service at breakfast was excruciatingly slow. We had to ask for the check 3 times before receiving it.
Everybody was so nice We like everything !!!!
The accommodations and location are stunning. The hotel is not yet ready for their reopening so they have not fully staffed as of yet. I look forward to CVR being back in top form.
There are so many wonderful activities, everyone was beyond friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. Plus you can't beat the gorgeous scenery! Nothing!
Location 1/5 of your cost goes to the hotel, other 4/5 for the view. Facility is meh.

It didn't feel like a hotel. The rooms are spread out into different buildings, felt like an apartment complex. It was busy, but since everything was spread out, it was quiet. Quite was very comfortable and clean. Ate at restaurants on site a couple of times. Good was pricey and not all that good. I suppose you pay for the view and convenience though.
Perched atop the Pacific Coast Highway right outside of Carmel, this place is spectacularly beautiful even when the weather is cold and rainy. In fact, it's almost better that way, because you can take advantage of the in-room wood burning fireplaces to make your stay as snuggly as can be. It's the perfect place for a romantic getaway - you might not want to leave the room!
We selected this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary--it was well worth the cost. The service is outstanding, the view really beautiful, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We were disappointed with the service at the restaurant. Made a reservation and mentioned it was to celebrate our 25th anniversary--no acknowledgement, no congratulations--we were disappointed.
Loved it, finally a hotel up to my standards!!! It is for rich people only.
Awesome view of the ocean. Love the wood burning fireplace. Breakfast was delicious. Staff very professional and attentive
Views of the Pacific Ocean. Had to wait one hour for our room, even though we arrived at 3:30. The wait staff in the dining room was totally disjointed and seemed to lack any direction by a manager on duty.
View and fire place in room No
The place is very good. The wifi needs more improvement.
