Nothing. It was close to where I wanted to be which is why I booked it. I checked in to the hotel and then left because it was smelly and the place and staff were creepy and scared me and my son. There was no one at the desk when I arrived except a cockatoo. I called around for 5 minutes or so before anyone showed up.
Cottage was moldy smelling. The bed sheets appeared as if They had been slept on. The bed spread was dirty and had something stuck to it.
It was conveniently located. The door to the cabin and the bathroom windows were missing curtains, no privacy. The bed spread and carpet has seen better days. They looked dirty. The bath shower curtain was too small and it was only for decoration, water went out. No bathroom rugs.
The lines went quick and water rides rocked! The beds are too soft.
When we checked in we were given a choice, wait for a room a few hours or accept one on a lower floor. As my 4 year old couldn't wait to get started we took the room. The room had a putrid smell, I thought like old gym socks, we later learned actually sewer / cesspool smell. Room was a little sticky as well. After coming back to room from water park, rm still smelled, toilet started to act up. At 10;30 PM we finally complained, took over an hour and 2 calls to get maintenance in. He fixed it , but broke again after 2 uses. Lunchtime we came back to rm to find the toilet in the bath tub and workers in & out of room. Although all staff apologized and were nice, they gave us late checkout & a coupon for Starbucs, they did not make us feel better or give us a satisfactory resolution. I am sure this does not happen to all, but it did to us and our experience to Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos was not a good one.
The resort was clean and offered many enjoyable activities. The location is beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. There are lots of quiet places inside and out where one can sit for a few moments to recharge. The surrounding area includes a lot of shopping options, including a Walmart for any forgotten items. The room left a lot to be desired. The AC system was so loud you couldn't hear the TV when running and it jolts you awake. The bed was positioned under a slanted ceiling and I bumped my head getting up. Water pressure was so low that it was barely able to keep the shower on. We arrived at 4:30 and didn't get a room until 6:00. The breakfast buffet was a little pricey at $18 per person, but there is a Perkins nearby. There was no coffee maker in the room, although the complimentary coffee in the lobby was ready by 5:00 a.m. Worst of all, I had to drive a mile for ice cream :)
The staff members were very accommodating. Felt very comfortable just staying with myself and toddler. Other reviews commented on the decor but I didn't find it distasteful at all, nor will it defer me from staying again. The only thing bad I can say about our stay was the slamming doors throughout the night. I'm a light sleeper so I was up all night. My daughter slept right through it though.
Beautiful location in the Poconos Historic, rustic feel Green initiatives Comfortable bed Golf course Room wasn't well cleaned(Laurel Lodge) Service in the bar wasn't attentive Front desk at spa had no interest in giving us a tour or explaining services Need larger/better staffed counter selling personal items (didn't have a toothbrush) Wedding was going on during our stay and we were very clearly not a priority of the hotel
I wish we could have stayed longer. Next time we stay it will be an extended stay. Great place for the price..
Breakfast buffet for $13.99. 2 rounds make it worth the money. Freshly made mix n match omelettes were fantastic! The king sized bed was comfortable. Front desk staff were accommodating. Parking was easy. Amenities were available. Didn't expect the place to have such an "old" vibe. Cant blame them since the place was founded in the 1900s or something. Seemed a bit too rustic for my taste. Hot water took minutes to come out the faucet. Shower water pressure was too low. Update the rooms. Everything just seemed so outdated, except for the flat screen TV in the room. Renovate the place. It looks very old and outdated.
100 year old hotel that has been very carefully preserved in the old fashion furnishings, yet everything was clean and well appointed. Stayed for a Friday night, wanted something different than the usual cinder block hotel overnight stay - this is the place. The staff was extremely friendly and eager to assist, even the night facilities manager was kind enough to open the indoor pool and walk us down the into the pool and recreation area later at night just so we could see it. There were kids in the arcade and pool table area having fun and the hotel in-house movie theatre was showing a movie about 11pm. Lots going on! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds that I have ever slept in at a hotel, and the room despite being over 100 years old was up to date, clean and very pleasant. The morning was great with the beautiful mountain views. This is a hard property to maintain because of the age of the hotel and they have worked really hard to keep in up and it shows! We will definitely stay again, and the next time try the spa, it looked wonderful. There wasn't any thing that was negative, except that we were coming in after dark and the hotel signage on the roads and lighting to get to the property could be a little better for those not familiar with the country roads.
