The special atmosphere and the personal attitude of the owners
The attitude of the family that run the hotel, they were very helpful and did all they could to make you feel at home. The result was a very relaxed stress free stay. The layout of the hotel, furniture, decoration etc, was designed with the comfort of the guests in mind and was very successsful.
A small hotel with character. Owners/Staff were very friendly & helpful.Ideal for a very reasonably priced stop-over en-route from Lisbon to Algarve or vice-versa but well worth staying longer to explore the area.Doesn't serve dinner but 2 very good restaurants nearby( 1 just across the road ).
the kindness and the conviviality of the landlady located some what far away in a very quit village nice and clean although the weather was not good
Friendly and helpful owners. Spacious rooms and good breakfast. A very pleasant stay in a small village close to sights.
Nice place, beautiful landscapes. Well decorated rooms. Good facilities.
This small, boutique hotel is simply a gem and deserves more notice. The proprietors are very kind and helpful. The hotel is beautiful, well appointed, comfortable--elegant rooms, the host's private collection of Roman antiquities in the lobby, very welcome pool in a lovely courtyard, excellent breakfast. I can't say enough about our stay. This hotel is an excellent value for the money. Nothing--we wished we could stay longer.
The hotel was charming with many traditional artifacts on display. The room was large and well furnished with a good sized bathroom. Very small but pretty pool area. On arrival we were told they did not have our reservation. This was rectified after a phone call but was not the most promising welcome. The gentleman on reception did do his best to reassure us and we were allocated a room and offered a drink. He was also extremely helpful later with providing directions and advice on good restaurants.
the family was very nice person and very hospitable no
Friendliness of hotel staff; interesting old building to visit; pleasant and hospitable city; many touristic places of interest, particularly the Alqueva dam.
Very impressive hotel. Loved the architecture. Staff very helpful with dinning suggestions.
nice old hotel, friendly and helpful staff (especially tips where to eat in Moura), parking possibility, pleasant pool -
A grand old building; central location but quiet. Helpful friendly staff. The pool is tiny so I didnt use it. I had some problems with the WIFI but they allowed me to use the hotel computer to get on the internet.
The hotel is beautiful and really clean and neat, and the people were very friendly and helpful! No!!!!
What I liked was that even though the location is within the city, the hotel offered me the privacy and serenity he sought. nothing.
Dogs were allowed. Wonderful historic hotel. friendly. Good breakfast. Lighting in room is too bright and glaring. Not enough shampoo and soaps.
The hotel, the people and the town NO
Simply beautiful settings, a must stay if you're ou that way ! very helpful staff who refer us to a lovely restaurant, breakfast was perfect - beautiful dining room & good food! we took loads of pics of the hotel before we left..best hotel we stayed in of the entire trip!
This is a charming hotel. The room was spacious with a wonderful ornate ceiling. The bed was large and comfortable. A very atmospheric building with helpful staff
We spend just a day and a night in Sobroso, and really enjoyed it. I only can confirm what others already stated: this is a place to relax, to eat local dishes with high quality, to drink great wine ... and to experience a warm welcome with perfect service from all the people there. My room has been quite small, bed on upper level. If it's hot outside, even the A/C doesn't cool down enough if you are used to sleep in colder environment. Different in other rooms, no problem there. It completely depends which room you get.
All was perfect! Probably the best accomodation we have had. Calm, harmony, luxury without any lack of good taste, a personalised and very kind welcome and a very good diner
Beautiful family-owned, restored and very friendly small rural hotel with delightful hosts who cannot do enough to make your stay most enjoyable. It is in a countryside location with large grounds and a swimming pool, so perfect for those who like peace and quiet but there are places to go and see within a short drive. Gabriella and Carlos deserve to succeed as they have put a lot of time and effort into making this a place to remember! We would certainly chose to stay there again.
Carlos & Gabrielle were very welcoming & helpful. A real home from home. Very restful & comfortable place. Absolutely nothing.
The owners have restored this old family house which now offers about five very clean and functional bedrooms. The staff could not be more helpful and we thorougherly enjoyed our one night there. Also an excellent breakfast.
This is so much more than a just a hotel or a pension.First of all the house is exceptionally located in the middle of the charming Alenteju landscape. The house used to be a family house now converted -with a lot of respect for the house itself- to welcome guests. When we arrived we got a 'guided tour' through the house by the friendly owners. They really know how to pamper their guests. Each morning the breakfast was a surprise. We will remember it for a long time. Rooms were spacious and very clean and nicely furnished in the style of the house. The swimming pool was very neat and big enough.A very nice place to stay, higly recommended!
Herdade da Retorta is a great place to relax. The hosts are very friendly, the room was large and clean, the breakfast was great both in quality and quantity, the pool was the perfect place to relax. Everything was perfect.
Delicious pumpkin jem!! The staff is really nice!
This a wonderful place to stay. Recently converted into accommodation from a family farm. The owner and his wife are very friendly, happy to spend time explaining and talking about the are and the house and their background without being intrusive. The rooms have been refurbished very stylishly and comfortably and breakfast was wonderful with all fresh and mailny very local food. There is a pool and a samll gym and they are happy to recommend restaurants in the town ( about 2 ro 3 Ks away) that were superb. All in all I wish I had had much longer there and will have no qualms recommending friends to stay there. If I ever go back to this part of Portugal I will definitely look to stay here again. N/A
Carlos and Gabriella are warm and charming hosts who really gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home throughout. Their little personal touches made this into a highly memorable stay for us. That is on top of the spacious and highly comfortable room and the excellent breakfast they serve. All this at a very reasonable price !
I liked the hospitality, the roll of activities, the rooms, the confort, the quietness, the view nothin
The owners/inn keepers were our hosts, warm and gracious. We enjoyed them. Gabriella's breakfast was superior compared to many others. The quiet setting w/swimming pool we enjoyed, as well as our spacious, peaceful rooms. When we drove into the property, Carlos greeting us in his warm Portuguese way. It was the highlight of my strays while in southern Europe.
We were delighted by the accomodation and the location of this hotel. We also enjoy the very good breakfasts and the kindness of the landlords. Nothing.
LOvely location with views over the planicie. Although at 3 km from centre of Serpa it is a bit too far to walk. I comment says it is only 10 minutes walk which is rediculous! Nice pool, excellent breakfast. Nice to look at the stars, so brilliant in the clear sky. No information on the time of breakfats, which was not available until after 9 on one day!
Peaceful, confortable. I felt at home for one day. Good people with an amazing live story.
I loved the peacefulness and the helpfulness of the staff and everything was clean. The only minor complaint, there was no fridge, although we were offered the use of the owners which was extremely nice of them.
It´s in a farm whithin a 10 minute walk from the centre of Serpa, a lovely little town in the middle of Alentejo. The hosts are very nice and there´s a wonderful swimming pool where you can relax and enjoy the heat and sun. the views are amazing, watching the sunset from the verandah while sipping on a glass of Alentejo wine is exceptional. You can also hear the cicadas and the flocks of sheep from your bedroom window. The closest thing to a bucolic heaven! There is nothing worth of mention on the negative side.
