Found Becco on OpenTable and what a find !! Did not have all the standard pasta offerings - but we were very impressed with the wine list (over 50 bottle for $29) - fabulous. I am not that interested in expensive wine - just good valued wine. And found it here.\n\nThe meal was fabulous had the Aranciana (sp?) as the appetizer and Osso Buco and the Veal Chop for dinner. Not usually a fan of Caesar Salad - but this was very good - more acidic than normal. Very balanced.\n\nThe meats were some of the best I have tasted. Got the pasta kicker and loved the Shrimp Aribiatta (sp?) Pasta ...\n\nBecco is now on my list for favorite Italian in Manhattan - when we don't go to Little Italy of stay midtown near Times Square - Becco will be the place I visit.

BECCO-such a treat to return here, this time for a leasurely pre-theater luncheon. One of us had the always wonderful 3-pasta special. House Pinot Grigio excellent, reasonably priced. One Had thin-sliced veal dish & I had the thin-sliced beef. Both supurb‼ we even asked for more of the great bread basket offerings. Server knowledgeable, pleasant, an Italian gentleman who is the epitome of the best professional waiter-attentive, quietly friendly, explained dishes when requested and fine representative of this excellent restaurant. BECCO, worth a drive out of your way.

I had the fish special striped bass over couscous with vegetables. It was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The meal was delicious and not crazy expensive for NYC but our waiter was lacking. He had attitude and was unfriendly. I had a simple request for ice for my water and was ignored. I also asked a question about the dessert which he had attitude answering. Kind of ruined the night for me.

The food was very disappointing -- tasteless. The clams were very chewy and the fried calamari was so-so. I was expecting a great experience based on the Trip Advisor and Yelp reviews. The only great item was the $29 wine -- we had a Barbera di'Asti which was a very good value.

A generally good experience, staff seemed a little frazzled and the family style makes for a lot of traffic around your table, foodhandlers constantly coming and going. Unfortunately, we were seated near the kitchen which made that even worse. There are definitely a couple of tables that you don't want. That said, food was excellent, great choices, of course good wine and I love the breadbox starter . The staff certainly knew their roles and what they were doing and were professional almost to a fault. They need a better plan on busy nights when you can't get in exactly at your reservation time. They generally direct you to the back bar which is not really a bar as it's just another area of the dining room so not really conducive to waiting.

Becco was the perfect choice for a preshow dinner. Following a drink at the bar...Lidia's Pinot Grigio was out of this world... we were seated promptly at 4:30. Sitting at the bar, we were able to view the busy staff preparing for the opening of the restaurant...trays of fresh bread and servers busy with last minute checks of the tables. My second time at this niche restaurant row restaurant. It worth the wait while your food is being prepared, so plan on an hour plus to dine and do reserve, even for lunch, its Manhattan! I had the lemon pounded grilled chicken with arugula and with a Chianti Classico. Loved it. Light enough to enjoy the matinee show. I have had the sample fresh pasta trio all you can eat at another occassion and would have it again it after the show!! Just lovely. The only negative is you're crammed in, but that's New York.

Secco is down 1/2 flight of stairs in a brownstone on a great block of 46th St, which retains some of its old world charm and scale. We arrived at a crowded time a few minutes ahead of our reservation, but we were seated within 5 minutes. Plenty of bread, hummus, olive oil, and olives to start over cocktails. Rice ball appetizer was deep fried, which wasn't what we expected, but good. Traditional caesar salad was excellent & fresh. Catch of the day -yellowtail tuna over arugula entree was fantastic. Service was slow at first, but got better as we went along. Very courteous for NYC! I'd definitely return to try more of the choices on their menu.

Nice people and staff. Food was just ok overall. The caesar salad was normal and the pasta was good. That being said, it felt like a decent home cooked Italian meal. Becco feels like it was once a hot spot with a great vibe, then the chef just sort of stopped trying. For example, the all you can eat pasta entree was really disappointing; pesto with parsley was boring, spaghetti with red gravy was basic, and you just left thinking meh. \n\nAgain, nice people, cool vibe, close to theaters, and food was uninspiring.

Lunch for two, pre-theater, two entrees and one bottle of sparkling water came to about $70. No salad, drinks, or dessert. About par for NYC as was the crunched-in tables that we've come to expect. But the entrees were delicious and ample. I had a mixture of beef, veal, pork served in peppers, served on a bed of spinach spaetzle, with a red sauce on top. So tasty. Partner had chicken parm, huge portion, but no pasta which we found strange. \n\nThe service was top-notch, and there was no wait for the table and a reasonable wait for food. Bread basket was amazing. Bread sticks, bread, some kind of cheesy huumus dip, and a skylight in our dining area which made for a sunny, pretty ambience. \n\nWe didn't have drinks or dessert as it was noon and we were going to theater. Drinks and dessert would be later! \n\nLovely experience.

Had possibly the worst dining experience I've ever had on Saturday. Had a 630pm reservation (which I made approximately 30 days in advance). Table was not ready, but that is quite understandable at that time on a Saturday. We were asked to wait in the bar area. The bar was already overcrowded with patrons waiting for their tables. We were basically standing next to people that were trying to have a meal as well. It was very uncomfortable. Everyone was trying to stay out of the servers way and keep a distance from the patrons that were trying to eat.\nWhen our table was ready we were seated at table directly inside and to the right of the front door. Our server finally came over after approximately 10 minutes and we asked for waters and wine. My wife has a shellfish allergy and was attempting to discuss this with the server and stated 'I had a few questions on the menu.....', he rudely interrupted her, spouted off the three pastas of the day and the specials and walked away. At this point, the table next to us that was seated almost 15 minutes after us began receiving their salads and we had not even gotten our drinks yet. While this was going on, the area around our table became overcrowded with people attempting to get a table. I was continuously bumped in to and had to constantly move the table further along the wall so I could sit comfortably. We asked our server if he could speak with the hostess about controlling the overcrowding and he responded by saying 'You want a new table?....Fine' and walked away. After a few more minutes the hostess came over and asked if we were the ones that wanted a new table. I explained to her that we never asked for a new table, just to have crowd controlled a bit and that our server was extremely rude about the whole thing. Including interrupting my wife. At this point, we had no desire to eat here and we left. We were looking forward to eating here. The restaurant has the feel of cash grab cashing in on Lidia's name.

This was my second time trying out this place and I was excited about it since I had a good experience the first time. Their specialty is the chefs choice 3 unlimited pasta meal. The pasta was marginal to say the least. One of the 3 options was a pasta with cauliflower which was an odd combination. The other was spaghetti which was like a kids version. I will most likely not go there again as there are many options in the city.

This restaurant has had consistently good food for years. We go because we KNOW what we are going to get and we love it. We always order the 'lunch special' which is three different pastas (served family style) for lunch. It is a great value for NYC that includes salad and endless pasta if you wish. Of course, the meal is started with a huge box of bread/breadsticks for you to enjoy with a side of oil and hummus! YUM!

The downstairs was crowded and bustling! We sat the bar and had a drink before being escorted to our table which, unfortunately was upstairs. While the downstairs had a cozy ambience, the room we were seated in was brightly lit. The service was great. The food was all wonderful. They were out of the special I ordered so I quickly chose the 'all you can eat' three fresh pastas, which were delicious. The $29 bottles of wine make this quite an affordable night out. It was a great dinner after a matinee. I would try it again and request a different room - apparently there are many!

Food and service are always top-notch, however this particular night the atmosphere was terrible. I don't know if the room we were in is new or what, but it's a stark contrast to the beautiful homey feeling of the first floor. If you are able to request a table, see if you can sit anywhere else but the second floor because it's legit awful. EVEN SO, I STILL highly recommend Becco for locals and tourists alike. The special Burrata with broccoli rabe that night just melts in your mouth. And I've never had a bad wine on the $25 list...So good...

