About Mercer Kitchen

Located at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. When Mercer Kitchen opened in 1998, it immediately became a destination for New Yorkers, celebrities, and tourists. Situated in the basement of a historic building constructed in the 1800s, the… restaurant was designed by Christian Liaigre as a combination of industrial and classic modernism. Chef Jean-Georges’ American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show.

This was my first visit and based on the experience I will be back. We were a group of four and everything we all ate was delicious. I do not always have dessert but I could not resist the butterscotch pudding and it was amazing and well worth the calories. I can't wait for my next visit!

Made the last brunch appointment at 4p Sat - the best part were the fries. Crabcake was a bit salty but otherwise excellent. The organic chicken was delicious. The lamb sandwich was meh - sliced lamb served cold, tasted more like roast beef and was nothing special. The kids pasta and kids pizza were good enough that they were both finished. The chocolate cake and the tropical banana split were also really good although small portions.\n\nThe oddest part was the service. We were served by at least 8 different people - so it seemed like a team approach. But while there were plenty of them, and it was good to be able to ask anyone for anything, there were consistent misses. First, they were all anonymous because we never got a name. Then, there was the server who brought out two orders of fries but only 1 little ketchup cup that was clearly not enough. Or when a kid ordered a Sprite, which 20 min later had not come. So we asked another server, who came back and told us sorry, they're out of Sprite but the other guy had forgotten to come back to tell us. Later he found us some Sprite anyway. Water was refilled, but only after sitting empty for half an hr. Or when we ordered 3 desserts but only 2 came, although all 3 were on our bill (took off when we pointed that out). All in all, the inconsistent (aka bad) service unnecessarily drew out brunch into a 2 hr affair.

A truly terrible dining experience. Horrible service, sat us down 45 minutes late and the service got worse from there. Way understaffed and just an all around bad experience. Stay away, there are too many good restaurants in NYC to waste your time here.

Scheduled for 9:15pm. Arrived on time. Got the table at 9:45pm. Got my drink towards the end of the meal. I know the place, visited many times. Was scheduled for a movie in Angelica. Had to swallow the dinner without an opportunity for desert or rest. I'm not coming to Mercer kitchen only for the food, I come for the whole deal including resting after a long week of work. It was not a good visit this time.

We were seated immediately and then things got dicey. We sat staring at one another wondering why we had no menus. Our waiter came over about 10 minutes later and muttered something incomprehensible. He seemed angry when we told him we didn't have menus and retrieved them for us with an eye roll and nary an apology or smile. This was the highlight of our time with Sean. Luckily a busser had our back and made sure we had water and bread. He really came in handy when we looked at our empty dinner plates for 20 minutes wondering if we were supposed to wash them ourselves. Overall, the food was moderate and overpriced. Very limited selection for vegetarians. The decor was lovely, but super dark: most of the other patrons needed cell phone flashlights to see the menus...which for some reason they didn't have to ask for. I'm not going back.

This is another stunning NYC restaurant. The leather curtains upon entry are gorgeous and so is every other visual detail of the restaurant. The food was excellent. Different enough to be interesting, but not so different that it feels like the restaurant is trying too hard to be trendy. The service however was awful. We couldn't get the server's attention if we set the table on fire. What an idiot. He could've easily added another $150+ in drinks alone if he'd paid attention to us.

The food was not suficiently hot, the chicken entree (ROAST ORGANIC CHICKEN) was frustrating, a meal without shine, no signature, very well prepared but without any special taste. The pizza (BLACK TRUFFLE AND FONTINA CHEESE) perfect taste but not crust as supposed to be, The Mercere Burguer, perfect but not to hot as supposed to be. The service and ambient is outstanding. The Knifes are not sufficient sharp. The table was instable what was rapid fixed by staff.

Usual unfriendly welcome - had to wait at the chaotic crowded bar because our group was missing someone and then when we were all gathered (on time) then had to wait another 20 minutes for our table. Food was then super late arriving, one item was missed off, and the kale salad would have been best avoided.

If you want to be treated badly by a bunch of catty women managing the reception, GO HERE! We arrived on time for our reservation and they told us to wait for 10 minutes although there were plenty of open tables. We asked why and one of the women whispered to her assistant to bring us to the 'communal table' smirking at us. This is unacceptable at a restaurant of this caliber.

I called to change my reservation to 830 (originally was 8pm) because I wasn't able to change it on the app. When I arrived at 825 they told me they never received my call and that my reservation was for 8pm. They changed it to 845 and then sat us around 915. After that service was slow. They had a whole section of the restaurant that was empty the entire time we were there (we left around 11pm). This is my second time to restaurant. The first time the service was great this time it was bad.

Our food was over the top delicious. We did have to wait about 25 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. Our entrees also took almost an hour to come out, but were definitely tasty when they arrived. Also, it's really, really loud so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone trying to have a quiet, intimate dinner. It's more of a high energy party scene with delicious food and drinks type of place.

I will never return to Mercer Kitchen and do not recommend it, which is unfortunate because I have been to other Jean George restaurants, where the food and service were impeccable. Mercer was simply a hot mess!\n\nI had reservations here on Saturday for a birthday dinner and wasn't seated until an hour later. Once we were finally seated, the management tried to smooth things over by giving us complimentary appetizers. This gesture was appreciated and I was hoping the rest of the experience would have improved, but it just continued to go downhill. We waited for over 30 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. When we received our meals two of my friends ordered the skate and the cod fish, but they were both given the sea bass. They informed the wait staff of this error and the wait staff seemed confused, so we informed the manager. The manager told us that they ran out of both the cod and skate fish so they replaced the dishes with the sea bass! First off, we should have been informed that the dishes we ordered were not available. Secondly, we should have been giving the opportunity to select another dish. Instead, the staff at a Mercer Kitchen tried to sneak my friends dishes they did not order! What an insult!! My friends ended up ordering the burger which seemed to be one of the better entrees. Other dishes were not executed well - the salmon was too salty, the lamb was dry and somehow Mercer Kitchen ran out of dough for pizza so my friends who ordered this had to wait even longer!\n\nThe service at Mercer was incompetent atbest. The managers were nonchalant about the disastrous service, which leads me to believe that this service is the norm for them.

The lighting is super lovely and the space has a romantic modern vibe.Unfortunately, the 2 of us were seated at a communal table, between two loud groups. Not ideal for our date. The sea bass carpaccio starter was delicious, as was my main fish entree, but my date's lamb chop entree was overcooked & so tiny (2 small chops), even I would have wanted to order 2 more. Dessert was delightful. Overall, I'd say come for a glass a wine and dessert, not necessarily to get full.

The food is as you would expect from a JG restaurant very tasty.\n\nThe service on the other hand was the absolute worst I have experienced in my life. \n\nOnce seated in took over 10 mins to get a good menu, but no wine list. It took 3 requests from our server to bring a wine list on the final request he came and ask if we were ready to order our entrees. I hadn't seen the wine list and hadn't ordered appetizers so no I wasn't! \n\nThe service declined steadily from there. White Wine was warm, server left it on table with no chiller. \n\nServer failed to check on us from the delivery of our entrees until I finally asked for the check. \n\nI ordered dessert from the food runner.

While the food was excellent, our server tonight was less than stellar. Perhaps one of the worst services I've had. We received water fairly promptly, and our server initially presented us with food and drink menus, but then he vanished for nearly 15 minutes. We closed our menus and both looked around for him, but did not see him. We then ordered drinks, and it took several more minutes for him to return and take the rest of the meal order. The food was good, but there was no check-in during the meal to verify this. So while I recommend the restaurant itself, get a different server, and hopefully you will enjoy a better experience.

