Staff very nice, good value. No provision for early check in. Had to sit in cold car till noon when the Inn opened for lunch. Online reservation indicated that we had paid up front. The hotel explained that we had not and this was perennial misunderstanding with customers.
nice bar with log fire bathroom was absolutely freezing and no complimetary shampoo. room was also cold on arrival - had to turn the heating on when I arrived - would normally expect this to have been done prior to my arrival
Very nice relaxing lounge area with big comfortable chairs where you could while away a couple of hours reading The room had a queen size bed not a double. The overall cleanliness was suspect, we accidentally dropped a napkin on the floor in the dining room at the evening meal and it was still there at breakfast. There were a number of flies around the dining room and bedroom.
On one of the coldest weekends of the winter we were provided with extra bedding and a heater for our room so we were very comfortable, breakfast was enough to nearly last us all day! The restaurant meals were also very good. Booking in was rather difficult we arranged to book in between 4.30.and 5.00 (the hotel is closed between 2.30 and 6.00) we arrived at 4.30 to find the hotel locked and no way of making ourselves heard, we had to leave a message on the hotel phone and we eventually got in about 4.45. We were shown to our room ( room 7) only to find that the extractor pipe for kitchen was directly outside the window and was extremly noisy. We contacted the manager who moved us to another room so the problem was resolved for us but if the hotel had been fully booked this may have been a bigger problem.
Friendly owner, food was excellent with a wonderful breakfast. The room was comfortable and the location was ideal for the areas attractions. NA
A very pleasant hotel with friendly owner and staff. A very relaxing break.
Attention of the owner and staff. Food and rooms very good, priced well. Breakfast chef wandering around restaurant, untidily dressed. Log fire not lit on second night.
Friendly & welcoming staff, good food, excellent value for money Perhaps the shower could have been better but that is being really picky!
The food was excellent and the rooms were nicely refurbished.
I would recommend this hotel to everybody , excellent value for money.
Friendly and very obliging proprietors - nothing was too much trouble More privacy to make a land-line call as no mobile signal. Land line was in bar. No great problem, just a comment
The Crown inn is a real Gem. The rooms are spotless and the owners are very helpful and genuine people who want the paying guest to really enjoy being there. The food was very good , and the Breakfasts were very filling and tasty....A great base for walkers and cyclists ...right in the middle of the countryside ...no traffic ...no noise....I thought I had gone deaf........give it a go.......the Real Ale Fans amongst you will also be in for a pleasant suprise, as the two cask ales on were in tip top condition. We would not hesitate in going back to the Crown. Pity it does not open in the afternoons .....
Our room was lovely, very spacious, the staff were welcoming. It was just a stop off for us on our way to a wedding and it worked perfect. We would stay there agin.
The owners were very friendly without being intrusive. The food served in the inn was good quality and very good value. Comfortable rooms.
Loved the room nber 4. Step down into bathroom even at 5ft 2 I bumped my head.
I felt comfortable and welcomed. The breakfast was amazing...white linens and the food was prepared expertly and served by nice people. Dinners were excellent and well priced. The room was basic, but clean. I think the staff was wonderful. Overall I liked it very much, just as I imagined a pub/hotel in Wales might be. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.
Was in a nice location and the staff catered for our needs perfectly, will be staying again.
Good central location, good breakfast Access via the back stairs was a bit offputting but I believe a better entry is being worked on
Room was lovely, newly decorated fresh and clean. Room No 1 was at the front of the guest house, as it was a Victorian house the windows were original, unfortunately across the road from the hotel was a club that stayed open until 3 am. The very large crowd who mainly were outside the club may well of been in the room with us, the noise was terrible especially on a Sunday night! I don't think this room should be used for guests.
Clean nice room great breakfast Didnt take plastic not happy I wouldnt pay cash also web site didnt say this or it was a b & b as I tend to avoid them also not vat reg
Friendly and helpful staff
We were very impressed by the owners and the facilities A bit noisy on a Friday night
Excellent decor, very clean, nothing too much trouble for mine host, breakfast to die for. Cannot think of any
Fantastic room, private car park, excellent breakfast, excellent service...would definitely use again. Some little points of view though... the wireless internet did not work as did not the freeview tv, which was very patchy - maybe a signal issue, and finally getting there without satnav was a little difficult...on the whole 9 out of 10! I would always use it again
Lovelly old building, nice walking distance from the Town and the river
We stayed in the Swansea Suite which was huge with a 4 Poster Bed and fantastic views.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The public areas within the hotel were well presented and most comfortable. The surrounding gardens were magnificent to look at and enjoyable to walk through. We booked a "feature four poster room" based on the favourable rate and hotel reviews. But whilst on route we were informed that there had been a mistake, and that the promised room had already been let ! We were offered a basic double room as an alternative at the full rate which I was not entirely happy about - but agreed to. Unfortunately we had to request they move us to another room shortly after arrival, due to a terrible sewerage type stench within the bathroom. Then to our disgust we found the water flowing from the bath taps was brown in colour in the alternative room provided ! We knew the hotel was fully booked and did not want to cause anymore inconvenience, so we "just put up with it" and avoided the bathroom. ok otherwise !
