About Koi - Bryant Park

Rich earth tones of orange, red and brown impart warmth to the cool and tranquil space. Thin tapestries of translucent rose fabric are embellished with flame motifs and suspended from the ceiling, creating a separate seating area perfect for a light bite near the large front windows. Famous for its unique and mouth-watering interpretation of Japanese cuisine. Upscale Japanese fare is given a jolt of new life through an innovative use of ingredients, resulting in refreshing and exciting flavor combinations. Crispy Rice with Spice Tuna, an addictive version of the classic spicy tuna roll, featuring warm grilled rice topped with a thick layer of cool, savory tuna. Baked Crab Roll, for which succulent fresh crabmeat is wrapped in a thin rice crepe paper dotted with sesame seeds and baked to perfection. Hamachi Fusion with Soy-Citrus and Truffle Essence all artfully plated by Koi’s skilled culinary team.

This was my second time at Koi. It's a lovely place. A little noisy, but I was still able to have a serious business discussion on a Monday evening. I found the food to be pretty good, although the miso glaze on the black cod was overly sweet. I think the prices are a little high for food that is very good but not really that unique and special. The food is very light, which can be good for some people and not so good for others.

Koi is a tried-and-true sushi restaurant just south of Bryant Park. It's always hopping, meaning the noise level is often a bit higher than one would like for comfortable business conversation. The food is generally excellent; I recommend the custom rolls featured on the menu or as specials. If there's one thing I'd like to see them change is their ironbound policy to not seat partial parties. That's just annoying. If you're there for a business lunch you should be able to sit down before your guest gets there. But other than that little nit, Koi is a wonderful lunch place.

My friend and I had a lovely, post theatre dinner. The food and service were excellent. Only conplaint was that our delicious Basil Martinis had way too much ice and very little martini. We were not asked whether we wanted them on the rocks or up. The food is delicious, but somewhat overpriced.

We used to frequent Koi. Then life got in the way and we hadn't been back in quite some time. \nWe decided to spend a night in the city and, of course, what's a night out without a visit to Koi?! \nThe food was exceptional, as always. Our favorite of the night was the Seared Tuna & Foie Gras! The staff was friendly and just the right amount off attentive. \nWe went with the servers recommendation on dessert and she was spot on! Just fabulous!

My husband and I come here a fair amount, but since I'm pregnant we've avoided coming too often because it is torture for me ;) This time we brought his parents who are inexperienced with sushi and big fans of fish. It was a delightful experience that opened their eyes and left them still talking about the meal the next day. LOVE Koi!

I love Koi. The food is always so great. Their crispy rice is what they are known for and is a must! I also really loved the Double Tuna Roll, and the Northern Lights Roll is my favorite. For entrees the Steamed Chilean Sea Bass is so delicious I have to get it every time I go! The only reason why I gave the service not such a good rating is not because of our server, our server was great. I was disappointed because I left my sweater at the restaurant and called them a half hour after I left and they said they couldn't find it. They put me on hold but I don't think they looked at all. I was sitting at a table, but my side had a booth. I asked them to check the floor as well. They said it wasn't there. I decided to go back to the restaurant and spoke with the host and he said it wasn't there. I asked if I could go take a look, and my sweater was sitting right on the back of my chair.\n\nOther than that I usually have a good experience at Koi. If you lose something I would go back and check yourself!

Sushi before theatre. Good sushi & small plates before heading to nearby theatre. The 'scene' does not get crazy until it is time to leave for an 8 o'clock curtain. You can order a full meal or bits and pieces. Fish was fresh & some of the preparations were interesting.

I really like Koi, nice decor, friendly and helpful staff, and the food is usually very, very good and enjoyable.\nThis particular visit I was a little disappointed with the dish I ordered, (the Duck Breast). It was the first time I've ever gotten anything I didn't love at Koi. Duck should be crispy but this wasn't, it was described as coming with a ginger glaze, it came with some ginger sauce on the side and the duck was bland. My lobster tacos, on the other hand were delicious and was my friends prawn dish, and the service never disappoints.

