Quiet hotel and reasonably good food. On Thursday 22 May on leaving my room to go to breakfast I found that the electricity was off on our floor. I worked my way along to the staircase in total darkness only to find that at the bottom of the staircase a fire shutter was down and I could not get out. No-one responded to my calling and after 15 minutes the lady receptionist arrived for work and opened the shutter door. Frightening !!
The place - in the centre of the city
Food in the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast was excellent and staff friendly and helpful The room was very basic - certainly not 4 star - not even a box of tissues in the bathroom. Lounge chairs downstairs were very uncomfortable - poor quality with little comfort
location was good, dinning for hotel guests was very nice.
Cosy hotel. We used the outdoor restaurant and experienced that we did not get what we ordered. However, it might be that language difficulties (the waitress a non english or german speaker) and consequently we did not communicate well. From an international view ithis language problem seems rather strange.
the location, the wireless internet, the food, the staff are wonderful! the price is a little too high for what you get
Nice quiet village with hotels own parking Put next to a room with a baby screaming all night
Was better when I stayed at the overflow hotel: Hotel de Postes Very noisy on Friday night: big disco in town centre. Bed was too small and too soft. Very uncomfortable, especially for a 4 Star Hotel!
It was a pretty place The attitude of the staff was not welcoming, in fact it bordered on rudeness. .
The Location, lovley building in a beautiful town. We were doing a tour of the Battle of the Bulge and this was the ideal base. Very few English speaking staff, however what did I expect in rural Belgium? The freindly staff tried to be very helpful but there was a general communication problem. I would not recommend this Hotel unless the guest could speak French or was learning the landguage in which case I would strongly recommend this Auberge experience.
Nice facility with plenty of room and activities for the children. Walking distance to downtown. Free on sight parking. Staff spoke very little English making it difficult to communicate. This is also true of most of the town. Unless you speak French, it may be difficult to get by. Additionally, if you plan on swimming, bring your Speedos. We were asked to leave the pool area for wearing swimming trunks. My children were disappointed, but not enough to wear tight swim wear.
The food was quite good. The location allowed for a quiet night but it was only a short walk into the town center for "noisier" activities. No air conditioning. We were originally booked in a room on the third floor facing the sun in the afternoon. The room was a furnace when we walked in and the air conditioner was hopeless. We asked for another room and moved. It too was uncomfortable but it was on the second floor and on the morning sun side. We were able to keep this room cool enough to bear it. Also, the rooms are quite small. I would not stay here again in the summer.
lack of air conditioning or ventilation without opening the balcony door which suffered from street noise.
Very spacious since we were only two in a possible six person apartment. Proximity to town center good. Price excellent Access to bath on bottom floor difficult at night. The multi-bedroom apartment is best for family holidays.
good location, clean room, thigs to do for the kids
Very clean, good stop off point
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a short 5-10 minute walk to the downtown square. The city was beautiful and it was very scenic. We asked for a double bed and ended up with two twin beds. We just decided to push them together to make one!
location,parking and views.
Great value for money. Lovely balcony view. Wifi was fast. Feels a bit like a holiday village. The 4 room apartment was a bit noisy from the road traffic and people playing football, even with the windows closed. Good muesli bowls were missing in the kitchenette, otherwise it was complete (bring your own salt, oil, kitchen cloth and dustbin bags though). There was no flat-screen TV as brochure said, but a normal TV. Location was 10 minutes from city center, so not entirely in woods.
Lovely apartment. Very friendly staff and the Taverne has great food and a wonderful selection of beers. Please be aware that if you are male and want to use the poole boxershorts are not allowed.
fairly quiet location in the countryside. peaceful picnic area with flowing river stream nearby, ample parking lot for auto, an old and creaky building with an ill fitting door that would not lock, the loo down the hallway, and vastly overpriced for value received.
Very pleasant stay. The accomandations and service are excellent as is the food.
Nice hotel with a good restaurant. The location was very scenic
We had a pleasant stay at Hotel l'Ermitage. The service was good and the food was excellent. I would recommend and would we stay there again.
The location is nice, just outside Houffalize (walking distance) with good parking. The owners are a nice and open couple who speak French and Dutch. The rooms, and facilities are adequate. The restaurant is excellent, we had a couple of great diners. I'm almost 2 meters (6 feet) tall and a bed is quickly to small. Although a 2 meter bed should suffice, having a board at the end limits my movement.
Simple, clean, unpretentious comfort. Friendly. Rather slow service at dinner
The Restaurant was excellent, great food at very reasonable price.
Cosy family atmosphere
They had family rooms with a separate bedroom for the kids. The location was quiet and pretty near a stream and forest. The staff was brusque and borderline rude. The restaurant was very pricey; clear vegetable soup was 8 euros. When my husband asked to borrow a corkscrew for our room he was answered rudely, the woman gave him the corkscrew but made a point of saying she had the right to charge us to uncork. The staff didn't seem happy or welcoming.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Ate at the restaurant both nights because of excellent food and ambience. Enjoyed the bar and really liked the staff.
