Located in Chã das Caldeiras, casa alcindo offers a bar. Featuring a 24-hour front desk, this property also provides guests with a restaurant. Guests can enjoy mountain views. At the bed and breakfast, every room includes a wardrobe. Every room comes with a private bathroom with a shower. A continental breakfast is available daily at the property.
Pros: The owners are very welcoming and attentive to their guest. We were served a delicious lunch upon arrival. We were shown where the trails were to hike up the smaller mountain. We were shown multiple videos of when the volcano erupted in 2014.
Cons: One of my friends got sick during the night and we didn't have access to drinking water or emergency services (due to no phones).
Pros: Wery kind owners and stuff. Delicious food. Nice and useful patio.
Pros: Super welcome, Laetitia was amazing, very good lunch - both day, super view on Fogo, great sky in the night, climbing to the top of volcano so .... super There was not hot water on the bath, but it was no problem, if you gooing to the mountain, you must expect that there is no all comfort.
Cons: Clothes - hanger hi, hi
Pros: We had a very nice stay. Staff is very friendly and does its best to make your stay a pleasant one. We enjoyed the dinner each night. There is one set menu. It was delicious. It is ideal as base to hike up and around. Guides will be happily provided.
Cons: Take note that you are based inside the caldera of the volcano. Electricity is generated by solar panels and water is precious. Don't expect (hot, running water) to take a shower.
Pros: First, one has to take into consideration that the location of this "hotel" is in a volcanic crater at the end of quite a long and difficult dirt and cinder road. There is no provision of electricity or water for this "town", they must make their own electricity with solar panels and bring in water from quite a long distance once the collected rainwater has been used up. As a result, no hot water, minimal lighting and power available, no internet provided. If one accepts these conditions, then the quality of the hotel and room are of a very high standard. When one sees what they were able to build on top of a recent lava flow, it is quite remarkable that such a nice place could exist there. The location itself is amazing and unique. We have visited many volcanic islands and stayed in hotels or apartments there, but this one was clearly different than all the rest. It must be seen first hand to appreciate it fully. The hostess, Laetitia, was very kind, helpful, friendly and she and her husband were highly motivated to make an eco-friendly and very "local" oriented hotel and restaurant. The food was also very good and used as much as possible the local products. Our highest praise for this effort. Note that Laetitia also set us up with a guide to climb Pico do Fogo at the last minute (the evening prior to climbing it) which was also highly appreciated.
Cons: Just a minor thing: the beds were a bit hard and noisy (creaking). Also, if you drive in yourself, get good directions in advance because it is not easy to find, especially at night!
Pros: The food was excellent.
Cons: Cold showers.
Pros: The location is stunning and the staff were all so friendly, even though none spoke much English! The food was amazing each day too.
Cons: The showers were cold, but after a days hiking that is not too bad!
Pros: Lovely location. Great food. Very helpful service in booking an excellent hiking guide for me.
Pros: The room is quite big! The staff is very friendly and french lady was very helpful to make the best out of our short stay! Felt welcomed upon the first minute! The food is also very good!
With a stay at Casa Marisa in Sao Filipe, you'll be 6.3 mi (10.1 km) from Fogo National Park and 25 mi (40.2 km) from Church Our Lady of Conception. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A shuttle from the airport to the hotel is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
Pros: A fantastic experience. The warm floor heated from the recent eruption is extrordinary. Very welcoming and friendly.
Pros: It’s built on a lava flow! What more could you want out of a hotel at a volcano? It is communal, encourages exchange, and the people couldn’t do more to help you. You have hot water and 24/7 electricity when the village isn’t on the distribution network. It’s really fantastic what they’ve built out of nothing.
Cons: Nothing! I don’t understand what anyone complains about here. You are in a volcanic cone and you’re looking for free WiFi? You’re in a nice hotel one of the most spectacular wonders of the country in a place that was destroyed five years ago and you complain about anything? Perspective people!
Pros: Everything else! The people were friendly and organised everything for olus, the food was very good and quite exotic, the room was clean and nice. Checking out was also very good. Our flight was in the afternoon but they allowed us to stay longer in the room because they didn't need it which was very nice!
Cons: Our room was quite hot, our guide told us it was because a few metres under our room there was a lava lake. It was a bit uncomfortable, but manageable.
