Pros: Facilities Rooms
Cons: Wait staff a bit slow
Pros: Location, comfort, staff and facilities.
Pros: Everything was excellent
Pros: We had a lovely dinner upon arrival and the grounds are just beautiful. Extremely lovely and attentive service.....and the best desert in Urguary.
Cons: Had room problems, spa needs updating.....however all our problems were taken care of in the best possible way that they could, by the general manger who was not even on the property. He was kind enough to take our complaints by phone call to heart and work out something that was satisfactory, that in it self is rare and appreciated. We also did not realize that it was a country holiday and the resorts was filled with young children which was not what we were anticipating.
Pros: Beautiful settings, hotel grounds are beautiful and wide, rooms are spacious. Great for families
Cons: Service was poor at checkin, and in a way this made the entire experience a poor one, since we had to change rooms.
Pros: Great hotel, great location!! Fantastic pool, close to the vineyards.
Cons: Room service could be improved.
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, the food is superb, the service is phenomenal, and the experience was memorable. We will be back as soon as we can.
Pros: Rooms are delightful to stay in, and housekeeping was impeccable – as well as bell boy service. Staff was amazing – kind, always ready to help, and went above and beyond in everything from the spa to the front desk and housekeeping. Breakfast was delicious: make sure to try the yogurt, which is made in the premises, as well as the dulce de leche and granola. Spa staff was incredible – the massages were great, the gym is well equipped and bike rental provided us with lovely forest incursions. Yoga and pastry classes crowned the overall experience.
Cons: Service at the Pura restaurant fell short of the overall hotel standard – we were forgotten at our table more than once. Food, on the other side, was delicious – the parrilla and pizzas are to die for!
Pros: Dinner was outstanding with international chef. Wonderful anniversary surprise with wine and sweet treats on arrival. Room service menu served hot. Cossaints were fresh and flakey. Great massage in the spa.
Cons: The queen bed was uncomfortable and hard.
Pros: the surrounding where beautiful. rooms were apartment size.
Cons: A faucets etc where not working well.... upon informing manager though, will be looked after.

Pros: atmosphere, decoration, style
Cons: niegbourhood view around hotel not so nice
Pros: Great hotel right across the street from the boat that arrives from Argentina, so we didn't have to get a taxi. Very quiet and awesome staff.
Pros: Super friendly and helpful staff. Clean and safe.
Pros: Large room, many places to sit and relax. Friendly staff. Beautiful little hotel and a great place to stay in Carmelo.
Pros: Excellent breakfast, quiet location, and helpful staff.
Pros: The courtesy of the employees
Cons: The breakfast could be better.
Pros: Nice view, Good location if arriving by boat
Cons: No elevator.
Pros: Very comfortable bed, great views. Interesting decor. Owner and staff very helpful. Gave us towels and mats for beach
Cons: We felt a bit pressured into going to visit some artists studio. We didn’t go.
Pros: We loved the location, the view (our room overlooked the river), the tranquility, but most of all, the staff were super friendly, helpful and very accurate in their suggestions. Very good value for money!!!!!!
Cons: We had a car to move around, maybe if you go by bus you are not close to the most interesting places to visit. We didn't need one but in summer a swiming pool would be great!
Pros: Very nice room with a good view over the river