Staff very helpfull Some of decoration in room was a bit shabby
went to Brecon Beacons on steam train - excellent First room had a Leaking ceiling but the staff moved us immediately and it was the week end of all those flash floods !! Food was fantastic and loads of it. Four poster bed and fantastic views. a lovely old manor with lots of character
Friendliness of the staff and customers
hotel clean, staff friendly, loved the grounds and riverside food on first night of eating was disappointing but we persevered and it got better - (different chef?)
Staff were friendly and courteous. Food was decribed as 'Fine Dining' but was just satisfactory. The double bed in Bedroom number one was way passed it sells by date - time for the dump! Also the alcove the bed was in was far too small you could only walk in sideways. A very bad night's sleep was had.
Setting and location were excellent. The staff were exceptionally helpfull and attentive at all times None
Location of hotel was great - not easy to find though, but staff were most helpful when I phoned. Rooms were comfortable and a good size. Public facilities were good and had style. Grounds were excellent as was the patio and service- the weather was excellent too! Could do with more vegetables as an integral part of main meals. I ordered a side dish but it was disappointing though the rest of the food was fine.
Nice, friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast, nice bar area, rooms clean but could do with a freshen up. Carpets in the bathroom!
The position of Hotel was very good and the food was good The Hotel was very tired and needed decoration and refurbishment to improve its standing all round
It was very good value for the money charged. The breakfast was very good for the price. The rooms were a little 'weary' bathroom flooring showing wear and the wallpaper in room and a few of the fixtures no longer worked. - heated towel rail.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice spacious room.
good service from the members of staff i met
I stayed at the hotel for the first time though I visit llandrindod Wells for the first time. Value for money was superb. I will stay again. Nothing
The staff were friendly and the room and facilities were clean. Though the weather can't be helped, the window pane in my room rattled with the wind outside leading to a sleepless night. The room was very cold and required a standalone electric heater to keep it warm.
Freindly staff It looks a bit worn, past its best
Value for money but it does need a make over but it reflects that in the prices, if it was all decorated the tarrif would go up. On arrival it was raining and the first thing that we saw and had to avoid was dripping water over the entrance. I think it had been dripping for some time as there was a large water mark on the coconut mat at the door. I thought it was going to be a Faulty Towers hotel, but no it was good value for money, but I strongly suggest you get the drip sorted as it is not a very good first impression.
Friendly staff and good service I woudn't say I didn't like it but the hotel room was overdue for decorating, having said that it was spotlessly clean.
The facilities for the spa were easy to access. Meals were well presented and excelent quality.
The refurbished Health Suite was excellent and the Bathroom also The room was exceedingly hot and it was not a warm day.
Hotel staff very helpfull service very good room very nice and clean,Food was very good.
Staff were excellent The shower was pathetic!
The whole hotel was excellent value for money and we hope to visit again in the future.
location, meals. staff attitude
The double room was larger than a lot we have stayed in and was very comfortable, and breakfast was extensive cooked and buffet "continental" available.
Bar/Lounge & Brassiere Facilties, Quality & Comfort of furnishings & Rooms. External Decor
Ideal location for our meeting at Cleg Powys college (next door)
Friendly, comfortable and excellent food
Excellent food and real ale Very poor public transport
welcoming staff; generous food portions; quiet location; off-street parking damaged shower nozzle holder
The cleanliness of the hotel rooms were fantastic. The beds were very comfortable and the bedlinen was superb. The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and attentive to all requests. Overall I would recommend it for anyone who wants an overnight stay. There was only one bad point and that was some dog excrement in the hall from the rooms to the dinning room, which unfortunately I trod in. However the staff made sure my shoes were cleaned. It was an unfortunate incident for which I believe a one off, and the staff were very appologetic.
Fulfilled my requirements for an overnight stay that was comfortable and adequte. The member of staff I saw ( The cook) was friendly and helpful and cooked and served a good breakfast.
