Three of us had lunch on Saturday at The Smith Midtown. I have been here before for lunch but never on a weekend -- almost a different experience. It was very crowed and noisy but we were seated right away which was great. The service was very good and the food not only looked wonderful but tasted delicious. I will go back.
Brunch with girlfriends... excellent food good light fast service !!
Our server was very friendly and attentive, as were all of the other restaurant staff. We had a 1 1/2 year old with us, and the staff was very accommodating, bringing food at different times or bussing items we didn't need at the table. We enjoyed sampling the creative cocktails and menu items. We especially enjoyed the burger and the chicken pot pie. If you're a group of 4+, ask for a table by one of the windows. The area is more private, making it easier to hear the conversation, which is helpful since the restaurant gets pretty noisy in the evenings.
Service was terrible. Waitress eyeballed my wife, carded us for alcohol, and insisted to move our table over 'two inches' for no apparent reason.
Came here for my birthday dinner and we had a great time. Excellent food!
Excellent service and great food. Top notch. Highly recommended .
Lobster rolls filled with lobster meat. Quiet at 2:30 for lunch
We were there at 10:45 am on Sunday for brunch. The noise level was deafening. You could not hear anything across the table without shouting volume. It was headache inducing nonsense. The food was average. The service was actually quite good. I cannot imagine going back to this popular spot. The crowd lovers can have it.
Absolutely delicious brunch!! You get a free cocktail with a brunch entree.
In from out of town. Met family members at the Smith for Sunday brunch. Luckily we made a reservation because the restaurant was packed. Our table was ready right on time. The food and service were both excellent. Will return next time I'm in the city.
When you first step foot in The Smith, your first reaction will be 'WHOA!' It's sheer size and number of people it seats is amazing. If you're looking for a quiet romantic Sunday Brunch spot, this isn't the place for you. But if you don't mind sharing a delicious meal with a couple hundred of your soon-to-be closest friends, you'll love The Smith.\n\nDiverse selection of brunch entrees (at a very reasonable price), coupled with a complimentary brunch beverage, make The Smith a great value!
Excellent food - we enjoyed every minute. We were in from out of town - on a weekend away just the two of us. The macaroni and cheese was some of the best we have ever had. My husband had the chicken pot pie and I had the grilled marinated shrimp and both were fantastic. For dessert with had the S'mores in a jar and it was delicious! A great dining experience!
Food and service was great. Waited for a very small table for 5 people 45 minutes after our reservation time. Luckily we only ordered salads; nothing else would have fit on the table. Very loud. Impossible to hold a conversation with the whole table.
Outstanding! Service was great, food was excellent, can't say enough good things. The only thing (which is very minor) was that we had a relatively small circular table, so during the meal it was a bit cluttered. But, even still -- I would come back 100 times. \n3 people, full entrees, a shared appetizer, and we all had drinks for $130.00 before tip. That's incredible for Manhattan. \nP.S., get the homemade potato chips; delicious.
Always a great experience. Lovely staff and nice food.
Definitely worth a visit....great oysters, mussels were fantastic, and the squid ink tagliatelle was wonderfully good. The reds section of the wine list could be greatly improved, but they did have a 20 yr taylor fladgate, always nice after an excellent meal.
The hostess at the front desk was very rude. We were a group of 3 with a reservation. There was a very small table near the front that they would not seat us at because they said it was for five. Unless they were serving kids in 6th grade I don't see how they could fit 5 adults at this table. Finally the manager intervened and told the hostess to seat us at the table. Why should something so simple and logical be so difficult?
Excellent breakfast, big portions. Good value for NYC
I love restaurants and one of my favorite things about going to New York is trying new restaurants. It's really hard to find a mediocre restaurant in New York but lo and behold that's really what this is, in my opinion. I texted ahead to see when breakfast was served until and I was told 'around '11:30 AM. First of all I feel that's unwelcoming - it should be a set time. The complementary cheddar cheese biscuits that were served when we sat down were cold - OK not the worst thing in the world, but the cheddar cheese was congealed over them. That's yucky. Our server was fantastic. Shining star who had worked there for eight years - I don't remember her name but long blonde hair and was from Buffalo New York . The woman who was busing our table seemed inexperienced, because she kept trying to take stuff away. She wasn't busy and took it out on us! We had to keep stopping her - it was so annoying! My friend and I ordered the egg white omelette. Half the plate was spring greens. The other half was this enormous, bright white... they must have microwaved it because nothing was browned. Looked like half of a UFO with big clumps of goat cheese and giant pieces of spinach inside. It was just OK - tasted OK\n- but I did not like that it was probably cooked in the microwave. Some of the egg whites were not fully cooked. The spring greens were huge pieces. Very unappetizing. Organic whole-grain toast was excellent. Butter and jam were excellent. The other complaint is the water that The Smith house purifies - is a new trend I dislike even when it's done well - was pretty gross in old looking open bottles - and had particles floating around. I'd rather have New York City tapwater - actually delicious !
GOOD FOOD NICE PLACE SERVIVE COULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE FASTER
Food was on the salty side, which it usually is not. Back room was crowded and too warm due to lack of windows, warm night, and how many people were in the back. Will still go back, and hope this was just a fluke in the many times I've been to The Smith.
Great atmosphere. Delicious food. Great menu. \n\nHighly recommend.
Absolutely perfect location for a business lunch, or meal with friends. The kale quinoa salad is incredible!
It was really good. I thought it might be something like mid-quatlity restaurant, but it was something special. 10/10 to food, whole restaurant and especially service. Thank you again.
First time to this restaurant in Manhattan. Excellent food. Something for everyone. If your coming to NYC for the first time, this is a great spot before you go out and find more adventurous food.
The Smith never disappoints! The food, service and atmosphere is great and ALWAYS a good choice!
Fantastic food and great drinks. The atmosphere is lively however it was very loud. Not a place for a romantic date as conversation is difficult. Good service and tasty food.
Been here a few times unfortunately this time was disappointing. Service was very slow and food was mediocre, that being said I have had a few good meals here
One of my favorite brunch spots in the city. The toughest decision is choosing sweet or savory because everything I've tried so far is great!
This was a great find. We have been to NYC several times, but have never eaten here. The food was really good, but not fast. I would definitely go again. FYI - If you have a large group that needs tickets separated, our waiter said that they couldn't do it.
the food was far from perfect. Nothing was cooked right especially the French toast. It was so undercooked you could actually pull on the gooey dough. The mushroom omelette was disgusting. All the palettes looked like airplane food. The mac and cheese was horrible and burnt. I saw other tables around me and they didn't finish their food either. The food overall was very disappointing. The bar was set up nice so I believe it might be better for a bar visit. I would recommend friends to this place for the ambience but I would never go back myself.
I loved this place! The food was awesome, the ambiance energetic and delicious cocktails.
Had brunch here with a friend. Fun place with very long wait. Food was delicious and well worth it. Will return on my next trip.
The Smith came highly recommended and didn't disappoint! Great food, great service, great time!
Our waiter was great. Nice guy who really improved our dining experience. The food was excellent. Fun place !
This was a decent meal at a good value for lunch. It was extraordinarily noisy, so do not pick for a meal when you really want to speak to your companion.
Friends visiting
Colleen our server was stellar! Sweet and on top of everything! Jonathan the manager went out of his way to make sure the photo booth was working for us. All around impressed with the staff and the food and the vibe of the place! I'll be back!
Adriana our server and Jayce the manager were both fantastic. The food was outstanding. I've eaten in all 4 NYC locations and the quality and service are top notch in all locations.
The Smith is a very solid 'go to' restaurant for business or just friends getting together. Should be something for everyone on the menu, and the service is always prompt and friendly.
As usually the smith never fails to satisfy. It is always a go to spot
The Smith is my girlfriend's favorite restaurant. While I'm not as high on it, I do still really enjoy it. The desserts are all great. Dinner was good, but nothing special. \n\nPersonally I enjoy the brunch menu more, but you really can't go wrong visiting any of the Smith's locations for brunch, a sit down lunch, or dinner.
Great place for date night or everyday dining. A little on the pricier side but always a great meal. Long waits so make a reservation!
We had business guests from the UK - first visit to NYC and we chose The Smith for lunch given the menu options. Everyone chose different dishes and everyone raved about their selection - high praise to the kitchen staff for the consistency in delivering great meals from beef to seafood to Italian. Our waiter was wonderful - he was so attentive and gracious to every table. He treated the food allergy we had shared via Open Table with the utmost concern and care. We would go back to The Smith and I will look at the receipt for the waiter's name to ask for his section.
The Smith has alway been a favorite for me. Its my go to for an easy date night dinner or a great meet up with friends.
The food was mediocre, fried green beans were not good at all. The tomatoe soup was my absolute favorite. \nI had a shrimp pasta dish with black noodles, the noodles were overwhelming and I did not care for them. \nThe porkchop was so strong in rosemary it was not as enjoyable.
Much as we have a national bird, the chicken pot pie should be our National Pot Pie. If you order it, sit at the end of the table to keep prying fingers away from that cheddar biscuit topping.......\n\nAnd sticky toffee pudding, where have you been all my life?
Good and solid resto
Food is good however on more than one occasion with a reservation we were made to wait quite awhile. Told to go to the bar. Last time we just left after waiting past our reservation time. If you have nothing else to do and want to listen to other people's conversations because you have to raise your voice to be heard by your partner or just listen to others bragging about themselves. Very crowded and loud Not going back
the smith is one of my favorite brunch spots! i went this time with a group of friends. i got the potato waffle benedict and my husband got the sicilian baked eggs -- both delicious. we went on a sunday and you get a free drink with your entree! however, the waitress dropped one of the drinks and it spilled all over my friend's bag. but not only did my friend get a replacement and an extra drink for free... someone from management came over to our table -- she was very apologetic and said that if my friend wanted to get the bag dry-cleaned, they'd cover the cost! i always recommend the smith to friends and will definitely be going back (soon, hopefully).
The food is consistently great...... I live a block away for the last 9 months..... I have hearing loss so it's hard for me to hear in this very loud environment and I still keep going back due to the great service and consistently great food at a very reasonable price.
A nice restaurant clearly very popular with the locals -- a reservation is recommended during busy times. My omelette was good but not great. But the side of brussel sprouts and the coffee were fantastic. I would give it a second chance and order a different entree.
Great food.\nFood came out before our drinks, and without asking, our hostess put our drinks on the house. \nReally enjoyed the venue too.
Great place. Place was busy at 8pm on a Friday. Luckily, we reserved thru OpenTable and was seated immediately. Had the calamari (fantastic!) and then had the steak (also fantastic)! Our waitress was awesome - very attentive even with it being quite busy. Would go back next time I'm in town.
My husband and I went for an early brunch. I was really disappointed not to see the potato waffle benedict on the menu (one of my all-time favorite brunch dishes) but at least it forced me to order something different. I went with the truffled local mushroom toast -- it was good, but in my opinion, it was a little expensive for what it was. I still think that The Smith is a solid brunch place.
Great spot, but we had a reservation and still had to wait 20 minutes for a table.
They didn't have the table we requested ready for us and so that was disappointing other than that service and food were on point.
My staple to the Manhattan food scene, the Smith consistently has good food and service.
Emily, our lovely server, was friendly, professional and patient with us. The food was very good and there was something for everyone on the menu.
Very noisy. Because there are so many tables, service can be slow.
Very satisfied! Celebrate my anniversary with the boyfriend, both ordered the burger royale... yum! I ordered mine without cheese (lactose intolerant) as well as the '50/50' sauce on the side. Boyfriend got the works. I don't know why people say the fries aren't good... i polished those bad boys off! Overall a great experience and will definitely be back, maybe for brunch?!
Great place for brunch on the weekends. Very creative menu.
I'm torn with my review because while the service was outstanding and food was delicious, the restaurant is very cramped and loud. It was hard to hear my friend who sat just across the table from me. I'm sure there really isn't any time when this restaurant is extremely crowded. I don't think I'd go back to this restaurant due to the how loud it was, but we did have a nice meal.
I really enjoyed my meal but it didn't stay with me very long. I got sick within 30 minutes and it completely ruined my experience or any chance of me returning
Fanatastic food and service! Can't wait to go back
One of our party order Filet Mignon. It came out too rare. After sending it back it still wasn't cooked properly. They took it off the bill and gave him a new steak to take Home.
The Smith is perfect for any occasion. Service is usually always on par. Food, value, ambience is great.
I asked for a nice table to celebrate my friends promotion and got nothing of the sort. Service was slow. Food was mediocre.
The staff is fantastic. They really go out of their way to make you feel special
food was very good, service friendly and prompt., over-all very good dining experience
As usual, great. Very nice black pasta, pot of mussels (lot of mussels), chips and fries and delicious desserts. Impeccable service. The reasons that always bring me back.
The Smith, at its various locations, is our go-to spot for Brunch when in NYC. The 2nd avenue location is noisy but the food and the drinks are great and the service was also good. It's definitely for a younger crowd but they don't mind us boomers showing up.
Highly recommend the Avocado Toast and Shishito Peppers. Cocktails are great all around.
Great food. A little noisy and unisex bathroom were downsides. Overall, a nice find.
Good food, but very loud! Excellent flavors that you might not think would go together but do.
This place was PACKED at 11 am on a Sunday when we arrived for our reservation. One person from our party wasn't there yet, so we had to wait in the bustling bar with the walk-ins until she arrived before we could be seated. When I got a text that she was going to be an additional 20 minutes late, I talked to the hostess asking what we should do - should we move on to another spot because we'd lose our reservation? Or keep waiting? They sat the 3 out of 4 of us right away instead of letting us lose our reservation. Service like that makes all the difference in the world to me! They could have easily sat any of the walk-in parties and made up for the money they'd lose by letting us walk out the door, but they chose to honor our reservation instead. From there, we went on to have some of the best avocado toast and other brunch plates I've had anywhere. A quintessential New York spot, also great for fashionable people watching (though, we were dressed down casual and felt 100% comfortable, too).
One of our favorites in our neighborhood and come back time and time again for the great service and food.
I never know why the staff insists on everyone from the group being present before you can sit at the table. If I reserve the place at 11 I expect I could sit down at 11. Right? Anyway, from there on it was a very good experience. We had a small friends - get - together, so there were 4 of us. The sitting was comfortable and the table spacious enough. The food was very, very good at least mine- I had Sicilian baked eggs. Perfectly done, great taste. The only problem was that they don't serve white bread, but the server was nice enough to bring me a piece of white baguette. \n\nThe place is rather big, has a certain industrial/hospital feel to it, so it is rather loud. It was packed the entire time, so something must be right. I would definitely recommend this place for a weekend brunch.
Reliable menu with a variety of options. Great brunch place -- not if you're looking for quiet romantic.
Our food was delicious. 2 inch thick French toast, great twist on eggs Benedict, strong coffee. They accommodated our food allergies. I would go back in a heart beat.
Our waitress (Alexia) was wonderful. The food was good and the restaurant itself is decorated nicely. It was a good place to go for a brunch.
The food was phenomenal and the service was amazing! We ordered their mac & cheese skillet which was cheese heaven. Our waiter was so sociable and attentive to what we needed. The birthday cake dessert really topped the whole night off and made it the perfect place to go for a birthday dinner! I definitely plan on returning again soon!
went at 9:30 AM on a saturday with reservations. probably didn't need them but i always make them when i can! service was quick. love the in-house made sparkling water. food was incredible. definitely would recommend!
Like west side much better noise level too high here but good food & convenient to grand central/midtown.
The food all sounded amazing and we got a burger and some oysters.. tasted so good. Must come back
Picked it for a get together for business colleagues so it wasn't exactly business but not exactly a group of friends and it worked out fine. Noise level was a bit higher than we would have liked. Food was good. Lots of selections. Reasonable prices.
First time at The Smith for dinner on a weeknight. Food and service were fine. Noise level quite energetic - a little difficult to hear conversation at our table. Would not recommend for a quiet date. \n\nPros: Mac & Cheese was yummy and the Fried chicken was a winner. \nCons: Noise level, dessert not a hit
The food is undeniably good - hearty, delicious and good value. But they are more and more frequently becoming victims of their own success and the staff is just not enough for the volume of people they attract. The waiting time on my last meal was absolutely dismal. We had to waive and shout 5-6 times before anyone would come over to give us a menu, when we tried to order or ask for the bill. Just frustrating!
I go to The Smith quite frequently for working breakfasts, always for same reasons: delicious food, impeccable service.
While I've had many good meals at the various locations around town, I've never had breakfast there (as opposed to brunch). Avocado toast is one of my favorite breakfast dishes that I often make at home. Theirs is served on two large slices of wholegrain bread with cold avocado smeared topped with two poached eggs and frisee. Unfortunately the coldness of the avocado transfers to the egg . At home, my remedy is to heat the avocado for a few seconds in the microwave to avoid cold eggs. The portion size is too big for something billed as lighter fare. what would be better is a half portion served with some fruit on the side. I will be back for bibimbop next time I'm in NYC.
