Fabulous welcome, superb food and a lovely atmosphere
Clean hotel, friendly staff and good food will use this hotel again when in the area.
Excellent Value. Very friendly. Lovely food. Great location. Nothing.
The peacefull surrounding. This is not a hotel itself, it's rather a cottage, and in my opinion it's not more than 2 stars. I've stayed in other french two star hotels which offer much better conditions. Bathroom was very small, with cheap plastic floor and poor amenities. The room carpet was very worn and ancient and was not very clean. Mattresses and bedding were low quality. This hotel (?!?) needs a quick refurbish.
We liked the friendly staff and the excellent location: It is an ancient building (dating from the 14th century). The countryside is brilliant, the pool is definetely a plus and the meals were very good (as long as you are not a vegetarian).
The swiming pool was very welcome as the weather hot
Friendly welcome, excellent food quality and quantity and very reasonably priced. Secure locked outhouse for leaving bicycles.
The area, the food in the resturant and the hospitality
Offhand and friendly stuff. Good local food at the restaurant. Old and excessively soft beds.
Excellent atmospheric dinning room full of objet d'art.
The restaurant was exceptional - one of the best. The setting is idyllic
The peaceful setting was delightful and the food was excellent. The shower facilities were not quite of the standard one expects in quality French hotels.
Friendly staff good facilities good food nice location well maintained One or two staff could do with customer training!
The food, the pool and the large family room Some of the staff were not particularly friendly or helpful
The setting, the garden, the lovely furniture and confortable bed. The overwelming smell of cooking all over the hotel, especially in the bedroom, all pervading day and night. Lack of fresh air and poor ventilation. The heater in the bathroom was not working.
The surrounding landscape and scenery. The abrupt attitude and unfriendliness of the staff. The power was disconnected in our room between 12 midnight and 3 am. No reason given and no apology.
Our room was beautifully clean and spacious, with everything we could ask for. Peacefully located overlooking the hotels beautiful garden. I have very difficult dietary needs, and the wonderful chef was so accommodating, thoughtful and resourceful....I Would like to say that the other staff were wonderful too. So friendly and cheerful. We will certainly return. There was nothing to dislike.....I Would have been nice to have a tea making facility in the room as it was spacious and comfortable to sit in for afternooon tea, but this was provided in the lounge and we were never charged for it.
The food is unbelievable, for a very very good price (but the remoteness of the area explains this as well). The hotel itself is nice but for a break or a holiday, I think it would be lacking some amenities for most business travellers (internet for instance).
The helpful staff, swimming pool, delicious breakfast and dinner.
Everything was perfect - a wonderful place and wonderful value for money
The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The hotel had a swimming pool and a nice garden (and donkeys!). We had the set menu in the evening and food was fantastic. We only stayed one night but I would definitely go back, if only for the food.
Welcome was excellent we were sorry not being able to stay longer. Definitely a place to come back too. (Next time we will ask for a larger room!) Too little light and sebsequent some difficulty closing the external shades from the windows.
Although the restaurant was closed on the night we stayed. The owner of this beautifully converted chateau made us a delightful meal as we had been travelling all day. Small intimate hotel run by a husband and wife team that made us very welcome. Well worth a visit.
The charming owners were extremely helpful and welcoming. The accommodation was most attractive and comfortable.
The nice staff, the garden and the pool. The animals. Noice traffic in room towards the road.
Situation and ambience
the hotel proprietor was very welcoming and charming, the room was nicely decorated, pretty and cosy.the evening meal was excellent and the pastry to die for! my only slight negative was the price of the wines which I thought were a bit on the high side
friendly owners, excellent food, beautiful rooms, very quiet a little bit out of town on the by pass
The manager tried very hard to overcome the shortcomings by whizzing around and being very pleasant and helpful The room was too small and claustrophobic - lovely old building had been gutted and filled with plastic box type rooms
Location very good. You get what you pay for.
The restaurant was excellent! Our room was in an adjacent building on the second floor with no lift.
Excellent location; interesting town, excellent dinner, pleasant staff Poor room, poor towels
Receptionist when we arrived was particularly welcoming and helpful. food was good - very old historic town was most interesting and well cared for photos of the hotel did not show that it sits right on the pavement of a busy high street and the noise that generates. also there is piped American/British style music all day in this High Street which is only turned off when the Town Hall people go home!! 2. The outside of the hotel is over 300 years old-------but the inside has been 100 % gutted - and the man made furniture moved in along with low ceilings - all very clean and tidy - fine for the business man, but as far as we were concerned all character had been lost.
Very good food, if a bit expensive
Traditional French style. Good food. No hairdryer in room.
The helpful staff and food The negative selections above reflect the urgent need for the forthcoming rebuild of the hotel-clearly long overdue. The rooms, and we saw several, were very poor. When rebuilt, if the quality of staff is a marker, the hotel will be very satisfactory and can then be recommended
The hotel was fine but the only thing I would criticise is that the hotel was cold. The weather was hardly spring like and we all found the rooms to be on the cold side.
This was an outstanding hotel. The staff in particular were very helpful indeed. I strongly recommend it.
The staff were lovely - very helpful in storing our bike safely overnight. Good to have wi-fi although we had to sit on the balcony to get a decent reception. We had the best meal of our 6 day trip across the Pyrenees. The food was fresh, local (trout from the farm a short distance up the road, and delicious. Very good value too. Breakfast was good with whole jugs of coffee or chocolate, although the bikers could have done with a bit more protein to set them up for the day. It was very good value for the 5 of us. The rooms are a bit tired and old fashioned. We had one bolster pillow across the double bed for 2 of us which was a challenge!
quiet place close to beautiful mountain-area ,st.Jean Pied de Port,Roncevalles.friendly staff, good food.
Very helpful friendly owner who though she said didn't speak English could! Very peaceful spot in lovely countryside. Limited menu but good food. Ideal for an overnight stop
both Mr and Mme who managed the hotel;the antique items, the paintings, the library