We were very pleased with the hotel, the staff and the restaurant and the bar. The hotel is situated in beautiful surroundings and Hoffalize is a very nice town. An exellemt base for a visit in the Ardennes.
Swimming, kayaking no
we liked almost everything! large breakfast area, bit institutional
Big rooms, very quiet. No internet access in rooms.
The rooms were very nice, clean, and we enjoyed the balcony. Hotel services are not well explained. For instance, the meal reservation arrangements and options, if any, were not explained when we checked in... When we attended the resturant, the arrangements were made for us there by the dining staff. But then we discovered that those meal reservations then did not allow us any flexibility in case we might decide to eat out on the town. One evening, a couple in our party did not eat there because his wife could not eat veal. The hotel staff offered no other memu and said that we would be charged for those meals anyway. Is this the only way you provide/serve meals at the hotel?
the hotel advertises a good rabge of facilities & all year round entertainment, but when we arrived the pool was shut and only open till 5pm the following day. too early for us! no coffee or tea in rooms and none available to be brought due to staff shortage. The bar and restaurants were shut for the winter and the only room open was the breakfast room. The breakfast was incredibly poor and when asking to see the menu for the evening we were told the only choice was Lasagne!! saw three staff members for the time we were thereand they were very unhappy people, Had to drive twenty frive mile round trip to Bastogne twice to eat in the evening when we were very tired, Not recommended.
dinner was great and the facility was AAA quality the way the red headed lady treated me on arrival and later times whem questions were asked her. terrible personal attitude
Very nice place to stay, but they need to place a few more road signs to direct you to the hotel not a thing
Assumed all meals were being taken at hotel and charged accordingly. had trouble sorting it out. Also had trouble trying to settle the bill the night before an early morning departure. However they did let us in the end. Tip if you are booking more than one room use seperate bookings, I had to pay for both rooms they would not split bill.
Great price! Excellent breakfast! Receptionist spoke english making check in and out easy. Some language barriers still remained in other facilities of the hotel. 08-10 check out time too early. 1600 check in too late.
Our room was at the very top of the hotel. We had to carry our luggage up a narrow staircase. No elevator. The emergency door was marked to remain open, but it was locked at all times except when we brought in our luggage.
Excellent location , beautiful view, clean rooms, nice food and service
The position of the hotel with fantastic view, the breakfasts and helpful staff
Excellent breakfast in a lovely dining room with a good view overlooking town. Friendly service. Evening meal menu not very extensive and quite pricey. I'm sure the food was excellent, and the setting was superb, however, I do feel there should have been the possibility of eating in the hotel without spendong a fortune!
The view and the nice breakfast Douche was without a curtain
The proprietor welcomed us very warmly and gave us a choice of rooms. We chose a room with a spectacular view over the river and castle. Dinner was superb (especially the smoked wild boar) and breakfast one of the best continental breakfasts I've had.
Personal service steep stairs
The food the owner is an excellent chef and the dinner menu was interesting and the food delicious. A very pleasant surprise. The hotel is a certain sort of antique style. It would not appeal to those who like something modern. There were blankets on the bed and we prefer a duvet.
Personal care from the owner made this a do again. Rooms rather basic but breakfast were memorable. Views of castle and town were excellent.
The host and his wife are very friendly and speak many languages. They're also excellent cooks (we had two great dinners)! The hotel has a nice lounge with a view over the river and La Roche. Breakfast is more than complete with crispy fresh breads, juice, boiled eggs etc. We can absolutely recommend this hotel. We didn't mind, but the wall between our room and the next apparently is rather thin, and therefore not very soundproof. Other sections of the hotel may be better, we don't know.
Very cozy hotel with a great view of La Roche town and castle. Very friendly staff and nice breakfast included with the room. Free parking across the street. There is wi-fi internet available, but only in the restaurant and bar areas (not in the rooms).
hospitality of staff, excellent view and location, value for money
Good situation on the edge of La Roche. From our room at the back we saw only trees which was no problem for us but the front rooms have a great view over the town. A short walk into town allowed us to leave car on their car park.
Owners very friendly - speak good English Good breakfast Lots of character Decoration and carpets need updating
The location was great, the staff and service was great an all round fantastic place to stay
Thw hotel was in a lovely location with lovely views form the hotel. The whole hotel was clean, bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice.Hotel even served breakfast early so that we and other guests could ride cycle event on Saturday. Not a bad point point but could do with sign on road to show where hotel is.
a simple and quiet hotel located in the middle of the Ardennes, run by a friendly relaxed but efficient Flemish couple; a reasonably large room with an up-to-date bathroom. needed help from friendly villager to find hotel in the dark; meal was basic
Very clean. Food is delicious, breakfast is more than enough and staff is very friendly.
the hotel was close to the town and close to all the amenities. The breakfast was good. The shower was lovely and hot. Motorcycle friendly. BBC TV Towels could have been changed daily. Tea facilities in the room would have been nice.
