Great as usual. Nosier than I remember. The steaks were very good and big. I had a take home. We had a large strawberry shortcake for desert. Good wine variety and prices.
Was in town and was able to arrange dinner with my sister and two nieces. The meal was great but a little pricy - If in town again, I will go back!
I try to come to Durant's every Dpring Training. Over the years they have never disappointed! That's saying something!
Love coming here- Have not been in several years. Happy to see it has not changed.
Durant's is our favorite special occasion location. Food is fantastic, service prompt and friendly, atmosphere warm and inviting.\n\nOur 'go to' for special memories.
Classic old-school steakhouse. Food quality stacks up with the ambiance.
We recently celebrated my birthday at Durant's. Wonderful old school steakhouse ambience, with a friendly and approachable waitstaff. We never felt rushed, which is a particular pet peeve of mine at so many restaurants. The leek and garlic dinner bread is to die for, and the ribeye steak was cooked exactly to order, tender and delicious. It rained that night, which created the perfect final touch to a cozy and memorable dinner. We will be back! Durant's does it right!
A real throwback! Great atmosphere, great food, great service. Couldn't ask for more.
Waiter and food was amazing. Great and big portions. Just very dark for me at lunch time
Durants lived up to my expectations. I have dined there many times and enjoyed it as much as always. The waiter was excellent and unobstrusive. We were dining with friends that we hadn't seen for several months and who had asked us to go there as they had heard us talk about it. It certainly met their expectations too.
This is a wonderful, old time steak joint. You enter through the kitchen and your experience takes off from there. Lonnie and Kevin are 2 great waiters. Pricey, but you won't be disappointed.
Great as always. Ambiance and service was top notch as it always is. \n\nFood was great as well. Heard happy hour is great but never in the area at that time.
I really enjoyed dinning at Durant's, from the start with the back door entry through the kitchen and the unique lighting and ambiance it was an enjoyable evening beginning to end. Drinks were well made, food was prepared perfectly. Only critique I have was the shrimp the in the cocktail could of been a little fresher I feel. But was still a great dish, one that I would order again. Would definitely recommend, and will return next time I am in town.
Durant's is such an iconic restaurant in the Central Phoenix corridor, and one of my favorite places my dad took me to as a tween (30+ years ago)... the food, the rustic atmosphere, the attentive service-not much has changed, but Durant's maintains its humble, timeless quality that brings the nostalgia bubbling forth. \nI've never had their prime rib, but three of our party of 5 ordered it, and it was superb!
This was a highly recommended, historic phoenix restaurant. Met and exceeded expectations at all levels. Excellent food, well prepared, solicitous staff, unique ambiance. Will certainly revisit when in Phoenix in the future.
Overall a really nice experience. Very vintage, old school place with the naugahyde booths, flocked wallpaper, somber lighting and mid-20th century vibe. Like a place Goodfellas met for business ;-) It really is not fancy by any stretch. It's exterior is profoundly modest and, like I say, the decor is like what we remember as 'fine' restaurants in our youth (I'm in my 60s). The food was very good, and the service was truly outstanding. But, oh!, those prices! Most steaks were in the upper $50/$60 range, and some considerably more. Ok, you get soup or salad, which were great, but still. It reminds me of a cool old place in LA's Koreatown, Taylor's Steakhouse, but Taylor's prices are a fraction of this place. I enjoyed it; it was like stepping back in time, but I really cannot see how they justify their prices. That said, it's popular, so there you go.
Was an old school steakhouse.Service was awesome the delmonico steak was perfect as was the sirloin my wife had.If you are in PHX do misss this treat.
Very well cooked steaks but sides and appetizers don't match up especially at the outlandish price charged for them. Competent service. Overall one goes for the old traditional steakhouse atmosphere but much better steaks are to be had in Phoenix
While the soup and prime rib were tasty everything was luke warm. The prices are excessive for the overall quality
A classic steakhouse. Red leather booths in a darkened room! From the street it doesn't catch your eye. If it weren't for the big sign overhead you could mistake it for deserted. You enter around back thrush a door that takes you through the kitchen. I chose the Delmonico and it was phenomenal. Soup of the day was vegetable beef and it was good enough to be an entree on its own. My wife felt the desserts were lacking. Good but not great. It was busy enough that the noise kept it from being romantic. Definitely a place to celebrate with family and friends.
The night we were there we were seated in the bar area and it was very noisy.\nWe were bringing a couple from North Carolina with us to help celebrate a\nfriend's 84th birthday and could hardly hear what everyone was saying.\nOur service was not the best - very slow. Next time we would request not\nsitting in the bar area.
Ordered steak and sides everything tasted great right down to the bread. I like the atmosphere in there, it's relaxing and comforting. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Excellent as always! Try the sirloin baseball cut! Very tender.
Fantastic food, service and ambiance. The walk through the kitchen on the way in was a really cool thing to do. The prime rib was exceptional. My husband had the crab cakes which I don't care for personally but he loved them. Will surely be back and would highly recommend.
Food is always great, so is the service, only gripe is the small table for two by the bar, really small especially when the food is on the tiny table next time we will try to request another table
We went for our anniversary and loved it. The waiter was awesome and we truly felt he cared about our experience
Wanted a classic. Got it. Loved the decor. Great friendly warm service. Somewhat pricey but generous portions. We split the entre and server readily endorsed. Really wish I had room for dessert
Always outstanding. Service exceptional. Food fantastic. One of the very best restaurants in the Valley of the Sun.
Excellent restaurant with gourmet meals and good wine list but, since our last visit it seems as though they have added more tables making it too crowded with not enough space between other guests which diminishes the ambience.
Steaks here are outstanding!! Dessert was amazing also! We go here every time we are in Phoenix, and we are always extremely happy with the food and the service!!
Food is always excellent at Durant's. the staff is polite and well trained. Look forward to dining again.
Everything was great, the service was beyond great.
Dinner was excellent and a treat for us all. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly. The coffee drinkers loved the coffee, and were impressed by the tray of condiments that arrived to add to their cups.
Everything was delicious as always!
Nice old iconic AZ. It's like stepping back in time the service, friendly and not overbearing. A bit pricy but all well worth it.
Great food and service in an old style classy environment. This visit was our annual Valentine's Day and Anniversary dinner and it was superb as always.
appreciated the waiter splitting our meal. some older folks just can't handle big meals anymore :)
Great ambiance in a nice location downtown. Incredible food, and a pleasant dining experience.
I have been going to Durant's for years. It's THE place in Phoenix when you really want the best steak available. Yes, it's a bit pricey, and I will never be able to afford to go there as often as I would like, but when it's time to get that filet mignon, there's no substitute for Durant's. \n\nPhoenix is a relatively young town. Buildings that are a century old are unheard of; Durant's has been a Phoenix fixture since 1950. It's as close to 'old Phoenix' as it gets. My ex-wife's grandmother used to stake out one particular table at Durant's because it was strategically located for people-watching. There's a pretty good chance that you will see someone you recognize there.\n\nIn any case, the steak is unrivaled. The red flocked wallpaper makes Durant's a one-of-a-kind place, and walking through the kitchen in the back of the restaurant to get to your table is one of those crazy things that makes visitors feel like they are sort of 'insiders.' It's great to walk through and be cheerfully greeted by a number of people in the kitchen, and it's sort of a tradition.\n\nThe wait staff is efficient and unobtrusive. They know you're there for a special occasion, because every time you visit Durant's it IS a special occasion, no matter what the day. I have taken my girl to Durant's on Valentine's Day since I met her four years ago, and I'll be making my Valentine's Day reservations for next year shortly. It's really just that memorable.\n\nA while ago, there was an ad campaign for Durant's: billboards around town used to say 'Durant's -- it's how steak is done.' Even though I haven't seen that for a long time, everyone in the city of Phoenix who wants a good steak knows that's true. I can't recommend it enough.
First, you feel like you're a friend when enter from the parking lot through the kitchen, hearing the sizzle of steaks as you walk through. The hostess seated us promptly as we had made reservations. It was Valentine's Day so ever seat was taken. We started off light with the 6 oysters that came with horseradish and a cocktail sauce, which were delicious. We were starving and ordered what felt like everything on the menu. We both ordered New York strip steaks which were cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. In addition, we ordered the steamed asparagus which was perfect al dente as well as the crab Mac and cheese. What we both sincerely regret was not ordering the Porterhouse. For a cool hundo, you get a 48oz steak with potato side, along with being entered into the porterhouse club at Durant's. And if you're still pecish after tossing down nearly 3 pounds of red meat down your gullet, they finish it off with a large strawberry shortcake. All in all, amazing experience, great food and loved the ambience. Next anniversary will definitely be at Durant's.
Delicious as always. Oyster Rockerfella , Italian wedding soup, pork chop sweet potato fries, and onion rings
Service is always spectacular. All three entrees cooked to perfection.
Enjoyed a lovely Valentine's Day dinner. We always enjoy the 'old Phoenix ' classy atmosphere. The food never disappoints and cocktails are spot on! Treat yourself to a Martini or Old Fashion. Their bread soaked in seasoned butter is not to be missed!
Wonderful dining experience at Durant's! Old school and outstanding in every respect, great food!
My wife & I went for an early Valentines .... WOW the whole place was decorated in the theme. Food & Service was excellent
We reserve our special occasions for Durants. Always have good time and have never been disappointed! Plan to be back soon.
Good to place for any special occasion.
Going here is always a treat. The food is consistently good and of high quality. This restaurant opened in 1950 and the interior is still the same. Think red flocked wallpaper, red booths. Love the ambiance!\nSave room for the best strawberry shortcake you will ever eat!
Outstanding menu & service! Higher prices than other steak houses, but the quality was excellent. Recommend for special occasions. The restaurant was decorated for Valentine's Day with heart-shaped helium balloons at every table & attractive floral arrangements throughout.
One of the best steak house experiences in my life... no joke. A must
Usually fantastic, my ribeye was tough and the waitress was sometimes hard to find. Also, something was different about the bread. Otherwise, it was the very best oysters Rockefeller I've ever had anywhere else. My friends who ordered the prime rib were not disappointed.
Great special occasion place. One of my Dad's favorites.
We will be back, next time we visit Phoenix.
We had a very good meal steaks were very good best we have had there... It's pricey\ncan't afford to go very often only for special occasions. We celebrated Valentines\nDay early. Waiter was good no complaints and it was good to see Natalie was still\nthere.
This was our second visit to Durants and it lived up to all expectations. The service is impeccable. It was nicely decorated for Valentine's Day ( and was stunningly decorated for Christmas on our first visit). The food is wonderful. They are famous for their steaks, which we had on our first visit, so I was a little anxious when I ordered the shrimp. Six of the largest butterfly shrimp covered the plate along with a very delicious baked potato. My wife's prime rib was, in her words, perfect. And the price was excellent - to be honest I was surprised at how low it was. I don't think you can go wrong going to Durants for a special occasion. For us it was our anniversary.
Durant's is an old time standard that continues to provide a quality product and outstanding service as one would expect! Bottom line Scallops were over he top and I truly enjoyed the Prime Rib!
Always lovely. One of our favorite places for a special evening.
This was my first time to Durant's and I was extremely pleased with everything. I will be back soon!
Just a great old fashioned steak house. Excellent food, service and authentic surroundings.
We always love eating at Durant's and would recommend it to anyone wanting a great meal.\nThe bar is fun, with excellent drinks. We always enjoy eating at Durant's. The food was great and the cheese cake was so good.
This was our Valentine's Day dinner, our waiter Lonnie was amazing. This a landmark in central phoenix, worth drive and always every penny.
Great dinner experience with the wife. We both enjoyed the food and service. Will return.
Durant's is getting better and better.\n\nI've been going there for over 40 years
Great steaks and ambience. Meal was a little rushed for the price.
Love it. The oyster rockerfella is the best.
Always a great time.
As always a great evening\nWe gather with these folks two to three times a year.\nWe count the days till our next visit.
Always a great experience
Sadly times change. The food was OK but not something I would recommend any longer. A lot of money for something that tasted like a chain restaurant meal.
Wonderful food and excellent service. Would recommend to anyone visiting Phoenix.
Good old school upscale place to dine.Decor very rich and comfortable.Wait staff and. At area incredible.
fabulous dinner and service ! Durant's is always a great place to have a special evening !
This was our first time to Durant's as we are from out of town. It was highly recommended by my business associate as a great place to take my wife and friends. The food was great, ambiance was what I expected from a good old fashioned steak house..big bar, good size portions and a great wine list. Highly recommend this place for the steak and ambiance. You will never forget how you entered this place..thru the kitchen!
Always a great experience, food is top notch albeit on the high side. Service is impeccable and attentive. Best of all, to me, we weren't rushed to finish and get out; we felt as if we could take our time, and we did.
Great food is the hallmark of Durant's. When making the reservation the staff was very responsive to our 'bar seating' request. Our waiter was friendly and very instructive of the menu items. Bar service was quick and professional. We will definitely return.
We selected Durant's as a historic Phoenix steakhouse to celebrate my friends birthday. I said they would love it, talked up the service, ambiance, bar, drinks and food. The day arrived and we got to Durant's. The bar experience was all that I promised. Afterwards we got seated and then... the waiter assigned to us was abysmal. We couldn't get drinks. We couldn't get bread. She wouldn't take an appetizer order. When we finally got a drink, she botched pouring the wine. :( I complained to the manager about her several times but finally asked that he assign a new waiter to us. He accommodated the request. Our new waiter was amazing. Everything was as I remembered and expect from Durant's. The rest of the evening went perfectly. Thank you to the manager for correcting the situation and nice recovery!!
Seating booths a bit tight for four gentlemen. Food was great!
Great atmosphere food was excellent a good place for special occasions I will go there for dinner again
If you've been fortunate (and old) enough to have dined at Ernie's in San Francisco you'll love Durant's. Dark woods, flocked wallpaper and a comfortable elegance has no equal anywhere in the Valley. Martinis and steaks are their specialty, but the Chicken Piccata is wonderful as well. Service (this time at the hand of Ron, our favorite) was impeccable as always. All in all, a terrific meal and uniquely positive experience.
Outstanding. \n\nHave I reached 50 characters yet? A little presumptuous of you, no?
Classic 'old school' style steakhouse! If you love a great steak this is a must do experience.
Thank you. Our waiter, Vic I believe, was outstanding. Food and wine were perfect. Could not have been happier.
Outstanding service and food. Rib-eye steak was wonderful and perfectly cooked and the martini--indeed 'perfect!'
Durant's is always top notch, go there quite often and never had a bad experience, staff is great, food is great, love this place!
What a great place, in from California for business and was told by a local it was a must see. Couldn't agree more, if you have never been there it should be on your bucket list. Not inexpensive but as in most cases you get what you pay for.
Disappointed \nOverpriced\nSteaks overdone \nNothing really special about the meal.
We decided on this Valley icon for our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. We noted it was our anniversary when we made the reservation and it was so sweet to see not only the hostess welcome and wish us a Happy Anniversary when we checked in, but also our server when he came to our table. We had a booth right near the bar which was fine because it was great people watching. I ordered the NY strip steak and it was cooked perfectly to my order of medium and seasoned wonderfully. Probably one of the best steaks I have ever had!! Thanks also for the anniversary dessert (we chose cheesecake.) Wonderful service, ambiance and food. We need to get back when it isn't a special occasion. I think sitting at the bar at happy hour one time would be a blast.
Food was delicious. Best Filet I ever had! Loved the walk through the kitchen after the complementary valet in back. Shout out to our server Becky. She was tremendous. Thanks for encouraging us to head to Sedona! Awesome. We'll be back.
We always pick Durant's for our special occasions we live it there.
Good food and fun old fashioned ambiance. All in all a great place.
Great meal as always. Best filet mignon and mushrooms ever. Their house French garlic dressing is the best salad dressing ever.
Love this restaurant and can't wait to return. Possibly the best Prime rib ever.\nOld town Phoenix feel like a scene from Goodfellas. Wonderful service, wine list, and ambiance. You can't go wrong with this valley gem.
My ribeye was cooked to perfection! Exactly how I requested.
Everything went well and the food was great. Four adult males were squeezed into a booth probably that should hold 3 people max. Made for tight quarters.
Restaurant has really changed over the years. The good quality has decreased and the prices have really increased. Removing wood oven was a mistake.
Best steaks in all of Phoenix. Excellent service and all our needs we're met.
A classic restaurant with a lot of character. Service was spot on and everyone had a great time.
As always, the atmosphere, the food and the service was excellent!
Awesome! Best steak in Phoenix
This place is famous for the steaks. Get a steak, enjoy yourself. It is pricey but totally worth it for the experience and the food is amazing! Get a (family style) side of potatoes au gratin. Filet is amazing, we also got a NY strip and a top sirloin and all steak was fabulous! Skip the veggies they're very plain, crab cakes not too amazing either. Shrimp, calamari are great too!
Loved this place! Entrance most unique I've seen!! Great service!!!
Greg provided exceptional personable service. Every bite from the butter garlic leek bread to salads, prime rib, filet mignon and mushrooms, was cooked to perfection. Some great looking dessert dishes walked by. The generous portions of our meals precluded dessert, so we will be back for appies, salad and dessert next time.
Love the history and atmosphere at Durant's. While a bit pricey, it is no more expensive than the other chop houses in Phoenix. Our server was warm, fast, and friendly. The food was outstanding. Perfect for a special occasion.
What a wonderful fine-dining experience. The food was delicious-had the shrimp cocktail to start and an 8 ounce filet mignon, which made delicious left-overs the next day. My husband had the crab cakes which were also tasty and cooked to perfection. We ended our meal with the brownie sundae and were not disappointed. It was huge and we couldn't even finish it all. We've been here before and it is certainly worth a return visit. The place was busy yet we were treated like we were the only ones there.
When Durant's did their remodel, they found the place that made their flocked red wallpaper originally, and they had it reproduced. This is a classic steak & martini place, once and still where Phoenix power brokers mix with young men impressing their dates and older couples like us. The staff has been there a long time, and they know what they're doing. It's moderately expensive, but we think it's worth every penny. Plus, if you have the valet park you, you'll enter through the kitchen. Check it out!
A perfect lunch to celebrate my husbands promotion. We needed to make a few adjustments to out original reservation and everyone was understanding and gracious. Great food and great service.
Great food. Great service. Will definitely be back
Great old school dining experience. I had an opportunity to go to another steak house the following night and Durant's was by far the better steak. A real treat to have a steak prepared so well.
We've been going to good restaurants in the States for 25 years, but never ever had such a wonderful horseradish as this place has. Keep it, please!
My wife and I love Durant's! We brought some friends tonight. They have never experience Durant's. They loved the food the atmosphere and etc... \n\n My wife and I don't get out too often anymore with our 4 month old son. We where both happy we choose Durant's for a great night out with family and friends.
We were running EXTREMELY LATE for our reservation, NO PROBLEM said Durant's! We were seated within moments of our arrival and the GREAT SERVICE/EXPERIENCE continued from there. My wife enjoys her steaks BURNT, needless to say Durant's can make a WELL DONE Steak that's properly charred and still as juicy as my medium rare! We had a couple of drinks that were poured with a little extra care just to our liking. We were stuffed, sent home with a large doggy bag and well prepared for a long night on the town. Thank you Durant's, I've been meaning to get around to dining with you folks for 15 years, and when I finally got to it I WAS AMAZED!! I can't wait to get back down Central ave. for round two, three, four........
Service and food was very good. The meat, while tasty, was dry; as though it was precooked. We expected better from Durant's.
Excellent classic local steak house full of history!
Always great food and service. Our go-to spot for celebrations.
Great old school steak house and martini bar \n\nClassic entrance through the kitchen and friendly kitchen staff is awesome
Food was fantastic, but the restaurant is very noisy.
Food was outstanding! Prepared perfectly. It was
Outstanding food. Steak was excellent and grilled to perfection. Everything was great.
I am sure that if i had a waitress that was not quite as rude, condescending and insulting my review might be better for Durant's. Just to be clear, my server was: Ilima/107 on check #: 209489 on 12.20.16. I have never had a waiter or waitress in my life question me in such a condescending and rude manner: 1.) Ask for my steak to be cooked in a specific manner and condescendingly being told I don't know what i am talking about 2.) pull out a flashlight and question my request that my steak be cooked as i requested previously but was made to feel like i didn't know what i was speaking about and 3.) tossed a plate and told to put my meat on the plate so she could take it back.\n\ni feel bad writing a negative review as form what i am told Durant's has amazing service; however, this woman is the epitome of what you do not want to see when you sit down at a restaurant of this caliber. I had taken my customers out to dinner and they spoke about the pathetic service multiple times throughout the rest of the evening....it was disgusting and also embarrassing to receive this type of service.\n\nI am not going to judge Durant's based solely upon the behavior of this poor excuse of a waitress but I most certainly would not choose Durant's the next time i am taking a customer to dinner in Phoenix or suggest it to friends for fear that this might happen to them
Haven't been there in some time as I'm not as close as I used to be. The best of the best of a classic steakhouse! Puts all the 'trendy' steakhouses to shame. Classical setting, excellent food & service. Solid number 1 in the valley.
Was very pleased with the food, ambiance and service! Be prepared for high prices, but you get what you pay for.
Durant's never disappoints. I have been going there the last 15 years for special occasions, business meetings, and for no reason at all. I have never had a bad meal or bad service. In fact, I have always received the best of everything, every time!
Fantastic food with an ambiance, class and sophistication of a bygone era... This iconic restaurant is a must to go to. There steaks are divine. Actually the chicken, fish, lamb etc are amazing as well. Its one of those places that does not charge you for a potato and soup/salad. A choice of a starch and vegetable, salad or soup comes with your meals.
