Great food. Very good wine selection (just wish they had the Neal Family Cabernet besides the Zin). Weather was perfect for alfresco dining but they only had bench seating outdoors.

Once again Octotillo provides a great spot for lunch . We sat in the Beer Garden section. Service was good, food as always, excellent. The Japanese fish and chips is my favorite. We always plan to arrive early so we can sit on the couches next to Lucy's Lawn. The coffee bar opens early, by 7. Breakfast sandwiches and muffins, fresh from the oven. Only problem for first timers is finding it! Look for the big China Chili's sign next door!!!\nJh

The environment at Ocotillo is always vibrant and comfortable. The modern, urban architecture is sublime, and the large outdoor seating areas with fire pits and an additional bar provide great areas for large groups.\n\nThe food on this visit had some lovely surprises, as the menu changes seasonally. The bruleed cheese appetizer with plums and pecans was out-of-this-world! A complete 'wow'. The ribs floating around the room were completely ENORMOUS, and everyone seemed to be enjoying them. The campanelle pasta with veggies and cream sauce was delicious...but left me missing the summer shrimp pasta (do NOT miss that when it's available).\n\nThe restaurant really slows down around 10:30, without much of a stay and linger vibe. So great for dinner, but go somewhere else to reboot and hang out late.

This is the 4th time we visited this restaurant and each time has been great. We started with a number of small plates including the fantastic cauliflower, carrot fatoosh salad and the pork belly skewers. They were all really good and a surprise to our friends who were there for the first time. We followed these with bigger plates including the amazing rabbit tagliatelle and the whole branzino. We were all stuffed and satisfied.\nIt was great to have the manager and marketing person stop by and really engage in conversations with us. One word of caution - the main dining room can get a bit noisy so if you are looking for a quiet, intimate dinner ask for a different area.\nOur waitress was accommodating and very friendly.\nWe expect to return often!

The food was excellent, however service was very much lacking at our table.\n\nWe arrived about 5 minute early from our reservation time, and when told it would be a few minutes we figured we'd grab a drink at the bar while waiting. I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that things were simply busy (it was a Friday night around 8:00PM). 30 minutes later, we finally were notified that our table was ready, and brought to our table. The dining area we were in, was shared with several different wait staff, however it took another 20-30 minutes for our server to come to our table and offer us other drinks, and take our orders. We didn't see our server but 3 times the entire evening, and our water glasses were finally filled by another member of the staff. \n\nThe food was absolutely delicious, and wonderfully prepared! I would have loved to give Ocotillo a 5 star rating, however the service issue really needs to be addressed for me to be able to do so.

I love this place. The servers are fun and very accommodating, the food is so yummy and different enough to be interesting without being a long list of stuff you can't identify, everything is perfectly prepared and fresh. Plus I like the style and the feel which is casual but respectable, industrial but warm. One of my faves.

Great atmosphere and unique flavor profiles. The service needs help though. The first time I went, the server spilled a drink on my friend and never brought her a towel, instead she just started cleaning the table next to us. I took my family to Ocotillo for my little sister's birthday. Our plan was to share a bunch of small plates to start and then each have an entree. I'm happy to say that plan fell through because the portions are so big! Coming from a family of 5 hungry Latinos, I think this says a lot. We shared the goat cheese salad, wings, pork skewers, and grilled octopus. All very good. We also ended up sharing a pasta entree and the Ocotillo chicken because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs at the time. The pasta was great. The ocotillo chicken is a staple. In my opinion, the sauce was too sweet. If you like sweet on your savory chicken, go for it. If not, I recommend you don't and try something else. I definitely would come back to ocotillo. I highly recommend either sharing plates, or choosing an entree. P.S. the cocktails were strong too.

We were visiting from out of town, in business but having a date for fun. Ambience a little bright and utilitarian, and art work didn't do justice to the beautiful space, in our opinion. Dinner was great, until the end. We were enjoying the company of our friends when the server came by and whispered in the ear of my friend 'I have another reservation for this table in ten minutes.' We were appalled! I've eaten at a lot of restaurants and I've never had this happen. Never going back again! I've been a semi-regular customer for the past year or so, going to brunch or dinner at Ocotillo every several weeks. While the food is innovative and generally excellent, the service (which has never been what I would call speedy) is unacceptable (at least it was at our last outing). We weren't even acknowledged by our server for 15 minutes, after which the busser brought us water. Then we waited for another 15 minutes for our server to come take our drink order. Long story short, when she came to present the check to us (which we had to ask the hostess for), she had the temerity to wonder what the matter was. When we told her that she was no where to be found when we needed something and took quite a while in bringing it to us, her reply was 'I'm sorry you feel that way'. \n\nThis establishment has gone from being a trendy new restaurant with an innovative menu and a relaxed atmosphere to one that is 'tragically hip' with servers who (at least in this case) act like they're doing YOU a favor by serving you. Ocotillo should realize that even though the food is excellent, it's not excellent enough to make up for the extremely poor service.\n\nThe only saving grace here is that I didn't book reservations for a dinner for 25 I'll be hosting.

Great joint. Trendy, hipster, post-modern vibe. Food was creative and well executed. Service was excellent - attentive enough but left us alone enough, too. Dahl was the winner, by far. Japanese fish and chips was also very good. Small plates are easily a full lunch portion. When the place filled up with people, it was actually pretty difficult to have a conversation (just below a full on bar rumble), but with a few tables emptied, the noise died down a lot. During that time, the larger dinner items are not available until 5:30pm. This is not indicated on their website. We read about Ocotillo in a magazine in our hotel and expected to have a great experience, as it was highly rated. It was very busy and loud, and a server did not come to our table for 10 or 15 minutes, after we asked the serving waiting on the table next to ours for assistance. When our server arrived a few minutes later, he was apologetic, but seemingly overwhelmed by the work. We placed an order for an appetizer, salad, and entree. It took an unusually long time to arrive, and when it did, everything came at once...the appetizer, salad and the entree!!! It was not the enjoyable experience we had hoped to have.

