9.5 Excellent
Pros: The most comfy hostel in my Kyushu trip and very big area for you to put luggage and walk around. Love all the details of the hostel! Everything is so cute ! And also love the heater in the shoes cabins! I wet my shoes because it was raining the day before, the host ask me to put my shoes in the cabinet. And the next day, they are dry! And I can wear them out again ! The bed is super comfy for me and I am find with the pillow too.
Cons: Need to bring your own shampoo and bath gel, they don’t provide free one but you do can buy with them if you didn’t bring it. Is not a big issue for me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was so beautiful, the room, shower, toilet, the whole hostel was really nice!! And the people were so nice and kind. Love it there. When I will go to Kumamoto again I will definitely choose this hostel!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The host was so kind he is the most kind person for my life. And every things was clean.
Cons: Shower room is only 2 so need to wait night time as well toilet too. One thing I want to change was hair dryer box that is so small to put dryer. Worry if I might drop dryer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thank you for a lovely stay. The most comfortable beds on my trip so far, lovely living room and decor and great advice and service. Really enjoyed my time here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a special and thoughtful hostel. I absolutely loved the decor and tatami style rooms. The terrace was beautiful both during the day and also when lit up with the fairy lights at night. I loved the dyeing workshop they had available for the guests! It was lots of fun to experience this style of wax dyeing and to be able to bring home something to remember Kumamoto by! My stay was ever so relaxing and I loved every part of it!! Such good air con in the sweltering Kumamoto summer heat.
Cons: Nothing! However it isn’t the most social hostel, but more of a relaxing hotel with shared spaces.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the most beautiful hostel I have ever visited in Japan! The owner is really kind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice host and beautiful place. Its definitely an interesting experience!
Cons: We need some luck for the roommate.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Cosy atmosphere, clean facilities, walking distance to Kumamoto Castle (although it was under renovation during my stay) and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Also enjoyed the view from the rooftop!!
Cons: The private room is quite small without any windows - ideal if you're on a budget and only staying a few nights
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It's a really nice guest house. I love the space in the rooftop, it's lighted up beautifully at night. The staff is friendly.
Cons: It's a bit difficult to move around because of the bed's arrangement.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, warm decor made me feel right at home. It was immaculately clean! Comfy beds and great wifi. The lounge was an amazing place to wind down after a big day and also provided plenty of social opportunities. I met some great like-minded people! I would definitely come back to Aso again and stay here once more! The staff were also ever so friendly and helpful. Thank you!
Cons: Not from personal experience as I bathed at the nearby onsen during my stay, but I heard from someone else that the shower only lasts 10 seconds before you have to push it to turn on again! Apart from that, absolutely nothing!!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice community area and a good base for the area
Cons: There is a gravel car park that makes suitcases difficult.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A hostel in Aso with a good atmosphere. Nice rooms, good kitchen and other facilities The staf is excellent and helpfull. It is really close to the station (only a few hundred meters walking where also the bus to the vulcane departs), a supermarket and a little bit the rice fields. The rooms are efficient and there are plenty showers / toilets.
Cons: The weather:)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I left my ipad in hostel and the host sent me back. Million thanks! Everything is perfect.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfy beds! Clean and organized hostel with tons of information about the area!
Cons: All good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really awesome Guesthouse! Over the last weeks I stayed in a lot of places, but this one really stands out. The feeling of a lodge right at the bottom of Mt. ASO. Everything is clean and new and the rooms are decorated with warmth and love to detail. I recommend to start an early walk at six o clock when no cars or busses are there. The road up to Mt aso reveals some amazing views and you can walk up to three or four different peaks. Even so the way to the crater was closed, I enjoyed the long walk and had nice experiences :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Interior of the house is great. The house looks rather simple from outside. But inside is full of surprise. House owner paid great attention to arranging the furniture, utilities, and decorations. Everything has its own function and is cute at the same time. Extremely clean (unless fellow housemates did not properly clean after themselves)
Cons: Fellow housemates. On my second night, a group of tourists were noisy and made the toilets messy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Lovely common areas - so we’ll cared for (including a fully equipped kitchen, ready to use). Lots of helping info posted and available in person!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hostel, with perfect location and everything you need. Very comfortable and has a nice atmosphere that makes you feel at home