This was a very enjoyable spot to spend time with new friends and network. The food was really well prepared. Our steaks were fantastic. If we were in the area again, we would definitely return.
perfect. impeccable. interesting. stimulating. genuine. delicious. artistic.
With a classic steakhouse ambiance of red velvet wall paper and leather banquettes, Durant's was exactly as described. With crudités , large portions and steaks that actually tasted well aged and better prepared, this was a treat
Excellent food and service. We loved it and will definitely go back in the future.
Outstanding and second to none as always!! You have never been anything close to less than 5 star! For the first time, we had taken out two boys with us. It was our oldest 21st birthday. They in their own right are 'foodies'. They have been taught very early on how to cook so they definitely know their way around the kitchen. They have been listening to us brag about your restaurant all of their lives. Huge seafood fans. They were absolutely blown away!! I thank you so much for that. It turned a, once in a lifetime day into a life long, perfect memory for all four of us!\n\nMy youngest is exactly 21 mos, to the day, from turning 21 and he is stoked!
In the last 30 years I've been dining at Durants, do you want to know what's changed? \n\nNothing. And that's what makes it perfect. The food is consistently and simply great, the cocktails strong, the service professional. \n\nDurants fits the old axiom - 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it!'\n\nThe only fixin' needed for Durants is to be fixin' to make the next reservation. I'll be back soon.
One of our many visits to Durants and our fourth New Year's eve visit. Great food, great service and great ambience. My first visit to Durants was as a young intern at good Samaritan hospital in1963. I had never had a steak like that and The tradition continues
Great table, great food but disappointed that I was seated next to the loudest family ever. I suppose that isn't the restaurants fault but man, they nearly ruined our night out.
Durrant's is always a favorite. The quality of meat and the way they prepare the food excellent. Highly recommended
One of our favorite neighborhood spots! A must do for any occasion that brings you to Midtown Phoenix.
We were new to the Phoenix area and decided to get online to look at restaurants in the area. Durant's sounded like a very nice historical restaurant we wanted to try. We looked at the dinner menu online and it included a variety of dinner dishes to choose from but it DID NOT include prices. We were rather surprised at the high prices. The food was excellent and I'm glad we went but next time we're back in the area I'm not sure we would go back. \nPlease include prices on your website
Always amazing! It is expensive but awesome for special occasions.
We made the reservation a week in advance for 2:00 pm and asked for a specific room and place in the room because of hearing problems. The receptionist grumbled that they needed to set the room up for dinner (at 2:00 pm?). We were finally seated right next to an entry door which turned out to be very noisy. There were others in the room but the noise came fro an adjoining room. Two members of our party found the meal to be EXCELLENT. I ordered the special lunch, fish and chips. The chips turned out to be home made potato chips. Potato chips in fish and chips. On a scale of 1 to 10 and compared to Lay's chips they were a 1. The vegetables were limp and unappetizing. Two of us had apple cobbler with ice cream. The waitress said the cobbler would be warm. It was cold with a crust that was not completely cooked. We have been going to Durants' since the 1960's and drive in from Tempe, a trip of about 15 miles. We will not be doing it again for a long time, if ever.
The restaurant was not crowded. Our waiter was not very attentive.
Great place to dine for every occasion.
This was a second visit that was as memorable as the first. Love the history behind it and the food was great!
Food was great, but service was poor. Waitress was inattentive and we had to flag her down several times during the dinner. For a big $300 bill, I was expecting a little better than we received. Was there for a birthday and it took so long to get our food we skipped the free birthday dessert... also had a bus person give us our bill and then they forgot to give us back our bank card and we had to get it the next day.
Amazing place. Great food
One of the best filet mignons I have ever had prepared exactly as I ordered it. Melts in your mouth. Has to be one of the few remaining 'old school' steakhouses. Where else would you find red frocked wallpaper nowadays? Dark bar. Friendly bartender. Not for the light wallet. Extensive and fairly expensive wine list. Was very noisy when I was there but it was Christmas week. Still, a very enjoyable experience. You just have to recognize where you are going. As it has been for 60(?)+ years: recommended. An institution. Hope its still going strong the next time I am in Phoenix.
The food and service was excellent. This is a restaurant that has special meaning to my wife and I. We always enjoy the great quality and portions of the food. Our waiter (David) was very attentive. We were able to share this place with our son and his wife. They have heard us talk about Durant's but have never been there. They said we will go back.
Was seated right next to the bar. It was noisy. First round of cocktails took long to get and we cancelled the second round because it was taking even longer. It was myself and my husband and the two seater table in the corner left side of the was too small. It was on a Thursday. We made reservations online for 6pm. We've been there on a Saturday night and were seated at a booth and was not next to the bar. We thought about requesting another seat but we didn't feel like the inconvenience . We ate and left as quick as possible. The waiter was more attentive to larger group tables vs. Just us two. We like the food but this last experience was not pleasant. We were celebrating my husband's birthday.
Such a amazing experience from start to finish! Lorraine was amazing! We felt so special throughout the entire meal!
For myself it's been 20 years of excellent dinning or happy hour. Never less then excellent! Great servers and bartenders.
We're from Chicago & Durant's reminded us of a restaurant one would find there. Our waiter was excellent. The only disappointment was my calves liver entree. It was veiny & mushy instead of semi-firm and delicious. It was a great experience enjoyed by me & my daughters!
A tradition. Love this place.
Excellent service and food. Our wait was short and the food was cooked perfect.
The experience was, as usual, very pleasant. The food (Prime Rib, soup for me, salad for guest, sides and drinks) was cooked as ordered and tasted fantastic. Our server was attentive even during the dinner rush. If I had one criticism, it would be the hostess. Since we were a party of 2 and seated at a table that could hold more, she dropped by to 'see how everything was going' which was an obvious hint that since we were done with dinner that we should stop talking and leave. It was obvious because the only other group she talked to had been there longer than us and the placed was rather busy. In any event, we were finished and ready to leave so it was not a real issue.
Another one of Phoenix's best kept secrets! I will definitely go back for the 48oz challenge.
Spectacular from start to finish! Hostess was ready to seat upon arrival. Waitress greeted us immediately with bread and water. She read the specials and we ordered. Food came out quickly. Group ordered: Salmon, Pot Roast, T-Bone and Bone-in-Ribeye. Everyone was pleased.\n\nI'll be back!
Classic grill. Top quality beef & pork. Old fashioned decor. Attentive service that's well paced. Enjoyable way to eat well amid array of diners.
Classic old time Phoenix downtown spot. Excellent food, extensive variety on the menu. The calf liver superb. Hard to find in most restaurants. NY strip very tasty. Fried shrimp excellent. No one in my party was disappointed or offered any criticism.
Such an amazing place. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the food is perfectly prepared. Durant's is a Phoenix gem everyone should try.
Steaks were excellent. Service was outstanding. We highly recommend Durant's.
A very special place to go and the food never disappoints. Had the pot roast and as always it was spectacular. A top-notch restaurant in the very heart of downtown.
This was a fun change of venue. The server did a nice job, and the food was good.
I have loved Durant's for years and have been a loyal patron. However, the lunch menu prices have gone up and are blatantly ridiculous...20 bucks for a cheeseburger?! Someone needs to take a serious look at this and until it changes, I probably won't be back. There are just too many other really great places now downtown. Durant's...grow up!
I made a reservation for a Tuesday night for my boyfriends birthday. We were seated immediately, after entering through the kitchen (which was neat, and we were greeted by the kitchen). We ordered drinks, which arrived quickly. However, our waiter was pushy and did not allow us to enjoy any of the courses we ordered without feeling rushed. It was a slow evening. His birthday went unacknowledged, although I mentioned it in the reservation. I ordered the Prime Rib and he got the Filet. I've had much better Prime Rib, but he enjoyed the Filet. We both got the mashed potatoes, which I enjoyed, even though my counterpart said his were cold. Overall, I expected much better service and food for the price and to not to feel rushed when first trying a restaurant that is supposed to be a Phoenix staple. Will not return or recommend.
Great food and excellent martinis, always the best service
We have been there quite a few times as it is my fiance' s favorite place to go for his birthday. The service was extremely disappointing. Our server was not friendly and the people we were with were extremely disappointed in her lack of customer service. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. My bill was $278.00. For that price we should have been treated much better. We waited and waited for our bill. When she took our orders she was rude and seemed annoyed!!! Unacceptable.
As always, our meal was excellent from start to finish. Thank you again, Durant's, for being a special part of our wedding anniversary celebration!!
The steak was great. Drinks were great. Service was great. A bit overpriced and a bit loud inside.
Have eaten there several times food was good usually great service was not very good usually service is top notch
This is our 'go to' restaurant in Phoenix. We like this the best. We have gone to Mortons, Ruth's Chris, Flemings, and this wins in service and ambiance. The relish tray and bread arrive immediately. There is a wide choice of menu items.. I requested a special (lettuce only) and it was produced immediately. I had prime rib..my companion the salmon. Both exceeded expectations. The vibrant green asparagus was delicious and so colorful. I enjoy using Open Table as it is easy!
I've been waiting to try Durant's for some time and it did not disappoint. Although quite pricey it's well worth the visit. Service was outstanding and food was delicious from start to finish. Make sure you ask for a booth so you can people watch. If you want to impress out-of-towners, Durant's is the place to take them.
As always Durant's was a consistently good dining choice, with the atmosphere and food being the highlights of the show. The deep red velvet walls mixed with dark wood, leather booths, and Christmas decorations makes this the perfect choice for a holiday dinner. My only issue is that the key lime pie changed - this used to be my absolute favorite. On the night I went however it was to sugary and had too much sugary filling on top ð¥. Aside from this, dinner was outstanding. Will go here again and try a new dessert next time.
My husband and I went to Durant's for the first time since moving to the Phoenix area. We were instantly transported back in time to a place with true elegance and where they haven't forgotten that the customer should be treated with class. \nThe food was absolutely outstanding! I had the New York Strip and it was the BEST steak I've had in years!! My husband had the Prime Rib and I've never seen him enjoy a meal so much! \nIt adds to the experience to enter through the back door and through the kitchen. If only I could have been a fly on the wall back in the day!
We love going to Durant's, and this visit didn't disappoint! If you love steak . . . you absolutely have to try Durant's. It's not like any other place in Phoenix. Feels more like some place you'd see in NYC or Chicago. Always one of our favorites!
Durant's has delicious food, great service, excellent ambiance and amazing singers that perform at your table, upon request.
First the good news: excellent service and wine.\n\nThe food was ordinary at best. My husband had under cooked shrimp and his pasta had a disproportional amount of cheese on it.\n\nThe 8 oz steaks were fine but not worth $56. The main seasoning was salt.
Always fabulous food and amazing service. This was the first time being seated in the bar area. Not a fan. It was packed and very loud. Could barely even hear the waiter. I will have to specify from now on where I'd like to sit.
Durant's is a must dine, in Phoenix!
Oysters Rockefeller were delicious as always! Creme Brule for desert was a great finish to the meal!
Incredible old school service with incredible steak and did I mention seafood. Sides are superb as are salad choices. Desert - egg nog creme brûlée - delish!\nA must visit.
Old School charm. Great menu. Love the crudite and fresh bread at the beginning. This is a great treat for anyone who appreciates fine food, old red leather booths and a lively atmosphere. It is pricey, but worth it.
The food at Durant's has really gone down hill. I took some out-of-town friends and they were highly disappointed, though they put on a good face. The prices do not equate with quality.
Durant's always lives up to its almost 70 year reputation for excellent cuisine and exceptional service by truly capable and experienced wait staff. Beef dishes are still predominant, with old favorites like calves liver and sautéed chicken livers still on the menu. The fresh, warm rolls are a special treat, salads are chilled and fresh, and the Roquefort dressing is to die for. Our prime rib was the best we've ever had.
Delicious prime rib in a lovely, lively dining room with friendly and attentive service. Definitely a 5-star experience!
Excellent venue for a business dinner.\nRelaxed pace. Waiters do not push to rush you out.
Every single food item was sublime from the appetizer to the dessert. I recommend the Manhatten Clam Chowder and the pumpkin cheesecake in addition to the meal. Our server, Ron suggested wine for us and it was spot on. Of course, the steaks are fabulous.
Great food and excellent service. Will be back for sure.
Love Durant's, terrific as always. Even though the place was packed on a Saturday night, we had great service, and the food speaks for itself. Best Oscar-style anywhere. Can't wait to be back.
From the parking lot you enter through the kitchen into the restaurant. It was fun to be greeted by the kitchen staff while entering. Steaks were awesome. Desert was special.
Durant's is quintessential Phoenix Steak House dining. A classic!
We had the best steamed clams we have ever had. What a great dinner.
Overall great experience, but was disappointed to be seated at a small two top table when there were many other table options available. Don't be a pleaser like me and ask for the table you want.
We have been here many times over the years and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Having lunch with a friend in a booth in the bar at Durants is one of my favorite outings. Thanks!
Durants had excellent service; delicious food; and amazing ambiance. Loved the Christmas carolers. Definitely will recommend to friends and family.
We love coming to Durant's during the Christmas season - it is just a wonderful experience! The food is of course fabulous, the atmosphere warming, the staff awesome!!
Quality of a restaurant that has been in operation over 50 years was outstanding. Ambience of an old style steakhouse brings a comfort level missing in many modern establishment. I throughly enjoyed it.
Another memorable dining experience at Durant's. From the Maitre D to Corey our waiter and the entire staff we had an enjoyable evening. Perfect atmosphere, service and food. Can't wait to return.
Good and service were wonderful!
Durant's is one of our favorite places to eat. The food, the ambiance, the service - all are top-notch. This time we had top sirloin, prime rib, and shrimp entree. All were perfect. The beverages (martini, wine) were also just what we wanted. Then you add in the mud slide for dessert and it's a fitting ending to a wonderful evening out with friends.
We had looked forward to dining here for years; it was our 45th anniversary and it was well worth it. Oysters Rockefeller and Shrimp cocktail were excellent. My wife enjoyed the liver but it was just warm when served. Ribeye was cooked perfectly and tasted great.\nHad a great vodka martini and a fine bottle of Prisoner wine. Good evening and very nice staff
Love Durant's, our go to when in Phoenix. Amazing food, drinks, and ambiance.
Amazing !! Food service everything was exactly what we wanted..Food was Amazing ..Did not care about the Price VG
This was my first time to Durant's. The restaurant is a throw back to the elegant dining and classy dining of the east coast in the fifties. The staff is polite and attentive. Our waitress was always alert to our needs. The food came quickly and the Prime Rib was out of this world. I'm 67 and I haven't been a restaurant of this level of class for a long time. This was a great experience for our 25th anniversary. Thank you for being there and keep up the great work.
Delicious steak and prime rib with a very nice wine list. The oysters were delicious too.
We were celebrating our 51st anniversary with dear friends. We were all there 2 years ago and wanted to return. Beautiful atmosphere and of course wonderful food. We are snowbirds and plan to return soon when family visits. Not to be missed!!!
Way, Way Way overpriced. Ordered 8oz Filet med. Came med well @$58. \nBuilding is old and showing age. Service very good but not enough to justify rediculous prices or cooks that don't know how to cook a steak medium. \nPhoenix institution that needs a facelift.
Outstanding service and food. A piece of Phoenix 's history for over 60 years.
We had a wonderful meal......the best Prime Rib we've had since last time we visited Durants ! Cudos to our server..Patrick ...excellent !
I've been to Durants many times and the food was delicious as always customer service was great my only complaint is the prices have gone out of control. I had the bone New York (yum) $60!!!!!!\n2 glasses of (not special but good) wine 2 entrees (1 steak 1 scampi pasta and 2 deserts and espresso) $240 with 15%tip WOW! Don't get me wrong everything else was perfect I just feel that's a little much
Durants is always a treat, a throw back to the 'High End Steak Houses' of the 60's. For consistency of Food and Service you can't beat Duarnts.
Everytime I come to the Phoenix area, I make it a point to eat at Durant's. I have never been disappointed.
This restaurant always great. Good food and great bartenders. This is our favorite restaurant. The food was better this visit than the last time we were there.
Another great meal in our favorite restaurant. The food and the ambience combine for a great evening every time. The fabulous martinis are the perfect starter.
yes a classic steakhouse setting with the red velvet 'look' - dim lighting, and soft leather seats and booths. Classic menu options. Good martini with excellent options. Decent wine by the glass and even half-bottles. I must complement the fresh blue point oysters - they were the size of silver dollars and so very fresh and tasted fabulous. Kudos for those. The steak was perfectly prepared 'Pittsburg rare - or black and blue as the waitress clarified - as was my wife's rare prime rib. If only it were not so far from North Scottsdale...
First time I went to Durant's I loved it... so go there to experience a Phoenix landmark\nThe Martinis and staff are awesome.. \n\nUnfortunately the novelty worn off on the second visit and with all the other FAB restaurants in PHX and Scottsdale I will not be back on my own accord. the red velvet wallpaper and the Goodwill-ish paintings are old-school if you like that décor\n\nThe place is over priced and the food is just Average... \nThe Filet 8 oz is $50 and 12 oz $70 and I found it on the dry side, I ordered with a baked potato ..yawn \nThe crab cake app was $23.75, a single small cake 3 inches in diameter, very mushy and smelly, no surface crunch.. we stopped half way .. I should of sent it back but I avoided the hassle.. my fault..ugh
The best Prime Rib in town and has been for the 50 years that I have been going there.\nGreat service but a little rushed but that is also part of the charm and character.\nGood value and it is also a perfect lunch an cocktail place.\nAnother great anniversary dinner...\nThanks
glad I finally was able to go and enjoy the restaurant week menu service and food were very good ..although looking at the prices on the regular menu I'm sure this will be a special occasion place or maybe a stop at the bar..
3rd Time here. Special Place when we come to Phoenix. Love the entrance through the kitchen. Ambiance is perfect. Food incredible. Our server Kenny G was the best. He kept the food coming and the glasses full. He was also great on wine recommendations
I had the tenderloin and wow was it amazing. Even if you didn't chew the steak, there is no way you could choke as it just melted in your mouth. Wow, cooked perfect, seasoned perfectly and amazing.\nWhile on the spendier side, it is worth every penny. I will gladly pay for excellence.
The only thing this restaurant really has going for it is the rat pack atmosphere. The food is grossly overpriced and average. I knew we were in trouble when they brought out dried up carrot sticks along with a scallion and two black olives with some ranch dressing out of a jar.
Durant's is classic in every way: food, drinks, service, ambiance. No pretensions about health food!
It was perfect
Excellent eats! Service was a little slow, probably because they were really busy.
This is great place for some very good steaks! The Yelp website suggest that attire is very formal but in reality it is very casual. We had the calamari as well and it was outstanding.
Our dinner at Durant's was wonderful! The service and food were excellent. It was a memorable evening celebrating our tenth anniversary!
Another good visit to Durant's. Noise level was loud but not too loud to have a decent conversation. Comfort food for lunch today was hot and fresh (calamari, specialty burger and a turkey/avocado sandwich). Our server was mostly non-existent even though crowd was light, but service was not too bad. Typical Durant's pricing, a bit pricey, but it doesn't stop me from going back every time.
Great food and service!
Dined here looking for a good steak... Our server was OUTSTANDING and the steaks were very good. My husband's filet done perfectly to medium and my Delmonico was cooked Pittsburg rare, but only on one side not both, which was a little disappointing, but this is normal. The chefs did prepare the steak correctly. We ordered wine and our server suggested another, little light for us, however the server offered to switch the bottle to the one he suggested. Nice touch but we ordered it, not the restaurant's fault. Excellent variety of Bourbons, Scotch and Whiskey's... Overall we would go back....
Great service and food. Noticed five days later on the receipt that we paid $30 for deserts that were supposed to be free with the chips we presented. I didn't review it that night as my mother in law tripped and fell by the bar area as she was making her way to the car with her husband. No fault of Durants, but it distracted me from paying attention. We always have a great time.
I was intrigued by walking through the kitchen to get into the main dining area. Walking through the kitchen gave me some insight as to how good this meal was going to be tonight. The service was fantastic with an attention to detail. Then the food came, everything was cooked to perfection and the taste of each course was excellent. I will be back!
food didnt live up to expectations. Steaks were above average , but definitely not what we expected given the reviews and history of the estalishment. Desserts were very good an d service was excellent.
Still a great place after all these years. On a Saturday night, the place was full and the bar was hopping. I love the wine list. The selection is ample and diverse though not huge, and the wines are priced better than any restaurant I know.
Durant's is a great steakhouse with fine wines, fine steaks, and superb service. It is definitely worth it. And everyone in the restaurant is delighted to have you come there. A truly wonderful experience.
Fantastic dining, as always. Greg did a great job with food and drink recommendations.
Interesting restaurant--you enter through the kitchen, decor lots of red velvet. The steaks are the best I've ever eaten. A great find and a must if you love steak!
From start to finish this was a great dining experience. The staff and kitchen did not miss a beat and were totally on Q the whole time. If you are looking for a top steak place, with great drinks and a comprehensive wine list and that has been around for decades, it's totally worth the drive to downtown PHX. Bravo!
No one does this entree better than Durant's. it's too bad that the valley is so lacking in chefs who have any interest at all. Durant's kitchen staff are really experts at grilling.
Wen loved our dining experience at DURANT's. We have lived in Scottsdale for 23 years and this was our first visit. The menu is great a pricey, but we hit it during Restaurant Week and our 3 course meal plus a glass of wine was a great value. We lucked out. We will return however!
