The hotel was clean and comfortable and air-conditioned. The pool was an unexpected bonus really. It is literally one hundred metres from the 'quartier sauvegardé" (the preserved historical part) of Sarlat and the surrounding villages and countryside are almost breath-taking in their beauty. Sadly like almost every other French hotel there are no in-room facilites for tea- or coffeee- making - we always take our in expectation of that.
Restaurant excellent and good value good lcoation of hotel for visiting the town Difficult to park outside of hotel to drop baggage off as no facility for cars to even temporarily park close to hotel some of receptionist staff struggled with english as much as we struggle with french
The pool and spa area was very nice, the rooms were also nicely finished. The hotel has obviously been renovated and the rooms are all very nice, however it seems like the bathrooms have not been touched and was very dated and disappointing compared to the rest of the hotel.
Another OK city hotel. Staff helpful but not engaging. Good location. Street parking if you can find it. Feeding the meter to have time to visit the town.
swimming pool, staff, comfort continental breakfast was poor, little choice, hard cold toast, if they improve this, the hotel is flawless
Warm, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent bar, terrace and lounge area which was ideal for meeting up with friends and having an aperitif. Brilliant location, 2 minute walk to the heart of the old town and easy access to road network to explore this beautiful region.Good restaurant. Small but very pleasant pool area and jacuzzi. Lovely view over square. Good parking. The standard double rooms are not large but they are perfectly adequate and well equipped.
Front desk staff wasn't very friendly
My kids enjoyed the pool. Some of the items in the buffet breakfast should have been refrigerated, not sitting out in the open.
This is probably the best 3 star hotel we have ever stayed in. We stayed 5 nights in a 2nd floor Junior Suite overlooking the square at the front of the hotel. The room was fantastic value, modern, spacious, and with a superb bathroom (with large bath and seperate walk in shower). The hotel has fantastic pool, sauna/spa facility which is exceptional for a 3 star hotel. Positioned at the end of the main route through the medieval pedestrian area, it is about 250 yards from the centre of Sarlat. The private secure car park is 100 yards way and is a must as parking in Sarlat is difficult and expensive. Reception staff were very helpful (especially Mary), and the Au Bureau bar adjacent to the hotel is a perfect place to end an evening. Breakfast was good and plentiful, but the same selection every day so a little variety would have helped. TV in the room only has English speaking news channels - no general English speaking programmes.
The hotel was comfortable and clean. The restaurant was poor. Didnt have what we wanted o the menu and quite expensive.
Lovelu country side around with Dourdogne river and castles.
We had a very pleasurable stay. The hotel was in a quiet location, but very close to the center of town and easy to get to other destinations. We enjoyed using the swimming pool and having a lovely view from our balcony. Overall our stay was very relaxing and pleasant in the midst of an extremely busy month of travel. None
charming hotel with excellent service and facilities in a garden seting within walking distance of Sarlat. The grounds were beautiful with a plants and lovely pool and deck. The owners and staff were freindly and caring and made our stay delightful. Excellent buffet breakfast as well. I would highly recommend this hotel. nothing
The pool and the restuarant No
Very relaxing after a drive and pleasant informality but a high standard of service and comfort. Disappointed that there were no evening eating facilities and the TV channels weren't what they said they were!
A converted monstry set in a beautiful location 2.4 Km from the carrousel in Sarlat (45 min. stroll but road busy when you leave the side road from Hotel) Very well laid out and a credit to the owner who designed it. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel was very clean, room appeared a little dark at first, but kept with old design of the building. Staff were excellent and helpful. Plesently supprised by the lack of insects considering its country setting. Loungers on the terraces. Took a while to locate the dusbin in the bottom drawer in bathroom. Pool was lovely, appeared to be a safe place for young children as they could not access the pool are without an adult due to the child (and sometimes adult) proof latches. Air conditioning in the room poorly located and due to this was not as effective as it could have been. There is no tea/ coffee making facilities in the room. One supprise for a family run hotel was that the oweners never introduced themselves and it took us a while to figure out who the owners were but they were friendly and helpful.
Situation and grounds Lack of staff at times - it seemed a bit deserted
the stuff was wonderful very helpful and always nice breakfast is served in a very nice space. it is very easy to go for trips from there
It's a original hotel, a nice place with a beautiful park and a lake. We had a room with a terrace, very quiet, we had the impression to be in the middle of a forest although we were very near old Sarlat. The garden and the pool looked very nice and breakfast was served till noon! The road is very dark, there are no lights to show you the way. It's no problem if you know it, but for the first day it's better if your arrive with daylight.
peace and quiet, very nice breakfast, relaxing milieu...would definitely return here wi-fi not accessible from bedroom
The garden. the ambience. the staff and beautiful food all excellent.