Really enjoyed our girls brunch here this weekend. We were in the area for the women's march and even though we were over 20 minutes late for our res, the staff was very understanding and still sat us right away. Great burger -- one of the best I've had.
staff was so accommodating and really kind. Food was delicious and drinks were great
Food was really good. Service was okay and it was pretty noisy.
Very good food and service - particularly since it was very crowded due to the Women's March. The salad dressing was delicious and applied in perfect proportion to the salad itself - loved, loved the salad! Sampled the fries too which were delicious. Generous portions and excellent food quality.
Great American staple but creative tastes, not boring
Excellent food, Mac and cheese was the best!
Wow! My husband and I couldn't believe our fortune in finding this gem on our last trip to NYC. It is clearly a popular spot as it was packed on a snowy Saturday morning. (Thank goodness for OpenTable!) The portions were generous- I enjoyed the Baked Sicilian Eggs- and the tastes were on point with everything scratch-made. Our service was friendly and efficient. Our only regret was that we didn't have time to go one more time while we were in town!
food is just fair. They give you still and sparkling water complimentary which keeps cost down. good for business meal.
Food is always consistenly good. There was some confusion about getting us seated and we ended up waiting a bit longer but the team made it right with a complimentary appetizer and wonderful service.
Awesome food and great quick service.
Great looking restaurant, fun to go with friends, could improve food, and service.
Very noisy. Food was fair. We couldn't even talk. One of the noisiest restaurants I've ever been in. Good for young people.
Had a nice brunch.
The food and drinks were delicious! Charlie was an outstanding server!
Excellent comfort food and good value in interesting 2nd Ave Midtown East spot. Lots of people watching opportunities....
This restaurant is great. However it was super loud. I went to dinner with a colleague and felt like I had to yell in order to be heard
Very accommodating management and staff. Excellent fresh food choices that changes with the seasons.
I like very much going to The Smith for working breakfasts. Always nice food, reliable service, very good coffee. Without the noise of other times of the day.
The candied bacon and the home fries were to die for. It was very cold inside.
great food, but seating is way too tight, worth giving up a few tables to make your guest more compfortable......\nmake a reservation as well, got right in.
Very good brunch. Definitely get a reservation even with one took us 15 min to get sit. To much noise..... very loud. Don't go there hung over like We did .
Went here for a sunday brunch, it was so delicious we got there around 9am and by 10:30 it was packed. The food and the service was great though we really enjoyed it.
The Mac n Cheese was delicious as were the Brussel sprouts. Salmon was cooked well but nothing too exciting. Girlfriend's loved the burger and the steak with garlic butter. The S'Mores dessert was really good! It is fairly loud in the restaurant.
Our reservation was honored and service was excellent. Brunch was great and included a cocktail. Have been there for dinner as well. Will definitely return.
Great place, great food. Gets noisy if you are wanting to have a quiet place for conversation. Would recommend as an upbeat place with great food. Ordered coffee at the end of dinner and it was not fresh.
Always love the smith. Solid and consistent food and service. Everything I've had I've always enjoyed from the burgers to the pasta. Highly recommend.
Best breakfast I've ever had! Great atmosphere and food, but crowded (people and tables) and loud.
Been here a few times. The food is phenomenal. Had the Smith steak so tender and perfectly cooked almost melted in my mouth. Our server was extremely pleasant efficient and super friendly. Overall great experience from the moment we stepped foot inside being greeted hello and upon leaving with a thank you have a good evening. Staff is on point thank you Smith for doing it right!
Amazing pancakes
its better on the outside than the inside- ie its a cool place, atmosphere is trendy but not over the top, however the food doesn't shine. stick with the basics- the daily specials.
Good appetizers. Homemade potato chips with blue cheese sauce yummy as was the mac and cheese. I wouldn't recommend the Burger Royal bc it was disappointing as it resembled fast food versus a bistro burger. Also wouldn't recommended the Brussels sprout salad that had a mediocre flavor. Reviews of salmon and steak were average fare.
Excellent as always. Very busy but they honoured the res.
Always a great place to eat!!
Nicd food. Nice atmosphere. We had space enough. There was some light. The good was good.
This is the third time I have arrived at the Smith for dinner and had my reservation pushed back by 15-30 minutes. They need to figure out how to manage seatings and reservations. Food is good but pretty basic bistro fare without any over the top or memorable flavors. Restaurant gets VERY crowded and loud. You can barely hear yourself in it, so avoid if noise is an issue or concern for you. I'll come back but just because I know it is reliable and consistent.
Once again it was an absolutely delicious brunch at the Smith:) definitely one of my favorite places to eat!
We had to wait over 30 mins to be seated.
The team at The Smith was great, paying special attention to the people with allergies in our group. We each got very different dishes and every one was delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing!
Impeccable service! Great ambiance! Exquisite specials!
Tis was my first experience here. The noise level is a little loud . I ordered the grilled shrimp entree. It was plated very well and had lots of flavor. My Husband ordered burger Royale and enjoyed it. The fries were done perfectly and not greasy. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Over all we had a great dining experience.
the Smiths are essentially American Brasseries - handsome, relaxed, cool. \nThe food is uneven - the table had a brunch toast with eggs and bacon which was excellent, a burger which was decent and a chicken sandwich which was not quite the right side of mediocre.\nBut as a go-to place for for a casual meal they are an attractive choice
We arrived 15 min before it reservation and ultimately had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated. This isn't the first time I've experienced this at The Smith and they should take fewer reservations in order to accommodate people close to their reserved time.
We reserved on OpenTable.com. Arrived w/ a party of 5 reserved and they sat us immediately. The food was comfort, yummy and delicious. The large portions made us all happy on that rainy day. 5 min from E subway to MET of Art. Such a lovely time. Thank you The Smith
Great service, Good food, this location is perfect for work groups
We love going for the Sunday brunch, but have eaten here other times as well. The food is quite good and the place has a nice atmosphere. We'll be back.
Ate here for brunch on New Years date. We had a 12:15pm reservation and were seated promptly. Place was packed yet they handled everything seamlessly. Our service, Brittney, was terrific. Did a great job on what had to be one of their busiest brunch days of the year.
Went for a Sunday brunch and so glad we did - great food (I got the classic eggs benedict), great drinks (LOVED the barnstormer) and great atmosphere! Would definitely recommend to others.
Authentic Midtown haunt for foodies looking for a relaxed atmosphere.
Great food, great service! Very interesting and creative menu.
Great weekend brunch in a lively, popular place. Book in advance!
New Year's Eve early seating was festive and well-staffed. Things moved smoothly and the food was very good. Big nights really show what kind of operation exists! Perfect!
I've been here 6 times and this is the only time service was slow. It took over 30 minutes to get coffee and about an hour to get our food. I left an overall good review because it is a good establishment but the service could be improved.
The Smith was a friendly and busy restaurant with a great atmosphere. There was a buzz about the place and the service was efficient. The portion sizes were generous and the staff were attentive. Even though the place was very busy it was an enjoyable place to be.
Consistently good food.
waitress preoccupied with chatting with co workers, rather unattentive \ncould not get her attention to tell her the steak was rare rather than medium
As always the food was great service was great
Awesome place. Great food, excellent service, great value.
Was a fantastic experience, great food, great service. Felt away from the crowds but great energy.
Food was great & really fast.
Really great food and service. Had two tired kids with us and that was completely fine with the rest of the clientele and atmosphere. It was pretty loud, so I wouldn't consider this a romantic place or a good place for a business dinner if you want quality conversation. Overall, really awesome.
The Smith is an energetic Midtown restaurant with the benefit of solid culinary options. We were there recently and received prompt, efficient service and good food. There was a fried chicken special that evening that several of the group enjoyed, truly innovative and flavorful,; while a few of us went with the always reliable steaks, properly cooked. I usually make the Smith a stop when in the City, and would recommend to others, with the one note that it is a busy, bustling location and not for those looking for a quiet corner table experience.
Tomato soup was expensive and disappointing but otherwise we had a very solid meal at the Smith.
A really good vibe to this place. Everyone left feeling they had a good meal and better than expected. Value seemed reasonable. Busy place lots of fans. We liked it.
Brunch is awesome! Try the special eggs Benedict or the egg blt. Great for breakfast lunch or dinner
We made reservations for 4 so that we could stick to our schedule for our 1 day/night in the city. I would definitely wait for a table here if I had a week in NYC and time to kill. \n\nRegardless of the reservation we still were not sat until 15 minutes later. However food and service were great once seated. Maybe you can't predict how long guests will sit for breakfast but the restaurant should not have that many openings available on open table if there is going to be a wait... on open table they appeared to be wide open while we stood there with 5 other groups waiting to be sat. \n\nBLT+E was amazing without the Aoli. The ranchero dish was amazing, all the best ingredients went into creating the meals. Coffee was good and server was attentive. \n\nWill definitely recommend to others.
Solid basic food, but nothing too adventurous. Excellent service and welcoming atmosphere.
I go regularly and it's always great. Can't get over the roasted tomato soup!! It's just too good!! \n\nThanks
Bad service
This is one of my favorite places to eat. This was my first time going to this location. I have been to one the one downtown. I love the atmosphere and the food. It's like so delicious. The Cesar salad was incredible and so was the mac and cheese! Tons of food!
After a very aloof greeting upon arrival (always good to feel welcome so this was noted), we were taken to our table of 9 and fortunately met with a fantastic member of the wait staff who provided brilliant service from start to finish. We were a large party (9) for brunch and our various drinks and food orders were somehow kept straight and everything flowed to the table with ease and good humour. The food itself was scrumptious. We had booked in for brunch on a cold December morn, and we came with huge appetites and all left satisfied and full. Given the prices in nyc, we were not even horrified at the cost. The coffee was INCREDIBLE, and worth stopping in for a cuppa if you in the area. It was a special family weekend together, and our feast at The Smith was a welcome part of it. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.
A little bit overpriced. Had to wait even with reservation ahead of time.
Great food, always. Great with kids and so accommodating.
Great place for our Christmas eve dinner. Cocktails were perfect and food delicious
We had a very nice meal here on Christmas Eve. I had been there for lunch and for drinks before. Service was great at bar and at tables. Mac & Cheese starter was yummy. Steaks & short ribs were very good.
Great Christmas Eve brunch with family. Food was amazing, waiters were attentive, great value
Waitress was very nice and accommodating .\nAll of our meals were quite enjoyable.
Great breakfast! Fresh juice, good drinks, good selection of food. Loved the cheddar biscuits to start! Large, open place, pretty full but didn't feel crowded.
Great spot for brunch. The baked eggs are a must! Just about everything here is great, you can't go wrong. Large space if you are coming with a group.
Good food and service with nice ambience but loud
This has become one of my favorite places to eat. This time I convinced myself to order something besides the Mac & Cheese so I ordered the gnocchi. It was fabulous & quite different from the normal gnocchi. My friend also ordered it & loved it as much as I did. I also ordered a watermelon salad that was absolutely fabulous! I could have licked my bowl! The watermelon salad may be a seasonal thing but I hope not. I hope I can always get it. Our waitress was not very attentive. Once we had to ask a waiter to find her to get our check. Someone else brought it. Then, she never appeared to pick it up. I gave it to another waiter. Did she leave? We didn't see her as we went to the restroom so maybe she did. Not sure but the food is so good, I will definitely return!!!
The restaurant itself was excellent but upon arriving at the time of our reservation, we were told that it was for 1:30 pm and not 12:45 pm. Thankfully, I had my OpenTable confirmation to prove that it was 12:45 pm. The host seemed confused as to how that could happen, and told us he would find us a table. After waiting 10 minutes, I approached him again. This time, he told us it would be 8-10 minutes. No apology for any inconvenience (we waited 20 minutes and this was a business lunch), no thank you for our patience. In fairness to him, it was packed but I won't rush back if that's how they handle reservation problems.
Loud, indifferent food, good service once we were finally seated after a long wait
Always dependable. For some reason, their oysters are always great. Burgers are very good. Loud and boisterous always.
I had high hopes based on other reviews, but was sorely disappointed.
It's just the noise. I love everything else. Conversation levels are exacerbated by music/electronica. Best to go on off hours.
We had an awful couple cursing and load sitting next to us while I had my wife and 11 yr old daughter sitting with me. Told management they apologized but said nothing to them.
Fun atmosphere, good food. We liked it. The braised pork was particularly good.
Far exceeded expectations for Thanksgiving. Same Smith experience with a great holiday atmosphere.
Overall good, loud as expected but good nonetheless
Ambiance is suited to 30s and under crowd but I'm in my 50s and enjoyed it for brunch, now twice. I love that you get a drink included with your egg dish and the blood mary's are spicy! Recently treated my godchild and her boyfriend and they both nearly licked their plates clean. Another fun touch is serving some menu items in an iron skillet. We will keep going there but you really must make a reservation for brunch.
The Smith was mentioned as a good place to take our granddaughter for dinner, close to our hotel and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed our fried green bean appetizer as well as the caesar salad, and all of us loved our entrees (noodles w/ butter sauce, burger, and chicken pot pie. Then we shared the S'mores In A Jar for dessert which was just delightful. Good choice of wine, beer and cocktails too.
No matter the location, The Smith is consistently great. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Noise wise, it's definitely loud but I found it to be fun and not disruptive. \n\nThere are photo booths in the bathrooms at all locations. Great way to make a memory of the evening.
The food was excellent. The alcohol options seemed to be priced higher than competitors in the area which led to a bit of sticker shock when the bill arrived.
The food was great but the restaurant was so busy that the service was slower than we would have liked. The food came out in a timely manner but the waiter had so many tables to attend to, that we were waiting for our check for a while. We were also stuck in a dimly lit corner of the restaurant, so if I were to recommend a request it would be to specify in your reservation where you'd like to be seated. Great avocado and mushroom toasts though-- a good place for brunch in midtown
Asked for a quieter table--they seated us at a small table at the back of the restaurant, exactly what we'd hoped for! Really appreciated.
Fabulous prime burger. Cooked just right
Great food and atmosphere. Need larger tables.
Very attentive service, great burgers and pot pie.
Wonderful Chicken Pot Pie. Worth going there just for that. Also was told the seared tuna salad was excellent. Took clients for a Holiday lunch and everyone enjoyed it. We felt a little rushed by the staff but we understood that there were trying to turn tables during this busy time. .
it's a cool place and I had a really good time there but it's nothing spectacular.
Too much pepper in each of the different entrees
You must try the cauliflower! All of the food was delicious--incredibly flavorful. The waiters were really wonderful, even with some fussy kids in tow.
The food was incredible. Some old favorites given a new twist. Our group of four thoroughly enjoyed our dinner after a day of seeing the Christmas sights.
Great place! We got there almost 30 minutes early and they were able to accommodate us early--very unexpected since the lobby was crowded with people waiting. The ONLY negative thing I would say was that the furniture was a bit out of shape. The table wobbled badly and felt loose, and the chairs were not comfortable. Also the chiars were wobbly and the legs felt weak and wobbly. \nService was great, the menu has a wide variety of vey interesting items, some standards (eggs benedict, french toast), and some very unique items (Sicilian baked eggs, truffle mushroom toast, steak with bernaise and eggs with 'potato waffles,' which were the tastiest and most interesting things on earth! Most breakfast plates came with a drink--anything from OJ, to a bellini, bloody mary, or several other fancy cocktails. \nIt's a huge place so its not quiet, but it was fine for a social group to have a great brunch. Dont go there for an intimate meal in quiet! \nOverall, all 4 people in my group lived it. We'd all go back!!
Went here for breakfast and liked it so much, returned for dinner a few days later. Relaxed but cool vibe and reasonably priced (compared to other nearby places) decent honest grub.
Came in for Saturday brunch. Packed lobby so glad we made a reservation. Service and food well worth it. Reasonably priced as well. Great value and great location.
Horrible service. Be prepared to wait forever for your food and then ask repeatedly for it.
Great brunch location. Even with reservations, be ready to wait a bit before being seated.
I dream of the avocado toast!
Fast service, great food! Family friendly but young atmosphere. \n\nWood definitely recommend!
Servers were lost and the food was average. Going down hill.
Great restaurant and food. Dinner tables in bar area were too small and space was crowded from bar patrons. Would've preferred table away from bar. We've been for brunch another time and we're seated in a different area, which was a better experience.
Food is bangin, cocktails too
Great food and atmosphere
Good brunch menue. Unique menue. Very good. A bit noisy but not too bad. Very good service too.
Best place for food !!!!
The mac and cheese was amazing. The roasted tomato soup was also great but our entrees included grilled chicken sandwiches and they were average, if that.
Perfect for breakfast or brunch. After 10 am it gets packed.
It is very loud inside, so if you want to dine you need to speak loudly to have a conversation. Also, the tables are so close together that you can literally rub elbows with the person next to you. The table had to be completely pulled out to get the person in the booth. There's tight seating and then this. I didn't plan to dine with strangers at my table. With all the options in NYC. I would not go here again.
