Love the food. BUT Very noisy at night for dinner. They sat us next to the broiler ovens in the back and we had to move, it was stifling hot. Then we moved closer to the front of the restaurant and the ac blowers were directed down on the seats against the wall - then I was freezing. The table next to us also complained they were cold. Honestly the restaurant is not comfortable but the food is so good I still go there. Better to go for lunch and when they are not crowded. The reception staff seems very inexperienced to handle the crowd at night. It's a disappointing experience overall because the restaurant is not very well run.

Had a 12:15 reservation. Had to wait 20 minutes. Restaurant was packed. Started with the BLT Bloody Mary. Good and spicy. It was a meal unto itself. Shared beignets for the table. They were warm, light and fluffy and delicious. I had the egg sandwich. Much better than your everyday egg sandwich. Sunny side up egg was cooked perfectly. The jalapeño slaw was a nice addition to the sandwich. We were celebrating a birthday, so they brought us a complimentary slice of cake with a candle. It was a nice touch. The servers were attentive and helpful with menu selections. I'll be back.

Over many years I loved Cookshop and the meals were wholesome, filling, and great tasting. However, this time I ordered a seafood main for about $27 and it was the weakest little plate I have seen with a a few small shells, a couple of shrimp and a small piece of fish over some broth with corn. I literally had to go to a Chipotle an hour later to eat again. Not sure I will be back.

We like this restaurant and the food is generally excellent. This time there were a few problems. We went on Valentine's Day only because we had nearby theater tickets. I called ahead and they assured me they would have the regular menu in addition to the Valentine's menu, but they did not. The menu was very different although there was overlap with the usual menu. Many less expensive options were missing. Despite my specific request, and a return, the chef was apparently unable to cook my entree to the specified doneness. I gave-up. We noticed, a little late, that we had not been brought bread and when we inquired were told that it had not been ready when we ordered, so apologies. That made little sense, since it was brought to other tables. We ordered the stuffed eggs with dill and got a tasting plate with no dill sight. We liked it, but this another example of the kitchen being at fault. The server was polite and solicitous but not really very effective. I would chalk this up to the day, except we arrived early when the restaurant was not yet busy, and in fact, the restaurant was no busier than on an average weekend night.

The level of service is what stood out from my experience. Everyone from the hostess to the servers to the bussers were so friendly and courteous. I felt very welcome there. On the downside, even though I've lived in Manhattan for years now, I can't get used to the brunch-flation. $18 for two slices of french toast? $8 for a side of sausage or bacon? Perhaps I should stick to diners. I would, however, probably recommend to my less price-sensitive, foodie friends.

The food was served speedily and absolutely delicious. We had ordered the burrata, huevos rancheros, and egg sandwich. All of which were delicious (although I can't speak entirely for the egg sandwich which had sausage that I didn't try, being vegetarian). Each dish was a substantial portion and well balanced. I had heard from friends that this was an 'awesome' restaurant. I went with two friends last weekend and was greatly disappointed. I ordered the steak with potatoes gratin. The potatoes were so salty they were inedible. The steak didn't taste at all like steak but like some other meat. My friends agreed with my feeling about the steak and thought their meals were ok but nothing more than average. A disappointment.

Is the chef Spanish? The reason I ask is because when I travel in Spain I find the food too sweet. I had the chicken. It was well prepared but the sauce was too sweet for me. I'm glad I tried the restaurant but won't be returning.

Waiter was nice but inattentive. It was a very busy Sat morning. We told the waiter that we were in a hurry but it really didn't seem to make much of a difference. We were halfway through our entrée before the waiter checked in on us. I'm partly to blame because we were in a rush. That said, I've had better service, in a hurry or not. Food this time was OK but my bad for taking the waiter's suggestion on the pastrami (inartful). Hash browns were a tasteless, greasy mashup. Overall food temp a was lukewarm (surprising for a table 'in a rush'). This visit definitely didn't match my first (favorable) experience there.

Thanksgiving evening 1 member of my party was very late and they seated us w/out having to wait for everyone to arrive. Highly unusual for NYC restaurants. For dinner I had the fluke. While it a bit of a spicy kick, the fish was not overwelmed by the spices. I loved the vegetables for the table, especially the trio of sweet potatoes and the apples and brussels sprouts ( I hate Brussels sprouts!) Everyone in my party loved their desserts. The brussel sprouts were very tasty for a small bite. I wasn't terribly impressed by my dinner (cod - a bit overcooked and bland, I thought). Wonderful evening out with good friends who just had their second child and deserved a laughter filled night. The sommelier Richard did an amazing job of selecting some unique, reasonably priced wines that we hadn't tried before. Overall excellent experience that I highly recommend.

