i didnt like the fact that there was no air conditioning. the heat was overpowering and the rooms were too hot and stuffy to be comfortable
The canal cruise, the spa. Noise from traffic, no air conditioning
the temperature in the spa/swimming pool was too cold.
Located close to the city centre, friendly staff and nice pool. The breakfast was also quite good, and the room was spacious and comfortable. We had a room on the side of the hotel facing the dual carriageway and it was quite noisy.
fantastic restaurant and entertainment bedrooms a little dated but still an enjoyable stay
The bar was nice and had a good atmosphere, and plenty of different beers to choose from. Very comfortable, and nice pool etc for relaxing. We stayed on a Friday night so the restaurant was closed which limited the eating options. We didn't want to have a dinner/dance, I get ill on boats, the pizza place was only for snacks and the bar was full, so we ended up having to eat in town.
Very close to the city centre and all shops and amenities. Hotel pool and spa was extremely relaxing. Hotel very clean and was really pleased with the free upgrade for our wedding anniversary. Would definitely stay again.
thought there may have been a bigger selection of hot food on breakfast buffet
The Staff were very obliging and the restaurant service was excelent Lack of lounge facilities. During our pre-dinner drinks, We were asked to leave the residents lounge early Saturday evening due to it being reserved for the boat party. The other small lounge near reception was very crowded as was the bar area/football lounge
Excellent position for access to the city centre. Super leisure facilities.Excellent staff very friendly. Nice meals. Surprised that it is only 3 star deserves more. We were upgraded to a higher level room on arrival. Nothing
We were a little disappointed with our room - we stayed in the classic suite and have stayed in many 4 star hotels which have far nicer rooms.
We were celebrating our Silver Wedding - this was a last minute deal and we managed to secure a room for about 50% less of normal rate - on arrival the staff were attentive and after we told them about our Silver Wedding a small complimentary cake was left in the room. We had an automatic upgrade to i think a Classic Deluxe room, which was amazing. This is truly a 5 * hotel, and although only for one night - it lives up to everything described on their website - Amazing... The only thing i would say - is we were not told very much about the SPA facilities, it was a case of find out for yourself - but as we were only in the hotel for one night it wasnt really an issue.
It was beautiful, clean and luxurious. The staff were very friendly & helpful. An added touch that they would park the car for you - made a big difference on a busy saturday. The food in the Simon Radley restaurant was lovely and the staff were great. We had a fab time.
Polite and helpful staff, beautiful room, excellent food and facilities. Everything you should be entitled to expect from a 5star hotel.
The breakfast was superb. Both food and service were exceptional. The room was dark. The weather was bad and therefore the light outside was poor, but I was unable to find a position where I could sit and read comfortably. There was not a light which I could sit under.
Excellent customer care in every way. Always ready to help but not intrusive. Nothing
I was upgraded to the Presidential Suite which is normally £1400 per night. Amazing hotel!!!!
The bed was awesome All good
Great customer service and attitude of staff Prob with hot water making tea lukewarm!
The situation is ideal A little disappointed with 'The Brasserie'
the room was very noisey
the way 2 staff chatted with a guest whilst others were waiting to be served. came accross as quite rude
to pay for carparking in there carpark when you have paid them over £300 to stay for to nights
Quality much like all in chain but staff very friendly and efficient, keen to please Nothing
There was an air of unobtrusive efficiency Many of the breakfast plates were dirty!
location of hotel breakfast on saturday was poor - not enough food, poor service. had to sort ourselves out and after requesting items still did not gwet them. have filled in complaint to hotel as above
Comfort of room.
nothing. did not like my stay at the hotel at all,to start with no room left in parking, the shower in our room was not good, the bar staff where not very nice and very expensive for what it is .will not be returning.
The hotel was kept to a very high standard and we were pleased with every aspect of it
The Staff were generally very helpful. The decor is certainly querky but if anything too dark and depressing. It detracts from what could be a nice hotel.
breakfasts were excellent wide choice of dishes staff very helpfull romm was very clean
Convenient location, car parking available, good breakfast and generally good value. The hotel is old and "tired" and shows its age. But it was clean. Bathroom facilities could do with updating as could bedroom decor..
