Staff, room and Thermals are amazing. Area for guests only is very romantic and peaceful. Thermal waters in area for guests only was not as hot as described by staff. Due to rain, all bungalows were dirty and wet. Staff could have been more on the ball on that. Perhaps covering them with plastic sheets so they wouldn't get so wet.
Ultra luxury accommodations if u choose the Rainforest room. What makes this place extra special is the Shangri-La, the exclusive hotel guests only portion of the thermal spa. Can't wait to go there again!
The surroundings were beautiful with the volcano as the backdrop. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Shuttle service to spa and springs was very timely.
It's a magical place that never disappoints.Very family friendly yet very romantic, too....They have also made improvements and updates to the Spa. The only negative thing is you are totally watered logged after 48 hours there. We only stay 2-3 days max. Then head to the Pacific coast.
Everything was perfect. Best service and facilities! Amazing! The breakfast is expensive
Rooms, facilities Price of breakfast
Had a wonderful stay. Great location to explore the rain forest of Costa Rica. Had a wonderful room with beautiful views. Fabulous bathroom with huge Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Great to come back to the resort after hiking, zip-lining and ATV-ing and relax at the hot springs. Will definitely return. Breakfast was very expensive. Buffet was $25++. The bill was $125.00 for our family of 4. We shopped in town and had breakfast in the room. Was still enjoyable. There was a fridge, coffee. Would be nice to have options for breakfast.
The hot springs make it worth the price. We stayed for one night, but enjoyed two days on the hot springs and pools. We absolutely loved it and recommend it. Do not expect great food. Both breakfast and dinner were highly overpriced for the quality. Dinner was so disappointing, we spent about $100 for two entrees, one appetizer and two beers, but the ribeye was could barely edible, and the special nothing to brag about. They also offer a buffet by the pool for $39/person, which we didn't try. Breakfast for $25/person was also a rip off considering I only enjoyed the fruits and yogurt. The rest of the buffet was not great, so I barely touched it. They need to invest in better food in my opinion...
Everything was Amazing A less formal eating option and less expensive breakfast.
The thermal pools The cleanliness was horrible. Dingy and smell of mold. The facility needs an update badly
A group of 6 of us stayed here on part of our Costa Rica trip. This hotel was our favorite. The huge grounds are simply gorgeous with many walking trails running through it. Very lush with lots of flowers. The sounds of the monkeys and birds would wake us up in the morning. We all had views of the volcano at night in which we could feel the rumbles and see lava from the volcano on both nights we were here from both our balcony and our bed. Our room had an outdoor shower and tub which was really nice to have. One of the pools is kept at 100 degrees which makes for a nice swim on a rainy night! The front desk promptly sent a golf cart to pick us up to take us to the restaurant each time we called. The food was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had rented a car so getting around the area was no problem. Tabacon Springs is very close and The Hanging Bridges (way cool) were just down the road. We would definately stay here again. I would hightly recommend this hotel when staying in the Arenal/La Fortuna area.
A MUST GO PLACE! Many guide books were very misleading about Costa Rica's 'rainy' season. We went there on honeymoon from 9/30-10/5 and it was sunny every day from 7:00am to 3:30pm. It only starts raining after about 3:30pm. Regardless of the season, you can't do much after 5:30pm anyway because it gets extremely dark at night (and night starts at 5:30pm). We had a fantastic time there. The hotel people were extremely courteous. There weren't many tourists so no place was crowded. The special Sep/Oct room discount was just awesome. Above all, the weather was perfect every day, surprisingly! (See pictures attached.) THINGS TO BRING: - Many $1 bills (USD) for tipping (maybe 40-50). All the touristy locations accept USD. You need $1 bills to tip people. $1-$2 tips are generally recommended for small things such as services from room keepers and drivers. $5-$10 tips are recommended for private tour guides. - Some $5, $10, and $20 bills - Sandals - Beach towel and goggle if you wanna swim in the swimming pool - Insect repellent - Sunscreen - Binoculars - Backpack - Bubble bath soap (if you want this in your private jacuzzi) USEFUL INFO: - You can actually spend your entire trip without Costa Rican currency. Almost all places accept USD. - Learn and speak some Spanish. They don't care how much you can actually speak. They appreciate your effort. - Make sure you call your credit card company beforehand and let them know you will be in Costa Rica from when to when so your credit card doesn't get declined there.