Our first visit to Cookshop. Service is very prompt and friendly. The menu is at once limited yet plentiful in terms of options...snacks and appetizers, entrees of fish, foul, meat, and at least three robust vegetarian plates. The swordfish ceviche swam in just a bit too much of the spicey green sauce...the sauce is delicious but the swordfish was a bit lost. The grilled wagyu steak skewers with salsa verde were rapturous...perfectly cooked and spiced. My entrée of duck breast was slightly past medium but not overdone or dry, the sauce of quince, celery and mint a wonderful accompaniment, the black lentils were properly firm. My wife's roasted cod was expertly cooked so the fish stayed intact without being dry or tough, and the slight hint of citrus in the sauce was spot on. The ricotta cannelloni of bartlett pear-ricotta filling, pecorino,\nbrown butter, fried sage is amazing but as an entrée, a bit too much sweetness. They offer it in an appetizer portion which is a better bet. Wines by the glass are very well selected, we had glasses of albarino to start, then Crozes Hermitage with entrees. Everything harmonized. Dessert of sweet potato pie is, in a word, sick! One to share three ways was not nearly sufficient! Our reservation was early, 5:30, and we did dawdle a bit at the beginning before getting our orders in, so I was just a little off-put in feeling a bit rushed toward the end. But judging from how we had to fight our way out the door past hordes of people waiting, I could understand. This place is hot and the reputation is deserved. We'll be back.

Have been here a few times before, including a lovely Thanksgiving meal but found the restaurant disappointing with far too few choices. Sat looking at menu and asking, 'what else?'The porgie fish dish had minced vegetables that were indistinguishable due to seasoning. Beer selection weak. Peanut butter and jelly sundae was interesting and helped to save an otherwise lackluster presentation.

Happened to be in the neighborhood and saw the restaurant, which I had heard about but not experienced. Decided to try it and was not disappointed! Food was creative and very tasty, though menu is a bit short. Ambiance was hip and upbeat; service very adequate. All in all, I would recommend for those who are somewhat adventurous and enjoy culinary originality and uniqueness. Not your 'run of the mill' restaurant. Quite fun!!

We really enjoyed our meal and family get-together at Cookshop. The noise level was a bit high which is truly my only complaint. It was a lot of fun and delicious.

This was the second time I've been to Cookshop. It has a cozy, casual ambiance and friendly, helpful staff, which make it a real gem-- and key reasons why I returned. The menu is inventive, with seasonal flavors-- and the menu changes frequently-- another reason I was really looking forward to coming back. On my most recent visit, however, both my and my date's dishes seemed over-salted and over-balsamic'ed, which compromised all of cool seasonal flavors. Perhaps just an off night for the dishes we selected (roasted cod and house cured beef bacon salad), but a little disappointing after my first experience was so WOW.

Overall a delightful experience. But we can quibble. The cod was in a delicious but too salty broth. The chicken skin, perhaps intentionally, was not crisp. \n\nThe door. The door in the middle of the room is simply a bad idea. And seating us next to it or anywhere near it, an even worse idea. \n\nThe waiter was terrific. But why was a second waiter acting as if he was our primary waiter?

A perfect everyday lunch or brunch choice. The food is fresh and delicious. The menu changes frequently keeping things interesting. Service although friendly is a bit slow. I would struggle to make this a dinner choice despite the races on food because the chairs are uncomfortable and the decor is a bit cold and too cafe like for my taste.

The food was consistently excellent, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Cookshop any time you find yourself in Chelsea and want some terrific food in a comfortable casual setting. One cavil only -- it's really loud; but then again, it's always packed, so I guess it's an occupational hazard. Oh, and be sure to make a reservation!

We often take out of town guests here. Try to sit in the back where it is more quiet and you can actually have a conversation. The front can be 'energetic'. The menu changes with the seasons, but no matter the season, the food is quite good here. Some of our favorite appetizers are the steak tartar, caesar salad, wagu steak and duck wings (only on menu occasionally). The poultry is always good, as are the diver scallops. Sitting at the bar is also a fun option.