I guess I expected more from Felidia's sister restaurant. Since Felidia is one of my favorite restaurants I was hoping post theater dining at Becco would be a treat. However, only go if you are going pre-theater as they can get you in&out with a decent meal. But don't expect anything special. It is almost like good cafeteria food. The all you can eat pasta special (3 kinds) was bland as was the Caesar salad that comes with the entree. I was very disappointed overall. I would go again pre theater but only to eat quick. Otherwise if you want a good meal and have time go to Felidia on the east side, I wish I did!

This was our second visit to Becco. We love it. In general it is,a phenominal place for dinner and we will without a doubt return. This trip there were just a couple things I was a little disappointed with but none that would change my mind about returning. The thins were minor in nature. We were seated at very small table for dinner and basically had to climb over another table (we're not small people) with a family of 4 with two young children who when talking would shout over the rest of the patrons (again we came at the height of dinner time and they were young) once they and the theatre crowd left left the noise factor went way down so that was great!. The only other thing I was disappointed with was that we were there celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary (which we did notify them of in our reservation) and not that we were expecting anything from them for it, it would have been nice if they just acknowledged or at least thanked us for coming to celebrate it with them. Otherwise, the food was fantastic! We had the special.. short-ribs with sweet potatoes & kale. Absolutely delicious! I recommend this place for everyone!

First time at Becco and I assure you it will most definitely NOT be my last. The Bastianich's have created a beautiful space with awesome cuisine. Went pre theatre party of 4, sat at the bar where the bartenders were not only cordial but masters of their craft. Great martini except they didn't have my favorite vodka, oh well. Now for the main reason I am going back, the food was fantastic. Started with the pulpo salad which to be honest was not the best I have had, but the meatballs were outstanding. For my main course I had the veal picatta, what a treat, delicious although I prefer artichokes with my picatta. Everyone else had the pasta special which is apropos given how fantastic all 3 yes all 3 pasta dishes were. The ravioli and pesto were superb, my favorite was the pasta and shrimp. All keep coming as much as you want. This was capped with a $29 bottle of a excellent red which unfortunately I neglected to get the name of. Imagine buying a bottle of wine for $29 in NYC, crazy good. This is the real deal, Cent'anni to the Bastianich familia.

Very conveniently located and, if you are willing to eat the three pastas that are offered on the night you are there, a reasonable deal. Problem is that, if you don't want those pastas, meal becomes more expensive. My fish special was extremely salty and greens sausage were very unappetizing. Polenta was thick and gooey - in a bad way. Also - my GF son ordered the steak which appeared nicely charred however, the char hid lots of fat and tough meat and they have these weirdly short (maybe 3' blade) steak knives which make it very awkward and difficult to cut the steak. Staff was nice and pretty attentive. Very touristy crowd. Very close to Richard Rogers theater, which is how we ended up there. Won't go back.

I have eaten at Becco several times and have recommended it often to out of town visitors. While the downstairs décor is pleasant, the upstairs is dingy and the carpet smells and needs to be replaced. Why put lunch customers upstairs when the kitchen is downstairs and the tables are empty? Knowing that one serving of the pasta tasting menu is enormously filling we tried to order two specialty salads (antipasto misto and grilled calamari) with one pasta serving. We (two small women) were told that our plates would be taken away if we tried to share. Being threatened at lunch is unacceptable and being forced to order more than you can eat is also bad business. It's a $100 lunch either way. Needless to say, the tip was small and I won't be returning or recommending Becco in the future.

I've been to Becco many times. On this particular night, it was so crowded and the hostess was telling everyone to go into the bar area, where there was no room to stand at all. It really was a fire hazard. She even tried to seat people at those tables and those customers, while we were in there, asked for different tables. Way too crowded. We had a reservation and we only waited a few minutes past the time. We were lucky to be seated upstairs in the back where there are few tables and less noise. The pasta was inconsistent. First time we had risotto, it was hard....literally crunchy. The next round was fine. The pasta with broccoli and garlic was so garlicky that it burned your mouth and lips. I would say the food was no where near what we've had at previous visits. It was disappointing. As for the crowd in the bar, if you are going to use it as a waiting area, give up those few tables in there. No one wants to eat while people are brushing up against you from behind. I think you've stretched everything to the limit. I'm not sure I will return.

We had a 6:30 reservation, arrived 15 minutes early and were seated about 5 minutes after we arrived. Getting to our table was a bit difficult as all the tables are placed very close together using every inch of space. It was very warm in the restaurant making it quite uncomfortable with no desire to order dessert. The service was very bad - slow, diners were not served at the same time - the food was mediocre (the pastas that are carrried around the dining room were cold, the salad was limp etc.) and the noise level was so high it was close to impossible to talk. We won't be back.

I am not sure how this restaurant has that good reviews. Went there for restaurant week. We had refrigerated salad, ceviche, and grilled veggies (also refrigerated). We knew it was refrigerated because the plates were cold and moist. The three pasta specials were artichoke ravioli, fettuccini and rigatoni bolognese, the bolognese was the most edible but not so great. We also had the salmon with beet root which was good. For desert we had refrigerated Panna cotta which was also good. \n\nThe place was empty and they seated customers in different areas so we were the only party of two in the hall we had lunch in which felt a bit empty. The bar area had more people then there was another area with a few more. \n\nThe service was excellent and staff were attending.

This was a great Pre-theatre choice! The service from the bartender to the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The menu has a great selection of choices and the pasta was heavenly! Their braised shirt rib special was outstanding. Tables were close but our fellow diners were wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

We were seated upstairs. Zero ambiance. Nothing on the walls, lights too bright and tables crowded way too close. Ordered the 'striped bass' which tasted like Chilean sea bass. My wife ordered the pasta, which was roughly similar to what you would expect at a cheap 'family style' Italian restaurant. Hard to find any good food close to the Broadway theaters so I guess Becco remains popular for its location.

They were vague on line about Restaurant Week participation, so much so that 3 other tables next to us thought they were participating for dinner when they were not. They do have a nice pasta prix-fixe that actually turned out to be cheaper than the restaurant week price. Food was average though, nothing special. \n\nI had wanted to go there for awhile and actually was rather disappointed. They have shoved so many tables close together you feel like you could eat off the plate of the person next to you rather than your own. Close to theaters and very good service, but others on the street have better food.

My husband and I went for dinner and had a wonderful meal. Our waiter was very attentive, made sure my husband's meal could be prepared gluten free, and helped us pick a delicious wine. First of all, the bread was very good, and you also get olives and what I think was a white bean spread. I ordered Branzino, which came with crispy roasted potatoes and leeks. It was filleted perfectly and very tasty. A Caesar salad is included with entrees. I also ordered the supplemental pasta of the day for my appetizer. You get 3 homemade pastas - that day was Linguine Vongole, Farfalle w/ Tomato and Basil and a Beet and Goat Cheese ravioli. All three were delicious and the pasta was perfectly al dente. My favorite was the ravioli. My husband had the Veal Chop. I can't remember what it was served with, but he loved it. We had no room for dessert, maybe next time. I would definitely go back to Becco.

This was our third trip to Becco. We were seated in small room upstairs that appeared to be freshly redone, however with nothing on the walls it was very plain and uninspired. Our reservation was at 8pm on a Sunday and it was quieter than I expected. Service was on the slow side. I asked the server to recommend a wine and he was not very helpful. We only ordered entrees and I added on the pasta sampler. The salads are included in the entrees and came out first, but were not good - overdressed and watery. Two of the three pastas were a disappointment - spaghetti with marinara (ok nothing special, sauce is tangy and not to my liking), penne with a nutmeg or cinnamon flavor that made it unpalatable for me, and a artichoke ravioli which was delicious. The entrees were great, we had the ribeye (bisteca alla becco) which was succulent and cooked to perfection and the salmon. The sides for the entrees (broccoli and fries for the steak and I think watercress for the salmon) were ok, but not remarkable. Sitting upstairs I felt left out from the energy and coziness of the downstairs dining rooms. We'll come back again but I'll request seating downstairs and ask what the pastas are before ordering next time.