Sushi is solid as are the entrees and cocktails. If you're looking for the most authentic Japanese you won't find it here, but it is good for groups that include folks who don't love traditional Japanese food as it has a number of entrees that are not particularly Japanese. Accommodating to parties with children, particularly if you dine early. Later in the evening becomes a date and friends-night-out scene.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Koi on Thursday 12/15.\nWhen I placed my order, I asked the waiter several times about each item being gluten free and he confirmed. When my food came, there was something fried, and someone else confirmed it was not gluten free. He never had gluten free tamari sent to to the table. He couldn't be bothered to come by and talk about the mix up. The only time he did come by was as the last plate was cleared, and then gave me attitude about the gluten free mix up. Part of my enjoyment of going out is the service. There was no service, and they royally messed up my gluten free request and seemed to be unphased by it. I expect more from a high end restaurant.

We had a reservation for two at 7 on Saturday. We were promptly shown to a table that was extremely close to another table - so close they could hear every word we would day, and it was uncomfortable. We requested a different table. The hostess was very sweet but stated that all the table are extremely close to each other (this is true, although the one we were led to was worse than the others) and she then got the manager. The manager, Frederic, was lovely. He understood the situation immediately, and told us right away that he would do what ever he could to make us happy. And, in fact, he did just that. We pointed to a table that was better for us and he not only switched us to the table we liked, but he also bought us an appetizer and a dessert. Incredible. It totally changed our night around, and we are so thankful to Frederic for being such a fabulous manager. The food was very good - we stuck mainly to sushi. The salmon sashimi with black truffle oil was superb. Lobster tacos very good too. We were not crazy about the pot stickers. The rolls were average. The molten lava chocolate dessert was excellent.

On my own in NYC and wanted to find great sushi. Koi was highly recommended, so I made a reservation for one and went in. While I did not expect the best table for my 'party of one,' I did expect that a restaurant in NYC would be able to accommodate a single diner better than they did me. I found myself stuck on the end of the sushi bar, next to the server station. While I did get to see all the dishes going to the other diners, and my waitress was very attentive, the experience of very good sushi was dampened by the feeling that I was imposing on the establishment.

Eating at Koi was a wonderful experience for me and my boyfriend. We were staying at The Bryant Park Hotel to celebrate my birthday. We both adore sushi, so we made reservations to Koi. This was the best decision of our trip! The entrees were a bit pricey (keeping in mind it is good quality food in NYC), but the menu included your standard sushi roll options if you wanted a cheaper meal. I recommend the Koi Crispy Rice as a starter or shared dish and the Flourless Molten Chocolate Cake for dessert.

Our server, Kahlah, was absolutely fantastic! She was perceptive of each of our individual tastes and recommended perfect matches. The food was, simply put, delectable. The rice crispy crunch from the small plates menu was delicious, as were lobster tacos, seaweed salad and sushi tacos. The black cod is to die for, while the steamed Chilean sea bass left something to be desired. A little more seasoning / marination would help the sea bass. Overall, Koi is a beautiful find!

While in NYC on business, I met my daughter there for an early dinner. We sat downstairs by the windows and enjoyed the people watching outside and in the restaurant. The server gave us good recommendations & was attentive without hovering or rushing us which was much appreciated.

Here is my two cents: The waiter was rude when we asked to replace the beer with floating sediment in it; we even showed it to him next to a candle. When he pour the new beer, which appeared normal to us, he made the comment 'I dont see any difference from the previous one'. Same waiter who also serve the table next to us said 'That's not enough food' when an old couple ordering 5 items of share items, appetizers, and sushi roll! Either the restaurant has a minimum order for a table that I am not aware of or they should train waiter to explain the menu to clients in a better manner and make suggestions, not his personal comments!\n\nThe food was average tasting. The menu wasnt attractive, which is a let down from many great online reviews. And they literally have four pop songs on repeat the entire dinner time. We all come for the food, to celebrate an occasion, but we return for the service, and this is definitely not on my return list!

