the staff were very helpful and friendly directions to hotel could have been clearer
Although a basic hotel we were pleasantly surprised, it was clean, excellent location, wonderful staff, good breakfast and restaurant, in all excellent value and somewhere we will return without hesitation.
Good location for our requirements
It was convenient for our golf weekend in royan and La Rochelle and offered good value for money
loved the mezzanine concept. very comfortable and with balcony. thoroughly recommend
The mezzanine family room very airy and spacious and very clean. Setting truly delightful and proximity to beaches excellent. Reception staff very helpful and attentive. Breakfasts were good but expensive, especially at Euro 5.50 each for 2 children who don't each much, when paying Euro 11 per adult.
The staff were very freindly and gave very good service. the hotel is very clean and well maintained. It is in an excelent posotion just right to take advantage of the local amenities. The buffet breakfast was well presented with a good selection of hot and cold food.
Central location, food at the hotel, quietness of the rooms, comfort and cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel, cheerful staff. Bathroom lighting is only average, bathroom handheld shower is not easy to use, power socket in bathroom did not work properly.
Staff were really good and were able to attend to our needs as required Very old decor with smell of old wet dogs (this hotel allows pets in all rooms we believe)
Central location. Really noisy. Not from outside, but from corridor noise. Really odd accoustics .Coach parties going to and from rooms early and late. Could also hear people using toilet in other bathrooms!
The reception staff were friendly, the hotel is accross the road from a lovely beach. Parking can be a problem if the hotel dosn't have enough space, there are car parks nearby but if the weather is good, it can be a problem parking. Room was very hot although the hotel does supply a fan.
Everything, especially the hotel staff who were very helpful
Staff very helpfull and hotel sited in a good place underground garage only made for small cars
location no evening meal
Our room was upgraded free of charge Our room leaked by the window and the carpet was wet. despite telling staff no one took any action.
Everything was just OK The furnishings in the bedroom were poor e.g. there were insufficient pillows and the curtains could not be opened/closed without standing on a chair - it was quite disappointing walking into the bedroom considering the cost of our stay
Locality, easy to find. Basic room, poor television.
we had a big room at the front overlooking the beach
It was a same that the shower did not work and as we were there foronly one night it was not to important.
The rooms very comfortable, beds new and very good to sleep in and staff very friendly. The hot breakfast options were rather un-appetising.
the hotel owner was very friendly and the room was very clean only thing about the hotel it is on a busy road so you get a lot of noise from the road during the night
during the day i wnt to the sea no
It was close too the beach and had WI FI At 2 in the morning we had people screaming and shouting in the hotel in fact at one point we actually thought that they were going to come through the door as someoe was either shoved or thrown into it and then sat sobbing outside this went on until about 5 and then started agian at 7 so we got very little sleep. Breakfast was of site and expensive for what it was
Didn't stay long enough to judge, we chose it because there were rooms available for the date we had chosen
Food in restaurant was good. Location.
Visited La Rochelle, and Cognac Price of room was dearer than booking price.
Convenient to motorway and easy to find, clean and functional, a good hotel for an overnight. Did not get the room type booked
Nothing. The room was supposed to sleep three plus a baby, but was tiny. The third bed pulled out from under one of the single beds and already contained an earwig! Once pulled out there was no room to pass to get to the bathroom and once the baby cot was up there was no free floor space at all. The light was hanging off the wall and the room was noisy. This was the most expensive of three hotels we stayed in and by far the worst.
Short stay in saintes, lovely city. More basic than expected, stayed previously at Formula 1 next door and expected more for extra money.
Easy to get to from motorway Had asked for a cot not supplied. The advert for the hotel said there was a children's playground this did not exist. Room was tiny.
Reasonable value and cater for pets No non-smoking option
The staff was polite and came right away when we lost our electricity. The restaurant was good for a hotel of this class.
A typical motel, great for a stopover, right by motorway. Clean, very helpful staff and tea/coffee making facilities. Excellent buffet for evening meal and good breakfast.
great location, friendly staff
Clean.Breakfast very good-value for money.Very nice reception-people.I Really liked the helpfullness of the reception people.Nice room non- fumeur.Parking facilities.Id like to come again. The smoke from cigarets, from people staying in the lower floors, while opening my window to get some cooler air. Very unpleasant.Make your hotel a NON-fumeur!!= WonderfulPeople can smoke outside. Thank you.
