When you stay at Hotel Mystica in Angeles, you'll be on a lake, a 1-minute drive from Lake Arenal and 5 minutes from Tenorio Volcano National Park. Featured amenities include a computer station, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Property, staff, food
Cons: I've slept on pool tables that were more comfortable than the bed in our cabin.
Pros: The place is very peaceful!
Pros: Mystica is as much an experience as it is a hotel stay. You feel as if you've slipped into your own private aura. This is a lovely place, peaceful, beautiful, cared for by incredibly thoughtful and positive hosts. We arrived here, slightly sunburned after 6 days at the beach. This was the perfect closer. The cool mountain air soothed our skin, the quiet atmosphere circled with hammocks and loungers rested our bones. It was everything we needed, before our flight out. It's worth a note as well, the food is wonderful across the board. Highly recommended. Thank you for having us.
Cons: Not a thing.
Pros: Beautiful view of the lake from this hilltop property. The grounds include a river, a yoga area with classes offered 4 x a week, a dipping pool and a labyrinth if so inclined. The furnishings and decor in the reception, restaurant and rooms is colorful and high quality. The beds have a cozy comforter for the cooler evenings. There is a short hike from the hotel to a very old and magnificent Ceiba tree, that offers wonderful views and wildlife. We saw howler monkeys and lots of birds. I highly recommend Mystica.
Cons: The beds were a bit hard, but to others they may be just right.
Pros: The restaurant was amazing. The food was all so fresh. The fireplace was a nice relaxing place to sit and have a great drink and relax. The hammock outside the room provided an amazing place to rest with a view.
Pros: The tranquillity. Built on nice grounds that are well maintained. Very peaceful and lots of good energy around with views that are breathtaking. Excellent for a retreat. We had a jungle room, which I highly recommend. Staff was very nice. Dora remembered that we wanted toasted bread and had our basket ready every morning. Barbara (the owner) responded very fast to my queries, also before I got there I had questions abt yours etc. She is very friendly.
Cons: The remoteness. If you plan to stay at the property only it is an excellent choice! If you want to go to Arenal or La Fortuna, a round trip taxi can cost you approx. $100- $130 respectively. The distance is just 45-75 min to each. Consider a rental car if you plan to go for sightseeing or visit restaurants nearby near Arenal lake and want to have more flexibility.
Pros: The food is nice, middle of nowhere relaxing/ disconnecting from the world kind of place
Pros: Nestled in nature
Pros: Everything Room super clean, nice bathroom Good bed and beautiful garden Nice place to rest
Cons: The pool a bit cold to have a swim Breakfast could have more choice And prices a bit high for dinner
Pros: Beautiful location. Very nice staff. Beautiful rooms. Good food. Lovely atmosphere. Peaceful.
Cons: Wish there were maybe more vegan options on menu!
Cons: Some of the infrastructure such as light fixtures and the yoga platform needed some overhaul work. The pillows were a little harder than I would have liked and no AC.

Pros: They have great breakfast options, from the typical Costa Rican breakfast, to more American/European options. Very quiet place with wonderful breezes, trees and flowers.
Pros: Very clean and well-kept property. Beautiful views of the Arenal lake. Friendly staff. Very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely stay here again.
Pros: We used this as a stop between La Fortuna and MonteVerde. This ended up being a perfect in between BUT the pictures of the lovely pool is not really where you are staying or using. The cabins are in the backside of the property and do not have a view. The room is spacious and if your visiting for a week it would be great. They have kitchenettes stocked with everything you need (except food). Our host was great, Kees. He really does want to make sure you enjoy your stay.
Cons: My sister and I both agreed these were the hardest, most uncomfortable beds we have ever slept in; and the pillows sucked too. I honestly didn't think I would ever fall asleep.
Pros: Owner is extremely outgoing and concerned that you have a great stay. His breakfasts exceeded our expectations.
Cons: Although view was excellent, the driveway is very steep and parking very tight.
Pros: The Staff The Room The View The Facility The breakfast The pool The calm and peaceful environment If feels local and not commercial or touristic The restaurants are further but their prices are fair and the food incredible
Cons: Nothing !
Pros: The view is amazing and the location unbelievably beautiful. It is as stunning as in the photos and perhaps even more so. The owner runs his cabins with pride and works to make a good visit for everyone. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed exploring the area. If you like a cabin a bit remote then this is great. If you want a super lux experience then stay someplace else. Plan to arrive in the daytime! Rough roads and it is hard to find your way in the dark. Google offline maps are the only way to get there.
Cons: A few minor issues: 1) more lighting needed in kitchen 2) shower needs a shower curtain 3) shower head makes a wide and defuse spray On our first day the owner's young dog was too excitable and was nipping at us and biting our bags. This is after we had checked in so I would have expected a dog to realize the owner has indicated we were OK. It was getting a bit scary and we yelled to get the owner to pull away the dog. Finally, I had to put my car alarm on to distract the dog and the owner came out. After that the dog was on a leash and not a problem but it was an unpleasant experience and I would not have expected a dog to behave like this in an inn where people will be coming and going all the time.
Pros: The owner was incredibly gracious and very helpful. He answered a lot of our questions about the area. Each morning he personally delivered a wonderful breakfast to our room. He also made it easy to get our laundry cleaned. The location has a tremendous view of Arenal Lake, and has a very nice pool. The room was spacious, with a great breakfast eating area, a fully equipped kitchen and an outdoor patio.
Cons: Nothing to say that we did not like about this location. We would return if we revisit that area again.
Pros: Getting away from tourists and cooling off. The temperature is definately 10 degrees cooler and lots of wind
Cons: Its off the usual tourist path a bit but you experience true costa rican culture. Prices on everything is better than in tourist areas so stock up on beer and other necessities before heading to the beach resorts. La fortuna is a nice drive but road repairs are ongoing so plan your drive allowing an extra hour. It wouldn't be advisable to drive on the dark. Kees the host and his wife are very hospitable. And the dogs are very friendly. Breakfast was great!