We were in town for a party and discovered Ocotillo because it had been named top newcomer by Phoenix New Times. Also seemed to be in a part of downtown that is coming up. Definitely interesting mix of people--old and young, black and white. Nice covered outdoor dining patio and firepit. We ate at the bar, close to the busy kitchen. Initially, service was terrible--which is saying something, since we were sitting in front of several bartenders. But they seemed busy with restaurant orders and paid us almost zero mind. The bartender who did finally check in with us knew nothing about the food or the wines, and asked a female colleague for help. She thankfully took over service. She (wish I could remember her name!) was fantastic and saved the whole experience. She clearly was hospitality-oriented, knew the food and drink and made some great recommendations. We had a wood-grilled squash appetizer with harissa that was savory and sweet with a tiny bit of bite. Excellent. Also a homemade pasta with brussels sprouts, wild mushrooms and a leek cream sauce that was rich without being cloying. The brussels sprouts were a delightful surprise. The menu has plenty to satisfy eaters of all stripes--vegetarian, vegan, meat-lovers and pasta lovers.

I made our reservation two and half weeks ahead of time, right after our first time to eat here, for New Years Eve. There were six of us and the host put us at a community table, when there were a lot of other tables inside that were empty. When I told him that we didn't want to sit there, he wasn't very nice about it and put us at a table on the patio. That would have been fine, but he put us on the patio that wasn't covered and we got rained on occasionally, when there was room on the covered patio. With all of that being said, the food and wait staff were excellent. I highly recommend Ocotillo.

We heard about Ocotillo from the 2016 Best New Restaurants in Phoenix Magazine and wanted to try it out for our anniversary weekend. The ambiance is great with the wood burning fire pits as you walk in from the back parking lot. We asked to be seated outside as it was less noisy on the patio. Our waitperson was very knowledgeable about the menu, but wasn't as attentive to our table, there were long waits for our drink order and our bill. The food was delicious. We had to have the cauliflower for a starter since supposedly that is their signature item on the menu. We also had the crispy chicken meatballs, wood fired beef ribs, and grilled ginger steak. We were not disappointed with any of our choices. The beef ribs were meaty, plentiful, and falling off the bone. The mole BBQ sauce was especially pleasing. The steak was cooked to perfection and the ginger sauce was just right. We would definitely come here again, but sit inside to get better service.

We focused on the salads and vegetables with one in our party trying the baked lumache pasta, with roasted butterkin squash, goat cheese and greens. It was absolutely delightful and savory. Can't wait to eat here again! Lovely and well-crafted cocktails; fun, cute and capable service, and drop-dead-delicious food. The table next to us was so in love with their cauliflower that they insisted we had to taste it - and they were right: incredibly tasty, spicy, vinegar-y, with a hint of a sweet note at the end. Yum! Peruvian salmon ceviche was incredible; as was the tomato/burrata salad. Friends got the seafood salad which they loved and looked amazing, also the sweet potato dish.\nTruly excellent and interesting; I suggest getting a bunch of things and sharing. Remarkably inexpensive for this level of quality. \nNote: this is one noisy place; outside on one of the patios may be preferable for chatting.

My wife and I have been to Ocotillo a few times and each time there's been something slightly negative that chips away at our experience. In all fairness, we have enjoyed the food but the service and the atmosphere has continued to free fall off of a cliff. Whether it's the restaurant's lackluster service, or being seated at a table where the afternoon sun will burn your retinas when there's an available shaded table in the same section or the awful acoustics while trying to have a relaxing dinner - there's always something off. This evening was no exception. Tonight, we were treated (for the last time, most likely) to a swarm of flies during our entire dinner; some crawling on the wall behind us, a few hovering over our food, a few brave ones daring enough to land on our table and one pesky guy hanging out on the cushion next to us while we ate waiting for a crumb to drop. It was so bad that one of the servers was stalking the restaurant with a fly zapping gadget that resembled a small tennis racket that made an annoying buzzing sound every time he smashed it against the window to kill a fly (which, most of the time, he was unsuccessful in). It was bad enough to have the flies zooming around our head, in and out of our entrees but to also have to see (and hear them) being killed while we ate was utterly disgusting.\n\nAstonishingly, when we brought this to the attention of our waitress, she casually dismissed the reality of the situation without offering any kind of solution. It would have been one thing to address the problem and for the restaurant to offer some small token of apology or embarrassment over the situation or even a free dessert to go so we could enjoy it in our non-fly-infested home... anything!\n\n**We posted this review on Yelp! and the GM was kind enough to respond acknowledging the problem. The food is great but we probably won't be going back any time soon.

First, and most importantly, the service was amazing. Our server, Milay (I'm sure I spelled it wrong, sorry...) was patient and accommodating. Professional and friendly. When there were some issues with the food and beverages, she sincerely apologized (not that it was her fault) and made it right. I've always had good experiences in the past at Ocotillo but she single-handedly salvaged this one. My three dining partners loved their food and once mine was fixed (first time came out cold), I was very happy as usual.

Very much a foodie place with menu changes about every 8 weeks or so according to the waitress. Unique dishes or twists on plates that were done quite well. VERY well stocked spirits, excellent wine list and cocktails were very good. The outdoor dining/patio bar is VERY nice as is the modern indoor decor. Pricing is not for the faint of heart.. not outrageous mind you but if you have a good glass of wine (or two) or a cocktail, a shared app, a couple large plates and a shared salad, you'd be looking at a triple digit meal for two that I think is well worth it but this certainly isn't everyday casual dining if you tend to eat out 1-3 times a week. Overall, I'll be back with some friends and a visit every now and then now that I've discovered this little gem of a place.