Pros: The staff was full of good intentions and las empanadas super ricas.
Pros: Delicious breakfast, friendly hosts and clean and tidy room.
Pros: Everything was perfect. The house and location is gorgeous. The hotel rooms s and bathrooms are clean comfortable and fresh. The living room is cozy. The duena is wonderfully hospitable. Dinner and breakfast is delicious and plentiful. It is close to all bodegas in the Carmelo area. A perfect getaway.
Located in Carmelo, Narbona Wine Lodge is on a lake, within a 15-minute drive of Estancia de Narbona and San Roque Chapel. Featured amenities include a computer station, express check-out, and multilingual staff. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available on request).
Pros: Our room was beautiful, comfortable and surrounded by vineyards. The receptionist showed us around the property and made us feel at home. The cheese and wine tasting was generous. We had the ravioli for dinner which was fantastic. Breakfast the next morning was huge and delicious. It was cold so we didn’t swim but the pool looked clean and inviting. With only four or five rooms it is a very romantic place.
Cons: Our air conditioning leaked in the room and there was no one who could fix it. The receptionist spoke great English but she was the only one. The explanations of the wine were written in Spanish and our waitress couldn’t communicate with us at all. It was a bit isolating. And I know, we were in a foreign country, it is unrealistic to expect people to speak our language, but almost all of the guests were English speaking.
Pros: Excellent breakfast using products from Narbona . Good wine tasting.
Pros: This is a beautiful Relais & Chateaux property. Exquisite attention to detail in the decor of the entire inn. From the huge guest rooms to the common areas. We were in the Tannat suite and our daughters were in the Sauvignon Blanc suite. Both were gorgeous with vineyard views. The staff is so helpful and accommodating. They prepared a wonderful picnic lunch for us on short notice which we ate in the vineyard overlooking the river. Guests are able to roam the entire property and go in and out of the buildings at their leisure. Bicycles and a 4x4 atv is at the guests' disposal to explore the vineyards. The restaurant is in one of the original buildings and has excellent food. The included breakfast is very good. All of the cheeses, yogurts, and jams are made onsite or nearby by Narbona. It was a treat to stay here. Would definitely recommend.
Pros: The lodge is as charming as it gets
Cons: The iron stairs to get to the rooms - too steep especially when coming down
With a stay at Ah'Lo Carmelo Hostel Boutique in Carmelo, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Artigas Square and Independence Square. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, luggage storage, and laundry facilities.
Pros: Beautiful house and very spacious common room and garden. Very clean. Lovely place to relax. Delicious breakfast!
Pros: Lovely helpful staff, a few free bikes that we used to visit amazing local wineries that were booked for us. Lovely living area with open fire for drinking wine next to in the evening. Great private room with good shower.
Cons: Tiny bed for us but fine for one night.
Pros: Carmelo is fairly sparse in the central area so not many options. This hotel had a nice communal sitting area, fireplace, music. The location is central.
Cons: Shared bathroom was unisex. Only two showers, no soaps, etc. The staff was fairly standoffish. Our room only had a window that was located at the floorboards with a metal grating.
Pros: Ah'lo hostel is in a great location, very clean and comfortable. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay as we extended by a night and the downstairs room was just a little bit loud with people walking around upstairs, it is an old building though. Breakfast was lovely, great choice and served at one big dining table which is a great way to meet people. Only negative is the condition of the bikes (one has a broken seat but no tools to fix it and most had flat tyres we had to pump up before using) as they could be maintained a little better. But a great stay and would definitely stay again!
Pros: Everything !
Pros: The staff was very kind and helped me to understand the area and how to get to the wineries. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were comfortable and clean.
Cons: I would have preferred more information about how the shared rooms where arranged prior to arrival.
Pros: A lovely converted house with loads of character. The little garden was beautiful and the whole place had a definite boutique vibe. The staff, especially the lady on reception, were amazingly helpful when we had trouble leaving Carmelo due to flooding a boats hitting the bridge. They also had lots of different wine tours and tasting packages on offer. A great place to stay!
Pros: Clean place. Well equipped kitchen. We could get an early breakfast before leaving. Everything you would expect from a good hostel. Nice garden
Cons: The walls are a bit thin...
Pros: Spacious rooms, lots of welcoming communal space. Well located in the town of Carmelo, very positive friendly staff. Reception staffed until 11pm. Quiet place to stay.
Cons: Bathroom could have been cleaner- my towels needed rewashing. No hot water one evening and feeble shower. Some street noise, though didn’t affect my ability to sleep.
Pros: This is the first time we have ever rated a property a 10 in South America. Simply an amazing property near the central plaza. A quick bike ride to several playas. Bus and ferry terminals are nearby. Carmelo is very relaxed. “No sufras con lo poco.” The kitchen is a plus which we used twice for dinners. Central air, comfortable bed, accommodating staff. We stayed in a room with a private bath, but also saw the rooms that shared a bath and they were nice. Everything is clean and well-kept. It may not be the Four Seasons , but for us it was near perfect.