I was recommended to try Cookshop while visiting NYC with my mom for her birthday. The food was great - very well displayed and yummy. The only negative thing about our experience was our server. She was VERY unenthusiastic which really didn't sit well with me! She didn't even introduce herself, ask if it was our first time there, ask where we're from, tell us the specials - none of that! It was just extremely dry. Which was odd seeing that the hostesses were so nice! We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and they were super nice and attentive to get us a seat as soon as possible. Phenomenal Food, Drinks & Service!!!\nWe met some friend's here for an absolutely fantastic meal on their patio. The food is delicious with really interesting & amazing combinations of flavors....we also LOVED the drinks. First, the Bartender made some great cocktails before we headed to our table, and then at dinner we could not get enough of the Wine. It was Delicious the Sommelier Richard was awesome. Very Friendly, low key, incredibly knowledgeable, and he recommended the Pied e Terre bottle (We ended up drinking 2 full bottles for the table it was SO GOOD). \nThe only thing I didn't like was the requirement that you're entire party be present before they seat you at your table...I don't think it's a great idea when you have a large restaurant with plenty of seating...I do understand when it's a much smaller venue, so tables are hard to come by...but at Cookshop this wasn't the case. They had plenty of seating available. \n\nWe will definitely be back...and I highly recommend it!!!!

I loved my meal here a couple of weeks ago. The wine director was warm, confident and very knowledgeable...and hands-off after we selected something he recommended based on each of our preferences. I've been going to Cookshop for years and the last few times I went the food has been downright gross. The last time I went for lunch with a friend - I had the steak and she had the seafood stew. My steak was extremely chewy and it had some sort of smokey tasting oil all over it that was really unpleasant. My friend had the seafood stew and she said the seafood tasted rotten and the broth had zero flavor. Neither of us really touched our meals but our server noticed nothing and just casually took everything away and gave us the bill. We were in a rush so we didn't want to explain the situation and he was nice enough so we just paid and left. I will not be going back to Cookshop though.

We arrived before dinner service. It was a beautiful evening, so we requested outdoor seating. We sat with drinks for a bit and when the time came we ordered dinner.\nWe had oysters and a shaved asparagus salad. Both were perfect. Our entrees were duck breast over lentils, vegetable Meze , and a seafood stew. Again, all were perfectly spiced and the ingredients delicious.\nAlthough the waitstaff seemed to be pleasant and attentive , the food was slow in coming and requests for bread and ice took awhile. \nOn the upside, we were not rushed to leave, and the food made up for the wait. \nWould definitely return though, (food was that good)in hopes that it would be a seamless experience.

The service and ambiance have always been great at Cookshop. However the food has taken a turn for the worst. The menu is just 'okay' and the food was nothing to get excited over. Plenty of other places in Manhattan with interesting menus. But for a nice non-crazy evening with some friends - this is an okay option.

We took our daughter out for a birthday brunch. We had a 10:15 reservation for 5, but our daughter arrived 25 minutes late. In spite of that, they were able to sit us right away. The wait staff was very friendly and quick. Our drinks, appetizer, entree, and dessert were served relatively quickly. We had hue is rancheros, the French toast, and breakfast sandwich as our main meal and they were all delicious! The noise level was pretty high so I felt like we were yelling at each other. The overall experience, however, was great and so we will return!

Celebration of 2 birthdays.. Great place to gather to drink, eat and laugh.. Reservation was for 3 and ended up being 4 of us. No issue to seat us right on time and w an increase of 1 person. Place is crazy crowded so be sure to make a reservation! A delight in every way.. Server happened to see my friend open her bday card. She brought a cupcake with a candle at no request from us, just being astute on her part. We were impressed!

Our server was by far the best part of our experience she was personable, and knowledgable on the food and wines. Our appetizers were great, perhaps the best beef tarttar I've had to date, I also throughly enjoyed the pork shank. My boyfriend however ordered the duck- he ordered it medium rare as recommended, and it came out more medium to medium well. I wish I could remember our servers name, she was awesome and even though he had already eaten a few pieces of duck, she replaced his meal with a properly cooked to tempature meal. Kevin being a chef was savy to the fact that the duck was likely over cooked initially on purpose due to the fact that the duck itself was aged, and not very good... Less red and more browned. He still ate the entree and still agreed the appetizers were great- just unfortuniate about his main dish, on his birthday no less.