Mercer Kitchen is geared towards an under-40 crowd. A bit loud. Food is good, but not great for a Jean-Georges restaurant. My main course of lamb chops was over cooked, so I felt they were partially cooked and then finished off before served. Restaurant wise: So my friend and I actually went there for Restaurant week on a Sunday night. And on their NYC restaurant week website, it clearly says they serve restaurant menu for Sunday dinner. But after we got seated, we were informed that they only serve restaurant week menu Mon-Fri. I felt like I got cheated. But I didn't want to ruin my night. So I stayed and ordered from the regular menu. Lesson learnt: always call the restaurant to confirm and don't entirely trust what they say on the website. But I hope the restaurant could fix that website mistake as soon as possible. Otherwise, I have to consider it as cheating customers. Again, this is not professional and indicates poor management.\n\nFood wise: 'ROASTED BABY BEETS with Goat Cheese' was perfect. 'ANGEL HAIR PASTA with Organic Mushrooms, Parmesan, and Herbs' was delicious. But I would say even tho the sauce and the mushroom were amazing, the pasta somehow was awfully sticky, which was really disappointing. I was literally able to pick up the entire plate of pasta with one easy lift...\n'CRAB CAKE' and 'STEAMED SHRIMP SALAD' were average, not impressive at all.

Terrible service. Left without eating.\nWe arrived at 8:47 for an 8:30 reservation because of train delays. They said our table had been given away and were told to wait at the bar. There were several tables empty and set in the restaurant. 2 people at the bar were given a table, but after 2-3 minutes said they would be more comfortable at the bar, and left the table. Then the hostess offered it to us. My dining partner sat at the banquette; the table was so low he could barely get his thighs under it. The woman at the next table told us, 'the food is great, but the service is terrible.' Having not been offered anything other than water, we decided not to celebrate a birthday dinner there and left without ordering.

I had eaten at Mercer Kitchen some time ago and recalled it as good. However, during my last visit I was surprised at the poor service and mediocre food. \n\nWhen we arrived, there was only one other table seated, yet they insisted on seating us next to the waitstaff station. Because it was slow, there was a group of servers who stood around chatting within inches of us through most of the meal. I had a problem hearing my dinner companion over them. \n\nThe food was ok - not as good as I remembered it. The fish was overcooked, and they brought out stale bread. Based on this experience, I do not plan on going back.

Couldn't sit until whole party arrived, standard, but annoying since there was a lot of traffic from the women's march that couldn't have been anticipated. Perched off to the left of the downstairs bar. \n\nBar is lively, drinks are great. Bartenders are fast once you get their attention. I would go here for a drink, not dinner. Not a lot of seats at the bar though beware. \n\nTo make a three person table they took a two person table on the end and added a chair. Not enough table space for 3 people. End person kept getting whacked by people walking by as the chair was literally in the middle of the walkway. Waiter was MIA for most of the meal should have been offered second drinks. Asked for the check instead of the dessert menu since we'd already been sitting a long time, got the dessert menu instead. Had to flag a bus boy down to get the bill, got the wrong bill. Got the right bill eventually. \n\nLentil soup tasted like bathwater, was kindly removed from the bill. Rest of the meal was a little pricey for what it was. Got veal and roast chicken. Veal was better. \n\nWould have like to sit in the area by the kitchens, but a large party had reserved the whole area. When checking in, I was told that was typical on the weekends.

It was one of the worst experiences we have ever had!!! We chose this restaurant because of the world's famous chef, Jean-George's name and good experience at his other restaurants. Despite of our reservation, we waited 30 minutes to be seated. The food was much below average, unsavory, and we had to return three dishes back to the kitchen. The service was very slow, waitresses didn't care about customers, inconsiderate. The space was overcrowded, too loud. The food looked cheap for it's price! It is not worth time and money at all! This was definitely a happening place, a restaurant you would see in movies. That being said if you don't like noisy restaurants this place is not the one for you. Also, the tables are somewhat close together so it was hard getting out for some of my friends without bumping into the tables beside us. \n\n\nService:\nThis is definitely not a place for a quick bite instead a good for a place for long conversations as it took about 45 minutes to 55 minutes for the food come out. It was nice though that the host gave us an update after we have been waiting for 35 minutes after having placed the order and told us that our food was coming soon and thanked us for patience. Waters were refilled with regularity. \n\nFood:\nRigatoni with Meatballs - 3/5 stars \n- was just alright, flavor and quality certainly did not justify its price (26$) \nSalmon - 4.5/5\n- cooked well, potatoes were season 12, sprouts were tasty\nChicken - 4/5\n- cooked well, green beans and carrots fine \nWarm Valrhona Chocolate Cake - 4.8/5\n- Cake was really lovely, loved the chocolate gooeyness inside, a bit stingy with the ice cream so the ratio was a little off \n\nWould return but would not order any pasta dishes. 4/5

The bread and olive + water were never offered to us although we saw all other tables being served\nWe ate the cold pizza and without any request the check was on the table...The waitress not even asked if we would like any desert or coffee...and when we asked for the coffee she looked at us as it was a crime...Well that's was my poor experience here

The restaurant is downstairs... didn't know that, so I stood at the door like an idiot, even though there were bartenders in the lounge above. They walked right by us and looked at us and just stared and didn't say anything... and then we got downstairs at 4:55 for our 5 pm reservation and the hostesses were just very rude. They weren't friendly and just overall rude and not accommodating. The tables were very small and the tables and chairs were very low to the ground. I am almost 6 ft and was very uncomfortable. Our waitress spoke very quietly and was very hard to hear. And it was so awkward when I ordered hot cider and a waiter, who obviously was new and in training, put down my cup in front of me and then the tenured waiter came and moved the cup even though it was fine to begin with. Overall, I thought the restaurant was fine, wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend. It was just average.

The overall feeling of hospitality was lacking in the entire restaurant: from the welcome upon entering the restaurant, to the hostess desk, bartender and even the table server. Everyone was going through the motions without consideration for the fact that without the customer, none of them would be working tonight. Three of our food items were wrong (sauce on side requested and never brought out for example) with one item delivered to the table not even ordered and no check in from service staff after entree delivery to make aware. Something was off entire night. We also witnessed customers being asked to sit at substandard tables with plenty of other tables open and available for seating. Each time until restaurant was busier the customers asked to move tables. Once again maybe the floor managers who spent their time talking to each other should have been paying better attention to what was happening to their guests that evening and finding a solution for these misplaced tables. The food that was delivered correctly was delicious but overshadowed by a ho-hum attitude.

To think that this is a Jean George's restaurant is absurd. The food is mediocre at best and nothing compared to his other establishments. The service very much caters to the SoHo tourist crowd who must have unlimited time to gawk over the cool aesthetic and fails to even refill water glasses that are more than necessary for the over-salted and uninspired food. This, on top of bizarre seating arrangements such as 3 to a small round table set on a bench truly provides an unpleasant dining experience.

The shrimp - arugula salad was good; shrimp were excellent and cooked perfectly. The fish and chips were a bit too doughy -- though the fried part was good, the fish were too mushy; the 'chips' were quarters of potatoes fried -- and I'd hoped for the little basket of French fries we saw put on near-by tables. Wine was good. No bread offered. Very noisy inside. I'd hoped for more ease of conversation, instead we leaned over the table and spoke in our outdoor voices.

If you've never been there's no way you'll know to go downstairs for the host. Once I got downstairs the hosts were friendly and I waited at the bar to be seated. I ordered a hot tea which was spilled on me by the busser then when being seated I had to carry my own tea pot and cup to the table. Once seated the waiter was polite but seemed like he was trying to up sell us instead of recommending something within the guidelines of our diets. We ordered appetizers which came out at the same exact time as our entree and he pretended like that was okay. No one wants they're appetizer with the burger. The bartender 'forgot' to give us back our change at the bar ($70 for a $52 bar bill) and had to retrieve it from the tip jar when we inquired. Our food was delivered to us cold and had to be sent back. Everything was tasty and we had a lovely table in the corner which was surprisingly quiet for such a noisy space. The evening was nice, but nothing to write home about which was disappointing because the last time I was there I enjoyed the meal much, much more. Their popularity seems to be fueled by reputation, not by experience. Next time I want a Jean Georges meal, I'm heading to Nougatine instead!