All rooms will provide guests with a wardrobe and a kettle. The area is popular for fishing, and bike hire is available at Las Candelas. Nueva Palmira is 25 km from the accommodation.
Pros: We loved the place. Very clean and confortable and easy location and... everything.
Cons: I liked all
Cons: Location, lacked coffee pot, worn furniture
Located in Carmelo, Posada Campotinto is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of San Roque Chapel and Lo de Jose Castro Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage.
Pros: We had an amazing time at Campotinto. The posada is located in the heart of the Carmelo vineyard near an old chapel. The landscape is gorgeous and perfect to enjoy sunsets. The posada is a charming little hotel with one main house and one extension. Everything is very clean and well maintained. A nice little pool that is very safe for kids (we went there with our 18 months old son). The restaurant is excellent: simple food extremely well executed (we tried two nights in a row and it was consistant). We thought that both the food and wine at the posada were very good value for money. You can stroll through their vineyard and they have a charming little house where you can taste all their wines. They also have bikes that you can borrow for free and they were in a very good state. But most importantly what made our stay so great was the staff: everybody was super friendly, polite, helpful, never stuffy and made us feel at home. This is the perfect place if you want to discover Carmelo over a long week end, taste some good wine and enjoy simple Uruguayan and italian food. Absolutely recommend it. And great with kids.
Cons: Seriously I have nothing negative to say about that place.
Pros: The whole state and the room.
Cons: The bathroom could be cleaner. The gears on the bikes didn't work. Activities about wine processing could be better organized. The menu at the restaurant could have more variety. 8:30 pm it's late to start eating. Why there's a cover charge for paying guests?
Pros: Peaceful setting amazing tranquility with all the qualities of a European winery stay ! Staff were so kind and the surrounding bodegas/wineries Campotinto and Almacén de la Capilla were so close!! A great place to stay visit the vineyards by bike o horse ride ! Safe and friendly for lone travellers !!
Cons: Nothing negative to report except that you need at least 2 nights in this beautiful hotel !
Pros: We stayed here already 4 years ago, and came back as we were inplanned in the area and liked the former stay. Location and the posada is awesome
Cons: Hot water run out after one person taking a shower. Breakfast was very poor, old bread very bad coffee no eggs, nothing fresh available. No go in this category and not comparable to our last stay
Pros: Beautiful Inn in the heart of the wine country in Carmelo. Bikes are available to ride through the vineyards and to other wineries close by. Large room with comfortable bed, nice bathroom, very clean. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is good and dinner at restaurant was very good as well. Setting is very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting this area in Uruguay!
Pros: Breakfasts were good. We didn't have a car, which most visitors do here, so the staff organised wine tours for us and taxis to other places. Pool is lovley in the extensive grounds.
Cons: The food was good in the restaurant, but the menu is very short and we were there for 5 nights and during that time, the menu didn't change at lunch or dinner. Even though we ate out about half the time, it would have been nice to have at least a special of the day.
Pros: HUGE rooms (we booked the superior rooms) with a semi private patio, sitting area, firm king bed, and modern bathrooms. Restaurant on site was closed 2 of the 3 days we stayed but all meals we had there were good. Breakfast is included and while basic is hot and staff is attentive. Great location and within walking distance to a couple of wineries for tasting. Pool is well maintained with several lounges and a shaded area. Would stay again.
Cons: Bikes were in poor condition, many missing parts and we had to pump up the tires before using (although it was easy to get a bike pump from the front desk).
Pros: Location was hood
Cons: Poor food, inattentive staff and lack of managerial direction
Pros: Best part -- killing time at the tasting bungalow, drinking red and eating superb house empanadas.

Pros: Excellent for couples!
Cons: Sound isolatuon between rooms
Pros: Location is good and pool area lovely
Cons: Some of the staff paid more attention to their mobile phones rather than the guests and were generally not very interested. Food was better than average but overpriced and beer selection was very limited. The hotel is living on its past reputation and some areas, like our bathroom needed upgrading. Will not be returning.
Cons: Bathroom was not practical
Pros: A superpintoresque and silent natural settings, perfect style and decor, a comfy common area and lovely bungalows with private terraces and river view, a beautiful pool.. a perfect place for relaxation and feeling closer to nature. A complete city detox.
Cons: Actually nothing. The place has only improved since we were there first in 2015.
Pros: The place is fantastic ! Staff well trainned and always finding a way to help you!
Pros: The building, the decoration, the staff.
Cons: The air conditioning was a bit noisy

Pros: We had a really nice time at Maria's place. She is an excellent host, her place is perfect for a little getaway. Having her winery on the spot is a big plus. Thank you Maria for your hospitality.
Pros: Maria is very friendly and welcoming. We were able to buy a nice bottle of wine on our arrival to enjoy while there. Sat on her back patio enjoying both the wine and the view. The puppy was a bonus!
Cons: We arrived at night and there is no sign.
Pros: Like staying with family. They opened their home to us and provided whatever we needed _ including homemade bread, jams and even organizing an asado!
Cons: Bathrooms could use a bit of an upgrade but very minor since this is really like staying with a host family.
Cons: The pool was dirty and not useable.
Pros: Maria is awesome! She is so knowledgeable about her wine and very accommodating. She really makes you feel at home!
Cons: The accommodation offered free bikes but we ended up having to rent bikes because their bikes were rusty, and 2/3 of the bikes were missing brakes. I made the booking through booking.com and didn’t reach out to say I was on my way and they seemed very surprised when we arrived. Overall Carmelo is a very sleepy town. It’s for a full day or one night stay, but we wouldn’t stay longer.
Cons: We had a minimum expectation of a warm place in the winter, clean comfortable bed, a clean bathroom and a reasonable breakfast. We did not get it. The property is not designed for winter rental. The common areas are not heated. Mattress was old and concave. Towels were rags. Bathroom was filthy and had the owner’s own toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair products etc. We got a little electric heater to warm the bathroom to take a shower. Common area was cold and offer no comfort. Breakfast was meager. Winery tour was the highlight.
Pros: This place was a bit of a surprise for us, because we didn't know we were going to stay in a family's house beforehand, well, that was not clear when we booked our night there. Chalet del Buen Vivir is owned by the owner of Irurtia Winery, and the house is right next to it. It was a bit stressful 'till we understood what kind of place Chalet del Buen Vivir was, but everything changed when we met Maria Noel, the owner itself. She and her husband Mauro are very lovely people, and they did everything possible to make us feel at home. For being their guests, me and my boyfriend didn't have to pay the visit in the winery the next day, and that was a bonus.
Cons: The corridor and the bathroom get very cold in the winter time, but you can forget that easily with all the human warmth you will receive from the owners.
Pros: Enjoyed our stay. very friendly owners. Made to feel at home. We also had a tour at the winery. The garden and surrounding area are very peacefull
Cons: the Wi-Fi was very poor but this seemed a common problem in Uruguay.
Pros: Lovely location beautiful garden Maria the lady who runs the house is extremely kind, personable, easy going, speak fluent French I felt at home as soon as we arrived There are cats, dogs, it felt like family strait away
Cons: Shame I could use the pool No one ´s fault There has been so much rain and sun intermittently it made the water go green with algae and they were waiting for the chemicals to clean it to arrive But not a big deal