Pros: The setting for this accommodation is phenomenal - set as it is amongst a new lava field with a direct view to the Fogo volcano! The owner, Mustafa, has a wealth of knowledge of the island, and can arrange anything and everything you could want and need in the area - a guide, transfers to/from Sao Filipe (including via Mosteiro, if you choose to hike down that way from the crater), various trails and routes etc. We chose a bungalow for our 2-night stay, and would recommend this option to other travelers, not only for the privacy and views, but for the viewing deck on the roof of the bungalow, which is a great place to spend the afternoon after hiking the volcano!
Cons: My only complaint, which is minor given the stunning location, was the bedding - pillows that were too big (I resorted to using folded up towels as a pillow) and a bed that squeaked every time I rolled over. It made for 2 nights of interrupted sleep, but again, it was minor when you can wake up, look out the door, and see a huge volcano in front of you!!!
Pros: Very nice place to stay, built on the recent lava inside of the volcano crater with a view to its highest point. You can still feel warm floor when walking barefoot in the room. Beautiful night sky, delicious dinner and helpful staff. Recommended!
Pros: the location is simply astonishing, right in the middle of the caldera. Marisa and Mustafa did a great job in rebuilding Casa Marisa after the 2014 eruption; they're very friendly, helpful and their staff too. it's a magic place, and they're improving it day by day adding little extras. we liked as well the food and the beverages (try the local white wine!) we also appreciated a lot the effort to enrich the local community - for example, Mustafa, who's a mountain guide, is training local guides for climbing, hiking up to the Pico do Fogo, going on the via ferrata he set up climbing the Bordeira (the old volcano rim), etc. besides guiding you, they'll explain and tell you many interesting things about that particular environment. the people are very friendly, and it's nice seeing a relaxed and open community, the kids wandering around, the locals greeting you and stopping by just for a chat. the rooms are bright, large and clean, and the overall sensation is very relaxing and peaceful. Casa Marisa - and the Cha das Caldeiras - is not a place for those who prefer a "luxury resort style" holiday, also because of its location and the logitics: but that's also one of the main reasons it is an extraordinary place.
Pros: Very nice and helpful host Mustafa. He organized a guide to Pico for us and helped my husband to recover from the flu he got earlier. The whole place is perfect as a base for hiking. The staff is really nice and you have a feeling being a guest at some family gathering. The meals are delicious. We didn't expect THAT quality.
Pros: Nice cozy place with excellent food and great hosts.
Cons: All great
Pros: Mustafa and Marisa were great hosts, and helped arrange transport and a guided hike. Casa Marisa is in a truly amazing setting!
Pros: The owner was very nice. Gave me their shoes to climb to vulcano)
With a stay at Pensao Casa José Doce in Sao Filipe, you'll be close to Pico do Fogo and Fogo National Park. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. A shuttle from the airport to the hotel is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: -Location -it was clean
Cons: -Food really expensive compared to other places in cha das caldeiras (and not better or more abundant) -perfect place for French speaking people, for portuguese/english/any other language not that good since the owners clearly prefer to speak just French.
Pros: He was super friendly, anything you ask he do it for you. Was easy to organise things with him. For example the transfer and a guide for hiking the vulcano, he fixed everything. The location was amazing. The room was good but simple, lovely warm shower and it was clean.
Cons: Not a big deal but seems like he was not very confident with speaking english, when there was french people around he only spoke french with them and we didnt understand anything. So if you wanna visit this place learn frence haha.
Pros: Design Clean Close to volcano Good food Friendly host
Cons: Expensive food and drinks for our budget
Pros: Location was great. Plenty of toilets and showers (Only one hot shower apparently but I have no problem taking a cold shower), unique building. Guide and taxis easily organised. Jose was friendly enough with us.
Cons: Trying to put us in a cheap double room when I had booked a twin (had the booking.com reservation for proof), then making it sound like he was doing us a favour by putting us in a twin, and then asking for a good review because of it. Food and drinks very overpriced. Squeaky bed (I move a lot in my sleep). Overall more expensive than expected.
Pros: The location is incredible, I can't recommend highly enough. Very friendly staff who can organise your trip up the volcano easily for you, and provide lunch and dinner including vegetarian food. The property looks nice and is clean, with areas inside and outside for relaxing.