The suites at this hotel are UNBELIEVABLE. They have huge verandas overlooking the jungle and the volcano, veranda soaking tubs, huge beautifully appointed rooms, and superb amenities. This hotel is an absolutely elegant gem. I would return in a heartbeat! The grounds are impeccably manicured, the wait staff superb, the food excellent, and the thermal pools fabulous. Four stars all the way.
I've waited so long to take the time to review this place because I had such a good time & have so much to say. For the positives, it's virtually never-ending: Pros: - Staff: friendly all around from reception to housekeeping to the bar to the restaurant to the gift shop. Excellent service & very resourceful (i.e. booking excursions)! - Ambience: EXCELLENT. You're in the rainforest, it's so lush, everything's located in the right amounts in the right places - Room: We had the suite as it wasn't much more than the a regular room. The room was SPOTLESS & had one of the best views I've ever seen. We were able to hang out on the balcony w/ the volcano front & center. Also, we had an outdoor tub, candles, matches provided. Also a separate outdoor shower! - Restaurant: pricey for dinner, but was good. We were allowed to bring our own bottle of wine after manager approval. The breakfast buffet had great variety, even let us pack something to go when we had leave early for a tour - Happy hour: pool was nice & warm, drinks were cheap (5 USD), bartenders totally cool! Appetizers are also available Cons: - The ONLY con. Like many resorts that try help you really getaway, this is another. Once you're out here, w/ exception of the Hanging Gardens (a must, is walking distance), that's it. There are no convenience stores, restaurants other than w/in the resort itself. Recommend to pick up what you need for your stay before making the drive in. BUT: to remedy that, Lost Iguana does provide FREE transportation into the town of Fortuna throughout the day! Again, loved this place, & look forward to a 2nd stay in the near future
This hotel was the highlight of our trip. We went during the rainy season so we had the place almost to ourselves. View was fantastic. Volcano wasn't active but the view was great. Hot tub on deck was nice. Very nice manicured grounds. Walked the nature trail and saw some great fauna and foliage. We would definitely include the resort in our plans for our next trip to CR. This place was the nicest we stayed in on our whole trip.
This was my first trip to Costa Rica, and the staff made me not want to leave. I would like to keep this place a secret. This hotel should be star rated at more than it is. I have stayed at hotels in the USA with higher rateings that do not compare to the experience I had here. Very knowledgable staff that goes beyond your expectations to make your stay awesome.
Warm staff. Amazing grounds (you can walk to Hanging Bridges). Private rooms with hot tub on the balcony!! Can't wait to go back.
We were sad to only have one night at this wonderful gem. The view of Arenal from our balcony was incredible; as if it was placed there perfectly amidst the lush foliage. We enjoyed the rain forest hiking trails on site and without having to pay extra for a tour. The room was spacious and clean. If I ever make it back to Arenal, this is where I will be staying.
I only had one night at this hotel and wish I could've stayed much longer. Room I booked was a Standard, but there is really nothing standard about it. Very roomy, balcony, amazing room, bathroom was huge, I had a coffee maker and minibar in the room, coffee included and reasonable prices for minibar. My favorite was the spa, I had time for only one treatment, very relaxing and reasonably priced. They have quite a large souvenir shop on site, some original items. Lovely place, amazing views, highly recommended.
I can't believe, The Lost Iguana is only rated as 4 stars!!! Perhaps, its because the prices are so unbelievably reasonable for a resort of this quality. The Lost Iguana is Casual elegance at it's best! Aside from the truly wonderful accomodation, with unbelievable attention to detail, (Hand painted sinks and bedspreads, private Jacuzzi's over looking the Volcano, clean gorgeous bathrooms, some with outdoor showers) , the promptness efficiency, and friendliness of the staff, is top notch. The food is as good as I've had anywhere, from the fresh Lake Arenal Tilapia Cerviche, to the Shrimp in Banana Sauce. The views from the rooms are National Gegraphic at it's best! I woke up to a 'Plumming Volcano' set accross a pink sky, and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! The grounds are more like a tropical botanical garden than a jungle. There is beauty every where you look. And , the Spa is elegant indulgence at it's best.! (treat yourself, you won't regret it.) Staying at this Jewel in the Jungle is an immersion into the best that nature and man have to offer. I 've traveled far and wide, and I can't wait to go back, this time with a lover.