The restaurant atmosphere is outstanding - the outdoor area is where you want to sit. We were with a group and sat in the corner inside, which was pretty noisy, but still a fun, energetic vibe. The food was fantastic, however the service was very slow and too casual for the level of food and price point that the menu offered. Server was friendly, but came around rarely and our water glasses sat empty throughout the meal a few times. I think a dressier uniform would make a difference in the overall experience. It was odd to see t shirts and jeans with a check average of $50+ per person. With just a few tweaks, this restaurant would be five stars across the board, in my opinion.

This was my first visit to the restaurant. I didn't realize when making my reservation to include in the instructions to 'seat inside'. When I got there, They took me to an outside picnic table. It was 60 degrees out and they had no heat lamps. I talked to the hostess who said it's first come first serve......but I made a reservation. I opted to wait an additional 30 minutes for the next indoor table to come available. After looking at the menu, it was difficult to find anything on there that I would or could eat - half of the items I had to Google, only to find out it was something I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.

Table for 6 on Friday night - perfect, parking - lot and neighborhood streets,\nEngaging host & hostess - are table wasn't ready, showed me which one, pointed out the bar, and he kept me informed (about 15 minutes). Server Christina was knowledgeable and chirpy which we loved because we were chirpy and loud. We ordered the cauliflower and zucchini appetizers - although the cauli had its typical smell, it was roasted deliciousness (could have eaten all by my self. Zucchini was fried (at least its a vegetable), with a small dollop of fresh cheese. Dinner plates of Ocotillo chicken; can't go wrong with this moist dish, plus cold potato salad which had a nice tangy taste. Another had the shrimp (no go for me - don't like the heads on the shrimp). He said it was okay. check out their menu, lots of various items \nAlthough we didn't eat much the atmosphere was new and vibrant, our server funny and engaging. We'll definitely be back! Two of us dined here last night and were not particularly impressed with either the service or the meal. Service was okay; the server wasn't as friendly or helpful as I would have expected. One of us asked about substituting another item for the french fries that was included in the beef rib dinner and she said no, there were no substitutions for the fries. So, we both ordered the Mahi Mahi dish and were surprised that the warm fish filet was placed on top of cold carrot salad and tabouleh. Not that it was bad, but we both would have preferred a warm meal, already having split a cold salad prior to the entree. Timing on the arrival of the entrees wasn't particularly good either as we were both still eating the salad when the entrees arrived. Then we had a wait a while before our empty glasses of tea and a soft drink were replenished. The server didn't seem very interested in checking to see how we liked our meal, as she never asked how things were. She also didn't ask if we'd like dessert. Seems she just wanted to turn the table and get us out of there. No plans to re-visit any time soon.

I ate lunch here last Thursday afternoon, busy but not slammed . I ordered a beet salad to start, glass wine, and salmon entree. Ten minutes no wine . It finally arrives . Two minutes later the salmon entree arrives. What happened to the beets? The server advises me the appetizer cook is very busy 'at least you got food!' Five minutes later beets arrive --I send it back , no point now. The manager sees the dish heading back to the kitchen, talks to the server, does not come to the table to appologise . I ask for my check and the manager eventually comes to clear the table but does not introduce himself or appologise. I ask him if he is the manager , he says yes, I tell him how bad the kitchen service is and all he offers is ' well they are in different places .' With a comment like that now I understand why the server told me I was lucky to get food. Poor management and awful kitchen service combined--too many good restaurants in town to settle for this.

I generally don't venture into Phoenix for dinner but a friend suggested Ocotillo and I was pleasantly surprised. The service was spot on. The owner was present and generously offered suggestions on wine. The food was amazing. The 'small' plates aren't really small. The grilled octopus was top notch as were the sweet potatoes and long green beans. I will definitely go back and soon.

This is my third visit and there will be many more. Our brunch was delicious. I had the brisket. It was fork tender and perfectly seasoned with creamy polenta-yum! My fellow diners , (one is very picky and critical), enjoyed the pork belly, which was proclaimed as, ' the best ever' and the Brunch Burger, that was actually medium as requested and tasty. Our server, was attentive but not hovering. Great job, Ocotillo!

I enjoyed the handcrafted cocktail made with Pipps and ginger syrup. I ordered the Ocotillo chicken which was wonderful! I would order that again. The whole menu is unique, but a bit pricey... especially their small plates. Outside seating is at picnic tables so you may be seated with another party at the other end. The outside tables are under cover and the noise level increased as more people were seated. There is a patio area with couches and what looked like a fire pit. No one was serving out there, but we just sat out there after our meal for a quiet conversation.

Our first visit to Ocotillo was a fun and vibrant place to spend our Sunday morning with the family. I ordered a specialty iced coffee and they didn't have the (boba?) so I was a little disappointed. The nutella flavored coffee did taste good. Portions were large and everyone enjoyed their food. It was nice sittling outside afterwards and enjoying the beautiful Arizona April day. I would come back again and possibly try having dinner here. I liked that reservations are accepted.

We love this restaurant and have been a few times. The one thing to know when you make a reservation is to be sure and request a low top table if you do not want to be placed at the end of a community table. I was surprised they tried to seat us there when we had made a reservation several days in advance. We were told unless you are specific when making a reservation they use the shared tables even for reservations. We waited a few minutes for another table to clear...the food is always worth the wait.

Ocotillo is an interesting, attractive industrial-looking complex, very well done.\nLunches of gazpacho and Japanese fried fish were also interesting; the gazpacho was beautifully prepared, but very small as a main dish lunch serving. My companion said the fried fish was 'so-so' and she left most of it. The sandwiches ordered at tables on both sides of us were enormous and looked delicious. The noise level was so high that we had to nearly shout to one another to be heard; others shouting for the same reason made the cacophony pretty horrid.\nOur server was Janie. She was excellent.\nWe won't be returning.