Our biggest restaurant disappointment during our last visit to New York. The share food concept is lovely but at Koi the food was way too tasteless. Almost all dishes we had (for example the Koi Crispy Rice, the Lobster Tacos and the Sweet Chili Shrimp Roll) lacked the 'punch' and taste experience one wants in this kind of place. Some chili, some lime, just anything would have lifted and boosted the flavors. Our only highlights were the Kobe Wagyu Carpaccio with shitake and the desserts. Service was friendly and the place has a pretty cool interior, but for this kind of money (and with the reviews we had read beforehand) we expected much more. And one detail regarding value for money - 9 dollars for a double espresso? That's just plain robbery, no matter how good the coffee is...

Excellent sushi and impeccable, friendly service. Quite possibly the best potsticker I've had. The fish was fresh and delicate. I especially liked the fluke. Our table was ready promptly at 8pm on a Friday. Our server struck just just the right mix of being attentive, personable, and letting us talk. She was open to feedback and replaced a flat dessert espresso immediately. Also found Koi a great value compared to other higher end sushi places in NYC. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in the city.

Great atmosphere, and fantastic service, but the sushi is not quite as good as the LA Koi. Perhaps it's what fish is available to them at market, but the Hamachi Fusion was very fishy (yes, I know it's fish), and there were a couple of small ingredients usually on the dishes in LA that were missing here. For entrees, my guests and I had short ribs, lamb chops and everyone loved it from fusion experts to those getting their first diverse experience ... Everything this last week was once again great and the restaurant vibe is always great as well... Lastly, they have an Asian pale ale YoYoMa or something like that, that can't be found anywhere that is just amazing so Sapporo and Kirin aren't the only options.

Just don't have bathroom attendants or train them properly. If I wasn't with my daughter I would have kicked his ass given how aggressive he was towards me. Koi needs to make some changes, I didn't realize I was on the streets of San Francisco dealing with a pan handler.

The issue is that there are several places in Manhattan to find excellent quality sashimi and sushi. There was nothing 'spectacular', it was very good. Even the martinis were good but nothing spectacular. There are a plethora of options when dining in Manhattan and gasp even the outer boroughs. Koi has the attitude that they are a one in a million gem, but in reality it is all about the packaging. The packaging is grand, what is inside is average. Sometimes, though, special occasions warrant grand packaging. . .

Koi is an attractively designed restaurant spot in the Bryant Park Hotel. The restaurant has a hip vibe that is too often taken for an excuse for indifferent and frenetic service. Our food was reasonably fine, nothing spectacular, nothing horrific. Drinks were priced at the NY expectation of ridiculous. Our server seemed to be eager to turn the table throughout our visit, as our party of 7 was hardly seated before receiving an inquiry about drinks and starters. Our server seemed put off that we did not order then, though the single wine list/drink menu provided was making its way from guest to guest. Each course was placed on the table to be immediately followed by an inquiry about ordering the next. The sushi was good, as were the appetizers. The entrees were varied, some notable, others forgettable. The lamb would have made Fred Flintstone proud with four massive chops on a pile of mashed potatoes so big, we re-enacted the scene from 'Close Encounters'. Though tasty, the dish did not fit with the expectations of an asian-influenced place, either in flavor and certainly not in scale. As we were hurried through the meal, we were not overly put off since due to the sound levels in the room, we could not hear our companions across the table. Skipping dessert, we went next door for some Blue Bottle coffee and a quiet stroll through Bryant Park in an effort to relax after our visit to the NASCAR of restaurants that is Koi.

Had not been to Koi for a few years and so it was good to see that the quality has not dropped since our last visit. Neither had the prices, mind you, so it is not what I would call an everyday dining venue. Not on my budget anyway. It was worth going back for the crispy rice alone; lots of other places do this now but Koi's is a step up from most imitators. We over-ordered as usual, finishing with the tuna sashimi with foie gras and truffle oil, which was as delicious as it was decadent. Our waitress was a delight and a perfect balance between helpful and genuine, without any hint of overbearing that is so common in the US. Will definitely return.