Let me start by saying, I rarely write less than positive reviews.\n\nI came here with a friend who had just flown in from London after reading great reviews. We arrived about 10 minutes early and got a drink at the bar. The bartenders were awesome and friendly.\n\nIt was another thing with our server, however. My friend was jetlagged and therefore not very hungry. We ordered three substantial appetizers to share and said we might add other items if still hungry. \n\nThroughout the meal, the server asked us, 'How are your APPETIZERS?' about two or three times. When it was clear we were finished with the appetizers, he then asked, 'Have you decided on dinner?' While we said no, throughout dinner, we felt unduly pressured to order more food. Especially from a restaurant that charges a premium on prices, we left with a bad taste in our mouth.

My son was sweating and his cheeks were getting red. I explained to the hostess our situation, that our companions were 10 blocks away, showed her my red faced sweating boy and asked if we could be seated so he could sit and get some water. Cookshop is real gem. Food was excellent and the kitchen was reasonably flexible with a small set of requests to deal with an allergy. At this particular night they were overusing radishes - didn't know one could be so inventive with them- but otherwise everything was very tasty and beautifully done. Space is warm, open and Inviting. Menu was simple, clean, and varied. Tne Great Humor dessert was exceptionally fun.

Went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday, it was one of the best parts of my weekend because I had to work. The food was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The cocktails were also delicious. Our server was very attentive. She brought me a cupcake with a candle for my birthday.... it wasn't ordered. Thank you for making it special. When in Chelsea, make a reservation and come here. You wont be disappointed.

The food was rather good. We had the deviled egg sampler, burrata appetizer, and the crudite salad. You can skip the crudite, its just a bunch of raw vegetables on ice (the server warned us as much, not his fault at all). On that topic, the server was quite good and attentive, recommending cocktails and such. Later, we shared the mixed grill entree, which was nice, and then shared a dessert which I can't recall. Everything was fine, if slightly above average, but then my fiance got sick on the ride home (we had to pull over). Her and I split everything during the meal (even earlier in the day) so I am concerned that a piece of silverware/plateware/glassware she was given was perhaps not cleaned properly. My aggravation stems from the fact that I have emailed the restaurant with this issue and have not heard a reply.

I would highly recommend Cookshop. The food was great as was the service and vibe. My sister and I met in midtown, walked down the high line and then dropped back to 10th avenue for lunch and it did not disappoint. It was a hot day and the restaurant was a bit warm, so we opted to sit outside under the canopies which cooled enough to complement very refreshing cocktails. Buratta appetizer was really good, but the smoked Trout appetizer was absolutely delicious. If we weren't very hungry, that might have been enough, but the menu was deeply explorable and no one rushed us out. We followed with Squash blossom frittata and grilled cheese sandwich and we were happy and full. And still made room for bites of dessert (blueberry crisp and a lovely and unusual panne cotta) and coffee. I would return any time in that area or exploring the high line.

We were in New York for 4 nights only and this was our favorite dinner of the week. The oysters were so fresh and tasty. We shared several plates - asparagus, duck and I can't remember what else, but it was all good. The waitress was so nice to us - spent time telling us where to go after dinner for a drink and really helped us with our wine selection. We liked the ambiance, busy and energetic, but not so loud we couldn't have good conversation. This was highly recommended by our AirBnB hostess and she was spot on. We will be back! I have always loved this restaurant— food and wine. Was deeply disappointed this time. Salmon— completely quotidien. Mine and my friend's dish were excessively oiled ... And the rosé, German — allegedly something the sommelier is very proud to have as a differentiator— was disappointing. A restaurant of Cookshop's quality (hopefully it will continue to be so, and my experience was an aberration..) should be serving a cotes de provence rosé, they're the best. The end!

My significant other and I went into NYC (from NJ) to do some furniture shopping in Chelsea. When we were looking for parking, I spotted this corner spot with lots of people eating outside. They all looked really happy. So when it was time for lunch, I suggested we try this place. We loved it! We both ordered what would have been ordinary meals any place else - fish tacos & grilled cheese. But they were not ordinary! They were delicious! So tasty! We don't go into NYC on a regular basis, so maybe the New Yorkers out there won't think this was such a big deal, but for us, finding a place that serves 'ordinary' dishes that are elevated to this quality and special-ness (is that a word?) is rather unusual. We loved it! Did I say that already? It's worth repeating.

