Had to put something!

A harmonious balance of tradition and modernity gives this house plenty of charm and character. - Ideally located in the heart of Strasbourg: 5 minutes' walk from the cathedral and TGV train station, 2 minutes' walk from the historic Petite France area - 72 rooms with original wood floor renovated in a modern style - Local buffet breakfast with a superb selection of regional products - Wine bar: guided tastings with our sommelier
Pros: Clean. Check in was easy and staff was helpful.
Cons: No air conditioning! We were on the top floor in 90 degree weather and it was like an oven. Hardly slept at all it was intolerable. Also insufficient parking.
Pros: This place was in an ideal location, right near the cathedral. The staff couldn't have been nicer. The room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: It's too bad that there's not more parking on-site, but also not really surprising considering it's smack-dab in the middle of the old town. I parked at a garage near the train station and walked in, and that was fine.
Pros: Small but interestingly decorated bedroom. Fun lobby. Lovely front desk and restaurant staff.
Cons: Shower flooded the bathroom floor and, if I had not thrown all the towels down, it would have flooded the bedroom as well.
They were surely aware of this as the shower head was positioned facing the wall. Once it was turned to focus the water downward, the flooding began. Room 308.
Pros: Extremely helpful desk (perfect English), nice restaurant/cafe, extremely convenient location to the sights, nice rooms, even A/C. Just be aware that you'll have some walking to do from the train station, but you can cut 3/4 of the walk by taking the tram, or you can cab it to within a block.

If you are looking for a nice distinctive older hotel in an old French city with nearby shops that are easily within walking distance, Le Gouveneur is hard to beat. The city is small and does not have big-city cultural attractions, but we immensely enjoyed the shops and old timbered buildings.
Pros: The things I like best about Le Gouverneur Hotel are that our room was built right over the old city wall, very picturesque; and the history of the hotel, in that it was built in 1682 for the military governor serving under Louis XIV, king of France.
Cons: There's really nothing I didn't like about it, although on-site parking is quite minimal. You will have to leave your car at a nearby parking lot owned by the City of Obernai.
