7.5 Good
Pros: Overall very good
7.0 Good
Pros: Spacious, clean, well appointed and priced. Almost empty on the night we stayed apart from a small group of French off-roaders, it was a treat staying there. Spa complex competitively priced as was dinner in the restaurant. The staff were welcoming, helpful and courteous.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The attentive service provided by the receptionists.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: If you visit just for the accommodation, you'll be pleased because it's quality, clean and ample space. But try more and you'll be really pleased, try the spa and you'll be wowed. Try ordering your meal ahead of time and you'll be able to sit down and eat at your own time. The meal is a standard three course selection selection and comes with excellent service. The breakfast is fine and do ask for fresh coffee cos they provide if you want. Great choice of channels on an OK size screen. Not much going on outside the hotel but in town there's amazing views and the castle. Really fine place to stay. The lady at the spa was super helpful.
Cons: No outside shaded sitting area.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff were lovely, room nice, breakfast nice!!
Cons: No where to sit in the sun, sat round back then told it for the weddings etc. People looking at me!! No where to sunbathe, no outside pool to cool off, not set up for tourists at all, set up for athletes because of thermal pool, and weddings, will not be staying here again, but if they had an outside pool it would be perfect!!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A very quiet, well run hotel ideal for short stays. Excellent service from very helpful and attentive staff. Clean, well maintained and comfortable.
Cons: Just an observation..... Like a lot of hotels and restaurants in this part of Portugal, the kitchen closes on a Sunday evening. Plan for a self service evening meal :-)
Moinho do Maneio - Penamacor - Building
2
9.4 Excellent (245 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Moinho do Maneio in Penamacor, you'll be 5.1 mi (8.2 km) from Sierra de Gata and 19.4 mi (31.2 km) from Idanha-a-Velha. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed one night in the bubble and were lucky that the sky was completely clear and we could see a lot of stars. The bed was also very comfortable and there was even a socket inside the bubble. The luggage could easily be stored at an extra room, which also had a shower. The breakfast was really awesome, with berries and selfmade cake and all kinds of other things. The property in general is very big, with lots of extra things, like a swimming pool, a trampolin, hammocks, ... We would really have liked to stay longer :o)
Cons: The shower doesn't have a curtain or anything, so the whole bathroom area gets really wet.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, a great retreat. Middle of nowhere, the perfect place to be away of a busy lifestyle. Staff were friendly and breakfast was delicious.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property is amazing and really good for relaxation and get way from the city life. It's close to really amazing places like Monsanto and Penha, so you can spend the day on those historical villages and then get back for the fireplace in your room. Breakfast is amazing! Enjoy Moinho do Maneio and the wonderful hosts!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property with space to explore, a pool and a creek to kayak and an amazing breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic and with a great location to eat it in the grounds.
Cons: Nothing - it is ideal if you want quiet and calm
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully remodeled lodges on a large, rustic site. The owners, who recently transformed the abandoned stone buildings into lovely and modern lodges, are friendly and helpful. The property is nestled among some hills, away from everything, and offers trails to hike and roam. The included breakfast is among the best we’ve ever experienced. Fresh juices and fruits, homemade jams, plus all the usual stuff — was served in a room surrounded by nature. Beautiful. We understand why people come here to stay for several days. Pentacor is about 4-5 km away.
Cons: The lodge is about a half mile off the highway, along a dusty, gravel road. Work was occurring along the road during our September visit, so I suppose the road is being improved. Driving was safe — but not the usual access to a place to stay. I’d call it a small price to pay for such a unique and memorable place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place, amazing hosts, beautiful retreat. The bubble is fantastic. You can see the stars above at night and still be warm and cozy.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel enjoys an unrivalled location within the small town of Monsanto. Our room was spacious and comfortable; the communal areas are clean, modern and tasteful; and the breakfast is generous; but what really makes the hotel stand out is the wonderful, professional service. We received a warm welcome and Carlos always had time to attend to us and our questions in a friendly manner..
Cons: It's a very small thing, but it was a bit tricky using the wifi, with a code that needed to be entered again every time one left and returned to the hotel, and expired every 24 hours.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Monsanto was one of the highlight of our travel, and we are glad that we stopped by here. The reception lady was kind and helpful.
Cons: Perhaps it cannot be helped, but the moldy wall, beds too small with moldy smelling linen was not too nice. I would clean all the molds and change the linen, and this place would have been perfect!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous incredible location
Cons: Shower uncomfortable
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast and the house lady was very nice.
Cons: No complaints of the facilities but parking for a motorbike tricky