I checked that I would recommend Ocotillo because previously I've had good experiences here in the past. But I took 3 friends who've never been, and our service was so horrible that it will take me a while to return. Our waiter brought out the entrees before salads and expressed surprise when we said we wanted the salads first. He said we hadn't asked for that and declined to take the entrees back. He forgot one diner's entree completely and when several minutes went by, we asked about it. He said it would be right out but then went to a computer and appeared to order it. It did not come out until the others were finished. There were many other examples of poor service but I want to mention one thing that I think is the restaurant's practice: They give small pours on martinis. With a regular 'up' glass, they fill it about 3/4 of the way. One of my guests asked for it to be filled to the top, and we were charged extra. In fact, we were charged for too many extras but by the time the bill came, I was tired of complaining and let it go.

I want Ocotillo to succeed. I love it's look and feel and I've had some good meals there. But I've also had some very uneven experiences. This week, the arugala salad that I've had several times before bore no resemblance to the others I've had. It was mostly endive, large bunches of it, with grapefruit, olive, feta and chicken that obviously was left over from a previous meal (barbecued on one side). A few times ago, the service was terrible. Their alcohol pours are always skimpy. I'm going to stay away for a while, but hope it improves.

Food was in about average at best, which for Ocotillo is just unbeleivable to us. You guys are always a home run, one of our favorite places in Phoenix. We had guests in from out of town and were talking up how amazing your food is only to be disappointed. One couple ordered 2 Falafel Burgers which are typically amazing, but on that night were under cooked and didn't have the same sauce that they typically come with on the lunch menu. Another ordered the Ocotillo Chicken but instead they brought out the wings so we had to wait for her order to go through again. Another couple ordered the Pork Shank but then were told later that Ocotillo was out of the Pork Shank and recommended the Beef Ribs which were pretty tasteless. We also ordered 2 Sazerac cocktails but where told later that they were out of it and to order another drink but then told that indeed they do have the Sazerac. Overall the process of just trying to get a drink took way too long.

We were very happy when we arrived as we were seated promptly at a nice table indoors. As the evening progressed, the service diminished and the noise level increased to where it was impossible to talk. We had to search for someone just to get a glass of water. The food was tasty and the wine was good. But, overall the experience was just okay. We spoke with the owner about the noise and he said that they are planning to make some changes to help reduce the racket.

Food was pretty good.......not 'wow' outstanding, but above average. Service was poor. Booked six of us for our friend's birthday (put that in reservation notes). They seat us at a community table right next to the open kitchen (one table between the bar and kitchen). It was so loud from the kitchen and music from the bar area that we couldn't even hear each other talk. Requested they move us outside to the patio area where there were several large tables (as I recall three of them empty). Of course, they seat us again at a community table with four other people while the other empty tables remained empty (one with a reserved sign.... that remained empty our entire stay)…. ridiculous and unimpressed with service level. Then we get a useless server (his name will remain undisclosed) who had this condescending attitude (earth to waiter…..you’re a waiter and not the chancellor of Germany). We ordered drinks, had to flag him down to order, had to flag him down to refill water and I mentioned he might want to ask the other guests if they wanted another drink (he didn’t), once food arrived (delivered by other serves) he never once came by the table again to inquire how our meal was, if we needed anything, we were out of drinks, water, etc, etc, etc. I literally had to go to outside bar and wait for the server to show up at the register to request the bill and pay. We decided not to order dessert there and headed to Hillstone where service is expected and delivered each and every time.\n\nSuffice it to say (write), I am a seasoned diner and I don’t know what vibe you are going for at Ocotillo (younger crowd, boozers, farm to table, etc, etc) but you have to have service or you are going nowhere. Quite disappointing

I had dinner with a friend prior to seeing a play downtown. I'd been wanting to try Ocotillo forever, given all of the stellar reviews it's gotten. I started with some sort of gin and tonic specialty drink. It was gigantic. After all of the food I ate, I couldn't even finish it, but I appreciated the generous size! For apps, we shared the fried mozzarella and the chicken meatballs. The meatballs were a little dry. The mozzarella was tasty, but it's hard to go wrong with fried cheese. Then we shared two pasta dishes-- the baked pasta and one with mushrooms and spinach. The baked pasta was rich and filling, basically fancy mac 'n' cheese, which I love. I didn't love the other pasta, but it was alright. My friend liked it more than I. My favorite thing was the outdoor seating there, of which, there is a ton. It was too hot for us to sit outside, but I'm looking forward to coming back in for brunch once the weather gets a little cooler! Overall, I think I was expecting better, but I enjoyed my experience and my meal.

Amazing menu items. We just didnt fell like wee were valued by our waitress. Her personality was dry and her aura was neither here or there. She could care less if we enjoyed the meal, or the drinks. When asked how long will it take for one of the drinks ordered she replied 'The bar is backed up and it should be out soon' If we didn't ask, the waitress wouldn't have given us the status of the order and she would have just brought the drink over without any form of communication. So instead of being short with your guest, she should have given us the information as a waitress beforehand. No need to be short and snappy when asked by guest about the status of one of their orders. The bar may have been backed up which is understandable, but soft people skills are keen in the restaurant industry.

I was really looking forward to going to Ocotillo since I had read about it and heard great things. I figured it would be the perfect place to take my mom for Easter brunch. The restaurant wasn't very crowded when we arrived around 11:30, and the hostess seated us on the patio at a table partially in the sun. I asked if it was possible to be moved to a shady table but the hostess responded saying there were 200 reservations that day and all tables were reserved. Another table was seated nearby soon after and the hostess offered to move them to a table in the shade, right after telling me we couldn't be. The waitress took 10 minutes to even say hello, and she had a bit of an attitude as we ordered our food and wanted to be sure that a dairy allergy was recognized for one of our meals. Luckily the food was excellent, but everything else made for an unpleasant experience. As we were leaving, I took note that only 2 other patio tables had been occupied during our brunch, which means we could have been moved to a shady table as I had originally requested. Unfortunately we will not be visiting Ocotillo again due to our experience, and I will not recommend to friends and family, as I cannot insure that their experience will be better than mine.