The quality/design of the rooms, fixtures and fittings - in particular a very comfy bed. The facilities of the hotel/gardens were really nice.
Our room was very comfortable and suited our needs well. Access to and from parking was a little difficult, especially at night. The garden area was very lovely. We ate one dinner in the restaurant, which was disappointing as to quality and value. Our meal was not consistent with a "fine dining" reputation.
It was so pleasant and comfortable. Food and food service was wonderful and fresh. Nice walk into the village and museum and great location to explore all the prehistoric sites plus the church beyond the the back garden is not to be missed as a fortified church. The pool could use an update. The other guest reviews seem harsh. We had a room overlooking front courtyard and there was no road noise and we stayed for 4 nights. Parking was limited in regular space but enough spaces on sides of hotel.
We loved the feeling of decor, the proprietors, the amazing garden with pool - and the food was a gastronome's delight - impeccable service and quality - presentation - and the outdoor terrace are beyond description.
We booked the junior siute for our 25th wedding anniversary and were delighted with the accommodation. Had dinner onthe night of our anniversary and though the service was good the sommalier lost interest leaving us to pour the second half of the bottle ourselves.
Very nice. Great value for money.
I thought that our hostess was extremely friendly and courteous. The rooms were spacious, and very clean, and parking was available. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend this Chambre d'Hotes.
comfort, clean, nicely furnished, efficient and helpful owener. most recomended.
The peace and quiet of the country side yet easy access into the busy town of Sarlat and other interesting places to see. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room as there was now where to have a hot drink other than at breakfast and then the dining area was closed for the day until the following morning.
A lovely rural retreat for a visit to Sarlat. Francine, the doyenne of Le Mas, is a wonderful, attentive host.
Service was superb, and we appreciated the attention given to us by staff when we arrived, and when we had to deal with a particular problem unrelated to the hotel. Breakfasts were an unexpected pleasure. A little difficult to find initially, but not really a problem.
The staff were so friendly; they gave us helpful information based on what we wanted to do that day. We actually stayed 9 nights we could have used a hook on the back of the bathroom door to hang our wet towels but other than that, it was excellent
We liked the quiet rural location, the charming, friendly and helpful staff. The other guests were pleasant, too. The layout of our room was odd,not uncomfortable, just odd.
the servis was excellent the room we stayed in would benefit from a bit more illumination inside
We liked everything about the hotel: brilliant friendly staff; lovely food and wine [we had the menu gastronomique]; excellent room; most attractive setting, lovely grounds in an interesting village.
The staff at Le Vieux Logis was incredible! They were SO customer service oriented and met our every need. The little town of Tremolat was very charming. There was nothing we did not like.
Excellent staff, excellent food, beautiful gardens and rooms
Although our room was small it had all the elements and opened on to the lovely garden. We liked the understated luxurious French country house atmosphere - the gourmet restaurant with good wine list and excellent service - the restaurant has only one Michelin star - a gross oversight in our opinion - a second is certainly deserved especially for the tasting menu with wine. The friendly and helpfull staff and general attention to detail in a professional but relaxed way. Although not a budget option no visit to the Dordogne would be complete without at least one night here! We are already planning our next visit! We wouldn't change a thing!
The staff were super helpful and friendly, and the restaurant was wonderful. Nothing
The food was wonderful. The staff were very helpful. The hotel and gardens were delightful.
I loved everything. The service, friendliness, food, rooms, comfort, pool were all great
The grounds and location of this property are very beautiful. It is a good location to explore the Perigord area. The resteraunt and bistro serve very good food.
The atmosphere, the gardens, the relationship between the inside (room, lounge) and the outside (garden and courtyard).
The attention to service was perfect, with our breakfast served on the terrace, cushions brought unobtrusively for the loungers and chairs outside. We were helped with restaurant bookings and other arrangements. There isn't a restaurant at the hotel itself, which may put some people off, although there are so many restaurants within easy walking distance in Sarlat that it really is no problem.
The staff was exceptional and very helpful. The cleanliness of the rooms was excellent.
Privacy and luxury. Excellent staffing.
Everything, beautiful room, outstanding decoration and taste and attention to detail. Extremely helpful and delightful staff. Luxury not usual in Europe No
Very good stay but overpriced . Shares a pool with another hotel.
The location in Sarlat was excellent - a short stroll in to the medieval town but far enough away to avoid the noise and traffic that built up particularly in the weekends. Our room was spacious (we upgraded) and tastefully decorated with lots of natural light and very modern bathrooms. Not having a hand basin in the toilet was not ideal.