We went to the Cookshop for a late lunch on a Monday- so thought we would receive better service than we did. Our waiter in particular was rude, condescending and oblivious. The food was quite nice (I loved the bread soup and my steak sandwich with frites & pickles was pretty good), but unfortunately the whole experience was marred by our server. Other servers were reasonably helpful when ours wasn't available. One offered to charge our phones at the front desk for us, and asked about our meals etc. Our own server went missing for large stretches of time, didn't ask if we wanted drink refills, interrupted us when he wanted us to order (just because you say 'excuse me' doesn't mean you can bark 'are you ready to order' at any time- he could have waited a few seconds for one of us to finish a sentence), and put us in a table right next to an open door (with a chilly breeze) without asking us, and once we were settled in the rest of my party didn't want to ask to move. He did help us by fixing our wobbly table when we asked though. \nOverall I was disappointed- the food was wonderful but I didn't really get to enjoy it.

It was a fine balance of busy New York restaurant, diverse crowd and well-oiled staff. We re-connected with Rich Luftig, the wine director, who we didn't recognize at first - it was one of those 'haven't we met somewhere before?' exchanges. Turns out we used to see Rich when he worked at Felidia years ago and always went back in large part due to his engaging style. This was our 2nd visit to this place in as many months and we live in upstate NY, not the city. The sommelier was particularly helpful to us and we enjoyed a 3 courses and never felt rushed even though they were bustling. The server was attentive and timed her check-ins well. Food was paced well with our conversation never felt like we were waiting for food or drink but also did not feel rushed. We all enjoyed our food and were even treated to a dessert on the house for our return visit ;-) The hostess Anne-Marie was extremely gracious in receiving our compliments at the end of the evening. The fish I tried this time had a nice sear on it, but was overcooked and hard. Way too much balsamic sauce over everything. Ridiculous amount of leafy greens that were an exaggerated tacky garnish. Tried a pasta dish as well. Cooked well, but way too much salt and butter. The buratta was also a bit of a letdown, missing all the soft yumminess which one would expect. Cookshop is a great foodie friendly restaurant with normal prices. \n\nWe had 3 apps from their small plates menu, pork pillette, Wagyu steak skewers, and the deviled eggs. All were excellent except the eggs that were meh. \n\nAs for entrees my partner had the tuna which he said was very good but not out of this world and I had the mixed grill which I thought was divine. The corn and hominy sauce it comes in I could have eaten with a spoon. \n\nFor dessert we had the Great Humor Treats which was SO good. Popcorn Sundae blew me away! \n\nOur drinks were ok. They were two of the specials. His was a fruity Gin drink that tasted good for a warm day and mine was a spicy bourbon drink with blackberries and jalepeno syrup. Looking at their online menu, I wish I had gotten the 'newly fashioned' though as the bourbon drink was hard to drink with the spicy jalepeno syrup. \n\nOverall great place and decent prices. Would go back and recommend to a friend. It was raining that night and we decided to walk on the Highline after (it's a block off it). I left my umbrella at the restaurant by mistake and walked up the block and turned around when I realized it was missing and it was a little annoying that when I returned after being gone 4-5 minutes and my umbrella mysteriously disappeared. The food and service are excellent. We live nearby and have been there many times. The only drawbacks are that it is expensive and LOUD. Fun for a special occasion if you're prepared for the noise. It's one of the first farm-to-table places and the dishes are fresh, tasty, not-too-fussy.

Love the Cookshop--have been many times through the years. Steak tartare and scallops were outstanding. Service great...managers very attentive. Exceptional meal.\nOnly caveat was than we requested a table 'in a quiet area if possible' explaining that I have hearing loss( wear hearing aids). We were seated at a middle table w/in arms length of the servers station despite the fact that tables for 2 and 4 remained vacant for the duration in the back/quiet section closer to the kitchen.\nNonetheless it was a great meal and I often highly recommend the restaurant to others--especially foodies. Even the deviled eggs were tasty/delicious.

The tables are way too close together. The first table they put us at was next to where waiters and diners accessed the outdoor terrace and people kept bumping against my chair so I asked to move. The next table was where diners and waiters entered another tight dining space so again more bumping against my chair. The food was tasteless. I had the lamp chops which was HUGE - never had such a big piece. It was dry and tasteless. So I basically just ate the fried potato chunks that came with it. Everything was way too salty! My dining companion had the roast chicken which was just chicken. No sides! Just basically a whole chicken! It too was tasteless and full of salt. And very odd that there wasn't a vegetable with it. We asked if there was a vegetable to go on the side and were told it was under the chicken but nothing was there. Luckily we started with oysters which were actually really good. But we decided to go somewhere else for dessert because our main course was so awful. The service was nice though. But huge disappointment over the food.