The welcoming staff and the warm friendly atmosphere. The room was clean and the food was very good Being charged £10 per day for car parking
Good breakfast The cleaner left the rubbish bag on the chair after cleaning. Unable to get the WiFi working on my laptop
good staff nice big hotel
Loved the cocktails!! Excellent bar staff. Good morning breakfast set us up nicely for a day's shopping Throughly enjoyed our whole stay
The location of the hotel handy for the train and a free bus to the centre was excellent. Breakfast was one of the best I've had. Hotel staff very friendly Our room was at the front of the hotel, this was very noisy thoughout the night and early hours due to taxi rank outside and parties leaving hotel
convenience for city centre and out of town journey The migraine-inducing carpet, especially on the stairs! Why do hotels DO this?
Beautiful hotel, lovely room, fantastic breakfast. Close to shops, great choice of bars and restaurants near by. Really enjoyed our stay. Downside's, Bath in our room was too short, could not lie down in it. The room although beautiful, felt a little cramped, to much furniture me thinks!
oasis of calm, spacious comfortable room, spacious bathroom, most friendly and helpful staff.
Very helpful staff, lovely atmosphere, good food, good sports facilities.
The most Friendly service
It has a great location, very fine restautant. In fact we wish we had more time to enjoy the hotel and its facilities.
Quality hotel ,, great service from all the staff ...
Staff were all friendly, ambience was excellent, beautiful peaceful grounds and hotel. The room windows must have been open for about a week, I spent the first hour of checking in killing all the mosquito's and flies in the room.
-Very quiet place, although there were weddings - close to Chester - nice rooms the music in the dinig room, always the same or nothing, not professional
The hotelitself was lovely, well decorated adn luxuirous, the spa area was fantastic. We ate in the restaurant and the the service and food were both fab!
The extremely attentive staff who made this hotel such a world apart from so called "posh hotels". Beautiful situation, close to Chester and yet in the middle of nowhere. One of my better choices. The other reviews have an element of truth regarding the requirement for updating the decor.
Breakfast was great .How nice to have a freshly cooked breakfast though new crockery urgently needed Stained cracked crockery every morning for breakfast,Leaking radiator,(reported but not mended in the three days we stayed) very dirty window ledges, carpet edes and doors hand/finger smudges on doors which did wipe away with a little effort, therefore one felt that the cleaning was below standard and not observed by management.
Comfortables beds Reception area too dark
Central location, new and modern Poor breakfast, pricey and limited parking
Excellent location - 2 minute walk to the city centre. Room was amazing value for money - standard room would have been the equivalent to a luxury room in many hotels. Breakfast was delivered to our room free of charge. Will definitely stay there again.
Modern Friendly staff, the decor in exec room superb, minimalist and cool, next time will eat there, but a good hotel
close to city with comfortable rooms excellent parking and a fantastic michael caine restaurant . staff very polite and helpful
Very good location for shopping and to visit Michael Caines Restaurant Our original room was noisy, however the hotel were very good about changing room. The Michael Caines restaurant was cold and noisy from the Champagne bar next door. The food was excellent
The room we stayed in was very nice, very big and modern styling. The staff were very helpful and there was always somebody on reception if you needed them. The car park is alittle bit tight to drive around and the pillows were hard but there only little things to worry about.
Excellent room.Breakfast very good Trying to get in was difficult as was parking
The location was ideal for shopping, short walk to the centre although quite steep if anyone is infirm the inconsideration of other hotel guests who have been out for the night and come back in the middle of the night along corridors being very loud and banging doors, perhaps a notice on all lifts and landing doors saying quiete please think of other guests !!!
Parking facilities and location to town center
The locality and the car parking facility. None
Convenient to town centre Bed Mattress needs changing Hollow in middle.!!!!!!!!!!!
The welcome on arrival at reception. The quality of the Wi-Fi Broadband in the rooms and lobby. The no-nonsense breakfast fare. Lining up for the various breakfast items was a bit unorganised and free-for-all.
clean rooms, helpful staff, free parking. breakfast a bit of a free for all.
Good value for money and very close to the town centre, ideal and convenient for Christmas shopping. The cook food for breakfast was very limited, just scrambled egg and sausages.
Willingness of staff to do extras - order taxis, keep suitcases etc
Excellent location to celebrate my friends 40th birthday Some contents were stolen from the boot of my car whilst in the car park
Comfortable, clean rooms for a few hours sleep. Basic but exactly what would be required of a crash-pad. Only food available is breakfast. If you're hungry at any other time you only have a vending machine.
the location was excellant. the quite luxury of the lounges . Food was very good and service from waitresses was first class.A very enjoyable stay. some more local information ie.history etc of the hotel and abbey as reading matter in the public rooms.