Clos La Boetie is a very comfortable hotel and a pleasant stroll away from the numerous shops and restaurants of Sarlat. Our room was very comfortable. The breakfast we has on the morning we left was lovely. The hotel is pricey but you have to pay that for the peacefulness.
Very clean. Quiet. Luxury. Rooms are excellently equipped. The heated pool is unique (indoors/outdoors). Missing restaurant. There is no coffee/tea making facility in the rooms. Parking is a problem.
Lovely room, bathroom, facilities etc Air con unit was located behind the curtains which made it a bit ineffective when the curtains were closed. Breakfast expensive at 20 euros each. No tea/coffee facilities in room (though this is typical of most French hotels)
Amazing room, gorgeous bathroom, great bed - best sleep ever, excellent friendly service
We reserved a family room for four and it actually turned out to be a room with a loft and seating/ktichen area as well. It was amply sized for 4 people and allowed for much more privacy than just a rectangular shaped room for 4, which we were expecting. The bathroom was modern and very clean. Towels were ample and quite nice. The location outside of Sarlat was not ideal. We would have preferred to be in the city itself, as it would have been more convenient for meals, etc. However, the Sarlat area is a great base from which to tour the Dordogne area. The restaurant was only ok. One of us had a meal that was way oversalted (starter and main dish). The other meals were fine. We only ate there one evening.
Wonderful place in a very special location Room was extremely humid
A great experience for hospitality and gourmet food. A small hotel in a beautiful setting offers a great base to visit Sarlat, Domme and other interesting sites.
the room was nice and clean. the hotel is very close to the old city from 23.00 till 7.30 there is nobody from the staff in the hotel!! there were no vegetables for breakfast and no sugar free cornflex the eggs were cold . improvement is needed
Friendly staff Parking could be difficult at certain times of the day
We have got our parking place finally. No parking place (officially) despite promised
A clean well run hotel. We had rooms in the newly renovated annexe. Rooms were very good.
The room was spacious and very comfortable. The staff were very courteous and knowledgeable, responding easily to our requests (ice buckets, etc) and happily recommended nice restaurants in the area.
The hotel was within walking distance of Sarlat. The family room was very nice and on 2 levels. Children loved the pool. Staff not very friendly. Did not explain when and where breakfast was, so we went into the town and ate there. Bottle of wine expensive 35 euros for a bottle of Bergerac wine which I had a problem drinking!
outdoor pool, big room man on reception unhelpful and dismissive
I liked the fact that there was wireless internet and the swimming pool was clean and refreshing to swim in. I was disapointed with the size of the room. My wife and i went with some friends and their room was almost twice the size or our room. In the end it did not matter that much as we did not stay in the hotel much thoughi would have appreciated a more accurate description of the room or type of roo that we could have got bwhilst we were booking. i.e. it did not mention that the size of room could be very different ad even in the room that our friends stayed in, there was hardly any furniture and the room looked very bare.
Lovely big room and big bathroom with a great view. Good to have the pool to come back to relax in after out sightseeing all day. Great location within walking distance of the town.
Nice location in Sarlat mountain top, but no elevator so we stayed at a motel type room. Poor access to town. My complaint is we did reserve for 2 nites and stayed one because we had to leave yet they insisted on charging for the 2 nites. Having been a very frequent user of Booking I really resent that we were put in that position. Please advise.
Staff very helpful and friendly and provided a good level of service. Good location. Upper floor rooms had low headroom, but we were able to change to lower floor.
Very charming, clean and comfortable small hotel in a walking distance to the old city. The room is not very large but well arranged as to allow longer stays. Beautiful swimming pool. Very good breakfast. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The hotel was spotlessly clean.
Very clean and quiet, close to town. I think the breakfast could be much better for the price.....all packaged, processed food. Wish we had just gone to a bakery for croissants and hot chocolate.
The hotel was clean and modern. The towels were plush and the bed linen was of a high quality. It was perched high on the hill overlooking Sarlat which did provide a nice view out of the little attic window but it also meant that the walk home from dinner was energetic and tiring. It is not very far from town, but it is all up some quite steep hills. Not really, but our room was on the top floor and we had to carry our luggage up two flights of stairs. Just something to be aware of, I guess.
This is a gorgeous place to stay. The family that runs it does not have good English, but are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is about 15mins walk from town (up/down hill). If you are staying in Sarlat, and have any intention of exploring the Dordogne, you need a car.
access to the town also the hotel facilities ie pool. plus the views
New hotel, nice and high quality equipment, quiet and super clean room. Room should be somewhat bigger to be really comfortable.