I found this place recommended by foursquare for patio brunch in Manhattan. It's a great location in Chelsea, right by the High Line. It has great outdoor seating with umbrellas. The service was kind and friendly. The menu had familiar options with culinary twists. We ordered the breakfast quinoa salad (lots of paprika), buttermilk chicken sandwich (delicious but HUGE, the homemade potato chips on the side were AMAZING), radishes with butter (my favorite), deviled eggs flight (okay, too much paprika again). We also got the strawberry ginger margaritas which were perfect with actual pureed strawberries. I would go again!

Outstanding brunch experience on our last day in New York! Service was friendly and prompt, including multiple offers for delicious coffee refills. Generous, rich huevos rancheros served on a hot plate fresh from the oven; a classic breakfast and eggs distinguished itself with buttery soft potatoes with a light but flavorful smokey sauce. We got a seat on the patio no problem - all the better to enjoy the people (and dog) watching. Right across the street from the High Line. Highly recommended!

Modern, casual place with creative, tasty dishes. Can get lively, and is conveniently located near the Highline. Street side seating was full. Audrey was a nice waitress; her pace/vibe was more Sunday Brooklyn Bakery than Friday night Manhattan (which was when we ate at Cookshop). The decor is clean and modern, with hints of classic diner. Looks like it could be toddler-friendly. I went with friends to catch up. The side of bok choi was old and rough, though well flavored. The chef was willing to accommodate with smoked tomato sauce, which tasted house-made. Portions were great. Drinks refreshing and wine just right (not bad, not spectacular).

I'm lucky enough to live and work near Cookshop--and so can often take advantage of its brilliant food and service more often than many. On this particular evening, everything was--as it always is--wonderfully cooked, and served (by staff who know the menu and are really good at what they do) from drinks (the ginger margarita is your friend) to food, which encompassed oysters that tasted straight from the water, to a fish dish and mixed grill platter. Try the spring vegetable soup, which has just joined the menu too. My dining partner had never had an evening meal there, and (a tough crowd of one) was equally impressed.

Came for breakfast on an week day. The place was moderately empty. I was seated immediately and ordered within 10min or so of being seated. The food is read to sound like a lot of food but you're actually being fed small to non-existent portions for the price, unless you get pancakes (but who can really eat more than 2) you'll leave dissatisfied. I had the option that sounded like the most will come out of the dollars they want since I was very hungry. Who bothers to serve grits but gives only close to a tbls amount? Overall I think this is one time and done spot if ya are very close by and not hungry.

It does get very loud, and even though it was a fairly professional business crowd at lunch, we did end up having to yell a bit to hear one another. \n\nOnly other concern was that the Chicken salad, which was delicious, had very little greens and was mostly the chicken on a thin bed of greens - so truly more a chicken dish and definitely not a salad.

I feel like that should be mentioned in the description. And it was stringy and I almost choked. Also then greens that they have mixed in with the lobster were like plastic and also hard to get down. I should have just left it... Other stuff was nice, though, just wish I had wasted so much money on something I didn't enjoy at all.

I have often walked by Cookshop as I live a few blocks over and it's always so busy and have never gone inside as I usually don't like to wait to sit down to eat. However this time I booked an online reservation for dinner this particular night. We got to our reservation early and grabbed a drink near the bar.\n\nAfter sitting down we we were greeted by a server and asked what type of water we would like. Then upon their return asked us for more drinks. My date ordered a wine and got to get a sample of it prior to committing to the glass. I ordered a beer from their list of a few. No draft beers but decent selection of local craft beers on the menu.\n\nMy date was a vegetarian so we ordered a few shared dishes that vegetarian friendly and there's tons across the menu that are delicious. We started off with the Deviled Eggs Tasting Sampler. There was one with Harissa, Olives, Fish Roe and Bread Butter Pickle. the Olive was my favorite. After the devlied Eggs we shared a citrus salad with tangerine, cara cara & blood orange, endive, dates and mint. It was great. I noticed later on our neighbors ordered the same salad but had asked for it with feta cheese and I thought that was probably a nice addition. We split the Mezze that had broccoli rabe, red wine braised cabbage, roasted cauliflower, grain salad, marinated beets, pistachio & yogurt, naan. The Red Wine Braised Cabbage was my favorite part of it and the Naan.\n\nOne other thing to note that I commend Cookshop on was it's service. Everyone was very friendly. After starting our meal another couple had sat down next to us but except for one of them sitting in the booth portion and the other on the outside they decided to both sit in the booth. It seemed as though my date was on a date with them and not me. This was very annoying as it is tight seating. After this had gone on for a few minutes one of the waitresses walked by and asked the gentleman to sit on the outside as they were going to sit another table next t them.