We loved Koi! We went early because we had theatre tickets. We ordered 4 sharing dishes. The lobster tacos were amazing! The only slight disappointment were the Kobe potstickers. The beef was braised - tasty but we expected a nice slice of Kobe beef inside. We were served way too quickly! Our waiter apologized - the restaurant was still very quiet so the kitchen wasn't busy. We had a yummy dessert - banana chocolate spring rolls were delicious. The restaurant is very pretty - and the dishes we chose were tasty and beautifully presented.

I have heard wonderful things about Koi from wife because she frequents the restaurant for business breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Our date-night is Wednesday night. I like to different restaurants that are either convenient to home (Chelsea) or my wife's firm (6th Ave/W40's). I went on Open Table as usual and searched for a restaurant in Midtown West for a 6:30pm reservation. I was shocked to see availability since I was booking this reservation last minute around 4:45 on Wednesday. So Lucky! I must have got the last reservation because the next available became 8:30pm after that. I sent an invite to my wife and she could not believe I got us reservation. This was my first dining experience at Koi and I was not disappointed. I started with the seaweed salad, Uni sushi (2-pieces) and for my entrée I had the fish tacos wrapped in nori. The seaweed salad was perfectly dressed NOT oozing with dressing; Uni was super fresh and very generous portion; the tuna and salmon tacos (2 of each) easily substantial enough to consider as an entrée. My wife started with the green salad which was BIG and had the chicken as her entrée. Of course I tasted her chicken by finishing her entrée for her and it was fantastic.\nDrink recommendation: If you like jalapeño tequila drinks try the El Diablo. \nNeedless to say I am going to have as many date-night dinners a Koi as possible.

The help was nice but the food is not what you expect. They recommended at the table their soft shell crabs and honestly Red Lobster prepares them better. Kobe dumplings just did not taste right and asking for something without the waitress being involved is not going to happen the help does not speak English

We were looking for a good Japanese place somewhere around the Bryant Park area and upon looking at several reviews around the area, we decided on trying out Koi @ the Bryant Park Hotel.\n\nMe and my wife love to try out Japanese restaurants in general. We normally judge the resto based on the quality of their sushi and sashimi and since it was Sunday night in Manhattan, this was really putting their stock to the test. And I have to say they did pass this test. The sushi and sashimi we had were of good quality, their miso baked cod was also pretty good and top it all off, service and timing of the orders were good as well.\n\nWould definitely come back to this restaurant to try out their other items on the menu!

It was my husband's birthday - and if it weren't for a 9-teenagers' long table just in front of us, it would be perfect. Great sushi & sashimi, great dessert, the waiteress was very nice. The only negative point was the group of 'Gossip Girls' with never-ending selfies, shouts and cries, even though (at least it looked like) they have finished more than one hour before...Besides being a bit weird having a bunch of 14 year-olds in such an adult-like restaurant... Still, Koi kitchen is always a good, safe choice at Bryant Park region.

Everything about Koi was perfect. The service was impeccable, and the décor recalls the scales of a beautiful fish. Crispy rice cakes with spicy tuna were the perfect mix of crispy and creamy; salmon carpaccio was bright and fresh; and the wasabi short ribs were heavenly, so tender and savory I am still eating them in my imagination. The dragon roll was a revelation: I need tempura crumbles on everything I put in my mouth from now on. Followed by an adorable chocolate banana spring roll. Our server was so friendly and well-informed, I wish she could be there for every meal of my life. I also drink a silly amount of water, and the entire staff was so accommodating. Could not have had a better time. Thank you so much for a truly memorable dinner! I will be back and will be recommending.

First let's deal with the noise, which is mentioned in many online reviews. Its real, its potentially overwhelming on a Friday night. We were warned, you are too.\nOtherwise, a very nice setting, views out the window into the park for one of us and of the busy restaurant for the other.\nVery interesting menu with a good offering of fusion dishes and your standard sushi. Based on reading others reviews, we started with the lobster tacos and crispy rice with spicy tuna, both to share. Or we thought we did. They served the tacos along with the selection of sushi I ordered as my main. Asked about the crispy rice they said they held that for the end as it is a starch?\nAnyway, the tacos were very nice. My sushi, good maybe very good but not awesome. Her entrée followed along with my rice and tuna. She had the short ribs which were served with a plum based sauce and cauliflower blended with wasabi. Very good, very nice, would definitely order again. The crispy rice with spicy tuna, despite being one of the featured dishes was a disappointment. The tuna was not spicy and rather flavorless and the crispy rice was too much so, to the point where the dish went unfinished.\nNo dessert as we planned to sit for a little while in the park and then hit Lady M's cakes just next door. Good decision.\nCost, with drinks was less than I expected given where we were. We'll go back in future visits.