I used to love Mercer Kitchen but I guess the relationship is over! Had to wait 20 min to get the table I booked on OpenTable . The service was very slow and then we were rushed to finish our meal. The champagne glass was half full we had to return it. It was too loud and honestly I couldn't enjoy my meal as I had to ask the waiter not to take away my plate cause I was still working on it (3 times) . I am sorry Mercer Kitchen, I loved you, you were great to me but now the relationship is over. You will stay to be yet another tourist attraction that New Yorkers avoid !!!

Came here for my birthday and it was just amazing! My mouth still waters whenever I think about the black see bass carpaccio. Absolutely delicious! We made a reservation for a Monday night at 8:15 and we had to wait for 45 minutes for our table. The restaurant made up for it because they bought our first round of drinks, although we were further disappointed when we were told that the veal dish my wife and I ordered had run out, about 15 minutes after we ordered it. Alas, we ordered something else and the waiter comped one of our entrees. The restaurant was very busy and we understand the wait to a point, however we were disappointed about the fact that the restaurant ran out of our dish. Regardless, we would come back because the food is fantastic here although when they are busy be prepared to wait.

Went here with some friends to grab brunch. Gorgeous and large place, decor is amazing. The service was a little slow - they brought out the bread basket towards the end of the meal and it took me just about 15 minutes to be able to order some tea, but the staff was nothing but polite. The place is HUGE so I guess it's normal to wait a little.\n\n I wouldn't say it's pricey but it isn't cheap ($10 for mineral table for the water) but the food is quite excellent and for the ambiance it's worth it. The brunch itself tasted really great, the menu had just the right amount of variety to it. I felt full without feeling stuffed. All in all, we left pretty satisfied.

Mercer Kitchen is a must stop for me in SOHO. I just find the dinning room so comfortable and the food is consistently amazing. My mom and I recently tried their chicken and coconut milk soup and the lentil soup. Both were great but the chicken soup was amazing! It was light and refreshing with the perfect balance of acid. We also got the Mercer Burger which is my favorite. The flavors and textures on the burger make it a must have.

We had an amazing meal here yesterday. The burger is really the best around. Today was terrible. It took forever to get out meal, and my eggs Benedict was cold. Not lukewarm, cold. I sent it back and it came out with a hot plate and cold eggs once again. They must poach the eggs then hold them.y daughters pasts was hot but clearly under the lights for a long time - little crusty on the top and a puddle of grease in the bottom. My sons pasta was cold as was my husband's kimchi hot-dog. The wait and host staff was extremely apologetic, but I was really disappointed that they let the food come out this way then failed to ensure it was fixed when we sent one fish back.

First restaurant we visited in New York, as with all the popular NY restaurants we were sat on a very small table for two squeezed in between two other couples so space was at a premium. The service was good as it is at most high end restaurants in NY however the food was not what I would have expected when paying such a premium for dining. Starter was good but when you pay $24 for it you expect that, main of veal was quite average and for the cost I think there are better options in the city. The Mercer Kitchen will trade on its name but I am not convinced that a $200 meal was worth it at this venue.

I came for Thanksgiving with some family and was pretty disappointed for several reasons. I had never been here, but friends recommended it and I saw that they were offering a Thanksgiving prix fixe set menu. However -- My Open Table confirmation listed the Thanksgiving set menu as having 5 choices for the appetizer and 5 choices for the entree - the menu we ended up with had only 2 choices for each, and they were very limited unimaginative choices. Luckily, the a la carte menu was also available, but on Thanksgiving I like a good restaurant with a good prix fixe for the occasion. The restaurant is SO loud.... not just 'energetic' as they list here, but uncomfortably loud to where I had to shout to have a conversation with my own family on Thanksgiving. To make it worse, the waitress (not stellar by any means) talked SO softly that unless your ear was right next to her, you couldn't hear. I had to tell the table everything she was saying because she did not seem eager to go to each side of the table to be heard. \nAside from the noise and the disappointment of the prix fixe not being at all what Open Table included in my confirmation email (which I still have and have considered reporting to them):\n- When we walked in NO ONE greeted us. We had to guess that you have to walk downstairs and upon arriving at the desk, we had VERY chilly reception from the hosts.\n- We were seated at a communal table with others, without being asked if that was ok, and without any notice in the reservation that this would be the case. Especially on a holiday, it should be mentioned. \n- Bathrooms were unexpectedly dirty for a place that considers itself 'high-end'. \n- Sommelier was aggressive and wouldn't leave us alone. \n- Food was ultimately fine but nothing incredible that we couldn't have had elsewhere.\nOverall a very disappointing Thanksgiving dinner. Perhaps the restaurant just isn't good on holidays, but as my first experience there, I would not recommend it.

Was meant to be a special occasion dinner but I missed this 'something special' in this place. Were seated at the recently super popular 'common table' but didn't particularly enjoy it -- shame opentable doesn't ask if that's the preferred option. Neighbours were loud so we had to almost shout to enjoy our conversation. Appetizers took a long time, but wine took even longer - we were half way through by the time it arrived. We had a wonderful experience the first time we went to Mercer Kitchen. We were so excited to go back. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated upstairs by the front door. It was a cold windy day and each time that someone came in to the restaurant (which was quite frequent) there was a blast of cold air and cigarette smoke from the people smoking right outside the restaurant. Did not appreciate this and contributed to ruining our experience. There was a celebrity in the restaurant who took the complete attention of our waiter. This is the second time I have been to Mercer Kitchen, and unfortunately probably the last time. My mom and her friend were in NYC for just two days, and I suggested Mercer Kitchen because they wanted a cool restaurant downtown.\nOn the way to the restaurant, I called to let them know that we would be 10 min late to our 7:30 pm dinner because we were stuck in horrendous traffic. The first response I got was that our dinner was rescheduled to 9:30 pm that night. Needless to say, I was not okay with this, and the hostess stated again that we needed to hurry. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:40 pm, sat at our table, and did not order drinks until 8:00 pm. This is when the night started going very downhill. We ordered drinks at 8:00 pm and did not receive them until 8:30 pm. Yes, 30 minutes later. We saw the drinks sitting at the bear, asked a waiter to get them, and it took another 10 minutes while they continued to sit at the bar. We finally ordered our food, and to start we ordered calamari and a pizza to share. We got the pizza, and it came out ...unsliced. Just one big circle of dough and toppings. We didn't see the waiter for another 20 min, so my boyfriend had to cut the pizza himself. We asked the waiter if that is how they usually come out, and he said no and seemed surprised that it was served that way, explaining that it was probably just grabbed from the kitchen unfinished. Then the entrees came, 3 of us did not have forks (even after requesting them) so we took them from other tables. Three people ordered lobster- 2 normal, 1 without potatoes. Two came out with no potatoes, and one regular. The regular one went to my friend who ordered no potatoes, and the two who wanted potatoes decided not to request them since it had already taken forever to get our food. I was embarrassed because my mom and her friend had traveled so long so only be in NYC for two days. They were treating us to dinner and were very unsatisfied, and nothing was comped for us.

At the end of the meal, the server was taking payment from tables that had requested their bills after we had requested ours.\n\nI don't normally leave reviews, but I was really looking forward to our brunch. We left very disappointed.