We followed with the asparagus appetizer which was too bland with two many textures to make it\ninteresting and tasty. The creste de gallo pasta was good, however the crispy chicken meatballs\nwere very dry. Our appetizer dishes sat for over 15 minutes and the waiter Milan was always\nMIA. This was one of our absolute favorite dining experiences.(after 35 years of meals out!!) Loved the feel of the space when we walked in. Staff super cool and friendly and our server timed the food perfectly! And the food!!! Every bite was 'the perfect bite' and a gustatory adventure! Highlights: the heirloom tomato gazpacho (I wanted to cancel the rest of my meal and eat gazpacho all night long-but, I didn't). My husband ordered the chicken wing appetizer. I thought, 'how pedestrian', but after a taste, I walked away a chicken wing convert (although, I am spoiled for all others and can now eat only their version). We were out of season for the grilled cauliflower, but the grilled summer squash had bacon and other savories, was a delight and, well, there was much bacon! I had the halibut, which was just a bit well done, but the super light,lemony-buttery glaze more than made up for this, not to mention the mondo couscous and the sweet and sour zucchini! Yum! My husband ordered the beef ribs with the mole espresso bbq sauce, which was fantastic and for possibly the first time ever, he brought home rib leftovers. (which were even better the 2nd time around!) It was such a fun night and we are already looking forward to the next time we go!!

This is a great new concept restaurant in a fantastic location! We went twice in the first four days they were open. The facilities are very cool and the food makes you want to come back right away. Our server, Sarah, was very personable and mindful without hovering. Dave is a very 'on task' general manager and made us feel like family. We are thrilled they take reservations! It's going to be increasingly popular.\n\nWe had one tiny concern and emailed the staff. The response was immediate and the tiny little detail was taken care of.\n\nHIGHLY recommend!

Been here twice. Once we dined at the bar and more recently in a booth. Comfortable seating. Great floorplan and decor. Modern with organic finishes. Lit well - not too harsh or dark. Outside and inside seating in multiple locations. Service was excellent even with the place very full. Good cocktails and super detailed wine list. Veggies could have been steamed a few more minutes, but the smoked salmon was excellent.

made the reservation with a note regarding the fact we were celebrating my husband's birthday, it was a 'special occasion'. we were seated at a tiny table for two. on one side was an odd couple having drinks only (*no food) and on the other side, two women at a table for six, who ordered small plates. We felt squished, and 'not special.'\n*the service was Outstanding.\n*the food was Excellent (everything delicious and abundant)\n\nwe will return with more explicit request re: seating next time.

We read the reviews in advance, so knew the noise level was high, but we were still pretty surprised how very loud the inside space could be. We had to repeat much of our conversation with each other and certainly learned much about the people around us (more than anyone needs to know). The food, however, was great and a good distraction from the noise. The roasted chicken had a great flavor and the potato salad was unique and yummy. The beet salad was an absolute hit. \nI definitely recommend Ocotillo for the food, but go when the weather is warm and you can sit outside away from the noise.

Everything I've had there has been delicious on the three occasions I visited over the last two weeks . The menu is very creative and offers different combinations of flavors. But it is hard to hear each other at lunchtime. Today we were there for a late lunch. When the place cleared out and the number of conversations decreased, then music seemed to fill the void and it remained quite loud.

This is a very unusual-looking restaurant, as many have mentioned, and I really wanted the experience to match the surroundings. The food was okay, although my chicken Oaxaca was much spicier than the waiter described and I could only eat half of it. My friend enjoyed the pasta dish. Too bad they don't have much on the dessert menu -- they only offer one item that we both passed on. Prices are way too high for what they are serving. Our lunch with two entrees and two glasses of champagne was $70 with tip. Not a place for an everyday lunch if you are hungry.

One of the most amazing restaurants in our valley....Seriously!!!! Superb ambiance!!! The space is one of the most uniques spaces in the valley. Eco friendly, filled with love and warmth. An extremely welcoming atmosphere. They may have had some growing pains when they were the new kid on the block with the hosts but that is all behind us. From the moment you enter this fabulous space to the moment you leave, one feels the warmth. The food has always been phenomenal. We have been there for brunch, coffee at the cafe, beer at the beer gardens, happy hour at the bar, lunch on a weekday, dinner on a weekend. Every meal has been an explosion of carefully balanced flavors. My husband makes pasta at home from scratch and he says their fresh pasta is better than his. That is huge coming from him. The fresh herbs and spices are so creatively and beautifully married together with the main ingredient... The wine list is AMAZING... And oh so so reasonable! Dave is an excellent sommelier/owner.... We take all of our foodie friends to this fabulous space and our out of town guests.... Seriously, whether you are a local or a visitor, this is a NOT TO MISS adventure that your palate will thank you for. Its creative but yet approachable... No I do not have any affiliation to this magnificent place, just a local that LOVES this place and wants to see it succeed because of the love that has gone into creating this place!!!!

This restaurant was absolutely outstanding. The food was amazing. We shared roasted cauliflower and it was delicious. The menu is varied, but one of their signature dishes is Ocotillo chicken. It was fabulous. The chicken melted in your mouth and it was served over a date and potato salad. It was completely terrific. The owner, David, came to our table and gave us detailed descriptions of his favorite dishes and his passion was obvious. The portions are very generous. The restaurant was very busy, but the service was still great. Hope we can return soon!