Virtually all the dishes are set up to share, so the three of us tried eight different dishes. There were no losers, though the one 'entree' dish we tried -- Miso bronzed black cod -- was pretty much the standard 'Morimoto' dish. Otherwise the Crispy Calamari Salad, Koi Crispy Rice, Edamame Dumplings and Sushi Tacos were excellent, and the Northern Lights and Double Tuna rolls were creative takes on these rolls.

Must have shared plates - The Koi Crispy Rice - fried sushi rice topped with spicy tuna; and the Seared Tuna with jalapeño and garlic crisps. The first being decadent and the second light, tender and bursting with flavor. We had the sushi special to share also, which were 5 pieces -- I don't remember what they were, but they didn't last on the table long enough! We also got an order of the lobster tacos and one of the sushi tacos - both great and very different - lobster ones were lighter, with mango and yuzu. The vibe was cool -- low lighting, beautifully done dining room, lively conversations and crowd made for a very enjoyable evening. Definitely will be back.

The lychee martinis are enough to make me come back every day, which is probably why I had 3 of them on Saturday. I have a gluten and dairy allergy, and the staff was more than accommodating. My guests and I were equally impressed with how the manager approached me to assure that all of my meals will come out without concern of any allergens being present . The crispy rice is amazing, and all of the rolls delicious. Their spicy tuna is so insanely addicting. For a girl who generally nevers likes sushi, I loved everything I was served! I had the steamed Chilean sea bass, which was delicious except for being a bit overly salty. The cocktails were good. Note that if you go on the early side, this is a good choice for kids who will eat sushi/Japanese. Because it is in the Bryant Park Hotel, the staff are used to families. Later in the evening, especially on weekends, it can get to be more of a dating and young group dining scene.

It has been a while since I ate at Koi, but I had remembered it being excellent. Those days have passed. The sushi used to be extraordinary, and now it's just extra ordinary. Our waiter was wonderful, but the snootiness of the host staff was just not necessary, especially when a restaurant is past its expiration date. When half the restaurant is empty and Open Table is offering an extra 100 points to reserve at your place, you should probably give your customers the table they prefer, especially when it is the same size as the table where you insist they sit for reasons unknown.

Our second time here and yet again it was completely outstanding. This time instead of sitting in the small but sweet area at the front with great views of Bryant Park, we were right up the back in the enormous mezzanine space - much bigger than you first realise. With the gorgeous professional Jennifer on the door hosting again, we were also thrilled to have the same amazing waiter looking after us - but we can't remember his name sorry! The food is beyond belief - plates of sushi of such great flavor and quality, and the whole evening was marvellous. Our best advice we could offer is that you stay at your table and don't bother with cocktails at the bar downstairs - the service and drinks are terrible and its not run by the restaurant - really dreadful waitresses who don't know what drinks are available or what's in them! Stay in Koi for good sake and for gods sake!!!!

The service is trending downhill, as every time I dine here I feel more and more rushed. The waiters are on top of you to order. The bussers will take your plate away before you are finished ( this is the worst part of it). My favorites: Crispy Rice, edamame dumplings, creamy rock shrimp, double tuna roll, baked crab roll, and sweet chili shrimp. For entrees, the short ribs are great and the miso cod is a staple. We sit down and he sets us up with edamame and drinks before we've even had a chance to ask. Great at anticipating our needs. The sushi/sashimi is some of the freshest I've every had the Sushi chef slices the fish to precision. My friend has the scallop special on Friday and she sang the chef's praises. I am very sorry to say, this restaurant has a poor quality kitchen and chef. Although the service was very good, the food was inedible. It seemed that everything was prepared long in advance and the seafood was rubber with no flavor. The manager removed both entrees from our check and was very considerate. Our server was excellent and clearly concerned about our terrible experience, but in the end, if you serve old, dead fish with pre-prepared desiccated side dishes, that ARE COMPLETELY INEDIBLE, you should not be operating an establishment that is supposed to provide nutrients without killing clients.