Consistently great food. Atmosphere is warm and charming. Gotta try the debris and chicken liver appetizers. Fantastic!
The service is great you never have to want for anything
The ambiance and decor are beautiful. It sets the mood for the night. The food was cooked to perfection and was delicious. Our server was excellent. I believe a server can either enhance your dinner or take away from it. Our server made our special occasion even better. A big thanks to him. We will be back.
I have been wanting to dine at Duant's for years. It truly exceeded my expectations! They practice the lost art of creating a real dining experience. Service was impeccable. Food was delicious. Ambiance was straight out of a 'goodfellas' type movie. Loved every minute of it!
I've never really cared for Durant's but this time it was absolutely delicious! Everything was prepared properly, service was on-point and we had an excellent time celebrating my parent's anniversary. Thank you!
I would not return, service was friendly, but the food was lack luster. The salad was good.
Have not been here in probably 20 years or so. We went and it was fantastic, service was excellent as was the food. You will enjoy this one but remember its a busy place most evenings. Don't forget to go into the venue through the kitchen just follow the red carpet and you'll end up in the dining room. Have fun!
This is the only restaurant we have found that routinely serves calves liver and knows how to cook it properly. They also serve first class sea food - fresh and skillfully prepared.. in thirty-five years, no meal has ever disappointed.. Cannot say the same for any other restaurant in the Valley.
As always - Durant's shines! The food was spectacular, the service couldn't possibly be improved. Everything was absolutely wonderful and is consistently wonderful.
Our time this evening was very special first time for my guest they where beyond impressed
Great time. Excellent food. Love the Debris and Crab Cake.
We started with a cocktail in the bar while waiting for our dinner mates. atmosphere was casual and friendly easy place to carry on a conversation. Once our friends arrived we were quickly seated in a comfortable spot and made to feel appreciated by our waiter and the other staff members throughout our almost 3 plus hours at the restaurant we never felt rushed or pressured and the meal was wonderful as always and it allowed us to enjoy our friends company and the restaurant for the evening at a very casual pace form cocktails to appetizer to desert. a great evening was had by all!
Durants' fifties charm engages all the notable senses of today. If you're looking for a romantic get away, this is the place. Fine dining with friends, this is the place for you. The steak is to die for and desserts are decadent. Durants offers a full bar with a robust wine list. Check it out, you'll be happy you did.
Old school steakhouse at its best.
If leather and red velvet is you, this is your place. It is old school in a good way. Food and service are tops. One of the few places you can get stone crab claws in PHX (call ahead to see if in season). Wine list is very good and moderately priced. Had stone crab claws and crab cake appetizers. Split the rib eye for dinner. The split dinner was prepared separately in the kitchen and came out perfect (they even allowed us to have different sides). Timing and flow was perfect. This place knows what it is doing and has been doing it for decades.
I have gone to Durant's for years -- since I moved to Arizona in 1989 -- and I have never been disappointed. It's one of the last few 'old Phoenix' spots, and I'd be heartbroken if they ever changed the red-flocked wallpaper, or stopped letting customers enter through the back entrance and walk through the kitchen.\n\nI took my sweetheart there for her birthday. We've been there before when we could afford it -- it's not a place you could go every week. The filets we had were perfectly cooked, the service was fine, and they remembered to bring out a little crème brulee sampler for my young lady with a candle on top. The bread they serve is also wonderful. In short -- Durant's is the place to go if you want a perfectly done steak and a look at '50s Phoenix. My favorite Phoenix restaurant. Everything else is a runner-up.
Excellent service, staff made us feel very welcome. Only downside were the prices - New York or higher
The service is exceptional. My wife had a minor issue with her entree, and the waitress and manager were very apologetic and took care of the issue immediately. The food was also amazing, and the ambience was out of an old gangster movie.
This place is a Phoenix tradition. You come here for meat, and fine meat it is. The entire science reminds you of a chop house in Chicago or New York; dimly lit, leather booths, and a bar with a mix of locals who've been coming here for years through a young business crowd. It is not inexpensive but definitely worth it for a special occasion. And happy hour is darn good - best martini in town.
Best Oysters Rockefeller I have had. Strip Steak was fantastic and cooked just right. Fun walking through the Kitchen to enter.
I'd heard SO much about this establishment, but when I dined there, it wasn't as I expected it, nor what the 'speak easy' era was all about. THEN............the noise level was so LOUD from everyone, that my guests and I could not even carry on a conversation. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. Something needs to be done with the acoustics inside that building. I will not, nor will I recommend Durant's to anyone and I will not return until I read a blog/review or hear of Durant's renovation to correct this problem. I don't mind spending the money for a great meal, but when you can't even talk with your date because of the noise level, even if the meal was FREE, it would't be worth it. Please-PLEASE Durant's, fix this issue ASAP. Then there was a 25 minute stretch where our server/buser never showed up to take more cocktail orders or clean away soiled dishes, empty cocktail glasses. Our entire bill was over $400. for the evening for 4 people. The noise level is simply not worth it to return. Sorry, get the problem fixed.
I love going to Durant's. An Icon of dining for 'old Arizona'!
Durant's is open for lunch! What a nice surprise - just never realized that I could enjoy the wonderful food and incredible service for lunch - and a martini doesn't hurt either. Always the best of everything in a historic setting.
Of course the food and the sevice were fantastic as always in my favorite dinning venue in the valley. I need to remember, however, when making reservation to request a table not in the bar. We had a group of six family members (first time to Durants for some) and they seated us in the oblong booth in the corner in the bar which was not a comforatable arrangement for both conversation and for seating. Other than that Durants is still my choice.
Great atmosphere, amazing steaks, fabulous service! They made our special occasion memorable and we had a great time.
Durant's was, as usual, very good and a 'go-to' place when a throwback evening of outstanding martinis and very good steaks is what's desired. \n\nThat said, the usually exceptional 'old school' service was a bit off when we last went: Our waiter, although competent, was a bit on the snarky side, criticizing the amount of pepper we elected for our steaks and salads and our reluctance to have a second round of cocktails. Otherwise, it was a totally enjoyable night at one of our favorite spots.
The steak was phenomenal, very well marinated and seasoned. 18oz was all I could hold down that night including all the other delicious appetizers but next time I am going for that 48oz porterhouse steak. Great Job Durant's!!!
We used to dine here every month, but prices have gotten so high that we're down to special occasions. The food is good but the value just is no longer there.
First time there and enjoyed it but it is pricey. Be prepared to pay a lot for a steak dinner.
Best local Gem
Great steakhouse from food to decor to service.....all great!
A special restaurant perfect for a special evening. Excellent food and service.
This is the place for martinis \nGreat food choices and is always consistent.
Wonderful meal. Top notch service.
My first time there, lovely throw back to the gangster times in Phoenix. You enter through the kitchen where everyone welcomes you and you smell their yummy food. Great traditional steak and seafood joint. We got on well with our waiter, Matt, what a sweetheart.
Excellent service and food!
Might want to clean the place once in a while and hang the Durants steak club signs like they weren't blind.
Amazing service! Excellent ambiance.
Had a reservation of our Anniversary dinner; have been here before. Food was fantastic tasting and the filets were melt in your mouth good. Was a little on the noisy side - especially for those of us who are starting to have hearing issues in noisy settings. Wait staff was attentive, yet unobtrusive, and very accommodating.
Being a Texan in the valley, I would rate the steak as above average. For the price listed, I expect something special and spectacular. Unfortunately, the meals were underwhelming. However, if you are looking for a place with history and decor, it is the place to be! The service is great!
Service was top notch as always and the food was also 5 star
We were excited to try such a long standing favorite as Durants for my husband's birthday. I made reservations and when we arrived we were seated right by the kitchen with my chair basically in the walkway. The baseball game was on and several people were dressed in jeans and football jerseys. Apparently, I was unaware of the ambiance. After requesting a different table I was offered to move over one table...still in the walkway and then finally offered a booth on the other side of the restaurant (the side without the TV). It was a little more of what I was hoping for. I was surprised to see veggies served with ranch when we first sat (the ranch tasted like bottled Hidden Valley), but I guess that's old school. The bread and the crab cake were delicious!! The steaks were good....not better or equal to any other steak house like Flemings, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, or Donavan's. The cheesecake was also very good and lemon drop martini was to be expected. Overall, we are glad we went, but we won't be returning.
This is the second year in a row I have made reservations for my friend's birthday and Durant's staff made our visit amazing. I highly recommend. Plus I have a Durant's dessert coin so it really made the whole meal great!
First time dining at Durant's. My wife and I loved the energy of the restaurant and the retro vibe. We definitely will be back. Very soon I hope. The service was great and the staff very helpful during our first time dining experience.
Food was great, atmosphere was great and our server was great. Cost is worth what you pay for. We thoroughly enjoyed it to celebrate our 5 year anniversary
We found our service to be a bit stuffy which I guess is a carry over from the past and also\nthat many of the wait staff has been there a long time. I can't say I care for the relish tray which is another hold out from the past. The prime rib was good but have definitely had better and it was requested for extra rare and it was medium rare. The liver and onions was ordered by one guest and that got rave reviews. Another dish was their seafood sampler which was excellent.\n\nCould definitely use some minor updating to make it a place I would want to frequent often.
Great time relaxing looking forward to our next time!
It's the best filet that I've ever eaten! I love Durant's.
Love this place; just can't afford it too often! If you're up for a great steak in an old Phoenix popular restaurant that has seen more deals done than any place in town, including the state Capitol, Durant's is it. Also has outstanding martinis, by the way, though don't talk politics to the bartender. :)
Very iconic restaurant--where else can you walk through the kitchen to enter the dining room?! \nThe amazing smell of the steaks on the kitchen grill will put you in the right frame of mind for this dining experience. Food and service is great.
My husband and I recently had an early dinner at Durant's prior to attending a concert in downtown Phoenix. I had been there before for lunch, but it was my husband's first visit and my first time to have dinner there. You park in the back and enter through the kitchen which is rather strange, but it gives you a chance to see the kitchen facilities and the cooking staff at work. The interior is on the dark side with big booths and red flocked wallpaper giving off a distinctive old time Vegas feel. The menu is primarily geared towards steak but there are other options available. Most entrees come with a salad and a side which is nice. My husband ordered a ribeye and I had the filet and shrimp combo. We shared the strawberry shortcake for dessert. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful. The food was very good, but not outstanding and perhaps not on a par with other steakhouses in the Phoenix metro area such as Mastro's.
Wonderful place to take your date, food is amazing. Spinach artichoke dip is awesome. Had a wonderful time getting away with my wife.
As always the service and food never fails. We came for our 1st anniversary and it's our go to place for any celebrations throughout the year. Durant's you never fail us in any way. Thanks for the memories you help make.
Definitely a special occasion favorite place! Lonnie is pretty much the best server ever, and the food is always prepared perfectly.
Durant's is a cozy restaurant hidden inside a large one! Our waiter always makes us feel special and we can sit and enjoy our time there without being rushed. And the food is consistently wonderful!
We enjoyed the food. Would have liked to know the history of the restaurant as we only found out after we left. The food was terrific though and the service was great.
Durants never fails to satisfy! We are often three generations of our family spending time together over dinner, ant there's more than enough menu choices to make all of us happy!\nIt's the best steak restaurant anywhere!!
We celebrated the passing of a dear friend who would have LOVED Durant', as we certainly did. The food was outstanding, the best calamari ever, prime rib melted in my mouth, and the drinks were top notch. Well worth the drive and the cost. Can't wait for the next occasion to return. Our server, Lonnie, was fantastic! Attentive and funny, yet very professional.
Durant's has been a phoenix landmark for decades and rightly so. It is a mad-men era steakhouse complete with deep booths, red flocked wallpaper, and a wait staff in the traditional black tie. \n\nThe wine list is extensive and the steaks are thick and flavorful. The desserts are decadent and and the food was just as good as it was the last time i went, 20 years ago.\n\nIn short, Durant's is the real deal. No posturing. No bullshit. You go there for drinks and for classic american steaks and seafood. Want mango chutney salsa? Go elsewhere. And pack in the back. The front door is the back door, right through the kitchen....and a portal back in time to a Phoenix classic.
Christmas lunch at Durant's is always a treat! These folks know how to do it right every time! From the kitchen staff who always greet you coming in to the attentive service. Absolutely fantastic!
The liver and onions were very good, and the main reason we selected Durants for dinner with our friend who like liver and onions. But the prime rib was not very flavorful and dry. The trout was good, but very expensive for trout. The prices make Durants not affordable for the quality.
Durant's never disappoints. If you want to impress- go here!
As usual very friendly service.
Patrick was our waiter who did an awesome job. The food was outstanding. Our reservation was immediate when we were seating. The overall experience for our meal was excellent.
Durant's is the classic old Phoenix Steak House. The traditional decor has been maintained and feels like a place my grandfather might have treated me to 50 years ago. The drinks were generous, wine pours pleasing, my steak was perfection & my wife's lamb chops mouth watering. All the soup, salad & sides were as they should be presented. Out waiter 'Greg' was a gentleman and served us in a old world formal style often lost in today's chic hot spots. We caught a pedal cab back to our hotel on this perfect fall evening in Phoenix.
It'd a 10 all the time\nGreat calf liver and steaks
great food and service. first time there, we will return
My husband and I had the best time and food! It was a recommendation for great food, service, and martinis! When we travel to Phoenix this will be our to go restaurant! Service, food and drinks were spectacular! Loved the entry through the kitchen! This is a must go to restaurant!
Went to this restaurant for a special occasion. When making the reservation I mentioned the special occasion and when I arrived I brought it to their attention again. Only problem is, that they didn't make it feel very special.
Wow! Cant afford it every day but so worth it to see the history inside and the service was impeccable, felt like royalty!
Delicious - everything it was recommended to be!
I have been going to Durants for years. \nLunches dinners celebrations etc and have never been dissapointed. \nIt's my favorite restaurant
Always a good experience. Hadn't been there in a while and they definitely raised their prices which was a little disappointing. But food, service and atmosphere are incredible!
To close to bar. Tables to close to one another. Not very private for a quiet conversation and dining
What a cool place! We felt like we were stepping back in time to a traditional supper club/steakhouse. We came here for our first wedding anniversary and loved it! The ambiance is great, the staff is outstanding, knowledgeable about food, wine and cocktails, and the food was delicious. The bartender was friendly and made a perfect Manhattan. We will definitely be back.
The best!...old school vibe with delicious carefully-prepared items and professional servers.
Durants has been a favorite place to take out of town guest for 20 years. They like going throsugh the kitchen and seeing the people making the food.\n\nGreat place.\n\nThank you \n\nNed Kelly
Birthday Celebration Dinner for aunt. (87 yrs yound) Her first experience for anything on this level. Thoroughly enjoyed it...
Definitely enjoyed our experience! The trout didn't have a lot of taste unfortunately but the sides and appetizers were great!
I loved it!! I loved the food, the ambiance, the service!! So fun!! My husband thought the prime rib was ok...he's picky with steak. It could have been juicyer...but so good. I brought the indulgence cake home and heated it up for a few seconds and it blew it out of the park in taste. You should heat it up!! So awesome!!! Loooooved this place. Great job!! The rib eye and filet were amazing!!
Everything about Durant's is awesome. Great service and food!
Durant's is our go to place for celebrating anniversaries and Birthdays. They never disappoint. This was no exception. The greeting, the service and especially the food has us deciding to return before we leave.
Durant's is a 1960's Vegas style restaurant, covered in red velvet wall paper with nice booths. Be ready for sticker shock because this place is expensive. A 6 ounce filet sandwich is $43. The quality is very good, and service is top- notch.
Great bartender and cocktails. Wonderful martini. Don't underestimate the fried shrimp!
I invited my family to join me at Durant's fora late lunch for my birthday. This is not the first time I have celebrated at Durant's and it won't be the last! Our server, Kevin, was knowledgeable and paced our meal perfectly. We started with appetizers: steamed clams, Durant's Debris (wonderful pieces of beef) and chicken livers. The three appetizers were plenty for our group of six and everyone enjoyed all of them. For main entrees, two of us had the t-bone(wonderful!), one had filet mignon, one had salmon, and two ordered salads; the chicken caesar and tuna salad. The portions are large and the food was tasty and delivered as ordered. Going to Durant's is like going back in time and the food is consistently great!
excellent, as usual. haven't been in for several years and took advantage of the opportunity when traveling home for a few days this week. The service was top flight; food is always good, and the cocktails were perfectly made. Love this place- if you haven't been there, you need to go.
Good, old school, steakhouse. Could use some menu updating. Couldn't make a reservation past 6:00, and was pretty peeved when they were at maybe at 40% capacity till we left around 10:00.
Best restaurant in Phoenix! Time and time again....a real treat!
Awesome historical throwback! The Oysters Rockefeller were the best I've ever had.
As usual, dining at Durant`s is one of the best experiences in Phoenix. The service, food and ambiance is among the finest. Our restaurant week dinners were superior and super delicious. The filet was just like butter and had an incredible flavor...it can`t be beat!\n\nWe love dining at Durant`s and always recommend it to others
A great steakhouse !!! Wonderful ambiance to go along with outstanding service. Durant's makes and the best martinis in phoenix !!
Excellent dining. Best prime rib We've had in ages!
It is easy to see why this is a Phoenix icon. From impeccable service to delectable food, Durant's has it all.
Wonderful to experience this restaurant again, since my last visit which was years ago. Now, that I relocated to Phoenix, I'll be dining there on a regular basis. Thanks for continuing the tradition.
A Phoenix classic. Everyone needs to go to Durant's once in a while. A steak house from the past but with good contemporary food. Great drinks too.
We went Friday night of restaurant week. My husband and I ordered the special menu prime rib which was served with salad, dessert and a glass of wine. The salad was a large handful of what looked like baby greens from a plastic bag with two cherry tomatoes. We requested the end cut cooked medium. The meat was cold, so we sent it back. The second time it was warm and served with hot, salty 'jus'. Not appealing at all. Will not be back
Excellent meal prior to a Phoenix Theater performance. Had an early reservation. Requested a quiet booth and we got the perfect spot. Prompt service, excellent food and a wonderful experience. Both the Chicken Marsala and the Chicken Piccatta were very tasty. Loved the homemade blue cheese dressing. The crime brûlée for dessert was amazing - three different flavored on the plate (chocolate, mixed berry and grand marnier). The tiramisu was too dry for my taste. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Will definitely return.
While not the Durants I remember it's still a restaurant to remember. Noisier than the old days and more tables crammed onto the floor.
We haven't been to Durants since we lived here in the 1990s. The food, service, etc. was wonderful! Prices have increased with inflation but that is part of the real world!!
We have been coming to Durants several times a year since 1977. It is always fabulous food, great professional service and such a treat to walk in through the kitchen.
Great place for dining. Everything was super.
Durante is always a must see every time I can. We go every year during restaurant week and it is always a wonderful piece of nostalgia and history. Great steak--great atmosphere--great martinis. Excellent all the way around. Try the shrimp cocktail and the bread--phenomenal.
My husband and I had a great experience. We will definitely return. Our lobster and prime rib were fixed perfectly. The bread with leeks and butter is very good...to die for. Our waiter was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Great place to take visitors. Don't forget to try the shrimp cocktail and the martinis, yummmm.
Took my lady here to celebrate her birthday.\nThe food was absolutely amazing and the service was impeccable.\nThis was the 2nd time I have been to Durant's and will definitely be back!!
This was our second time at Durant's. I know many people who enjoy the vintage ambience, but I don't really like it (especially the lighting). Service is wonderful and the servers are very personable. I ordered the 6 oz filet and my partner ordered the salmon. My filet was cooked appropriately (medium), but appeared dry and seemed previously frozen. The taste was okay - certainly not what I expect from a $40 steak. My partner's salmon was very good and the rest of our food was very good. There are too many other high-quality steakhouses to settle for Durant's.
We visited for AZ Restaurant Week because we've always wanted to experience Durant's but didn't know the price point. It's expensive by our standards but the food was outstanding. The Rustic bread with Leek Butter was beyond delicious. My Prime Rib was cooked to order and perfection. The fact it's a restaurant thrown back to the Rat Pack era really adds an exciting vibe with the soft red leather seating and darker, candlelit type ambience. Entering through the kitchen was a fun experience, although I was so worried I'm bump a server with a tray of dinners! Makes one feel special though, like an old school Hollywood Star or perhaps mobster getting special treatment entering through the back. All in all it's something we'd save for special occasions but when you want to splurge, you won't be disappointed !
Great food, service and ambiance. Favorite place for an old friend that I was meeting
Best Roast Prime Rib ever...cooked to perfection. The rest of the meal was very good, as well. Service was all is expect from a high end restaurant.
One of my favorite restaurants, love the setting, food is top notch, service is outstanding
The steak-house atmosphere reminded me of like restaurants in Chicago and Detroit. Good food, good service. However, a cup of ketchup on a plate with a perfect steak was a bit unnerving. Not acceptable.
Excellent service, splendid food, and a great location. Durant's is where the people you love want to eat.
We loved it. Waitstaff were both extremely friendly and VERY accommodating.. old style nice, as in refolding your napkin when you got up from the table, checking in with you several times during the meal, refilling water.. a lost art in many places. We will definitely repeat! We were there on Restaurant week and that was an awesome value!
Had lunch with my daughter. This is a great establishment. Most business transactions happened here in the 60's and 70's. They continue now. Large comfortable red booths. An extensive menu with the quality of a fine dining experience. Enter through the kitchen to experience the old fashion feel. Reservation often required during lunch. I have eaten there for over forty years and they never disappoint . The soup du jour was excellent. I also ordered the French dip with fries and it was good. The service has always been top notch. An excellent ambience for business lunch. Desserts looked wonderful so I tried the strawberry shortcake. One of the best that I have ever had. Shared by two and it was plenty. Even for someone who doesn't split desserts as a rule. Enjoy!!
