Clean and comfortable, helpful and friendly staff, excellent location. Good view over the garden to the sea. Heating too high - would have liked to turn it down but could only turn radiator on or off.
Very relaxed atmoshpere Limited and expensive dinner menu
Typical old fashioned type hotel that you find in many English seaside resorts. Location is its best feature with good views of the entire seafront. We only stayed for one night. The breakfast (and the staff serving it) was very good. Probably more suitable for elderly people as Sidmouth is a very quiet town.
Vary relaxed atmosphere.
I liked the ambience of the hotel, and the unfailing courtesy of all staff. The room with sea-view and balcony was very good, but just a little little lacking in space. The food was OK but certainly not "fine dining". Cooked breakfast was variable with some items hot and others lukewarm.
Room was good, car parking was good and reasonable walking distance to town centre. The lift was too small.
The location. It has a beautiful view of the sea. The lunch on the terrace was delightful and the pool is heated. It was all helped by the fact that the sun shone! There is also ample parking off road.A very enjoyable stay. No
Comfy bed No blinds on the window
Pleasant, attentive and helpful staff
Clean and comfortable. Conveniently situated for town, beaches and for walking and exploring the South Devon area.
We enjoyed the comfort, the excellence of the service and the friendliness of the staff
Excellent position, good food, high quality public rooms Too expensive
Peaceful location, beautiful views of the coast. Good food well presented, staff attentively discrete. pleasant live music. Very good in room facilities, flowers, fruit etc Expensive meal charges with no opportunity to reduce the charge for smaller appetites.
The catering for the function we attended at the Hotel was really excellent. No
The standard of service and cleanliness was to be commended.A very relaxing hotel. We were given a sea view at no extra cost. The bed was a little bit too hard for me.
Comfortable surroundings and excellent service
The meal and the entertainment on Tuesday evening were very good. And the house champagne was excellent. the cream teas too. the breakfasts were pretty drab for a hotel of this price range.
The ambience atmosphere of the whole hotel - very relaxing with good attentative staff.
We had a really good relaxing weekend break .The staff were, without exception, very helpful and good.
View of the sea and excellent food and service
Good location, friendly helpful staff, food excellent, good fresh ingredients. Overall a pleasant hotel. The matress on the bed far to soft.
A lovely country house hotel with bags of original features, yet with all the comfort one could possibly expect. Would definitely stay again. I found the whole experience very relaxing and luxurious. Didn't like the toilet being separate from main bathroom. No shower either.
The sporting memorabilia was interesting to see and read. There are many parts of the hotel which are in a poor state of repair and it was not heated well considering the time of year. Access to the hotel is potholed and likely to do damage to ones car if not careful.
The charm of the place. A place you can hide away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. Good cooked English breakfast for those who are not veggi. Staff willing and did provide eggs, beans, toms and mushrooms. Overall we had a lovely stay and would go back at sometime if the place had a refit and new beds and linen. Room very out dated. Old quilts and mattress. Hand held shower, impossible to have a descent shower especially if you have trouble sitting in the bath. Also suggest a new white toilet seat as it was very old. I would like to suggest too (as I was a little disappointed) that they serve everyday, as there was no fresh berry fruits, natural yogurt and croissants.. You do not always want, orange juice, apple juice, tinned prunes and tinned grapefruit More variety definitely needed.
Very Quiet, Scenic Access roads very poor - single track poorly maintained Some facilities in room did not work Other facilities not looked after well
We were only there for one night, but it was very comfortable, the staff were helpful and pleasant. Good choice of breakfasts, from the normal full English to haddock and poached egg etc. The bar was kept open until the early hours so we could have a nightcap when we got back that evening, but no noise or anything like that. I think this hotel would be lovely in the summer with the grounds and outside tables, they also have a swimming pool which looked like it would be nice. not really.
This is a delightful country house hotel that oozes old fashioned charm. The walls are adorned with historic paintings and sports memorabilia. Within the extensive grounds there are ample sports facilities for all the family with lovely walks along the banks of the River Otter. Great breakfasts, friendly staff and rewarding retreat for nature lovers.