Food is good but we felt rushed! Busboys were taking our plates even when there's some more food in it. It was annoying. I had to chase one busboy to tell him we were not done with pur brussel sprouts.
Great food esp. Mac and cheese, pressed chicken and Brussels Sprouts. Awesome service too
Thanksgiving Dinner was amazing!
Have walked by the Smith before, great vibe, but noise level always too high, needed a late dinner Sunday night, still jamming, but crowd included parents and children, noise level moderate, food was terrific! Will be returning soon!
Came for thanksgiving meal with a reservation and was seated quickly but then the waiting began. Food came out cold with a lot of time in between and we were never never brought stuffing for the table. Additionally we came as the day turned to night and the lighting was being adjusted constantly. Ambiance seemed better suited for a large group of friends or just a regular meal. \n\nFood was okay but I've had better prix fix thanksgiving meals.
Went with 2 girlfriends for Thanksgiving dinner. The appetizers were great, but it was all downhill from there. The mains were flavourless, tired and disappointing. The best thing was the mac & cheese, but even then it wasn't anything to write home about. The desserts were boring and not well executed. Will not be returning here!
This place was highly recommended; however if you are trying to catch up with friends this may not be the place to go.....very noisy and hard to here. Food was good but again it was really loud.
Breakfast. Delicious. The Jalapeño Grits were outstanding. Our server was extremely accommodating.
Very good meal but it was quite noisy so I wouldn't expect to have intimate conversations
Great Food! We were visiting from Kansas City and loved the vibe, the local food and the service.
Good classic brunch! Free cocktail on Sundays when you order a brunch dish. It is really loud (so many people) and there is a long wait (if you don't have a reservation). Overall, a good place to meet friends for a bite to eat
Love this place! Has become our 'go to' regular eatery
Met an old friend for dinner. Great wine list by the glass with lots of variety. Service was knowledgable and professional but not rushed. Everything was delicious - meatballs, Brussels sprouts flatbread, spicy salmon, cavatappi with short ribs. It was comfort food with a twist. Only complaint is the slightly too bright lighting and incredibly noisy space. Not a problem but be forewarned that there's a large unisex bathroom with individual stalls and a shared long sink. I'd definitely go back because the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lively since it was constantly packed with a diverse mix of people.
Mostly 30-something crowd with excellent food and service. Noise level near bar is high but a table near the back enabled us to hear each other. Will return!
Our experience was wonderful! Our server Stacey did an exceptional job and all the staff from food runners to hosts were very friendly and attentive. \nThe food was delicious. Our table shared the Monkey Bread, Mac & Cheese and the Potato Chips with Blue cheese fondu, all of which we loved. My personal favorite brunch entree was the Short Rib Hash, but the BLT&E was great too.
Good food. VERY poor service
Nice, but no view out to the street, all windows frosted.
Very loud, but also very good. We only had apps & salads, but we enjoyed them. The tuna tartare was delish and the calamari, really spicy. I had the chopped salad for my meal and it was also good. We glanced around at other plates and everything looked great. Will def go back again.
Fun place to meet a friend for dinner and drinks! Got the crab cake tater tots to start - delicious snack! Burger and tuna steak salad were both very good. We enjoy the vibe of the many Smith locations - recommend for small groups as it can be loud so hard to have conversation with too many people at your table.
Amazing food---mac n cheese, burger, potato chips with blue chees and French fries. All were delicious. A bit loud but a large open venue.
Staying in town for the Thanksgiving weekend, we were looking for a restaurant for a holiday dinner. The courses were excellent! A good choice with good value. I be happy to come again! Thanks!
The waitress took 20 min to approach and give menus although she saw us sitting. She was rude and inattentive, it was a Friday morning and it wasn't busy. The food was excellent and so healthy. I had blt croissant and it was awesome, the French toast is huge and delish
More than average quality food. Very attentive staff. Fair value for money relationship. Went twicw in a week. Recommended.
The home fries were delicious and flavorful. The cheesey grits in the short ribs hash was amazing.
This was a great experience for our 11 person family holiday get together meal. Everyone loved their meal, which is unusual. The food was absolutely delicious, and the attitude of the manager toward our large party was enthusiastic and wonderful!
The night did not start off great- water glasses on our table had lipstick stains on them and our server was run off her feet-apps were good-barely had time to eat them- then our meal was served. Entrees were disappointing-chicken pot pie had no chicken in it and top was not cooked. Cod was too fishy and left a bad taste in our mouth. Was really looking forward to this meal but was disappointed.
The portion sizes are really good, food is well presented but the eggs dont really come warm. The place is huge, so don't expect a cozy and romantic environment. Also, the ratio of waiters-customers is pretty low. Overall, price/value relationship is good.
Upon arrival, they sat my party of three at what felt like a child size table that couldn't fit two plates on it, if that. I asked to be moved, which they obliged. \nThe noise level was ridiculous and the restaurant was cold.
We had lunch before going to see the Rockettes. It was perfect!
The Smith was recommended by a good friend who works in Manhattan. We thoroughly enjoyed the fixed Thanksgiving day menu. It was full of seasonal, organic and regional sourced ingredients. It was simply and perfectly prepared and was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the handcrafted cocktails. The special '1621' cocktail was fantastic. Our service was impeccable and friendly and the environment was warm, casual and comfortable. The entire meal and experience was great.
Brought my daughter on her 16th birthday for breakfast. Perfect before our big day began. Food was fantastic!!
Great place to come for lunch. They were busy, so it took awhile to get service, but the food and drinks were delicious. Great comfort food. You have to get the house-made chips!
Candied bacon was glorious. Delicious french toast, eggs and even our finucky preschooler liked the kids plain waffle.
Had brunch at the Smith today for my daughters birthday. Server was very friendly and professional.\nFood was delicious!!!
We had our Thanksgiving dinner at The Smith this year. In the past we've had sub-par experiences with pre-fixe holiday meals, so had relatively low expectations, but I'm pleased to say The Smith wowed on all accounts.\n\nWe were seated promptly at our reserved time, our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. \n\nThanks so much - we'll be back!
Always great service and amazing food! Keep up with the great job! Thank you!
Reliable spot for a reasonably priced steak. Super noisy and always crowded. Good place to go for a fast round with a mixed group. Not the spot for conversation.
The quality and selection of the Thanksgiving menu exceeded our expectations. It was creative and tasty, and varied enough to satisfy all palates. I would recommend it to my family and friends.
Excellent dinner on a special occasion. Lots of families having a great time. Delicious sides and entrées. Impressive service with team bringing the whole dinner at one time. Teamwork! Will return on a future NYC visit.
Went here for Thanksgiving with family and loved absolutely every single dish. From the cornbread to the kale salad, grilled shrimp and all the Thanksgiving fixings--I cannot wait to come here again! Simply divine.
Awesome Thanksgiving menu. Food amazing!
Thanksgiving dinner was excellent. Everything we had was prepared perfectly. Our waiter Chris was outstanding. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good American style meal.
Very Good Food but noisy -- unless you go off hours. Restaurant honored our request for a quiet table in a booth in the back; nevertheless, you can't escape the loud music and soundproofing is nonexistent. If you go for an early breakfast or in the mid afternoon it is usually a very pleasant dining experience. Understandable though as to why it is crowded since the food is unusually interesting and always good.
The food was wonderful but the place was too noisy couldn't hear anyone at my table. The table was small and cramped!
Good very good but the whole restaurant is very noisy, you need to yell to keep a conversation , however the staff accommodated us in the least noisy booth at the back but still it's too much
Great food, service, and decor. Noise level was debilitating.
Very loud and too bright.
We always try to dine here when visiting Manhattan - good food with quite a few choices. We love the fried green beans. It is a very noisy restaurant with quick service. We were a little disappointed that we had a 20 minute wait for our table. Salmon and grilled shrimp were very good. Didn't love being charged $11 for a plate of broccoli that we assumed was just a vegetable substitution, not a side.
I've been to this location many, many times. Unfortunately, my most recent visit wasn't as memorable. While the service was as lovely as ever, the food was a let down -- my grits were served cold, the Brussels sprouts didn't come out with the rest of our food, the French toast was soggy and flavorless. I'm going to chalk this up to an off-day for the chef, as I otherwise always enjoy the menu options for brunch (the scramble pot-pie being a favorite).
A friend and I decided to skip the Halloween festivities and head out for dinner and drinks instead. She had always wanted to try The Smith and since I had previously dined I knew it would be a great experience. Turns out -- we were right! We had a great time and since the staff dressed up we didn't miss out on the festivities after all!
Exceptional customer service here. Our table wasn't ready but they were way ahead of that, providing cocktails and sending apps when table was available. Food always great at The Smith and always a fun night out.
Always a good time, as long as a reservation has been made. Always a bit loud, especially if it's been a late night. Know that portions are large and tasty.
The Mac and Cheese was amazing!
My sister has the Avocado Toast, which evidently was a special that was so popular it was recently updated to the menu, and I had the Potato Waffle Eggs Benedict (delicious!). Food came out quickly and so did our drinks. They serve sparkling and flat water right when you sit down. Great service. Overall great restaurant! Can't wait to go back.
I came to The Smith for Sunday brunch with five other people, two of whom were visiting from Spain and spoke little English. We had a wonderful time!\n\nFirst, my thanks and compliments need to go out to our waitress and several of the bus boys. Our waitress translated the entire menu for them and when she was stuck a few times, grabbed two bus boys to help her. They never rushed my friends, even though the restaurant was absolutely PACKED. The waitress even happily made accommodations for my friend who has dietary restrictions and had to order kind of off the menu. \n\nThe food was very tasty, with a few unfortunate misses. The Candied Bacon Scones were super delicious and not overly sweet, which was nice. The Hot Potato Chips with blue cheese fondue were really good when they came out hot, but got a little gooey when they started to cool down, which was our fault that we let them sit there for a while. The Smoked Salmon Benedict was good, but nothing extraordinary. The Breakfast Pot Pie had a weird 'crust,' but the gravy was peppery and delicious. The Mediterranean Salad was absolutely not worth the $16 price tag. The BLT+E Sandwich was something I would come back every single day for. It. Was. Heavenly. \n\nWord to the wise, make a reservation if you want to come here for brunch. The hostess was turning people away left and right the entire time we were there. \n\nAll in all, I would definitely come back for a fun, leisurely brunch.
Had a great time as always, but the food took a very long time to come out. Also it was SUPER noisy. Usually I have zero complaints, but because it took so long to get the food and the fact that the eggs in my eggs Benedict were watery, was a tad disappointing. Will still be coming back, but have had better experiences here before.
Great for brunch!
Home cooking at Haute Cuisine prices. Well executed but overpriced considering the oat of ingredients.
I was here for a business meeting at lunch time. Not only was the food great, but the noise level was perfect to discuss business. I would recommend The Smith to my business associates.
Very good. Food was hot and good. Very cool place to visit for dinner in New York.
went to The Smith with my mother and sister for brunch to cap off a weekend of celebration of our milestone birthdays. This place did not disappoint. The food choices were plentiful and there was something great for each of us. I am glad we got a table in the back as it was a bit loud but with a fun place and a great vibe it was all good. Definitely would head there for brunch again but be sure to make a reservation.
Although the food was great, me and my boyfriend could not wait to finish dinner and leave. We have never been to a restaurant as loud as The Smith. Perhaps it's cultural, i know Americans have a tendency to be loud, like...very loud! ð
Atmosphere was good, food was good for brunch or lunch. Not too many choices for dinner.
We loved it- great service- food was delicious. Fun atmosphere. Very busy: New Years Day. Would definitely go again
Great food and atmosphere. Always reliable. The Mac and cheese is amazing!
We had just arrived to NYC for a first time visit and someone recommended this place. The food was outstanding and if we ever visit NYC again we will surely go again.
Great menu and service, but can be very loud and noisy, especially when the dining room is full. Plenty of draft beers to pick from. Lot of choices for starter, salads and sandwiches.
Took my director there for a business lunch. We both enjoyed the food (had the special) and the atmosphere. Very NYC feel to it which is great for colleagues visiting from out of town. I will definitely be going back soon.
We made a reservation for 8 people several weeks in advance. It was reserved with a credit card. The table was not ready and We made a reservation for 8 people several weeks in advance. It was reserved with a credit card. The table was not ready and we waited over 30 mins to be seated. The manager did send over some 'complimentary' appetizers but when the bill arrived we were charged for them! They did remove the charge when we complained. But I would not recommend this restaurant for a group or any kind of work event. They appear to just jam customers in without regard to reservations.
Great vibe, nice menu selections, good price point. Food and service were on point.
This place felt like quintessential NY. We had a big group of 8 and wanted a good brunch at a reasonable price but wanted a cool place to go, not a diner or a 5 star place. We found it. \nThe Smith is open and bright and clean and has great character and our waitress was super friendly. Huge portions!!!
Excellent experience from the second we walked in until we left. We had a reservation but were waiting for 1 person in our party to arrive. Not only did they hold our reservation for more than 15 minutes but they sat our incomplete party (without any attitude at all!). The place was packed and I was expecting that we would be rushed out but that was not the case. I wish I got our server's name because she was great. The food was absolutely amazing and I am looking forward to going back again to check out their dinner.
I had the Chicken Salad as a Main course - and it was plenty. Even had left overs to take home!\nFrench Fries are a Must. Service is friendly and timely - we really enjoyed our eveniingg at The Smith!
Always love the food! I made a reservation and waited a half an hour to be seated. The hostess didn't seem phased by it and clearly didn't manage the seating plan. Would have appreciated her acting like she cared even just a little.
Always a treat to dine at THE SMITH - never had a bad meal - from Salads to Steak - you can't go wrong. Mac and Cheese is a MUST! We'll be back!
Went there for a friend's birthday for Sunday brunch. We were four adults and two kids, one a toddler in a high chair, the other an infant in the stroller - no problem to have the stroller table side. \nService was great - quick, extremely friendly and funny! Despite a huge crowd waiting we never felt rushed. \nEveryone seemed to like their food - great selection of classics as well as dishes with a twist. \nIt's not in our immediate neighborhood, but would definitely go back - especially for brunch in summer with the windows open it's a great spot!
Great great food! The service was awesome as well. I had a burger and my boyfriend had the mussels. Both were delicious, looking forward to going back and trying more things!
We had a delicious after theatre dinner. The cocktails were yummy, the entrees tasty and desserts amazing!!!
Took a trip in to NY to see the Christmas show and decided to eat at the Smith. Menu has a lot of variety, Steaks were delicious, raw bar was awesome, and Chicken Pot Pie was to die for. All in all, very reasonably priced for the city and if you go with children they do have 2 or 3 kid entrées not listed on the menu.
I mean . Does awesome say enough? No definitely not , but that is what my experience is every time I am at The Smith Midtown
Love the Smith the service and food are top notch about 90% of the time but those are great odds. We dine here often for brunch and maybe it is the age demographic they draw a younger energetic crowd or the design of the ceiling which may amplify the sounds / table talk but it is extremely noisy. Not that it keeps us from coming back. See you next Sunday but maybe not hear you Smith.
Had dinner here after graduation with 11 people. The group before us was late getting out, so our table wasn't ready until ~25 minutes after our reservation. We were able to grab some drinks at the bar while waiting, and we were brought some complimentary snacks by the staff. The food was EXCELLENT! Definitely expensive, but you also surely get what you pay for.
We love The Smith. The food and drinks are always fabulous so we try to visit here at least once when we can get in to the city. I guess my love for the place was somewhat diminished when my friend ordered a simpler breakfast than what was on the menu- eggs, bacon and toast. He was charged $20-- more than the specialty breakfasts on the menu. After bringing it to the attention of the waiter, the manager lowered the price to a whopping $17. Big deal! That's the average cost of all the 'better' breakfast dishes. Lesson learned: go to the diner across 2nd Ave for simple and cheap!
Brunch at The Smith is simply amazing. The cuisine is Americana and very memorable. Fresh and satisfying to say the least . Service , as always , is personable and very attentive.
Our server was absolutely the best! She was cheerful, helpful, efficient - we loved everything about her. Our food was good and we had a wide variety of things - salads, steak, eggs, brunch dishes etc. Portions are very large. This was solid and well priced but not a fine dining experience. You don't go here for that.
The Smith has great ambiance and the customer service of the staff was very attentive. The menu has a varied and great food selection and the bar menu had some fun drink selections. I would definitely recommend The Smith for lunch.
The egg white omelette with spinach and goat cheese a must. The home fries are the best. We were there for brunch. The staff couldn't have been nicer. If I want a quiet place don't go to The Smith.
Tried to get here for breakfast but missed - they stop serving around 11. Decided to stay for lunch as we were starving. I had the avocado toast - as expected lots of spicy avocado on toast topped with a poached egg and some greens. My wife has the crispy cod sandwich which the apple slaw was the star. Although the house chips weren't to shabby either. Lucky we sat down when we did as this place fill sup fast over the lunch hour. Good value, tasty bites and great vibe.
Excellent, yummylicious food!