Clean stylish foyer, comfortable beds, clean rooms The en suite bathroom was small, which was fine for us but could be an issue for larger people
Location was great. Breakfast adequate but good. Cleanliness very good and overall value for money great! I suppose the only complaint would be that the colour scheme in the hotel could be brighter to reflect the sunny climate!!!
Excellent sea front location; friendly, helpful staff. The close proximity of smoking and non-smoking rooms meant communal areas and stairs etc smelt strongly of smoke.
The receptionist was most pleasant and courteous - breakfast was excellent. Booking.com's system to change the date was not good so i had to telephone.
next to the beach, air conditioning, No tea coffee in the room, small room; very old bedding,
Was on family business:perfect middle class hotel w/ a very attentive & casual welcome, super well manage, total independence (night key). Very good & abundant bkfst. Relax but very professional service. Strong reco.; Nice decor, garden;
Freindly staff, good fresh breakfast, we were made to feel very welcome. The lift could be a little bigger, room for one small person or 2 cases!
Easy to find, Parking reasonably good. Clean room, fair breakfast and polite and friendly receptionist. None of any note
Noisy neighbours in room nextdoor. Thin walls, lack of sound deadening etc
Hotel was well positioned. Good value for money.Close to amenities. Clean linen.Good breakfast. Nice public rooms. Shower was not enclosed.Noisy plumbing. No opening windows/air con.
The receptionist was very helpful even though we muddled through with my very poor french. The room was large and airy and I especially liked having a balcony with a view As we were travelling on a motorcycle parking was a bit of a problem as we had to keep checking it was okay parked away from the hotel.
Helpful approach of the lady running the hotel. Location of the room with a balcony overlooking the sea.. The shower was very small.
Very good value. Duplex family room with sea view; breakfast on balcony. Superb!
Close to sea, very good breakfast. Very small room, bathroom & bed. No window, no airconditioning.
the location I did not like the fact that even though I booked in Feb we had to change rooms after 2 nights. As it was a special celebration for us this was upsetting.
breakfast was wonderful and the staff were very friendly. we have been before and knew the location was perfect for parking and access to town facilities. our friends room had a carrier bag with some cocks in left in wardrobe and the taps in our room had not been cleaned very well (black round the back).
The only good thing i have to say about this hotel is the location The hotel itself it simply awful, we arrived at 1pm to check in, got to the room and it had not been cleaned yet, even though check in is after 12pm, the toilet was literally in the room, if it wasnt for the shower curtain seperating it from the room, then i would have been peeing in front of my partner! there was no coffee or tea facilities and the shared shower was infact 1 shower for the entire block on the 2nd floor which you had to use tokens for (there was only 2 in the room for us to use, so we ended up sharing a shower morning and night). I am not a fussy person, i have stayed in alot of hostels in europe which were far far better then this '2 star hotel'. In my opinion it was more of a hostel, and it should be much cheaper to stay
Staff were helpful and pleasant. Location was very good, close to beach, and shops, cafes. I would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Good location make a shower free for cheap room!
As uaual, all was very good - location first class for town, beaches and shops - staff very friendly and accomodating. Nothing
5 mins from Beach-Hotel a little tired but undergoing modernisation programme, pleasant staff and a good breakfast
We stayed in the Abacus because of it's proximity to the beach. We were staying in Royan to take part in the Violen Sur La Sable which takes place on the last week of July each year. There is a nice terrace where breakfast is served. Breakfast was very good value at six euros a head. We found it rather noisy at night with rather a lot of traffic passing below our window, bin collections every morning at 2.a.m. but this is not the hotel's fault. We found the owner very pleasant. Our bedroom was kept spotless. We would return.
it was in a perfect location for shopping, the beach and bars and restaurants.
Very good location Close to the beach and marina. The room offered initially was without a WC. However, the proper room was offered the same day. The hotel needs renovation.
Attitude of duty manager when we were eventually allowed to book in was, to say the least, attrocious! He was arrogant, bombastic, and thoroughly unfriendly.