We had high hopes trying KOI however the restaurant falls short where food is concerned. The room is nice enough, located in the Bryant Hotel, but I suspect that it's best days are behind it as it's starting to look worn. Overall though the ambience created still manages to give you high hopes regarding the food you will be served. Here are the problems:\n\n1) It's shocking when a pricey Japanese restaurant with a 'reputation' can't get a tempura right. Unreal. The tempura shrimp roll was 'gummy'. This usually means that the batter has been hanging around a little too long and/or the oil temperature is too low. Add to this that the shrimp were probably fried 30 minutes before we placed out order and what you get is a cold tasteless mess.\n\n2) The signature crispy rice dish - it's a riff on classic sushi. The rice is shaped and then fried. A spicy tuna fish 'paste' or rare yellowtail tops it off. Interesting concept but what is a diner supposed to conclude when the rice is cold, hard and oily? Errors like this usually mean that it's amateur night in the kitchen. The manager apologized and brought me another. Embarrassing. BTW I should have ordered something else.\n\n3) Lobster tacos. These were OK but my dining partner tasted something was amiss. The manager tried one and agreed. Said that the recipe had recently changed and it wasn't right to him either. Was the lobster off? Hmmm. We sent it back. \n\n4) Miso black cod. This was good but wasn't good enough to make up for the evening up top that point. \n\n5) Short Ribs - embarrassingly bad. Do they steam the meat before putting it on the grill? The cubes of short rib meat were arranged nicely and in a straight line on the plate. They tasted like they were prepared the previous day. The meat looked grey. Unreal. \n\nCheck out the NY Times review of May 25, 2005. Incredibly after 10 years nothing has changed. \n\nMy recommendation: Go elsewhere, or if you must try it, stay at the bar and stick with the sushi/sashimi.

Made a reservation well in advance for dinner to entertaining guests from out of town. Despite the reservation we had to wait over half an hour for a table and we were only seated when I elevated the issue to the manager.\n\nThe sushi was OK, the sake selections were very limited for a Japanese restaurant (they had no dry sake--only sweet sake). The waiter forgot to bring one of the guests dinner and when it finally arrived it had clearly been just sitting around for while (overcooked and dried out).\n\nBut the best is last: To add injury to insult one of my guests had food poisoning after eating there.

Extremely disappointing especially since we were there for a celebration. Many of the dishes were pre-made and so there is no flexibility to exclude ingredients which is unfortunate if you have allergies. Wait staff were overstretched and tried to take our order while attending to another table's request. Plates were removed while we were still eating. Was so disgusted that we left before dessert! Won't recommend to anyone.

Overall a good experience. I was surprised after making reservations 3 weeks in advance to be sat at the sushi bar. If they seat all single diners there then they should notify you in advance. The food was very good and the service was good. Had to ask for refill on beer twice, and check. They ask you if they can bring you some Edamame before selecting your meal. Note this will cost you $6.00. Also for 3 Stella Artois, 2 sushi rolls and the Edamame with tip the bill came to $92.00. A bit pricey but as a special occasion, I can understand

Koi has fallen in quality. I used to love the crunchy rice/tuna dish and the sushi in general. We were there for lunch and multiple fails on the food - the crunchy rice was okay but a bit overdone. They then tried to pass a piece of regular tuna off as 'an extra special type of toro' when they had run out of the toro type on the menu. The rice on the sushi cut rolls was terrible - fell apart and not done enough. I won't be going out of my way to eat here anymore. Such a shame - used to be great.