Fun, locally sourced restaurant with a very high energy level. The subway theme is interesting but it gives rise to a very loud dining experience. Main dishes and sides all quite solid. Smores in a jar is a wonderful dessert to share.
Always a great time, at any of their locations. Flounder over polenta and spaghetti squash is the best. Chicken pot pie hit the spot.
The Smith
Had brunch there this Saturday- service was great, food was delicious, highly recommend.
Went for Sunday brunch with 8 people-- the food and service was amazing. The menu had a large array of choices, everyone commented on how tasty their food was. Definitely try the candied bacon scones with whatever you order.
We loved the food. There was something for everyone, even vegetarians.
While the food & service are both excellent, the noise level in the restaurant made conversation difficult. Thankfully there was room for my friend to sit next to me on the bench as we were having a hard time hearing each other across the table. The couple next to us had to call out to a server several times with increasing volume before they were heard. I love the food here, but will likely not schedule a meal here if it's one where I'll want private conversation at a sensible volume.
This place is great, but definitely more so with a reservation than without. It gets a HUGE happy hour crowd, so good luck getting a spot at the bar if you're only looking to have a drink or two with a friend. That said, reservations seem easy enough to come by and I don't think it's possible to leave without feasting on at least some of their yummy bar snacks (mac and cheese is off the hook, battered green beans are also quite tasty!).Not too pricey, gets a good amount of natural light, and has a lot of great options for food and drink. This is a new favorite of mine, and I will absolutely be back again soon!
I admit to a bias against restaurants that refuse to seat parties until every last member has arrived. In this case probably 20 sweaty, rain-soaked guests were crowded into the narrow, humid entryway when I arrived. Off to a bad start. The noise level is deafening. My companion and I had to yell the entire time. Service was ok, reasonably prompt and friendly, but the food was of mediocre quality serve in huge portions. The hot potato chip starter was about the size of a full bag of chips. Somehow they were bland tasting. This unfortunate choice was representative of the items that followed. Won't be back.
For some reason I always find this restaurant way too loud for me.
The service was amazing. The cuisine is a perfect mix of NYC chic with a Sunday Dinner family feel.
I went here with my wife after a day of site seeing. We were looking for someplace casual with tasty food and this fit the bill perfectly. Our server was attentive but not overbearing. We ordered mac n cheese to start, my wife ordered the chicken pot pie and I went with the pork chop. We also got a side of Brussels sprouts. The food was delicious, it came out in a timely manner and the portions were generous. The items were comfort food but not unsophisticated which really hit the spot after walking around in the cold all day. My only minor issue is that I prefer dark beers and the menu had no stouts and porters however the beer list still had decent variety. All in all it was a nice experience and if we're in the neighborhood we would definitely go back.
Restaurant had nice size portions, eclectic menu, good service. Restaurant very noisy so hard to talk with friends
Service was fantastic, atmosphere is really cool and food was delicious. Would definitely come back!
Love this place always a great experience. But if you want to go brunch on the weekends you better make sure you make a reservation. People wait for a long time to get a table otherwise. The ambience is fantastic the design is spectacular one negative for me at least is the noise level I rated it as energetic but I would say noisy it seems that it is quite cavernous in there and the noise really carries. My girlfriend loves the eggs Benedict and I highly recommend the cheddar biscuit.
Delicious brunch and kid-friendly! The vanilla bean French toast and rancheros were amazing. Fast service, too!
Great food!
AVOCADO TOAST IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE IN THE CITY. IT'S LARGE UNLIKE MANY OTHERS IN THE CITY WHERE I FEEL LIKE PAY SO MUCH FOR ONE PIECE OF TOAST. CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON IT TO BE A GOOD BRUNCH MEAL.
I always enjoy The Smith's ambiance and food. My guests beat me to the restaurant and expressed that the hosts weren't very warm or welcoming when they snapped that all parties had to be present to be sat... not the first time that feedback has been shared. Smile and remember to be nice to whomever walks in the door - they could very well be guests of regulars. \n\nServers were nice and food was delicious so I'll be back.
Great restaurant in a great area. Limited Sunday brunch menu, so i expected more from it. It was good, not great. The black beans were a little under cooked and the tortilla tasted a little stale. \n\nAlso we had an omelet, french toast and monkey bread. French toast was good, not great. A little dry. Omelet was perfection. Monkey break was something out of a movie. Just fantastic.
We have had brunch and dinner at both locations. The food and service is always spot on.
I have been to The Smith many times and I am always drawn to their clever and delish brunch menu. Be sure to go on a Sunday to get your booze included! The Passion Fruit Punch is to die for. Amazing French Toast, great eggs, and wonderful for dinner as well. \nLively place, be sure to call ahead for a reservation or weekend brunch is not an option.
It was my first time going to the smith. I met a friend for brunch and when I arrived I was surprised to see a crowd outside waiting. Glad I made a reservation. Food was good and they have a variety of different items on the menu to choose from. Will def go back
I regret coming here for lunch with a friend. Food and service were great but they packed us like sardines in the back. Seriously folks, that row of table for two's are just too close to each other!
We love The Smith and always make a point to go when we're in town. We have been to all three locations. Food and service are always great...don't skip the fries!!!
The food, service, and ambience were excellent. Everything we ate was delicious. The crabcake tots and flounder were superb.
A very energetic crowd with lots of the diners returning many times based on my conversation with those around us.
Took us right in host was very nice\nPlace was packed and much bigger than I expected\nHad a great corner table\nMenu for breakfast/brunch was remarkable \nService was excellent and food was delicious
I always choose the Smith as a brunch venue when meeting friends. The place is POPULAR - so expect to wait! But it's an awesome menu, the service is first class, and love ambience. What more could you ask for.
Solid. I do think it's weird that they require a credit card for reservations. It's not customer friendly and while it won't stop me from going there again, I will think twice about reserving there through OpenTable if friendlier options are available.
The food is consistently very good. As is the service. The noise levels however are a downside.
Met an old school friend visiting NYC for breakfast. Food and service were excellent and we were allowed to linger long past alloted time to catch up and enjoyed the ambiance.
Great quick service not pushy. Delicious
Excellent brunch with generous portions. Get's crowded on a Sunday so come early.
We received the table and were a few minutes late and they had given away our table, but they got us a new one within 5-7 minutes. Our waitress was great and the food was very good as well.
Great spot for breakfast in Midtown. Food was very tasty and healthy, too. Easy to hear each other speak so great for catch-up conversations. Service was excellent (as was the coffee!).
The staff could have been a little more attentive, although I understand, it was Sunday brunch after all. Other than that, no complains ever!
Good basic meal. I had the pork roast, special on Mondays, and it was okay. Salad was good and wine selection was good enough by the glass. Very noisy, but welcoming.
The service was so-so but the food was incredible. I will go back but only for lunch, when it isn't so packed and noisy.
Very loud and pricey but good food. Staff acted a bit uppity and bored with us. I send people visiting but as a local I won't be back.
Food and service were great . Never felt rushed. Met friends there for a Saturday brunch. Must make a reservation because otherwise you will have a long wait
Grossly over priced. But good, reliable and consistent.
Went for brunch with a group of friends. I am not a big writer, but am a bit picky when it comes to food. Everyone was pleased with the brunch. Sat us quickly, nice restaurant, and quick service. I highly recommend it. Thanks.
I enjoyed a great breakfast. Casual, but trendy and good vibe.
Excellent food, loved the gnocchi! Very noisy though.
Have been to The Smith 3 times now and always a great meal. We go for Brunch. It is a bit loud, but the service and food is worth it.
The food was good but not mind blowing. Service was very good and the food came out insanely fast. It is obvious they're looking to turn tables quickly. This is not the place to come if you're looking for a leisurely meal.
Got seated within 10 minutes for our reservation. Must go there with a reservation as it's very busy at brunch
Always great energy and friendly service at this happening spot. Not for the hard of hearing. Food is very solid and meshes comfort food with some great salads and veggie dishes. Oysters are consistently good. Excellent bar with well-made cocktails from friendly bartenders.
Loud! Any time on weekends is crazy hectic. Food and service are fine. Just don't expect to talk while you dine...or be prepared to shout.
We ate at the original The Smith a few years ago. Didn't know they had 'sister' restaurants around the City. Glad we found this one on the East Side. Great breakfast/brunch of Avocado Toast and Poached Eggs (requested them 'hard' and they came out perfectly) and the Pancakes with Whipped Ricotta, Pecans and Salted Caramel Sauce (a bit dry, but didn't want the syrup - so this is on me). Really great coffee and very good service. No rush, but we got our check quickly after requesting it. A very, very good meal all in all!
One of the best brunches in the city and the service is always fantastic. The Smith never disappoints!
Good food but it felt like they took their time to take it to the table
The service and the food was amazing I will definitely come back to The Smith.
Great spot. Lively, hip and food was well-prepared. FYI...the large carafe of red was a bit to much red wine for 2 people. They also have a small size, either way a bit more economical than a bottle. Professional server and table bussers for sure. Several times felt a bit rushed, they seem to want to turn tables over and I was aware of tables being monitored by staff. Our apps, food and drinks basically came out all together. So much for dining.
Professional, attentive, accommodating, and the food was to die for!
Excellent place for having Brunch!!! I visited there with my friend. I odered Avocado Toast and Bacon as a side, and she odered Egg White Omelette and Home Fried as a side. Food were very tasty and fresh. They gave one bottle of sparkling water and one bottle of regular water. Great service and atmosphere. My friend and I said, we definitely came there again. I want to try dinner also. I very highly recommend The Smith!!!
Great ambience and good food - recommended. They also took the trouble to mark the fact that it was our anniversary - nice touch.
food very good and plenty of choices. My last trip wasn't as good as usual, but I will be back because still one of my favorites
Probably one of my favorite restaurants. Relatively simply menu but everything is amazing.
We went for brunch and had the pancakes and they were fabulous. Large enough to share. The service was excellent.
Fantastic as always, The Smith never disappoints. We came here with friends looking for a casual environment where we can get great food in Midtown East and we got just that. Great french toast
Food and service was great. Menu choices are great
Excellent food in a terrific atmosphere for great value
Always make a reservation as The Smith is very popular. Solid food, fresh specials and professional hospitality. Good places to sit if you need quiet.
Will definitely dine here again when back into NYC. Great flavor combinations, kicking up traditional menu items into something different to challenge the taste buds.
Great food. professional service.
Great service, very accommodating. Virgin drinks were superb esp peach basil. Bathroom very dimly lit-like walking into a dungeon. Perhaps I choose a bad night but the food was ok. I heard so many great things about the restaurant so a bit disappointed with the food. Ordered salmon had to return it. Bread very hard. The rest of the meals were decent. Not great but not bad either
Verrrrrrry noisy and verrrrrry crowded for brunch on weekends. Good food but a punishment.
Possibly the loudest restaurant I've ever been to - couldn't hear the person across the table and the wait person couldn't hear the order. Inattentive service - never came to take a drinks order -- but bus people swarm constantly trying to pick up your plates. Food was good - but not a pleasant environment for dinner.
The Smith is LOUD. Even as a young person with great hearing, I end up yelling across the table and constantly saying 'what?!' to try to hear my friends. This is clearly by design (they have both music and tile walls) so there is simply a ton of noise and nothing to absorb it. \n\nThe servers always rush you to finish your meal and pay and get out. The food is very good but over-priced. So why do people keep coming back? It's a good place for a standard American meal where everyone in your group can find something to eat. \n\nThis is NOT the place to catch up with a longtime friend, but it's a good spot if people don't know each other well because the noise will overcome any possible awkward silences.
First time to the restaurant after a friend's recommendation. reservation seating took over 45 minutes to be seated. food was average but nothing extraordinary - and the Monday pork roast was just not good.
Excellent, attentive staff. Breakfast menu a little limited but the food was pretty good. Would go back.
Great spot for a quick & casual lunch. Generic menu that caters to most people's tastes, service is average however even when it is very busy you will not be pressured to leave. The noise level is horrendous though - some soft furnishings or something to address this would not go astray. Solid restaurant choice for dining in midtown. Price as expected given the location. Would always recommend making a booking.
Great food, good service, good selection. The only reservation I have is the standard NYC seating. My wife and I were sat at a 2 person table in between 2 4 person groups. I was overwhelmed by their life stories and the constant complaining about traffic and work drama that I didn't care about. All my comments on the staff, food and service of the restaurant would be great, just not the atmosphere we were stuck in the middle of at that time. If anyone wanted to get up from the bench, two tables had to be moved to allow that person to get out....that can't be normal.
Too noisy for enjoying food and conversation with friends. Fully packed, good for people watching
Overpriced, too noisy to enjoy. Food is adequate.\nThey serve bottles of water and seltzer on the table that would be a nice touch if they were chilled\nOverall, nothing special about the place
Great for two people or a group! Definitely recommend making a reservation before hand!
After being in the restaurant for only a few minutes my ears and head hurt, because of the extreme load noise. The food was average, but overpriced. I would never eat at the Smith again.
Food was great, but you can tell this place wants to get people in and out quickly, it was also EXTREMELY loud. I felt like I had to yell across my own table to have a conversation.
We arrived at the Smith for our 12:30 reservation and the place was packed. The hostess said it would just be a few minutes and that's how long it was. We were seated and provided with a bottle of flat and sparkling water and our menus. We then sat for a while until we could grab someone to get us a drink. When they arrived we ordered our brunch. My waffles were perfect, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with mixed berries on top. Perfect. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich which he said was good. \nAll in all a great place other than the noise. People had mentioned this in past reviews and it true, it's very loud.
Food was EXCELLENT! Would be great if TVs were in bar area. Drinks were way to pricey, especially because of the large amount of ice you put in them... Service was good.
We enjoy The Smith Restaurant. Been there many times for brunch. The food is so good. I particularly love the avocado toast. There is always plenty of food. The service is great. They are always pleasant even when crowded and many people waiting for tables. I recommend getting a reservation, especially for brunch. One of the best in the city.
As usual, great Saturday brunch.
The Smith is a very loud and bustling environment every night of the week. The food is generally good, albeit overpriced for the venue, but it is not advisable to go there as a group of two as the noise level is extremely high. Definitely better for groups or brunch. They also will seat you 15-30 minutes after your reservation times.
The food was great and the service was great! My only comment would be that there was water dripping from the ceiling. I think it was from the AC but still it was falling on people's heads.
Food was great! However, I asked for medium rare salmon and they gave me a fully cooked salmon... I hate being one of those people who complain and return food. It was still good, So I ate it, but it was definitely not what I asked for.
Very good breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes. A bit noisy.
The music was deafening, which probably accounted for the server getting our drinks order wrong twice. The food was OK but the entrees would have benefited greatly from being a lot warmer (serving tepid food gives the impression that the dish has been sitting unloved in the service area for a while).
Sat us 1/2 hour late! Besides that - good food and ambiance
Met up with our Daughter in the city. Great meal, fun atmosphere, and very nice staff. We really enjoyed ourselves and would certainly go back again.
So noisy! We had to shout and it was such a relief to get outside.
Took my late-twenty's daughter there for brunch. We liked it a lot. We would return.
try the ricotta gnocchi and the cavatelli. the steaks are quite amazing for a non-steakhouse as well.
The food was good and the service was good as well. I recommend the burger to anyone that likes a good burger.
Not going to lie, I come here in spurts of three or four times in a month. I love this place and there's always something new to try since the menu is extensive. The food is always great, the waitstaff is really friendly and personable, the hosts are nice and although it's usually really loud - it's high energy and so it's not so bad (I typically prefer quieter restaurants due to hearing sensitivity but will put up with the noise level because I love coming here). Drinks menu is always great and seasonal and so is the dessert menu (oh gosh, that sticky toffee pudding). Can't recommend this place enough!
The waitress was well informed and was very helpful. The food was delicious, however it was so loud we had to scream to talk to eachother.
I enjoyed The Smith so much during my trip to New York that we went back again before leaving. Nice environment, excellent food. I found The Smith on OpenTable and so glad I did. Whenever I'm in New York again I'll be back!
It's always a fantastic time at the Smith. Service is on point. They know their regulars !! Thank you always
Great every time! Only negative was that they were out of the avocado toast, but everything was delicious otherwise.
Continually go back whenever visiting NYC. Have been to 2 of The Smith - all wonderful.
Great meal and experience as always!
I found the food, atmosphere and the room for my colleagues and client to be very good. It was perfect for a business lunch.
Keep going back and back and back again. Always consistent. Great food and drinks.
Sure hope to return soon. Although a little loud the food and the service was simply outstanding. I had the flounder and I just think it might be the best fish meal I have ever had in NYC. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and quick. We were a group of 5 with the age range from 11 to 75 and we all left happy. Looking forward to return.
We keep going back - only disappointment was being sat in the Bar that evening - would have preferred the Restaurant, but no tables were available. Also, when making the reservation I requested a candle be put in a dessert as a Birthday surprise - but that wasn't done. By the time dessert came without the candle, it become unimportant to request after the fact.