Cons: In general the facilities are fairly basic, for example there is only hot water sometimes and that water can be extremely hot and there is no wifi, but I think that is normal for staying in Chas- if you want luxury accommodation it probably isn't the right place for you to come
Pros: Staying at José Doce's is an EXPERIENCE on its own, not only because of the location - in the Portela village in the caldera, but set aside from the "centre", reached by a 5 min walk - but for the people running it. José and Carole are amazing, truly good people with whom you feel at home - it is their home, after all!. They go the extra mile to recommend what to do and how, solve problems you may have (and we did, both logistics and health), and make you feel great. The place is simple, comfort is basic, but then, this is as much as the conditions in Cha das Caldeiras can offer, and a big part of the charm. Jose built most of the house himself, and continues to expand it. Plus, this was one of the few houses not engulfed by the lava in 2014. José and Carole can arrange excursions (we did to Pico and to one of the lava tubes), car rental and all meals in the pensao (which is convenient); the latter are not very varied, but are tasty and nutritious, and prepared with love. Carole speaks English and French, José speaks Portuguese and French - but we talked in Spanish and it worked out well :)
Cons: Nothing? Make sure you understand this is no "common" accommodation for European standards tough. If you want to experience Cha das Caldeiras, make sure to stay 3-4 nights here, with no wifi, no noise, only you, the volcano and very nice people.
Cons: It was a really terrible experience, one of the worst of our lifes. The host, José, just assumed we would go with him on a tour to the vulcano and when we said we already had plans with another guide that was recommended to us by some friends he got really mad at us and refused to give us breakfast the next day. We tried to talk to him and make an arrangement that would make everyone happy but he was a really difficult person to talk to and at some point in the conversation just started laughing randomly like a maniac. All the electricity and power were turned off at ten p.m. without any warning so we had to pack our bags and brush teeth and etc. in the dark and our phones could not be charged (which was very bad because we wanted to take pictures of the vulcano the next day). In conclusion, we do not recommend this place to anyone and we just wished someone had warned us before we went there.
Pros: The accommodation overall. Simple but nice bedroom. (pillows could be made more comfy...
Cons: I would have liked more options for lunch and dinner... It was a nicely prepared meal but mostly chicken available... Also maybe one more hot shower room would be great! Only one was available!
Pros: It's a very well decorated accommodation, with a great artistic taste. Rooms are basic but comfortable. The concept is cool, made with lava and solar panels :)
Cons: Jose is simply a very greedy person. He doesn't care at all about your stay. Only wants your money. If you do what he wants everything will be ok, if you don't accept an overpriced meal or doing the Pico Grande hike with his guide then be ready for a bad look and being treated differently. He cooked exactly the same food the four meals I was there. Chicken/dry fish with vegetables and a banana, not even a rice to accompany with or a drink!! And charged 10€ for each meal, over priced because he knows there aren't many other choices around. The breakfast is really poor: a small banana and a dry bread from the day before with jam (not even butter as they ran out of it, I suppose). when he cooks for two, what is left can't be shared with anyone else, he'll take the left overs for himself and everyone has to pay 10€ regardless is a vegetarian (no different meal, just the vegetable without the chicken) or not. after refusing eating there he'll go constantly out of the kitchen to make sure that the other guests didn't give me anything from their meal. Just a crazy man!!! A room for one person has the same price than for three, 30€. I'm a solo traveler and that's not a fare deal. A price for a guided tour to Pico Grande or pequenho is 60€ and he insisted and promised me that I'll be in a group that himself organize as I couldn't pay all this money by myself, when I woke up 5'30am for the excursion we where only two. I payed 11.000 escudos for two nights, a guided tour with an other friend, a dinner and a bottle of local wine... abusive to my point of understanding a backpacking experience. Will avoid for sure bext time I go to Cha das Caldeiras, there's many other accommodations with a better service than Jose Doce's. Honestly I don't think he's a good person, he's not sincere and only sees euros on your face....
Pros: Location is just the best. Also great guides for hiking the Pico, rooms are fine. Also, the meals are delicious and Jose and his family are very nice. Playing games, drinking, dancing, singing, hiking, we had a great time.
Cons: It is at a remote place. Bring some snacks for hiking/chilling, everything else (drinks/meals) they got covered. Also, private taxi to get there is a lot of money, (but worth it compared to aluguer, as you can stop at some really nice places along the way.)
You'll be centrally located in Sao Filipe with a stay at The Colonial Guest House, and 4 minutes by foot from Church Our Lady of Conception. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Colonial atmosphere, breakfast
Cons: Noise of AC of neighbours an of swimming pool cleaning in the night and early morning, dirty floors. No fridge (you mayexpect this for this prize), no possibility to get fresh air in the night without leaving your door open. Very expensive glas of wine compared to all other locations
Pros: Beautiful place right in the center of São Filipe. Old colonial house perfectly restored with a lot of fine details and decorations. I enjoyed very much a small romantic patio that took part of my room. The swimming pool area is also great to relax. Excellent location with cafe/ restaurant and travel agency in the zero floor. Fully recommended!