We were celebrating my sister BD in NY. Had dined there in past and enjoyed. My meal was very good, my sister was a little disappointed with hers (she got the 3 pastas) she felt one of them was a little dry and the second on ok but she loved the mushroom ravioli. What was disappointing was her son had called the resteraunt and a gotten a gift card they were to have given us. He did tell them my name as I had made the reservation. We found that out after having had dinner there. Well we never were given the card. As he lives in Chicago and we live in Massachusetts we would not be in NY to use it. My sister called that night and was quite upset because at that time, they didn't,t want to credit his account. They were to get back to her. I doubt we will be going again.

At Becco you can enjoy top notch food and wine in an affordable and casual way. I love the fixed price wine list. Most importantly, we very much enjoyed the food - from the delicious olives, bread and spread, through our entrees (we didn't have dessert). The symphony of three pastas was outstanding. However, I would not recommend going on a Saturday night, prime time. The place was uncomfortably packed and noisy at the bar and in the second floor room where we were seated. In addition, my caesar salad was a bit wilted, as if it had been sitting too long. I received one portion of pasta cold - which was quickly replaced with a hot serving - but which suggests that the staff was a bit overwhelmed by the crowd. I would definitely return - just not at prime dinner hour on a Saturday.

They had some very good selections of affordable $29 per bottle wines to choose from. Which the cab we selected was very tasty and worth the price. They had a special where you got a choice between anti pasta or Ceasar salad plus a choice of three different kinds of pasta (all you can eat). The bread was hot and fresh. Food and wine were very good, however, difficult to enjoy. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would have their waiters putting dirty dishes in a plastic tub located in the dining room. The restaurant is loud enough and then to have the constant banging of dishes being put in these tubs was just to much. We were seated just inside the downstairs dining area right near these 'tubs'. I think Lydia should try sitting there on a busy Saturday night and experience what her customers have to put up with. The kitchen is the place for dirty dishes not the main dining room. Unfortunately, it ruined what could have been a lovely evening. Have been to Becco's many times and this is the first time I experienced this. Did not say anything at the time as we had brought another couple with us who were visiting from Europe. My party of 5 dined at Becco this past weekend and we THROUGHLY UNIMPRESSED and somewhat upset during my whole experience at Becco. 3 people in my dinner party ordered the pasta special. First of all it was cold when served, they only offered seconds of the pasta they liked an hour and a half after the three pastas were served. They were very unimpressed at the choice of pasta.. linguine with clams, beet and goat cheese ravioli, and a pappardelle with tomato sauce. If you didn't like clams.. you got no other choice of protein... my meal, the Osso Busco was forgotten about and I didn't get to eat with my party! I ate after everyone was finished. My risotto barley was nothing special. The veal shank was very good but not worth a whopping $43 dollars for the suckiest service I could ever imagine on top. Our water cups were always dry and we had to ask each time for someone to fill them. Our waiter apologised for the mix up on my dinner but never offered anything in return. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I came to Becco to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. This was the best decision I've ever made. She already loved Lydia so I knew I scored points there. The experience lived up to her expectations. The food was good. The wine was good. Our server was attentive. We really had a great time. This went down as one of the most memorable nights in our relationship, and Becco had a lot to do with it. I recommended this restaurant to several friends. Becco is amazing. It is an experience everyone should have at least once in their life. On behalf of the birthday girl, and myself, you so much for an amazing night.

Convenient for before a show. A bit cramped and loud but we knew this going in so wasn't a detraction from the meal. The daily all you can eat pasta was very good and good value, as was the decent $29 bottle wine list. Food wasn't spectacular, but very good and filling--just what we expected at this price point. Service was attentive, could have been a little more accommodating--very loud in busing tables and getting around to each table. Probably would return for the food and proximity to the theater district.

I've been to Becco's many times, however the past couple of visits have been highly disappointing. I went with a friend for a pre-theatre dinner. I always expect a crowd due to the all you can eat pasta specials and value wine list. The last few times however were BEYOND crowded, so much so that it was not enjoyable. Our table was so close to the tables on either side of us that we may as well have been dining together. The dining rooms as well as the bar area are so jammed, you can not walk or move. Have to use the restroom? Forget it! The food used to be really good, so dealing with the crowd was a minor annoyance. Unfortunately that has not been the case my last couple of visits. We ordered the pasta special, it was medicocre at best. Dessert was no better with the cannoli being runny and the coffee served so cold I had to send it back. It was my friends first time and I was actually embarrassed for suggesting it. I understand pre-theatre meals can be somewhat frenzied, but this was over the top. Becco's would do better turning a few people away to make the food and overall dining experience a much better one.

I had been to Becco twice before and enjoyed the pasta and the ambience. The last visit was mediocre at best. The service was inconsistent and the pasta was not very flavorful. We love Becco, the food is always delicious & the value is always good for NYC. I was disappointed with the service this time however. I made a reservation & made a point of telling them my husband was in a cast & on crutches, requesting a first floor out of the way table. While they did put us on the first floor, our table was in a very busy area rather than a side table out of the way. I also had to ask 3 times to get one of the 3 pasta selections, the waitress served another person at our table then walked away with a full pan without serving me for some unknown reason. Will chalk this up to an aberration and try again, but never with someone with a disability issue.

Out with friends - upstairs room recently renovated and new bathrooms were convenient - very good food, although the striped bass special was not as extraordinary as many other entrees. They asked if we were rushed for a theater engagement, which we were not, so they let us enjoy our meal at a more leisurely pace. The pasta trio is very popular and well-presented with fresh hot portions. The $29 wine list is a great chance to experience the Italian tradition of wine with meals without blowing up the credit line. One of our favorite restaurants for the food and ambience, although the bar tables are tight and the room can get loud.

An excellent choice for pre theater dining. Being on restaurant row, they're definitely geared towards moving pre theater guests through on time.\n\nI've been here several times and always end up getting the 3 pasta special. This time I ordered the grilled veal chop which was surprisingly excellent. I only say surprisingly because most rest row places are overrated. The veal chop may have been the best I've had.\n\nEvery entrée comes with César salad. Also excellent with home made dressing and not over dressed. Very tasty.\n\nThe meatball appetizer was also very good. Most dine out 'sunday sauce' meatballs are mediocre as compared to the 100 year old family recipe. These were pretty good and worth ordering.\n\nIt's also worth mentioning that they have an extensive $29.99 wine list with many good choices for a dinner wine.\n\nA latte and some cookies and we were out the door 20 minutes before show time. Perfect timing.

This is always a favorite of ours when we are in New York City. Whenever we have gone they always ask you to wait in their crowded bar area. Most of the time, including this visit, the wait is very short. As we soon as we were seated at our table, we were greeted and received water and shortly thereafter bread and a delicious dip. We ordered the 3 pasta special(which is always hard to turn down) which was excellent. This choice comes with Caesar salad or antipasto. The stuffed shells were light and creamy and so delicious. The short rib with homemade pappardelle was hearty and rich. The fusili with pesto sauce was also excellent. You could smell the fresh basil when it was put on the plate. The servings are always plentiful and you are always offered more. The three choice pasta changes daily so you never know what delightful dish you will have. When you visit NYC, it is always a great place to dine.