Always a great meal here! One of my favorite go-to restaurants!
Good quality comfort food. Don't be fooled by the attractive prices of wine by the glass; you are actually ordering wine by the thimble. The noise can be deafening.
Wonderful, as usual. I had a hamburger this time and it was awesome! The only downside is the noise level and the wonderful waiters are not always in view or passing to see if anything else is needed (ketchup, etc). Still, a wonderful place.
Fun ambiance. Food wasn't anything to get excited about. Wouldn't go back with all the other NYC options.
The Smith is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan! You can be sure that any time you eat The Smith (at any of their NYC locations), you're going to leave happy and satisfied.
The calamari was to die for! I got the mussels and fries and it was amazing and a very generous portion. Service was awesome and very cool space!
Big portions (lots of take home boxes were observed) of very good food. If you order something with fries, get ready for the challenge to finish all of of them. Friendly and ENERGETIC environment. Be prepared to talk loudly to your companion(s) in order to be heard.
The food was excellent. The server was excellent, gave us great recommendations on the food and drinks. We had a really great time and the overall mood of the place was great.
Food was good. Not amazing, but definitely good. Ate lunch there so didn't partake at the bar, but it looks great. You just get the feeling that you could get a great cocktail! Biggest drawback was the noise level. Super noisy. Had to raise our voices to hear our selves speak.
Really good brunch place. The menu is a little heavy but everything was tasty!
As usual, this place is loud and boisterous. They honored the reservation for brunch on a Sunday afternoon, which is valuable when there is a long list of waiting patrons. The food was fine...not extraordinary, but good. Comfort food, sometimes with a little twist, but really comfort food. Service was also good (again, not extraordinary). \n\nThis is a fairly priced, well run, well located New York City restaurant serving mostly American comfort food. You can't go wrong with it.
This place was very cute and perfect for lunch with an old friend. We arrived before lunchtime and the place filled up very quickly to near capacity by the time we left. That being said, it was VERY loud. Loud to the point where it was difficult to hear each other speak. They had music playing overhead that was louder than it needs to be. The food was fantastic and quite different without being too crazy. I would definitely go back for casual dining, but I'd be more selective about where I was seated. Maybe that would help with the noise factor!
Great food, but very noisy. Not as conducive to conversation as I had hoped, although we enjoyed it very much.
I was meeting friends for breakfast -- THE SMITH was an inspired choice. There is plenty to choose from, portions are huge (at least the avocado toast could have been shared) and the tables spaced far enough apart that you can easily talk. It's not inexpensive (price was about $30 pp all in, with tip) but definitely worth it!
I love this place. Everyone is friendly. Food comes out quick and delicious.
Noisy, atmospheric well-cooked decent value
The food was delicious- had each of the oysters and the steak n eggs. Only drawback was the table was a little cramped for five people, but otherwise 5 stars all around
We had the lobster roll and it was excellent! ð
We always like the food at the Smith. Its well cooked and decnt portions of comfort food . Unfortunately, dont come here to catch up or talk unless it an odd hour. Usually crowded and all jhave tiled walls for the WORST accoustics. IT makes for a great looking restaurant but very LOUD
Heavenly breakfast with unique dishes. Very hopping place. We enjoyed a nice Saturday breakfast and we were served in a timely manner- neither rushed nor agonizingly slow. Highly recommend the Benedict Johny and the Vanilla Bean French Toast.
Loved their house made mock tails
I dined at The Smith on a Sunday at 11:45AM. The placed was packed with dozens standing by the front desk and door waiting for a table. I had an OpenTable reservation and was seated rather quickly (5 minute wait or so). It made me feel like I was VIP to be seated before so many others, presumably who did not have reservations. The service was quick, friendly, and very professional throughout. The French Toast I ordered was very good, but a bit more fluffy than I prefer. It was almost like eating a Cake that was french toast flavored. It was still very good nonetheless. I will definitely return to The Smith.
Enjoyed a wonderful brunch with family at The Smith. Highly recommend!
Our go-to restaurant for brunch and dinner. I've had just about everything on this menu, and everything is prepared to perfection.
The restaurant remembered that we were celebrating s special birthday. That went a long way
A perfect place to eat. Lots of different choices
We were pleased to have found this great restaurant, which was also close to our hotel, where we had breakfast. Both of us had different types of egg benedict, as we were on holiday I treated myself to the special of the day....lobster, which was...delicious. We would definitely return again.
This venue is good for a mid 20s thru mid 30s crowd. Music was loud for a quiet dinner, but great for happy hour or going out with a group for fun.
It just is too noisy. The food is very good, but leaving with a sore throat from shouting to the person next to you and having your ears ring for an hour after is no way to spend an evening.
We had a pleasant dinner and drinks with friends. The food was fresh and tasty. Friendly and quick service.
My NY strip steak was perfectly cooked and very tasty; I chose mixed greens for the side and it was fine (but not so creative, just dressed lettuce). A Manhattan cocktail was excellent. I cheated on my diet and had a hot fudge sundae that was worth it, with a bit of cake & almond bark. Service was friendly and efficient. Music was energetic (classic + adult rock). I would definitely return if dining in that part of town again.
Good food. Friendly wait staff. Noise level is extremely high during peak hours.
I think I ordered the wrong dish ~ The Breakfast Chicken Pot Pie was just WEIRD...the 'biscuit' topping was a thin, tough piece of dough and the contents was akin to gravy...not sure what I expected, but it definitely fell short of expectations. \n\nHowever, I saw a number of other dishes come out that looked divine...might try again...
The restaurant tries to save money by limiting staff. The service is incomplete, slow and chaotic. The food looks better than it tastes.
Not sure why they need to blare hip hop during weekday lunch but if you couple this with the 6x9 subway tiles adorning the space...it's not easy to have a conversation.\nNice beer selection, slow service, should be able to let them know how you want your burger prepared when they're dinging you close to $20 for the privilege but you will be informed they don't take temp requests and get two thin overcooked patties.\nOverall....incredibly disappointing in a space that could be so much more
Came in for Brunch. Crowded but seated & served in timely fashion. Great food. Great staff.
I've tried the house cheeseburger. Honestly a Wendy's hamburger is much better. The one I ate at Smtihs had a dry, untasteful beef with buns incompatible with even street food cars. My wife liked the goat cheese white omelette she had. I don't expect to come back there.
Great food, great ambiance, and great service. The Smith was highly recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed.
Thought it would be too noisy for a dinner with new friends, but it was great. Food was delicious and the waiter was great.
Came here last year and had the corn beef hash with eggs. The best I've ever had. I was so looking forward to ordering it again only to be disappointed that the took it off the menu only two months prior. I did have an order of the home fries and they were as I remembered them. Excellent!
Great ambiance and an energetic crowd! A mainstay in Midtown East with a solid food/drink selection.
A good restaurant for a lovely dinner. Excellent food and service. \n\nHowever, noise level was very high. We weren't able to have a normal talk since everyone was talking very loud.
Great brunch was had by all. The restaurant is a little too noisy for my taste. It was difficult to talk to the people across from me.
I was a diner in 2 Smith restaurants in a 5-day period last week. The staff is excellent in both locations, as were the servers. (Who are also usually good-looking at the various Smiths, as well as friendly and attentive!). I think the price for experience a bit on high side, but that's all good if they are paying these kids well, because the employees are the place's best asset.\n\nThe food both times was richer than I expected, even for fish and veggie dishes. I often find the fare on the heavier, 'kid menu' side, summer or winter. Appeals to the demographic they attract, which is the loud, large-table 'bro and their friends' gang-at-work type of young drinkers (or maybe diners). Emphasize the pervasive loud factor. Conversations cannot be had at a normal volume, and the tile surfaces that are above, below, and next to diners just amplify the loud loud loud ambience. Oh, and add in superfluous music to the mix. Also set on loud volume. \nThey call this 'energetic'. Be warned.
I recently enjoyed brunch at The Smith during a 'Girl's weekend'. It was close to our hotel, and the menu looked good. We arrived earlier than our reservation, but were seated right away. This place is a very popular breakfast/brunch spot and every table was filled. Our waiter was very attentive, refilling coffee, etc. Another great thing was that we didn't feel rushed at all and were able to enjoy a leisurely brunch. We all ordered egg dishes, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The coffee was great, and it's a nice feature that they give you bottles of still and sparkling water for the table. We also treated ourselves to dessert - 3 HUGE chocolate chip cookies - yummy! I would definitely go back to The Smith anytime and highly recommend it to anyone.
Came for brunch with boyfriend. Was very hard to choose what to get because everything sounded amazing. Got the special soft shell crab with eggs in hollandaise sauce. Couldn't have been better. There breakfast potatoes are the best. Boyfriend got the blueberry waffles which were great! Will be back
Good food... \nNice ambiance...\nDidn't appreciate the full court press of wait and kitchen staff coming to table to remove our plates indicating they wanted to go home and enjoy Christmas eve with their friends and families - we essentially had a one course meal for 11 people - most of us had appetizers waiting for our table at the bar ...we were trying to enjoy our Christmas eve dinner and it was not our fault you sat us 45 minutes after our reservation...
Food was good; waiter and staff were great. REALLY noisy.
Chose the restaurant for location and was pleasantly surprised. Started with roasted tomato soups that was delicious. It was topped by melted cheese a la French onion soup and the soup was thick and yummy, great for dipping chunks of bread. For entree, I had the Avocado Toast that was tasty, huge and filling especially after the soup. Right after noon time, the restaurant filled up quickly and the lunch crowd was lively, making he place energetic and no longer spacious.
Great food, had a reservation and they sat us on time. Cocktails were great too!
Always great! Love coming here. Love the food, and the hostesses are always gracious!\nCrowd is fun! Thanks!
Great vibe! Fun atmosphere! Our food was terrific. I rated a 4 only because the steak salad didn't have quite enough steak. Not a huge selection of wines but lots of other drink choices
The restaurant was great, very noisy but it was a good atmosphere and the food was amazing. My only complaint is that we had a reservation and wasn't seated until 15-minutes past our reservation time. Other than that, great restaurant, would highly recommend.
It was a perfect First date.
Very enjoyable Sunday brunch.
The Smith was an absolute score for us! We wanted a brunch close to our hotel and we got way beyond that! We got there for our reservation - didn't wait any time and the brunch food was some of the best brunch I have ever had! The pot pie, Sicilian egg bake, and johnny Benedict were phenomenal! And to make it even better (bet you didn't think it could get better) you get a complimentary cocktail with your entree! These weren't just ordinary free cocktails.... the mojito and the bourbon cocktail were some of the best I have ever had! Hands down would definitely go back here and recommend! Also---- the place was packed although you would never have guessed it because the service was on point and our waitress was so attentive!
It was REALLY busy, but they took us as soon as we got there. It was REALLY noisy, and tables were crushed together. Great lively atmosphere for people in their 20s and 30s. Food was good, but not great. Service was good. I'd go back under the right circumstances.
Fun place and great food. Nice menu and excellent service. Loud, with high energy. Young crowd on a Friday night. Everyone's food looked great. Place is also well managed. Everything was very efficient.
The food and atmosphere was great. My only complaint was our waitress was an idiot and couldnt figure out how to sort out our bill. She looked like a deer in the headlights anytime we asked her a question. It did suck the fun out a little at the end when trying to pay our bill.
Service started a bit slow but then picked up. Food was ok. I had the French toast and side of bacon. The French toast lacked a bit of flavor. Bacon was done to perfection. A bit pricy as my food plus a cup of coffee came out to $40 with tip.
The brunch menu is varied and very well priced. Everyone's food was beautifully plated and delicious. The service was very good. Our waitress never stopped refilling our teas and coffees.\nDefinitely going back.
You can't beat the brunch at The Smith. Their bloody Mary's are spicy, and the food is delicious. Try the cheddar jalapeño grits. Fabulous! Be sure to make a reservation or you'll be waiting a while.
Waited until 8PM to be seated for our 7:30PM reservation and took until 8:30PM for our food to come out. We were a family of six, and needless to say, the kids were too hungry and tired by then to eat. Too noisy, took too long to get seated or served.
This was a terrific brunch, and I can understand why it's so hard to get a reservation here!\nOur party arrived at 11:30, and our table was available within five minutes of our arrival. NOTE: No cocktails before 12noon on Sunday. \nThis is a busy, bustling place with a loud vibe, but perfect for a Sunday brunch with a group of friends.\nWe ordered the omelette specials, avocado toast, ricotta pancakes and BLT-E, and everything was fresh, well-seasoned and delicious. All breakfasts come with a cocktail or juice, and the rhubarb fizz was interesting AND very yummy.\nI would 100% recommend The Smith, and intend to return!
Great place for families! Open air in summer.. Good menu for kids and adults
Great food, fun vibe, great decor. Only criticism is noise level. Quite loud.
We had to ask the next table to not shout at each other. The waitress would not ask them. That is just impolite, and we will not eat there again.
Much too loud even for this 20's group Had it shout to be heard
My group and I had breakfast/brunch. Everything was delicious - especially the grits, spinach and biscuits. Everyone in my party agreed they would return because of the food. The service was good too, wait staff was attentive and we didn't wait long for our food despite it being very busy.
Great neighborhood place for a great meal and vibe.
I met to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in a while and it was SO LOUD we could hardly hear each other (even with only three of us) and had to yell and repeat ourselves. It really put a damper in the evening. Music was BLASTING and the acoustics of the place make all the talking noise also very loud!
The swordfish was very okay and moist. My dad go the mussels which were just okay. Very crowded as usual but good!
The Smith never disappoints. Consistent casual fare. Great drinks, specials and service. Chips with blue cheese fondue dip and jalapeño cheddar grits are my favorites. They do a seasonal menu. So try the chicken pot pie in the fall.
Great place but just too noisy. Fine if you don't mind shouting at each other.
This place is LOUD. Ceramic tile bounces sound all around. Food is decent and reasonable prices pack the house.
Always a nice experience, delicious food and very good service. Reservation is a must during the weekend.
Had a great time
Very enjoyable brunch, knowledgeable wait staff, good value, delicious Bellini!
I love the Smith overall, great food, a bit pricey but nice atmosphere too. My only issue with the midtown Smith is the noise level. It was incredibly loud where I sat, made it challenging to keep up a conversation. Just something to consider if you're making a reservation. I actually think its better for big tables where you're sitting next to people to engage with, rather than a table for 2 where we were shouting across the table
Lively ambiance with good food. Great spot for brunch. I like that it is pretty spacious in comparison to most NYC spots. The restrooms are downstairs and are fairly clean (light on means it's occupied!) I had the Sicilian baked eggs-- it had a lot of flavor and a little spice. Very tasty. Also try the jalapeño cheddar grits-- I don't even like grits, but the Smith's are delicious! Service was EXCELLENT. Ask for Omar-- if/when I go back, I am definitely requesting him. Cannot say enough great things about his service!
Restaurant was very yummy but pricey I thought. Macaroni appetizer was delicious and my pasta dish I ordered (can't remember name) was delicious! The only issue I had was that we were practically sitting in our neighbors laps because the tables were so close together! The Smith had a great atmosphere and overall was very good!
I've been to The Smith several times before and have had good experiences. However, we had terrible service. It took over an hour and a half to get salads for dinner after reminding the waiter 4 times that we hadn't received our food. He kept saying they had big parties which was the delay and kept promising to get the manager but never did. He said he would comp our desserts- but we told him after being at the restaurant for over two hours we had no interest. So all we got for it was cookies to go. The waiter wasn't even apologetic.
Great, as always.
the smith remains one of my favorite brunch spots. the food is solid, although I always order the same thing! (potato waffle benedict)
Had dinner this weekend. Trout special was thin, very 'fishy' and over-cooked. Steak was great however. Slow service. Beautiful bar area.
Simply fun place to be Lively, quick, reasonably priced and makes you feel alive. Try it
Everyone was so nice and friendly. The hostess Shannon was really sweet when she called to confirm our reservation and when we changed our arrival time to 2 hours earlier, she was great about it.
Nice place for work lunch but not very accommodating to a gluten free diet. Very few menu items available without significant alterations. It's strange to see a restaurant of this caliber in New York where hospitality towards people with food allergies is (at best) an after thought.
Had an enjoyable meal. Only drawback was the noise level. Being of the older generation, we found it difficult to have a conversation. \n\nDecided to go elsewhere for coffee and deserts. \n\nOther than the noise level, had an enjoyable meal. Service was good.
Been here before for brunch. Food & drinks always excellent. Service also good.
We went to The Smith for dinner and then for brunch the next day meeting relatives. \nDinner - streak is good, macaroni and cheese is very good. I ordered fish. It was dry, not flakey and even though they said it was fresh it was tasteless and basically inedible. Our waitress never came by after we ordered as they use other people to deliver the food. We had ok Brussel sprouts. Brunch was so incredibly mediocre that I don't even understand why it gets good ratings except for the fact you can make reservations. The coffee was burnt (milk curdles when pored in). There were six of us with six different orders and everyone agreed that the eggs in any manner must have sat around before being served as they were dry or overcooked. It was one step above buffet food that sits around all day. I would not go back unless we needed reservations somewhere on the east side and then I would order a bagel. Their latte, by the way, is terrible and weak. Don't waste your money on that item.
