Friendliness of hotel staff; interesting old building to visit; pleasant and hospitable city; many touristic places of interest, particularly the Alqueva dam.
What I liked was that even though the location is within the city, the hotel offered me the privacy and serenity he sought. nothing.
Dogs were allowed. Wonderful historic hotel. friendly. Good breakfast. Lighting in room is too bright and glaring. Not enough shampoo and soaps.
Simply beautiful settings, a must stay if you're ou that way ! very helpful staff who refer us to a lovely restaurant, breakfast was perfect - beautiful dining room & good food! we took loads of pics of the hotel before we left..best hotel we stayed in of the entire trip!
The hotel, the people and the town NO
This is a charming hotel. The room was spacious with a wonderful ornate ceiling. The bed was large and comfortable. A very atmospheric building with helpful staff
Very impressive hotel. Loved the architecture. Staff very helpful with dinning suggestions.
nice old hotel, friendly and helpful staff (especially tips where to eat in Moura), parking possibility, pleasant pool -
A grand old building; central location but quiet. Helpful friendly staff. The pool is tiny so I didnt use it. I had some problems with the WIFI but they allowed me to use the hotel computer to get on the internet.
The hotel is beautiful and really clean and neat, and the people were very friendly and helpful! No!!!!
Friendly, family-run hotel, in a great location. Good value, we stayed for €35 inc. breakfast and the room and food were fine.
The lounge was very convenient and very comfortable and I certainly enjoyed my bath the next morning. Internet access was very variable - it seemed to come in waves. The signal would be very strong, and then it would just fade away, before coming back again. This was very irritating as I tried to book accommodation for the next two nights and I ended up double-booking one night by mistake because I thought the signal had failed to allow one of my bookings to register.
excellent in every respect
Accommodations, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, location
Stunningly beautiful hotel in former convert, with vast communal areas. Friendly and helpful staff. High quality food served in lovely vaulted dining room. Some people might prefer a slightly larger bedroom, though this did not bother us.
Excelent breakfast and Excelent staff. Nice rooms, Hotel is an old convent. Door handles are nice to see (old style) but makes some noise.
Nice and special atmosphere in old monestry. Stayed with family for one night.
Outstanding! Staff excellent. Breakfast very good. This historic building has been renovated in great style. Asked for a quiet room with nice view. Got it. Even could have a look at the bell tower. Private parking.
location downtown. friendly staff In our opinion, a Pousada should not be "a family friendly hotel" we do not mind children, but a Pousada is in our opinion expected to be a nice, quiet, - and gourmet place...
Historical building conveniently positioned in Beja with good facilities None
The quality, ambiance, feeling of serenity, plenty of small sitting areas. Breakfast was really fabulous, staff very friendly and helpful. Noisy and inefficient air conditionining. Lighting in the bedrooms was rather dim, so difficult to read by (this is not a complaint, just an observation).
comfort and friendly staff
Friendly, helpful reception; pleasant room; easily accessible & generally comfortable except beds - see below The beds were exceedingly uncomfortable with bedsprings barely covered.Unfortunately we did not discover this until retiring when it was too late to request a change of room. This problem was reported to the desk the following morning and it was acknowledged that some mattresses were in a poor condition. However, it appears that the computer did not flag up those rooms affected!! Perhaps someone should reprogramme it as there appeared to be plenty of empty rooms available.
Good location for visitng Alentejo, nice pool, rooms are ok and clean The bed was to small for 2 adults - better ask for twin beds
Easy to find, easy parking, and within walking distance of historic centre. A functional if uninteresting place to stay. Pleasant staff. Lacks any character.
Swimming pool, cleanliness of hotel Gym and massage area was closed
Everything, it was excellent in all aspects, and easy to find, could not fault it No.
Good location and clean Breakfast was very simple, also when we sat down for breakfast we were asked to move table, because that table was set up for lunch !!
Very useful sight if travelling through the area - conveniently situated near main road The dinner was really poor quality
Very clean and comfortable bit noisy on early departures but thats what you would expect i suppose on ceramic tyled places?
Comfort and cleanliness of the room.
Peaceful surroundings, wild animal life, nice pool, observant staff. Some noisy kids running around. Keep door locked for security, you never know who has the access keys.
I liked the location and the environment. Ideal for a few days of quiet and rest. The rooms are cleaned very late at the afternoon.
Wonderful position in the country. Amazing swimming pool, cheap spa, super breakfast. Kind staff, nice room. A little bit isolated with a chance of meeting wild beasts on the road.
The breakfast, the quiteness. The cost for using the pool was too expensive, most hotels, you don't have to pay extra to use the pool.
Service was excellent - reception could not be bettered. Breakfast really excellent. Room rates very competitive.
country side, wine tasting rooms with cigarette smell, AC-noise
The location was awesome. A real vacation place. The rooms are not sound proof. YOu can easily here somebody next door and the hallway.
Very helpful staff.
only stayed overnight but very beautiful setting The spa and indoor pool was and extra should be free for hotel guests
All was perfect! Probably the best accomodation we have had. Calm, harmony, luxury without any lack of good taste, a personalised and very kind welcome and a very good diner
We spend just a day and a night in Sobroso, and really enjoyed it. I only can confirm what others already stated: this is a place to relax, to eat local dishes with high quality, to drink great wine ... and to experience a warm welcome with perfect service from all the people there. My room has been quite small, bed on upper level. If it's hot outside, even the A/C doesn't cool down enough if you are used to sleep in colder environment. Different in other rooms, no problem there. It completely depends which room you get.