As expected, Becco was crowded and rather noisy. (Given it's reputation and it's theater district location it is hard to imagine it being anything else!) Our table was ready within 10 minutes of our reserved time (long enough to grab a cocktail in the well stocked and friendly bar). The menu was varied and interesting. We went for the swordfish and short ribs - both were excellent! We shared the delicious ricotinna for dessert. The $29 wine list was extensive and varied (we had the Syrah). Came for the first time to celebrate my birthday and our engagement. Food was very good. We shared the lamb and the veal chop. The $29 bottle of wine list was a great touch. All in all, my only problem was how close we were sitting to the other tables. They had to pull out our 2 top to let my fiancé sit, and then sat another table on the other side of us. I felt like if he needed to get up for any reason it would have been an upset to half of the dining room. I'm just wondering, how much money would they really lose by pulling one table and giving their guests some space? There are so many places to dine in the theatre district, I'm more interested in trying somewhere else now, unless we're in a larger group, which is disappointing, because the food and service really were outstanding.

We have been to Becco 'pre-theatre' several times, with good results. Unfortunately, this last visit was not one of those times. We were seated upstairs, in a nice table tucked away in the corner. At first, I thought this an advantage; cozy and not as noisy. But I think that it may also have been part of the problem we later had.\n\nOur waiter was excellent - courteous and efficient (Becco has managing large numbers on a pre-theatre schedule down to a science). And we ordered the usually dependable 'three pasta' special, which on this particular night comprised artichoke ravioli, linguini with white clam sauce and farfalle in tomato basil sauce. The good news is that the artichoke ravioli were terrific (and I am not a fan of artichoke, so there). They were, however, lukewarm at best, which was somewhat disappointing. The farfalle were tasty, but drenched in sauce and also lukewarm. Worse still, when the linguini with clam sauce came around (for my wife, as I am not a clam fan), it was cold (and clearly the last portion left in the pan). We had to ask our waiter to arrange for someone to come by with another pan of linguini, and the second try was a bit better. But, all in all, not the best evening.\n\nThat said, our three previous evenings at Becco were much better (and, yes, the pastas were hot on those occasions, and the non-pasta dishes were also excellent). So, I still recommend Becco. But you might want to try to sit downstairs, a little closer to the kitchen, so that the food gets to you more directly.

As usual, our meal at Becco was wonderful. Started with a delicious Tonnato di Vitello -- so authentic. My lamb chop was not the usual 'skinny' bone chop. The Porterhouse d'Agnello was grilled perfectly -- so succulent. We ordered a good, reasonably priced Rosso di Montalcino. My only complaint is that the restaurant is not very 'kid friendly' -- we had to order a pasta and a separate order of meatballs. More expensive than it should have been and way too much food. There are not too many real Italian restaurants west of broadway w/o going deep into hell's kitchen so this is a great spot for solid Italian food with a menu that is diverse enough to please everyone and accessible enough to not come off as snobby. This was probably our tenth visit to Becco and once again it was excellent. The pastas were a treat as usual; the three varieties available were all very fresh and tasty. Our server was proficient; their memorizing the vast number of specials was impressive. Other menu items and specials were delicious and expertly prepared. The dessert special, cannoli, were among the best in the city. Service was professional as usual. Becco continues to be an excellent restaurant offering one of the best values in the city.

I've been to Becco many times, mainly for dinner -sometimes for lunch- it is a good, reliable place for pre-theater meals and has good value wine list. Dinner is also reasonably priced and comes with salad. However we were very disappointed to see that lunch does not come with salad and for the same food lunch is more expensive than dinner. Feels like a rip-off. If Becco continues this pricing policy for lunch then we will go to nearby restaurants on 9th ave instead

While a good choice in the theatre district and a good value, find the Caesar salad tasteless and the pasta dishes pretty ordinary. Everyone was pleased with their entrees - salmon, pork, sausage, seafood. We were seated on the terrace upstairs - it was uncomfortably cold. We kept our coats on. Hard to find great food in the theatre district, but I'd opt for Blue Fin.

My party of two had lunch here in mid-December. Our server was outstanding. Thank you, Molly. The dining room was only about half full but it was still fairly noisy so be prepared for noise if you go for dinner. We ordered several of the specials. The pork belly appetizer was great. The salad of bay scallops was just ok. The three-pasta special had one great pasta, one fairly good, and one very ordinary. The stuffed peppers with spinach spaetzle was good but probably a poor choice for us. The special canollis for desert were the best I've ever had - pistachio. I have to wonder if Becco is riding slightly on the reputation of its famous owner/chef but I would return to try again.

Unfortunately we did not get one of their better servers, and if he is as good as they have then she really needs to deal with their servic. As can be the case with so many of these 'famous' chef restaurants the NAME is worth much more than the service and food.

Having dined here several times before, I was very disappointed when having lunch with a friend who had never been to Becco. We were seated at a table which was near a draft from the front entrance that caused us to have to keep our coats on. We requested one of the empty tables further from the entrance, but were told they were reserved. (We also had a reservation.) The food which I had highly recommended to my friend from previous visits was only fair, even the funghi which I had ordered each time I dined here. My friend ordered a drink which never appeared until she asked for it a second time midway through the meal. The final disappointment came when we used the ladies room and found it to be unclean.

We were seated almost immediately upon arrival. Our appetizers were wonderful, especially excellent arancini. The bread service, including stellar breadsticks, white bean dip and olives was excellent. We availed of Becco's $29 bottle of wine. Many good choices there, both red and white. Before our main course we had a Caesar salad. The dressing was sufficiently subtly flavored with anchovy, which some Italian restaurants are afraid to do... Our Tuscan Bistecca di Manzo per Due Porterhouse was perfectly seasoned and accurately medium rare. (It was a bit more than we could handle, so enough came back with us for another meal!). All in all, the service was top-notch, attentive but not obtrusive. It is an excellent choice for couples or for family/group occasions alike.

Went with my son. Our dinner was not very good. 2 out of 3 pastas were bland and flavorless, the 3rd was a manicotti in a vodka sauce which was not good. Maybe the other other menu items are good. Didn't try those so can't really comment. Caesars salad which came with the pastas was also bland and flavorless. The 3 pasta sampling was really disappointing. All the pastas were on the same plate even though they had different sauces. Marinara mixed with vodka sauce? One of the pastas, penne in marinara sauce, was different each time they brought out more. 1st time seemed like it was all sauce and little penne. Last time it was much better than the first serving. I think they combined the pastas when the pan that they are served in was getting low. The third time penne came around it was in a much lighter sauce.\n\nWe ordered the antipasto in addition to the salad. Antipasto was just weird. It had pink pickled cauliflower and a fish which I think was fried cod. In any event there were green beans served with a wasabi type of glaze. Wasabi? In an Italian restaurant? 9 out of 10 Italian people I know would not have eaten it. I tried it, and again, interesting idea, for a Japanese place....not italian.\n\nDessert was fine. I guess I expected more. \n\n If your expecting a good Italian place, this may not be the place. Or at least avoid the 3 pasta special. Really can't comment on rest of the menu. Atmosphere was fine. Service was good. Saw other reviews where people complain about it being loud and cramped, again this is an Italian restaurant. That is the atmosphere you should expect. \n\nAs to the price, If you think about it $29 for all you can eat pasta sounds like a deal. For $29 they give you a salad or appetizer with the 3 pastas. For New York, probably reasonably priced.\n\nReally wanted to like Becco.\n\nSpoke to other people who had been to Becco before and they liked it. Maybe it was an off night.