Tons to do and a beautiful setting. The lake could not be more beautiful and the activities will keep you busy from morning till night. The decor is dated and the food is horrible.
Beautiful setting. The king bed was 2 twin mattress pushed together with a 2 inch height difference, making rolling in bed difficult. The place is highly overpriced for the overall stay. Very disappointed and will never return.
Skytop Lodge is historic and filled with class. The grounds are beautiful, there are a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, the staff is courteous, and the overall operations of the establishment are smoothly run. The main lodge has a lot of history so don't expect a modern building with contemporary decor. That said, we found our standard room elegantly decorated, comfortable, very clean, and equipped with a spacious bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We visited during the week at a relatively less crowded time I presume, and we really enjoyed having fewer guests around. One front desk staff member seemed newer and not very knowledgeable with a few of our questions, but he tried to help and was courteous nonetheless. That's a minor point. Also, the front desk made a significant billing error upon my checkout...but quickly corrected it after I noticed and pointed it out. I didn't have a perfect experience with the staff, but they were friendly and willing to help which were overall positive points and outweighed the shortcomings for me.
Organized, clean, beautiful, many activities. All restaurants were not open during stay. Host at Windsor restaurant was a bit rude when setting us and toward me when I asked him a question.
Splendid! Game arcade should have been all free, like it was presented in the brochyre
My Husband, mother, infant daughter and I stayed in a 2-bedroom villa over the MLK weekend. We were thrilled to get so much space at such a reasonable price. It was the same price as some of the other area resorts with twice the space for my family. The location was wonderful. In close proximity to many ski areas, restaurants, outlets, etc. Our personal villa was very clean and spacious. It has a working electric fireplace and a backporch, which was nice. All kitchen utensils were included which allowed us to make meals and snacks when we wanted to. Also, there was a washer/ dryer in our unit! We had a great time at the pool and in the lodge area. There are lots of activities there for kids and adults alike. When we and after we checked in, we were then directed to the sales staff who tried to set us up with a timeshare presentation the next day. Despite their best efforts we continuously declined. It was awkward, but we stayed firm and got out of it. Like everyone else, I felt that the decor and bedding were a little outdated. It would have been nice at the very least to see updated comforters in the rooms. It definitely would not prevent me from coming back, it would just be a nice feature. Finally, there was a Jacuzzi in our unit which we wanted to use, but it had not been turned on or serviced for a while and when we turned it on, a bunch of brown and black speckles came out. It was disappointing but not the end of the world. Overall would highly recommend!
The setting of the resort and the location of apartments throughout the woodlands makes it ideal for a peaceful and relaxing break. The apartments do need a little upgrading - acceptable as they are - but could easily generate a wow factor with some attention to detail.
The bed was comfy and the room had bygone era charm. We loved the porch and grounds. Despite all of the things we didn't like, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I agree with the reviewers who think it needs updating. There were 2 weddings happening on the night we stayed, and the music from each throbbed throughout our room until, which made it difficult to relax. Our room was on the side of the inn where the long walkway to the function rooms was. People's normal talking voices could be heard. Luckily there was no rowdiness.
The kids loved the waterpark. We got a great rate using the kayak app. I have also seen groupons for this resort that have great deals (considering normal rate). I can't wait to visit again using one of the discounted options. Water was warm, air felt cold at first (but I'm always freezing) but I warmed up quickly. I also think it's worth mentioning how appreciative I am that the resort allows kids to use their own coast gaurd approved flotation devices. A lot of water parks have started banning them saying people are not attentive to their children because they think the devices are a substitute for supervising your children. Although I'm sure that's true. I'm willing to bet the parents in that category don't supervise their children either way. Isn't it better to at least know these kids have a safety net?!?! I have two small children one of whom is a very high energy 5 year old. These places are often crowded and it's easy to lose sight of your child for even just a moment. It was very comforting knowing my babies had supervision and a safety net just in case.. Please keep allowing parents to use them. We stayed to play for a few hours on the day of checkout and the shower area in the waterpark is an open area. I just wish they had private shower facility's in the waterpark. The amazing shampoo and conditioner the resort provided was awesome though ;)