Cons: I loved it there, but the wifi wasn’t always working very well in my dorm room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The place is really good for meeting people!
Cons: Theoretically, you can hike up to Aso volcano and staff can provide you a really nice map that you can bring for your hiking. Unfortunately, staff didn't tell me that the hiking path can be closed. If I remember well, it can be closed from April to November (cows are grassing). You have to phone someone to know if you can hike or not during this period (the phone number is written on the map) and unfortunately staff doesn't do this job. So be careful... Otherwise you will have to hike near the road (no place for pedestrians) or do some hitchhiking (which is not so popular in Japan).
Wakka - Minamiaso - Building
3
9.3 Excellent (164 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Minamiaso, Wakka is within a 15-minute drive of Shirakawa Springs and Mt. Aso. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We added on the breakfast and dinner option and did not regret. It was a spread worthy of a ryokan, and the presentation and quality of the food was all spectacular. The room was clean and had every amenity you could need, including a toaster, microwave, stove, kettle and medium fridge. I could honestly imagine living there for a long time!
Cons: There was a large bath located in between the two rooms, but because it was the only bathroom, and the tub took really long to fill, we couldn't enjoy it fully without fear of inconveniencing others.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owners were super nice. Breakfast (optional) was superb. Great location - quietest spot in Japan.
Cons: Cold concrete outside shared bathroom (it was mid winter and freezing cold). Timber decking would be great as an improvement.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean hotel Staffs are really perfect
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quiet location with a great view of Mount Aso. Very friendly owners and a delicious breakfast.
Cons: Not much to not like but we noted that the beds were a little uncomfortable for our liking whereas the futons were very good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is one of that little gems that you can’t believe you’ve found! We loved staying here! It’s serene and quiet and the views are stunning. Try the food because Hiroaki knows his way around the kitchen! He and his wife Noriko are lovely people and they will look after you very well!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The cabin is private and comfortable. The facilities are good. The view is splendid.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality of owner has been wonderful. The food provided has been excellent. The view of the place is fantastic.
Cons: The location of the hotel is a bit inconvenience but worth it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A cosy, quiet and quaint house located in the mountain. Dinner was great- the hosts previously worked as soba chefs and their handmade soba was delicious. The hosts were really hospitable too, they packed us home cooked onigiris when we checked out for us to eat along our road journey. They were also helpful with suggesting places to visit around the area. And the bonus was that they have a very cute family cat.
Cons: The room was not very big, but this should be expected of a mountain cabin. The common showers are located in the next room, hence you have to get out into the cold for a few seconds in order to access the shower. However, this wasn’t a problem for us as we decided to drive to the onsen nearby (about 15 min drive away) for a dip and shower at the same time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: friendly owners
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view from the window, a bit hard to reach but overall a very good experience
Kurokawa Onsen Yamabiko Ryokan - Aso - Building
4
9.0 Excellent (514 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at KUROKAWA ONSEN YAMABIKO RYOKAN in Minamioguni (Kurokawa Onsen), you'll be steps from Yamakawa Onsen and a 4-minute drive from Meotodaki Fall. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic setting and I like the way you organize the meals in a separate building outside of the bedrooms and also the diversity of hot spring pools available. This improves both privacy and flexibility and diversity of experience. It was luxurious to have the outdoor pools mostly to myself both in the morning and evening during my stay, so that was a special treat. Of course the food was outstanding, so overall a wonderful relaxing stay in a wonderful place! Also I really appreciated the XXL yukata! Made a big difference for a big person! Domo Arigatou!
Cons: Air conditioner blows cold air on the futon. Easily adjusted but had to fool with the A/C settings and move the bed several times to keep that from getting difficult for sleeping. I would not call this a problem, just something to think about when you are setting up the rooms for guests to sleep. Also likely does not matter as much in the winter when people are trying to stay warm not cool :)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: fantastic onsen - particularly public bath but also the family rooms. good breakfast. big room. location convenient.
Cons: the price - since they charge per person and we were a family of six the room rate was quite exorbitant for what we got. Little too big - i expected more of a small family-style place.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very authentic Japanese Onsen. Staff was very friendly. Onsen nice and clean. Private Onsen a Dream, especially the Stone Onsen. Very recommendable! Food was outstanding and pure Japanese style, very good!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good onsen. Private onsen provides. Good view from the room. Nice dinner
Cons: Staffs can speak English well but seem not friendly as other.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We are lucky there is a staff from Hong Kong conducting working holiday. They schedule him to serve the meal, which is fantastic for us to distinguish the food.