Tried it during restaurant week so the value was good. Prime rib was excellent
Our waiter was outstanding. I loved everything he recommended.
I haven't been here in 10 years. I grew up eating here for 30 years. Food was just as good as it always was. I had the scallops and they are still some of the biggest and best I've had anywhere.
Great restaurant for a celebration. We go before Christmas every year with close friends and feel like the holiday as actually started.
This was my second time to Durant's, both times attending a trade show in Phoenix. The first time was several years ago for a customer dinner of 30 people. This time I took several employees and a vendor to dinner there, and nothing has changed in overall service and quality of food. I highly recommend it.
Went for AZRestaurant Week F'15. Served ice cubes on a plate for the first time ever (along with craft services veggie slices and ranch. is this a thing?) The leek butter bread that followed was blisteringly good. Really really good. We had the prime rib as well as the T-Bone and both were... not good. Steak was seasoned well but tough as leather while the pr was tender but didn't taste like anything. Were banking on dessert to save things and got pecan pie which was just sugar-bomb goop and tiramisu which had solid flavor but an unpleasant grainy texture. Service was solid. Will not return.
Excellent - was surprised they did not have rare prime rib at 6:30 - may have been a Monday thing.
OLD WORLD STYLE, SOME MIGHT THINK DATED. THE FOOD IS CLASSIC AND WELL PREPARED. SERVICE IS GREAT WITH STRONG DESIRE TO PLEASE. NOT MANY RESTAURANTS OF THIS CALIBER IN THIS LOCATION CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN PHOENIX.
I had always heard Durants was great for dining. I was not disappointed, I made reservations and I was not able to get my 'time slot' so I called and they graciously adjusted my reservations with no problems. We walked in and were immediately seated, loved walking through the kitchen, it provided a sense of where your food was coming from and who was making it, just that little touch of personable service I felt like we received throughout our dining experience. \nWe had a group lunch and our portions were HUGE, but more importantly lunch was hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. \n\nTheir service was impeccable and timely, before we could even ask they were refilling our beverages, checking in but they immediately left us back to our lunch and conversation. \n\nI'm coming back for dinner.
Don't be put off by the pink cinder block building nor the fact that you enter through the kitchen. That's all part of what makes Durant's unique. Our big tip is to definitely order the Oysters Rockefeller. Best we've had. Salad is ho hum, steak and lamb outstanding.
Durant's is our go-to dining place for special occasions. Lonny was outstanding as our waiter and the food was extra delicious. Probably our best meal yet. Since we went so early, it wasn't crowded so a delight not trying to squeeze in between tables. It was just awesome.
We were at Durant's because we had been given a gift certificate. And we were happy to go for a nice evening out. Had been there for lunch but never dinner. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. It was a little noisy because we were seated near the bar, but overall a great dinner out.
THANK YOU for making my 60th Birthday dinner a very SPECIAL one! ð
Cool, old-school place. When you pull up, don't be surprised that it looks pretty run down. Entering through the kitchen area will give you a good view of the ambience. Waiter was excellent, food was excellent, noise level was excellent, prices were high, in my opinion.
Food was good, not great. I thought it was a bit pricey for wha t it was. It is an old-fashioned steak house, nothing more, nothing less. I assume this place was 'The Place' 20 or 30 years ago. Doesn't match up well with the steak house chains such as Capital Grille, Shula's, Ruth Chris, etc.
Oysters Rockefeller - a new and simply delicious treat. Ribeye - seared on the outside; medium on the inside with just a smattering of blue cheese to enhance it. Great Manhattan; lovely zin. Good company; great service. Thanks
Returned for the first time in several year. I was hoping to treat my wife and adult children to an outstanding meal to celebrate an ASU graduation. Durant's charges top $ and you should expect the same. Unfortunately they served me a Delmonico (bone in NY Strip) that was a lousy cut of meat (plenty of 'sinew'/'grisl' to cut around). The good news is the rest of the food including the filets at the table were good....but I hate to waste $60+ on a steak. The service seemed a step behind on a busy Saturday night and they didn't even acknowledge our occasion even though it was mentioned in the reservation. Next time I'm looking for an outstanding steak I will be checking out the competition.
They've crowded so many tables into the main dining room that the waiters can barely squeeze between and you can't carry on a conversation with a dining partner. I will never return unless I can be assured a booth, preferably in the back room.
Our favorite place when visiting Phoenix. Everything about this restaurant is good. Coming through the back door through the kitchen is always fun. Food is always excellent.\nDecor is very pretty.
Incredible steaks, service, and a divine mushroom side.
Evan, our waiter was very charming and accommodating. The food is consistently excellent and so is the service, however, today Evan realized that our previous waiters never mentioned bringing garlic bread which we never wanted. He substituted a vegetable plate which made this visit our most enjoyable yet. It eliminated our guilt over wasting garlic bread on every previous visit. Letting the client know what's coming saved waste and provided us with a very pleasant surprise. Thanks Evan!!!
Big disappointment \nHad been many times before when it was very good \nNo more
had a great meal, great drinks!! This place has been around for over 60 years, great history.
We wanted to take family from out of town to experience a little bit of Phoenix history after the Barrett Jackson. Our reservations were fairly early on a Sunday and the look of the parking lot made me think we made them too early but when we walked in, what a surprise, the place was hopping. This is a place of historic, old school charm and ambiance. We were seated immediately but it did take a while for someone to take our drink order. Once that was achieved is was a quite a bit longer for service. Like I said the place was hopping. However, once we did get our meals....well the 8oz filet was definitely worth the wait so much so I wish I would have ordered the 22oz ribeye that my husband got!. He said his was delicious too! We didn't have room for dessert so we are planning on going back and giving that a try next time. The wine list was impressive and the selections I had did not disappoint. \nWould recommend this place for a very special occasion. The only shortfall, although our server was friendly, my service expectations didn't match the prices of this establishment.
We've been going to Durant's for years for lunch, dinner or amazing cocktails by their pro bartenders. We love the history in this restaurant and spend many special occasions celebrating here.
Due to restaurant week, the place was packed to the hilt with diners. I have always had great experience at this place but tonight was an exception to the norm. I believe management dropped the ball on this one and did not foresee the turnout so waitstaff was lacking. Our orders were mixed up as well as the wrong items coming out from what we had ordered. Our waiter seemed very stressed and hurried. The one thing that was outstanding was the bread table side. Oh my! Delicious. I could have just ordered some wine and filled up on the bread. Garlicky with spices and dripping in olive oil. So yummy! Would definitely go back but not during restaurant week unfortunately!
Amazing as always
I have dined at Durants on Many Occassions. The steaks are always prepared to order and the ambiance reminds us of a 1950s supper club. Red leather booths and old style service. Excellent and Highly Recommended!
We love the old style decor and atmosphere. We also like coming thru the kitchen to see all the action. The staff is very friendly and seems to enjoy seeing us in the kitchen. They have a huge bar and good ample drinks We like to finish our drinks before ordering dinner and our waitress was unobtrusive and didn't rush us. The bonein ribeye is the best I have had anywhere. I like the Caeser Salad and the baked potato to compliment the entre.
Impeccable service..outstanding food! Waiter moved us because of very loud raucous behavior across from us. Wonderful experience for my friend as it was a first visit. We will be back!
I took my wife for her 55th Birthday. They are hitting on all cylinders when it comes to customer satisfaction and food preparation. We both had steaks that were prepared perfectly. My wife is a hard one to please when it comes to her filet. She likes it medium well and not butterflied, it was perfect for her. The old adage, ' you get what you pay for', holds true in this establishment. I will return.
Our server Patrick was amazing, amazing meal, great experience. Definitely a must and will return every time I'm in Phoenix
Durants is a local institution. However, their prices are becoming prohibitive.\nTheir business seems not to suffer.
This was an excellent choice. We go here every year for birthdays or anniversaries and always enjoy ourselves.\n\nI highly recommend Durants to anyone looking to enjoy themselves in an outstanding establishment with great ambiance and decor.
It was ok. Meat was overcooked and that's bad for a restaurant specializing in steaks!
Durant's is by far my favorite Steak House period! I have never had a bad meal and never had anything less than exceptional service. I bring both family and friends here when they come from out of town and they are always blown away. This visit we had Rebecca as our server, and she was amazing. My wife and I were there with our two teenage daughters and Rebecca made everyone feel welcome. Both of my daughters cannot wait to return (and my wife and I will be with them!).
We have loved Durants for years. Ambiance, service and food, in that order. Starting to need a dress code, though. Not a place for tees or cut-offs.
I was for years a fan but the quality has gone way diwn ! The pricey steaks have strange sinewy parts / the potatoes are dry / there is no attention to quality or preparation ? Sad to see this wonderful historical place fall below!!!!!!!
An institution in Phoenix! Enter through the kitchen in the back - it's more fun that way :) You can't go wrong with any steak, and the garlic mashed potatoes are to die for.
Durant's is a bit expensive, although, no more so than other restaurants of the same caliber. At Durant's, they actually serve you a generous portion of fine quality food. You will not leave hungry. The steaks are of the highest quality, and they are expertly prepared.\nOur server was very professional, pleasant and helpful. \nThe only negative was the amount of time it took for our meals to arrive. I have eaten at Durant's on several occasions in the past, and it didn't take very long for our orders to arrive. I suspect that we were probably waiting for our baked potatoes to finish baking.\nDurant's is a lively place, thus, it can be noisy.
Durant's is a throw back in time ,from the entrance through the kitchen, to the dimly lit bar where one could envision mob bosses sitting in a corner both making deals over a steak dinner and Martinis. Mostly booth seating allows for a good view for what's going on in the restaurant.
The food was incredible. We had the oysters and ceviche - everything was amazing. The valet service is also a nice touch.
The pot roast served on Thursday's only is delicious!!
Durant's is a classic restaurant in every sense. The ambience evokes a by-gone era; the food is well-prepared and elegantly served; the menu is creative, but traditional; the wine list is outstanding; the bar is a treasure; the staff are all welcoming and professional.
Champagne cocktails the best ever!!..prime rib and filet delicious!!..Lonnie our waiter was outstanding!?
Love the ambience of the place, been coming here over 30 yrs. Special occasion dinner. Service was timely. Steaks were perfectly done. I mentioned to the waiter my scallops were gritty, he blamed it on the grill. He did not offer to bring out another order and did not take them off the bill. For $16 for 3 scallops, I feel he should have done one or the other. Overall a nice evening.
As always, everything was perfect!
We love Durant's and the local vibe it provides to our community!
Food was very good. We had the prime rib. Excellent.
Choices choices choices! The steaks are all outstanding and the service is ready so prepare and focus on what you want!
Loved the food and the service. Went for the first time for restaurant week, but am a native. Not sure why I waited so long?? It is a true gem. If you haven't gone there, get there now. It is true fine dining.
love Durant's. It's special and unique, old money feel. Love entering and leaving through the kitchen, no place like it. Food is amazing every time!!!! Even the simple salad, the balsamic is just so perfect. Every bite of everything is perfect. I always have the filet mignon.
Fabulous restaurant ! Great food and excellent service.
We went to Durants for my Mothers 93rd birthday. They give us a great table ( the one we usually have). We went early so it wasn't noisy. Everyone was lovely to my Mother. LOVE the prime rib.
One crab cake for $26 is ridiculous ... My Caesar salad had much too much mayonnaise... Very disappointing
I have been looking forward to trying Durant's for some time! I have to say I was a little disappointed. We all ordered the rib eye, the flavor was very good but the cuts of meat were a little too fatty for my liking. Great service, my favorite thing was the amazing bread served with dinner.
Enjoyed a mutual birthday and anniversary dinner with long time friends at Durant'ts. We have been to Durant's previously and wanted our friends to enjoy a wonderful birthday dinner. The service was great, food even better, and will definitely be back!
Durants he bee around for 50+ years. I took my Mother for Mothers Day dinner there this year and we had her 92nd birthday dinner there last year. We probably eat at Durants at least twice a year. The prime rib is delicious.
A step back in time. Love Durant's and the reputation it has. Entering through the kitchen reminds me of some of my favorite local spots in Chicago. Service was impeccable and there was never a rush through our meal courses. Even the other customers dining were friendly from table to table. I was disappointed because they were out of oysters and I had my mouth set on them, but the large shrimp and chicken livers definitely satisfied me. Truly enjoyable and I will be visiting again very soon.
Durant's is a landmark in Phoenix which lives up to it's history. The ambience is that of a lower light but pretty (gorgeous floral arrangements), 1960's red-leather-booth, 'rat pack' sort of place with the best service and the best execution of the type of food it serves. It's not for 'foodies' or food adventurists, but if you want a great cut of beef superbly prepared along with excellent service in a romantic environment this is your place. Word to the wise, this is not an inexpensive dinner out for most people, but for special occasions it's a great experience at a Valley treasure. We've never had a bad time here in 30 years!
WANT THAT 'SPECIAL' EVENT IN YOUR LIFE TO BE MORE MEMORABLE,T HEN THIS LONG TIME, WELL ESTABLISHED, FAMOUS PHOENIX LOCATION IS THE PLACE TO BE. \nEXCELLENT IN SERVICE, FOOD QUALITY AND QUANTITY.. ON THE PRICEY SIDE, BUT, THE MEAL\nWILL BE MEMORABLE ENOUGH TO MAKE UP FOR THAT!
This is an old Phoenix gem...will never disappoint you...everything is prepared perfectly.
This was our first visit to Durant's since moving to Arizona.... have read about it, had others recommend - we decided to try it before the Adele concert since we would be in the area... all in all it was just okay / good - food was good not fantastic... we knew it had an old school vibe / decor going in so that was fine... our server, while decent and did an okay job of explaining the menu items etc. she was sort of abrupt... I thought I had read that Durants was known for specialty cocktails and when I asked she just looked blankly at me... and said once again here is our wine list... I was not in the mood for wine (although ultimately that is what I ordered) I asked how are the margarita's... she said we are not a mexican restaurant, which I was well aware of... I sort of felt it was belittling.... overall a decent meal but for the price was not a super fantastic place that I would tell others to try.... again nothing terrible but could have had the same experience at an Outback.... was a little disappointing that it was not memorable after everything I have read......
A very vibrant scene and great food to go with it. You can tell why they've been around for as long as they have. My steak was AMAZING and the deserts as well. My only complaint is that the place is really noisy. At times, I couldnt hear the person I was with sitting right next to me. I think it's likely expected, since the line of people never ended.
Never had a bad meal there.
Pricey but good
Cozy, old school charm with great food and attention to detail. Great couples night out!
Excellent food... Superb service...great place
It's an old standard, and it's still my favorite steak restaurant!
Great old time Phoenix restaurant. Us baby boomers would remember it as the kind of place our parents would have taken us once a year or so, and we dressed up for it. Steaks done to perfection. I have never been disappointed here. Wonderful, attentive service.
Durant's food is consistently good and the service is excellent.
Awesome as Always! Amazing food, great place for any occasion. Been going here for year and love it! Thanks again!
As a foodie and carnivore we seek out the best places to dine in Phoenix-land area nearly every weekend. Durrants has been on my radar for quite some time as it is featured as a prime steakhouse. I was very pleased with the look and feel of the restaurant, has that nostalgic big city ambiance and was excited to see what was offered. After being greeted by our very friendly waiter I asked what steaks were aged, much to my surprise...NONE! I opted for a different cut that I normally go for, the T-bone. Upon arrival I received a cold plate, steak was pale and thin, hardly any flavor, paired with cold garlic mashed potatoes. I'm not the kind of patron to return food, I will just never come back. \n\nIn short Durrants presents like a big city prime steakhouse, when I could have had a better meal at outback or the roadhouse for half the cost.
My first visit to Durant's was in 1977 and, like a fine wine, it has improved with age. I never visit Phoenix without at least one meal at Durant's. Although the dining room can be a bit loud and busy, especially during lunch, the bar area is always a quiet spot perfect for a private conversation during lunch. The food is exquisite. The service has always been superb. And, the ambiance reminds me of the Prime Rib in Washington, DC. Actually I should reverse that because I went to Durant's before I even knew the Prime Rib existed. If you like good food, quality service and ambiance, Durant's is a great place.
As always Durants is the most perfect place to spend our anniversary. The atmosphere, the service and the food are always top notch and you just cant get that anywhere else! Durants has been our favorite for years and no matter how far away we move, we always come back to Durants.
The meals at our table included Prime Rib, Filet and Salmon and everyone was happy with their meal. Service on a very busy night was good and the tiramisu was excellent!
Never disappoints. Good service. New deserts were a nice surprise.
After all these years. And thats a good thing. At least for us natives. Best prime rib in town. Service was wonderful. The vibe is still good there even it the decor is totally retro. Great trip down memory lane for all the good time there with family and friends.
The food and service was amazing! The meal comes with a high price tag but well worth it for the experience.
Great service, great atmosphere, great food. Loved it! Great setting for any occasion!
The best reliable consistent restaurant in town. You get what you pay for!!!!!!
We were celebrating my birthday and this one my top choice for a restaurant for this occasion. It was pretty noisy when we got there at 7 but it quieted down as two large groups left shortly after. I was freezing from the air conditioning but our wonderful server offered to move us to a different table but the receptionist went into the coat room and offered me a jacket or a shawl. The shawl was perfect! I really appreciated this extra attention to detail! The food? As always, it was outstanding!!
Service food can never be improved on\nAlways fun to run into friends\nTHANKS for keeping this PHOENIX GEM operating\nwhen so many of the old places have closed
Wife had been out of town for two weeks not a better way to welcome her home than Table 26 at Durants.
Years of planning meeting at Durant's have NEVER been a a Negetive
A day with out Durant's Scrimp Cocktails is just not a complete day
Great steaks as usual, pricey but worth it. We love that the decor hasn't changed since our first visit in 1965.
We had a memorable night from the very beginning as we entered through the kitchen, very reminiscent of the scene from Goodfellas almost half expecting to encounter Bobby Vinton. The entire staff was very friendly and accommodating not just catering to, but anticipating our every need. The bread that was brought out was so delicious that I had to remind myself of the entree to come. My date had the fillet surf and turf, while I went with the ribeye, both cooked to melt in your mouth perfection. I've had the good fortune of dining at Durant's many times over the years and they never fail to impress
Definitely did not meet our expectations at all. Being rated one of the best steakhouses in town it certainly is not. Arrived to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were escorted to the table at the kitchen door. . We asked to be moved and were put into the smaller room and it was so so. The hostess and her assistant were less than approachable, friendly etc. which you would have expected. The young guy who took us to the various tables didn't have a clue in how a new potential customer was. We almost left. I guess that their regular customers are way more important than potential new customers and that is certainly how we felt from the hostess due to her saying a number of times that is reserved that is reserved for our regulars. We decided to stay and had some of the best oyster rockefellers ever but that was the highlight. Prime Rib was good. Asked for an end cut medium rare and the waiter Kevin confirmed with the chef that they had this. Came out medium. He went to double check meanwhile carrying the plate with him and came back and said no medium rare and so we decided on a inside cut to get the medium rare. After all this the potato was cold. Second entree was strip steak and it was horrid. Thin asked for medium rare and it was medium to even medium well. Only ate 1/2. At this point both my wife and myself were over it and no one even seemed concerned. Dessert came and then we left. Have no plans to return and as the saying goes - a customer who has a negative experience tells at minimum 9 persons and that has already been exceeded.
Remains an excellent nostalgic part of Phoenix. Always been good food, service and ambiance. My office was close and I took many business clients over the years. Always rave reviews.....
Old school, classic steakhouse. Great food and service. I l Ike the modern vibe of Mastt's but Dutant's steaks may be the best ever. With a visit.
As always a very productive meeting makes the time spent Special relaxing and waiting for the next time!
Food was great, waiter was exceptional. An overall experience.
Great place to celebrate special occasions, making reservations makes it nice to walk right in. A bit noisy at times, but the food is awesome!!
One of the few times that the service was poor. The waitress could have cared less about serving us. Lunch was not very busy so that was not the reason.
The waiter and bus staff was perfect. Its nice to appreciate some fine dining and service every once in a while.
Terrific as always. Service was outstanding. Recommended for those wanting a great dining experience.
Great Phoenix ICON! Special occasion: went before & after film 'Durant's Never Closes'.\nFirst place I was taken to eat when I moved to Phoenix; and I take my Phoenix visitors there.\nFood is great and service is always impeccable with a folksy charm. Price is ridiculous, but it's that kind of place!
Perfect romantic ambience. The oysters rockafeller are a must! The service was also very attentive and polite. We were overall very impressed!
Excellent in every way - the trout is my favorite and it was delicious tonight! My husband had the scallops which were also perfectly prepared. Thank you for honoring our request for a booth by the bar - we had a great time
My Family has enjoyed Durant's for over 30 years, I picked Durant's because of their great ambience, 5 star service, Prime steaks and the steamed clams are the best I have ever had in my life!. and The Bread is to die for. I try to always celebrate my Birthday at Durant's and they were so lovely to give our table of 4 dessert on them. I love this place!