Close to Daresbury Labs - anonymous Poor service in the bar. Very mediocre Caesar salad, white wine not sufficiently chilled. Cold fried eggs at breakfast - bacon etc all a bit greasy.
convenient location, freindly staff my room was not clean and extremely hot
The Staff at the Leisure Club were very helpful. The Hotel room we were given had some serious problems with the radiator pipes which resulted in noisy vibrations which were so loud it was impossible to sleep in the room. We were allocated a new room however customer service was found to be lacking as no one would answer the phone at reception and when we went down in person we were just given another key with no offer of an apology, assistance in moving rooms or a refund.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the place was clean and tidy although the room was warm and i was pleased i stayed on a cold autumn night and not a hot summer one.
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff (in particular the housekeeper). Good breakfast selection. Generally well run Toilet flush inadequate. Windows difficult to close (it was open when we arrived and I had to go outside to close it (room 165)) jacuzzi and poolside shower not operational on the Sunday
Convenient location for Liverpool,Manchester,Chester and touring the area, good local pubs nearby especially Ring O Bells. Good leisure facilities. Evening meal in restaurent was poor.
Very good service No walk-in shower
We enjoyed the food and the rooms and thecountryarea, we weren't too impressed with the narrow roads for our big rental car. All told we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Only issue was the the internet was down for the first 2 days. We booked here specifically for this as we work while travelling and this was a problem for us.
Very pleasant surroundings. Nice food, comfortable clean room No, except that its a little confusing when you arrive to know where to find the reception area. We were charged for someone else's meals and stay instead of our own, however this rectified speedily oncec it was pointed out.
Friendliness, excellent food and superb surroundings.
The ambience of the bar / lounge area. There was no where to relax after dinner as all areas were taken over by tables. Because of the wooden floors, it is noisy if you are located on teh ground floor. Carpets in the upstairs rooms would help.
Very friendly staff and good food. Lovely location. The room we were initially shown to had not been cleaned or made up. However, we were immediately upgraded to an executive room as recompense, so no real complaint there.
beautiful setting & lovely rooms, furnished to the highest standard
pleasant and friendly staff, clean and cosy room with amazing views
The rooms were lovely; really well decorated and very clean The complimentary breakfast was not very generous
The staff, the setting, the meals were all excellent. Nice to have my dog able to join us in the hotel. I have no faults to find at all with the hotel
Evening food value, and good rage of Real Ales Poor service at breakfast.
the location and the shower the missing remote, the lack of hairdryer and shocking breakfast.
The central location and the "Old World Charm" - very charming and very atmospheric. Also staff were friendly, helpful and service was extremely quick. Breakfast was good and freshly made. Facilities were clean and comfortable. Our room was over the public bar and was a bit noisy - luckily we didn't stay on the Karaoke night! Beer deliveries started quite early (but to be fair much what you'd expect staying in a very old but lively city centre pub).
The hotel was in the centre, good food, great staff, And next time we go back to chester we are going right back to the pied bull
a lovely traditional pub, and the staff were all very friendly - the food in the restaurant was excellent. The room was a bit lopsided but to be honest it added to the charm of the place so we actually quite liked it.
friendly staff we had lunch there and was very good breakfast was poor , and we had to wait 30 minutes to be served
old world charm. we booked the 4 poster room which was very good. food was only ok. could have been better.
City center location is ideal for shops, bars, restaurants. Street noise at night (we stayed on a Friday night). Breakfast was extremely slow - 30-40 minutes wait time. Corners of the bathroom floor looked as if they hadn't been cleaned for many years. Cleaner knocked on our room door in spite of 'do not disturb' sign.
The staff were fantastic especially Luke the manage,r food was excellent, the beds very comfortable had a great time and will go back soon No it was fantastic
The atmosphere in the public bar and the cleanliness of the room the mattresses were very uncomfortable, we had to use the bed covers to stop the springs attacking us!
all in all ok if you need a bed then its ok staff were polite not as friendly as some of the comparative hotels Busy but overflow car park rear with poor signs to advice you Room had signs of where and tear and looking a little worn Rooms compact
Location and the residents bar open till 4 am
The staff were extremely pleasant in all areas my sister and I commented on how friendly everyone was. nothing
lovely room bar prices a little expensive
swimming pool bathroom suit needs modenisation
i liked the leisure faciities especially the swimming pool which was large and very well kept. the breakfast was fine but some things were slightly over cooked.