Cons: I want to drink a coffee milk after the onsen at night.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor hot spring is awesome
Cons: Food is beautiful but taste so so
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The 'rotenburo' was stunning. And the private baths make the experience in this ryokan unforgettable.
7.5 Good
Pros: The beds were super comfy. Nice food but not accommodating. Onsen was very enjoyable.
Cons: Dinner option was not given to us at the point of booking. Emailed staff but it was too last minute and was very pricey. Ended up having no dinner provided for us. Not adaptable to unforeseen circumstances such as last minute dinner arrangements. First time Travellers may not know how secluded the Ryokan is and where to find food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole place is so beautiful, and the 5 private onsens are wonderful and always available to use. Amazing meals are served in a private room ... You get what you paid though weekends rates can be much higher ... for a special occasion get a room facing the river.
Cons: Price wise I think its still on the high side comparatively.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location in the nature, much better than many Ryokan in the area. Great choice of hot springs inside the premises (6 hot baths). Food was amazing and served in an excellent manner in a private dinner room, pity not to understand the effort and the quality of the various dishes.
Cons: English language is not really available everywhere, but they tried to help as much as they could.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yoko-san was an absolutely lovely host who looked after us with utmost care and service. Her breakfasts were one of the highlights of our trip and I can highly recommend it! The house was quaint and was equipped with everything we needed. Free parking was available just a short walk from the house. Will definitely stay here again when I’m back in Kumamoto.
Cons: Bathroom was shared, but it was hardly a complaint as it’s a 130 year old house so what do you expect.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very good view of the surroundings, quiet and safe neighborhood.
Cons: Difficult to find even with the help of the owner
9.3 Excellent
Pros: host is very kind. i could have a conversation on google translation. when i arrived in the evening, it was hard to find because of the dark. navigation was lost because it misdirected the way so, the owner came to pcik me up with a car.
Cons: yoko-sang is very kind that there was not much to be lacking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: First of all this is not a place for everyone, if you do not like the Japanese Style Ryokan then this is not the place for you. Even if you do like the Ryokan it might not be the place for you either as Ryokan with western adaptations. The place however is stunning, the host is delightful couple that will do anything they could to make you feel like you are at home. The place is just outside Kumamoto city centre, if like myself you do not have a car you just need to get off Kami Kumamoto and the host will come to pick you up (and drop you off) you just need to arrange the time with them. The Ryokan is in a Temple complex, at 17.00 you hear the gong this is how in the temple you are. It is an old house, the stone steps take you into the temple complex or down to the main gate entrance (more temples on the way down) and the stone stairs are also full of holy tombs. The house is immaculate, as it is old there is now soundproofing. They have so many beautiful objects inside. The Japanese breakfast is to die for. You have common bathroom and shower. I have been to many Ryokan this was by far the best, because of the location, the place itself and being inside a temple. Furthermore it was the couple that did the winning part. As usual Japanese people are super friendly but they have exceeded even that. By the way last tips. When you go down the stone stairs, you do all the temple avenue, you arrive at the Gate which is close due to the 2016 earthquake. Don't turn right, turn left and then downhill right at the end of the road. some 300/400 metres going down from the main gate there is a restaurant which is super good. The guy who owns it used to live in Swindon until he was 10 so you have a host who can recommend you what to eat and speak English. Well worth it.
Cons: My regret having been there, in retrospect I would have stayed longer. So much happened there it was like a voyage to self discovery.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was very friendly and help.
Cons: The location is a remote and hard to find. The house is very nice, however it located nearby temple and lots of tombs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yuko-san and her husband drove us from Kami-Kumamoto Station to the accommodation, which is really thoughtful! Room is spacious and comfortable! The breakfast they prepared was really delicious.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing and we had the best view available. The lady owner was very hospitable and trying her very best to Ensure our comfort.
Cons: Nothing, we really enjoyed it all.
6.8 Good
Pros: Great breakfast daily. Great value for money.
Cons: Location is far from center and would be difficult if you only there at Kumamoto just for a short visit. Won’t recommend to walk back at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food and service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This felt like I was living in a traditional Japanese house.
Cons: I had trouble finding the parking because Google Maps couldn't find the temple parking. However, there were three signs if I had just driven a little further. I parked in the street and walked. The lovely couple then drove me to my car to show me the way.