My boyfriend and I were the first ones upstairs but were soon joined by lots of people. It got very crowded and loud and when the people next to us sat down, I felt like we were on top of each other. They kept looking over at us as if we were going to knock into them. For the food, the bread, bread sticks, hummus type of spread was delicious. We chose the unlimited pasta - Sinfonia di Paste for $24.95 each. My boyfriend chose the Caesar salad and I chose the Antipasto Misto. The Antipasto Misto was great - the sundried tomato was the best I've ever eaten and the Caponata was amazing. The pasta specials were Spaghetti alla Chitarra with Tomato & Fresh Basil, Orecchiette with Roasted Bacon & Braised Cabbage, and Mushroom Ravioli. My boyfriend loved the Mushroom Ravioli the best and I loved the Orecchiette. Our least favorite was the spaghetti. We also got the salmon add-on for our entree but I did not like it because I hate beets. He ate about half. Nothing to rave about, we have had better. If we were to return, we would not order an entree add-on because the pasta is more than enough. I also was confused because no one brought us over more pasta and I started to think that the menu was deceiving - I felt it was a 3 pasta tasting, not 3 unlimited pastas. I wound up finishing everything and 15 minutes later then we were asked if we wanted more. At this point I was done and if I knew anyone was coming back over, I would have asked for more or not finished the spaghetti and saved room. Also, I didn't know we could take home because I've been at places where unlimited food means you can't take home. I would have liked to have been served more, ate some more and then taken the rest home because I really enjoyed the other two pastas.

Oh my goodness we had the best time celebrating a friend's birthday at Becco's earlier this week. I had insisted my friends needed to see The Color Purple before it closed and so we chose Becco's as the kick off to this day and it did not disappoint (and neither did The Color Purple). We were there to celebrate my friend and catch up after the long holiday so can't express how great it was to be able to order the 3 pasta of the day special served table side as we caught up. Everyone's favorite was the arugula garlic. The $29 bottle wine list is also genius and again enables you to make a quick decision so we could focus on the company not the menus in front of us. The staff was convivial and speedy and warm and fun and naturally I will be going right back there the next time I see a show - which is often! I have a 1st Tuesday of the Month Theater Club and about 10 of us (at least) gather before or after the show for a meal. Becco's will be perfect for our March show: Come From Away. Cheers!

Went with my wife, nephew and his wife for a New Years Eve pre-concert dinner. Had a 6:15 reservation, arrived on time. The restaurant was maybe 1/3 full, it was still early for NYE. When seated, we walked by a completely open first floor, taken, to the second floor (which had maybe two occupied tables) and were seated in a corner next to one of the only occupied tables. I don't know why we would have been seated in the worst table in the restaurant that was clearly wide open. I asked to be moved and we were accommodated. We sat downstairs where it was much more lively. I would have preferred to sit in the back behind the bar but let it be. This initial seating choice is the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. As tourists you are always a little leery of restaurants in tourist areas. Do not hesitate to come to Becco. The food was incredibly good. We had their special menu offering of 3 pastas, served tableside, which comes with a delicious Caesar Salad or an appetizer. We had the salads. You may have as many servings of the pasta as you wish, but we were so full, we didn't even go for seconds, even though they were offered several times. For dessert try either the chocolate mousse cake or the gelato trio. To. Die. For. My husband and I had one night in NYC en route to Boston for the holidays and four separate friends suggested Becco for dinner. We were not disappointed, it was fantastic. We were seated at a table for two in the lower back dining room, squeezed between two other couples. Yes, you could easily have joined in your neighbors' conversation or grabbed a bite off their plates, but it's a crowded NYC Italian joint and we knew that going in. We had a wonderful bottle of wine from the $29 menu (how can you beat that)? Thankfully we declined appetizers since dinner comes with salad (unlimited) and we opted to add the pasta course. The pastas were delicious and since I always have a hard time choosing, it was great to get three different types. For entrees my husband chose veal parmesan and I had chicken parmesan (not on the menu but offered by our server). Both were enormous and spot-on delicious. This was the perfect choice for us as we were looking for a great meal more than a swanky hot spot. The prices were very reasonable, in fact, a couple drinks at the hotel bar before dinner cost more than our whole tab at Becco.

LOVE Becco. I try to go anytime I'm in the city. Be advised that it is a high energy, very busy restaurant, so don't expect low light, quiet conversation and romantic vibes. The food is AMAZING. I have never been disappointed. The wine list is also impressive and always very affordable. The staff is efficient and in sync and on the up side of that - we never wanted for a beverage, refill on our pasta or felt we were not being attended to. The downside is we did feel a bit rushed and it seemed like they were trying to move us through, quickly. It's understandable for as busy a place it is. And that fact will never have me no eating there, it is so delicious, I am happy I can get a reservation! Great to go before a show, they will get you in and out in no time.

We chose Becco for a special pre concert meal. We found the food and service to be very good and thoroughly enjoyed our experience though it must be noted as many other reviewers have noted that the size and amount of tables crammed into the space takes away from the overall experience. When the bread tray arrived at the table we had to rearrange everything else on the table to find 3 inches of space to precariously balance it on the edge of the table. we literally could have taken food from the table next to us and we were forced to listen to their conversation through out our meal. Even the rest room was cramped. A table or 2 less in each room would have made the experience terrific.

We've been going to Becco for years. However, lately the meals and service in our last few times have been simple, tired and careless. When the servers carelessly and quickly dish the caesar salad out of a large plate, they don't even put *all* the salad on our plates. We have to ask to give us all of it. Why not serve all of it? We don't get it. The all-you-can-eat pasta doesn't have any flavor. Have they heard of seasoning? The men who serve it move at a rapid pace, dishing it out carelessly, splashing it about - we have to eat it, why do they do that? I think that this restaurant is a cash cow for the well-known owners, it's always booked, so they don't have to care how the food is cooked or served any more. Sad.

The noise level was a bit high because it was the Saturday dinner rush before the theater. But great service and great food!! Definitely recommending this place.

We had a great experience at Becco! The food was delicious, the wine was wonderful, our service was great, and for a good NYC restaurant, the prices were very reasonable. This is not the place for a quiet, private meal, as we were practically rubbing elbows with our neighbors, but we found the boisterous social environment to be quite fun! I highly recommend the Galleto Al Forno - roasted chicken with a butternut squash risotto that was superb!

Food was excellent-had the pasta entree which for 24.95 was a bargain in the theater district. You check their Facebook page the day you are dining to see what the 3 pastas are. They are served table side and you get all three with either a caesar salad or an appetizer of grilled veggies and some fish. Both were very good. My wife had the swordfish which was also very well prepared and served. even tho incredibly busy very attentive service. Highly recommend before a show but reservations in advance are a must.

The breadsticks were really good. \nMy friend and I had the calves liver and our wives had the 3 pasta special. The linguine with bolonaise was good, so was the penne pasta, the spinach ravioli was too spinachy. The pasta was readily available. \nThe liver was done just right, did not care for the polenta. Would have preferred mashed potatoes. The onions could have been cooked more. I prefer onions almost burnt. \nOur waiter Guilermo was attentive but was also overheated due to the room temperature. \nOverall it was a good experience, not too expensive. Nice atmosphere.

Our family was at Becco on Christmas Eve day for a late lunch. Our server was interested in his own agenda as opposed to selling us on the specials and forgetting our wine order. When we asked for more bread, the young bus boy said he had to clean the table first, then he would get the bread refill-restaurant was 75% empty? We have dined at Becco for several years. The food is always consistent, this was just an odd day for service. We had our server go on 'break' and had 2 servers for the remainder of our meal. Just an odd dining experience for service.

We booked with Open Table for Becco's at the earliest possible date for a 26 December reservation, i.e., we booked the first day of December. We wrote on the on-line reservation form, and when Becco's called to confirm our Reservation on Dec. 23rd, told the person who called that it was our 52nd Anniversary, that we had always asked for and received Table 16 (Table for 2, max 3, in front of the Bookcase). Both times, we were told, 'Not a Problem'. Well, this past Dec. 26, two nights ago, Table 16 was not even a possibility, nor was our request even recorded. We asked if we could wait at the Bar until the patrons at Table 16 left...which was 10 minutes after we were seated....at another tiny table, up against the wall near the Bar. We were told that we'd lose our Reservation if we wanted to wait at the Bar. The seat we were assigned was tiny, it was terribly noisy, and the waiters and exiting patrons kept hitting our chairs with their coats, etc., ...not a very memorable 52nd wedding anniversary environment at all. The food, was consistent, and exceptional. We are caused by this experience as to whether or not to book our 53rd at Becco's. This is unfortunate because for 51 years, Becco's has been our first choice. For the record, I am Italian, my first language is Italian, and I always send my doctoral colleagues to Becco's as well as to Lydia's other restaurants. Thanks for asking for a review. I hope it is helpful.