Cook shop is one of those rare restaurants with a truly happy spirit. Always popular and yet people look perfectly happy to wait around if needed, simply starting the party with a drink and socializing before being seated. Personally I like to go straight to a table, and with a reservation (made fairly soon in advance) have never had to wait. The food is a home run every time. I don't know how they do it. By day, this restaurant is a nice place to have brunch or lunch. Not a fancy place, but a menu that is thoughtful and different. I wondered how that would translate to dinner so we tried it out with another couple on a Friday night. Its amazing how subdued lighting and candlelight transformed the restaurant. The dinner menu was just as inventive as the one at lunch. The drinks menu was creative and the bartender was excellent. The waitstaff seemed to sense that we were there for an unhurried dinner, and was the right mix of attentive and careful not to rush us. I tried porgie for the first time, and the other diners had the seafood stew, cassoulet, and lamb chops. All of us were happy with our meals and very satisfied that we had made an excellent choice. The place was good. Service was excellent and the staff was kind and quick. It's a long wait for brunch, but they take reservations, which I recommend. For the food itself, it was delicious but some of their dishes maybe an 'acquired' taste. I liked them but nothing really above anything else. Try them at least once if it's for you. Would likely go again.

The restaurant is beautiful and has a great atmosphere and vibe. We were seated next to a very loud group (one of those things), but it was not bad. \n\nWe did not elect to drink at that meal and got the feeling our server wasn't thrilled about that. Service was indifferent but our appetizer and main courses came out at a great pace. And they were excellent - well-prepared, nicely presented, and delicious. \n\nWe decided to order dessert and therein lies the rub. We waited and waited and waited, but our server disappeared. We saw her walk by on several occasions but she never looked at our table. We asked another staffer to ask her to come by but continued to wait. We were ready to cancel the dessert and just cash out. And then it showed up. \n\nSo we ate it, even though this last part of the meal put a bit of a damper on what was otherwise a great experience. To her credit, the server did come by, apologized, and comped the dessert. Nice gesture, but...\n\nSo we will be back at some point, and we'll recommend it to others who visit NYC, but it just could've been better with better service.

A packed restaurant with people coming and going constantly. Don't be put off by that though, the food was wonderful and the drinks strong. We had breakfast/brunch on a Saturday morning. The Bloody Mary was spicy and a tasted great with egg dishes. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. It is worth the trip.

The Cookshop continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The venison carpaccio served for Thanksgiving is THE best dish I have EVER eaten (and I eat at a lot of starred restaurants). The food is always of the highest quality and service warm, friendly and attentive. I recommend to Foodies, Veggies and anyone looking for just good food and friendly service.

I've eaten at Cookshop probably 10 times between 2010 and 2015. It used to be guaranteed delicious food with great service, a romantic, tastefully decorated atmosphere with twinkling candlelight. It was special. But my visit in Nov 2015 shows it's changed. The service was lackluster, the food was just OK. Definitely not the quality it used to be - and no longer worth the money. Bummer - it used to be one of my go-tos! Basically - everything is just mediocre. It's not bad - there's just nothing exceptional about it anymore, and for a place where 4 of us spent almost $400 for food and wine, there are many other choices.

The tomato salad was great, but my chicken was underdone, still tight on the bone and skin chewy/not fully rendered; the accompanying green salad was inedibly oversalted. \n\nService was mixed. Initially front of house was very welcoming, although the manager who gave the child of a VIP at the table next to us free dessert didn't acknowledge our existence as we left the restaurant. Our server responded to a wine pairing recommendation by telling us 'what people usually order' (not what we asked). She never enquired why three pieces of chicken were left uneaten on the plate (we did take them home and will make something actually delicious from them later this week.) \n\nI was traveling in Denver last week and every single meal I ate there was superior to this one.