Guests may borrow hair dryers and irons at no additional charge (please inquire at the front desk for details). The hotel possesses 8 rooms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This gem is a great find. Walk into the house and you at once feel at home, you feel comfortable as if you were in your own home. Your host reminds you of your grandfather, who is very caring and concerned that you are enjoying yourself while staying with him. He will readily supply you with hand drawn maps of the more important places to visit. Eateries and other sites (e.g. Takachiho Gorge) all within driving distances. The place is magical, and if a unicorn or a fairy popped up, I would not be surprised. We truly enjoyed the two days spent there.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, lovely host, wonderful old Japanese restaurant nearby in a 250 year old traditional house
Cons: Little bit cramped in bedroom but for price good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cottage were quaint and clean. Perfect for my family. Love the set up and the privacy too despite a small cottage. The owner were very helpful and knowledgeable. Love the private onsen too! Overall five star rating from my family
Cons: Nothing
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The garden is cute. The location is a good base for exploring the area. The host is passionate about the area. And wants to help and give you tips. But alot of his recommendations were outdated and a tourist traps.
Cons: The place is dank, musty, dusty and mouldy. I washed my hair there and 3 days later I still cannot get the mouldy smell out of my hair. There is enough dust and mould in this place since 1985. There is so much fake "air freshener" sprayed in this place to poison a whole country. The fake fumes are trying to cover the smell of mould. But is just making it unbearable. Just open some windows and let the fresh air in. I couldn't use the toilet because I couldn't breathe. There is a timer spray that probably sprays every 5 seconds in such a small area with no windows. The toxic fumes are terrible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, this was by far the best place we stayed during our time driving around Aso National Park.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice wooden house in middle of forest. Very nice and helpful host. Very recommended
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The home is beautiful and comfortable. The host was very helpful and gave us many tips on where/ what to visit in the area. I'd definitely stay at this place again if I were to go back to that area of Japan.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The dining area has a lovely, cosy feel with interesting objects displayed. It was relaxing to bring our own food and heat it using the microwave and sit in the communal area to eat. This room, and the travel advice and map from the host, made our stay at Sanrinsha a special and different stay on our tour of Kyushu. The house is surrounded by beautiful trees with a winding path, lit up at night, through them. The shower area has a large, warm bath.
Cons: We are pleased that we hired a car as Sanrinsha is a few kilometres out of the main village of Takamori.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A charming chalet in the forest, about 20mins by walk to the famous Kumanoza-jinja, 10mins from Tsukimawari Onsen, great experience to have a walk in the woods and rice fields, it is lovely the host Satoru has shared with us his hand made map. We don’t have a car, Satoru is so nice to drive us to the bus station at 7H00 in the morning of his birthday. It is in deed not handy to reach here without a car, but the hotel is near the bus stop of round town bus from Takamori station. There is also a family sized onsen and a cozy salon in the hotel.
Cons: Nothing to do with the hotel itself. For those who come here without a car, better get some food earlier since almost all restaurants nearby are closed after 20H00.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Although the host is looks fierce but actually he is a nice guy after talking with him. It was surprisingly me when I knew he was busy in searching for us some attraction places that suitable to our group. The host recommended us to a restaurant (田乐) for dinner, which is nearby to the Sanrinsha. It's highly recommend to you !