Pros: Very nice owner Good breakfast Nice view Large Pool
Cons: Many insects in the bathroom and also in the bed. Rooms are outdated and not really clean.

Pros: Coffee in the morning; veranda with rocking chairs; friendly staff; convenient location
Cons: Room was smaller than expected; no chairs in room
Pros: It was fine to follow a real life from balcony with breakfast or night drink. Great to have free coffee, sweet cakes and other cookies 24 hours. Kind staff.
Cons: A little space in room for three persons.
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff who tried it's best despite my bad Spanish. Nice cool rooms
Cons: Tilaràn is not worth stopping for, which has nothing to do with this hotel though. The hotel doesn't offer enough value for money and it's showers are not really hot.
Pros: Friendly staff, free coffee and a great location
Cons: No air conditioning and no breakfast
Pros: A few steps from the bus station yet without the noise. There was enough choices of places to eat. WiFi in room pretty fast, plenty of hot water, and staff very helpful. Tilaran town is pretty clean, and felt quite safe. Also appreciated the windiness of the area that brought relief from the heat and humidity.
Pros: Comfortable, spacious room, hot shower. Great communal balcony at front overlooking the shops & countryside. Free coffee & biscuits.
Pros: compact, cozy, running water, beds just allright, night staff juggled vehicles from secure parking area so I could get out at 5am
Cons: check in process through Booking. com took half an hour after long hot dusty drive.
Pros: Stayed one night only. It was 22$ for a private room , private bathroom , cable TV and free Internet. Located 20miters from the bus terminal but very quite !!! Not noisy . There is a small kitchen you can make some food or hot drinks. All the rooms have wall to wall carpet !!!
Pros: Central position, very clean, free coffee
Cons: doesn't have a kitchen
With a stay at Hotel Cielo Azul Resort in Tilaran, you'll be 3.3 mi (5.2 km) from Lake Arenal and 10.2 mi (16.5 km) from Tenorio Volcano National Park. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. For a surcharge, guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle (available 24 hours) and a cruise ship terminal shuttle.
Pros: The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful! I forgot my phone charger at the hotel that we stayed in the night before in Cañas and the owner called the hotel for me and then arranged for his family that was passing by Cañas to pick it up for me since Cañas was a 30 minute drive away. I thought that was extremely kind of them to do that!
Cons: There wasn’t anything negative to say about this place! The only thing that I might suggest is that the breakfast be included in the price, although it is inexpensive and a good breakfast if they want to compete with everyone else they should include it in the room rate.
Pros: Just outside of Tilaran. Secure. Our rooms were comfy and clean. A nice glider bench outside each room. The pool was clean and breakfast was great.
Cons: On second level, but a very useful ramp, as well as the stairs. Slightly dated, but we need clean and comfy.
Pros: Very friendly and great breakfast for the price you pay. Defiantly would go back.
Pros: The staff was very nice, helpful and friendly Nice breakfast
Cons: Noise isolation is poor, we had a strong noise of the winds all the night.
Pros: Bed comfortable. No English speakers, so it was awkward. Not resort. Get what you payfor
Cons: Run down feel.
When you stay at Lake Arenal Hotel & Brewery in Angeles, you'll be in the mountains, within a 15-minute drive of Lake Arenal and Tenorio Volcano National Park. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: great food and friendly staff
Pros: The place is beautiful, strategically placed, the food is really good.
Cons: The staff is not so great, it seems like they are angry, and lack a bit of customer service, nonetheless, the small lady and Daniela were terrific hosts! Kudos to those 2!
Pros: Loved this hidden cool gem. Great pool overlooking the lake with craft beer. Staff was very friendly with great service. Also had tennis court & mini skate park on the property.
Pros: Great hotel with lots of character. The lobby has good beer, comfy couches and lots of games. The area surrounding the hotel has lots of stuff to explore. Staff was great.
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff, room spacious and clean with warm water. Clean pool in the garden, free parking. Good breakfast and great beer of many kinds. Interesting retro design hotel, reminiscent of colonial era, at night tinged with the sound of monkeys on the trees around the hotel. Beautiful view of the lake.
Pros: Very nice stuff and very family friendly place.
Cons: Low water pressure and less warm water to shower.
Pros: This place is special and really fun! The team who work there are all great at making sure you feel welcome and relaxed. The on-site brewery makes for an added bonus and all rooms are large and great value for money. I highly recommend Lake Arenal Hotel and Brewery!
Cons: I didn't dislike anything but visitors just need to be aware it's pretty remote. That adds to the charm and amazing views but ideally you need a car when visiting. The hotel is on a bus route to La Fortuna (bus stop is at the end of the driveway) but the bus timetables don't really exist so you have to take your chances - there are two buses a day, one around 7am and another around 12.30 but it could come anytime between 12 - 1.30! Once on the bus it's cheap and less than 2 hours to La Fortuna but just rent a car if you can and you'll get more out of the trip.
Pros: The view is so amazing! The staff was very willing to please and the food was great! If you love craft beer, this place has an amazing variety.
Cons: A little bit rustic for everyone. It could use some updating. Also the steps are challenging for a person who has any difficulties.
Pros: Great beer nice view
Cons: No coffee the first day which was weird and no explanation. The next night some huge party like thing which had a Dj definitely geared towards younger crowd, it was loud and obnoxious. Also no Tv in room is strange and rooms dated . Shower needs work. Staff courteous and friendly.
Pros: The staff was fantastic! They were friendly and helpful and fun to be around. The food was absolutely delicious. Josef is a great chef!! Can't wait to return.