First time we've eaten indoors here, always on the patio previously...kind of had to as it was 116 degrees! Great food and service as usual. We found the indoor dining area a little cramped, with tables very close together. Also it was fairly noisy. Modern, well decorated room, but filled with nearly all hard surfaces which do nothing to mitigate noise. We were there for our anniversary and it was a little hard to talk. Last, and I hate to say this, but for indoor seating we were very challenged by the number of active flies. We had to waive them away from our plates every 10 seconds or so. Never noticed this before, even outside, but it was a problem and didn't contribute to our enjoyment of our meal. Server was terrific, food was great, one of our favorite places but missed a few beats this trip. We'll certainly try again soon.

This is a busy place during lunch so noise is high. We were seated indoors, though when weather allows, the patio looks great. There is a community table that might be a little less noisy during lunch. Most likely it is a good meeting spot and gets crowded early evening. Decor is fun and nice to see the original aspects of building remain. The food is colorful, fresh and inventive. Taste is very good. We shared all selections - the Asparagus Burrata, the Ceviche and the Gem Lettuce salad. The wine selection was adequate, too. Plus, they offer signature drinks. Our server was ok until the end of meal. No offer for dessert or 'would you care for anything else?' At that point we felt rushed. At lunchtime, they offer one dessert that sounded heavy for summer with no suggestions of wine or coffee to accompany it. Talking with a manager, he acknowledged 'ladies who lunch' are not necessarily the group during lunchtime as more business people are the usual. Our appetizer and 2 glasses of sparkling wine were comped in apology. That was a good move. We will return and try again. Thanks.

This was our first visit to Ocotillo, on the recommendation of friends. We asked for a booth in the bar area inside and it was great until the sun started to set. We sat in the first booth near the main entrance and when the summer sun hit a certain point, we were blinded by it streaming through the west side windows. I would not sit there again during the dinner hour unless they put some type of shade on the window.\nThe food was excellent - lots of good vegetable options for the vegetarians in our party. There were many appetizers/small plates that I want to go back and try! The music was good and not too loud - we could hear it but could also have a conversation without having to yell at each other. Our server was soft spoken however, and it was difficult to hear her.\nThe only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because of the sun issue, and because when the bill came, they had added an automatic gratuity but none of us were told; in fact our server wasn't even aware that it would happen. Our party was only four people so it might have been a computer error, but it took some time to figure it all out and make sure we were getting charged correctly and our server was getting compensated fairly.

Ocotillo is truly onto something - the more I experience it, the more I feel grateful for the partners who have delivered this concept and all of its promises. \n\nThe short answer for those uncertain: go! In the middle of brunch, my 5-year-old emphatically declared: We have to come here EVERYDAY. She's not wrong.

I was dining alone on a recent trip to Phoenix for business. I inquired from the concierge which restaurant I should dine in at the conclusion of a successful trip. She instructed me to uber down to a new favorite of hers, and it brought me to Ocotillo Restaurant & Bar. All I can say is 'Wow!' \nFrom the moment, I stepped inside this beautiful and spacious, yet modern compound I was totally impressed. I decided to sit at the bar, and the bartenders were very fun and helpful at making me feel really welcomed, and explained the big menu perfectly. The cocktails were perfect without being pretentious. I chatted up a friendly couple next to me that dined at Ocotillo, and they told me about all their favorites. \nEverything I tried was flavorful and perfect, with a deft hand a seasoning and obvious culinary skill-sets. I loved the Beef Ribs, but they are massive! The wine list is really great, with lots of variety and obviously a focus. \nI highly recommend this Arizona Gem, and hopefully, will bring my wife (on vacation)back for a nice dinner (or apparently amazing brunch) at this fantastic and original spot!

One might think I'm being dramatic, but when you're paying $25+ for an entree, you don't expect to be served a chipped glass or get told that they are 'out' of tonic.\n\nIf they can pick up the pace, keep things in stock and taken care of, they'll be successful. However, unless I hear other great experiences, I will not be going back or recommending this place.\n\nIf you go - GET THE RIBS

We finally made it to Ocotillo last week when an out-of-town guest visited. The space is fabulous -- a beautiful bar, an open kitchen, outside dining, a beer garden and a more formal dining room. The hostess certainly knows how to work her magic to make everyone happy and get a good seat. \n\nDavid Johnson has trained his staff well on the huge variety of wines. We just had to explain what type we were looking for and a perfect solution came along. Ocotillo also has good cocktails. \n\nBut the food, oh the food! Roasted cauliflower, house-made pate, ricotta with these crazy balsamic strawberries to spread on delicious grilled bread. The pork shank was excellent and the 'famous' Ocotillo roasted chicken was juicy and sweet and spicy. But, the best dish of the night was the house-made pasta with the braised lamb, wild nettles, fiddlehead ferns, mint and smoked almonds. Oh my!

There needs to be a better avenue for customers and staff to go in and out efficiently without letting in these pesky critters.

I took my mother here to celebrate her birthday. We had the roasted cauliflower appetizer which we both loved. We followed that with their beet appetizer (so tasty!) and 2 small plates. My mother had the salmon and I had the chicken meatballs. They both had a lot of flavor and were good portions for being 'small' plates. We were too full from our appetizers to try their homemade pasta dishes...planning on that for next time. My mom also had their # 1 cocktail and she said it was well made and not too strong. The only downside was that we had to park in a dirt lot across from the restaurant. It was full of potholes and not well lit. Seemed a bit sketchy...I'm not very familiar with that part of town but it seemed a little unsafe to me, especially after dark. I can't quite figure out if I am supposed to give attitude back to the waitstaff as some sort of 'thing' or if the service is just that bad. It's like everyone was hired based off of 'my mom said I could never get a job looking like this and with no experience in the field in applying for and I want to prove her wrong'. Hired! There is an actual parking lot behind the breakfast area, with a green lawn area and some casual seating. The patio on the north side does get some intense evening sun. \n\nOur server did care for us very quickly and she was friendly and attentive. As the restaurant started filling up, our service became more slow. We waited for 10 minutes to get our check then another 10 minutes to have our bills collected and our receipts returned to us. People were waiting for tables. We were waiting to leave. Maybe someone called in sick and they were shorthanded. The waiting for the check thing is a pet peeve of mine. I would go back again, though. Every place can have an off night.\n\nThe menu was not vast, but it was ample and offered a good variety. We had just stopped in for a couple drinks and a couple small plates. We tried the Sheep's Milk Ricotta and smoked salmon with horseradish cream. Both came with grilled bread and was very delicious. They also have a nice variety of craft beers, both bottled and draft. The wine list offered a good variety along with their cocktail offerings.\n\nAside from the little blip in service, I'd go back again and try an entree- maybe even stop in for brunch. 3rd time in a month I've eaten here; once for lunch, twice for dinner. I love the salads and vegetable sections on the menu. It is full of savory and healthy options. Everything was delicious and it is obvious there is an annovative and well trained chef in the kitchen. Our service has been great and I love sitting outside on the courtyard patio. Very cool ambiance.