I've been to The Smith 10+ times and it has never disappointed me. The food is always good (and healthy) and the service is always on the mark. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's a very reliable place and that's worth quite a bit in my mind.
Vibrant scene in this midtown location. Been there for brunch many times and never been disappointed at all. Sometimes one has to wait in spite of reservations. But worth it!!
I always know what I'm going to get at The Smith. Good, if a bit overpriced, food; a vibrant, energetic atmosphere (bordering on too loud, but better that than the alternative); solid, if unspectacular, service. Brussels sprouts and shishito peppers are highlights. I steer clear of the entrees; they can get very pricey. But the bar menu is good and so are the 'starters' (large portions). Hint: you can make most of the starters as entree-sized meals.
We were seated a bit late -- not much, but a bit -- but the staff went out of its way to accommodate us. Service was quite attentive, and they even comped our dessert! I was very impressed.
The Smith has a delightful menu with some unusual things on it. Fabulous service with a very well-trained staff. Everything 'works'. The unisex bathroom is a trip. The only downside to this place is that it is very loud.
Met a friend for lunch and the noise level was high. Service was attentive but food was average - veggie bibimbap was ok, the quinoa kale salad (added chicken) was bland and the seared tuna salad was as well. A fun, energetic place to meet for drinks but I would skip the mediocre food.
Great meal. Food was excellent and service exceptional. From the time we were greeted to the end, our every need was ta
I went to The Smith - Midtown for Sunday brunch during a weekend trip to NYC. This place was packed! We arrived at 10:55AM for our 11AM reservation. We were seated about 15 minutes later (not bad at all, considering how many people were waiting!) in a cozy little corner in the back. I was excited for a free bellini with my entree - if you order anything on the left side of the menu, it comes with either a free bellini, mimosa, or passion punch - however I was informed by our waiter that they do not serve alcohol before 12PM. I was a little bummed and if I knew that prior to making my reservation, I may have made it for a later time. The waiter did offer a free juice, though. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Breakfast Pot Pie. So delicious! While it was not what we had expected, it was so good. We had thought the biscuit top would be flakier (maybe crunchier?) but it was a soft layer of cheddar biscuit... similar to the soft middle of a regular biscuit. The pot pie filling with sausage and thick cut bacon was perfection. The heartiness of the meal was exactly what we wanted on a chilly November morning! I will definitely go back to The Smith when I am in town (I had been to another one of their locations before) and I definitely recommend it.
Wednesday fried chicken special was outstanding. Excellent service. Quiet at 6pm, crazy loud by 8pm even in the back room. Poor value on liquor.
The Smith was terrific food and service; however at 7pm on a Wed evening it was extremely noisy - so just know that before you go...
The food was great but much too loud. Did not enjoy having to wait 15 mins for my table even though we had reservations and was not offered a seat at the bar.
I hit-up this neighborhood must every other week it seems, and have tried most options on the menu and have NEVER had anything that disappoints. Though it can be a bit noisy (if you're trying to have a more intimate conversation, ask for a booth), the food is always great tasting, a great value, prompt and served with a smile :)
Easy client lunch, the Mac and cheese was fantastic
Good brunch meeting place but reservations a must. Quite noisy. Breakfast pot pie was good; huge portion. Price included juice. Decaf coffee not very flavorful; turned gray when I added cream.
The Smith has become the go to place for big group, for catching up with friends, and for an energetic atmosphere. But lately, the food just misses. I ordered the pressed chicken, and it was way too oily, as was our sauteed spinach. Again, I would go back, because it is the right atmosphere to meet friends, but I will be more careful with my order. I also have to say that I have several dietary restrictions which The Smith's attentive staff is great at taking care of. \n\nSo to summarize, fun time, attentive staff, but the foodies will be disappointed.
Was pretty excited about checking this restaurant out and went for lunch with a friend. We shared the crispy calamari which would have been crispy if not drowned in the sauce (sauce was tasty so maybe ordering sauce on side would make this dish great). We barely started the appetizer when our mains arrived (I get that you want to seat tables as many times as possible but that was a bit too pushy). Both the tuna burger special and the lobster roll were pretty blund... Some seasoning would have helped both. The fries were great - crispy and hot. Again, we were not even finished when ask if we wanted dessert and when we said no, the bill was dropped and I didn't even have a chance to ask for coffee. This extreme rushing made this not a great luncheon experience. I may give them another chance outside of holiday season.
Took a party of 7 here and everyone enjoyed their brunch. Waffles, pancakes, omelettes, etc were all delicious. Loved that they offered a choice of bellini, bloody mary, mimosa, or champagne with brunch entree. Definitely recommend, definitely get a reservation!!
We had 4 different brunch choices. All were wonderful! Pancakes with caramel sauce and pecans, waffles, corned beef hash, and avocado toast w/ poached eggs. Don't forget scones with candied bacon!! Restaurant walls open so you feel the alfresco dining experience w/o sitting on the dirty sidewalk. A must when in midtown!
We enjoyed a delightful breakfast. One of us enjoyed perfectly made scrambled eggs, the other the tasty avocado toast. Excellent service made for a very enjoyable Saturday breakfast. We would highly recommend this midtown spot.
Always reliably good food, friendly hostesses and good service
Went for lunch for the lobster rolls. Not sure if they changed chefs but the rolls were way too overdressed. The sauce was actually dripping over the sides of the rolls. Lots of lobster meat which we love but lay back on the dressing!!!!!!\nTry to get a table by the open doors. Much quieter, even being on 2nd Avenue!!\nService was very good and friendly. So were the women at the front desk
Our server was very attentive and was there always at the right time. Food was very good. Steak. Oysters, clams were excellent
Waited way too long to order even though the waiter was a nice guy. Just couldn't handle all the guests. Lobster roll was delicious. Chips that come with it were way over seasoned. Will replace with fries next time. Fried fish sandwich was good really because of the delicious sauce on top. Will return and keep our fingers crossed that we will get a better wait person.
great, casual setting with busy atmosphere.\nAnd we love the food - obsessed with the tomato soup! \nUsually have good draft beer selection too
I love the Smith and go often, but today was a very off day. The AC unit was dripping onto myself and my food, and the waiter did nothing about it. The menu is also far superior for Sunday Breakfast/Brunch than Saturday. I would think twice about returning.
The food was excellent but the noise level was very high. Would definitely eat there again.
Great food, always busy, super loud, hard to hear
It was an average breakfast. You could visit when you can't fond anywhere else to eat.
The food is consistently good at The Smith Midtown, however our server (Molly) was a delight and made the dining experience wonderful!
Nice server, good food, youthful lively environment, but CRAZY NOISEY. Met a friend in from out of town and had to SHOUT to hear each other. They need to do something about acoustics.
I mistakenly selected the Smiths for a business dinner. It was SO loud no one could hear each other. It totally defeated the purpose of the dinner. I can't tell you if the food was good or not because it was so loud that's all the group could focus on. Totally killed our night.
Despite reservation, had to wait 25 minutes for a table. Not worth the wait.
The food and service were great. The oysters were fresh and the steak was cooked perfect. My only complaint was it was very loud in the restaurant. Fun load is fine. But we were screaming to hear each other during our meal to the point I lost my voice by the end of the night. Overall it was a great way to celebrate a birthday and the food was worth the trip.
Have been to smith a number of times - the menu is varied - with healthy options as well - but too much salt is used- especially the Mac n cheese and the fried green beans - this time the server got my husbands order wrong - but my friends salmon was perfect - - the big drawback is the noise level - I was sitting almost on top of my friend and could barely hear here- sad because the food really is good but so hard to converse -
The food is great but it is so loud, we were yelling trying to talk to each other . Parking is awful, street parking is next to impossible we had to garage park 3 blocks away. Overall a good restaurant.
This is a very nice brunch spot in New York that is fit for a gathering with both family and friends. The service is great - and the food was delicious.
Nice place, bright and cozy, food its really good, Coffe not that much but ok,
I'm always skeptical when trying new places because I usually end up disappointed.\nThis restaurant made my birthday night a success story! Food- I order the vegetable bibimpap my girlfriends ordered the steak salad, fondue and potato chips, and the burger royale. Each dish (although simple sounding) far exceeded all of our expectations. Our waitress was super friendly and service was on point. She noticed I didn't make much progress on my drink and immediately offered me something in exchange and encouraged me to let her know right away if the next drink wasn't my style as well. The easy rider cocktail wasn't bad it was just WAY to strong for me. I will most definitely be returning with my husband soon.
One of the best restaurant in the city! The smith is my go to restaurant being that I live in the neighborhood! Thanks to open table we got a last minute reservation which is very rare! 11/10 experience as always!
Amazing pancakes
Great food, great atmosphere, poor service
Restaurant was very accommodating as we had a special need. Good food and good service.
I was very disappointed with the service as the servers just weren't attentive at all, ignoring our water, our table, not clearing plates. It started off with not having our table ready when the restaurant wasn't busy, and trying to squeeze 5 adults onto a circular table for 2 when there was a large empty table next to it.
Good for brunch with kids
Good service always
Always reliable, The Smith always feels to me like the quintessential NY restaurant.
The Smith was highly recommended by coworkers. We went for Brunch and the Ricotta Pancakes were out of this world. The place was a bit noisy and the hostess a bit snooty but the server and everyone else were great. The food was delicious as were the drinks and it didn't break the bank. Will definitely go back.
Great ambiance, amazing food, always consistent.
I've had brunch at almost every single restaurant in New York City and honestly dining at the smith has been one of the best brunches I've had this year!! Absolutely delicious!
This was my 3rd meal at the Smith, and although it was very good, it was not as good as previous ones. The Shoshito peppers are still a must to start. We had some other good apps, however the 'hot chips' were cold. Shrimp entree was full of good flavors and my friend enjoyed the bibimbap. However, the Lobster roll special on a Friday was just average and way overpriced. Most of the drinks were good, but the dirty martini was all olive and very little vodka.
Great spot to meet friends. The service is fantastic and we've never been disappointed with anything on the menu. Also . . . . extensive selection of spirits.
Great food at reasonable midtown prices and GREAT service.
Food is great for dinner and brunch. Also a good spot to have a drink if your in the area.
the potato waffles were massive, thought that was great. the BLT and E was just ok. more of a scene than anything else, who knew brunch was popular in midtown east on a sat!
This has always been a favorite, but the recent experience was disappointing. The food was mediocre, and the hosts seemed annoyed we were 'lingering' despite continuing to order top shelf liquor after dinner.
French toast was way too sugary for me.. \nOnly toping was small pieces of banana.. \nNot really mystyle but the service was really great.
The smith is a good all around restaurant for lunch or dinner- nothing fancy but decent cocktails and very nice service. Reasonable finger food.
Very diverse menu with plenty of good options. The ambiance/crowd can be overwhelming and loud which seems to sometimes get to the waitstaff. Strong cocktail menu as well.
What a Fun Spot for Breakfast/Brunch\n\nMy wife and I stopped by Smith Midtown East for breakfast and immediately fell in love. The interior was a mix of old school NYC (subway tile) and modern (lots of wood and black mixed in), with upbeat music setting the mood. Our waiter was very attentive and fun and it was his recommendation to order Dirt Bombs? that really made this a fun memory.\n\nThe Dirty Bombs were served hot and basically consisted of a large doughnut hole with hot syrup on top. Awesome way to start your morning!\n\nMy wife order an omelette while I had the vanilla french toast. Both were amazing as was the coffee.\n\nSmith is now our go-to spot for Sunday breakfast and we may even consider returning for dinner too!
Great food and menu, great atmosphere.
We were the only ones with a child in there during the peak hour of the lunch time. They were able to sit us down in a comfortable place quote quickly. The place is noisy at lunch but still sustainable. Better to be there W/O kids.
I got the Mahi Mahi and I was very disappointed in it. It was a $27 meal, and I wouldn't have paid $10 for it.
Great food. Excellent Eggs Benedict. Excellent dessert options.
Visited on a recent trip to New York. Great atmosphere, trendy vibe. Amazing food and fantastic service. Had dinner here, and returned later in the week to try breakfast. A good desicion .... Huge portions! Would definitely recommend and return next time I am in NYC. \nWell done The Smith!
Way too noisy. \nAll was great but would not go back
The brunch was great! Will definitely return again soon!
Too noisy and loud
We had a great brunch at The Smith. It's a happy placeâ¦very fresh and fun. Service was great. We'll be back.
I took my client here for lunch and I had the pasta lunch. The sauce was terrible and the waiter never asked me how I liked the meal. I ate three bites of the lunch and could not eat any more of it. I paid for the lunch so I did not make a scene in front of my client but my lunch was awful
Had looked at reviews before booking and eventually decided to try with family. Big mistake, the restaurant was so loud everyone had to shout to be heard including the waitress. Food was just okay, nothing special although they did a good Mac and cheese. Service from the servers (not waitress) was really poor, food was dumped down rather than placed..... Overall not best experience for us
Make a reservation, otherwise you'll wait.... it was so loud we could not hear the servers speak. Maybe a table further from the bar would help !
Our server was delightful and when both of our main meals came out of the kitchen incorrect, she was swift and immediately asked the kitchen to remake our meals. The avocado tacos and Mexican corn off the cob are incredible as was the rest of our meal once it was corrected.
We were seated immediately with reservation, even though we arrived 25 mins ahead of our reservation time, and there was a substantial wait otherwise. The service was great, everyone in my party enjoyed their meals. The bloody mary included with the brunch entree was a nice touch. Highly recommend if you are looking for a nice brunch.
Having been to the East Village location many times, we landed at the Midtown East location of The Smith for a birthday dinner. We were a big group with reservations made a month in advance, while our table took a little while longer than anticipated, the staff more than made up for it by bringing a round of appetizers on the house which we so appreciated! Our wait staff were wonderful, the food, no matter what you pick is delicious (but make sure to get a side of mac n cheese!!!!)
I was looking for a place to go to brunch on a weekday because I was spending Monday through Friday with a friend in the area. I was pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant with a good rating that would serve breakfast items until 11:30 on a Friday morning. The egg blt-e croissant sandwich was delicious. The cheddar biscuit was a nice touch. It was comfortable, the bathroom is cool and we had a good time. The coffee kept coming and our waitress was attentive and smiley. All good!
Our server was very nice, the mac & cheese is huge and ohh so delicious. Tuna salad is yum! And Beef salad is really good too. Some how my 7 Y.O. didn't like the burger, I suspect was the tomato sauce.\nAhh Pasion punch is a great drink (absolutely love it)
Everything was great! Food was excellent (even better than some of those chef name-dropping restaurants we visited! We had the pork chop and the mahi - both were fantastic), our server Maggie was amazing and gave us great menu recommendations, and the restaurant looked really cool.\n\nI read that it was very loud, but we had a table in the corner and could hear each other just fine.\n\nA great night and would totally recommend!
Always a great place to go with the family or with for friends.
Too expensive. Lobster roll very small in terms of lobster. Much too loud. Overall, the food is well done, but overpriced considering the ambiance. More of a drink, snack scene than dining experience.
Used to love this place, but this time, although the service was great, the food wasn't great. Fried String Beans were greasy with the coating falling off. The hamburger wasn't bad, but, those tomatoes on the bottom was kind of messy and not very good. And, that horrible mealy stale crusted berry tart had to be one of the worst desserts I've ever had in my life. Just awful!!!
Our server was really nice, but she disappeared after taking our drink order. We kept looking for someone to try and order from, but no one came by. Our potato chips had been long gone by the time we finally ordered. And, we have never gotten past half the bowl when it's just been two of us.
Marks above say it all, great place (food, service, ambiance). Place was popping in the early afternoon (Saturday).
While visiting New York, we ate here twice. Food and service was excellent. It is obvious they train their managers and associates well. Would highly recommend.
The service was excellent! When our large group came in they seated us right away. My friends and I were celebrating my birthday and with only mentioning the occasion for a brief moment in the beginning the waitress remembered and brought out a dessert for with a candle. The food came out quickly and everyone was extremely friendly!
We were celebrating my husbands birthday and although the food was good, the noise level was extremely loud. My husband and I had to talk strain to hear each other over the vibrant atmosphere. The food was ok. The service was great and it was packed! I heard that the brunch was amazing. Will have to go back and check that out.
Everything was totally enjoyed especially the eggs benedict. They truly put the creative spin on breakfast items. The hash browns were awesome!
Excellent food, healthy choices. Can be noisy when full.
Very loud, but very good food. Not at all kid friendly..
Even though I felt very old among the throngs of young people (along with those at our table) at the restaurant, the wait staff was genuinely charming and attentive. Their best attribute is the people that work there, which my husband commented to the manager when we had brunch there a week ago.