Cons: There is nothing I didn't like. Everything was perfect!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: - amazing lady running the place. Doesn't speak English, amazing anyway - interesting room right in a historic building. Local experience. You have a piece of boulder right in your room - kettle in a room! - very clean - electrical heater
Cons: - no window in a room (again, it is historic). Thus room is dark and hard to ventilate - no soundproofing. You will hear your neighbours upstairs and in a room nearby - a bit wet (again, it is historic
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere of the house. Beautifully restored old house, with a special character, yet very confortable, warm and sparkling clean. We had breakfast in premises resembling museum, got so much impressions. Very worth staying!
Cons: Everything was perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The structure was amazing, we had boulders as a part of our bedroom wall. The house where the breakfast was served was super antique, Dna Celeste was super sweet, friendly and because of her I will return. The house is steps away from restaurants and the castle!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room inside is very special, historical and classical. The bathroom is clean and modern.
Cons: Communication is quite a task coz the landlady can’t speak any English. She had to call someone who speaks English to interpret for us. There was no hairdryer in the room. Supposed she forgot to put one; luckily we wouldn’t wash hair that night when we stayed.
7.0 Good
Pros: It was a comfortable stay. The place was well heated and had all I needed for a comfortable winter night sleep.
Cons: It was a challenge contacting the owner. I arrived around 5pm and, after having knocked fruitlessly on the door at the given address, had to come into a nearby hotel to ask for help. The hotel staff rang the owner, who in turned contacted the housekeeper who lived nearby. She finally arrived to show me into the place. I expected that someone would be at the property to greet guests on their arrival.

4.0 Okay
Cons: Wifi does not work. There is no cup or simple tea coffie or anything to drink in the room. Regarding the price of the room, this seems to be very basic to be included. The lighting in the room (besides the toilet) is not sufficient to read.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A comfortable simple place with a good bed and good heat and hot water and good standard breakfast
Cons: Could use better coffee. WIFI is marginal
6.0 Good
Pros: the staff is very friendly.
Cons: They runned out of hot water, only a couple of hours after we arrived (the house shares a hot water cylinder between all rooms and despite its size, it was not enough for all rooms). Only one of us had a shower.. The bedroom walls were quite thin so we listened the heavy snoring of the next room guests as well as their wake-up routine.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet location and very helpful and flexible manager.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation comprised a number of separate buildings, with large rooms, newly equipped; in fact we wondered if we were almost the first people there. Good breakfast in large room which no doubt caters for many in summer and had also communal sitting area.
Cons: No sign at the entrance but we recognised the giant stone. It will be easier to find when signage is up and satmaps have resolved an issue over earlier establishment with the same name.

Pros: Very comfortable, spacious accommodation. Very good breakfast.
Cons: Liked everything but would have liked access to tea and coffee making facilities other than at breakfast time.
7.0 Good
Pros: Cleanliness spacious room

Pros: Its in the middle of nowhere as expected just of a b road, no noice. The outside does not do the inside justice with high ceilings, spacious and super clean. Room also clean finished to a high standard.
Cons: A couple of improvements would be to spend a bit of attention to the rear garden with an old pickup and general old rubbish. And a vegan breakfast would be good but there was plenty of fresh fruit to compensate. overall very happy
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beauty of the country scenery, with a peach orchard and corn plantation and the warmth and kindness of the owners. Delicious breakfast with local fruit, eggs and bread. Owners invited us to walk in the orchard and pick a box of peaches to take back with us! Great and relaxing stay for the whole family.
Cons: All great.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly hosts. Large room with balcony.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After we made our reservation, they called us and, as it was almost dinner time, gave us a really nice suggestion (around 20min away by car). After dinner we went back and Mrs. Maria welcomed us into an amazing living room with a fireplace. Actually, after leaving our luggage in our beautiful spacious room (with a big private bathroom and with double bed), we went back and had some drinks and an amazing talk with her! The place makes us feel that we are in our grandparents house but with a lot more of comfort! We really loved it! We also loved the breakfast, that Mrs. Maria and Mr. João prepared for us at our own requested time: we had fresh orange juice, fresh bread and croissants and fruit! There was also a homemade cake, cereals, etc. When we left (they kindly allowed us to leave at a convinient time for us), Mr. João had prepared some of their own vegetables for us to take home as we prefer to cook with organic vegetables... we made a big pot of great soup :D We felt at home there and will return for sure and we'll continue to tell everyone about this little paradise :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We really liked to stay at this rustic small hotel. The bedroom was as expected, with no luxuries but with a great bed and view. The hosts were super friendly and helpful for us. The breakfast was also great value, fresh bread, croissants and homemade cake! We would definitely recommend anyone visiting Beira Baixa to stay in here.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room. Two windows on opposite aspects gave the room a lovely flow of air and light.
Cons: No dinner option and the nearest restaurant is 30 minutes away. After 8 days the breakfast was uninteresting and had no variety. No glasses in the room... Nor kettle even offered for tea or coffee