Clean, new, superb staff support, location vis-a-vis Sarlat are to us the highlights or our stay at Bon Encontre.
Lovely old manor house and outbuildings in excellent condition in pretty park with river and ducks with good walks around. Good size room beautifully decorated and furnished with large modern bathroom incl. tub and shower.Excellent well presented gastronomique food in medieval style restaurant. Note prices at door since menus are not priced in restaurant and book table on arrival since some are poorly situated due to type of building. Excellent secure parking especially behind annex. Did not realise bedroom was in annex which is 80 meters in the open from hotel and restaurant. However the room was beautiful and the forecourt to walk across is so picturesque. No hairdryer in room.
It has an exceptional setting in the country some 30 min from Sarlat.. A relaxing change. New chef seems to be doing fine with the menu. Madame Hamlin, the owner is very gracious.
it was superbly run, and extraordinarily friendly and warm. the location is exquisite and the owners (patrick and mary jose) charming ...a real gem
country side, nice surrounding friendly staff well positioned for starting daily trips
The room was clean, warm and comfortable and the reception staff were most helpful . The hotel is 30 minutes walk form the centre of Sarlat and is not served by public transport other than taxis. It provides comfortable, tranquil sleeping accommodation and a continental breakfast if required. There is absolutely nothing else and it is not a good place to be stuck on a wet day unless one has independent transport.
Good location and good value for b/f and facilities. Would have liked a TV channel that showed some programs (BBC World News?).
very clean, easy access, delicious breakfast and good value small room which looked out onto a grassy bank, ground floor, therefore was very dark
Hotel offered good value for money and was in walking distance of Sarlat. Receptionist was polite and helpful
Good parking, near enough to walk into Sarlat(1 mile walk); near to a supermarket, very quiet and not disturbed at all by other guests or staff. Excellent value for money. The lighting in the room was a little on the dark side. Another light would have been beneficial.
Cleanness of room and bathroom. Quality of bread poor
The food was absolutely fabulous and the staff were warm and friendly The ensuite bathroom had some mold in the shower
The nice friendly people, and lovely food
The area of France the hotel is located in is beautiful and unique, and the service was excellent.
Helpful and welcoming staff with superb food. Unusually for a French hotel were able to provide a vegetarian meal and did not see it as a problem. It is on a busy road so it is quite noisy even at night.
I found the hotel to be very charming and the staff to be very friendly, the location was good and the bathroom was lovely.
Friendly & helpful owners/staff. Central location. Adequate parking on site. Food standard good. Room & decor only at the just adequate level for the price
Staff hostpitality and helpfulness.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice terrace and garden at rear of hotel. Rooms were small and in need of a facelift.
The showeroom was extremely cramped , there was not enough room for the shower, 2 basins and the toilet in what seemed like a converted cupboard. Also the sliding doors would not remain closed and there was no lock to secure them..
The room had an french provincial ambiance The room was very tired that needed total refurbishing. it was very tiny- could hardly fit 2 suitcases in it wthout walking on one. it was ver noisy from other guests in the hallway and also outside noise.
This hotel ticked all the boxes. The owners were extremely friendly and couldn't have been more friendly. We had a lovely, spacious room on the second floor. The food was excellent.
Wonderful position, with lovely garden and clean pool, weather did not allow us to use it! Evening Meal was fantastic, as good as any firstclass restaurant.
Excellent service and friendly and helpful staff. Could not have wished for more. Food was first class. If only other hotels could be as good.
The ambiance and decor of the old hotel, it's sitting rooms and dining rooms overlooking the lovely garden, terrace and river beyond, are cared for by the very friendly and helpful couple in charge. Bathrooms are modern, pretty, and sparkling. Their restaurant is excellent and breakfast is generous. Convenient, easy & free parking; central location yet very quiet. A most enjoyable stay!
very comfortable and quiet, perfect location in a beautiful village close to many places of interest, excellent food, very friendly and helpful staff
Everything was better than we had expected. The service was a reflection of that given by M et Mme Nourrisson, the owners, who were always available to answer questions and assist when necessary. The hotel is in a quiet location, but within walking distance of the shops etc., the food is excellent and we can think of no better place to stay for a relaxing break. We shall return!
Went to caves of Lasceaux, toured the countryside, enjoted the village of Montignac & especially the warm welcome & superb food at the hotel. Nothing.
The friendly and helpful staff and the beautiful gardens with sunloungers. Also liked the fact that the "a la carte" menu was applicable for "demi-pension" (not the case at other establishments) and the breakfast was terrific with a buffet selection. Would definitely use this hotel again. Not a thing!