We dine at Becco regularly for pre-theater. Each time lately, we have been more and more disappointed. The attention to detail is no longer there. Our server was hard to find when we needed him. I ordered a short rib special which was just one big lump of fat. We told the waiter when he finally appeared and he just said sorry. Located in the the theatre district, this restaurant is all about convenience when going to see a show nearby. Upon arrival we are always seated promptly and asked what time our show is.\nThe food is good. Known for their fresh pasta specials, this is their best and only pre fixe pre theatre deal. This place is typically crowded as most, if not all of their diners are in and out quickly as they need to make it to their theatre on time. Therefore, food is very fresh due to the fast turnover.

How was Becco? I don't mind telling you, it was awful. Applebee's, Olive Garden? I struggle for the appropriate comparison. God awful is truly the appropriate comparison. The server was a patronizing Dennys server at 2am dealing with drunks. But it was 6:30 and we weren't drunk (unfortunately). Service like that is expected (and rightly invited) when you're underage drinking in a rural small town. It's baffling as a reasonable adult in New York. Buddy, I just want dinner. The massive platters of prefab pasta that make their way around the dining room is disturbing and unappetizing. In no small part because the harried platter people slap pasta on plates like it's an all you can eat buffet at kings table. Admittedly, I have little experience with the restaurants to which I'm comparing this but that's for a reason. They're awful and so was this. Do yourself a favor and unless you're a parent desperate for something other than Chuck E. Cheese, steer clear, way clear, of this place. If you are a parent and want a change from soggy chains that cater to rambunctious kids, the food's slightly better and the kids will be right at home. In the interest of fairness (though I can't say the experience was at all fair to us), my leftovers (spare rib special), enjoyed outside the horrible service, deafening cafeteria noise level and similarly unpleasant lighting, weren't bad. The stinky flounder and mass produced pasta? Not so much.

On this trip I had the Pork and added the Pasta for $9 more. The Pork was fantastic, the pasta trio add on was delicious as well. To my surprise and delight they expanded the restaurant and we were in part of the new addition. I was so excited to bring my boyfriend here, I had dined here once before with a group of girlfriends. As I left the restaurant, I was embarrassed to have brought him here. \n\nThe food was wonderful, but our service was HORRIBLE!! The table next to us was smart & became friends with a manager and was able to get some type of attention. Our waitress, I believe her name was Molly, had the worst attitude and was no where to be found but we saw all the other tables around us having a great experience with their server. She didn't take our dinner order and when we finally got her attention, she was obviously annoyed that we were bothering her. Instead of asking us what we would like to eat, she said 'What do you want?' We waited forever for our salads, the table next to us was almost done with their entrees when it finally came. And then she gave us plates for pasta, we did not order the pasta & had to remind her of our entrees. \n\nShe needs to find a new career, preferably in a field where she doesn't work with people. \nAs a former server in a busy restaurant, I understand when you get in the weeds or are just having a bad day but you never give attitude to your customers. Molly needs to understand that she represents the restaurant and she is a poor representation of Becco. Shame on her.

We were lucky enough to ask for, and get, a small table upstairs on the 'zippered in' balcony which was actually quite delightful. The restaurant was sweltering and loud, and the balcony 'windows' were unzipped just enough to let some nice air in plus it was far less noisy. I'm not to sure we'd have the same kind of review if we would have had to sit inside as it was almost intolerable passing through to get in and out. With that said, the best food, the best service, the best garlic bread, the 'pasta trio special' is a great idea, extremely fair value wine list with exceptional wines to be had. Was the nicest meal we've had on any of our NYC Broadway show spring breaks, and we go almost every year.

My Mother and I were in town to experience Christmas in NYC. She is a big fan of Lidia Bastianich and I figured what better way to make the day even more special that to bring her to a Batali and Bastianich property. We arrived to the restaurant a half hour before our reservation and were greeted by a host. I told him we had a reservation for 3pm and wondered if we could be seated early. He told us that he could seat us but he would need our table by 4pm. Automatically, this makes you feel rushed and what a way to greet a guest! We get seated and are greeted by our waiter. The atmosphere was cramped and as we were seated, our coats and bags brushed aganist other tables(small space). We had a small table in the corner and were greeted by a waiter. He took our beverage order and delivered the specials. Some fresh bread, breadsticks, olives and spread were brought out after order was placed. We ordered appetizers, 1 entree and the trio of pasta that is their specialty. As the pasta was delivered by 3 different chefs 'tableside', one of the pastas was served and the sauce was splattered on my shirt. The first pasta, cocoa pumpkin pasta was very tasty probably the only thing that I enjoyed. The pasta primavera and the shrimp penne vodka were terrible. The vodka sauce was so watered down-no sauce stuck to the pasta and the primavera had no real flavor. After the entree was served, another waiter came over and said our original waiter got moved upstairs and he would be taking over. No problem. Then, a 3rd waiter came over to take our dessert order and bring us the final bill. I finished the meal with the Panna Cotta and it was decent, but not great! I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience and expected a whole lot more since this was a B&B property. I was looking for positives but in all, there weren't many. Not one thing stood out: customer service, food, atmosphere...NOTHING. I would not return.

Went here with my daughter for our annual Christmas trip to NYC to see a show/shop. The table was very small we sat very close to other diners on both sides of us. The food was good although the lasagna dish I was served wasn't very hot and that's basically all I received, my entree..no salad, soup, etc. nor were we offered more bread. Nice place but I've been to better restaurants.

Becco is a family favorite. Food is consistently good, service can be a little slow sometimes when it's crowded. Best values are the all you can eat Symphonia de Pasta which consists of three different pastas and includes either a Caesar salad or Antipasto appetizer. Wines start at $29 a bottle. \nFour of us dined during this Christmas season, our annual trip to see the trees and holiday windows. A special treat was seeing Lidia Bastianich visit each table and chat with the diners. She was gracious enough to take some photos with us! \nI also dine at Becco during the year for pre-theater lunch. Everyone really enjoys it here.\nAsk for a table on the first floor in the back, under the skylight. Our favorite!

Not only was I placed upstairs in a back room with terrible lighting and bad ambiance, but also the service was terrible. The waiter was slow and had to be asked twice for everything. When the food ultimately arrived it was not up to expectations. My veal parmigiana was delicious; however, my girlfriend's 'special' - the pasts trio - was not good. I don't I think I will ever go back to Becco.

We tried their signature 3 pasta special. All the offerings were bland and the servers (not our waitress) were hurried in their service and practically threw the food on our plates. Made us feel like we were being rushed to get through dinner. Waitress took our order and then disappeared unless we initiated contact, when we could get her attention. \nTables were cramped, with outer chairs at adjacent tables back to back with barely enough room to sit down. To their credit, the restaurant was packed. But the end result was no room at your table, very noisy, and poor service.

checked reviews before we went so I was expecting a mixed bag and its just that...too small for the number of people they try to squeeze in there, noisy, service is spread too thin, had to ask for same item 4 times; food was average and given Lidia's notoriety I was expecting food to be above grade but then she wasn't cooking and would you believe they didn't have any more spaghetti at 7:45 pm....wine selections are private label of the owner so who knows what we were really drinking...we had a much better glass of wine at the rainbow grille before going to this restaurant even if more pricier. I saw people being served their entrée and there were no sides with it, so you ordered a steak or osso bucco that is all that was on the plate...we opted for appetizers given portions we saw at other tables...2 out of the 4 were decent but the other 2 \nhad no flavor....dessert trio was the best part. No real area to wait for your name to be called for table, and the bar...is ridiculously small...no seating and 4 people are standing at the the narrow bar, the wait staff and other customers have a hard time navigating that front house area....Joe Allen's is better. Message to Open Table, you need to re-think the choices of descriptors for noise level ...energetic is not noisy....be realistic is descriptors and at least add an 'other' or 'not at all'

My wife and I visited Becco before our show at Madison Square Garden. Becco is located in the theater district and like many nearby restaurants the tables are close together and it can get a little loud. But this place is worth the visit. The food is very good. My wife and I each had an appetizer and then we split the grilled fish (branzino) main course. The appetizers and the fish were very good. A couple of expressos and 2 Strega (liqueur) to round out a very nice meal. And we were out in plenty of time to get to our show. Gluten free was not a problem.