Durant's was highly recommended by my 93 year old Great-Aunt Fran who had been dining here since the 70's when she moved to Phoenix from Chicago. She was recently moved back to Chicago by her children due to severe dementia. Even in her current state, she raves about Durant's and asks everyone who visits her (in Chicago) to take her there. \n\nMy husband and I recently moved to the Phoenix area and my parents visited us over their 35th anniversary. We took up Fran's recommendation and celebrated at Durant's. We were NOT a bit disappointed. The service, wine list, quality of meat, food and atmosphere was incredible. Fran is right, this is the place to go and we will definitely be back. Thank you for making my parents' day so special!
Another year and another birthday celebration. Durant's was the 'big present' and as always, exceeded all expectations. The food was superb, the service impeccable and the ambiance was purely Durant's. Who could ask for anything more - in my humble opinion?
Excellent service and food in this classic restaurant.
Wait staff was very attentive. Very expensive $$$.... Food was overpriced so bring your credit card! There are plenty of other restaurants to go to get great food for half the price. It was good, not great. We tried the oysters and shrimp bisque. Both were good. I tried the filet mignon and my husband had the prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes just so so. Both meat dishes cooked to perfection. It's definitely an establishment with longevity and a place worth trying. I think that's what you pay for. The ambiance is different than any other restaurant in town. Definitely worth a try. Would like to go back to try the lunch menu. It was fun going through the kitchen and upon departure, everyone was attentive.
I have been enjoying Durant's for 60 years. My wife and son took me for a birthday dinner. The food and service were great, but prices keep going up. I had a lobster tail - good but almost $80.00. I took a box home for a good second dinner. The birthday strawberry shortcake was enjoyed.
The quality of every single ingredient is top notch at this place. When you get blue cheese dressing it is made from scratch with a strong great tasting cheese. Same with the horseradish. I love that they use good quality ingredients! It is a classic steak house with great food and service. We just moved here from DC and plan on making this place a regular place to eat because we loved it!
Our waiter was not very friendly at first and did not introduce himself. Later he was more engaging and overall the service was fine.
Expensive but worth it, excellent service and food.
I PICKED DURANTS FOR DINNER BECAUSE IT WAS MY WIFES B-DAY . IT WAS GREAT AS ALWAYS AND WE WILL ALWAYS USE DURANTS FOR OUR SPECIAL OCASSIONS
Really nice in there the food was great I would go back
Noisy in main dining room, so loud we had to raise voices to be heard by server and each other.\nThank goodness, no music, just a lot to loud conversation. I had just seen the movie, : Durants Never Closes, so I thought there would be somewhere for intimate conversation. Not So!\n\nServer was not friendly, never introduced himself, so I do not know his name. We were there almost 2 hours, 6 15pm- to 8pm, on a Monday night and watched several other diners get their food and drinks as we waited for ours. Extremely frustrating! Could not wait to leave, so we skipped dessert. I grew up in Phoenix and know the ambiance and legend of Durants. We even have the wooden nickels for free dessert. But it will be hard to get my husband back there again. The food was great, by the way, but lots of restaurants have great food, we came for the atmosphere. That was a disappointment..
Our table was ready for us when we arrived. The service was outstanding. Food was incredible. It was a wonderful dining experience, and we would definitely recommend Durant's to anyone looking for a fabulous meal at a classic steakhouse.
The restaurant was very nice...traditional steakhouse with great service. Unfortunately a large table near us got very loud which put a damper on the end of our meal. The waitress was very apologetic and offered to move us
THE PLACE IS GREAT FOR BEEF ENTREES...THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO COOK THEM. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THERE AND DURANT'S ALWAYS WANTS TO SEAT US IN THE BAR AREA. OTHER AREAS ARE OPEN AND I WONDER IF IT IS BECAUSE WE ARE TWO LADIES BEING SEATED. I HOPE NOT.
Very good food. My Ribeye cookedperfectly. Other entrees were great.
Love the feel of this place. We were there for the 65th anniversary of the place. We felt like we were back in time to the era of the rat pack. Great staff, great food.
Durant's never fails to be outstanding...the wait staff, the service, the ambiance, the food and the bar. The entering through the kitchen and being welcomed by the staff is like a step back in time to an old fashioned 5 star dining experience. Our favorite!
My family loves going to Durants. It is a Phoenix landmark and my family has been going there almost since it opened 60 years ago. Just to give some insight, my brother-in-law's parents-in-law had their first date here. It also happens to be right up the road from one of my Company's offices, so we go there when ever we can. The shrimp cocktail is a must. Although this is a fairly basic appetizer, the shrimp at Durants are so fresh, firm, and delicious, they are better than shrimp I get anywhere else. Also, if you go for lunch on a Friday a must is the fish and chips daily special. They run out of it sometimes so I try to go early to ensure I can get it. The fish is cod and the batter and tarter sauce are fabulous. The chips are thinly sliced potatoes that are deep fried and are so yummy. I could go on and on, but I will leave it at that. As you can tell, I highly recommend Durants.
Durants is always special and Sunday was not exception. Leftover prime rib was delicious the next day.
This is an old school steakhouse, right down to the red velvet walls and leather booths. Like stepping back in time to the 1950s. My Delmonico steak was fantastic. Pricey, but worth it.
We went for a dinner at 6:00 pm. Restaurant was not crowded at that time. Our service was slow. We ordered prime rib medium rare end cut for one and center cut for the other. The prime rib came out medium well done. The end cut was rubbery. It had all the markings of meat left over from lunch and reheated and served for dinner. We complained and returned the end cut and ordered a steak for that person. I ate the middle cut as is. We were offered a free dessert but declined the offer. I would not recommend this restaurant based on the service and quality of the prime rib.
Durant's is one of our favorite restaurants that we go to every time we are in town, and this visit was fantastic. I have been on an old fashion kick the last few months and the old fashions at Durant's were by far the best I have ever had. We will definitely go back to Durant's the next time we are in town!
Very cool place with an old school classic steak house feel. It's going to be a pricey meal, but it's worth it. I loved that they allow you to walk through the kitchen on the way to and from the parking lot.
Durants never disappoints. Steaks are always great and the Martinis plentiful. Ambiance is that of a by-gone day. Just tried the calves liver with onion and bacon as an appetizer portion. One word - fantastic! Always a must whenever I visit PHX.
Excellent well prepared dishes, a great dining experience not replicated in the multiple franchises that try to imitate the real thing.
Very knowledgeable. Great suggestions. We will go to Durant's again.
It is really hard to find a restaurant that maintains the 'old' standards of service and product quality. A leisurely meal of fine food with really professional wait staff is a rare treat. But, you will find such a treat at Durant's. Celebrating its 65th year in business it hasn't lost a step on all the new places because it continues to do business the traditional way, with attention to detail at every step of the process. What a joy! We'll be back.
Durant's has earned a reputation for great food, an outstanding wine list and professional service based on consistently delivering all of those things. It is a community icon, a destination restaurant which deserves to be on everyone's Top 10 Best Restaurants list.
A Phoenix staple, and always excellent food and service. I always enjoy Durant's.
The restaurant itself is an experience. However, my husband ordered the Tbone. It was a $50 item. It was very thin - not a good cut. We shared the baked potato and was surprised there was enough inside to find - again, very small potato. Our friend ordered the prime rib which he said was quite good. Would have to rethink a return and would definitely order differently.
Less than impressed.\nFirst, sat us at a booth that was small for 4 average people despite the slowness of business that night.\nWaiter gave us the impression we were holding him up from something. Despite having ample time to talk with others. He just cut us off at times.\nFood was not inspiring. Short on taste, not the best prepared.\n\nFor a birthday dinner, not good at all, at all.\n\nWe have one prior visit about 2 years ago was very good; it is why we went back. Won't be going again, there are many other places; it is not worth the risk of another bad experience.
Always the best choice for our celebrations. The food, service and ambiance are all so consistently amazing.
Amazing old-school ambiance. Fantastic food. A bit pricey ($50-70/person with tax & tip, before alcohol), but worth it.
Located right on the Light rail path and Center of Phoenix\nPlace is old school ..and older crowd w $$ but really cool and friendly..\nImpress a date or your In-laws on how sophisticated you really are \nGo eat here at least once and then go to the Theater or catch a Play \nDate night\nWe started off with Blue point Oysters 1/2 dox @ $19 (loved them but pricy)..but we know why I got them..lol\nThe Prime Rib is the bomb they say.. not a Fan (not a hater but too fatty for me..)\nI had the 16oz @ $50 T-Bone (awesome / trimmed correctly) w X-dirty Martini (yum)\nmy gal had the $35 Salmon + 2 Wine (Awesome too!).. \nShared broccolini .. good portion\nexpect to spent ~ $175 + tip
I had not been to Durant's for a few years and was looking forward to it again. It is costly to eat there so I do not go often. When I go to an expensive place like this I expect ambiance, a leisurely dinner and great food. I was disappointed on this visit because it was VERY crowded. They have these beautiful old red leather booths, but now they have a LOT of tables crammed in everywhere. I mean everywhere! I was very close to hitting my neighbor with my elbow all night. The service was also too fast for me. As I said when I drop this kind of dough I expect a slow relaxing experience. The appetizers came right after we ordered them. The salads came just as we finished our apps and the main dish right after we finished our salad. There was no time to rest and enjoy what we just finished. I suppose they want to turn the MANY tables quickly so they can make more money. The steaks were great and the waiter was good as well. I will not be returning anytime soon. Actually I think I might take Durant's off of my special occasion dinner places to go list.
Remember in the movies when the VIP's had a special entrance. Currants is that place. The steaks are top tier. The service is outstanding. The bar has everything as expected. As a foodie eating out 21 meals a week... When I need to impress This will make the short list!
I ordered a ribeye and it was tough, chewy and grainy. I think I've sent back two meals in my entire multiple decades of life, but considering the ridiculously high price, I did not want to pay $65 (if I remember correctly) for such an inferior piece of beef, which did not even resemble a ribeye visually. There was no marbling. It looked like it had been pre- frozen. Such a disappointment, especially since I'd heard that this restaurant was supposed to be great. The prime rib that I ordered to replace it was average -- no better or worse than any restaurant that serves a decent prime rib. And we (there were 4 of us dining together) did not appreciate that, despite the restaurant was barely 20% full, the first table where they sat us was the most undesirable table in the place -- a cold air vent was constantly blasting us from right above. Our jackets were not even enough to protect us from the frigid air. When we asked if we could move because of the vent, we were accommodated immediately. Our new table did not have a vent over it and we were very comfortable. I gave 'service' the 'outstanding' rating, because the staff corrected the table and inferior steak problems without a second thought and were very gracious. But why would a restaurant with such a fine reputation try to seat people at the worst table when the restaurant is practically empty, and why would they try to pass such such a poor excuse for a ribeye to a customer? Maybe they try to save the best tables and best cuts for 'regulars'? But there's not way we'll become 'regulars' after that experience. We will not return to Durant's.
We live in Portland Oregon and eat at Durant's each time we visit Phoenix. The steaks are amazing. We love the atmosphere and the wonderful service we receive. We have our dessert chips now......so free dessert each time we visit Durant's!
Perfect in every way....food is never a disappointment! The shrimp bisque to die for-
I love this old time institution that transports you in time & place. You feel as though you might be in New York or Chicago when you dine at this great old landmark. The food is high quality, best steak, best minestrone soup I've ever had, fresh salads & awesome sides. Old school style makes you want to linger & pretend you're in another era.
Durant's strength is in their experienced staff who are polite and helpful at all times. \nThe bar area is great for meeting up with friends.
There were 4 of us celebrating my birthday. Our server was very attentive in the beginning but as the night went on he seemed to forgot us occasionally where we had to flag him down. The food was wonderful. The prime rib was fabulous! Unknown to us a friend had called the restaurant to buy a bottle of wine for us. We paid and left the restaurant and on the way home our friend called to find out how everything was. During the conversation we discovered that the wine was to be free and also we were to be told so it was a present for me. Long story short Durant's call my friend and took the payment off and paid for the wine themselves and apologized about the error. I'm impressed they went the extra mile to make it right. We would return again and enjoy the great food.
Haven't been to Durant's for a few years however, the food is still wonderful as it was several years ago - no change! Onions rings are the best in the valley, Steaks cooked to perfection, and the service is fabulous! Although its a 45 minute drive, its worth it! Glad some things just don't change!
Usually my favorite. This time the trout was way overcooked and dry. They took it off the bill. Great service as always
We always go for martinis and the prime rib. Excellent. This restaurant still lives up to its 40 year reputation. It's a blast from the past totally relevant in today's market. Not for hip and wanna be seen crowd.
The reputation of Durant's for being at the center of action was in evidence last Thursday. Our daughter requested to have dinner at Durant's. We were glad she had a great experience for her birthday and devoured the Ribeye steak. Durant's was the chosen spot due to the release of the movie about the fabled eatery. The red wallpaper to the relish plate was there as were a fairly large influx of diners this evening. The waiter were up to the challenge of the night as they were scurrying from 6pm on. The Shrimp Cocktail was almost a meal unto itself. If you have never been to the Big D, its a must on a Foodie's Bucket list.
After many years in PHX I finally went there. It was like stepping back in time. I almost expected to see Don Draper sitting at the bar. Best Manhattan I have ever had. Excellent food and great service.
Always a wonderful experience...both business and personal.
Have eaten at Durant's a number of times before. We have always enjoyed it and the food is always excellent. We went for Restaurant Week this time. Absolutely not the great food we are used to. The salad (98% lettuce) had no zing to it. Very bland and neither my husband or I ate it. My steak which was medium done as requested (6 oz filet) was small and dry. The best part of the dinner was their signature bread with garlic butter and the dessert was excellent. We were very unimpressed.
The place is special. It feels like Marilyn Monroe and the Rat Pack could enter at any moment. The service was perfect and very friendly. The oysters were a bit pricey, but very good. I had the lunch special- fish and chips. I substituted garlic mashed for the chips. The veggies were cooked very well- still nice and crisp. I was disappointed in the fish however. The breading was so thick that I peeled it off and ate the small amount of remaining fish.
Our meals were prepared exactly as desired. The steak filets were very tender and delicious. So were the lamb chops. I certainly would highly recommend dining at Durant's.
Though the prime rib was perfect and the au jus was wonderful, the salads were just average. Very nice pumpkin cheesecake. The place is busy!! Hence, the noise level was a bit high. Tables were close together and conversation was unavoidably overheard. \n\nOverall, good dining experience. I'd come again for the prime rib!
The food was delicious and the inside of the restaurant was like steeping back in time. Loved entering through the Kitchen to be seated. Big comfy booths and steaks that were cooked to perfection! This was a real gem for an out of town visitor!
My first time dining at Durant's and even though I live in Chicago, I will make sure when I'm back in Phoenix that I visit and dine at Durant's again and again. I don't believe that I have ever had a steak that melted in your mouth like butter, but that is exactly what my filet was like. It was simply amazing! The strawberry shortcake is a must!
Went to Durant's for a friends anniversary dinner...had heard various feedback on this place from good to bad...but figured it is a local spot and has a history so let's just check it out for ourselves and see. I was not disappointed nor were any in our party. The service was excellent; the food terrific and the atmosphere took you back to the old time steakhouses of the 40's with red booths; red wall paper and tons of pictures on the walls. All in all I would say that this is a good place to go for a special occasion. The pricing is a bit high but it was not bad considering the size of portions and the quality of the food was spot on.
Went here for lunch with a friend to celebrate our birthdays. She ordered a dry martini with blue-cheese stuffed olives. Our server was amazing and hand packed the olives herself. This restaurant goes above & beyond it's patron's needs. I highly recommend Durants for any occasion.
The Ribeye was great, but my wife's prime rib was steamed and tough. Split pea soup was good, but not great. The Key Lime Pie was good, but again not great, and the creme brulee trio was nothing special. Luckily, our friends from out of town were great company, so in spite of these short-comings and the $300 bill (no liquor), we had a great time.
Imagine you at here in 1984 for the first time as I did. Now, make several stops over the many years and get here during our food craze of 2016. Nothing changes. Enter through the kitchen. Sit in the leather couch booth. Red themed wall paper and dark lighting. You have no idea if you are in 2016 or 1984. Great food. Timeless decor.
This is our family's go-to place to celebrate the milestones of our lives, or the place that just makes us feel good. This was my mother's favorite restaurant, so we go there to remember great times with her. The food, atmosphere, and service is always impeccable! I don't know if this is true, but the rounded booth right across from the kitchen doors was Marilyn Monroe's favorite table. It's fun to think of her there!!!!
Flavor, quality, portion size and service were excellent.
The food and service was impeccable. Never a disappointment.
The prime ribs were amazing, cocktails generous, but the best part of our meal was our waiter Lonnie. We had a fabulous meal!
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary on March 2nd here.
Enjoyed the bar for a before dinner cocktail. The bartenders are friendly and informative on comparable libations. \nAt dinner enjoyed an appetizer, steak & prime rib (both excellent) and dessert. The waiter was attentive, friendly and well versed on the menu items.\nDurant's assured a very nice 35th anniversary. We will return.
Great food, but prices were very expensive. A steak does cost $50 to buy from a butcher.
As always Durant's exceeds our expectations for quality of food and service .
Haven't been to Durant's in a while and almost forgot how awesome this place is! It was my boyfriend's first time and he immediately fell in love with the place! Such a cool and yet old fashion vibe! This steakhouse definitely gives you the unique and fun vibe for a perfect date night!
celebrated a friends birthday here. Three of four of us had never been. It was a great experience. The service was impeccable. We were made to feel special. The ambiance was warm, clean and felt like we went back in time. Although the prices were very high, (which we knew going in) the food was well prepared and tasted good. For a special occasion it was worth the money.
Durants is a tasty steakhouse that cannot be beat. Menu items are high quality, including seafood. Ambiance is relaxed despite the high caliber of food and service. This restaurant out to be on everyone's bucket list.
After being away from Phirnix for 36 years we found Durants to still be a fantastic dining experience. Hope they never change a thing!!
Durant's is a wonderful throwback to the classic steak houses of old. Service was great, food was plentiful and excellent and the wine was fine. Highly recommended!
Service was great, Thanks Matt! My sandwich was OK, but certainly well short of the $18.50 menu price. Wife's pork plate special was also good .... $17.95.
The food was excellent and the service was amazing. Our server took very good care of us during our lunch meeting, and gave several excellent suggestions for those of us who weren't sure what to eat. The only issue I had was that I was close to the bar and the waiters and waitresses kept bumping into my chair while walking behind me. It wasn't enough to change my rating. The food was delicious and our server was great.
I love the food and the quiet atmosphere of Durants...This is an awesome place to go when you want to enjoy conversation and great food!! Perfect for business meetings as well. :)\nLove, Love, Love this place!!!
Our waiter was outstanding, but I can't say the same for the meal. I drop by Durants a few times a year and it is always a pleasant experience. However, the food on this trip was sub-par. The T-bone and the Prime Rib were significantly less than what I normally receive. Both steaks were a bit dry (although only cooked to medium-rare), and the T-bone had nearly as much gristle as it did meat. Drinks and appetizer were both as good as always, but main course was lacking. For a lunchtime meal that ran $120 for two (no alcohol), I expect much more than what we received.
Durant's is my favorite place in Phoenix to hang. Wonderful service, perfect dirty martinis, a killer wine and whiskey list and food that always makes me happy. \n\nMy favorite apps are the calamari, debris with garlic aioli and the raw oysters with French fries. They are always willing to switch out the Caesar dressing (which is great too by the by) on their Caesar salad for their house vinaigrette, which is so good with seared salmon... unless I'm indulging and want steak on my salad with their awesome Roquefort. The Shrimp Scampi with Linguini is my favorite I've ever had. Creamy, indulgent, so good with a buttery chard. And the petite filet with garlic mashed potatoes is a frequent go to.\n\nI have a lifetime dessert coin... Which is lucky for me since I can't go to Durant's without having the key-lime pie and a cappuccino.\n\nGo. Just... Go.
The service was great. Great waiter. Nice ambiance based on the history of Durant's! The food was average, does not compare to some of the better steak houses in the valley. We ordered T-bone and prime rib. I asked for my prime rib to be medium, it was cooked beyond medium, no pink at all. Over priced in my opinion.
A classic! This is the place for the really special occasion. Ambiance that hearkens back to old traditional steakhouses, really professional and friendly staff, and best of all just outstanding quality food. It will set you back a bit, but definitely worth it. I had the filet, and it was perfect. I also highly recommend the oysters Rockefeller.
We enjoyed a great dinner. The service was outstanding. We ate early because we were heading to a concert, so the restaurant was a little slow when we got there at 5pm. I've been there many times for dinner around 7-8pm and it's always a very energetic but classy place.
From the moment you enter through the kitchen and are greeted by the busy cooks through the end of a superb meal the Durant's experience is a truly wonderful experience. The wine selection is great and the food selection delightful. My companion and I also split a delicious desert (although I don't know where we put it). The friendly, attentive wait staff makes for a truly enjoyable dining experience. The ambiance of the place is old style classy dining. We will definitely be returning next year for our 7th Anniversary!
Durant's is a Phoenix standby that celebrates its 65th birthday this year. The steaks are out of this world and much better than some of the well known chain steakhouses. The service is world class and the dining experience takes you back to a time when you really felt like a night out was a special occasion.
Fantastic meal in a fantastic location. Great steaks and excellent choice of appetizers. Classic looking, feeling and tasting steakhouse. Great value given you get amazing warm bread, soup or salad and one side with your dinner. Excellent atmosphere and food.