Nothing like a good Lobster Roll and a cold summer drink. A great place to hang and catch up with people.
Food reliably good including fabulous oysters. Chicken and waffles a stand-out. This time we had a booth in the corner and it was a welcome respite from the sometimes disruptive noise. Great cocktails, friendly service, terrific energy. We keep coming back.
Love it! Got the vanilla bean French toast and it was delicious!
This is the place to go when you want well-executed comfort food in a cool and fun setting. Service is friendly and efficient. It's crowded and noisy, but its a really good energy. Food is really much better than it needs to be, and the bar is exceptional. Prices are appropriate for the setting. A frequent choice when we want casual but solid dining.
Perhaps several decibels noisier than usual because of St. Patrick's Day crowd, but you don't go here for a quiet meal. Food and cocktails always excellent. Service friendly and generally efficient. Comfortable, energetic vibe. Have never had a bad experience.
Food was delicious. A tad pricey. Can get pretty noisy in there so don't go if you actually need to have a serious conversation. But good atmosphere for an easy dinner out. The ambience is nice - very hipster-chic in midtown.
The Benedict eggs feels like hard boiled!! No bread served what so ever even after we placed the order. Disappointed
Visiting from Houston, my daughter and I came here for brunch and what a treat! Super fresh oysters, amazing lobster hash with delicious vegetables and potatoes and superb Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict. Great service and a great neighborhood-friendly but very cool vibe. Would love to come back.
Our reservation was at 7:30, but the table wasn't ready. We waited at the bar for 30 minutes and didn't eat until 9:15. It is nice, but I wouldn't go back to eat, maybe appetizers and a drink.
The smith midtown is a favorite of mine as its only a few blocks from my apartment. The food is always great and they have added some new things to the menu which are delicious. The chicken paillard is so good and comes with a generous sized salad on the side. The new addition of tuna poke to the menu is amazing and addictive. The service here is ok and it's quite loud, so I wouldn't come here for a romantic occasion. However the food is great for brunch, lunch, and dinner and never disappoints.
I have been this place for weekday lunch a couple of times and I liked the place, so I took my friend for Sunday brunch. It was 2pm, but the place was packed and we could not hear each other due to the noise level. I ordered Smoked salmon eggs benedict. The food came out soon, but I could tell that the food was NOT hot and fresh as the eggs and English muffins were a bit cold and hard... And coffee I ordered after my food was lukewarm :( I was so disappointed and I was trying to ask our waitress to change it, but I did not as we had to leave soon. Only I liked about their Sunday brunch is complimentary drink (only for Sunday).
Salmon tartare with rice cakes was great. would go there again for that and wine at the bar. best tasting broth with mussels I've ever had.
Had a casual working lunch there -- great atmosphere that doesn't break the bank. The Mediterranean salad with chicken was great -- a refreshing meal for a hot summer day. Enjoyed a well prepared latte after finishing lunch. Highly recommend going the few extra blocks if you're normally eating in the Park/Lex zone.
Brunch was delicious and lots of choice. We had the avocado toast w/ poached eggs and Sicilian omelette.
Food is good at a reasonable price. Retro diner bistro combo with a hip, modern feel. Photo booth in the co-Ed bathroom is a fun touch.
I'm not that familiar with the restaurants in midtown and selected The Smith based on the reviews from my fellow Open Table diners. The food was indeed delicious and they easily accommodated our dietary needs. Our server was attentive although he seemed new. We don't know whether this is why our main courses arrived three bites into our salads or if the kitchen simply fired our dishes too soon. Whichever, we resisted the impulse to feel rushed and enjoyed every bite. \n\nAs mentioned in several write-ups, the noise level is ridiculously high. I hope they are able to address the issue since I really can't imagine eating there with a group larger than two.
Service and food were great. The acoustics in the restaurant are poor, making for a pretty noisy experience. It was hard to hear people in my party and I felt like I had to yell to talk with them. Likely won't go back for this very reason.
We drove in from new Jersey for this special occassion for the 5 of us. At first, I was unhappy becasue my table was not ready and there was confusion of the amount of people. I reserved for 5 people, and the restaurant said we made reservation for 4 people and I reserved for 11:45 and they said it was for 12 and table was not ready for a while.
Not a great experience. Food was cold, they got my friend's daughter's order wrong, and they sat 3 of us at table really only big enough for two (even though I had a reservation). Not impressed.
Our waitress was excellent. She took the time to discuss food and drink options. She brought us a taste of wine so that we could make a decision. She was attentive without being a pest. I would go back there in a heartbeat. The food was fabulous as well.
Fun atmosphere, good food
Our dinner at the Smith was made so special by our wonderfully sweet server, Maggie, and of the managers that stopped by to say hi and ask how we were doing. We were treated like friends and the food was absolutely outstanding. I have never had such delicious crabcakes. My boyfriend is a burger connoisseur and he loved his so much, after the first bite he had to put it down just to look at it. Thank you for a wonderful date night. We will most certainly be back!
Huge seating areas to accommodate many patrons. Food is solid for breakfast. Coffee was good. Service was quick. Overall, a good place to eat breakfast.
Great place for brunch. Awesome service, terrific food - a trendy & hip spot to hang!
I loved the spaciousness and the food. I did not get the drink I asked for but what I got was good. The waitress was also attentive and asked frequently if we needed anything. I would definitely go back.
The food was fantastic at The Smith - what most of us consider basics or staples of American cuizine but done right. I've been numerous times but this evening we shared a calamari appetizer, then one of us had the lobster roll and I had the salmon. We also split the brussels sprouts which were cooked and seasoned perfectly! The salmon is also always cooked to perfection. The service was great. It's always very loud there for dinner so I wouldn't go when you need to have an important conversation during your meal, but always an enjoyable time.
Wanted a low key place for a birthday dinner- was perfect. Great food, great drinks, and great service
Best breakfast place in NY! Love the candied bacon and the avocado toast is fantastic! Very busy, high energy place with delicious food and excellent service. Always go here when I'm in NYC!
The Black pasta was amazing!
After a rough start getting seated, good service, food was good...not exceptional, but good. The noise level was as high as the LaGuardia runway. Virtually yelling across the table. Luckily we are two basketball coaches so are used to yelling, but the tables are packed too tightly together and the acoustics seem to be purposefully designed to amplify the buzz but it was so loud my taste buds were dulled. Good luck
Grabbed dinner with girlfriend on a Monday evening - the place was packed and we had to wait for about 15 minutes to be seated. Service was prompt, food was good - we shared the Sicilian cauliflower side (nothing to write home about), the cavatelli (which was very good) and the steak salad (which is always a good, safe choice). Add two glasses of red and the bill came out to $90. The price is a little rich as compared to other great choices in the city but The Smith always delivers a pleasant experience.
We have been a couple of times. The first was for Thanksgiving. The feast they provided us was AMAZING and I really hope we can come back this year! The brussel sprouts are fantastic- as were all of the sides. We brought back my fiancé's father months later for brunch and we were still very happy with our food. The service is truly hit or miss, though. It IS very loud, but it seems the norm for restaurants that are this tasty. It is very popular and a larger space so expect a little craziness at check in.
Excellent food, prompt and attentive service, incredibly noisy place.
Great food! Can be loud once the after work crowd rolls in but as long as you're not looking for a quiet, secluded romantic spot, it's tolerable.
We loved the appetizers but we all thought our main courses were extremely over seasoned. My daughter actually couldn't eat her main course, but our waitress never stopped by to see how the meal was. Additionally, the main course came out while we were still eating our appetizers and they started clearing the plates without asking if we were done. When they came to clear the main course plates they asked if she wanted to wrap up her meal, then she got a chance to say it tasted funny. They did take it off the bill but it would have been nice if they stopped by earlier so she could have ordered something else. All of the main courses had too much salt and too much herbs. I don't think I can ever eat anything with tarragon again - the thought kind of sickens me.
The Smiths is always a fun place to visit. The food is excellent and the crowd is lively to say the least. It's one of those places that is ALWAYS busy. For that reason book in advance. The wine list is functional, however, the drinks are especially good. It's a terrific spot for locals and out-of-towners alike. We particularly like the brunch menu.
I always need to go here every time I visit the city
Came here on the 4th of July for a boozy brunch with a few girlfriends. Not nearly as busy than other days that I have seen it making the noise level perfect for talking-to and not yelling-at conversation. The bloody mary was disappointingly mild in terms of flavor and the mimosas were as expected. Macaroni and cheese was, by far, the best dish that we had: gooey and cheesy with a crisp broiled crust. Kale salad was good but overdressed and the oysters left all of us with an upset stomach. Great indoor-outdoor layout and extremely visually appealing - clean, black and white tiles and features throughout. Our waitress was pleasant when she made the point to actually come to our table, otherwise was very inattentive and seemed to be unaware of our attempts to get her attention for refills and extra silverware. Would try to go back another afternoon just for the pleasant venue itself and try new/hope for better drinks and dishes.
The food is always great and there is nothing bad about the place except it gets louder each time.
The Smith is a great reliable place. It's that perfect in between kind of place where you can dress it up or dress it down depending on the occasion.
Wonderful place. Fantastic food. Great service. Just a tad noisy. However, I'd return and recommend to all I know.
I've been to The Smith countless times, it is a reliable stand-by for me. Food is always good and the servers are always friendly...BUT...almost every time we book there our table is not ready at the stated reservation time and we end up waiting by the bar for 10-20 minutes. I usually don't get too uptight about that, I don't mind a pre-dinner drink and a busy restaurant is usually a sign of a good restaurant. But at The Smith it seems to happen every time so I'm taking a star off the overall and service categories. I'll still go back though.
Food and drinks took forever- table sat after us were done before we received dinner. Waitress rarely followed up why delay. Gnocchi delish, shrimp grits great, lobster roll below average. Little lobster, stale cold bun. Long story, waitress rude when we simply wanted to leave without comp dessert. Bad experience in end. Didn't need free food, just wanted great dinner without hassle.
Really fun spot with great food and service. Such a gem in NYC. Reasonably priced.
Their recently changed menu is more expensive and less good. Their new burger is legit a fancy Big Mac. Bring back the old special sauce!
Was recommended the Prime Rib Thursday Special by the waitress and boy it didn't disappoint. Fantastic flavour and really filled the spot, one of the best meals I have ever tasted. The steak was exceptional and would recommend to anyone whether a steak lover or not!
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner with co-workers. We had a table of five, next to the open wall to the sidewalk. Great people watching as the world walked by, superior service with a smile and helpful recommendations, loved the drink menu. We had from fish to hamburgers and both exceeded expectations. The signature smores dessert was equally matched by the rest (we almost exhausted the dessert menu and passed plates around the table, one better than the last). Delightful all around and very reasonably priced.
I must be getting old as the place is very noisy. The 'subway' style tiles on the walls are an acoustical problem, especially when seated against the wall.
I just finished the Queens 10k and our waitress was practically as proud of me as my mom and boyfriend were! This was he first time my mom met my boyfriend and The Smith was the perfect place for them to meet.... Very casual and fun atmosphere :) I'll definitely be returning to this, not so hidden, gem!!
The restaurant was very crowded. It could be that it was Father's Day or perhaps this is the\nnorm for Sunday brunch--don't know since this was the first time we'd ever been there.\nIt was quite noisy as we entered and I asked that we find another table. The receptionist led us to\nanother table which was better, but there still were loud conversations. Our server, Colin, was very nice and amenable. My fellow diners liked their dishes. My dish came out cold with the cheese inside the omelette not at all melted. I could have asked that it be brought back, but didn't because I was so hungry. The others who worked there were also very nice and accommodating. Overall, I'd say it was a fair experience. I am not rushing to go back.
I was early so I had a drink at the bar. Best Jalapeno Margarita I ever had. Delicious. \n\nWe had the Grilled Shrimp and Braised Short Ribs, both delicious. The Spicy Salmon Tartare appetizer was fabulous.\n\nI will definitely go back there. Love the atmosphere.
The food was delicous. The price fixe was good value. Menu was very varied. The only thing i did not care for was one desert, the pumpkin cheese cake. Everything else was great!
The thanksgiving dinner was absolutely delicious with generous servings served by friendly waiters. Will definitely do thanksgiving at the smith again or dinner in general.
Went for brunch with two friends. Food was good drinks even better, liked the neighborhood vibe. Did feel a bit neglected and wondered if because 3 women dining and some feel tips are not as good. Just an observation as to attention towards others.
Came here for lunch at 12pm on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised by the food !! I ordered the seared tuna salad, which tasted delicious and a good portion. The lobster roll stole the show !! Although a bit expensive ~30 bucks .. Super delicious and came with these spiced up potato chips !! We were feeling extra fancy and decided to order dessert... Was not that great I would just stick to lunch . We had the carrot cheesecake and the cheesecake part was still frozen when served to us. It was finally the normal temperature by the time we finished. All in all a good lunch during the work week in midtown east !
We did not stay .... I have been in many restaurants ..the noise level was unbearable ... You would have had to scream just to carry on a conversation ...unacceptable.
Probably the best brunch we've had in months! Very busy, and noisy but overall excellent.
Great brunch!
Hip, vibtrant, hot spot conveniently located on 2nd Ave with great food, beverages and fun! Extremely eclectic menu with great daily specials and reliable creative staples. Multiple appitizers at the bar make for a great casual gathering or even where one is comfortable dining alone. My new Midtown favorite.
I made reservations for 7:30 p.m. and I was amazed that there was a table ready when i arrived with my party\nToo Noisy but its expected in New York. Besides that the atmosphere is dynamic and energetic. Food is very tasty. I would love to go back soon
Everything was delicious and the place is so cool! Our waitress was great as well.
I've been here about 4 times, and this is a fun place for brunch with your friends or date.
I was meeting my dad for dinner and it was a great place to catch up being that the noise level suited us (we are kind of loud laughers). We thought that it would take forever for food to come and it didnt even on a busy Friday night, the portions were huge for both appetizer and dinner so we brought food home. Our server was great and nice was attentive but not pushy. We had a great time and I will definitely be going back, now that I know there is a unisex bathroom
I told the waiter about my allergy. The manager then came out and explained how having a 'red flag' in the food meant the kitchen has confirmed that the allergy has been taken into account. The problem here was, even though I had an actual red flag on my food, my allergy WAS NOT checked for. If I didn't realize before I took a bite, I would have been rushed to the hospital. Really happy I realized.
Went for late lunch. No Pasta? Except Macaroni and Cheese?? Had a Grilled Chicken Sandwich; Chicken was great but that sauce was dreadful!! Was a little disappointed, but, I still love the place. They need to put that Cavatelli on the lunch menu. I had such a desire for it and no way!! Oh well, I'll remember to do dinner or brunch on Sunday like I usually do. I still recommend this place . Always a friendly, happy place!!
Been here many times before and loved it, but this time portions were smaller and service was slower. Disappointed.
Things are not as great as they used to be. Passion punch was like 90% ice (I know it's free). My pot pie was a very soupy mess covered by what was like a doughy roti. My partners waffle was delivered in pieces. Overall, not very appetizing. But, the doughnuts were pretty good. We eat here often and it just doesn't seem as good as it used to be. Too bad. I really like the place. Some of the bus staff seemed a bit unhappy, too. Go figure.
I thought the food was great. Nice selection on the menu and service was fast.
Always great food!!!
We love this spot, but the noise level has gotten a bit much.
I went here for brunch. We were seated quickly (because we had a reservation, without one people were having to wait so make a reservation!) Even though the restaurant was very busy the waitress was very attentive. I had the salmon eggs Benedict and my friend had the french toast with a side of bacon - both were very delicious! highly recommend!
Loved the atmosphere, comfy banquets. Scones were outstanding as was the lemon aioli. A bit pricey for breakfast but delicious.
Energetic
our waitress was rude. Kept bringing us the check without asking if we were done yet. And we weren't!
Fantastic food ! Fantastic service !
Easy booking\nVery expensive \nVery noisy\nNot clear on the Bill Wotherspoon gratuity\nI Will not recommend
Delicious food, flavors really worked together. Appetizer, entree and dessert really delicious!
Big salad as it is called on the menu is actually small and not very tasty. Very disappointing.
Love the ambience and the service was excellent. The food was hit and miss - lovely fresh OJ, coffee good and really excellent bacon. But the omelette was COLD with a pile of unmelted cheese in the middle and spikey Rosemary leaves in it which do not go in a fines Herbes omelette for just that reason. No toast was provided which amazed me and bottled water was just brought to us without asking - I didn't pay but I hope they weren't on the bill. Such a nice place - a few tweaks and it would be excellent!
The restaurant is great the food too but the place is too noisy\nGreat for family
Follwed this place on IG for months and anticipated how great the food would be but it was a major let down. The mac and cheese was all looks and nothing special. The restroom was a major turnoff.
I highly recommend the Smith for their great food and ambiance.