We went for dinner on a Wednesday evening, November 2nd, 2016 at 7:30pm. The restaurant bar area was lively and the ambience was vibrant. We had reservations and were directed by friendly staff members to our table. It did not take long before water was offered, along with crusty bread, condiments and menus. Cocktails were ordered, and even wine tasting and recommendations by the server were very helpful. The food delivered to the table was hot , nicely presented, and met our expectations. My wife enjoyed the Veal Milanese that she had ordered and I had the Mercer Burger (which was delicious). Prices, both for food and wine, though not cheap, were in line with what I expected for this trendy brasserie style restaurant.

It took ages to take our drink order, the waiter didn't know what the the various items on the menu were, he didn't clean the table of starter plates or bring fresh cutlery for the mains. Two out of four of the mains were too spicy to eat without warning. One of the mains was completely wrong and had to be sent back. We arrived early for Sunday brunch at 11, and had the entire place to ourselves. I don't know what the experience would be like when it is massively crowded, but even so the food is worth it. The Black Sea Bass carpaccio was outstanding, as was the lamb, crab and every small plate or 'for the table' plate we tried. Really excellent. My only sadness was the coffee - wretched! However, I'll be returning, and very happily.

The restaurant itself was great, good service, attentive to our time constraints for a play, several different people were serving us (high touch) and the food was excellent. The noise overall was very loud coming in and leaving the restaurant and also while we were seated causing us to have to yell to each other to carry a conversation. The Mercer Kitchen is a short walk from our new apartment, and we will definitely come again. There is a youthful vibe among the clientele, as well as the staff. We enjoyed the crispy squid appetizer as well as the kabocha squash bruschetta. My hake over maple syrup celeriac puree with vinergary onion shards went down easily; one of my companions enjoyed veal milanese, generously portioned and crispy, and the other's tuna tartare with wasabe pizza was delightfully original. The almond sorbet that came with the pear dessert was especially noteworthy. We hope to return soon.

We visited for my husband's 33rd birthday. Upon arriving we were a little confused as there is a bar upstairs but the restaurant is downstairs. Unless I missed a sign walking in, we had to ask an employee passing by which was Mercer Kitchen. We showed up 10 minutes early and our table was not ready so we grabbed a drink at the bar. We were sat very soon after that at a nice corner booth table that had a view of most of the restaurant. We ordered an appetizer (shrimp cocktail) that was very good and then our entrees. I had rigatoni with meatballs, which they offered to use regular marinara sauce instead of the spicy sauce it came with and my husband had smoked salmon. Both of our meals were good, not amazing but pretty good. I feel the portions were a bit smaller than I had hoped but still pretty reasonable. We also ordered a dessert ( brownie-something) which came with a lit birthday candle on the side of the plate (I made note on the reservation we were celebrating a birthday). As the evening progressed, the restaurant became more and more crowed. It was exciting to see many people filing into the restaurant for dinner and drinks on a Friday night. All in all, we had a very nice dinner. It was the first time as this restaurant for the us both and while I'm not sure we'd go back (there are SO many restaurants in NYC to experience), we would recommend this to friends that are looking for a nice dinner in the SoHo area!

My husband and I had dinner at Mercer Kitchen tonight. With two young children, it is a special occasion when we are able to go out, so we were really looking forward to this dinner. It was not my first time at Mercer Kitchen and I am a big fan of Jean-Georges. The food was outstanding, cocktails delicious, and service was great, but the ambiance is so bad that by the time the appetizer arrived, the dining experience had become almost intolerable. For whatever reason, we were given a table right near the bar, so it was high trafficked, with people standing and yelling near to our table, and in general highly unpleasant. We basically had them box up our entrees after a few bites so we could leave. Although the food was great, I would not return nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone because the experience of paying that kind of money for a special night out is seriously marred by the crappy 'ambiance.' I am shocked that with a reservation, we would be given such a terrible table. I actually read a similar review of Mercer Kitchen prior to going there but regrettably did not heed the warning.

I've never been to a restaurant where it takes 15 minutes for someone to bring you a menu and water. It took another 15 minutes for someone to take our order and the first course took 15 minutes to arrive at the table which was oysters and shrimp cocktail, no idea why that takes 15 minutes. When our first course was served, I asked cornbread for the table in which I was told it's only offered if I requested it. I then said, well I am hereby requesting bread for the table since I've had to wait 45 minutes already for this first course. Someone came over to apologize, our two mains were served, then followed by an apology from our server. Mind you, the bread never made it to the table. I assumed asking for the check would be another 15 minutes which of course it did. 2 hours later and a crappy shrimp cocktail appetizer for $24 that tasted freshly defrosted? How disappointing of an experience for me to take my father to dinner on a Monday evening.

Although we had a reservation, we waited a half hour to be seated. We then waited another 15 minutes until we were acknowledged. The food was barely passable. Crab fritters were flavorless, and the lentil 'soup' was more like lentil 'broth.' We liked the white bean dip, but California Pizza Kitchen makes a better one. The steamed shrimp in my salad were delicious, but the greens were slimy and so salty. My husband's ravioli dish was pretty much inedible. Again, WAY too much salt. While I appreciate it, i wish they had taken the time to acknowledge my food or and add suggestions instead of going 'another round...'; Nonetheless, i recommend almost every appetizer on the menu. The sashimi is so fresh and had deep fried rice for textures. We also had an amazing cured cheese dish which was to die for. My skate was prepared so nicely, and i love that skate was on the menu. I had made a reservation on open table for 4 people at 8:00pm on the night before. Immediately after making the reservation the restaurant called to confirm it. When we showed up at 8 last night I was told that my reservation was only made for two people but if we went and had a drink at the bar he would get us seated as quickly as possible. After about 15min I went back to check on the eta and the maitre d' told me he'd come back and let me know in 3 min. I told him that someone had called to confirm and I showed him my open table confirmation. He said that there was nothing he could do. They were busy and the reservation only came in as 2 people. He never came back to give me an ETA. After about 40 min I went back to ask again and this time there was a different gentleman there who said that I did have a reservation for 4 people at 8pm and there was a table ready now if I wanted it. I found the small bald man with glasses I had first spoken to and asked him about the mixup. Instead of apologizing and admitting a mistake he lied to my face and said that he knew I had a reservation for four, never said it was for two people, and me talking to him was delaying my table getting ready. We were then seated at a table which had been open THE ENTIRE TIME! \nNow, of course the food was fantastic as always and the table service was great, but the lead up to this meal left a bad taste in all our mouths. Tragically this place may have become too hip for it's own good and the small bald man at front of house has got to go. I would consider many other places in this neighborhood before returning.

our reservation time was completely ignored .\nthey loved us to bar to wait then suggested a semi table upstairs which was the worst table in the house. we refused, host made us wait again then ' found' the perfect table for two that was ready for some other guests,\n\nwe were seated- then waited another 20 minutes for server to show up. when he did - poor guy had no voice. as we were booking another table at another restaurant, server promised to help us. \nmeal was tasty but it was an ordeal.

The wine and beverage menu was wonderful and the baked olive appetizer = divine. Our main dishes were a little disappointing, the halibut was over cooked and lacking in flavor and the seabass - was just 'ok'. \n\nI think we will go back for the vibe - but maybe just for drinks and appetizers - it's right in the heart of where we want to be in Sodo

Mercer Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Its chic atmosphere and ambiance are authentically new yorker style with that sex and the city appeal. I have been several times to Mercer Kitchen in the past, but never experienced a total disaster like this last Saturday. We made a group reservation for 9.30 PM and all arrived around 9.20 PM. It took more than half an hour to get the table ready. When finally at the table, one guest ordered a cocktail, which took about 45 min to arrive. There was a lack of inventory (wine, no lamb chops etc). Too many other things went wrong as well.\nWhen asked for the manager to complain about these issues, nobody took responsibility to make things better, it just got worse. In the end we decided to leave and the general manager still tried to change our minds. However the harm was done and we ended up having a wonderful dinner at another restaurant.