This is the second time we have stayed at this Inn. The food is very wholesome and tasty and the portions are enormous! This is a very friendly country pub with clean, comfortable accomodation, and is great value for money. We were attending a cycling event and the staff got up early to prepare us an excellent breakfast.
Comfortable room, friendly staff, excellent breakfast Would have liked to have been able to check in before 6pm
the Staff were fantastic, the prices were good, would recommend n/a
The friendliness of the owners, staff and local customers. The food was excellent at both breakfast and evening meals. Bacon was the real thing! The shower in the room was a little 'hit and miss'. The temperature control was not working so had to 'dance' around the shower.
Very friendly, country pub style. Excellent food, good beer External steep stairs to bedrooms
the rooms were really clean and nice. The staff very helpful. The food plentiful
Genuine medieval building. Very attractive room original structure ultra modern bathroom- very good features. Good breakfast. Fair value for money.
Room and facilities were very good. Food also.
Great room, large modern bathroom, spotless. Loved the little snug bar with log fire and friendly locals. Friendly staff, excellent food in restaurant, good value. Remember this is an Inn not a Hotel
Room vas very spacious and decorated and furnished beautifully. Everything very clean and in excellent working order. Staff not very friendly
Comfortable bed. Quiet after pub had closed. Shaving a problem; mirror was on wall opposite wash basin. Pub is popular with locals and the courtyard outside room was noisy until midnight.
A friendly hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. Nice swimming pool.Excellent breakfasts. Our room - in the pool house was very small
The room was cozy (actually smelled good!), location was perfect for exploring Hay-on-Wye, and breakfast was superb.
Position. Friendliness and helpfulness of owners.
The staff did everything they could to help us enjoy our stay ,and the breakfast was very good indeed .We were meeting friends .who were more impressed with their room So I would reccommend the seven stars but not our particular room . Our room was clean and comfortable .But it was attached to the pool area in what seemed to be an insulated shed. The internal decor was drab and unpleasant .In addition the bathroom had no ventilation or an extractor fan .But on the plus side I could just flop into the pool through a sliding door .So on balance ok
It was close to the bookshops (which was the point of the visit to Hay on Wye).
Excellent breakfast, nice pool, good for walking into Hay, free car-park, comfortable bed, nice towels. No bedside tables/lights, poor room lighting, no pool towels (had to use bath towels), a little basic.
the swimming facility
Excellent breakfasts, very friendly staff.
The very nice and substancial breakfast. The use of the pool and sauna.Friendly Service. No N/A
the location was good, very close to everything in Hay. The breakfast was good. They let me stay in the car park even after I had booked out at 10.30am Trying to park the car was difficult, the alley to the car park was so narrow. There was no one there when I arrived to check in at 12.30pm. My room wasn't ready. The TV in my room didn't work at all. There was no one at reception again when I came back at 9pm, no one until 8am the next morning so I couldn't report the TV not working. Noise from the traffic on the main road through town vibrated the room. The bed was very saggy and lumpy. There was carpet in the bathroom and round the toilet which isn't good for smells.
Hotel was ideal for our requirements (large group). Evening meals were excelent. Hotel was value for money. Staff were friendly. Rooms are very tired but were cleaned daily. Remember, you get what you pay for.
Courteous personable staff who were really obliging. The hotel was in the process of being refurbished and is not perhaps as luxurious as others but there was everything we needed and it had a charm that is unique these days. The deco was a little dated but the reception we had was excellent, the food good and it provided amazing value for money.
Did what it said on the label Nothing
Free wifi - something the larger hotel chains don't offer. Shower was good though basic, room & bed were warm & comfortable. A good nights sleep. There was carpet in the bathroom! Not much available for a veggie cooked breakfast.
Just what was required for an overnight stop
The staff were very efficient. It is a great location as a base for visiting Elan Valley and Gigrin Farm. Food was lovely. n/a
The Log Cabin bar attached to the hotel was good and was fairly cheap. Our room was huge and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was also pretty good. The hotel is very dated and could do with a bit of tlc. The bath in our room was dirty which is never a good thing, and also bathroom was cold as it had no heating in there.
leaving! lack of hot water, lack of staff, poor or no lighting, no heating in room, room was very small, I had to sit on the bed to use the dressing table because the bed was in the way of pulling out the chair, tea/coffee cups in the room were big dirty old chipped mugs. Linen needs to be updated and freshened. Food - menu was simple, no imagination, tasteless, we didn't want breakfast the next morning as we had to leave early but we were charged for it anyway!! Hotel decor is dingy and out dated. Car park was full with vehicles not belong to hotel guests and the hotel owner selling cars in the hotel car park, this left no parking spaces for hotel guests, we had to park next door!! Basically I didn't like anything about this hotel or it's staff, the staff are not professionals and come across like it was their first day working in a hotel.