Luckily my wife, and the woman at the table next to us are thin and were able to squeeze into their seats, however I could see an average sized person having an issue with trying to sit in the booth. Also, I wouldn't want someone's posterior getting that close to my food. The wait staff had to pull our tables out in order to sit back in the booth.\n\nAlso, the wait staff was a little OVER attentive, it was a slight annoyance rather than a major issue.

I gave the place great reviews for food/service/ambiance bc really it was above average, but really the price was WAY above average and maybe not proportional to the food itself. For 2 starters, 1 entree, 5 sushi rolls, 2 alcoholic drinks, and 1 soft drink we paid $225 including 18% tip. I grew up in the NY/NJ area so I'm used to paying for places like this when I go on occasion but the sushi was only slightly better than average and while the starters were cool they weren't life changing or anything. If you're going to take a date out to a hot spot for a special occasion or are young and going somewhere to show off and be seen you might be happy with this place but if you're going for the food and don't need to be in a hot spot you can do MUCH better in NYC.

If you're looking for quiet ambiance and a secluded spot for a romantic dinner...this is not it. However if you want a spot where everything about the food and service is above par then park yourself in a booth or table and have at it. The sea bass was outstanding with just the right amount of savory kick without it being overtly spicy. The lobster tail in sake truffle butter was fan-friggen-tastic!! If you've got gluten issues theirs a separate menu with about 25% of what's on the regular menu including some sushi and their signature dishes sans gluten items. The front of the house is New York Chic with the dark mahogany backdrop highlighted by neutral tones in the seating and hanging elements. And you can't forget the splashes of red & gold required if you've got an Asian theme. It was my first time and I went because it's right at Bryant Park and the other reviews were outstanding also.

Their crispy rice is a must have. Everything we ordered was great; from the himachi carpaccio to lobster tacos, and the creamy cod tempura. Service is great. Koi is not be of my favorite restaurants!

Delicious Japanese food, signature rolls. Tasty and delicate . Nice atmosphere on a Sunday night, could be very noisy on Fridays and Saturdays.\nWine by the glass extremely expensive.

Koi always has incredible food and very consistent quality. I love taking visitors here because I know they will always be impressed and they also get to see Bryant Park. The only issue we had this past visit was that our waiter was a bit soft spoken and the restaurant was a little loud, but he was still very knowledgable and helpful once we could hear him.

The ambiance is classy from when you walk through the main door. The tables are set beautifully. The decor is amazing. We ordered the ginger mojito, El diablo, warm sake, crispy rice, kobe potstickers, creamy shrimp tempura, lobster tacos, miso black cod, peppercorn crusted filet mignon and coconut rice pudding brulee. Everything was amazing from the first to last bite. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was impeccable our server was very attentive. Our water glasses were refilled regularly. I will definitely come back again.

Absolutely out of the world fantastic food and service. My only criticism is the noise level, which is beyond loud; this is not the place for a conversation of any kind.

Excellent Asian food. Wonderful specialties served with excellence. Don't miss the Lobster tacos or the spicy shrimp hand rolls. Also noteworthy - specialty drinks - try the Pear Martini

We took my daughter to Koi for a wonderful birthday dinner. The staff was very friendly and attentive without being hovering. Great recommendations throughout the entire menu. \nWe had a array of appetizers and found good items for meat and non-meat eaters. Salmon carpaccio and lobster tacos were highlights. \nOK- we had a lot to eat but couldn't turn down the deserts. The chocolate banana spring rolls were amazing. \nWe had main dishes ranging from fish, to short ribs to tuna - all very well done and well presented.\nNot a extra bite was left on the table. \n\nWe'll be back often.

Went to Koi before a show on a rainy night, arriving at 6:15 and needing to leave by 7:35. The service was superb - we got in and out on time and never felt rushed; despite having drinks, appetizers and entrees. Of course, the food was wonderful as well, which is why we will keep coming back!

Went looking for a restaurant close to theatre - found Koi and couldn't have been happier! Food was amazing as was the service; everyone from the hostess who greeted us to our waiter and even the bus boys were friendly, knowledgeable and on their game. We allowed plenty of time prior to the show but everything ran so smoothly we were able to really enjoy the lively atmosphere, outstanding cocktails and delicious food...HIGHLY recommend Koi to one and all!