Cons: I have nothing to add here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rui was a very helpful host and guided us through the narrow street to The property and parking. The room was very comfortable with a balcony. There is a nice terrace and a fridge for guests to use on the first floor. Our room was on the second floor which was great for us but for someone with mobility issues it would not be great. The house was a lovingly restored family home. Lots of original character. The hotel also has a snack and bar menu. There is one restaurant in town that is open for dinner most nights. It serves chicken and pizza. Other choices would be a short drive to a neighbouring town.

Pros: Great location and staff
Cons: No Air Conditioning Uncomfortable beds
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were so lovely. Monsanto is mind boggling, so to stay in a place close to the walk up to the castelo was fantastic. Despite the rustic nature of the town, our accommodation was surprisingly warm and comfortable. Three of were in a mezzanine studio, which worked well for us. A huge breakfast was provided. We couldn't eat it all and took tarts away for morning tea. We didn't go any further for dinner, the taverna had a substantial menu and all our tastes were well catered for.
Cons: We loved everything!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was just what we expected! Some parts of the walls were huge rocks even in the bathroom. The location was also perfect. There were some restaurants and shops near the accommodation and it took only few minutes to the castle.

Pros: Amazing apartment built into the rocks. Comfortable and unique. Park your car and take a small pack with enough for a night or two up to the top of the most incredible village we saw in Portugal. Not a long walk. Check in at the restaurant where the food is also great (you’ll have a lovely breakfast there).

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, modern home in a rural and rustic part of Portugal. Family friendly. Swimming pool and pool house were fantastic. I could cook dinner and keep an eye out on the yard while the kids swam and played each evening. My husband and I could sit outside and drink a glass of port and watch the stars each night. We loved the plentiful breakfast - something new and delicious each day! Tons of castles nearby and plenty of small towns to explore. Lots of hiking. Gorgeous and alien terrain. It was a real getaway from normal life. We plan to return!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: it's a perfect place to spend a few days in a silence of a potuguese village. The village is very neat and quiet. People are friendly. There is a small river in about 1.5 km (30 minutes walk with children) from Carya, so you can walk and watch cows, pigs and goats. Very nice and clean swimming pool at Carya. Breakfasts are carried to your room at 9 a.m/ and there are very tasty and wonderful things- fresh juice (a mixture,ex mango and orange, kiwi and peach),freshly made bread and homemade pie or pancakes, cheese, milk, jams. We were really impressed. Someone made that pie for us! There is a parking and the territory of Carya is well maintained. there are also a couple of places for a picnic.
Cons: For me the only minus is that territory of Carya is not too large- not much for children to do. But there is a pool and a space for some football on the grass.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at the 2 bedroom house (chalet), very comfortable and well equipped. (detached from the other accommodations). The property is also really nice (rural) and the staff is great, very kind people. It is located in a tiny village, and close to many other medieval villages and castles in the area. Close to Sabugal, where you can find stores and supermarkets (the tiny village itself has nothing). We had a fresh breakfast at our door every morning, what was a plus!
Cons: Just as a tip, the gps maybe can send you to an unpaved road to access the small village and property, but there is a better access (paved) nearby.

7.0 Good
Pros: Spacious, clean, well appointed and priced.