The hotel was a slightly eccentic charming country hotel, set in superb grounds. The staff and service were excelent - as was the food.
We loved the beautiful staircase and atmospheric log fires. Waking up to birdsong and getting right away from the rush and hustle of city life. Our mews rooms were clean, comfortable and had terrific character. The bed was very comfortable. The food at dinner was terrific and well served. There was a lighter room service menu but we would have liked this to be available some evenings in the main hotel. We enjoyed the walk down to the river despite being rather damp underfoot because of recent flooding. The staff were very responsive and did their best to put any niggles right. The rate we paid was very competitive, but we would have thought it was overpriced at the full rate. What a shame all the meals were served in a dining room where the wonderful views were completely blocked by a marquee. This was especially annnoying as the hotel was not busy and there were other dining areas available which were not used. Our mews rooms were cold and the radiators turned on and off by a timer with no access to turn them on at other times. A fan was supplied but this was noisy and quickly became stuffy. The shower head would not stay on and the bath was deep, narrow and difficult to get out of. The hot water was scalding in our room and only lukewarm in our son's room across the corridor. Access road was long, rough, muddy and very potholed.
Excellent food, friendly staff, amazing location. However, we were told on internet that only one room was available. When we got there the hotel was virtually empty. Poor dribbly shower. Overall the hotel is in need of refurbishment
We were able to relax and get away from the phone and email and pressures of life, and be spoiled a little. Everything was fine
Location. The reception staff could have been more helpful, carried our own bags as the chap was kind of wandering around. The beds could do with an upgrade for a 4 star hotel. Not very comfortable, woke up with painful joints.
Friendly staff, Clean Hotel, Perfect location, but the Beds were very had, and the decor in the bedrooms needed modernising and updating. Beds were hard
Wonderful view, great service
the space to 'be'. would have appreciated being told more fully of the dining room system re breakfast. eg. did not dine in the hotel. On first morning we were asked which room when we went into breakfast - allocated a table. Assumed that that would be our table daily for breakfast. Staff had to correct us on that on the 3rd morning. Uncomfortable all round.
*Disturbed twice by cleaning staff. If reception know when someone has checked out or not, why do cleaning staff insist on entering the room when guests are still there? *Delete turn back. Not needed. *No prior knowledge of tie and jacket being required to dine, so not brought. As a cambridge univ professor I dress for dinner frequently. I go to a hotel to relax, not a 'busman's holiday'!
The staff were really very good and always on hand to serve. A lot of the other guests were very snooty and quiet rude. How hard is it to say "Good morning". This is not a reflection on the Hotel. We had a fantastic break.
Swanky and pretentious. Failure in your attempt to be la de da
A great hotel for anyone over 75 which was clearly the average age. Not a hotel for young couples or children
We thought the hotel was in exellent condition, clean throughout. The staff were friendly and helpfull, will definatly stay again. Thank you margaret r Springham
relaxed atmosphere the bed was too soft
Hospitality first class. Similar with breakfast. Basically pleasant change form chain hotels Bed not very comfortable. Could do with new matress
Friendliness, hotel was more like a large Guest House or as they say in Aussie a Boutique Hotel. The pub opposite gave a another choice to eat and the publican and his wife (plus clientelle) made us as equally welcome. Can't think of anything
The location is great, the food is excellent and the facilities a of a very high standard
Very friendly service, excellent food interesting rooms with every detail considered. Rooms were quite small andd bathroom ventilation could be improved, the welcoming lounge offset lack of seating in the bedrooms
The food is amazing There are too many rules within the hotel. It makes it hard to relax.
The owners were very friendly and made you feel very welcome. There were a lot of pluses, the really comfortable bed, the toiletries, the tea, coffeee and fruit juices. The breakfast was superb, and I would have liked to sample an evening meal, but time did not allow.
This was a fantastic find. Sara Louise was super, we were only sorry that we didn't eat here too. The whole experience was super
Excellent attention to detail
Warm welcome. Excellent dinner. Bathroom was very clean etc but it is very dated.