I took my best friend here for brunch, who flew in from Pennsylvania to visit me in Phoenix. We both loved it and it was perfect for what we wanted! Also, best Bloody Mary I've ever had!

This is our third time dining at Ocotillo plus I've recommended it to friends and family who love good food. My only complaint is related to service issues. We have ordered the crispy fish twice...it is crusty, moist, flavorful...hits all the high points. However, it is challenging to serve ourselves, made much harder with the small plates that are brought for this shared dish. Also, we opted to share a salad and the fish. Both were brought at the same time, which made an already crowded table like an obstacle course. We told the food server that we had expected the salad first, but no effort was made to accommodate our request. Our original server expressed surprise as well, thinking that our food would be served in courses. While these missteps won't keep me from returning, I thought I should share this constructive criticism.

Great for Veggans though. Definitely for the younger crowd. Nice layout with lots of seating options: in doors, patio, picnic tables, etc.

Enjoyed the evening. Appetizers were really good, found our entree's a little less so. Parking was surprisingly difficult for this out of the way restaurant.

We had Sunday fun day brunch. My hubs had rib eye steak and eggs and said it was the most flavorful rib eye he had ever eaten. I had the quiche WOW! It was amazing! We had out 2 yr old granddaughter with us and there is a great little grass area she was able to burn so energy in.

My date had the Ocotillo chicken which was fantastic. I had the beef ribs with mole glaze, which were very good; tender and falling off the bone. Portion sizes are large, so great value for the money. David's (GM) wine list is great!

Wait staff - Charlise? - was wonderful - food outstanding- building design fabulous- I live in the neighborhood. Noise is huge indoors because of cement floors - hard to have intimate or romantic conversation - and then the music on top of it! Of course if the young set is texting no problem - but I love good food with good conversation and you are not encouraging the conversation part- my only complaint - otherwise outstanding for a first timer

We started with the kale salad, then the grilled broccoli and roasted cauliflower,\non to the chicken and the dumplings. The only thing I wouldn't recommend are the\ndumplings - unless you are in the mood for Pho. It was a soup dish, not an entree.\nThe dumplings are more like meatballs.\n\nRestaurant is quite loud.\n\nGreat outdoor area, it was too cold to sit out the night I was there.\n\nWaiter was excellent.

First you notice the ambiance and the wonderful outdoor grounds of this new Phoenix gem. Then you taste the food and drink. It is a treat for the palette, as well as the spirit. Ask for a table near the kitchen so you can watch the chefs at work. Food is delicious, and the presentation is beautiful.

I'd had lunch twice at Ocotillo before finally venturing in for dinner. The place just looks fun - the architecture and lay-out and different eating areas make you feel like you could have about six different dining experiences in the same venue. If you're looking for something quieter, choose the booths by the bar. The Euro-style dining in the other section isn't that private. The street-side and courtyard patios are great too. But the real test of course is the food. The choices are creative, inviting and many, making it difficult to choose. We ended up with the crispy fish for two, with the arugula salad and side (ordered cauliflower, were served broccoli, did not complain or disapprove). The wait staff was great - can't say enough positive about our waiter - and one of the owners came by to see how our meal was. If we have two suggestions, (1) use the backside of the menu or give out magnifying glasses, and (2) dim the lights just a bit by the bar, so that a private, quiet, romantic dinner in a booth isn't held in the equivalent of broad daylight lighting! We'll be back for sure. Many dishes left to try.

Hostess was rude. Waiter knew nothing about the menu and every question our party asked resulted in him running to the question to ask. Servers were in hoodies and knit caps and they looked like thugs. Very poor impression. Too noisy to enjoy conversation with people at our table. We will not return.

Seems to still be working out kinks in how the orders are processed. Some entrees came out before the starters. But all the dishes were excellent, hot and freshly made. Great choices making it difficult but fun to experiment. Will definitely go again (may be order one dish at a time.)

We are big fans of FnB in Scottsdale so we were excited to hear that Sacha Levine from FnB was going to be involved in opening Ocotillo in Central Phoenix. We went there with friends on Friday night the week it opened. Huge outdoor section with a huge TV, a bar area, a restaurant area. Neat urban design, lots of metal. The bar and the restaurant area are very attractive, open to each other. And therein lies the noise problem, especially when the bar is packed. The night we were there a 200+ class reunion had reserved the whole bar area. Party time! The noise level was so incredibly loud that even with leaning in over the table to yell at each other it was deafening. It became so irritating that we left rather than ordering dessert. The noise made everything seem chaotic. The food was so-so, unexceptional except for the cabbage salad, which was very good. The pasta with pork gravy/sauce did not seem freshly made--not saying it wasn't but it didn't have that fresh taste and texture. The roasted cauliflower and mesquite grilled broccoli were ok but unexceptional. The broccoli had the mesquite grilled taste but it was presented in huge broccoli branches stacked on top of each other and was beyond al dente to not-grilled-enough. Our friends had the whole fish (fried), which presented well but had so many bones and was so hard to eat that they finally gave up. Will definitely give Ocotillo another try in a month or so after the restaurant has had a chance to settle in. But it may be that this is going to be more of a fun, party place (like Culinary Dropout) than a serious foody place. Nothing wrong with that, just not what we look for in a restaurant where we drop serious bucks for dinner.