Excellent restaurant offering good food at a competitive rate.
good enough, basic facilities but clean, if somewhat dated decor So called double room consisted of 2 single beds pushed together ... staff are non English speaking.
The dinner was probably one of the best meals that I have ever had - it was amazing value too and was served with effeciency and charm. The room was OK and very clean. The breakfeast, included in the cost was basic and the room only had a small bathroom area.
The fact that it was close to everything to be seen in La Roche. It wasn't as clean as claimed on the site. I was confronted with a few spiders in the bathroom. The breakfast was not a "buffet" at all as claimed on the site. It was very simple.
Excellent food - 6 course dinners included in half-board rate exceptionally good value (though nb. Breakfasts below average). Very convenient location right in the town centre. Quite noisy (rooms face directly onto a street which is a main road in and out of the town). Room unattractive - dark, outdated 1960s/70s. Ensuite serviceable but shabby, with lavatory so small it could not be used with the door closed. Stairs steep, narrow, dark and rather shabby. No hotel car park - relies on on-street parking (rarely available) or public off-street 100m away.
Excellent food,comfortable rooms.
we where close to the town no tea or coffee facilities, or a bar, but on the whole not bad for the price
Clean comfortable hotel with a good kitchen, well located for the town's facilities No tea or coffee facilities in the room
The breakfast was very good. The room was very good, shower room excellent. Comfortable lounge. Magnificent scenery and very quiet location. Easy to find - directions (sign-posts) from town centre. Good eating places locally. Pleasant not to have television in room, made for more peaceful stay. Gay friendly (well-named "Gai-Sejour"!). Corridor/landing outside room was quite dark, making locating key-hole in door difficult.
Very friendly owners. Good breakfast. Clean.
Great location right in the Ardennen hills, not too far from the village centre. authentic, rustical atmosphere, well renovated (excellent bathroom/shower). Friendly couple runs the place in a hospitable and down-to-earth manner. There was a bit of a 'stamgasten' feeling among the mostly elderly guests but we were completely free to make our own arrangements. Very quiet and restful at night. Nice breakfast which we could take out on the terrace.
Staying at this hotel was just as comfortable as being at home. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the hotel to any and all travelers.
Superb service, lovely people, wonderful location.
The owners could not have been kinder or more helpful. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. The breakfasts were really excellent - ideal preparation for a day walking in the hills. It is rather basic - more of a backpacker's auberge than a hotel. Facilities were limited.
The absolute peace and quiteness very friendly owners where nothing was too much trouble for them
it is located in the centre of the city the room was very unclean, there was moulth in the bathroom
very close to town centre lots of goog eating places nice and quiet nice plentiful breakfast helpfull staff would stay again we were pleased with the hotel in all aspects
the breakfast poor parking, no coffee facilities in room.
Being downtown La Roche. Good breakfast. Closed when we arrived at 4:30p Chef across the street came and called the receptionist. She was attending a family gathering (fine, but should have had someone covering the desk as we were not the only ones trying to check in). Street was torn up and was a bit difficult to find hotel. Parking only available on street.
WC without ventilation
Great location, friendly helpful staff, adequate breakfast Advertising free wifi, when it wasn't, access cards had to be purchased.Street car parking and a large public car park are nearby and easy to use but this is not the same as parking provided by the hotel. The website descriptions should be updated.
Friendly staff. Very clean linen and good breakfast.
Good location in the centre of La Roche Appalling parking availability, parking is simply on street public parking, when stated "parking is available on site", the hotel does not have a site nor provide any parking, this should be made clearer. The hotel beds are tiny and really only suitable for children, Breakfast was appalling even for Continental standards!
Location was good. Room was basic but comfortable. Owners helpful. Opted for 1/2 board and had dinner. Dinner was excellant. I thought breakfast was a little skimpy.
A very pleasant hotel situated in a quiet location next to the river but also very close to the town centre. Our stay was most enjoyable.
Small hotel with basic rooms. Nice staff, excellent restaurant, beautiful valley/riverside setting
The restaurant was superb
Very friendly and hospitable owners. Hotel is well situated in the neighbourhood of the village-centre Restaurant Koulic is excellent and we enjoyed dining there. Definitely an Hotel we like to visit again (and hopefully very soon).
Homely feel - Very freindly and accomodating owners
very nice stay no
Very good loacation for the town.We enjoyed a lovely evening meal freshly cooked for us in the very stylish restaurant.A very restful stay
My Boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Beau Rivage last weekend for a 2 night escape. The owner was very attentive and offered us more breakfast when asked and was very polite. The room was small, but clean, however the TV did not work ( although we didnt plan to watch in anyway) and the bed was sofa and very creeky on a slight movement. However suited us fine.
The food was excellent at the hotel and the service from the owner Mr. Koulic was brilliant.