Very few restaurants maintain the presence of Durant's within the greater Phoenix metropolitan marketplace. While others may offer, or at least attempt to offer, an equal level of service, quality of product, variety of choices, and measure of ambience; NO purveyor of goods and services can approach the combination of these traits at the incredibly elevated levels offered by Durant's. This is the restaurant you go to when you want to celebrate an important event. This is the restaurant you go to when you want to impress your friends. This is the restaurant you go to when you want to 'accidentally' run in to the Governor or other fanciful members of the great state of Arizona. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable, the selection is divine. Do yourself a favor and skip a few of those 'low end' meals at places named after states or animals and enjoy a meal that's worth the wait. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for!
I think it might be time to update and bring everything to the modern day and out of 1984. Pretty boring experience and the food was less than mediocre.
WE TOOK OUR OUT-OF-TOWN GUEST FOR LUNCH AND ALL THREE OF US WERE PLEASED AND WELL-TAKEN CARE OF.
Loved the atmosphere of hustle and bustle. It isn't a quiet romantic place, but it was fun and our waiter was fabulous and very attentive to our needs. I think the food is good, just not the best I have had in my life. The best was the Strawberry Shortcake! Amazing desert!
Disappointing . Hostess uninterested almost sarcastic.\n\nBartender lacked personality.\n\nWaiter good, but food very disappointing, but expensive\n\nFourth time there but each time losing something\n\nSorry but won't be back. Several other steakhouses with better food and service for the money, i. e. Dominick's, Preston's, Maestro's etc.
The food was excellent, my husband loves their aged ribeye. I personally think they have the best prime rib in town. The service was exceptional with our waiter knowing just when to stop by. We come here for all our special occasions.
In my humble opinion Durant's is one of the great steakhouses in America and the best one in Arizona (and I have seen a few in my time, including many of the best ones in Chicago, St. Louis and elsewhere). It has history, character, first class service and the steak is as good as any you will find anywhere. Not a chain but a real place, unique and fantastic.
Delicious food, great service, classic ambiance. Enjoyable meal exceeded expectations.
We were treated royally! Seating was upgraded, service friendly and efficient, food excellent, coin for free dessert a real treat! We love coming to Durants and will be back again soon, we hope!
We arrived early and had drinks at the bar. Convivial group, appeared to be quite a few regulars. Bartender attentive and very knowledgeable of varied beverage selections. Menu is extensive and appeals to varied group - while steak is primary choice, there are many seafood and salad options as well - even liver, my mom's favorite and something you do not find on many menus these days. Warm herbed bread and relish tray pre-meal was just enough. Having been there before I ordered off appetizer and sides list [Durant debris & mac/cheese with crab! More than enough as I brought some home]. My colleague had the bone in ribeye; price may scare some however he raved about the quality and felt it was worth the price. Even though the restaurant was packed, the noise level was acceptable - we were able to chat without having to repeat ourselves. Servers attentive and friendly...great evening!
Took a friend out for birthday drinks and it was a well poured cocktail, altho I couldnt have my Drink as you dont have the Lillet for a Vespa Martini. The Durants Debri is amazing...
Steak was overlooked, actually all 3 steaks were overdone. Love this place but seriously???!
Food, Cocktails, Service and Atmosphere were outstanding! This was our 35th wedding anniversary and all the staff at Durant's made us feel special. Our entree's were the best we ever tasted and they even offered us a free creme brulee desert for our special day. What a great time!
Our waiter was very professional...but we did get him to laugh by the end of the evening! the table was disappointing...for a party of 5, we were seated at the entrance to the kitchen, so some of the guests faced the open kitchen. so lots of traffic and very noisey at that location. Table was ready - no waiting and a bottle of champagne chilled to celebrate our anniversary. Wonderful strawberry shortcake compliments of Durants to finish a lovely evening.
Terrific steak as always. The NY strip was unreal as was the dessert. Service was prompt and courteous as always.
Old school steakhouse. Love this place! They get it right all the time!
My wife and I went to Durant's based upon the recommendation of some people in our community, as well as their reputation as being a top notch, classic Phoenix steak house. I ordered the T-Bone steak. It was less than 1/2 inch thick and full of sinew and gristle. Not once did the waiter ask how the meal was. The plate was picked up by another server, who saw that half of it was left on the plate, cut up and uneaten with the sinew and gristle plainly visible. I told that server how poor the quality of the steak was and she simply smiled and said nothing. My wife ordered Prime Rib, and although it wasn't inedible, it wasn't particularly tender either. The steak I ordered was $50 and the Prime Rib was similarly high priced. The meals we experienced were absolutely not worth the value. I will not recommend Durant's to anyone and will not return. Other steak houses in Phoenix have far better food and infinitely better value.
We love Durants for all occasions - and the food, the service, the atmosphere is always impeccably remarkable! The waiters are polite, professional and attend to our every need. There are no better steaks in the valley - and even a cocktail at the bar is an event. Thank you for being a Phoenix landmark and staying true to your roots!
Such a great experience especially it being our first time- it most definitely will not be our last. From walking through the back of the restaurant kitchen adding to the speakeasy vibe, to the delicious and well timed courses we could not get enough. We were also impressed that such a fancy place had great quality wine options that wouldn't make the bill go over the top.
A classic with great food
Great 1950's ambiance with a retro gangster feel. The dim lighting is romantic and the red velvet is inviting. A glass of wine and or martinis was a beautiful start.\nBooth seating makes for a more elegant fell with a nice onion, radish, celery, and olive appetizer. The leak/garlic bread is ever so addicting. An hour of enjoying great conversation combined with a mean of tasty salmon and steak that was cooked to perfection . Ending the memory with tiramisu and coffee at which was even more delightful. The\nhustle bustle of the kitchen is fun whether coming or going and a hello is nearly always guaranteed.
Way too loud, seats are VERY close together. Had to squeeze between tables to stand up. Awkward.
I love 'Old Style Steakhouses', always heard and wanted to try Durant's. We came partially for AZ restaurant week. I made the reservation for 7:00 on Saturday. When we arrived there was ample spaces for parking, no need for the valet service. Atmosphere was 'Old school', great feel., busy, tables filled and moderately loud.\n\nOur waiter Craig introduced himself, we ordered drinks while reviewing the menu. I took advantage of the AZ Restaurant week menu: A glass of Red Wine, House salad, 12 oz. Prime Rib w/Mash Potatoes, Chocolate Indulgence Cake and Coffee, all for $44 (good deal). My dining partners ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and shared the 48 oz. Porterhouse. \n\nService was a little slow in the beginning, long wait to take out drink order and then long wait to place our orders, but then picked up after we did finally order. Steaks were done to perfection (needs more seasoning though), mash potatoes (not good). Relish Tray, Garlic Bread, Salads were all good. Dessert was very good.\n\nService good, food good, definitely worth going for the experience at least once.
This was a special anniversary occasion. We started at the bar and the bartender was very good, she was friendly and informative.\nDinner was exceptional, it was during restaurant week and there was an excellent special for $44. that my wife chose, I wanted the bone in Ribeye, it was good however not $65. good. I should of went with the special
excellent old style steak house - great food and attentive service
We enjoyed the food and beverage as usual and the waiter was great!
My husband treated me to Durant's last Christmas season and I was really impressed with the restaurant. At his insistence, we brought my dad here a few weeks ago as a special treat. I knew dad would enjoy the old-school ambiance and the superb food. Plus, It's one of the few remaining steak houses where you actually get an entire meal with your order and don't have to order everything a la carte. We ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer, the mussels appetizer, a scallops entrée, a surf and turf entrée, and the filet mignon entrée. For dessert, we all shared the cheesecake and the brownie sundae. Everything was absolutely PERFECT and we all couldn't have been happier. As an added plus, our waiter (I think it was Lenny?) in particular and the entire serving staff were outstanding -- just the right combination of friendly and efficient. I have tried many a trendy steak house over the years and have usually left feeling unsatisfied for one reason or another. Durant's has been around a long time for good reason: They have perfected the dining experience by knowing what their customers want and by delivering it time and again. I hope to return soon for another excellent meal -- Thanks!
Visiting is to the dining room through the kitchen.\nIt was uncomfortable in the next to the noisy groups, but food was delicious.\nService staff is very good.
Service and the food were excellent, my only regret was ordering the Rockefeller oysters. Although very good, also very fulfilling. I couldn't enjoy my prime rib because I was very full by the time the main course hit the table.\n\nI will be back for the porterhouse steak.
It may not be the best steak in town (though it might be one of the most expensive), but the ambience is worth the price of admission. One of Old Phoenix's finer places.
We had an amazing dinner. Patrick was our waiter. How lucky were we to get him!! We will request him on our next visit for sure. My husband had the prime rib. It completely disappeared from his plate. Needless to say, it was very good. I had the filet. The flavor reminded me of what steak is supposed to taste like when cooked properly. So tender and flavorful... We will return!
Never disappointing. It was great; and even better as it was restaurant week so we got a special deal.
Great deal for Restaurant Week!
We had a most enjoyable birthday celebration at Durant's. It began with excellent drinks at the bar with Vince and ended with superlative meals in our favorite booth. Our waiter, Lonnie, was an excellent host and only added to our enjoyment. Thank You!
Disappointed. We expected good food which we received. We also expected a diner club athmosphere to dine & converse with friends. That did not happen. Very, very noisy. We could not hear each other across our half round booth. We asked to be moved since there were open tables in the other rooms. Our waitress didn't seemed interested in or concern and simply said the other areas would be just as noisy. It detracted from what should have been a NICE evening with friends. We just basically ate and left and went elsewhere to converse. There is no charm in that!\n A lot of Phoenix restrurants prepare equally good food everyday but have better service and a MUCH BETTER dinning experience.
Great place. Had read about it and was not disappointed. It met all my expectations.
We've been going to Durants for 38+ years and have never been disappointed.
Food was great, but was very disappointed with the service. Very slow, non responsive, and not friendly. Seemed bothered we were there. Kind of sad. It used to be such a great place. The only person that even smiled was the maitre d'. The waitress dropped a knife on one of us while picking up a plate and didn't apologize. Forgot side dishes ordered with dinner. Left us way to long without checking in and seeing if we needed more drinks. Had to ask another waiter for service. We got drinks before dinner and the bartender was not friendly either. Was only concerned that we closes his tab first.
This was a wonderful place to come. I attended dinner with two other guests. I made reservations and I didn't have to wait like I observed other individuals having to do.
The atmosphere is remenicent of the 40's which is delightful.\n\nThe menu selection is good and the delivery is good. The quality of food is very good and the service is very good.\n\nIn all, a great destination event.
Excellent as always! The food was ALL great! Will return soon.
Amazing food but the Key Lime Pie and the Apple Cobbler Ala Mode are absolutely amazing and should not be missed. We were practically ready to lick the plate!
In short: great expectations, HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Server inattentive , big attitude & could care less satisfying 4 customers. Food plopped on greasy plates, steaks AWFUL, chewie , cold, fatty; no redeeming qualities. We are glad we have the past wonderful memories, the good old classy times are surely gone!!!
What a wonderful find! This place is awesome. The food was fabulous, as was the service.
I would recommend and probably return.
Food was excellent. Service was superb. Ambience was striking
Service and ambiance was great as usual. The food quality was sub-par this time compared to other times I have eaten there. Way to expensive to have just an average meal.
This is the restaurant you go to for that once in a life time special night. \nIt is NOT a serve and leave, you need to take your time and enjoy your self, your company and the meal. Everyone from the maître d' to the waiter to the cook is concerned about your experience being the best it can be. \nYou owe it to yourself and your, spouse, family, or friends to visit this amazing steakhouse in downtown Phoenix. \nAny night is a great night to visit!
where can you go and get the BEST food in phoenix. our waiter suggested the rib eye. it was like butter. our freinds got a filet, and said the best ever. great salad, baked potato the best. for dessert, had the best sorbet ever. next time, the key lime. great service, and always great food.
The filet was very tender great flavor but some marbling which I didn't expect in a filet, so some parts were chewy. The mashed potatoes were a bit salty. Great ambiance because of the history. Staff was very pleasant.
My husband and I met another couple for dinner at Durant's recently on a Friday night for dinner at 5pm before going to a charity concert nearby. It was a lovely dinner (we all had prime rib) and the service was excellent. When we arrived at 5:00, the restaurant was fairly quiet, but by the time we left at 6:45, it was booming with every table full. Make sure you make a reservation if going. The food was superb and we had a great time. It's definitely pricey, but worth it for a special occasion.
My girlfriend and I had great dinner. Our waiter was Lonnie at table #43. The ribeye and filet was absolutely outstanding. The chocolate brownie dessert was fantastic. Lonnie, your excellent service and humor certainly contributed to our great evening. Thank you so much. Be back soon.
Took my sister and her husband, who are from out of town, for what I thought would be a special dinner at one of the iconic restaurants in Phoenix.\nOur server was SO slow with every course of our meal, it took an hour and a half before we got our food- and that was after my brother-in-law grabbed the bus person and asked her- because our server was nowhere to be seen- to check and see where our food was. He told us bluntly that if it weren't for my husband and I being there, he would have walked out of there. My prime rib, when it finally arrived, was cold.\nThe noise level that evening was horribly loud; all the diners were literally yelling at each other to be heard. So much for a nice relaxing meal. \nThe manager was nice enough and gave us a gift certificate for a future visit, but the night was ruined and I was embarrassed for bringing my out-of -town visitors to Durant's.
Our waiter was great and the food was amazing!!! We go every year for a special date night and will continue to go every year.
Took my wife there for her 60th birthday. The food was great, service was fantastic, would recommend to everyone who likes great food and old school school steakhouse ambience.
Good place to take customers. High end Restaurant but has an affordable wine list Good place
I love this place!!! The staff is great, food is classic American steak house fare. the overall look is nostalgic and always a fun time. Everyone should come here at least once, myself I will continue to come here as long has they are open ;)
Amazing food.. Great servings and enjoyed the whole evening
It's Durant's. Doesn't that say it all. It is an institution.
The filet was to die for!
Shrimp cocktail and filet mignon outstanding!
Took a retiring co-worker here for lunch. Had been years since either of us had been here. It was a good selection. Quality service and food.
Excellent food. We had oysters, chicken livers, chicken pot pie soup, chopped salad, and the Delmonico and ribeye cuts. Also three manhattans each.\nDelicious!!!
My fiance & I drove by Durant's on the way to a meeting downtown, she mentioned that she would love to dine there. During the meeting I made a reservation for lunch, everything was perfect!!! Opentable worked flawlessly, & the folks at Durant's couldn't have done better! The food & service were outstanding! We highly recommend the Opentable app & Durant's for dining! We'll definitely use both again!!!
I could have sliced my Delmonico steak with a butter knife. It was outstanding. You'll pay a pretty penny to dine at Durants but you won't be disappointed.
After getting a recommendation for a good steakhouse in PHX, we arrived at Durant's, ambiance was as expected, but the $$$$$ was almost 30% more than Morton/Ruth Chris menu which was surprising.\n\nFood and service were excellent, just be prepared to pay for it - also had one VERY LOUD group near us that was using vulgar language and shouting, somewhat killed our ability to have a conversation and the restaurant staff didn't notice until several people complained.
Durant's is a traditional steakhouse in the New York style. Our steaks were outstanding and perfectly prepared. Other dishes were fine but not inspired. The wine list is excellent and prices are very reasonable. Service was a little uneven - friendly but a bit slow even though the restaurant wasn't full when we arrived. We would recommend Durant's as a place to get excellent steaks at reasonable prices in a classic setting.
We all (4 adults) thoroughly enjoyed the service and food. The steak and prime rib were cooked to perfection! Our server was very attentive. All in all, it was a great experience.
We always enjoy the food and service. Both are consistently good.
Ohhh!Durant's . \nI am a returning patron since 1974.\nOn 4/7, I brought 2 guest's. \nFrom when we entered (kitchen),\nthey were mesmerized by the impeccable\nstaff that greeted our party and we were seated immediately.\nFrom our before dinner drink's , hors d' oeuvre's, main course (porterhouse) to dessert and after dinner drink's we all shared a dinning experience that will forever be raved about to many.\nLong live Durant's.....Sincerely,\n Lisa Jeanette.
Durant's is legendary in Phoenix, a real class act. Food is always perfect, staff is outstanding, atmosphere is like stepping back in time to the 1950's. We adore Durant's.
We took our Grandson and his girlfriend to Durant's for dinner. The evening could not have been better. The decor was a trip down memory lane. The service and food were the best. We will definitely return.
My wife and I went on a much needed and overdue date to the Orpheum to see a show. The show was OK but not as good as we had hoped. Durant's made up for this. We had a waiter that always showed up when we needed something but didn't leave us feeling as if we had no privacy - I noticed that he observed where we were with our meal as he passed by and gauged when to stop in on us - he was definitely experienced and very polite. The Prime Rib was outstanding as was the garlic mashed potatoes and salad. We had no room but couldn't pass on the desert so we ordered key lime pie and tiramisu to go - and it was great. The date went so well that the desert came in handy later as an energy boost!
Classic, old-school steakhouse with a mid-20th century charm. Food was good, but not necessarily exceptional, and it's certainly pricey. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the service was great.
Durant's is always a very special place to have dinner. It is both 'old-school' Phoenix yet modern and vibrant. The food is excellent and the service can not be matched.
We (there) were four of us who ordered steak, which is supposedly the restaurant's trademark. None of the steaks came as ordered rare, was medium rare, medium rare was medium and medium was well-done. The quality of the meat did not match other steak restaurants and the mushrooms and onion rings were cold.
You almost expect Frank Sinatra to be seated next to you. Best steaks in town and martinis for every taste.
All of the reviews are accurate, the food is delicous, and to be honest you likely know what you're in for it you're going to Durants for dinner. My wife and I went for our anniversary. Now I'll mention it was St Patrick's Day, but it seemed very Disneyland to me. For a place that offers a 900 dollar bottle of wine, a 140 dollar porterhouse steak and the server in a tuxedo vest and a bowtie, I expected the ambiance to be better than what it was. There were women walking around with four leaf clovers dangling on their heads singing songs from table to table. Also the lack of dress code was frankly appalling. There were several people in gym clothes, the gentleman next to us was wearing shorts, a t shirt and blue gym shoes. I didn't pay 900 dollars for wine nor 140 for a steak, but for the price point I expected a little more by way of ambiance. I won't go back for the ambiance alone. It was a terrible place for an anniversary.
One of the best steaks I have ever had, and that covers 50 years of eating steaks.
While the steaks are excellent, they are also ridiculously expensive! The only way we can afford to eat here is to share an entre.
Went for our anniversary and Durrants is always solid. Great atmosphere and well prepared food.
This is a great place to enjoy a wonderful dinner food & service are always great. I wish they would bring back the chicken & dumplings best I ever had that was only 50 years ago. Great history & a different look & feel, can't beat walking in through the kitchen.
The service is excellent without being intrusive or rushed. The noise level was a little higher than our previous visits, somewhat detracting from the relaxing aspect of our dinner\nNone the less, I would recommend Durants and we will continue to go there.
Have enjoyed this restaurant off and on for twenty years. This time our wait staff was very friendly and efficient. However, we were totally disappointed in the food quality and, as a result, the value. And the valet was a rude snot. We won't be returning.
The food was wonderful; my steak (a filet) was perfectly prepared. The service was attentive but not hovering. We loved the atmosphere. I had been to Durants many years ago and so glad to return. The quality has not changed at all.
Had a business dinner at Durant's, hadn't been there in a while and decided to go 'old school' Phoenix. While we enjoyed the atmosphere, saw several people we know coming and going, the food quality was disappointing, steak overcooked, salad and veggies just ordinary. Not a good value for the exorbitant prices. Make sure to check the menu pricing before going if you're at all on a budget. Waiter became less attentive as the night progressed, I think he was disappointed we were not boozing it up.
We go here on special occasions. It's a relaxing place for two.
Durant's service is bar none. They watch and time each course perfectly. They pay attention to detail and are on point for each change in course. And the food is equivalently delicious. If you've ever wondered what a real sauteed mushroom dish is supposed to taste like then this is the place. Steaks are perfectly prepared. Dinner was amazing.
My kind of decor. Next time I'm bringing a pair of tongs for when I pass through the kitchen.
Great service, great food, servers really care about you.
Great venue, wonderful food and staff. We really enjoy dining here.
Love the food!
I have lived in the Valley for many years. I finally made it to Durant's to celebrate my fiftieth birthday. If you are a fan of 'Mad Men', you will love this place. It's a vintage step back in time, but it doesn't feel old. It's the type of place to spend an evening; drinks at the bar, then dinner, wine, and dessert. The menu has classic steak items as well as new favorites. The wine list is extensive. Our waitress. Angela, was friendly and answered all of our questions. I overheard one waiter tell his customer's that he had worked there for 20 years. I did need a take away container. What impressed me is that they do not use plastic bags or Styrofoam containers. Everything is recycleable. It's a small thing, but it made an impression. Durant's is truly somewhere to make an evening of going out to dinner.
Great food Great staff. Never dissatisfied. One of the best places in Phoenix.
food was great this time. excellent steak and sea food. salads and sides. great service.
Meals are always delightful here. I'm very glad we came for the anniversary celebration and got out free desert tokens. We've already used them again twice.
Not an inexpensive dining experience, but one of our favorite restaurants for very special occasions. Make sure you walk in the back door so that you get the experience of walking past the kitchen. The bar is always fun - if you can find a seat. Lots of chatter between the patrons. The food and experience is first rate, but be prepared to pay top dollar.\n\nIf you live in Phoenix, you have to experience Durant's at least once in your lifetime.
This was my second visit and I love the place. The best prime rib this side of the Brown Palace in Denver. Great waiter, great onion rings!! And, And, they have Knob Creek. Really nice place, I will be there every time I am in Phoenix.