First time at dinner. Service was great. Ordered the Asian Dumplings. Good but not great, did not meet expectations. We went on the 2nd night they were open for dinner so I'm sure they will continue to improve. The people are very nice and the restaurant is beautiful. Will go again and try something else!

So many places to sit and relax while you wait. If you don't have a reservation expect to WAIT! We ALWAYS make reservations. Some people were very upset at a 40 min wait time. But oh well. ... You need to make reservations. \nThe quiche was amazing. I had a Bloody Mary also and it was perfect.

First, the food at Ocotillo is incredible! There are plenty of menu selections for both vegetarians and carnivores. Second, the space is open and clean, with indoor and outdoor dining options. Very nice ambiance (a little heavy on the community seating and light on the fabulous booths, though, in my opinion). Third, the owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming. We love it!

Ocotillo offers an excellent menu, slightly adventurous without being extreme. Staff is very pleasant and attentive. It's a bright, inviting place, very pleasant for lunch especially. It's a nice addition to the neighborhood. If you haven't been there before, it's a little challenging to find. Best way to look for it is to locate China Chili on Third St. Ocotillo is directly south of China Chili across Flower Street.

This place was recommended by a friend. It has only been open a few weeks with limited hours 10-4 but glad we checked it out. Several dining area options - we chose the beer garden area. Picnic tables in a covered patio area. Very cool area with an outdoor movie screen when they are open later. Service was very friendly, food was great-recommend the chicken chimi. They currently are serving brunch/lunch type items. Generous portions. Good beer and wine selection.

This restaurant has potential and the design is really new age. The problem is with execution of the drinks and dishes. The pitcher of Bloody Mary had 3/4 ice and 1/4 mixture. It was so hard to pour in the glasses that the server couldn't even do it, had to take it back and take the ice out. The bread on the burger is too thick and none of the food's flavor really stand out except for the seasoning on the fry. I expected better and hope they improve as its in my neighborhood!

Ocotillo is a welcome addition to the midtown dining scene, especially with the relocation of FEZ closer to downtown. However, the restaurant, although conspicuously packed even in its first few weeks, will need to rise to the challenge. Culinarily, the restaurant may be worthwhile (I have not yet had a chance to sample a sufficiently large portion of its menu to tell conclusively); but it will need to make great strides in improving the logistical aspects of the restaurant business. Patrons with reservations should not be made to wait ten minutes (which would easily have become fifteen or twenty, had a disconcertingly overwhelmed and confused reception staff not been continuously prodded and reminded) when there are multiple open, clean, set tables. Menu items should not be forgotten to be delivered. Utensils should not be forgotten. An order of coffee should prompt a reply querying, 'Cream and sugar?' -- or both should be brought automatically. An order should not end up at the wrong table when you have only two or three tables occupied on the veranda. And so forth. Other than that, the service was actually very friendly and attentive -- and capable of engaging in intelligent, interesting, and fun banter, which I always appreciate. Provided Ocotillo can overcome its growing pains, I will return again and again. Otherwise, I will leave it to diners who do not frown upon such details and are seduced by the apparent hype surrounding the latest restaurant addition to midtown.

Wow, I am still preplexed by the crappy service and we food we just experienced.\nLet's start from the beginning. We had a reservation for 6 at 11:15. We were seated all was good.\nThen it took 15 minutes for them to take our drink order. Then we had 3 people trying to take our drink order. It then took another 20 minutes to get our drink order. Then another 5 minutes to get our glasses as we had ordered pitchers.\nWe were then informed that they did not have chimichanga as they had run-out. Now its 11:30 in the morning and they had not opened too long ago. OK we can deal with that.\nThen the drinks themselves:\nThe pitcher of sangria was really watered down and way to much ice, both red and white. The pitcher of bloody Mary was just tomato juice and horseradish, it was one of the worst that we had tasted.\nThen the food arrived, but not all together and pieces missing.\n When the brought the 2 burgers they said medium rare, and well done. First we were never asked how we wanted them cooked. I said that no one here would ever order well done burger. They took it back and then 30 seconds later came back and set the burger on the table and said that this was correct. We cut into it and you guessed it. It was the same well done burger that they originally sent out. We decided to eat it as we were tired of all the f ups and we were hungry.\nThe food itself was very bland. There was no seasoning on any of the dishes. It was satisfactory and nothing I would ever say ' I need to come back and eat that again.'\nThen the bill came, we asked for it to be split 3 way no problem. Except that they charged one of the cards twice.\nThis was a total cluster, and the food was average at best. They need to get it together. I like to give new places second chances, but this is the first place I can say, ' I will not be back' it was that bad. Not the worst food, but the worst dining experience.

I went for lunch. The space was beautiful and not crowded. My food was okay. I ordered the chicken tandoori sandwich. The bread was so hard, I had to just eat the chicken from the inside, which was delicious. The 'vegetables' offered were potato salad or coleslaw. I thought those options should not have been referred to as vegetables, but sides rather. The worst part of the experience was that the waiter disappeared for a long time. At lunch, most working professionals do not have time to sit around waiting for the check. I finished eating and had my credit card sitting on the table for at least 25 minutes before the waiter came by to bring us the check. What could have been a 45 minute lunch turned into a lunch that was over an hour and a half, and they weren't very busy. It seemed like the server had gone on his own lunch break while we were waiting for the check. Its a cool space, but I probably won't return for lunch. I might give it a shot at happy hour.