Nice place, beautiful landscapes. Well decorated rooms. Good facilities.
The special atmosphere and the personal attitude of the owners
Friendly and helpful owners. Spacious rooms and good breakfast. A very pleasant stay in a small village close to sights.
The attitude of the family that run the hotel, they were very helpful and did all they could to make you feel at home. The result was a very relaxed stress free stay. The layout of the hotel, furniture, decoration etc, was designed with the comfort of the guests in mind and was very successsful.
the kindness and the conviviality of the landlady located some what far away in a very quit village nice and clean although the weather was not good
the family was very nice person and very hospitable no
This small, boutique hotel is simply a gem and deserves more notice. The proprietors are very kind and helpful. The hotel is beautiful, well appointed, comfortable--elegant rooms, the host's private collection of Roman antiquities in the lobby, very welcome pool in a lovely courtyard, excellent breakfast. I can't say enough about our stay. This hotel is an excellent value for the money. Nothing--we wished we could stay longer.
The hotel was charming with many traditional artifacts on display. The room was large and well furnished with a good sized bathroom. Very small but pretty pool area. On arrival we were told they did not have our reservation. This was rectified after a phone call but was not the most promising welcome. The gentleman on reception did do his best to reassure us and we were allocated a room and offered a drink. He was also extremely helpful later with providing directions and advice on good restaurants.
A small hotel with character. Owners/Staff were very friendly & helpful.Ideal for a very reasonably priced stop-over en-route from Lisbon to Algarve or vice-versa but well worth staying longer to explore the area.Doesn't serve dinner but 2 very good restaurants nearby( 1 just across the road ).
Location, garage, bar, breakfast The restaurant has closed down
Cleanliness, parking facility, breakfast, bar shower head defect and bathtub a bit worn
Location, easy to find. Very good garage. Coffee at breakfast is undrinkable, pay the extra and get a decent cup from the bar.
For some reason the Restaurant was not open in the evening but the staff gave me good advice regarding restaurants in Beja
We were given a suite which was very nich but the sofa bed was not very comfortable.
Room is enough large, facilities are not new but clearn. Location is good to go city center on foot. Too noizy at night by other customers and traffic noize, breakfast is poor.
It´s a plain simple hotel. You get what you pay for. Small detail the shades are electric.
Close to centre of town, parking all around the hotel. No.
Great location, very quiet yet in walking distance of all sights. Very easy to find and park
It was a convenient location for visiting major tourist attractions. Easy walking distance to the inner city ,good parking facility and close to a super market and gas station.
The owners have restored this old family house which now offers about five very clean and functional bedrooms. The staff could not be more helpful and we thorougherly enjoyed our one night there. Also an excellent breakfast.
Carlos and Gabriella are warm and charming hosts who really gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home throughout. Their little personal touches made this into a highly memorable stay for us. That is on top of the spacious and highly comfortable room and the excellent breakfast they serve. All this at a very reasonable price !
Delicious pumpkin jem!! The staff is really nice!
I liked the hospitality, the roll of activities, the rooms, the confort, the quietness, the view nothin
Carlos & Gabrielle were very welcoming & helpful. A real home from home. Very restful & comfortable place. Absolutely nothing.
The owners/inn keepers were our hosts, warm and gracious. We enjoyed them. Gabriella's breakfast was superior compared to many others. The quiet setting w/swimming pool we enjoyed, as well as our spacious, peaceful rooms. When we drove into the property, Carlos greeting us in his warm Portuguese way. It was the highlight of my strays while in southern Europe.
Herdade da Retorta is a great place to relax. The hosts are very friendly, the room was large and clean, the breakfast was great both in quality and quantity, the pool was the perfect place to relax. Everything was perfect.
Beautiful family-owned, restored and very friendly small rural hotel with delightful hosts who cannot do enough to make your stay most enjoyable. It is in a countryside location with large grounds and a swimming pool, so perfect for those who like peace and quiet but there are places to go and see within a short drive. Gabriella and Carlos deserve to succeed as they have put a lot of time and effort into making this a place to remember! We would certainly chose to stay there again.
This is so much more than a just a hotel or a pension.First of all the house is exceptionally located in the middle of the charming Alenteju landscape. The house used to be a family house now converted -with a lot of respect for the house itself- to welcome guests. When we arrived we got a 'guided tour' through the house by the friendly owners. They really know how to pamper their guests. Each morning the breakfast was a surprise. We will remember it for a long time. Rooms were spacious and very clean and nicely furnished in the style of the house. The swimming pool was very neat and big enough.A very nice place to stay, higly recommended!
This a wonderful place to stay. Recently converted into accommodation from a family farm. The owner and his wife are very friendly, happy to spend time explaining and talking about the are and the house and their background without being intrusive. The rooms have been refurbished very stylishly and comfortably and breakfast was wonderful with all fresh and mailny very local food. There is a pool and a samll gym and they are happy to recommend restaurants in the town ( about 2 ro 3 Ks away) that were superb. All in all I wish I had had much longer there and will have no qualms recommending friends to stay there. If I ever go back to this part of Portugal I will definitely look to stay here again. N/A