We were a few minutes late for our reservation (15) but it was no problem . The service was excellent and the food wonderful. The warm bread was something none of the three of us had before. Excellent. Feels like an old time NYC restaurant. Very cozy.
I started with a Caesar Salad that was horrible. The romaine must have been soaking in ice water. It was so cold and tasteless. Hardly any dressing at all. My chicken Oscar was so fishy I couldn't even eat it. The oscar sauce was so thick. It was the worst meal I had ever had. I've always loved Durant's but after this experience, I doubt I go back. My meal was over $70 and I could not enjoy it. I wish I would have said something that night.
Old school steak house, perfect fit to my expectation. You definitely want to use the complimentary valet and enter through the back door. It leads you right through the kitchen and the staff greet you as you pass! Unexpected and unique... My bone-in ribeye was perfect, too!
We enjoy coming to Durants from the moment that you enter through the kitchen (they work so hard and it's hot!) to the second you leave ... everything is just perfect. Vince our waiter suggested that the scallops were very good and he did not disappoint. My wife had the filet and it was done to the just the way she liked it. Of course, the vegetable tray and the bread with the olive oil and garlic were delicious. Carmen kept our glass full and cleared our dishes as we finished. each course. And without a doubt, they do not disappoint with their drinks .. martinis splendid!
My first experience with Durant's was in the late 50's when I was about 12 years old. I loved the restaurant and the food! After 20 years in Phoenix I moved out of state, but never forgot Durant's. Last month I was visiting my daughter in Gilbert and took the opportunity to treat her and two of our friends to their first dinner at the restaurant. All of the meals - steaks, pork chops, fish and lamb - and all of the different cocktails were amazing, as was the entire wait staff. Thanks Durant's for staying just as good as I remembered!
Went there for our anniversary. Service was outstanding and steak was great. Scallops were chewy. $200+ for two people but expect that for a special occasion
My wife turned 51 so we celebrated her official Over the Hill age in an authentic 1950's venue. We had 5 family members to celebrate, and each of us rated our food outstanding. The ambiance was perfect for this party, and the dessert they brought my wife, a tower of strawberry shortcake, was the crowning glory for a memorable evening! We will be back.
Took my wife and her mother out for her moms birthday and it was great first time going and will go back again .
As Always we can an expect an outstanding dinning experience when we go to Durants. It is one of our favorite fine dinning restaurants in the valley.
Great steak, great salad with homeade dressing, & the best Key lime pie that was ever shoved into my pie hole... Thanks & I will be back.
Never have I had a steak as good as the one I had at Durant's. And, that includes the best steak houses in New York and elsewhere. Fabulous martinis, as well. Not to be missed if visiting Phoenix.
My spouse and I went to Durant's for our second anniversary dinner. Ron was our server and he was excellent. The appetizers of Scrimp Scampi(4 huge shrimp)and Calamari were very good.\nOur prime rib was great and they surprised with an incredible Strawberry Shortcake dessert.\nWe had not been there in a long time, so it was good to be back and we will not wait so long to return.
My mother was born and raised in Phoenix and her only request for her 64th birthday was to finally make it to Durant's.\r\nSo also being a first for my sister and myself we wanted to make her wish come true. The staff was fantastic, the meat was amazing and the ambiance was hypnotizing.\r\nMy only wish to make this evening even better was to have a little bit more attention paid to our table and my mother. Our server was fantastic but had a large group just behind us and several other tables to attend to.\r\nWe are looking forward to our next visit.
Parking and arrival was easy, for a 6:00 p.m. reservation on a Tuesday. Kitchen staff greeted us warmly as did everyone we encountered.\r\n\r\nArrived early and were seated promptly in large comfortable booth. Attentive service without an appetizer order. Restaurant supplied an interesting, delicious pairing of appetizer - the usual and a delicious bread-based one - on the house. Wine list extensive, expensive.\r\n\r\nOrdered non-Martini cocktail and was pleased. Had red wine to accompany my Top Sirloin (perfect) and my dining partner's Prime Rib (also perfect). Enjoyed baked potato (crispy skin but perfect inside) and garlic mashed as sides. All of the meal was just right.\r\n\r\nDessert of mixed fruit and ice cream was recommended and delicious - shared between two.\r\n\r\nService was impeccable, but expected same. Reputation stands up well. Fresh flowers nice.\r\n\r\nOverall, a good experience for this special occasion. I would do it again.
We went for Valentines Day dinner. It was way better than expected! We both ordered Prime Rib and it was high quality and cooked to perfection. The service staff was EXTREAMLY accommodating and attentive. Will definitely be going back again!
The food here was amazing. Our server Corey was very attentive and professional. There were several tables that were very loud but one in particular was extremely obnoxious. It was obvious that they were drunk and they were Skypeing at their table yelling out profanity. My wife and I are in our early 20's and in the military so we're used to people acting this way but at a nice restaurant we hoped that the staff would at least ask them to quiet down or even to leave. Our waiter Corey did apologize and gave us a dessert on the house which was kind of him. If you want a romantic night out then I recommend Durant's but be weary of the guests because we are not the first to complain about the noise.
We were very excited to get to the Restaurant, experience leading up to the waiter arriving was wonderful. Waiter was not friendly. At first I thought he was old school, not a lot of chit chat. But then I noticed him engaging with other tables, and realized he was a pretty cold fish to us. The food was very good, in fact I would say very very good. It did not however WOW us like we would have expected from a $300.00 dinner for 4 with only 3 bar drinks, no appetizer, no dessert, so extra's. We tried to order something non-alcoholic but festive...and got no where. Finally I came with a Pineapple/Cran over ice with lime. The waiter would not take back a Coke we decided not to have, left it on table till we asked him to remove it.\nAtmosphere is fun and lively, and loud, which we enjoyed.
I ordered the bone-in sirloin? ( the Delmonicl ) , which was recommended by our waiter. The steak had quite a bit of grilse (probably 2-3 chewy bites. ) I was really disappointed. Wish I would have ordered the filet.
We had some of the best prime rib I have had in a long time. The au gratin potato was also special. Service was top notch.
As the title says, just an outstanding experience from all angles. We've been Durant's customers for a long while and this place has never let us down. Great value, considering that the side dishes come as complimentary and don't have to be purchased separately, like the 'other' steak place in town. Thank you, Durant's!!
Food, Service, Wine list all outstanding!!! They did have a Mariachi band playing that started about halfway through our dinner, it was very loud and just seemed to be inappropriate for the type of restraunt. We were sitting at a small table and we had to speak up a lot to just hear eachother. We were seated between the dining room and bar which was not bad and even though the bar was packed, it was fine until the band started. This was our first experience at Durants and I was hoping for it to be a little classier considering the price.
We enjoyed the ambience and the service was excellent. We had the prime rib. It was done correctly, but the quality was below standards for a restaurant of this caliber.
Highly recommend this place for lunch. Have not tried dinners here.
This is not our first visit. It is a great experience. The service and food are outstanding.
This is one of our favorite places to dine. Once again we were delighted with the overall experience. Great steaks and service are a given. Durant's has a special charm to it as it is a one off vs. one of many. Walking in through the kitchen where the entire staff welcomes you always puts a smile on your face to start the evening. Getting relaxed with one of the best martinis in town certainly doesn't hurt either! Durant's is one of Phoenix' special gems.
What a great place ! Terrific American especially the steaks and perfect cocktails although rather large martinis. Have been 4 times and always excellent service. When you are finished go to the bar for one more. Dave has been there for some years and knows his craft. Attaboy Dave ! You gotta go.
Great service. Ask for Kevin, you won't be disappointed. Best steaks in town. Make sure you save room for the strawberry shortcake. Love this place!!
Excellent meal and service. Only issue was a large group that was very loud and using bad language. Not the restaurant fault but their waiter was making comments to us and another nearby tables about how loud his group was. Not funny. I'll be back but not near a large table setting. Ribeyes were perfect and their bread is fantastic. Go visit.
Saturday Night - Feb 6 2016 - When we arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation, your host (an elderly gentleman) checked us in and said we could go to our table or to the lounge for drinks. The lounge I found out was actually the bar and it was completely occupied. Returning to the host I asked to be taken to our table. The poor guy was surrounded with people and confused. After several minutes I again asked to be taken to our table. Your host got belligerent and ordered one of the many girls to take us to our table. On the way our girl disappeared and we were left standing and not knowing where our table was (this was our first visit). Stranded, we went back to the host explained what had happened and received a snide remark from him. Not a great way to start the evening.\n\nOrdering from the menu was extremely difficult due to the lighting level.\n\nMy steak (rib-eye) was streaked with gristle and fat. Two bites and I left it.\n\nThe restaurant was very, very loud and any conversation with my guest was impossible.\n\nIn the future I will leave Durant's to the good old boys.
Durant's has outstanding ambiance and to-die-for prime rib. In fact, the entire menu is quite good. The service could be a little more attentive, like filling water and wine glasses when empty as opposed to during the 'next table check-in.' At the top of our meal, I also ordered a meal to go--to take to a sick friend. I was disappointed to get that meal all the way home only to find that I paid for, but did not receive, an order of crab macaroni & cheese. Yes mistakes happen, but it seems that lately the mind of the servers are elsewhere.....But overall, this place has great food, great drink and is a great place to enjoy a nice meal with friends. I have dined here for over 2 decades, and won't stop anytime soon.
Being originally from the Chicago land, area love the old feel and look of this place â like a comfortable dining room in a upscale setting. I return as often as possible with clients who have never been here. The steaks and sides are amazing everyone loved the place and I'm sure they will be back on there own. Service was well-timed and friendly as always.
Durante is a classic that is frozen in a bygone time and that is the charm of it. Very good service and excellent steaks. A Phoenix must.\nVery busy and popular, reservations recommended.
With so many fine dining establishments in the valley, a recent lunch at Durant's provided a disappointing experience. Previous visits caused us to expect a high level of service coupled with a warm environment. Durant's delivered on environment, from being greeted by staff as we entered through the kitchen to being greeted and seated by a friendly hostess. Once seated, however, things went downhill. After a bit of a wait an older waiter with the attitude we'd described as 'a lifer' appeared and asked if we were ready to order. No mention of a drink or appetizer. Wham, bam! Ok, then. We order, food is delivered and our waiter passes our booth several times without inquiring how things were or if we would like anything else. He literally disappeared from the room. As I made my way to the men's room, though, I did spot him joking with the bartender. One might ask if the Durant's of old is no more. Durant's is certainly unworthy of a repeat visit.
I took my girlfriend of 13 years for our anniversary and it was utterly amazing on all fronts. Every single piece of food we tried was full of flavor. It is really hard to control yourself with food this good. We had the bone in ribeye, au gratin potatoes, onion rings, sautéed mushrooms and some type of garlic bread that was roll shaped. I would definitely go again as this place has ruined all other restaurants for me so far. I have been to Ruth's Chris, JG and Mastros and Duarnt's is the clear winner for me.
Durants lived up to it reputation. It was a great place for an Anniversary Dinner. Kind of loud and rather busy for a Thursday night. Our waitress was wonderful but busy with too many tables to give us that undivided attention we expected for that kind of price! It took awhile to get our order placed or request anything but food came out quickly and was great. I recommend the Prime Rib my husband had. I had the Chicken Oscar.. too much sauce but still good.
My party of six and myself made reservations on a Saturday night. Actually, we made a super day of it watching 'Durant's Never Closes' before dinner and going to Char's after dinner. Durant's has been a part of my fine dining experience for 40 years, and remains the best restaurant in Phoenix.
I have enjoyed Durant's for the past 8 years. Every six months I travel back to Arizona from North Carolina. Great food, presentation and service are a very important factor for me. With a smile on my face I can say that Durant's has never failed to provide that to me and my guests. I have always referred friends and business acquaintances, when asked for a place to go for an exceptional dinner, that Durant's is that place.\n\nI have great comfort in knowing that I can rely on this establishment for the complete high end experience..
This is my third visit to Durant's while in Phoenix. They have a varied menu to fit all tastes, but the steaks are the specialty. I had the New York Strip (14 oz.) and it was tender as could be, with little gristle or fat. The other five in our party had salmon, scallops, top sirloin steak, crab cakes and prime rib. I heard NO complaints from anyone. Highly recommended when visiting Phoenix and celebrating a special get-together. Just make your reservation much in advance of your visit, even during the weekdays.
This place is amazing. Food, service, everything is just on point.
It was an old school steakhouse, where you walk in through the kitchen to the dining area, to make you feel like your in Goodfellas. The Steak was good, (not great) and while there were really no complaints, I felt the quality of the steak it was overpriced by about $10/steak. Steaks range from $40-$60 (90% of them) and the Ribeye was recommended, and it was good, just wasn't a $50 ribeye in my opinion. I would go back, but after trying other steakhouses in Phoenix first.
What makes Durants so special is its long term reputation of a great restaurant in spite of change of ownership and 50-60 years in the same spot.\n\nMy friends and I ate there 50 years ago at least. Went back this week to enjoy a lunch together. We were there 3 hours. It was great fun.
Ensure you valet and enter thru the back entrance. Great selection of Scotch, and the steaks were perfect.
Very expensive, but most steak places are. Wonderful food, great choices other than steak as well. Wait staff very attentive. A little noisy but after a drink it doesn't matter. \nGreat restaurant.
It was my wife's birthday and we were seated in a corner that was a table where everyone shares the booth seat next to you. I asked\n\nto me moved and they moved us in-between the service door on either side with glasses and dishes clanging all through the dinner. \n\nThis was far from the romantic dinner that I had planned. Then I made the reservations telling them it was her birthday and nothing\n\nwas brought to the table in celebration of that either. \n\nShe was not impressed. \n\nthank you
The restaurant was far too busy to be comfortable. Wanted to enjoy our Durant's experience with a cocktail in the bar, unfortunately the bar was so packed it was impossible to even be served. We were seated early as a result in a location that was so loud and busy we were unable to hear each other speak. Our waiter was attentive, however hurried us through the evening. My husband specifically requested medium to med rare... more on the med rare side, and the steak was delivered well past medium. Salads were good and nice sized. Sides were also good, the sweet potatoe fries were great. Each of us had a cocktail, salad and dinner with two sides to share and our bill for 4 people was over $500 with tip. We were excited to experience a long time established restaurant dining experience at Durant's, unfortunately we were very disappointed and won't be back.
This resturaunt has been on my bucket list since I returned to the Phoenix area almost 20 years ago. \nA graduate of Phoenix Central High School just up the road and had been to Durant's in the late 50's with my parents. \nLove the ambiance, food was delicious and wait staff super. \nHighly recommend you visit this historic landmark. There celebrating 65 years in the valleyðð»
Soon after being seated at our table we quickly realized that we missed dining at Durant's, a great place for a superb meal for the past 65 years. It had been at least two years since our last visit. Yes, we fell victim to the newcomer steakhouses in the area. From now on, Durant's is back on the list of favorite places to eat. I'm very fond of Durant's sautéed chicken livers as the little devils are too dangerous to make a home (Note: failure to pierce each liver with a fork -- at least three times -- equals little balls of C4-like explosive in the hot oil!). And the livers are what I had -- with champagne! Where else can you get that combo? The champagne was the perfect accompaniment to the richness of the little livers. The beau had roasted chicken, Oscar style. On the side, Mac'n'cheese with Crabmeat. Preceding the meal, a wedge salad for the beau and shrimp bisque for me. For dessert, the share of a slice of Durant's delicious key lime pie with a double shot of espresso. We're looking forward to our next visit.
great food, tables too close. The cuts of beef were top notch
Great service Great HOT food. We love all of it. Our first time won't be our last. Happy Birthday Strawberry short cake YUM!
The only place. highly RECOMMENDED. perfect place to enjoy and celebrate.
My wife and I were there on Dec 30th for lunch, could not get a steak so I got the crab cakes, for $46 this was a terrible meal. Crab cakes had a funny taste to them. Will not be back. Three guys sitting next to us were really loud.
Special occasions only, as it's pretty pricey - but the food is superb and we love the old steakhouse ambiance. Service is subtle and excellent, as it should be.
Durant's is a classy and classic Phoenix restaurant. They always provide a marvelous experience; no wonder they've been at the same location for decades. Christmas decorations were beautiful and tastefully done. The perfect place for a celebration!
Love the history, the food, and the staff! Excellent.
I drove 350 miles to have dinner at Durants. I have been going to that restaurant for over 45 years. My whole family makes a point to visit Durants when in Phoenix Never been disappointed
Prime rib had tenderizer on it and it wasn't cook enough.... there was so noise\nand too many people. I asked for Med Well and it wasn't done. I was too hungry and \nate the meal. I will in the future send the meal back,,,, learned a lesson...
Good Food, Great Vibe but an Average Fine Dinning Restaurant.
The only reason I deducted a star from the food category was because the 16 oz. Rib Eye was not anywhere near 16oz. I believe they served the 12 oz and it was ordered Medium Rare and came very medium. The prime rib was perfect and the Shrimp Bisque was outstanding! We also received an email from Open Table stating we did not honor our reservation and we sure did.
We chose Durants for our Christmas dinner this year. We love the history of this great Phoenix restaurant. Plus the service and food are great! My husband especially like the bar. Says it feels like being in Chicago. We had a lovely evening. Thank you.
You can't beat Durant's ambiance. You feel like you are going back in time when you walk in there. The food is phenomenal.
The restaurant follows guidelines from many years ago. The menu was wonderful and they strive hard to accommodate your needs. Though dark it was fun to be in a restaurant that tended to all the little details. I had the seafood sampler and it was FABULOUS. Other in the party had steaks which they gave approval for.
A must see and experience. Great food and drink with an Old Style Ambiance.
It is a crowded scene, so not the most romantic, but a great meal, great service, and a great little slice of Arizona history.
Food and service can always be counted on to enjoy. During the holidays the decorations add to the celebrations. It has been our go to restaurant in Phoenix for 4 generations. From the greeting by the kitchen staff, hostess and waiters you feel you are in a special place and that you have a great meal to look forward to accompanied by great service. Looking forward to more celebrations at Durant's.
Durrants was very nice old time classic atmosphere. Outstanding Manhattan!! \n\nI had the prime rib, which was pretty good, but maybe not as full of rib taste as I had hoped for. It was very tender, to the point that I wondered if it had been subjected to some type of enzyme treatment.\n\nI will go back, but will have a steak not the prime rib.
Most of the group had not been there before. We all loved it. I loved the décor and the history. Impressive seeing the Prime Rib as we walked through the kitchen. Justin our waiter was great.\nWe'll be back.
Our administrative staff has come here the past two years for our annual Holiday lunch and white elephant gift exchange. The service is great, the food & drinks are awesome and the ambience is ideal! Can't wait for next year's event!
We have been going to Durant's since the late 70s and have always enjoyed it immensely! It's especially wonderful around the Holidays!
We've lived in Phoenix over 50 years. Duran'ts is one of our favorite restaurants. Entering through the back entrance is disconcerting for some, but a unique experience for most. Keep up the good work, folks!
We loved everything from the food to the service. Over the top. The quality of the food is just outstanding. Our waiters were friendly, professional and responsive! Already making plans for a return visit!
Great food and service, but be. Aware, VERY expensive.
We have made Durants our Anniversary Dinner tradition...we love the service, Rebecca is great and professional. Juan makes sure our water glass is always full with a smile. The food is exceptional and quality. Durants combines the Old days of Phoenix hob-nobbing with food that never goes out of fashion. I personally love Durants because my grandfather who was a cowboy used to go to Durants with his ranching buddies and they would see people like John Wayne...such rich history for fellow Phoenicians. Truly a gem in the desert.
I was here opening night in 1950 with my parents. It is my favorite place in this whole world and I have traveled a lot.. Their prices have escalated but the food is soooo good and the crowds are not as bad .
Red, retro, ravishing!\nOutstanding service, delicious food, a sexy glowing room filled with atmosphere from the elegant sixties. Look forward to returning!
The food and service is always good. Feels like I am back in the Midwest. The olive and garnish plate as you sit down are a nice touch. Order the steak.
Amazing service and steak. Very old school. Do not come here if you are counting calories. The wine list was very impressive and the service (Vince) was top notch.
Wonderful restaurant more than 65 years old.
The red hues in the restaurant are cool.
We had a wonderful dinner at Durants.. It was pricey but well worth it!\nI loved the décor and the ambiance was perfect! The tables are a little close, as we could hear others conversations.\nThe menu had some great choices for steak and seafood. \nWe will definetly be back!
Went here for my daughters third birthday. The waiter was great with my kids (4) he was also very knowledgeable We all ordered different items on the menu and shared some. Everything was amazing from taste to properly prepared. Will be a loyal customer for life.
A fantastic steakhouse straight out of 1950 and left unchanged. One can envision high-rollers enjoying expensive cigars and bourbon...but it's smoke-free. It is not inexpensive, and you can expect to drop $100 easily if you enjoy a cocktail and glass of wine with your dinner, but worth it.
Durant's has been an Arizona institution for 65 years. Clearly, they are doing something right.
We have never been disappointed by Durant's. Food is always great quality, staff is always attentive and we always want to return. If you like old school charm and comfy booths, Durant's is the classic steakhouse you need to visit.
The food was fabulous. Everything I've heard and more. A great place for a special occassion. I was surprised at how close the tables where to one another, but that did take away for the expericence. The service was exceptional. I will be go backing.
Outstanding 5ððððð to be sure...65th Year and still absolutely phenomenal food, service - the whole shebang is to be experienced.
I love Durants. Whether you're out to grab a drink at the bar or have a dinner date, or group dinner - this is the place. Always on top of their game, consistently delicious.
again the meat was spoiled; never happened before. I had the Durant's Debris.