The pomegranate martini (Koi-tini) was delicious. The best martini I've ever had. And the desserts were to die for. My veggie roll wasn't as good as I've had. Too dry. But I was told the other rolls were really good. The crispy rice with seared tuna was good, too.

I love the food at Koi, and go anytime we are in the city. The only thing I have to say that is negative is the proximity of the seats. Feels very claustrophobic when you first sit down. It's tough to get out of the seats once you are in it, without bothering the seats next to you. This is if you are a twosome, anyone else has a larger seating space.\nThe food is very good. Some of the best sushi I've eaten. I will always go back, and deal with the side by side seating.

The food was excellent except the lobster tacos where not exceptional and not worth the price of the entree. It did not taste like lobster, it had no flavor, and the shells tasted stale. However, the bake lobster role was fantastic

The crispy rice is by far the best dish on the menu! Our server Nirmal was extremely pushy. My husband and I often dine here, I do not mind a recommendation, but please do not jam the specials at me like that. So pushy, but yet not around when we needed another refil. Not happy.

awesome meal, we come here every time we are in NYC and have never been less than thrilled\nKOI knew it was our anniversary (via the open table reservation) and when we ordered dessert, they wrote 'happy anniversary' in chocolate on the plate... but the food quality and uniqueness is what keeps us coming down. every dish is great. a can't miss!

We unfortunately found out about Koi only after we left New York. But now it is one of the places we visit everytime we visit. Food is very good, but if you have room for desert, definetely try the Sundea! One of the best we ever had.

Overpriced and underwhelmed. Server didn't write anything down, but should have since something was missing/wrong with every order from the drinks to the entrees. Run of the mill sushi way overpriced. \n\nGet equally mediocre food for far less at many places or find better food for the same price elsewhere.

great menu because you can get very interesting variations of both raw sushi and great cooked items, so everyone can eat here. Very interesting menu, not to be pigeon holed as just sushi, or just Asian. the menu is varied and eclectic. drinks are generous, service immaculate. the place was jammed, but our table was waiting despite a line out the door. we were greeted warmly, seated promptly, had drinks in minutes, and our first food moments later. the menu us geared to small plates that can be shared, not individual whole main courses, so a couple can order 5 or 6 different things, have plenty to eat and really control the eating experience and cost (some plates can be spendy!) . You might need help navigating the menu, which your server can happily accommodate, so do NOT stress. just enjoy. the dishes we tried ranged from merely fabulous to incredible.

Reservations mean next to nothing, so if you have a large group or not a lot of time I would not suggest this place. I made reservations for 8 and luckily some of our group cancelled last minute, because we it took 15 minutes for our reduced party of 3 to be seated and there was no where good for us to stand. The food was really innovative, but may not be good for those who aren't very adventurous. I adored the seaweed salad, and the short ribs were amazing. The potato and green bean sides were a hit with the less adventurous people in our group.

I have been to Koi in Beverly Hills and this NYC location was not up to the standard of Koi's reputation. It seemed they were only interested in pounding through the guests and turning the table as many times as possible. Tables along the window were squeezed together and I was passing food to other customers because area was too tight for access by servers.

great food. Service not so good. Felt so rushed. Waiter came back every 30 seconds to see if we wanted to order our meals. We couldn't just enjoy a drink before eating. \nWhile we were having appetizers, the dinner arrived so they insisted on taking the unfinished appetizers \n\nFood was great, but the waiters need to calm down!

I travel to NYC for business quite often, and always use Open Table to book the restaurants. I normally do a NY steakhouse, but decided to try something different for my clients this time. OT did not disappoint. The sushi menu is extensive, without getting too cumbersome to read. The saki was amazing! Probably the best tasting saki I've ever had. The mackeril was amazingly smooth, and the crispy rice spicy tuna roll is my new favorite food. If in NYC, you have to try this place. We drank a ton of saki and ate a ton more of sushi, and still walked out of the place for about $100 per person. Very nice experience.