Pros: A gorgeous hotel in an excellent location. The view of Kumamoto Castle is stunning, even though our room did not have the view. You can see it from the elevators. Comfortable and spacious rooms, good AC and close to museums, shops and restaurants. Parking was affordable, secure and convenient.
Cons: It is quite far from the train station, but it is much closer to the 'action' in terms of the castle, shopping and museums etc. I'd recommend staying in this area rather than the station.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good varied breakfast, great location next to the castle and walking distance to the city center. Very comfortable bed. Hotel staff were very nice.
Cons: No coin laundry in the hotel. From reception they gave us info where to go, so no problem at all!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Go for the half-board option with breakfast & dinner included, every single dishes of their foods on so many courses menu are excellent, great with both presentation and taste. Even though it's a bit pricy but really worth the spend. This is so far the best hotels' set courses menu I have had from dozens of hotels / onsen resorts / ryokans from 8 road trips around Japan I have been. And the excellent services make you feel so exclusive and personalized. The private onsen is also good, don't miss it.
Cons: Nothing at all. It was our bad luck with the weather with constant raining all day long in both days of our stay here that made the visit here not fully enjoyable as we has hoped for.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location (in the town of Aso), the traditional style, the excellent food (breakfast and dinner), the public and private baths, the huge and comfortable room looking to the garden and the river, the very helpful staff, the cosy reading room.
Cons: Nothing except perhaps the outer looks of the building seen from the street, but that's irrelevant.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were exceptionally polite and professional. When I asked the way to the nearby park, they even gave me the free entrance cards. Also for us (2 ADULT AND 1 2YO KID),we added a futon. Because the tatami area is connect with the bed area. So adding a futon simply give us huge space to sleep and I didn't need to worry my son falling down from the bed. They even have free spring (both public ones and family one).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The beds and the bathroom facilities were excellent. The warm welcome and help with our taxi.
Cons: There was no restaurant in the hotel so even getting breakfast was a real problem. It is located right under the Kumamoto airport flight path so we had planes going over all the time.

