Great location, clean facilities and reasonable price if you don't mind shared bathrooms.
Price is good, as long as you are clear on what you get.
Rooms are small, outdated, and my room did not have a sink. Realized that my room would not have a bathroom - shared bathrooms in the hallway, but other rooms I've stayed in here have sinks in the room.
The hotel was nicer than I expected. The decor was pleasant (wooden doors, etc.), though not ornate.
The shared bathrooms are mildly inconvenient, but not bad once you get the hang of it.
The Location and price is the reason I stay here.
The Shared bathroooms
Location - close to 3rd ave and union square / village
the bed was awful
- nice hotel - great location - good price
- noisy air/conditioning - dirty curtain in a bathroom
Location and thats all
Hotel room stung of Cigarettes even though I specified non smoking room. Also the rooms were being renovated and every morning it was so noisy. perhaps renovation should have been done in the afternoons. Also to make toll free calls in New York , had to go through the hotel reception- i find this unnecessary.
The rooms were clean, the staff were helpful and the location was close to the metro stop. There are two shared bathrooms for the entire floor but they were always clean to use.
The location and the staff were extremely helpful and accomodating. This place is excellent except for the beds being too short!! But other than that we loved staying here because everthing else about the place was on key.
The bed was too short. Thats the only drawback to this place. I'm not that tall either. Just 5;6 so cant imagine what it woul be like for a person who is 6 foot.
The hotel offers basic accomodation for people who need a central position in ny. Shared bathroom is not a big problem since i found it clean and never had to wait to use it. The room is small but confortable. Walls are thin and noises during the night are quite common. Wifi sometimes works fine sometimes not at all. Fifth floor where i stayed is fine but i heard that other floors are not as peaceful.
Wifi connection could be better. Audio insulation between rooms is not sufficient.
The location and the staff.
Surprised not to find any mechanism to get boiling hot water --- no electric kettle, no microwave. Hence one cannot even prepare tea/coffee in the room.
Have stayed twice before and keep returning simply because of the fantastic location of the hotel. It's quiet and offers really good value for money considering the location and proximity to Union Square subway and East Village.
There has been a bit of an improvement on the decor of the hotel, which has gone from "classic" and quirky to just quirky. However, I felt that the cost of staying here, which has increased, probably to reflect the "revamp", isn't quite justified. Hope the price doesn’t go up much more or this great little hotel might just lose it’s high rating for "value for money"!
Hotel 17 suited perfectly to my 3-day City trip to NY.
Electronic door cards' system: especially in a hotel with Shared Bathroom the door key cards don't have to end at midnight!
My stay at Hotel 17 was a pleasant surprise. The hotel is clean. It is located in a lovely area. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Hotel 17 has ambience. I also enjoyed the energy of the other guests...I will stay there again when i am in New York.
The hotel is a great price in a great location. It reminds me of the quaint European hotels at which I like to stay. Very nice rooms and fine service. Quiet amid the hustle and bustle of the East Village. This is my favorite place in NYC at which to stay.
Everything was great.
Clanging water pipes that kept us up all night. No exaggeration. Room 617 it was.