Very good location, with park and ride next door. All was good
Good quality hotel, but see points below. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. No Air Conditioning, no mini-bar, too close to main road with windows open as too hot without air con.
very comfortable room and good leisure facilities. pleasent relaxed restaurant serving excellent food.
It was comfortable, had all the facilities I needed on my overnight visit. Most importantly it was just the right temperature, hotels can be too hot! and I liked the speedy pay as you go system.
hotel location room size and bed size in 'standard' room
Hotel was tastefully decorated and re-furbished, and was excellent value for money, we had a fantastic stay! The hotel was extremely warm, even with the windows open, and it was snowing outside!! the radiators were always on full heat!
The location was fantastic, and the hotel itself was beautiful. The staff were abrupt, for example when I checked in I explained I had tried to call on several occasions with regard to parking. The receptionist was very abrupt and said 'I've been on my own all day, alright?' Not my problem as far as I'm concerned. Also, the lift is very claustrophic! and I'm not Claustrophobic!!!
location, room size and cleanliness, choice at breakfast was good.Nice to see a choice of fish. Ithought the price of drinks in the bar were over the top.
Location and comfort of the hotel Breakfast was a bit chaotic and service could have been quicker
It's central position is the only reason we choose to stay at the Blossoms. However thinfs have improved since the re vamp, although there are still areas that need attention. The light fitting falling off the wall, that needed to be fixed. The broken crockery that had to be replaced, the requested wine glasses that never materialised, the ice bucket that took two requests to arrive, and the non exsistant phone call that we asked for to tell us our room was ready.
Unfortunately we did not stay at the Blossoms, we were moved to the Craxton Wood Hotel and were not impressed.
Excellent location and superb service as always at this hotel None other than could have done with a week of been pampered !
Excellant location and value for money. The car park is offsite if the weather is bad or an elderly person is with you.
The fetaures of the room fitted well with the period features of Chester. Felt that it may have needed air conditioning, as on the day we stayed it was extremely clammy!
the location was excellent, and staff friendly and trying their best. General cleanliness in rooms was poor. toilet filthy on arrival ( was cleaned after complaint )cobwebs on bedside lamps, dust on tables and TV, menu was quite expensive, and very limited.
The central position / excellent shower No wardrobe
both luxury of room and wonderful meal a little expensive but not too bad
The quirkiness of the room Having to pay for breakfast on top of pricey room. We needed early breakfast so we could leave at 8am and this could not be accomadated. Earliest they could do was 8am - bit dissapointed about this as is was a birthday treat for my partner,
The design, layout, quality and fixtures in the room and venue too. The dim lighting within the whole venue. More light is needed espescially over mirrors (for ladies applying makeup).
Lovely room with twin baths and very comfy bed. Staff very pleasant. My dinner in the restaurant was the smallest main course I have ever been served . It was appalling, I would not have the nerve to send something out so small if I were a chef-not good value for money . At a guess, I would say they are using one fish to get 4-6 portions. I didn't want to make a fuss and complain on the night as it was our wedding anniversary! I do feel that for the price of the room that breakfast should be included. We realised that it was not but because we wanted to stay at that hotel we decided to book anyway.
The hotel was smart and the rooms modern. Staff were generally helpful and the overall feel of the place was friendly. In the morning there was difficulty accommodating everyone for breakfast and we had to wait over 20 minutes to be shown to a table - I was told that this is a regular occurrence so beware if you've got an appointment to keep at a weekend! (Also, bizarrely, the invoice online and the printed copy said the cost was £59 but my card bill showed £61...couldn't quite work this one out!)
Lack of info about their facilities. The hotel room didn't have any info saying what time breakfast was served or what time checkout was. This would have been useful. They also have a good gym and pool apparently but I couldn't find any info about it in the room.