Lots of hot water - tea/coffee service in room- nice breakfast - nice staff Poor decor - terrible shower - there was a constant buzzing sound in the room preventing me from getting a good night's sleep.
Good food and service No hot water
Friendly Staff and Clientelle, We were allowed our dogs in the room at no extra charge, excellent food, thoroughly enjoyable,Would recommend Nothing
visit relations food could be better
The pool and leisure facilities were good. The staff were polite. The service for food was poor and whilst the room was adequate, it was not generally clean, the mattress was in a poor condition resulting in general discomfort. The shaver socket was not working and there was no remote control for the tv which had only 3 channels available.
room was excellent, staff were very friendly, food was excellent
The leisure facilities! Our room seemed recently decorate but the hotel looked a little tired elsewhere but the pool and changing area were fabulous and the reason we booked I thought breakfast was a little steep at £7.50 each so we declined
Swimming pool and sauna. Interesting historic and scenic location. Would just like to comment that there seemed to be a lack of staff. One Polish girl ran the bar all evening until closing time. At 7.00 AM next morning she was already mopping floors which she had to stop in order to cook breakfasts. While guests were eating breakfast she was vacuuming Reception and the bar, nipping back to the kitchen to cook toast etc. Seems likely that she cleaned the rooms later as well as no one else was in evidence.
The team at the Burton are excellent. They are all helpful and firendly and we know then well so its a favourite place to stay There were one or two minor things about the cleaning of the rooms that needed attention. The rooms also need some TLC and refurbishment.
the fitness facilities/swimming/gym/sauna The early am/late night noise from upper and adjoining bedrooms made restful nights difficult. The bedroom was unbearabley hot. We were initially invoiced for breakfast for 2 days that we did not have (had breakfast 1 day), although this was quickly resolved (only discovered as we checked the bill prior to paying). Breakfast was overpriced for the portion size and overall quality.
Food was mediocre, staff were poor and seemed far too busy. Good location. Not worth the money.
good food , good beer , friendly staff , quiet.
Could not fault this guesthouse
Very beautifull B&B in a very nice surroundings with lovely and friendly hosts.a wonderfull Breakfast, would recommend to anyone... None, everything was excellent
Very pleasant well run hotel with a good breakfast and attentive staff None
Room was brilliant as was the whole experience. Tony was an excellent host. None to think of.
excellent high quality
Very welcoming and friendly hosts. a wonderful room withexcellent facilities. None.
exceptional food/attention to detail no
everything was fantastic would stay there again
Very high standard of accommodation with a friendly welcome, excellent breakfast and very good value for money.
Very well appointed, spotlessly clean, comfortable relatively late booking in time
Staff is really nice and friendly, in overall the hotel is comfy and nice, the bar is awesome and you have a chance to meet some locals because it's open to public Two things - should work on the food, it wasnt bad but we expected something more out of it and should get some guiness in the bar :)
Delicious good value food and very friendly helpful staff, hotel is a lovely old building in a beautiful location Rooms are in need of some refurbishment but this is planned for the near future
Friendly Staff. Large bedroom. Food was well prepared & good value.
Interesting building, close to town centre, staff friendly and helpful On arrival room very cold. One of the coldest nights of the year yet despite pre booking no-one had the gumption to turn the radiator on
Excellant food /very good service Soiled toilet I had to clean given triple room on arrival not sure if towels had been used hanging over sink and bath single bed looked clean but standard of make up very poor I thought it may have been used on checking I gave them the benifit of doubt should have been given room14 but given room 15 room on arrival basic room for executive room perhaps 3beds makes room executive room
The Only thing I enjoyed was the food If room 14 was supposed to be executive, then I dread to think what standard would be. To say I was dissapointed would be an understatement. One bedside table didn'twork, the shaving light in the bathroom didn't work, the TV remote control was faulty, windows were drafty, an extension lead wa used to supply a number of electrical items. I would not class room 14 as an executive room.
Food was very good Rooms are in need of refurbisment and the frustration of the door key not working correctly
A beautiful hotel and stunning four poster room, very well looked after by exceptionally friendly staff, both breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were superb and excellent value for money 10 out of 10
Hotel in general need of re-decoration - this gave the rooms a poor appearance