We went for an evening meal with kids. It was a great place, lively atmosphere, great decor. Service was very good and the food was excellent. Wine was a little pricey though. Although they were accommodating with the kid's food choices, cooking plain salmon without sauce for example, they didn't offer any options of half portions or kids menu which meant the bill was high and there was a lot of wasted food! Overall a really cool place but maybe not for families with a budget of any kind.
Great and hip neighborhood place, and also great as a destination for those outside of the neighborhood. Always lively, and for people of all ages. Any time I bring someone they like it.
Was rather disappointed with the restaurant. We had the Burger Royale & Crispy Flounder Sandwich. The patty of the burger was so dry, we didn't finish half of it & yet the server did not follow up. The flounder sandwich fared better but had only tiny portion of apple slaw & tartar sauce. The only saving grace was the chips. As it was a weekday lunch, the place was crowded & due to the hard surfaces all round, the noise level was almost intolerable.
Hustling and always busy. Lots of young people out from work and still in suits and dresses in business attire. Great food and excellent bar.
Fun, easy, friendly service, tasty food. Stopped in with a friend for brunch on a beautiful day. Sat by the open full length window. Food was perfect for brunch. The atmosphere made lingering over yummy cocktails inviting.
Amazing place
Jace the manager was extremely helpful with navigating the menu for my children with food allergies.
Food service etc are all good. However, the noise level is very loud so not a comfortable environment to talk. They should consider acoustical materials to place on the ceiling to cancel out some of the noise.
So loud we could barely have a conversation.
Great service, fast, good food. Lobster roll was good for Friday special. Biggest complaint is the noise level. Very loud.
Great time w my two kids (16 and 11). Plenty of options in the menu and a great family atmosphere. Pre-theatre dinner kicked off a fun night!
Always a good time at The Smith. Relaxed atmosphere with an upbeat crowd. Food is reasonable and relatively good. Good place to grab a casual dinner with friends.
I walked in and had higher hopes. The drinks were great, but it was very loud. I could't hear my friend and this was at the dinner table. The food was not good. I ordered the fried chicken special. These people have never made fried chicken, the breading fell off and it was kinda crispy. The pieces were huge, but it didn't matter since the flavor wasn't there. No idea whats going on back there. I'd come back only because the drinks were excellent and the appetizers from other tables and the one we ordered (mac and cheese) was good. Overall, for the prices, they need to try harder.
We went there for brunch on Sunday. It was great. The food was fresh and well presented. The service was good. At brunch a cocktail was included with the price. I had the watermelon fizz and my friend had the bloody Mary - both were excellent. The avocado toast was fresh and rich. Everyone loved their dishes. Many things on the menu looked good. We will defiantly be back!
The Smith is very lively w/ comfort food. The Chicken Palatd was too peppery the nose level is deafening but it's youthful lively and joyful to go to.\nIt's a fun dining experience.
The avocado egg Benedict's were amazing and the berry pie outstanding will definitely go back !!!!
Excellent brunch with friends. Very good service. Friendly and attentive.
We come here all the time for a great set of comfort offerings in a pleasant setting. Always pleased with the service and have been more than happy with the correction of the occasional fax pas. Management is very smart. Even the stroller set can't keep us away for brunch. Come and enjoy the Avacado toast!!!
The tuna poke appetizer was mediocre, but other than that everything was great.
Really great mid town brunch spot. Will go back for sure!
Great potato chips with melted blue cheese, burrata and pork chop. All fabulous. Very loud restaurant.
An overall delicious meal but the stand out phenomenal crab cake tots completely stole the show!
Great service and attitude from staff members. Bar was well staffed. They handled the crowd and people waiting very efficiently and did not pressure guests. The only downside at all for the place was the noise level. Energetic is one thing. Not being able to hear the people sitting across from you is another. Overall I would absolutely recommend and look forward to returning myself.
I love the menu, I love the food, but The Smith is just too damn loud. It's so unpleasant to be sitting with friends and have to scream at each other to be heard. I totally understand wanting to have a high-energy bar area, but the owners really should find a way to make at least one area in the restaurant tolerable for those people who actually want to talk to each other.
excellent food and a menu variety to please everyone.
I've been to The Smith before and it never disappoints. Brunch cocktails are always delicious and the food is amazing. I never stray from the avocado toast, but my friends tried other dishes that looked tasty as well!\nThe one thing I will say is that the table we were seated at was definitely small for the four of us. Only downside was feeling crammed.
I decided on The Smith due to my granddaughter's finicky appetite (she is 7). My granddaughter and adult niece really enjoyed our food and the lively energy of this spot. The staff was more than welcoming and accommodating. while it is not actually a 'kids' restaurant, they were able to produce a menu of childrens favorites for us. Great time.\n\nDeirdre
Thoroughly enjoyed our brunch on Mother's Day. We were seated within two minutes of our reservation. Our waitress was friendly and answered any questions we had for her. Three of the four of us ordered the Avocado Toast and it was fabulous! We all thought we wouldn't be able to finish it, but it was so good, we had to! The other order was for traditional Eggs Benedict and it was also excellent!
Just had a super awesome experience in 'the Smith'. Food was absolutely delicious and the services are great. Waiters are super friendly and they make sure you will get your food quickly and makes your water glasses full all the time.
A fun and energetic place and one of the best spots in the neighborhood! The cavatelli is my favorite dish!
Very good food. Great scene, but very noisy
Always a great visit. Great food, service, ambiance. Always well done.
Our Nth time here. We waited 20 minutes for our table, but they kept us updated. The food was fine as usual and our server was excellent. All I all, a worthwhile visit. We come here every time we go to New York.
The service was great and the food was wonderful.
Amazing breakfast! Service was great and the food was delicious
The food is fabulous, the service terrific, but the noise levels are always way to high.
I love the smith but on this evening the food was way too spicy. Flatbread.. Spicy. Paella.. Very spicy. A chef who needs to much spice is hiding the fact that he's not very good.
Saturday Piaella!! Always awesome. Great value and service. Will be back
The food was very good, a little expensive. The dishes were not very large, which you would not expect for brunch, but that's healthier, right?
Food was good but a COCKROACH walked by us while we were finishing dinner!! We had out of town cousins visiting and were mortified. We've eaten at the smith a ton but this unacceptable.
When I checked in, I was told that when all the parties arrived then they would seat us. When I notified them that the parties had arrived, I waited an additional 20 minutes and saw they were seating the same number of parties that had arrived after us.
Love the food
This was my third time at the Smith, and was the time which left me least-impressed. The restaurant is always busy, with crowds even at peculiar times of day.\n\nThe server checked on our party three times over 2 hours, and I had to flag down another server in order to pay the check. \n\nMy companion had a French Toast, which was very, very good; well made and well balanced with banana undertones. My eggs benedict, however, will quite overdone and quite marginal.\n\nThis is a fun place with a lively atmosphere, and generally good food at a decent value. Nothing special, but certainly a good spot for a bevy of different occasions.
The braised short ribs were nice... the follow up service from the restaurant manager was really great and the staff showed a great attitude about making sure you truly enjoy your dining experience. They really do care about having a great dining experience!
Dishes were quite tastey, cooked perfectly and service very attentive. Thank you.
Absolutely loved it!!!! The food and drinks were amazing
Surprisingly great food for a touristy location! Go for brunch. Small portions but good quality. Expect it to be bustling and crowded!
We had reservations for 8:00pm on a Tuesday. We arrived at 7:52 and gave the hostess our name. We were seated a bit late, at 8:10. \n\nOur server was quick, knowledgable of the menu, and polite. \n\nThe drink menu is as large as the food menu, which is nice- I appreciate the variety. I drank a glass of reisling (which was just the right amount of sweetness) and my husband had two Allagash Whites. We ordered the crispy calamari appetizer, which came with a delicious, but spicy, red sauce. I ordered the mussels & fries. The mussels were in a white sauce, which was a bit over salted. The fries were crunchy and flavorful. My husband had the Long Island duck, which was cooked with a cherry sauce and served over polenta. His meal was perfectly cooked and seasoned. For dessert we had cappuccino and a hot fudge sundae. The vanilla ice cream and fudge sauce were great, though the dark chocolate almond bark that came with was too salty. I'm usually a fan of sweet and salty together, but this particular time it wasn't great. \n\nThe bill came to $117 and change for the two of us.\n\nOverall, it was a rather pleasant experience. I'm not dying to go back, but I certainly would if a friend or relative wanted to dine there, or if we were attending an event in the area.
We were seated quickly with our reservation. Good food, attentive service, and the drinks were delicious! Great brunch spot!
The scene is great, as always. If it's a good meal you desire, you will not find it here anymore. Portions have been cut in half since the restaurant opened. The format of the servings, and ingredients, have also been altered. The staff is still wonderfu
if you are under 30, don't mind yelling across the table at your companion and enjoy 'hanging out like you're still in college' this is your kind of place. My ears were ringing by the time I left. The food was over salted and my dessert order totally forgotten. When it finally arrived - (would have liked it better with my espresso) - the manager was apologetic and did not charge me for it. So points for that but I couldn't have gotten anyone's attention anyway to advise them that I was WAITING for more than 10 minutes.
The Smith is one of my favorite restaurants for drinks and dinner. The food is super fresh, the service is always on point, and the atmosphere is amazing! It also helps that it's walking distance from my job so I can pop in for a mid day drink or bite if need be. Can't wait for my next trip!
My gf and I brought my mom here for birthday brunch. It was hopping! We had a reservation and were seated pretty promptly. Our server was polite and attentive; we made a few special requests and she was very accommodating. Also, she was close at hand the whole time we were there, which was great. Sometimes a server brings your meal and then you never see them again, but not so at The Smith. They have a fun cocktail menu, I'd been for drinks before, but if you order from the left side of the brunch menu you get a complimentary (basic) brunch cocktail, which is a nice touch. The food itself was excellent, the portions are big and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. I tried some of everything (expressly so that I could write this review and not because I am a glutton, at all). The breakfast pot pie is enormous and delicious. The avocado toast is perfect if you don't want to go crazy with sausage and eggs, but probably used 1.5 whole avocados because it was also a good sized portion. I had the Sicilian baked eggs based on reviews, and they totally lived up to the hype. Also, I love really spicy food so when a menu item says 'spicy' I'm always ready to be disappointed. I'm happy to say that the Sicilian eggs had a respectable kick! All in all I would strongly recommend The Smith, and I'll certainly be returning soon.
Looking for 'comfort food' lunch on a cold, rainy February day, Smith was perfect: chicken pot pie for wife (and real hot chocolate); generous steak salad for me. Attentive service, somewhat loud atmosphere, but overall a good choice.
Our server was very sweet and helped to make the evening enjoyable. The appetizer crab cakes were delicious and my bibimbap was the best I've ever tasted. My husbands steak could have been more flavourful and there were too many French fries. The restaurant has a great vibe and is a lot of fun. I would return.
Too loud to have a normal conversation. Was hoping for a new mid-town regular lunch spot but this wont be it unfortunately. Had chicken paillard salad which was fine - nothing special.
The Smith was a very energetic place. The food was incredible and it was actually quite difficult to choose what we wanted. The cheddar biscuits are a must! The vanilla bean french toast was incredible and cooked perfectly. The bananas were a nice addition to make the dish not too classic. The best part was the brunch comes with a free punch, bellini or bloody mary. I definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a trendy, modern, chic and unique food list.
The eggs benedict over the potatoes waffles are a ' must ' , also for whom is hungry I recommend steak and eggs ... and my kids they really enjoyed the maccheroni & Cheese !
I read reviews before choosing this restaurant, so I was properly warned about the noise level, but honestly, it was deafening in there. I have never been in any restaurant anywhere that was even close to this noise level. I could not wait to leave. However, we stayed because my grandson is a very picky eater and this menu had things that he would enjoy. The service was awful...we waited at least 15 minutes before someone took our drink order. Food was very slow to arrive, and various wait staff would come and go. It was hard to know who our server was. The food was decent, but nothing special at all. I will never visit one of these restaurants again.
OUr server was outstanding OMAR! we had just gotten into town and he was so helpful!! Our food was fabulous and our entire evening was wonderful!
Friendly, good food and convenient.
Great find in Midtown. Food and service both great. Breakfast pot pie was comfort food goodness and the home fries were some of the best I've ever had.
Had a great meal with great service, great vibe, would highly recommend
This place is worth a visit! Deep menu with a lot of nice options. Food was really excellent as was the service.
The NY Strip was fantastic. The staff was very responsive to being alerted of a food allergy in our party. The noise level was a bit too high for our taste.
Wonderful experience. Met up with some friends for dinner. Amazing salmon. Everything on the menu looked great, my friend had the burger and loved it, other friend had the pork chop and raved about the taste. The only meal that wasn't amazing was the steak salad, it was sub par for the price, but the rest was good! Would recommend!
Exactly what you order is what you get. Good food and good times!
Met up with friends here, location is convenient if you need to be in midtown. Hostess was rude and wouldn't seat our group of 3 until the 4th arrived, even though we had previously explained the 4th would only be having a drink and leaving and that we planned to order our food right away (we had already ordered apps at the communal bar). Another guy at the front seemed to understand and told us to come up from the communal table. We give up our seats at the bar, come up to the front, and the rude hostess told us to wait. She left us standing there holding our full glasses of wine and a huge bowl of our half-eaten appetizer. We had to find the other host to get seated, and they shoved us in a tiny table in the bar that was really for 3 people even though there were plenty of other tables available. Not a great way to treat customers who are clearly ordering and intend to keep ordering. Food is mediocre but good enough. It's super loud with a busy bar. If you're eating at a table near the bar, be prepared for people to bump you with their bags as you're trying to eat dinner. Waitress was fantastic.
Great food, good service, but extremely noisy. I would go back at 2 instead of 1.
Incredible service. Seamless service from the bar to the reserved table.
This was my wife and my first time in NYC and we wanted a great place for a brunch. We found great reviews for The Smith in Midtown and it lived up to them all. Great food, great waitress, and nice environment. I'd go back for sure.
Met a friend for lunch mid-week, and had an excellent experience. I have food allergies and confirmed that the item I was planning to order didn't contain anything that I couldn't have. Not only did the server confirm this for me, but the manager came over personally a few min later to let me know that they had talked to the chefs and let them know my allergy. What a pleasure to have such a personalized experience - while unnecessary for the manager to come over, it really showed their dedication to service. Food was great! Thank you!
The menu here is one of those where you can't decide what you want, because everything sounds so good. Comforting without being boring. Moderately priced, large portions. Mac and cheese is always great. Our server was excellent and fun. The photobooth in the basement wasn't working, sadly, but otherwise the ambience was great.
We went to The Smith for Sunday bruch on a trip to NYC. The restaurant was busy but the service was outstanding and the food was very good. Nicely designed restaurant, good menu with something for everyone, I would highly recommend The Smith. Heads up, co-ed bathroom which confused a few people, yes you are in the right bathroom regardless of gender - well designed too so just go with it.
Great bar scene, very loud it's hard to have a conversation.
Have been many time before, but in this visit felt the brunch menu needs tweaking and the staff was more disorganized than usual.
The Smith was good. Loved the space and the food was good. I would like it to have a few more regular items for brunch! The jalapeño corn muffins were excellent! I'll go back
we had a great sunday morning breakfast. the service was excellent, the food very good and a fun place all around. do not go without reservations! also, no alcohol is served until 12:00 p.m. :(
Group of six looking for somewhere to have breakfast, thanks to Open Table came here! Not disappointed! Great interesting menu, good service and just super nice people!
It's so loud in there. It's very hard to have a conversation in the restaurant. But the food is pretty good.
Food is good but it's very loud
Enjoyed spicy salmon on crispy rice, pressed chicken (although the tikka sauce was strange and glad we had that on the side) and buratta w tomatoes was yummy. S'mores in a jar good choc mouse and topping but wish marshmallows had been melted into the jar as well. Lively environment. Good dependable spot.
This place was vibrant on a sunny Sunday for brunch. The staff was very attentive and quick with serving food. If you ordered from a certain portion of the menu you got a free cocktail! Definitely will be back!
We love to plan a visit to The Smith when we're in NYC. We go to the midtown location because it's close to our favorite hotel. The food is always great. Be sure visit the photo booth downstairs!
They don't know how to cook stake, they screwed up medium well twice. I'm not sure if they where training new people but the wait staff did not know what they where doing. However, the manager, bartender, and hostess where every accommodating.
Overall good...service a little slow! I asked for no onion and my plate had onions!
Our server Craig was amazing! We were seated at a table near the waiter station and asked the floor manager to move to a different table- they actually said no! Craig promised us if we stayed in his area we wouldn't regret it and we didn't. His suggestions were on point and his hospitality was best in class. The portions were large and everyone in our party was happy.
I would recommend The Smith, the Mac and cheese of to die for.
Great food, service, lively crowd. Drinks are well made and food is delicious.
Nice little bites Our server was wonderful. Too much spice on too many items. I get that is the trend, but it is not for all. Loved the many choices. The potato chips with hot cheese were outstanding. May sound silly, but the bottles of water on the table was appreciated. Very European.
Overall, The Smith was m