The waitress never checked to see if everything was okay. Our water glasses were empty for most of the meal. When I arrived I was told to go downstairs since I already had a reservation. As I made my way downstairs, I became a bit annoyed by how noisy the place was granted it was full of people but very noisy. I have to say this was a turnoff for me in the beginning I hate going to do you know where you have to basically yell across the table for someone to hear you. My girlfriend feel the same way luckily there was a table open upstairs where we were able to sit. Once we made our food choices it didn't take long for the food to arrive to the table. I have to say the food was delicious. I would definitely go back to this place for dinner or brunch but would definitely request a table upstairs for a quiet more intimate setting .

I ate here during restaurant week with my boyfriend, excited to try out a Jean Georges restaurant, but left quite disappointed. The choices for each course were not that exciting, and the food was just okay. My entree, a 'crispy' skate, was too heavily fried and lacked much flavor. It sat on top of overcooked, mushy mushrooms. To be fair, my boyfriend's entree, the burger, was quite good. However, both of our appetizers (a pizza and potato soup) were just average. Dessert, again, was just okay. We were very disappointed that the 3-course options were very basic, whereas the traditional menu is much more creative.\n\nOutside of the average food itself, the service was incredibly rushed. To be fair, it was quite attentive, good service, but it was extremely apparent that they were rushing every one of our courses, and the bus boy was constantly leaning in to see if we were done so our plates could be removed to make room for the next course. On top of it all, the tables were so close that the couples on either side of us were about 10' away - and their food was just as rushed as ours. We sat down at 7:10pm and were out of there by 8:10pm due to being rushed.\n\nIf restaurant week is supposed to draw in new customers, they definitely lost 2 potential new customers.

Unfortunately, my first visit to Mercer Kitchen was not a good one. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted right away and our table was ready on time. We met our server who from the beginning seemed as if he was trying to rush us out by telling us that we should time our ordering of drinks because the bar gets backed up and there could be a long wait for a second drink. Really? There were less than 6 people at the bar. Then after getting menus, we were afforded about 2 minutes to decide what we were going to eat so we put in an appetizer and asked him to come back so we could decide on dinner. The crispy calamari with sweet chili dipping sauce was anything but crispy. It was soggy actually. The dipping sauce was very good, but that did not make up for soggy calamari, which was not hot. We ordered the pork chop wrapped in prosciutto and lamb chops. Both were good, but again, more room temperature than hot. Halfway through our meal with still plenty of food on our plates, someone came over and asked if we were done and could they take our plates. After we said no, we were just talking and taking a break, about 3 minutes later, the same person came over and asked us again if we were done. When we were done, we ordered dessert - sour cream cheese cake - which was very good. After the check was left on our table with the usual 'take your time, whenever you are ready', we were still drinking coffee and the server came over three different times to see if we had taken care of the check. The restaurant was not full, there were not people waiting for tables so I could not understand why there was such a rush. I was very disappointed in my first experience and I am not sure I will be returning. The restaurant was recommended to us and hopefully, it was just an off night.

Mercer Kitchen in Soho, New York City has always been one of our go to restaurants for lunch when we are in the area. I normally enjoy the delicious shrimp salad because it has a wonderful homemade dressing. However, on this occasion, I ordered the spring pea soup and a Mercer Burger. The pea soup was flavorful and delicious. It was a hot soup, and the peas were fresh. However, the burger was so salty that I was thirsty for the entire day after I ate It. I was surprised when I could get a same-day Saturday night reservation here, but now I know why. Worst service I've had in years - I was extremely disappointed by my experience. I have celiac disease and we ordered 2 appetizers and a main to split from the gluten free menu. We waited at least 45 minutes for our appetizers, to find that the food all arrived at once (odd). We were asked multiple times if we were finished (with half the food still on the plates and in the middle of eating). I was delivered a meal I ordered from the gluten-free menu to find that they used regular bread - and I found out only after I asked two servers. As someone with celiac disease this is extremely dangerous for me. They didn't even offer to comp part of our meal, when we had to wait half an hour for a new one to be made. Will never go back.

My husband and I come to Mercer Kitchen for lunch 2-3 times a week, since we own a production studio 2 blocks down. The food is great, it's consistent and never disappoints, especially if you want to please your high profile guests or clients.\n\nWe had to work today (Sun, Aug 28th), so I made a brunch reservation and was very excited about it. We arrived 10 min. earlier and were asked to wait at the bar, which was expected, since it's always busy on weekends. We were invited to sit down 15 min. later. The hostess was very kind and even let us pick our table. When we sat down, the waiter asked for our water choice and then disappeared. My husband had to call him over to take our order. We didn't get any attention from him besides that, he seemed disengaged and distracted. We ordered oysters to start, I asked for a salad and my husband ordered a hot dog. By the time the oysters arrived, no silverware or bread were at the table, neither we got refills for our water and drinks. I had to get up and look for a busboy to accommodate us. Over an hour after we were seated, we still didn't get our meals, although the 2 couples who arrived after us were finished and got their checks. I eventually found the waiter and asked him to check on our order and was told it would be at the table in a few minutes. 10 min. later, still hungry and frustrated, we decided to leave. Not only we had a bad brunch experience, it also ruined our Sunday plans since we wasted an hour waiting and had to look for another place to have a meal.\n\nWe both are huge fans of chief JG Vongerichten, and have been coming to his restaurants here in NY (the Nougatine is one of our favorite spots in NY, and it's conveniently located across the street from our apartment on UWS) and in Canada, when we visit our offices there. This is why it's been extremely disappointing to lose a place we enjoyed coming for years due to bad service and lack of attention from personnel.\n\nThank you very much for your attention.

Horrified to order 2 kids mojitos to be charged $22 for them. Basically ginger ale with some mint added. Food disappointing, my salmon was way too acidic and bones were not removed. Burgers were disappointing with packet squares of cheese on them. Prosciutto wrapped pork roll was very good.

We went to Mercer kitchen for a business meal. The food and service are excellent. I would recommend asking for a seat away from the kitchen if you prefer something quiet. While the open concept kitchen is unique, it can be noisy. \n\nOverall I would definitely come back for a special occasion; the basil gin martini was enjoyed by all as well as the sashimi salmon over crispy rice.

We chose the place for a dinner for 2 after reading reviews and liking the extensive small plate menu. Although the setting is interesting (basement level, exposed brickwork), the food was uneven. The ricotta/squash toast and salmon sushi over crispy rice were quite good, as was the (overpriced) kale salad. Service was unexpectedly poor due to overcrowded room with limited staff. Our waitress at one point yelled over our head for glasses to be filled with water!!! Many people around us had to wait interminable times for drinks and checks. Staff knows very little about their wines and the sommelier left at 5pm (on a Saturday night). The manager however was available (while he was waiting tables!!) and was spot on with his recommendations - however 15 mins waiting for a glass of wine is unacceptable. There are many equally vibrant restaurants nearby (Lure and others) so I recommend skipping this one.

Went on a recommendation for my birthday dinner. VERY disappointing experience! Made reservations for 8pm and they wanted to seat (3) of us at a tiny table bottom of stairs middle of walkway. Granted request for new table, but not gracious or understanding. Our waiter greeted us with a grouchy face and never smiled the entire evening. He never checked on us after we received our meal, which was very fast. It was like they couldn't wait to turn the table over! Horrible service and the food was NOT as anticipated. I had the veal, which was fried (not listed on menu) and my husband had the shrimp special, with 5 small shrimp over greens. Gave him 1/2 of mine! HIGHLY overrated!!! I did mention our experience to the manager at at the end of the meal. Perhaps our server should have stayed home to pout instead of showing up to work! Spend your money elsewhere!!