Cons: Some guests were a bit loud even after midnight.

Pros: The location just near from the Shinkansen station, clean and new facilities, excellent system that to keep privacy in spite of the relatively small space for each guest. The common restroom and shower rooms were very nice and comfortable, not too crowded as well as the bar and the lobby area. The room was also very good with clean sheets and pillow, and I could sleep very well from the first night.
Cons: I would appreciate it if the entrance to the room were sliding doors instead of just thick curtains. However it was not a big problem for me. Just felt a little light and noise from outside, but could ignore and sleep well.

Pros: It was wonderful to have a massage after trying day of sightseeing. It was also great to storage my luggage before the check-in. In your sleeping area you have quite a lot of space for yourself and luggage. Personally I would recommend the upper bed as you have more space and your luggage is not next to your head. Amenities included for free.

Pros: The room was HUGE with a lovely sitting area near the window where you can have drinks and enjoy the sounds of the little river bubbling underneath. The baths were nice and the dinner was lovely. My cousin is pesketarian and they catered to her very well! The onsen pass lets you use three other onsens of your choice, and it was so nice to walk around in the yukata and dip in the different onsens.
Cons: I wish the onsen pass was included in the price!

Pros: Staff were really friendly and helpful. We were a bit lost and the driver led us by car all the way from the town's gas station. Lots of variety for on board dinner and breakfast. Dinner was delicious. Indoor and outdoor onsen were just next to each other split by a door, so was very convenient.
Cons: Bathrooms were located outside and at ground floor, so if you're in Level 1, you'd have to walk down the stairs. Just note its a chore in winter :)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and kind staffs at reception!! My shoe has a broken sole so the kind staff let me use the hotel sandel (Ge - ta) to wander around Kurokawa onsen during my stay and on my last day i was stupid enough to loose the hotel sandle while i was busy taking photo with my other shoe at the bridge in Kurokawa city center. Somebody took them away!! The hotel is so kind enough not to charge me for the hotel sandel I lost!! Thank you thank you for all the smile to welcome me and for your kind hospitality while i was on my solo trip to Kurokawa onsen and I feel welcoming here!! ^^ - Onsen has a good temperature to heal all my tiredness and my skin felt smooth afterward. - Dinner is lovely with beautiful presentation!! - Special thanks to the young male receptionist and the old guy (A manager maybe) for all their help on my shoe issue!!

The gracious shuttle driver, location away from the main roads (a slight uphill walk but not difficult), the large tatami room with balcony, the totally awesome kaiseki meals (truly wonderful), the respectful privacy offered by all staff, the heavenly futon to cuddle under, the outstanding onsen - so clean and beautiful.
Cons: Nothing we didnt like. Everything was excellent!

Cons: The breakfast might not be to everybody's liking (typical ryokan breakfast including soup, fish etc.)

Pros: Fantastic place if you wish to stay at a traditional hotel. This is a hotel with several rooms. The rooms are large and have their own toilet. Everything is clean and lovely decorated. We very much enjoyed the onsen bath. The owner explains how to use everything. We booked with breakfast and dinner, which we can highly recommend. The food is absolutely delicious and they serve so many dishes and plates, that it is hard to finish all of them. We would definitely return to this place on a future trip. It is located in a scenic area. We think that a car is required to reach it. Parking is available and free.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great host and nice atmosphere in the old, Japanese house
Cons: It could be located more central, but it’s ok
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Host is reallz a nice guy, acoording to his advice, i really enjoyed Kumamoto vacation, including sight viewing and the food and hot spring. there is really a very nice hot spring near this guest house. I would like to stay there again if I visit Kumamoto in the future.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great shower, large room and fairly close to the main station.
Cons: The walls between the rooms are literally paper thin and quiet time is 10pm. So, don’t plan on chatting with friends at night or watching a video without headphones. The owner was pretty strict with the quiet time policy (he lives right above the guest rooms) so I wouldn’t come here with a chatty group. Solo or quiet-friendly groups are fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Communication was excellent as my plans changed and I needed to make special requests. I had previously stayed at Asobigokoro in Dazaifu and the Kumamoto location was recommended to me. I had such a wonderful experience here, too. From the free coffee bar to the hand-designed map, I love this place and its amenities.

7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, situated just next to shinshigai which similar to Shinsaibashi in Osaka. Very convenient and just few min away from the tram station. The hotel also equipped with the public bath on 13th floor and provide free ramen/beer but we didnt try it due to time constraint. Would check in again in future.
Cons: The double room space is too small. And appreciate if the free ramen and beer could available after 11pm until midnight as well.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brand new hotel, lots of extra touches like free beer or soft drink per night, free ramen soup (cooked fresh) from 21:30, free laundry facilities and free taxi to the train station. The best pyjamas of all the hotels we stayed in. The location for using the bus to Aso was great, 2 minute walk away. The hotel is also very close to a tram stop. There's a great Italian just around the block (reservations required in the evening, as it's small).

Pros: Everything.....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was good. It was walking distance to shopping and the Castle.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The onesen was great, especially with the outdoor pool. Rooms are very clean, and the shampoo/body soap smells wonderful. It's just next to the bus station and about 10 mins walk to the shopping streets. Staff was helpful - we left our luggage at the front desk as it was too early to check it, but when we got back in the evening the bags were already brought up into our room. This was a s nice touch as most hotels would just push your luggage out and let you carry it up yourselves. Special commendation to Mr Kim at the front desk - he even remembered our floor the next day he met us in the elevator. True customer-oriented service!
Cons: Rooms are a tad too small. If you arrive by train you'd need to pay 900yen for taxi fare to the hotel, so do remember to book in advance for a free taxi ride to the train station.