The view from the balcony and situation of hotel, away from noisy centre of resort. Tea making facilities were available but never any milk - had to ask each day for some. There was an unpleasant smell in the lift and the reception area could do with smartening up, otherwise good value hotel.
location to beach bedroom was tiny - not enough space to walk around the beds. the noise from other rooms and in particular from the bathroom above every time they went to the toilet!.
The breakfast is excellent The room is too small.
Good Price No landing light at end of our corridor
Semi Veiw of Beach Restuarant closed Sat Evening
Position overlooking the sea. Reception manager very efficient with a sense of humour who works very long hours and perhaps not appreciated.(I Hope he is) Cleaning staff very cheery and efficient. Breakfast excellent with very fresh produce. Rooms could do with an overhaul if I was to be very critical but still did not spoil our visit and would very happily stay there again
The location was good and the staff friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was basic and a bit expensive for what it was No bar
Staff very friendly and welcoming. Ideal central location in Saintes. We were given, at no extra cost, a room with a spacious enclosed balcony with a fine view of the town centre- turning our room into a spacious suite effectively. Overall the hotel was unbelievably good value. Tea/coffee facilities in room would have allowed us to fully enjoy the balcony with a view.
Friendly receptionist; very central location for sightseeing in Saintes Price is a bit pushy
The concierges were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and quiet despite being in the middle of a big city. The continental breakfast was very good. The shower, as in a lot of hotels we have used, was hand held, and as we shower more than bath a bit inconvenient
The owner/staff were extremely friendly and helpful, going so far as to personally drive us to the train station on our last day. Language was only a slight problem, and the hotel is situated 1/2 block from the Tourist Information office. I recommend this hotel very highly!
central location, huge balcony/conservatory with a great view
Very friendly and helpful owner. Great Location. Secure parking. Simple but comfortable rooms.Excellent breakfast. There is no restaurant but the owner recommended several nice ones nearby. Great Value.
cleanliness and very quiet despite being on a main roundabout
It was very convenient for the town I was visiting with my brother. It was also convenient for travelling around the area due to it's closeness to the motorway. The cleanliness of the hotel was very impressive - everything was spotless and looked new. A car park would have been useful but there was a free town carpark just down the road.
friendly staff, situiation and view from room.good breakfast. smell of drains from toilet. cramped shower. lift only takes 3 when we were a party of 4 on 6th floor !
The sea view. The location - plenty of nearby parking and restaurants; close to the ferry across the Gironde.. Nowhere to sit in the room apart from the bed.
Proximity to beach. Shower room though small was new and had a feel of luxury room was very small
Good sea front location, easy to find. Lack of secure parking Somewhat impersonal. Breakfast is expensive.
Close to restaurants, shops , beach and swimming pool Rooms were not up to 3 star standard, due to the lack of space.
The setting of the hotel is nice, situated on a lovely lake. I felt that this hotel was not good value for money, the food was very poor and the room was also not great. Our bill for room and dinner for one night was 250 Euro, we stayed in a 5 star Chateau during our stay for the same price!!!!! Very over priced
Friendly staff, had to try to speak in french most of time- enjoyed this.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and immaculate. The hotel is just a few minutes from the beach.
The location, quiet, yet go one way its just metre's to the beach, go the other and its just metre's to the town centre. Its a very good budget hotel with big rooms, big beds and spotless clean. No, I would return.
nice people and good location
Convenient location Our room was on the third floor with no lift
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Nice quiet hotel with well furnished room.
Being able to share a room with our children and still enjoy some comfort!
Hotel very close to centre of Saujon and was comfortable and extremely clean. Very helpful staff who went out of their way to assist. No restauranr in hotel for snacks, lunch etc. Great restaurant adjacent, where we ate dinner, but this is not part of hotel.
Owners & Staff went out of their way to make our stay Comfortable. We can certainly recommend the Restaurant No lift to upper floors, but Staff Very Helpful
Great location. Very quite. The room we had was very modern and clean. Lovely shower which is great after a day at the beach. It also had a patio area with chairs so that you could sit out and enjoy a drink in the evening. There was no bar as such but the owner did serve drinks which we were able to drink outside our room. We had air-conditioning in the room however it didn't get very cool and the night we spent there was very hot and we could not open a window because the door was the window.
Obviously recently fully refurbished to a modern, very high (and expensive), standard, ultra clean. Proprietor very pleasant and helpful. Restaurant was closed (for a reason that we didn't understand) until the week following our stay.