The food at Becco was, as always, excellent. I had what must be the best veal chop I've ever had. All the rest of the meals were beyond reproach. However, the table we were seated at was not at the doorway, it was IN the doorway. It was a cold night and the constant opening of the door and the severe draft made it very difficult if not impossible to fully enjoy the meal. We complained but to no avail. A table like this should never be in use. And while I have been to Becco many times and love the food, unless they can guarantee that I will not be placed in such an appalling table, I will never return.

My dining companion and I were really looking forward to dining at one of the Bastianich family restaurants. It was my dining companion's first time to New York. We made an evening of it - pre-theatre supper with Becco, then an off-Broadway show. The restaurant itself was a cozy experience - space was tight but everyone was in good spirits and made it work. Front of the house was gracious and efficient.\n\nMy friend and I ordered drinks then both ordered the daily pasta tasting we kept reading about. Service pretty much went downhill from there.\n\nFrom the beginning table service was very inconsistent. Our waiter seemed to be having an off day and really acted like he couldn't be bothered with us. Passive aggressive and self loathing would best sum up his attitude. We know this because of how the people around us were treated by other waiters. The tables next to us heard about the specials and seasonal dishes for the day. We did not. The tables next to us were checked on throughout their meals. We were not. Waiters anticipated the needs and gauged the dining experiences of the people around us. No clue where our waiter went.\n\nI would have liked another glass of wine. I had to ask for red pepper flakes (3) times. I would have liked more of a particular pasta dish, after I asked for the third time I gave up. We would have liked dessert and espresso to finish the meal but we were completely ignored, then it was too late because we had to leave for the theatre. Even the waiter serving the table next to us noticed how we were neglected and tried picking up the slack of our non-existent waiter. I was thoroughly unimpressed and regretted very much bringing my friend to dine here. I lived in New York for 12 years and this by far was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever experienced. I will not come back, nor will I ever recommend this place to anyone.

This is the best restaurant on 'Restaurant Row' (46th street) in NYC. While many of the restaurants were half empty Becco's was packed. Could barely get in and out of the place. Even though they were extremely crowded, we were seated within five minutes of our reservation time. Almost any bottle of wine on their extensive wine list is just $29.00. Second, the service was inconsistent. Although we were seated and greeted immediately, there were major lulls in service where we waited with empty plates for some time. The greeter was efficient and showed us to our table quickly, even though the restaurant was packed. The wait staff was accommodating, offering us wine and asking questions about the menu. All went well until the food was served. We chose the lunch special, a three pasta combination. We had osso buco and the striped bass special for our entrees. Both were delicious. The chocolate mousse cake is our favorite dessert. The wines are a good value.\n\nHowever, three separate issues seriously detracted from our enjoyment of the evening. First, the heating system was broken and we were freezing for much of our meal because cold air was blasting from the vents. Second, we were seated near a door which staff was using to enter and exit the restaurant very noisily. Third, we were seated next to a really obnoxious party of four who argued in loud voices, repeatedly using offensive and racist language. If you want a real home cooked simple italian meal then Becco is for you. Remember, Lydia is a very good home cook and her son Joseph is a business man. This is not Iron Chef territory. You need to go his partner's (Mario B.) places for that kind of food. This place has a reputation of turning over tables quickly. However, I came here to assist them in that manner prior to my show and they could not do it. We ordered upon sitting with 2 entrees: pasta trio and the pork chop. My wife received her cocktail and after my many repeated stern requests, I finally got my diet coke 45 minutes later, i.e., the soda fountain was not working. What kind of lame excuse is that? Was there a reason I was not informed of the situation 45 minutes earlier? Clearly, you get better service if you order a bottle of wine as the servers are more attentive, which is how Restaurant Man trains his staff. How repulsive is that. It is reflected in the fact that tables next to ours were promptly served their meals before us even though we had arrived 15 minutes earlier. The pasta trio was ok with 1 out of 3 actually tasting very good. The pork chop was over done and should not be cut up for me. The servers are trained very well in making excuses, but they need to learn to control their emotions better and do not give me a lecture about food cooking times. I do not care. In a services industry, just provide quality service as oppose to lip service. What good is it for management to ask my wife if she wanted another round of pasta without getting the pasta boys to actually come to the table. By the way, she never did get more pasta. The pasta boys do not like to go to tight quarter tables and usually just stick to the larger tables. What a joke. I asked for my bill 3x before getting it. I was practically pushing myself out the door to make my show on time but was unsuccessful. This is an extremely busy and loud place. The servers need to move faster especially if someone is in a hurry.

Overall very good. We went on a Friday so very crowded, got shoehorned into a packed bar to wait, and table was not ready until 1/2 hour after our reservation. But this is normal for a good restaurant in the city on a Friday.\n\nIts worth the wait, once seated the food and service were fabulous. \n\nThis was my second visit, enjoyed both. Once seated its cozy, wouldn't say romantic as the noise level is high.

We absolutely love Becco's. We travel to NYC a couple of times a year from Philadelphia to go to the theatre, and it's our favorite pre-theatre restaurant. Abuzz with diners and bar patrons, yes the tables are close and it is a big noisy, but it is pure New York vibe for us. The food quality is tops, and the $29/bottle of wine list is extensive. So close to the theatre district and Times Square. We keep threatening to try someplace new, but when it comes down to it, we don't want to give up our semi-annual Becco experience.

Had eaten there many times before, but this time one of the pastas in the luncheon special was overcooked, in the second dish the pasta strands were so hard they could not be cut, and the turkey tortellini was...what can I say? Dark turkey meat is not a good choice for tortellini. It seemed more like a fast food factory than a fine dining experience. As this is a favorite place with friends we will still go there, but not as a first choice.

This was our first experience at Becco, and overall, extremely happy. We had a reservation, arrived on time and were seated immediately at what seemed to be the last table in the room. The food was beyond every expectation and was prepared, and presented beautifully. The unfortunate thing for us is that we were seated less than 3 feet from where dirty dishes were collected and thrown into a plastic tubs and carted away every couple of minutes. It certainly took away from any ambience that might have been..... I know now, where NOT to sit next time. I would return in a heartbeat - The food was exceptional.

Unfortunately the Board of Health decided to arrive as we did so service was slower than usual as all food had to be checked before leaving the kitchen. didn't get our bread basket and the trio of pastas was slow in service and returning should anyone want more. (and of course you do because the food is beyond compare.) That said- our waiter, Saul, was gracious, professional, and attentive as could be in light of the circumstances. Dined at Becco's several times and previous experiences have always been very good. This was a bit different in that the restaurant was absolutely jamming and it felt somewhat like having dinner in a phonebooth. We ate in the room to the left of the front door and at a table behind the bar and the bar stools so everytime someone walked by, which was just about constant, my wife was always bumped into - not exactly the most pleasant eating conditions.\n\nI will return to Becco's, just not on a Saturday evening during the Christmas Holiday season when they are trying to fit as many people in the restaurant as humanly possible.

