Loved our room, despite the dented refrigerator and missing sheet rock in the master bedroom, and the fact you could walk to the Mall, but the pool situation was a huge issue! Each building has a pool, but seating only along one side. People were lining up at 7 am to grab a seat for the entire day. The pools don't open til 9am. I thought to myself 'Are they serious ?' 'Sleeping on their coolers til opening?' Well.....they were. Who wants to be up before 7 am on their VACATION? There were signs posted stating 'Towels DO NOT Reserve Chairs' Do you think this prevented people from doing just that? People kept their seats even while going back to their rooms for 2/3 hour lunches. My family of four could only enjoy the pool at night right before closing at 10pm. With small children, a pool is a must. As far as beach chairs, they came with our rental. Fabulous, right? Not so much. You had to be down first thing in the morning to get a good seat. Everywhere else we've stayed, you rented the same chairs for the duration of your stay. I need a vacation from my vacation!!!!!We will not be going back to this establishment during peak season. Just not worth the money considering all the headache. Elevators can also be an issue depending on the number of guests. Definitely room for improvement.
The Calypso was great. Terrific views, great room, friendly and efficient service. Pools are nice, no hot tub though. Right on the beach with good beach service for chairs and umbrellas. Close to all major attractions and restaurants. We really had a good time. Only downside was that the Tiki Bar was never open, but heard it was expensive anyway, so no big deal. Would definitely stay here again.
I spent two weeks this summer at Calypso with family (friends came to visit) and had a wonderful time. You must go the Pier Park and enjoy the music at Tootsie. The Calypso Towers were so convenient to the beach and shopping that I will recommended to everyone. Now make sure you put down sunscreen when you go to the beach because the sand is so white that you can burn really fast!
First here some tips...for the beach chairs, make sure that you go down to the beach by 7am and sign up for them. Also for the pool chairs, it opens at 9am and you CANNOT put a towel on chair or chairs and save it. If you try and leave you towel will be taken away and your seat is gone. Beyond these little things the place was wonderful. Nicely located, near the fishing pier and Pier Park. We walked to both, traffic is terrible. So make sure you plan your car trips or you'll be stuck in traffic. Our room, 1bedroom 1.5 bath with sleeper sofa was just right for the 3 of us. The bed was wonderful, the whole room was beautiful and the patio large and WONDERFUL ocean beach views. Would definetly stay again.
Of all the hotels/resorts we have stayed at, this is by far the best. We had a 1 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath. The livingroom had a couch with a hide-away bed. We were three adults staying for five nights. Plenty big for amount of people and length of time. Kitchen fully equipped to do all your cooking if so desired. If cooking is not on on your list of things to do on your vacation, then there are several very nice restaurants within walking distance. Our room was VERY clean and very well maintained. Try to avoid the elevators during check-out and check-in times if you are in a hurry. Not quite enough to sustain the number of guests coming and going at those perticular times of day. But again, what's your hurry, you are on vacation!!!! Only bad thing about the place -- we had to leave. Will without a doubt stay again.
My family and i stayed at Splash last year during the week of the 4th and totally loved it. We have 3 very young children and they enjoyed the waterpark. The Bar wasnt open but one time the four days we were there so i wasnt pleased with that. This is a great new Hotel and its ashame they have sky rocketed the prices like they have after one year. We payed a little over $ a night last year and $ is just ridiculous with the way the economy is now.Love the Hotel and would stay again but the price is to ridiculous. Justin from Alabama
Had a nice 3 night stay. Staff was nice and helpful. Room was nice and peaceful. The view was beautiful overlooking the Gulf. New shopping mall was close by and weather was beautiful. Of course my wife enjoyed running over to Destin to the Silversands Discount Mall to do some shopping while we were there. Pinneapple Willy's ribs were still outstanding, just the way they always are.
Ive had several trips to Panama City and this was one of my favorite! PRO: The staff was very friendly and always helped out when needed. The location was great for us because it is not in the main part of panama with all of the madness....its more of a quiet location without being too far away from shops and resturants. Great place for anyone of any age. There is a parasail/chair rental/jet ski rental at the foot of the hotel on the beach that is very convienant and has very friendly staff. I would recommend the jet skis but for a tip: 30 minutes is PLENTY of time. CON: I did have a problem with a few of the guests due to a shortage of chairs. there are only tanning chairs on one side of each pool and that isn't NEARLY enough. Although you are not supposed to...everyone would get up at like 7am and rush to lay a towel on SEVERAL chairs and half of the time didnt even use them. Staff finally did something about it when a homeowner had a fit, so in return all of the guests would line up at the same time in the morning and wait till 9am.... then they would throw towels on chairs like a deck of cards. It was VERY frustrating for a person like me who likes to sleep in on vacation. They offer chairs on the beach but you are only allowed 2 per room so the additional 6 guest staying with me could not get one. Or you can pay $ dollars a day for a set of two. They do this obviously for a reason.
We were on 20th floor and view was fabulous. Our 3 bedroom was spacious and beautifully decorated. We were there for a 4 day event at Park which was approx 1 mile away. It is only approx 2 yrs old and everything was fresh. Staff very helpful. Walking distance to new Pier Park area where you can enjoy fantastic shopping and great restaurants within any price range. Plan to be back next April.
We were there in August of 2007 and it was our first trip to Panama City. We were delighted with the beaches and also the condo at Calypso. The staff was great the rooms were clean, and we loved it so much we were back in June of 2008. Unfortunately we needed a four bedroom and the place we stayed was not even close to the quality of the Calypso. We are returning in August of 2008 and will be staying where we know there is quality even if we have to get two rooms.
We just returned from an extended family vacation at this resort. The only good thing about the Calypso is the condo! Large, spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff and management are horrible. The 1 or the 3 elevators in our building didn't work for most of our vacation taking 2 or 3 days to repair. This caused 20 25 minute waits to the 23rd floor. At check in, there are no carts and you only have 15 minutes to park in the unloading zone and are threatened with a ticket. They guy standing there giving tickets is not helpful at all, but is very rude if you ask for help. They security and staff will stand and watch you struggle to open a door with your hands full and will not bother to help. The front desk cannot give you change for the vending machines (the only food available in the so called resort) The advertised 'Tiki Bar' is not open, no liquor license, but they don't even sell soft drinks. The place is filthy! Vomit lay in the hall for 3 days before cleaning up. The day we left there was vomit in the elevator that hadn't been cleaned up, only a drying agent put on it. Trash is not picked up on the beach, but usually guests would pick it up in the am. There was a fire alarm the morning we left, however it did not sound in our room on the 23rd floor. (only the all clear) I didn't talk to one guest who got the alarm in there room. You are given 2 rolls of toilet paper for the week and no garbage bags. I have had better service in a $49 motor lodge. If only the staff weren't so rude about the problems! !
