A haven of peace only 15 miles from Marrakech. From here, you can enjoy the city souks and the tranquillity of the Atlas in the same day - and still have time for pampering. With its view of an ancient kasbah and its backdrop of snow-capped peaks, this discreet hotel may only be 30 minutes drive from the Maghreb s most vibrant city, but it offers a completely different experience. So retreat, relax and restore yourself in a kinder climate and quiet style. - Guests do not feel trapped at Tigmi as we have shuttle bus which runs 3 times a day taking the guests in the city - this is a complimentary service. - Fifteen miles south of Marrakech, turn off the tarmac road, climb a track through the tranquil settlement of Tagadert, and you reach Tigmi (meaning our house in the regional Berber dialect). Beginning life in 1840 as a local judge s residence, at the turn of this century the house and its neighbours were sensitively restored and opened as a family hotel, fashioned from time-honoured materials and decorated in the traditional style. Now under new ownership, Tigmi has been expanded and extended into the village, making a peaceful retreat that offers the best in contemporary comforts. Here you can sample the finest French and Moroccan cuisine, on the terrace or in the silver service restaurant. Here you can take spa treatments in the steam bath, commission carpets from the on-site weaver, or simply recover from the rigours of a visit to the city. Here you can lose yourself in a labyrinth of alleys leading to secret gardens, of airy colonnades giving onto courtyards, of pools and palms and heady-scented flowers. So welcome the sun from a lounger by the bar, enjoy the shade on a hidden terrace, rest in the cool of your milky-plastered room. - Tagadert is a tiny hamlet set in the Haouz plain between Marrakech and the High Atlas mountains. The hamlet has been occupied since the 17th century by Berbers and sits on top of a small hill overlooking a little stream with natural spring lined with olive trees to the north and spectacular views towards the High Atlas to the south. The views across the undulating hills are breathtaking, especially during the winter and Spring when the air is clear and before the summer heat-haze settles. - Tagadert comprises about 300 dwellings, all made of pise (reinforced mud) and has an average of 6 people in each home. These people speak Tashelhit, one of the many Berber dialects and some of them speak limited French. The homes are built around a central courtyard some of them have a well and a simple outdoor hammam where members of the family bathe. Electricity has been brought to the village in the past few years. For the time being no phone lines into Tagadert exist but mobile phones (GSM) work well. - SEE OUR MARCH, APRIL AND MAY SPECIAL OFFERS