Pros: Nice spot, the room was really cute, I loved the terrace at the first floor.
Cons: The room at the ground floor is slightly noisy.
Pros: Amazing location and structure. Great pool. Cozy and comfortable rooms. Staff nice and kind.
Pros: This is a lovely old colonial building, located right in the heart of the town. Staff were lovely, and check-in was a breeze. We had a sea facing room with a small balcony, which was nice to look out towards the island of Brava. Breakfast was one of the better ones we've had in our travels around Cape Verde, set in a lovely open courtyard right next to the guesthouse, with very attentive staff. The swimming pool and attached seating area was an unexpected bonus, as was the free shuttle to the nearby airport!
Cons: Despite advertising air conditioning in the room, our room only had a fan, making for a rather hot night. Also, the bathroom for our particular room, while private to us, was located in a separate area of the building. For this reason alone I wouldn't be able to stay more than a couple nights here as I am just too used to an ensuite.
Pros: The place, the room, the style, the help they gave us to organize our day at Fogo
Cons: The Girl at the reception on the day we arrived. Very poor English, not really kind
Pros: The building is a sobrado from the 1880's and has some atmosphere. Situated in the middle of old San Felipe, it is convenient for shops, restaurants, markets and transport.
Cons: We had high expectations, based on the description and booked a room with balcony for nearly two weeks. On arrival we were put hurriedly into a room at the back, upper level without balcony, windows frosted and directly facing a noisy street – no view at all! The rooms at the back are noisy, with vehicle fumes and dingy (see photo). By the time we had ascertained the situation the manager had left for the evening. Next morning, after a very bad night, we met the manager and she admitted that the hotel was overbooked. Rather than spend another night in “Room 6 dungeon”, we were put in a local hotel (Bellevue) with a small room, much cheaper than Colonial, but very clean (and quiet) with a nice simple breakfast. On the third night we could finally claim the room we had booked. Hence the first two days of our stayed were ruined. We noticed that other guests also appeared to be suffering similar fate. Whilst the building has character (ignoring the large self-advertising posters which detract from the appearance), the colonial style has been poorly maintained in the rooms and the electric fittings are inept – with electric cables pinned carelessly into the door-frames and across the ceiling. The notices about not bringing own food into the hotel and cafe (Fogo Lounge) and, in particular, about not putting feet on the seats, are insulting and do not match the typical educated independent traveller clientele. The buffet breakfast was not very appetizing, prepared in an open kitchen with large numbers of flies and some ants (much more so than at other nearby restaurants). If not arriving soon after breakfast started, the warm food would be almost cold. There was no orange juice on offer and for several days no black tea bags (we ended up “smuggling” in our own tea bags). We did order omelette once or twice but the request was rather unwillingly accepted. The 3% surcharge for credit card payment should be made clear in the booking.com conditions.
Pros: Beautiful old house colonial style. Very helpful staff, good food
Cons: just missing a towel bath mat.... after shower the floor gets wet so a small bath mat would make it much more confortsble
Pros: Wonderful classical house, increadibly well preserved and decorated. Excellent location. Very attentive and friendly staff.
Cons: Supplying a small bottle of shampoo/ conditioner would have been an extra pampering we would have liked. A waste bin in the room is also a tiny but valuable luxury.
Pros: The hotel is in a beautiful old houde
Cons: The room didn’t have AC or a ceiling fan ... it was a sauna experience We booked with an external private bathroom.... and we got it But it was very poorly for the price Summary: disillusioned stay

Pros: Very clean, great location. The owner is a very nice and helpful lady
Cons: The room is very small, almost impossible to move with bags for 2 people.
Pros: Good Bed
Cons: Sometimes the surroundings can be a bit noisy
Pros: Nice clean rooms. Friendly hospitality and perfect organisation of a trip to the Vulcano.
Pros: After our climb of Pico do Fogo we really appreciated the shower at Girassol. We also enjoyed the wall thru town to Tropical restaurant for wonderful dinner.
Cons: We liked everything.
Pros: We loved the tasty breakfasts, super hot showers, new mattress, fresh air and balcony. We did not mind the 5 minute walk down to restaurants. The owner, Enriqueta, called a competent taxi driver for us to take a round the island tour, and also to go to Cha da Caldeira.