We were seated promptly, but had to ask the hostess twice before a server arrived almost 30 minutes later (with no apology). The restaurant was only half full, so hard to understand the poor service and lack of care. And when we finally did receive our food, it was nothing to rave about. Lots of other great places to choose from in NYC.

I invited 4 clients to a lunch at Mercer Kitchen and their response was favorable out of the gates. The restaurant is located in a vibrant part of Soho. Whereas most restaurants in the Financial District or Midtown feel very corporate, Mercer Kitchen offers a relaxed and hip environment. The dining room is underground and we sat underneath the glass sidewalk, which is a unique feature. One can see the feet of passerbys walking the artsy streets above. We started the meal with a few appetizers. Mercer Kitchen has a good offering for this. The wine list is also strong. All enjoyed their entrees very much. The restaurant offers a very attractive prix fixe menu, which would be an economical option not just for budget-conscious corporate lunches, but also for visiting tourists.

May be we were just in the wrong mood for this place (dinner with the missus), but kind of disappointed in the Restaurant week menu and ambience.\nStarters were great (beet salad and mini-pizza), but the mains just felt average and kind of inedible. Chicken and Skate were both heavily salty. I gave up less than half way through the Chicken, tasted watery and the side dish of greens were too bitter to eat.\nIt was like a restaurant/club. Probably great for groups and if you were on the regular menu. But we weren't drinking much and wanted to taste some interesting food, in that it kind of failed. It felt hard to hold a conversation because of the noise and bustle, and felt very much like we were being rushed through our meal. Staff were extremely nice, it just felt like a fast-turnover kind of place.\n\nMaybe I'll hammer down beers beforehand and head there with the lads next time.

Extremely poor experience with my family of 5 for my wife's birthday. I've heard how great mercer kitchen is but I'm not sure why. First of all its rated as a $$ restaurant and it's far from that. I can afford $$$ and $$$$ restaurants but specifically were looking for $$ options tonight. 5 drinks at the bar were $100 before we even sat down. My wife asked if they had a sparkling rose' and they did but no one mentioned it was $29 for one glass. A little ridiculous. We were seated at two small round bar tables. 3 in our group were 6'2' and taller. No thought was given to this and their knees were literally pushing the tables up. We asked to be moved and they accommodated but it took 25 minutes. \n\nOur wait staff was awful. Barely checked on us. We bought bottles of Prosecco and they kept them at a separate table and it was close to impossible to find someone to come over and fill our glasses when empty. Our water glasses were never filled either unless we begged. \n\nWe had to grab plates off a table at one point as appetizers were delivered with no plates and no one came around to check on us. \n\nAt one point we had no waitress for 20 minutes. We asked two people to find her. No one could. All of a sudden we had someone new as if our person quit or for fired in the middle of the shift \n\nThe food was good, not great. The service was awful and for 5 people dinner was $360 plus tip plus the $100 at the bar and we did NOT drink a lot and did not get dessert as my wife couldn't wait to leave. \n\nThanks mercer kitchen for ruining my wife's birthday.

While our service was timely once seated, I actually felt a bit rushed. Our server was efficient, but got a very cold vibe from most of staff. We were shocked by the poor service we received at this recent visit to Mercer Kitchen. We asked to speak with the sommelier only to learn that he/she had gone home (at 7pm on a Saturday). We asked for recommendations on white wine (specifically not chardonnay). Instead, we got recommendations for two bottles of red wine. We selected our own bottle of white wine. We had our entrees for more than 10 minutes before our bottle of wine arrived, only to learn they did not have the bottle we ordered. Instead they brought us a bottle of chardonnay despite our request for any bottle of white wine that was NOT chardonnay. After we ordered our dessert and the menus had been cleared, we asked to order dessert wine only to be told it 'that was on the dessert menu.' We were allowed to order dessert wine after all, only to have it show up after our desserts had been finished and cleared away.\n\nWe were shocked by this consistently poor service and even more shocked that no apology was offered. Both of my guests had flown to New York for the weekend and this dinner was supposed to be the high moment of the weekend, not the lowest.

Food was very good but nothing special—generally each plate was conventionally prepared but well-cooked. Service was excellent. The entire meal was surprisingly expensive. Yes, the plates seemed undeservedly pricey, but the bulk of the bill was our drinks, which included wine and cocktails, which were very light on the alcohol making it nearly imperceptible to taste. (When you see that a typical Mercer's non-alcoholic cocktail costs $11, you'll understand why they don't need to put alcohol in your drink!) The meal was overshadowed by the uncomfortableness of the seating for our party of three: a tiny round table with a fat center post which prevented all of us from having our feet under the table at once; uncomfortably curved banquets supplanted with low chairs with leaned backs that were not meant for dining. Word to parties of three: Request seating at a 4-table to avoid the discomfort!

This was my first time at Mercer Kitchen and it was quite enjoyable. The appetizer pizza with goat cheese and proscuitto and peaches was excellent and filling. I ordered the shrimp entree with snow peas but although it was tasty, it was not as filling as the appetizer. The entree came before we finished our appetizers and we were a little rushed to finish as the entrees were sitting there waiting for us. However, the experience was enjoyable and I would go again.

Was a great spot for lunch. Enjoyed sharing the black truffle and fontina cheese pizza and calamari as appetizers. Enjoyed the fried fish sandwich, turkey burger and lamb sandwich. The madeline cookies were bite size and a great choice for a sharing dessert. A large selection of options for sharing which is nice for a group. Definite place to repeat.

ambience was good, but the food was just so-so, definitely not worth the price. We order eggs benedict and a Mercer burger, none of them were satisfying. The sauce of eggs benedict was not good, and the muffin was not even toasted. Can you imagine that there are two pieces of untoasted muffin which has nothing to do with fluffy in a $22 eggs benedict?! Anyway, the ambience was good, decoration style was my type, but as a restaurant, it is not what I expected.

Make sure you check the meat before you eat it. I eat through most of the burger to realize it was red in the middle. It's very dark I. The restaurant so unless you turn on the flashlight from your phone, there is no way to tell. I told the waiter, who then informed the manager. They offers a dessert on them. I expected more from a restaurant with that reputation. I also let the manager know that having to pay for a stomach ache in the middle of the night was very disappointing.

My mom and I ate here when she was visiting. When we were seated, the waitress indicated they had no bottle wine lists and we needed to order a bottle of the 'by the glass' options, which was fine. We ordered 5 dishes, all of which were unexceptional except the bass carpaccio which was delicious. We sent the artichoke back to the kitchen as it was cold (not ambient, cold) and full of water. We were told this was the way it was always served, but I reiterated that we didn't want to eat it. Octopus was inoffensive but bland and a pretty bland remoulade accompaniment. \n\nWe ordered carrot cake for dessert, which was fine, if dense and a bit dry. The strangest was when we ordered martinis which we were served in small tumbler glasses and contained no more than 1.5 ounce of liquid. I asked why the pour was so light and the runner indicated that 'someone broke all (their) martini glasses'. This was the smallest martini I've ever been served (albeit a delicious one). I asked the waitress to remedy this and she brought be a shot of vodka to add to the drink. A strange solution, but at this point we were sick of 'bothering' her with issues from the bar and kitchen. \n\nWould not return, would not recommend for natives or tourists.