The owners were very helpful, because we could not speak French they helped us at all times. Also in our opinion the restaurant was first class or 5 star.?
perfect stopover during long drive through France
it was very nice room and very comfortable. the hotel ws quiet and very well situated. I loved the 1950 s makeover. no
People there are lovely, and its on seaside, very nice area, parking is great and safe the hotel room was to poor for the money, also it smelled from the drains, and it was unbareble
The Hotel was ideally situated. We liked the decor and appreciated the fact that the hotel was quiet and the staf non obtrusive. The secure parking was a bonus and breakfast was also good No tea or coffe facilities either in the room or in the hotel in the evening.
hotel staff very helpful, room plenty adequate for a short stay, central location.
We stayed in this hotel for one night on our way down to the south of France. It is located in the old city with many resturants close by. Easy access from the motorway. Will stay there again.
Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Very central location. Quiet curtyard setting, with the exception of Saturday night. Car parking facility. Friendly staff. Carrying luggage to second floor on a steep and narrow staircase.
It's position in the town
The friendliness of the staff and the fact that I had free access to emials. No
Clean and nicely situated. Room was very good and food very acceptable No
Central to Old Town No lift
We found the staff friendly and helpful and there was a good continental breakfast ready for us early in the morning
This hotel was a good value for the money. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was surprisingly far from the city center of Saintes. From other reviews we thought it would be walking distance, but it was at least a few km!! We ended up driving in, but would have preffered a hotel closer to the restaurants, etc.
The Manager and staff at this hotel were absolutely fantastic. They could not have been more helpful and even though it was only an overnight stay made us feel really welcome. This is not a luxury hotel and does not pretend to be, but it has all the facilities needed for a short stay. It is not very easy to find as the signs are really small guiding you towards it, but is worth it when you get there. We would absolutely recommend it.
Basic hotel set in a zone with businesses, other similar hotels etc - ideal location and price for overnight stay whilst visiting Saintes, Cognac or various chateaux in the area. Hotel is 10k from Saintes so not practical to walk especially at night. There are a coule of restaurants close by the hotel but good choice if you drive into Saintes - we did not have a problem parking but imagine in July/August parking could be a problem in Saintes. Hotel has large, free car park, basic rooms, only one medium sized towel per person, but clean and with small t.v. Bathroom clean and adequate. Hotel breakfast very good value. Definitely a one or two night maximum stay hotel - area convenient but unattractive. Would have been good to have more than one towel per person in the bathroom.
The hotel was near to Saintes, but in a very quiet location, so it was much more peacful than hotels in the centre of the town
Easy to book, clean and convenient as a stop during our journey from St Malo to Bordeaux. In view of the cost of the hotel, I do not draw attention to any faults.
Very impressed by cleanliness and layout of hotel. Reception staff very competent and friendly.
Very good breakfast, clean and bright rooms. The family room we had was huge ( 2 adults 2 boys aged 14 and 11)
Walking distance to Main tourist precinct. Free Parking & Free Wi Fi internet
Internet provision and the TV area in the reception was very useful. Very friendly, helpful staff. The room was refreshed daily to a high standard. Did not expect to find hairdrier or tea/coffee making facilities - this was not stated on the website - nice surprise No
We thought this was too basic for us, it was like living in a garage. Would hate to stay there in winter! Won't choose a Balladins Express again.
Hotel is situated very close to city centre - some traffic noise but essentially a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel with efficient staff.
Good location and friendly staff No particular dislikes
The friendly, helpful, approach of the manager. the clean room
Good arival process very helpful staff Parking outside rooms noisy in early morning
The staff made my stay enjoyable as they were very helpful and always very curtious.
Very handy location to break journey if travelling through France down towards the Pyrenees. Hotel just off the motorway. Very friendly and helpful owner. Good breakfast (6.50 E). Free secure parking. Hotel not expensive but rather basic; rooms are in small chalets. Can certainly recommend it for overnight stay. Rooms were small but clean. Shower too basic.
The location was very good. The bathroom facilities were below what I expected. Being allocated 1 croissant for breakfast was not acceptable.
Friendly and prompt attention from the persons in charge. Free internet availability is a plus. A little bit far away from the center of the closest town.
Very basic and quite noisy at times. Room very small but clean.