When you stay at Hotel Xaguate in Sao Filipe, you'll be 11 minutes by foot from Church Our Lady of Conception. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The hotel has seen better days and would need renovating but not devoid of some quaint charm, especially the bar and the pool. Definitely worth a visit.
Cons: The staff should have more command of foreign languages.
Pros: The pool area was great, and good air condition. was inconvenient not having a restaurant which was open at least during the evenings, and then the bar with some food was even closed on the Sunday.?
Cons: The WiFi did not work at all in my room, and I needed it for my work purposes there.?
Pros: Pool has a great location / view
Cons: - Staff was not particularly flexible in trying to arrange a cab for us to go to Cha das Caldeiras (base of the volcano) - room is a bit small

Casa Beiramar is set in São Filipe. The accommodation offers free WiFi, as well as a terrace and a restaurant. Guests at the guest house can enjoy a continental breakfast.
Pros: Location, building
Cons: Impractical interior design, dark rooms
Cons: Exposed wiring, no window in room , poor WiFi
Pros: The view of Brava, from our balcony, on a clear day was beautiful. The fresh bread, from the bakery just around the corner, was very good.
Cons: Broken & rickety chairs. Tatty bed sheets & lights not working. Very expensive & just not value for money.
Pros: The stuff tried to help, but we didn't understand each other.
Cons: The breakfast was bad, the eggs were made with old oil and smelled really disgusting, the room with sea view is in a really bad condition.
Pros: Very nice gently renovated sobrado right in front of the main church in the historical center of Sao Filipe. The single room does not have a sea view but I felt comfy there in the courtyard. The room has a private toilet and bathroom with hot water. Nice breakfast with delicious coffee. I also recommend to try the local bottled water Água do Fogo - the best taste so far in Cape Verde.
Pros: Camila, the employee is very nice.
Cons: The hotel is located in a beautiful house with a nice patio, close to the sea, however, it is very badly kept, no attention to details, seems abandoned. Could be a really nice place with better management.
Pensão Fatima is offering accommodation in São Filipe. Free WiFi and room service are offered. The guest house offers a sun terrace.
Pros: Nice staff, we came very early but they managed to clean the room so we could rest. Very reasonable price for a good quality.
Cons: The hotel is on top of the hill, so it is quite difficult to get on foot with a baby stroller.
Pros: Location on Coast Road, Church Square.
Cons: Bit of traffic noise, as vehicles pass.
Pros: Location. Not far from everything. The staff was helpful and friendly. The terrace.
Cons: 1. No information that you need to do the checkin in the other hotel. You will read this information only on the door of your hotel. Then with all your bags you have to go uphill to that hotel, do the checkin and go back. 2. Wifi. They installed now router there and WiFi was supposed to work. Nobody knew the password. As all staff located in the other hotel makes the communication difficult. 3. Communication with staff. If you need smth (like toilet paper, for example) first you need to go to other hotel... 4. Price. Too expensive for such kind of accommodation. We were in the room with private bathroom. There were only two rooms like that. In the first one was no toilet seat, in other one no door to the toilet at all.
Pros: Good value for money
Cons: Dont expect a lot of luxury (for example wifi) for this price
Pros: Nice staff Cool balcony and terrace with passion fruits Big and well furnished room
Pros: Close to the beach, nice balcony, wi-fi
Cons: Dirty bathroom, dirty floors, dirty terrace
Pros: Just the lady in the checkout, she was the only person who was very kind and even let me do a late checkout.
Cons: Very bad. There was no one in the house to receive me, and nobody told me that I had to grab the keys at another hotel keeped by the owner, wich is a 7min uphill walk from Pensão Fatima. After that, the room that I was suppose to stay was not ready, so they gave me another room downstairs, wich has no access to Wi-Fi, neither to the balcony on top of the building. And at the end, they gave me the wrong key, so when I got back from the dinner, I realized that the key was not from my room and I had to go again to the other hotel uphill to grab the wright key. And I hope you like animals, because a cockroach, a giant spider and a lizard made me company during my stay. Very bad experience, don't recommend at all.
Pros: Cheapest place to stay in Sao Felipe.
Cons: Pensao Fatima is a cheaper residence from the owners of The Colonial in Sao Felipe. On the photos on booking.com, there were very nice pictures of the room, but they were from The Colonial. Pensao Fatima is very basic, but the cheapest you can find in Sao Felipe.