We've enjoyed Mercer Kitchen in the past, but don't plan to return soon after the terrible service we received at brunch today. I called the restaurant to advise them that we were stuck in traffic and would be 15 minutes late for our 1:30 reservation. I was not informed that this would be a problem. When we arrived shortly afterwards, our table had been given to someone else, and we were told that we'd have to wait about 20 minutes. This was disappointing--especially given the cramped quarters--but understandable at a peak time, and in fairness, we were seated within 20 or 25 minutes. The shared appetizer (delicious salmon on crispy rice) arrived promptly, yet 45 minutes later, there was no sign of our entrees. Patrons who were seated much later had received theirs. When close to an hour had passed and we couldn't find our waitress, my husband approached the hostess. Suddenly two of our entrees appeared. A few minutes later, the third was delivered. No one apologized for or explained the delay. The food is fine, often really good, but the lengthy waits limited what we could do for the remainder of the afternoon. We arrived at 1:45 and although we ate quickly once we had our entrees, we didn't leave until nearly 4:00. This is unacceptable, especially for pricey brunch. Mercer Kitchen is lively and can be fun, but the restaurant needs to realize that there are plenty of other options in SoHo. We won't be back.

Let me preface this by saying, I have dined at The Mercer Kitchen several times - sometimes in big parties enjoying a the cozy communal table near the kitchen with a HUGE group of friends - or even tucked away at the bar or just for a quick bite between shopping trips. When I made my reservation this past weekend for brunch I was 1,000% ill-prepared for the deluge of bad service, bad food and poor treatment. It pains me to say it because I'm such a fan of the space and have been trying to stave off any severe disappointment - but honestly, it was such a bad experience that I really can't see myself going back. My friend an I were sat at a 2 top - we were excited to have a nice civilized brunch and to catch up over a few mid-morning cocktails and delicious food. Our waiter was attentive at the beginning, but soon became overwhelmed and we had to flag down the floor managers to ask about getting drinks, and a coffee that seemed to be ordered 4-5 times before it materialized. The real issue was the span of time between the starter that we ordered and our actual food arriving. We sat there for nearly an hour while people around us, who had been seated 20-30 minutes after we arrived were being served their salads and sandwiches and eggs etc. I WAS STARVING. Each time the floor manager scooted by our table we asked (as politely as a Hangry man can after waiting so long) to check on our order - noting that we were surrounded by guests that were being served mere minutes after being sat, while we could scarcely get them to bring over a smidge of bread. We were told at least twice that our 'food was on the way'... By the time it arrived, I literally had to laugh out loud at the complete disaster that was my plate. The avocado-salmon on toast was the size of a post-it, and positioned on two charred, black pieces of wheat toast. I literally shrieked when I saw it - and pointed it out to the waiter who just looked at me in defeat, like... 'Oh well'

I have been to Mercer Kitchen several times - the location is convenient to where I live and the food is good. But this sadly almost gets eclipsed by my frustration that they regularly keep you waiting 20-plus minutes for a reservation, no apologies (most recently it was almost 40 minutes - and I'd made my 8:30 reservation at about 7:45, so query why they made the time slot available if they didn't have the table). The bar is uncomfortable and not set up for waiting - it's in a high traffic area with servers barreling through so you're constantly having to move and getting pushed up on by other patrons. And as I'm pregnant, I can't even have a martini to dull the aggravation during the inevitable wait! Once you can finally get your seat, the experience is a good one, but I may be rethinking how frequently I go there, as I might have reached my breaking point with the waiting.

My experience was not great. I had made a reservation for 5 people over 24 hours in advance and upon arrival, the hostess directed us to a four-top where they began squeezing in a fifth place setting. I asked if we could move to an appropriately sized table for our party, and the answer I received was that this was how they accommodate parties of 5, and that they hadn't had time yet to set the table. This was at 11:45am on a Saturday for brunch, and most of the restaurant was still empty. We could have easily been seated at a more appropriately sized table that went unused the entire time we were there.\n\nWhile the restaurant is beautiful, the service was disappointing , despite it being staffed by an army of attendants. One member of our party ordered the Belgian waffle which arrived to the table rock hard and was inedible. While they removed this from out bill, when you're charging $18 for a simple waffle, it should be perfection. One of the additional requests for coffee we made never arrived, despite it being put on our bill, and while this was also removed after pointing out the error, it speaks to the level of disappointing service we received. \n\nIn addition, the servers that were assigned to clearing our table seemed to hover over us, and I was asked so many times by one of them if I was done eating, I finally told him to just take my plate away out of frustration. \n\nWhile I had high hopes for a great brunch experience, I will not be going back. Ever.

We ordered an appetizer and entree, but the entrees came out literally 2 minutes after the appetizer did. We had barely touched it by the time the entree came out. Also, for a place that charges so much, it was incredibly frustrating to see the hostess seat a couple that did not even come close to the 'smart casual' dress code. A sports bra and spandex shorts are not totally appropriate for a place that will easily cost me $100 for dinner.

Fabulous restaraunt in a fabulous area. Loved the decor and the upstairs bar layout is lovely. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and great food. Would definitely head back when in the city again. Vibrant, buzzing hot spot, definite must!

Despite good reviews, our overall dining experience at this restaurant was very poor. We were a party of three and they sat us at a tiny table that accommodated one person in the bar area. It was extremely loud, and the waiters could not get by to distribute the food. The table was so small they had to take away the bread plates to put down the entrées. Before we were seated, I tried to explain to the manager that this table would be too small, but he was nonresponsive and really not interested. We left before dessert because our whole dining experience was so unpleasant.

Place was an overpriced tourist-trap dumpster fire of a restaurant. Food sucked, zero presentation, ingredients were low quality and food was generally bland and unexciting. Total bait and switch. Make it look like a trendy soho spot and charge the prices one would expect at such a place, but without any of the quality. Stay away!

My first meal here was excellent, which prompted me to come back a couple weeks later with a friend who was in town from Chicago. Unfortunately, my second meal here was awful. The kale salad tasted entirely different than it did a couple weeks ago and it was terrible. The service also was awful - we didn't know who our wait staff person was and everything took forever, despite our reservation being at 6:30 PM.

We went on a Saturday night, and although noisy, the service was friendly and efficient and the food was great. We had cocktails which were fabulous, and although it was busy we had our server's attention whenever we wanted it. The salmon sashimi was wonderful, and the roast chicken succulent. They do a great burger too. A really fun evening and we weren't rushed out after our meal which was a nice surprise. \n\nGreat for people watching and a fabulous NYC vibe.

Large, very attractive restaurant, though not 'cozy,' if that's your thing. Staff was very pleasant. Servers were great from start to finish. One oddity was that we were told that there was only one bartender working, so drinks would take a while. The food was generally excellent. The white bean dip was delicious. The sashimi salmon (as an appetizer) is not to be missed - just phenomenal! The tuna spring roll was also excellent. The slow-baked salmon was also fantastic, and the roast chicken was of superb quality, though perhaps a bit bland. The tasty warm chocolate cake, while apparently standard at all Jean Georges restaurants after introducing it to this country, has now been outdone by many other restaurants, as it is really too small and flat - too small to share. The wine list should include a few more 'reasonably priced' options. The noise level is a bit too high. But overall, an excellent experience - highly recommended for a special occasion.

I booked a table the same day, and there was no problem. Very central spot on Prince St. in SoHo. The food prices were reasonable for SoHo (most main dishes between $23 and $35). Drinks reasonable too for SoHo (wine started at $9, beers started at $9). The food WAS good. Our table was not in the best spot. It was near the waiters, and as a result, the waiters seemed to hover a bit. Service was swift. The crowd was a bit poseur-y, but then, this is Prince St. What do you expect. The other diners left us alone, and the place was not crowded in the middle of the week at 6. I would definitely go back for the food, and the location, near the Angelika cinema.

Firstly, took 30 minutes to receive a drink. Finally, ordered an appetizer to share and two main courses, within ten minutes main course arrived before appetizer. Main courses were sent back. Then, appetizer arrives and within the next ten minutes entrees are back. Awkwardly we accepted the entrees as we felt bad sending them back for the second time. Our main course got cold as we rushed to finish an appetizer. Inexcusable service for an expensive meal. Food and service has gone way down hill. Extremely disappointed in Mercer Kitchen. I definitely will never recommend this to a friend and certainly will not be back.