Helpful and friendly staff, great location and very good food. Would stay again during next trip
Personally owned and all the care and attention showed No
As old couple did not speak English at all, I could not communicate with them and then had bad experience. There was a big dog suddenly chasing me when I entered the garden. It was very scarely.
Everything Hot water was on and off. Finished my shower with cold water in chilly morning.
I loved the surroundings and the beatiful setting. Enjoyed the swimming pool too. A shame that the hotel did not have a restaurant.
Staff were very friendly. View was really lovely. Room was very hot (fan only available)
The building is magnificent, and in a great location. We elected to stay in the annex, which was absolutely fine, although in retrospect would prefer to have stayed in the chateau. We were impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Due to a strike by French Air Traffic control, we were unable to stay the for the first of our two nights booked - whilst this was unfortunate, the hotel did not charge for the 'lost' night. Although the hotel does not provide meals, an excellent continental breakfast was available.
Beautiful building and grounds with a lovely terrace where we were able to get a beverage in the afternoon, everyone was pleasant and accomidating. Breakfast was mostly breads. We booked the "bagain" room for 108 E. After seeing the beautiful building we were pretty disappointed to be led up to the highest tower room #9 (four flights of stairs) with two very small IKEA type twin beds - something like a former maid's quarters. It was hot and stuffy and terribly uncomfortable - we didn't sleep at all as our feet dangled off the end of the beds - no romance whatsoever. Opening the windows was not really possible as the wind was fearsome. I guess worst of all was the fact that there were many keys left on the board downstairs - they could have easily upgraded us and made a very happy customer. This room should have been used as the last resort - no matter what was booked. Glimpes of other rooms looked better.
staff very friendly, breakfasts excellent with lots of variety no
Grand building in a beautiful setting. Staff were attentive and helpful. Room was clean and spacious.
the owners and staff are very welcoming and kind. Also we liked the salted swimmingpool and the terrace is beautiful. The breakfast was excellent as well as the home made apple pie! Thank you for that. Also thank you for the snacks that were offered by the house when we were having some white wine sitting on the terrace, besides the breakfast room. May be it's an idea to place the buffet against one of the long walls (i.e. in front of the kitchen door) in stead of in front of the fire place. Also I liked the mosaic on the floor, which is not seen now. May be some light snacks could be served at the terrace.
The hotel itself is is quiet and beautiful , it has a good size pool which we were unable to enjoy because of the weather . The location is excellent with easy reach (short drive) from main places of interests. No dinning facility option
The hotel was a good value for the money. I liked having a patio behind the room and a fridge in the room. The hotel was situated up a very steep hill from Sarlat, making it difficult to go anywhere without the car. Beds were a little hard.
They upgraded us No
The room was very well appointed and clean. The bathroom was excellent and very clean. The breakfast was good. The staff were helpful in terms of giving directions. There was good parking for our rental car. It was located outside of Sarlat with an easy run downhill into the city right into a parking lot where we were always able to get parking. For some reason the toilet did not work very well and the attitude of the manager and repair man seemed to be that it was our fault. This was the only sour note in an otherwise excellent hotel.
With all the anemities provided, we are surprised that this hotel is not rated a 3 or 4 star hotel. It even has a swimming pool. The only drawback is that the location is outside of town, and you need to drive into town for dinner, etc.
Location Ambience re gardens and pool area
Outside centre of Sarlat so quiet. Good room and breakfast for the price.
excellent services; very helpful and friendly staff; spoke English well enough; family run hotel; very clean perhaps not well-suited for travelers without a car since hotel is about a mile or so out of the center of town
the place is nice the staff is generous and wiilling to help you when you need help the food is great and the rooms are comfortabke
Super position for walking into the centre of Sarlat. Staff at reception frosty - again. Breakfast not good value - 12 Euros for a mediocre breakfast that is poor in comparison to others at this price.
A modern comfortable hotel close to the old town, with free on street parking
The hotel was within easy walking distance of the town which was a delight to visit. Our room was beautifully spacious. No.
friendly staff, very accommodating and helpful and the balconies were very beautiful and relaxing. They even borrowed us an umbrella for a night! the extra charge for the parking
swimming pool nothing
Close to old town Meal facilities not easily available
close to the town centre, friendly staff, good pool, air con stopped working part way through the night
easily accessable to main tourist area
Great location within walking distance of the town
The hotel was of a very good standard and couldn't fault it. 5 minutes walk into Sarlat. Plenty off road parking. Everything I requested about the bedroom, I automatically got. Didn't have breakfast their but the Dining Room looked very nice. I do think 12 Euros is quite alot for breakfast but is the same price in all the hotels we stayed at.