Pros: The person handling the place really was willing to do do the best .
Cons: The room could be better furnished . Too basic .
Pros: Comfortable place to spend a night when you're on the road
Pros: The accommodation was a bit outside of town. It was halfway between town and beach. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a nice seating in front of the house in the green. The breakfast was exceptionally good - homemade cakes..
Cons: During the day the place was quiet. In the evening there was more noise from the motorscooters driving to the beach.
Pros: This is not a typical anonymous Hotel, it's a small, familiar place with a warm-hearted atmosphere. The host was very helpful, always made sure that I was fine or asked if I needed anything. Since my spanish is very basic, he was very patient, but it is possible to communicate in English as well (more than in most small towns I have been to). The breakfast was absolutely delicious and he even prepared something vegan for me. I felt realy comfortable and welcomed. The house is right next to the river, in a quiet neighbourhood. My room was small but very cosy with a window towards the Rio Uruguay. The kitchen for the guests could do with some additional stuff, but it was alright and I could use things from the family kitchen, so everything fine.
Pros: Great people, friendly, helpful, interested.
Cons: Quite noisy. My room was just above the kitchen and I could here every single word of the conversations until late at night. Wanted to leave around 8am. Nobody was around at the property to pay, so I just left and contacted the owner. Super unfriendly and impolite correspondence afterwards and of course I paid my stay (via paypal in the end).
Pros: The treatment from the owners

Cons: Nothing negative to say !

Pros: The pool was okay.
Cons: Complete lack of maintenance. The building is completely uncared for. The common places were not clean. The staff could speak no English. Our window when we opened was dirty and falling apart. The breakfast was poor. This is a one to two star at best.
Pros: Good breakfast. Good service.
Cons: Wifi not so good at the room
Pros: I strongly recommend not staying in this hotel. Poor maintenance, Old, bad smell, swimming pool water full of bugs swimming around. Disgusting to say the least.
Cons: Lacks maintenance: water pressure in the shower wasn’t enough, the carpet is ancient and shabby, the shades don’t block the light and there are no blackout curtains. They should offer fruit for breakfast, cream cheese and eggs.
Pros: Best value option in the area if you want a swimming pool, I recommend the bar menu - by Uruguay standards, the pizza was very good! If you want to enjoy the sun with a beer outside, this place is perfect. However, the rooms desperately need a refurbish and the restaurant decor is something out of the 1950's. The restaurant menu could do with a complete overhaul.
Pros: The breakfast was excellent. Dinner was ok, nothing special. Could be a little more imaginative, it's the same menu they've had in Uruguay for the past sixty years; shower was good; staff very pleasant.
Cons: the carpets have seen better days. Uruguay should have a law against noisy mopeds and motorbikes, although this is not a concern of the hotel. Siestas can be ruined!
Pros: If you love the charm of faded glory, this hotel will hit a soft spot! It's charming in a squeaky floor kind of way. We had a large and spacious family room, which could have used a make-over but served us well enough. The interior pool could be featured in a Hitchock movie, scary and eerie, but the outside pool was lovely though! The walk towards the river is not too far and a dip in the Rio Uruguay is just a wonderful experience!
Cons: A bit outdated but in the end nothing really bad. A passing by hotel. As said, the interior pool needs to be replaced with something a bit more lively. But do have a look at the pool! It has something!