It was noisy. Noise in the pipes and noise from disco downstairs, we were on the lst floor at the back
Location to station Being charged to use credit card, Cold foo both at breakfast and dinner Broken fittings in room particularly bathroom
Quick check-in, good location close to town, good facilities Parking limited, limited Sky channels
Excellent hotel , very modern and in a great location . Can be a little noisy at night time but dont let that put you off
the room design, cleanliness staff can be more friendly
The staff were very helpful, food great, lots to do and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
the food was nice and the whole of the room the staff werent very friendly or approchable, or offer us more drinks
It was convenient for our visit to family and an event in the town. Bedside tables are impractical. The poor design made it quite dangerous to stand hot drinks on.
all fine except rooms dreadfully hot
Good service in the lounch. God service in the reception. The room was tidy. The chairs in the restaurans was dirty. The carpets in the hallway falling off. The breakfast was not redy at 6.30 and we where in a hurry.
comfortable bedroom. Was offered 2 hours free wi-fi, which was a reason for choosing the hotel. But it wasn't working.
Modern, friendly, quiet rooms Internet access. Far too expensive in this modern world
Gym Room was hot when I arrived
I found the hotel spacious, comfortable, clean and the staff professional and friendly. Food was to a good standard. Plenty of car parking spaces close to the hotel, which makes life easier.
The location. Close to motorway but with a peacefull environment. Long wait for dinner but we had not reserved a table in the restaurant. With hind site we would have opted for a bar meal. Would this have quicker service?
The hotel could do a lot more to cater for guests who smoke. They should also ensure that all the advertised facilities are available and alert guests on arrival if there are issues around the provision of certain services.
Staff were amenable to changing my room 3 times. First two rooms offered very dark and then very noisy next to air con unit. room 3 lovely. Breakfast ok but would prefer free range egg!
convienance Food was pricey
The hotel was set in beautiful surroundings with a full range of facilities. Although most came with a cost, we made much use of the swimming pool, which was free. The staff were really helpful, the food was delicious and the whole hotel was clean and tidy. Myself and my partner are already planning our next trip as we were only there for one night and this was not enough time to enjoy the resort to its full potential. The only minor issue we had is that it was difficult to get prices for any of the activities at the resort.
stayed at the hotel for a wedding the event, it ran very smoothly and all staff were very helpful. The overall ambiance of the facilities and the quality of the food was excellent.
Totally relaxing break in a beautiful location. Really lovely family room with the most comfortable beds. I travelled with my grandchildren aged 10 and 13 but if we sat in the bar, we were not approached by the bar staff although others were well looked after. I had to go to the bar to order drinks. Was this because of the children??
The room was lovely and the bathroom very spacious and well appointed. We were at a family engagemnt party and the standard of the food was excellent. The bath had the silliest plug ever as the water came out of the bath tap, straight down on to the swivel plug pushing it open every time I tried to fill it. I had to put a flannel and a full glass of water on it in the end to keep it closed. The bar prices were astronomical - I have stayed in some extremely high end hotels, such as Gleneagles and have come across nothing quite this expensive before. Although the food was excellent, the actual service was very slow indeed and there were long waits both at the start and, more importantly, between the courses. The waiting staff were competent but seemed very strained and worried all the time, which did take a bit of a shine off a vey joyful occasion.
Excellent rooms and comfortable accomodation, perfect for an overnight stay when en route. Friendly and welcoming staff add to the experience. The hotel's location off any major road and within a magnificent golf course setting ensures peace and quiet and a good night's sleep for those traveling. Our only criticism was the cost of meals in the brasserie. £24.50 for a lamb main course to which side courses must be added is unreasonable. If we stay at the Carden in future it would be cheaper to eat in Chester before checking in. It takes the edge of an otherwise excellent hotel.
Everything about Carden Park is spot on! Lovely comfortable bedrooms and the spa is so relaxing. All the staff very helpful. Location perfect. Breakfast seemed a little hectic and could do with being more organised
The setting is magnificentand the hotel is very comfortable. Nothing really stands our. A couple of lights in the room were not working, but no big deal!!! We attended a charity ball on the Friday night. Food was delicious but service a bit slow we felt.
Clean and spacious Nothing
unfortunately, I injured myself on the bed in our room 421 there were 2 small pins sticking out of the headboard which were very sharp and as I reached for the lamp switch it cut the back of my hand, I reported it to the front desk whilst checking out.
golf course in good condition cheap rates , friendly staff, good clean rooms food well below expectation, bar prices a rip off