While we were 15 minutes late for our 6:45 reservation, we called to let them know we were running behind. They said no problem, we’ll see you in a few minutes. When we arrived, the place was packed. When we set up the reservation, I specifically asked for a quiet table or booth as I have a severe hearing impediment and loud rooms are an issue for me. They seated us at this 2 top that seemed like an afterthought as it was next to a pole and very close to the server station. Ok, I get it - we were late for our reservation, and you’re letting us know it.\n\nWe ordered drinks and our appetizer - the Peekytoe Crab Fritters, and also ordered our Mains - my wife ordered Lobster, and I ordered the Ribeye. The whole reason for dining here was it came on a recommendation from a very close friend - “Eat there, you’ll love it.” - so we decided to give it a go. Big mistake…\n\nThe Crab Fritters were the highlight of the whole meal. I ordered my Ribeye Medium and it was served more like mid-well to well done. My wife’s lobster, while the presentation was great, was chewy - kind of like bad bubblegum. We then looked at the desert menu and decided to split the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. Best part of it was the Ice Cream - the cake itself was akin to the Lava cakes you order from Domino’s Pizza (not what you’d expect in a high end establishment).\n\nThe whole experience could have been saved by the service - except we seemed to be a nuisance to our server. We would have commented to him about the quality of our meals, but he was too busy to check in with us. My empty beer glass did not catch his attention (caught the server assistant’s as he removed my empty glass) I had to literally reach out and flag him down to get a second round for for us. \n\nWe dropped $200 + tip and am beyond disappointed with our experience. Will not recommend to anyone or try again. Shoulda’ had the burger…

To be honest we were really excited and looking forward to our visit to Mercer Kitchen during our holiday to New York. It was our 1st night in New York and booked the Mercer Kitchen thinking it was going to be superb!\n\nUpon arrival everything seemed really promising - went downstairs to be greeted by front of house and jackets were taken however, the table that we were taken to was right next to the very busy (Thursday night) bar where everyone was gathered having pre-dinner drinks. We didn't say anything at the time but, in hindsight probably should have. We were also squeezed into the corner in between a massive table of 6 and another table of 2. In my opinion the space was really only fit for one table of 4/6.\n\nThis was the main issue as it created a nightmare for the waiting staff to serve our table as well as the other tables getting in and out and ourselves if we needed to get to the bathroom.\n\nThe food/drinks were okay but, I am sure hey would have been much better if the above was not the issue.\n\nOverall pretty disappointed and probably wouldn't recommend.

While there was nothing specifically wrong with either of our meals, the whole thing felt very 'thrown together' with little care and attention to the food. Grossly overpriced for what you get and really underwhelming flavours and presentation. The Veal came as two large pieces of schnitzel on a bed of peas and was not a complete dish on its own. Quite honestly nothing that couldn't have been purchased at a deli. The cocktails were also bland and without any depth of flavour or attention to sweet/sour ratios. Would most likely not return.

What really distressed me and my dining companion (who thought she had the best hamburger ever, so she was happy with the food) was that in a huge empty restaurant, we were seated by the bar area, which was loud noisy and encroaching on our table. Went here for brunch and I have to say, the apple French toast is my new favorite brunch in the city. Absolutely incredible. The architecture is just gorgeous--lots of brick archways and curved doors--and the atmosphere was great. \n\nThere were two drawbacks, however. First, these people clearly want you to leave as soon as possible. Even though we made a reservation, the staff just kept projecting this vibe of 'GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT.' I'm not sure why, as we were reasonably well-dressed, could clearly pay for our food, and seemed to fit in with the crowd, plus there were still some empty tables. It's not like we stood out or were tying up space. We ordered drinks and brunch and felt pressured to eat as fast as we could. We timed the whole thing - total time from being seated to receiving our check was just 27 minutes! A note to the staff- please stop pushing and let us actually enjoy the delicious food we're paying for! \n\nThe second drawback was my drink. I was pleasantly surprised to see three non-alcoholic mixed drinks on the menu and ordered the fruit punch, but it was incredibly spicy! Neither one of us could choke down more than a sip. I know a lot of people love spice, but it would be nice to have known that it had such a strong bite to it before I ordered. Spice isn't something you expect in a fruity drink. Just making note of it on the menu would have been nice.

We took my parents here for brunch to celebrate their 40th Anniversay. It started out bad from the beginning, after checking in with the hostess we waited 15 minutes to be seated despite 90% of the tables being available and watching 4 groups that had checked in after us get seated. It was apparent that they were not ready for customers at 11am for Sunday brunch as the staff was scrambling. After being seated and giving our orders for coffee, we then waited 40 minutes for the coffee arrived, despite bringing it up to the waitress multiple times, it was only after contacting the manager who had to go get the coffee himself did it finally arrive. The food order was processed correctly and actually arrived before our coffees did, unfortunately two of the three omelettes were still runny and completely lacking any flavor, my mother's waffle was as hard as a rock, and the Mercer burger was raw on the inside. They replaced our food and the second time the food came out cooked properly, however the omelletes still lacked taste. Thankfully the manager handled the issue very well, he was extremely apologetic and handled the matter of the check appropriately given the circumstances. Unfortunately, the 40th anniversary brunch did not go as planned and I cannot recommend the Mercer Kitchen and will not be going back, but we will always have the story and remember the worst dining experience of our lives.

We were supremely disappointed and left feeling fleeced. If not for dessert, three of my fellow diners would have left hungry. I daresay we only ordered dessert because we were celebrating a birthday. The hostess did not know the table layout and we encountered our first challenge: getting to the table. This may be partly attributable to the increasing darkness diners are plunged into as the minutes pass.\nThe waiter was inattentive; we repeatedly had to ask for water refills and bread. The portion sizes are insulting for the price. \nAnd to charge$6.00 for a small coffee is outrageous. It is baffling that so few reservation times were available on Open Table yet the restaurant, which is cavernous, was not filled on the Saturday at 6:00 pm an unavailable time I was told!

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant after hearing someone talking about it. We arrived about 20 minutes early and they were able to seat us right away which was nice. However the restaurant, which is down a flight of stairs, was pretty empty at the time and yet the young woman who seated us tried to put us at a small table for two squeezed between two larger tables with three or four people at each table. We asked if it was possible to sit in an area not so squeezed in. She left us standing there while she went to check with someone else. Anyway they moved us to less congested area. Next up drinks, I ordered a delicious non-alcoholic ginger drink and my husband had a glass of very nice wine. The menu was almost impossible to read because the restaurant is incredibly dark. People at the tables around us were holding the little candles on the tables (or their cell phones) close to the menus in order to see them.so we did the same (I need to remember to bring a little light with me when I go out). I order 1/2 dozen West Coast oysters as an appetizer and lobster with potatoes as my main course. My husband ordered lentil soup and then the salmon over brussel sprouts. Our server asked my husband if he wanted his soup and salmon at the same time or if he wanted the soup first before the salmon which was a little weird and left us slightly confused. Ultimately everything arrived when it should have. My oysters were fresh and delicious but my lobster which cost $45 was incredibly tiny, it was more like the size of the lobsters you would get in a steak house as an appetizer, I would guess it only around 1 pound. My husband thought the lentil soup and his salmon were just ok. He was more annoyed though that he couldn't see what he was eating. Overall, the restaurant is pretty, from what I could see, but the food and service were just ok.

Considering how much staff they have- I must have counted 8 different people attending our table- none of them were very good. We had several items not show up, ordered pepper and chili flakes which took several requests and the repeated attempts to fill our water glasses even though we were drinking pellegrino. And then the food. Blah. Fennel and arugala salad that was so covered in shaved Parma that it hid the salad and flavor- to the smoked salmon plate that barely came with salmon and had 6 capers in total!