It was a great night all around. Becco is exactly as I remembered--good food, excellent service, and all at an extremely reasonable price. My husband had the traditional all you can eat pasta and I had the Osso Bucco. We both were smiling. Also, we ordered a bottle of Sicilian wine with which we were totally unfamiliar and it was EXCELLENT--again, particularly, for the price. Also, a special shout out to the service. I marvel at how well the waiters handled the very large number of diners and, yes, the pasta kept coming around for extra servings all night long. We never had to ask. We will be back soon.

Becco is one of the great finds in NYC. It has a lively atmosphere, great and friendly service, and some of the most delicious food that can be found anywhere! Our dinner for the the 2 of us the other night (7:15 pm) included salmon with spaghetti squash and beets, and 3 unlimited freshly made pastas of the day. Both meals came with a flavorful Caesar salad, and included the extra anchovies we requested. The salmon was cooked as requested - medium rare and it was delicious. The 3 pastas were wonderful, including a spaghetti in a tomato herb sauce, mushroom ravioli (I had seconds), and a penne bolognese. The pastas came with a big bowl of fresh parmesan on the side which I used liberally on my pastas. The $29 bottle of wines list is a bargain and we enjoyed a tasty Italian white Falanghina. Also I ordered Becco's Old Fashioned cocktail for $13 which is a real bargain. The atmosphere is energetic in the front room where we sat. We were originally brought to a table in the room toward the rear but it was kind of cramped - our original request to be sat in another room in the back with the skylight could not be met since there was a private event there. Once we requested and were seated in the front room, the people watching was fun, with streams of couples and other groups pouring into the restaurant. And the service was great, including our server Liane, the wine steward, and the guys who brought the pastas in big pans right to our table. All in all it was a great night!

I've eaten at Becco many times and it is usually great for pre-theater dinner. This night, the Saturday following Thanksgiving, was not its best moment. The place seems to have gotten slammed between post matinee dinner and pre-evening theater dinner crowds. They were not able to seat us on time for our 6:15 reservation and there was virtually no room to stand anywhere in the bar or front area. It was somewhat chaotic! When they did finally seat us, it was a table crammed in at the front, near the door, and hanging on the wall, directly over one of the two chairs, was a large Christmas wreath. Not only was it constantly hitting my friend's head, it was dropping needles onto his sweater and his place settings. It was a completely unusable table. The hostess was overwhelmed and did nothing, but after complaining to our waiter, a manager came by and agreed to re-seat us but it took almost 20 minutes to get another table. By the time we got relocated, ordered dinner, and got served (and they were aware of our curtain time), we had only about 15 minutes to eat getting to the theater for an 8 PM curtain. It was a pricey dinner to be so rushed. Although they did finally move us to a usable table, a free glass of wine would have been in order. As I said, I've been here many times before and always had a good experience but this time they were way off their game.

So excited to visit but sadly disappointed. It was so loud, uncomfortably so. Ppl next to us were so irritated they didn't finish their glasses of wine, much less their meal. Pasta was too al dente, almost crispy. Beautiful restaurant and I love Lidia but will visit elsewhere next time.

2:45 lunch, first was offered table close to bar on high traffic aisle, next, another traffic location when there were more desirable tables available and few diners. Settled at corner in rear. All agreed that food was very good. Waiter was impatient, it was difficult to get information from him. Wine was good and good value.

Great food and value. The $29 a bottle wine list was very good. The food is excellent. The restaurant is very busy and noisy.

Went for a meal for 5 at 2PM and was pleasantly surprised that it was not crowded (the reviews were uniform on that) and that the wait staff took their time with us. We had a great meal, and good wine, without the NYC 'huff'. Would recommend late lunch dining for sure.\n\nThe food was quite good, and the authenticity of the menu was as promised: Italian.

Not the same as Felidia, but a great value for pre show dining. We had the duck (special) and when the waiter said 'we recommend rare', take their advice. We changed it to med-rare. Bad move on our part. The flavor was terrific, but we ruined the texture by going against the experts. Many really good wines on the $29 list which is something of a miracle in Manhatten.

The food was good, but nothing special. The facility was clearly two restaurants joined together at the front door. It was very disjointed. The dining area that we ate in was extremely hot. We had a pre-theater reservation. Both the person who checked us in and our waiter asked about our theater start time, but service between the salad course and the main course was very, very slow. When I inquired if we had time for dessert the only answer that I received was 'its up to you.' When I clarified that I was inquiring about the time our waiter thought it would take for dessert to arrive if we ordered it at that time, the answer was ' its up to you.' Needless to say we skipped dessert, which was not a tragedy.

This block on 46th Street, as most everybody knows, is well-located for pre- or post-theater dining. Becco does a good job at getting it right - the staff knows your timing restraints and it all works smoothly. When you request, your bill arrives and is dealt with promptly. Prices are totally reasonable and while we savored our veal we noticed that many diners were taking advantage of the very inexpensive ($23.50) pasta and salad special. It's crowded, it's filled with tourists (might be fun to go at 8:00 and see a different crowd), yada yada, but every theatergoer is really a tourist so don't be a snob, go and enjoy the veal Milanese and drink a peach martini.

Loved every minute of it. We had a great table over looking the street which was exciting to watch the traffic trying to get to the theater. The wine price were unbelievable and the quality was very good. The three pasta special including appetizer was a perfect blend of Italian delicacies and the fresh pasta was light and delicious. We truly enjoyed ourselves and got out in plenty of time to catch our show.

Becco is a great choice for dining in the theater district. The service is outstanding and efficient. One of the popular menu choise is the all you can eat of three type pastas. The ravioli is the best choice so far. I totally enjoyed the halibut with arugula and tomato, it was cooked to perfection. There is a one price set up for a bottle of wine with many choices - good pricing for a group. The appetizer of prosciutto with cheese was also memorable. \n\nNothing fancy just great food before a show.

I went for dinner before theater. With a reservation, I had to wait a few minutes anyway. Dining alone, I was seated at the back. Many people waiting for tables were in the aisles, bunched at the front door, and some outside. A man at the next table (who probably shouldn't have come there), was loudly complaining about the group of people crowded in the aisle behind him as they waited for their table. I think they overbook and crowd too many table together for the space they have. It's kind of like an assembly line during the peak, pre-theater period when the restaurant can make most money.\nI had the liver with onions, which came with a small but very good Ceasar salad. The main dish was good. The service was OK, too. If you're looking to have a quick, pretty tasty pre-theater dinner, this place is OK. But be prepared to put up with a lot of noise and pushing.

Fabulous as always. Bolognese is better with fettuccini. Ravioli was to dye for as was spaghetti. Wine was a real deal for $29. And delicious. Been to all of Lydia's restaurants except Kansas City and this is still my favorite, delPosto is close.

The food was extremely good. They asked immediately if we were going to the theatre and told us we would be finished in plenty of time. True.\nOnly complaint was that the pasta served on the 'special of the evening' was just warm. Restaurant was quite noisy, but expected. \nAll around great food and convenient to theatre (walking distance).

A few friends recommended Becco post or pre-show. For convenience this was a great pic. The food was definitely good (Not a lot of straight pasta options though) good wine list and service. I found it a wee bit crowded for my taste. My elbow was literally resting on the back of the chair of the table next to ours. They definitely cram them in. But overall it was a good meal/ dining experience. They definitely were on the ball with seating and getting people in and out on time. The service was very good. Not the best meal I ever had but definitely good for broadway. I would recommend pre or post theater.

First time in New York and the restaurant was recommended. Total disappointment in the food. Absolutely no taste for some pretty simple pasta dishes. Tables are so close together you are better to plan to just eat your romantic dinner with strangers practically sitting two inches from you.\n\nWill not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

We found that both our food and selection of wine were delicious and well priced. Highly recommend reservations, it was packed on a Thursday night. It was also extremely warm in the restaurant, however it was unseasonably warm outside as well. Overall will definitely be back and recommend to friends!