As always, Durant's provided precisely the comfort needed. Always a wonderful spot to reminisce and relax.
I imagine if you're an independent old school steak house, it's tough to compete with the likes of the national chains. Durants puts up an admirable fight however and has certain charms that the boy boys don't. Overall I was mostly pleased with the experience except for some details - 1) stop with the upcharges. Granted I wanted a wedge salad over the house salad but the proportion of the wedge wasn't significant enough to justify another $5 in charges. 2) The sides were tepid at best. The twice baked, while tasty, was luke warm. With that drain some of that excess liquid off the mushrooms side (also an upcharge). No one wants a soupy mess at the bottom of a fine steak plate. \nI really do like the charm of Durants and would likely go back again but as they say, the devil is in the details. Tighten up those details to justify what your charge.
Have been dinning and Durants for 31 years. Dean was our favorite for years. She was amazing!! Wish they would go back to the old ways. Sad to see its service and attention lacking.
Always a favorite place for a business lunch. This visit was no different. The service was terrific and the shrimp and crab Louie was outstanding â there is always plenty of seafood and the Louis dressing is perfect. The only negative comment is that the prime rib was exceedingly dry. The diner who ordered this understood that the end cut would be well done. However, it was also completely dried out. He had to soak the meat in the accompanying au jus just to introduce some tenderness. A bit disappointing as I had touted the restaurant to this Durant's newbie.
Durant's never fails to impress. Extremely knowledgeable staff, polite and attentive. The food was wonderful as always. \nThank you!
We were greeted in a very friendly manner. They had an anniversary card for us. The atmosphere is so romantic and cozy! The meal was beyond delicious! At the end of the evening, they gave us a beautifully wrapped box of candies for our anniversary!
I took my bride of 22 years to Durant's for our anniversary. I grew up in Tucson and always heard about the 'great steaks' at Durant's. I am very happy to report that the steak was the best I ever ate and so was my wife's crab cakes with aioli sauce. Mark our waiter was the true definition of professional. That is the most I have ever paid for dinner and felt like I got a bargain.
I have been going to Durants for years and will continue to return based on the excellent service, fantastic steaks, and wonderful ambiance. I have been to all of the fine steak restaurants in the valley and while the food may be comparable the ambiance and the attitude is not. Nothing can beat the décor and the relaxed mood that Durant's provides. I've taken many people here and they all agree.
Would highly recommend Durant's for both quality of service and quality of food. Best steak I ever had.
Second time here and couldn't be happier. The food, drink and service are all great. Prepare to spend a lot and have a good meal!
My sister and I took my Mom to Durant's for her 90th birthday. Everyone in the kitchen gave us a warm greeting when we arrived. The hostess immediately wished my Mom a happy birthday. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The meal, as usual, was 5 star quality! Mom received a free dessert of her choice from the restaurant. It was a perfect celebration! Thanks Durant's!!
I love this restaurant....my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday...I said dinner at durants
The oysters were so fresh and the steaks so tender-our waitress Rebecca was so good-this place has the old school vibe-we will definitely be back
First and foremost this place is loaded with character. It feels like a place you would see Sinatra in the corner having a drink and a steak. The food is great, the bar is welcoming, and the staff is very helpful. \n\nThe only downside in my opinion is that it's kind of small, and can get loud. \n\nIt would also be nice if people who dined in a place like this would realize that t-shirts, cargo shorts and tennis shoes aren't appropriate attire, but the restaurant can't help that I suppose.
This is a great place to enjoy a notable occasion. Great people, food and service.
I've visited Durant's on many occasions - about 3-4 times every year. Today was the least memorable of my visits. The food was bland and under-seasoned (prime rib and an open-faced steak sandwich were the entrees, with calamari as the appetizer), service was incredibly slow (we went in about 1:30 pm, lunch rush was over and there were only a handful of tables with customers), the server was preoccupied with other activities than serving (including a phone call from a friend that she took at the bar), and my impression was that our server decided that we were not old enough to warrant her attention (I am 49 and my guest 37, but the other restaurant guests looked to be in the 55+ category). I always enjoy the food and will likely go back to Durant's, but will consider other options first. (one last note, a gentleman that I presumed was the manager made a stop at each table to see how they were doing, but somehow managed to pass our table).
We at there 3 nights in a row while attending the Europa Phoenix trade show.....it is that good!\nCorey is an outstanding server.
Excellent as always.
The best place for a nice long dinner with friends or family. Any cocktail the way you want it. Food cooked to please and the perfect adult atmosphere. Dining as it should be time after time. I live 1800 miles away and return every time I visit. All the servers have been terrific the kitchen staff always greet us when we invade their space to enter and Dave is a swell bartender !
Very excited to try this phoenix staple...food was wayyyy over priced and my meal was just not good. At all. Crab cakes were masked in some mayo sauce that wasn't edible. I had to return my dinner. Won't be going back.
Excellent 48oz steak that could be shared with on ordering medium rare and the other medium
We always look forward to Durant's being on restaurant week. The food is wonderful, we are never disappointed. They also include wine with dinner in the price as well as coffee and soda, which very few other restaurants do for restaurant week. Sometimes a little loud, but it's worth it. An AZ gem that never disappoints.
The food is always amazing and the service is great. Pretty pricey however it's our favorite place to eat for special occasions. Love Durants.
Another outstanding experience. This place really has it down to a science. Was here for a special ocassion and they handled it perfectly and professionally.
Our server Matt was very helpful, friendly, professional and attentive.\nThe food, as always, was wonderful. It is always a pleasure to dine at Durant's!
Old school swanky, this place is a valley landmark. Waitstaff is always top notch. The restaurant week deal is a great!!!!
Our dinners were great and our server, Evan, was superb!
Why is it that almost every time I go out to dine these days I am questioned about my experience. My tip indicates my pleasure and if I didn't like it I won't go back. Please don't bother me with any more questionaires, it quite spoils my day.
Durant's is a Phoenix icon, having been in the same location for 65 years. Obviously, their reputation is superb. Ambiance, service, drinks, menu all add up to a memorable event. Definitely....a Phoenix treasure!!!
Grandma used to work next door at the Playboy building and would hang out at Durant's for happy hour, in the 50's. She loved going back for her 86th birthday! Delicious, old school food with VERY high prices. I had the scallops with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli soup- $53.00. Delicious though! Calamari was so tender and tasty. The only drawback is that grandma loves chianti and they don't offer it anymore. Thank you to our amazing server Greg who treated grandma like a princess and was very kind.
I had remembered the food being better, the steak was good not great. The baked potatoe was just bad. The clam chowder was very good. Overall I was disappointed, for the money it should have been much better.
We enjoyed our 2nd visit to Durant's. The food is outstanding and the best overall value for a fine steakhouse type restaurant. \n\nThe staff especially Patrick was superb and very attentive! Hats off to the Manager Chris! They are a wonderful group. Again we enjoyed our meal. We will be back.
I have been coming here to over 20 years. Sometimes we forget about this little gem. It is always a pleasure to eat at Durants. They are know for the meat, but they have the best crab cakes in town. Try the appetizer version.
I have dined at Durant's hundred's of times over the years. I have never been disappointed. The food, the service the 'New York' ambience is quality. I hope to be around to return for a hundred more times. Matthew was a top notch table attendant.
The food and service is great. I recommend this restaurant to any one looking for great steaks and fish. Evan, our server, is was so friendly and helpful\nI know Durant`s has many customers but for the time we were there, we were treated like the only ones there. My wife and I will make this a once a month treat for us. We`re worth it !
We visited Durants last Friday to celebrate my moms 85th birthday. This has become a tradition for the last five years or so. We have always had a great experience, but this time something had changed drastically. While service was good, the food definitely has gone downhill. It wasn't just one of our meals, but all four of us had a meal that was just not up to their usual high standards. I'm hoping this was just a bad night as this has been one of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix.
I've been going to Durant's since I was 9 and it is always as fabulous as I remember from that first visit. We don't live in Phoenix anymore, but every time I'm home to visit we make a point of stopping by!
The reason I gave 3 stars for the food is because after we were home my wife said the lobster for $72.oo was over cooked and tuff. There were 4 of us and the other 3 meals were fabulous. I told my wife that you order steak in a steak house until she reminded me of the cost and agree. Thank you for a great night otherwise.
We made reservations for a group of 8 at lunch following a ceremony downtown. We were running a bit late and the restaurant called just to confirm we were still coming. They could have just said 'too bad', you were 20 minutes late - they didnt! Lorenzo was our server and he was great, with immaculate service. We could not have asked for better food, better service or a better experience. We will definitely be back!
What a classic! Cannot be the environment and ambiance. Great service and food to die for.
A Phoenix landmark/institution that has consistently maintained it's top notch reputation for all of these years. No, I don't go there often. But my parents have been going to Durant's for special occasions since the 50s. They didn't disappoint for my dad's 90th birthday yesterday. Everyone, and I mean everyone was friendly and cordial as we were not only acknowledged and greeted by the host and wait staff but also by the chefs and their staff in the kitchen as we walked through into the restaurant. In addition, our waiter was most attentive without being overbearing. A delicate balance that is not easy to achieve and maintain and yet he did it effortlessly. And the food... Excellent!
We visited Durants for my husbands birthday. I requested a quiet booth and when we arrived our table was ready and perfect. The food was prepared perfectly, our server was excellent. We will definitely make Durants a tradition!
Great food and ambiance. Waiters, waitresses and staff are always friendly. Love going at lunch for a yummy meal to break up the work day.
Great service from the hostess, to the server, to the bus boy. Food good but not reflective of the price. The atmosphere and history made up for the extra cost.
We come here for every anniversary and birthday! It is our favorite restaurant. From the food, the service, the ambience, the bar and to the back entrance through the kitchen being greeted by the kitchen staff as you walk through...you feel as though you are stepping back in time to the amazing classic tradition that restaurants used to be. Order a Manhattan or martini at the bar before dinner to enhance the effect. My 24 year old daughter says it reminds her of the show mad men. Our number 1 favorite restaurant. Thank you for never changing your wonderful service and classic style.
it was are tenth aniversary and our old joint had closes so on a whim we picked durants and we hit the jackpot. the food was incredible, the service was first rate and we were treated like royalty. we will be back.
Always have a good review for Durant's! Never been disappointed. Professional staff and consistently good food.
Great food, attentive service staff .... Feels like a throwback to the fifties with red tuck&roll upholstery and subtle lighting ... They mentioned our 20th anniversary as soon as we arrived and seated us at a booth that I requested
I was invited to Durrant's during my first visit to Phoenix and was told that it was THE steak place in the city. The experience and the meal were superb. They tout their perfect martini and that it was. The prime rib was delicious, the wine list extensive, and the service, exquisite. Ask to be seated with Lorenzo; he is a gem.
The steak was superb, the service awesome, but teribly desapointed in a coctail I ordered! Pina colada had NO ALCOHOL in it!!! Mix and ice only, made me sick that night and was sick the entire next day testing the (margarita?) mix! I should return the drink right from the start as it did not taste right.... I had many Pina Coladas in the past, so I know!
AWESOME!!! BEST IN ALL OF ARIZONA!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad we arrived when they opened, the placed filled up quickly. The wait staff is great but the food was average. Prime Rib was dry and the Filet and Lobster were just OK.
My family and I decided to give Durant another try and we shouldn't have. Pricey for what you receive noisy, staff needs updating. We where the first party to be seated where they opened. We had a reservation and we where seated adjacent to the bar.. Noisy, people on top of the table poor service . I travel often and enjoy a good steakhouse but Durant's needs to take a page out of their competition's playbook. A fine steakhouse should be lively but have quite if that's what is desired . I think if I'm spending at least $100.00 a head some ambiance should accompany the experience.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding annerversary at Durant's. The food, service, and atmosphere was excellent !! The prime rib was cooked perfectly!! Really enjoyed our dining experience.
Excellent food with excellent service from Ron. He was very attentive and professional.
Everything was great except the parking was packed. I have been there many times but never seen anything like it. It was full and people were parking in the aisles. This needs to be fixed.
Years ago I use to work across the street from Durants. We would go there all the time. I have not been there in 15 years. We chose Durants for our anniversary. I was just as I remembered... fantastic. My wife, her first time, loved everything about it. I miss the tableside Ceaser salad but all in all a wonderful time. God bless Jack Durant. My wife wanted to try this place for her birthday. Although it was a little pricey (which we expected) we did have a wonderful meal. The amount of food in proportion to the price was reasonable for this type of restaurant. The wine list was also more than adequate. The service was excellent, quick and professional; they even added a little surprise dessert for my wife. The ambience is not great, and I would not recommend the place for families with young children. The dress code is very causal; (no short or T-shirts) but one does not require a coat or/and tie. The restaurant is very close to the light rail station, with parking be very easy. We will be back, but only for special occasions.
Wonderful service, food and experience!
Good steak dinner. Manhattan Clam Chowder (soup of the day) was tasty. Unique entry from back parking lot through the kitchen!
We have loved Durant's for years but have noticed a recent and steady decline. Our waiter was surly and slow...truly obnoxious. The food wasn't up to par and while I would still recommend Durant's, I'm very concerned about what I'm seeing. No more relish tray and had to ask repeatedly for bread.
Nice food. Pleasant and efficient server. Fabulous assistants (coffee, water, etc. refills).
Durant's was our choice to celebrate a co-workers birthday. The food, the service the staff everything was perfect. It was a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We will be back.
Local classic restaurant that delivered on service and ambience but undelivered on the over priced food. We went, now can cross it off the list.
Durant's used to be a regular stop in my 'Business Attire' years. Went back for nostalgia. It did not disappoint.
Was in Phoenix for business. Found Durant's on Yelp and researched. Loved the story and history so I booked a business lunch. There's a fine line between keeping your historical ambiance and being outdated. Durant's is outdated. First, the service was very good with a friendly server and team. Best part of the lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant is very dark which made the environment seem strange for lunch and uncomfortable for business. If it was dinner at 8 pm on Saturday night, not so much, but for a mid- week lunch, it was depressing. The food was pricey and just ok. Garlic bread must have been marinated for 5 hours in garlic and oil. Over the top. Two of us had sandwiches and third had the special and one app ordered. Total tab for 3 people + tip was over $100. I don't mind spending this for lunch but my expectations for every aspect of the meal increase at this price point. Durant's is competing with all the restaurants in Biltmore/Scottsdale/Pleasant Valley but staying on par, unfortunately. Time for them to re-evaluate. People love history and the story but don't want to actually feel stuck in 1970. Thanks.
The food was fantastic and our wait staff was excellent. Great restaurant with lots of history.
My husband took me here for our 3 year anniversary. It had amazing service. Loved how we were able to thank the cooks on our way out. The best steak I have ever had!!!
Very disappointed as $50.00 steak over cooked. Sent back to kitchen, took 18 minutes to be re-served.Only apology from waiter, no credit or voucher to return. Would NOT recommend. Sorry
We enjoyed prime rib dinner and food and service was great
Durant's has always been a special place to me. Visited for my 71st birthday. We asked for a quiet, romantic table for two. To our disappointment we were seated directly across from 5 woman and two men. They had come from the bar area so they already had a few drinks in them. They were extremely loud causing us to be very disappointed with our table and special evening. I did complain afterwards and was told 'you ought to be here when it is really crowded'. However, if you are not going for a romantic dinner you certainly will not be disappointed with their food. It is the best of the best. You can't go wrong with prime rib and my hubby had the rib eye steak. Cooked exactly as ordered. A half order of onion rings were ordered - OMG are they good. It is fairly expensive, but worth every penny of it. Our waitress, Rebecca was wonderful. She was attentive, professional and had a pleasant personality. Staff volunteered to take pics of us and the manager also came out and wished me a happy birthday. Wonderful little extra touches. All in all we will certainly go back. Arriving on a Tuesday at 4:30 pm we had hoped for a quieter experience, but that will not deter us from returning - just will not expect a quiet romantic evening.
The steak was alright, the bread however was delicious
I must be missing something on this but I ordered chicken piccata it came in a think tasteless white cream sauce over chicken breast...not pounded thin but served as a chicken breast. very disappointed. Also wine bottles being knocked over by servers at other tables close by and people dropping their drinks crashing to the floor not a good experience and will not be back.
This has been one of my dad's favorite places so I brought him there for a special Father's Day lunch. The food was good, the ambiance perfect. Just as he remembered.
I was at Durants many years ago and remember the food to be very good so I was excited when my husband told me he was taking me there.\nOur waiter and the bar staff were excellent.\nThe table was good \nwe were taken very promptly after our arrival at 8 as our reservation was for 8\nThe salad was average not exciting at all.rather bland.\nThe steak was cooked well but I did not like the fries which were not fries at all.\nThe strawberry shortcake was ok\nIt all left me rather disappointed .\nFor the price I expected better quality\nSo we will not be recommending it or returning.
great service drinks were good, we made reservations and durants had it on the books we were seatedright away
Been going to Durant's off and on for 25 years.\nDisappointed in the prices. $70 for a steak and 3 scallops? $55 for a NY Strip? \nLove the atmosphere, drinks, valet, but won't be returning due to extreme pricing...
As a recent transplant to Phoenix, I had stumbled across this place for lunch one day with a friend. Vowing to go back and explore the menu a bit more, I walked away completely satisfied. The food receives top marks from me, the service outstanding and the place is just what I think a steakhouse should be. I love the vintage decor and feel. We had a party of 6 and everyone was just as satisfied. One member from the group even mentioned the meal and experience again a few hours after we had left. Excellent!
Wonderful evening... Thanks!!!
It was a little louder this time than before, but nothing my family and I couldn't handle. Also, the service is always great. Thank you!
All the guides call this a 'classic old-school steak house'. Whenever you see 'classic' in the description, kiss your wallet goodbye. On the other hand, this was the best steak and scallops I've ever eaten! A perfectly cooked 2-inch thick filet you could literally cut with a fork, as I did a few times. $300 for dinner for two is definitely high, but was it worth it?....I'm going to have to say, 'Yes!' I just can't get it out of my mind. Dark wood, red leather booths, impeccable service and a relish tray--what more could you ask for?
Crab cake, shrimp cocktail, steak and strawberry daiquiris were outstanding! The house martini not so much, too bitter for my taste. Also, the scallops were a little grainy, they could have been rinsed a little more but they were cooked very well and with the exception of a little sand, they were quite delicious. The atmosphere was vibrant and the staff were all friendly and attentive. We had a lovely time and finished with a rich piece of chocolate indulgence cake.
This is a fantastic steakhouse. The steaks were incredible and the wine list extensive. I enjoyed all my food and the ambiance was classic. Can't wait to return.
We have gone to other places for our anniversary, but keep coming back to Durants after mediocre experiences elsewhere.
This place is one of a kind. It is such an impeccable experience from the moment you walk into the front door and enter the restaraunt (through the kitchen!! Which is awesome!!) \n\nThe decor is wonderful and the tables are so comfortable and personal. The food is stellar!! The steak and scallops had to be the best I have ever tasted. \n\nAlso, this place is so incredibly kid friendly for a restaurant of its caliber!!! \nThe waiter was attentitive and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and even brought our 2 year old some extra little snacks prior to the entree. We weren't treated any differently or judged for having our small son, which I've experienced before with the fancier restaurants. They are family friendly. \n\nThe restaurant itself made my husband's birthday so so special with complimentary desserts and just the finest service and experience. We were seriously treated like royalty. They take special occasions seriously here at Durants! \n\nI would eat here again in a heartbeat.
Durant's continues to be a top choice for a very fine meal for anyone in or near Phoenix. I have ate there many many times and have NEVER been disappointed with the food or service.
There is simply no better restaurant in the Valley of the Sun.
I would have given this restaurant a 5 star rating however the dessert of blueberry cobbler was a disappointment. Thus, 4 stars given.
Durant's is a classic steak house with a difference. The menu is complete, but the extra's make it special. From the rear 'through the kitchen' entrance, the highly decorated, comfortable ambience, to the salad and soaked bread on the table, to the very attentive service, Durant's will be a memorable meal. This is a restaurant that will take extra steps to please its customers. Don't leave Phoenix without a visit to Durant's. This place is a WOW.
If you can't enjoy your experience here, then you must hate puppies and babies and fresh air and walks on the beach.\n\nThe food is fabulous, the service is stupendous, the wine list is wondrous and the desert is delightful.\n\nWe make this a must go to dinner every time we are in town.
For the prices it should be above avg. the experience should be above avg to match the prices.
on a recc. from the hotel, I entertained a group of business contacts here, and they loved it. Great business atmosphere to work a deal.
Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Place was a bit pricey, however, you only have so many special occasions to celebrate...do it right!
What I remember most was our server. He was so pleasant and efficient. Our food was great, as well. I wish I could remember our server's name, as he deserves the recognition.\n\nThe only bummer was that I wanted to get the french dip, and was told that I could only get it at lunchtime. I know in the past, it was available at dinner.\n\nGreat food, great night, great service!~\nThank you, Durants
This was our second visit to Durant's in the last six weeks. Initially, this time we were disappointed because our group o f six was seated at a table in the bar area which was very loud and lacked the ambience of what we had told our guests about Durant's. We didn't think that a reservation made weeks ago would put us there. However, upon our request, they graciously moved us to the quiet dining room booth where we had a wonderful and enjoyable meal.
Lovingly preserved since 1950...the classic steakhouse experience doesn't really need changing, so Durant's hasn't. Top quality food (one of the tastiest steaks I've had) and service.
One of the Valley's finest. Rivals New York City's best. Reminiscent of Ernie's in San Francisco.
